Just hit the part where Gale talks about how clean his tower is now again and it hit different. How he laughs it off but...like....cleaning, getting rid of stuff.

It's just a throw away line, but this guy collects bits and trinkets and books like no-tomorrow (just look at his camp spot!) and he's delighted by those things and, well, he's not exactly the master of organization over there. Him not having things - well, it's not about the things he's giving up - it's about the fact that he'd given up so why on earth would things matter? Even if they had been special or important to him once.

Gale is a depressed, burned out GT kid who got screwed over by the system (and person in this case because the person is the system and the system is the person) who originally told him he was special and has completely and utterly had his sense of self-worth nuked (hah) by a mistake that he really wasn't in a position to be able to avoid given all of the above circumstances because what other path could he have possibly taken and not been a failure for not trying anyways?

He is desperately trying to keep his burn out from hurting or disappointing any more people and he thought that isolation is the only way to really do that.

And his sole lifeline to any semblance of actual sanity seems to be his cat.

UGH....I AM GALE. GALE IS ME. FUCK. No fucking wonder I want to cry when my Tav tells Gale he's worthy exactly as he is and again when our wizard wonder starts believing it.

He outright lies to his family! And now we know that Marco also doesn’t really communicate that well lol

my favourite Naoto headcanon is that they are bigender. this is because I am massively projecting. but genuinely, on my first playthrough of p4, I got around to their social link in mid November, scrambling to finish anything I started, and I liked it. I loved helping them with their own little mystery as a distraction of what was going on at the time in game.

and then I got to their rank 7.

now, I had named the protagonist after myself, but I mostly treated him as his own character, but he just had my name instead. this made one of the lines in Naoto's rank 7 hit a little harder.

I had to take a small break to regain my composure. yes, I have absolutely felt that way before. to the point where it hurts.

that was my exact thought process when I was questioning if I would be happier as a trans man or not.

"transmasc" didn't feel entirely right for me, but I knew being a man made me happy. just a year before my interest in p4 was even a thing, I had discovered the bigender label, and I was over the moon.

in that moment, it felt like Naoto was speaking directly to me, relating to me even, and not just at a character I had named after myself.

it made me feel seen. it made me feel like I wasn't weird for once. I loved it. I love being bigender. I love Naoto.

I get using no specific iteration of the TMNT in a crossover and just making yet another new version. After all, the franchise has had many, many different versions at this point, so it's easy to accept that this is simply one more to add to the pile.

But Naruto has... one. Just the one. So when all of a sudden characters are written/shown to have expertise that they shouldn't have at the age they're being depicted, it just ends up feeling weird.

I get that fitting things into the Naruto timeline can be a chore. Do it too early, and Sakura is kinda useless. Do it too late, and Sasuke's off murdering people. And if you try to set it after the series, the power levels are seriously gonna be out of whack.

But breaking the only canon that has ever existed for these characters makes them feel like... not the same characters. I might be the only one who cares about this, but it really took me out of the story, to the point where I couldn't help but focus on it. I don't want to be distracted from page one of a silly ninja crossover comic.
