✨💫Quick WIP of @kianamaiart 's lil magical girl character! I literally love her design sm (her monotone and "I'm done with life" expressions are my favorite shdgjshaksjsj) ⭐️
It's a bit messy and I need to work on the contrast more so it's easier to read,, but I think the overall composition and colors are nice :)) I might work on it a bit more but ehhhhh what if I said I don't wanna

Can you make a tutorial on how you make your characters so expressive?
I had to think about this a bit because I don’t really think there’s any golden rules or any rules concerning expressions. 😭😭
I don’t think I’m the best person to ask this, since I like making expressions based on my intuition.
I feel like good expressions are mostly gained from experimentation, finding what you’re comfortable with, and if it suits your character’s personality. (Like reserved characters will tend to have a lot more restrictive/reserved movements, while hyper and chill characters may have a lot more open and loose movements)
But I think a good rule of thumb is to not be afraid of making facial wrinkles, making faces ugly, and or paying attention to body language. Body language goes hand in hand with facial expressions and I recommend checking out a lot body language videos since they do a good job explaining why certain body movements dictate certain emotions. (Like some arm gestures can indicate stress or coping)
I think a good way to practice expressions is through messing around with your own facial expressions, and try exaggerating them. I personally like to keep a small mirror around so I can use my own face as a reference when I’m making a weird face. (It tends to hurt sometimes lol)
Sorry I can’t provide any better advice than this! 囧rz
(If you wanna know my favorite expressions, I highly recommend checking out Return of the Mount Hua Sect, and the Greatest Estate Developer, THEY HAVE INSANE EXPRESSIONS)
