I think I gotta get another cup of coffee in me otherwise I know that there’s no way that I’ll begin, see; tryina free my soul the joke is that it’s always been free but anything that’s ever done we always do again, we have to use our knowledge to produce a new solution, it’s weird a creature smart as us is losing to pollution, you’d think a bigger brain would somehow lead to less confusion, but our clever makes us better suited to illusion. Always ready to be deadly, everyone’s a product of our own environment, that’s probably why we’re all fucked; but even if the luck is out you know I’m down to try it, so sell a lie of life revised I’d really like to buy it - don’t ignore the Kie it’s: best to get to listening to glitter that I spit or speak to keep the vision glistening! I guess I’m not the best with plans it seems I’m always breakin’ ‘em, but with a crew the plans we’d do! I’m really good at makin’ ‘em. One day I’ll finally find a way to do the things I’m dreaming, until that time I’ll play with rhyme (it’s either that or screaming).

Is there anything good (positive achievement) about the Valyrian/ghiscarian empires? I feel GRRM didn't bother giving them nuanced and interesting history beside mass slavery, rape and genocide, esp the ghiscarians they are mash up of the all the racist oriental tropes you can think of
Hi anon, this is a really good question. I think you can look at it two ways.
On the one hand, if we're analyzing the books from a literary perspective, GRRM's portrayal of the entire continent of Essos is pretty Orientalist and doesn't hold up that well. And we can blame this to some extent on GRRM being a white boomer who clearly did not think all that deeply about the stereotypes he was playing into when he created his "exotic" eastern continent. 90s fantasy was rife with this stuff (even my beloved Robin Hobb is not completely immune-- I'm looking at you, Chalcedeans), and at the time Orientalism was, much like critical race theory or decolonization, a grad school level concept, unless you ran in activist circles. You didn't have Tumblr and Twitter and TikTok and Youtube generating Discourse, you had to actively seek out different perspectives. And ex-hippie liberal white boomers often assumed that they already had the right perspectives, that they knew what traps to avoid, and so you'd get 90s SFF authors thinking they were very cleverly subverting these tropes by going, "I know, I'll have an intensely misogynistic culture of desert dwelling nomads who have harems and slaves but I'll make them white." It was pretty bleak. Luckily for all of us, fantasy has come a long way since then.
And yeah, once you see the Orientalism in ASOIAF, you can't unsee it. Lys is basically the fantasy version of the "pleasure planet" trope, the Dothraki are a stereotype of the Mongol armies without any of the many positive contributions the Molgols made, Qarth is like the Coleridge poem come to life with people riding camels with jeweled saddles and wearing tiger skins, with its women baring one breast and it's sophisticated assassin's guild, and Mereen has its pyramids. The entire continent is brimming with spices and jewels and pleasure houses and people saying "Your Magnificence." It is also a place of blood magic and dragons and Red Gods and shadowlands. It is everything exciting and "exotic," juxtaposed against what appears to most readers to be very mundane--septas and pseudocatholicism and maesters in the citadel. So yeah, it's an Orientalist's fantasy world, and the point of all this is not necessarily to cast it as evil per se, but to cast it as "Other" (and to be clear, Orientalism is harmful and GRRM deserves the criticism he gets for leaning into stereotypes). Valyria and the Valyrians are certainly included in that-- they are explicitly Other as foreign born ruling family in Westeros, and they are treated that way both in-world and by the narrative.
The question then becomes, although GRRM's depictions of Essos lean heavily and inelegantly into Orientalist tropes, why did he create these worlds the way he did? Why is Valyria an "Other" and what significance does it have to the story? And I think that some of this is GRRM's shorthand for something magical that is lost and forgotten and fading away, just like Valyria itself is in the memories of the Targaryen family. It is the Xanadu of Coleridge's Kubla Khan, not just the East viewed from the West, but the past viewed from the present, a nostalgic yearning for a place that only ever existed in the imagination. When the narrative does visit these places in person, rather than telling us about them secondhand, they become ugly and brutal, the jeweled facade hiding a rot underneath. In ASOIAF we have Dany ripping that facade off of Meereen and Yunkai, but she idealizes her own Targaryen heritage, and that is not insignificant, and as readers, we are invited to idealize it right along with her, in spite of plenty of hints that perhaps we should not (like the aforementioned slavery). We even hear Astapori and Yunkish slavers speaking to Dany echo sentiments about the even older Ghiscari empire, also lost, "Ours is the blood of ancient Ghis, whose empire was old when Valyria was yet a squalling child." Old Ghis and the Valyrians who conquered them are both long gone at this point, and yet their descendants are clinging to the legacies of cultures that would be wholly foreign to both of them. Because if Valyria is Xanadu, the Old Valyrians and Old Ghiscari are also Ozymandias, the mighty who have fallen, their once grand civilizations nothing but forgotten ruins. The Targaryens don't yet realize that they are that "half-sunk shattered visage," that they are yearning for something that is gone and never returning, something they never really knew in the first place.
Westeros is not immune to this either. I think it's a consistent theme that GRRM plays with is the ways which the past is glorified and distorted and romanticized. Even in a meta-sense, his entire medieval world is, in many ways, a half-remembered medieval fantasy, the medieval world as imagined by people who read Ivanhoe, rather than a medieval world as actually was. And GRRM simultaneously presents this romanticized world alongside the brutality of the past (and to drive that point home, George's medieval world is much more brutal than the real medieval world was), and so he asks us, just like Dany must ask herself at some point, is the past really all that romantic? Or are we simply yearning for something unnamable and Other? And if we yearn for that, why?
On the other hand, from an in-world perspective, if you are Westerosi, are there any redeeming qualities to Valyrian culture? And I think we can answer that question by asking ourselves, is there anything salvageable from the past, even if the past was terrible? Even if what we perceive of Old Valyria wavers between a horrific empire based on conquest and slavery, and an idealized homeland full of magical dragonriders, depending on who is doing the telling, if we accept it as a fully fleshed out world, then I think we can remember no cultures are monoliths. Old Valyria had art, architecture, fashion, music, literature, and I like to imagine that there were good freeholders, perhaps even Valyrian versions of the Roman Stoics and the Cynics, who raised moral objections to slavery. Certainly the Valyrian "freeholder" government itself, a kind of proto-democracy, similar to that of Athens, was innovative for its particular time and place, even if it was not as democratic as our modern democracies are, and that model of government is replicated throughout Essos, where strict hereditary monarchy seems to be relatively uncommon. Valyria also had a great deal of religious freedom, which persists throughout Essos as well. And as with any empire, it's important to keep in mind that the ruling class made up only a small percentage of actual Valyria, and we know there were Valyrians who were not dragonlords but just normal people, going about their lives who had nothing to do with the atrocities committed, and those people were telling stories, creating art, writing songs, and producing culture too. So I think, tying back into how GRRM uses Valyria and Essos in his narrative, we do not have to discard the past entirely, nor do in-world Targaryens, but it's the romanticization that's the problem, and I think that's something that both in-world characters and readers are cautioned against.

A multi-generational saga courses across the pages of Ædnan, by Sámi-Swedish author Linnea Axelsson, translated from the Swedish by Saskia Vogel. The verse epic follows an Indigenous Sámi family who have herded reindeer for generations, as the forces of colonialism and modern development of their ancestral lands threaten their culture and livelihood. The story is told by a small chorus of characters from the 1910s through the current day, and we become especially close to Lise, who left her Sámi family, following her brother Jon-Henrik, to be educated at a residential school for “Nomad” children. This excerpt from Chapter XII takes place in the early 1970s, along the Great Lule River Valley, where the state-owned Vattenfall company was developing hydroelectric resources, and Lise is graduating into a world unimaginable to her parents.
. .
The river climbed silently up the hills
as soon as Vattenfall whistled it came creeping:
Streamed backwards up its deep channel and drowned the earth
When the great Suorva Dam for the third time was to be regulated
Entreaty
shone from Mama’s eyes
She explained clearly to the Swedes
that the fishing will suffer if the water rises
There was probably no one who understood what she was saying
– –
After the social studies lesson I went with the others to sit on the gymnasium floor
Almost all of Malmberget’s students had been dismissed from class
– To participate in the miners’ strike meeting
 –
Someone had heard that Olof Palme was coming
that he would travel all the way up here
To the mining company’s and Vattenfall’s world the one that he himself had helped build
It is what he is guarding
It is all that he can see
The mine boss’s voice
flowed wildly above the crowded hall which was hot with bodies
His voice was so robust his conviction so intense
I glanced at Anne who was sitting beside me leaning against the wall bars
and she smiled back at me
Soon we would be leaving school too
And could start working join the union
You took the job you wanted that’s all there was to it
–
Switchboard cleaner or cook
with the old folks at the Pioneer or the children in day care
– –
I spend the weekend up at Mama and Papa’s
I stand with Jon-Henrik
 –
Watching the river flow murky across the slope
That brushy slope
where he and I used to go it’s underwater now
 –
How are our tracks ever to be heard Among the Swedes’ roads and power stations
It’s Jon-Henrik who says this he had also been drawn down to the dam
To work for Vattenfall as soon as school was done
 –
I’m surprised when he says
That he’d preferred to have taken up with the reindeer
Been elected into the Sámi community
And learned to guide that wandering gray soft ocean across the world of the fells
Just as the lot of us were once taught at the Nomad School that this is what the Sámi do
that this is how we all live
He laughs and says:
Who knows what the spring flood will bring with it
this drowned  earth may yet be fertile

Okay but I just saw 31 (what would their tumblr look like) and I need the answer for Reggie, Willie, Carrie and Julie plz plz plz.
Reggie -all the cute animal pictures and videos he can find with tags in all caps about what a good doggo/kitty/whatever they are -star wars fanfic and gifsets, some of them made by him (his han/luke coffee shop au is notoriously unfinished) -obnoxious julie and the phantoms stanning, since no one who follows him knows he is part of jatp and he laughs at the thirsty posts about his bandmates, though the ones about him he never reblogs and even gets accused of being a reggie hater, which makes him laugh so hard he cries
Willie -every post regarding tony hawk stories he can find, because willie stans him AND thinks it's hilarious no one knows who he is -pictures of his art/graffiti/faceless shots of Alex (all his shots of Alex are tagged #being gay would do crime for him) -unhinged cracky posts about cryptids, he reblogs Carlos' Ghoster Toaster blog updates a lot as well
Carrie -has a very aesthetic blog full of celebrities and her aspirations -very much tells you who she is in a small bit of self promo and has a pretty healthy following (though she blocks all requests for feet pics) -does occasionally reblog posts calling for aid around the world, to be the 'good celeb' but always does it for issues affecting the Philippines as it's a part of her dad's heritage
Julie -uses it as a place to put song lyrics and poems that won't work for the band but she wants out of her brain-a new kind of dreambox (she sets them to private when she doesn't want reggie to find them yet) -has a whole set of posts reblogged of shoes, even pictures of her own collection, though some more intense sneakerheads give her flak for doodling on hers -complains about her himbos and band drama in spanish, but she has a loyal bunch of latino followers who are urging her to ask a certain himbo (or two) out already because it's pretty dang obvious how she feels about him/them

Metalocalypse Characters & What Their Tumblr Blogs Would Look Like
Masterlist
Post Type: Headcanons
Warnings: None
A/N: idk man im bored
======
Nathan:
Mostly follows tags he deems "brutal"
Doesn't really post his own stuff much, but reblogs dark and gritty aesthetic pictures
Enjoys reading original poems and stories from Tumblr writers
Follows tags like DnD, Fantasy, etc
Pickles:
Reblogs heritage posts mostly
Probably follows a lot of gritty tags and reblogs mood boards
His blog is a mess (like my main blog)
Also follows all his bandmates
Cries when he sees everyone saying they were born in the wrong generation because they wanted to see SnB in their prime
Skwisgaar:
He has two blogs. His main blog is all aesthetic pictures and mood boards while his second blog is skincare and haircare tips
He posts in both English and Swedish (his English is slightly better than Toki's, but not by very much)
Aside from aesthetic pictures, he's posted a lot on dragons
Secretly adores Toki's cat pictures
Toki:
You already know this guy posts/reblogs cats (and cute birbs)
He also might post a lot in Norwegian (him typing anything in English is adorable, he's trying)
Follows his bandmates
Probably also follows the cottagecore tag
Murderface:
Reads what little fanfiction there is about himself
Actually really adores Tumblr, but would never say it
Will join in on the discourse
Reblogs a lot of horror and history kinds of stuff
Charles:
Only has Tumblr because of the band
Reblogs plant care tips
Also follows everyone else
Will reblog Toki's cat pictures and gets a chuckle out of Pickles' reblogs
Knubbler:
Also a cat post enjoyer
He's probably akin to a Tumblr Hipster TM and a Tumblr Veteran
Remembers 2013-2015 Tumblr fondly
His blog is mostly pictures of cats and him finding out new stuff about his eyes ("you're never gonna believe what i found out my eyes can do! *does something weird* SEE?!")
Isn't even Tumblr famous from Dethklok, he's Tumblr famous for his story on how he lost his eyes
Magnus:
Either one of two things: he runs a Dethklok hate page (pre-doomstar) or he runs a vent blog (post-doomstar)
In the case of a vent blog, he mostly vents through music and posts mostly guitar covers of miscellaneous songs and takes requests. The first song he posts is an entirely instrumental song that takes you through a whirlwind of emotions and is based entirely off of him joining Dethklok, being kicked, seeking revenge, failing, and healing (aka The Rise and Fall of The Hammer)
In the case of a Dethklok hate page, he goes under a pseudonym and spreads slander and digs up dirt about the band
(Based on my Fix-It Fic: Might also post pictures of his therapy cat, Magna)

I hate typing on mobile (this is most likely why I'm bad at replying to people, I should really go back to using Tumblr on my laptop but the fucking video side thingy annoys me so much now) but A Thought after seeing the many translations of Dr. Refaat Alareer's work into multiple languages after his martyrdom:
Seeing all those translations of his poem voluntarily done by so many people reminded me of this post I saw the other day by a - possibly *the* - conlanger person Tumblr which answered an ask where a person asked them if they would translate a phrase ('not all those who wander are lost') for them into one of the languages they had created. The response was a very long one in which it was translated, but began by saying something along the lines of 'Do you know how much work goes into translating?' and 'Translation is my least favourite part' or something, and about how difficult it is to translate because a sentiment or concept in the original language may not be a thing in the other language and culture you're trying to translate to and that the response had taken 2 hours to do.
And I don't know all that much about this person so I could be wrong but it really struck me after seeing so many voluntary translations of Dr. Refaat's poem, that some of us live in translation almost all the time. That it's the difference between people whose native languages aren't English or who are bilingual or have a heritage language other than English vs. (white) English monolinguals or those who grew up speaking English and never had to bother with other languages other than 'for fun' or out of desire and not necessity.
It's an especially sharp edge, so sharp you don't even feel it at first and only notice after, to consider the Palestinians - and indeed almost everyone else whose native languages aren't English but who conduct themselves in English non-stop all the time on the internet in English - speaking in English, posting in English, all of the time so that they can raise awareness and appeal to those imperialist and colonial denizens and the global community.

i want to get into poetry. help?
my dear i'm going to be real with you -- i may not be the best person to ask if you want to Seriously get into poetry because nearly Everything i read is contemporary (i know i need to branch out. i know.). that being said, a great method is to just go down an absolute rabbit hole after discovering a poem you like.
there are a lot of ways to read poetry. while it's good to pay attention to craft and all that comes with it, you don't need to be an expert in literary techniques to appreciate poetry -- plenty of good poems can speak to you otherwise! as you read more poetry, you'll gain more skills. the only way to begin is by beginning, etc. the only thing i can say is really sit with poems! don't rush through them. in short works, every word counts and will make your reading experience better.
i think hanif abdurraqib is a fantastic starting point for people who aren't super into poetry, especially if they find it flowery or difficult to understand. hanif is super grounded and real while still writing beautifully. some of my favorite poems of his are "and what good will your vanity be when the rapture comes", "poems on an email exchange", "when i say that loving me is kind of like being a chicago bulls fan", "dudes, we did not go through the hassle of getting these fake ids for this jukebox to not have any springsteen", among many many others.
my favorite poet of all time is kaveh akbar, who is actually the poet that formally got me really into poetry. he is beautifully lyrical without being over the top and i cannot recommend his collection pilgrim bell enough. that being said, "stop me if you've heard this one before" is the poem of his that was my gateway drug. other poems i love very much include "forfeiting my mystique", "the palace", "against dying", "heritage", "i wouldn't even know what to do with a third chance", and i'm going to stop here before i go crazy. if you're into poetry readings, he did this lecture/panel/thing a few years ago -- he has a really hypnotizing, gorgeous style of reading poetry that i love.
other contemporary poets who i love include cameron awkward-rich, franny choi, solmaz sharif, ada limón, natalie diaz, summer farah, ocean vuong, and dante émile (who is here on tumblr!). this is a very very short list shaped by my personal preferences -- if you send me a dm with the vibes you like, i can probably get a more specific list of actual poems. to sound a little cultured, a slightly older poet who i love very much is frank o'hara, which, you know, basic choice, but he's special to me.
in short: find a poem you like, and follow the rabbit! there are so many poems just online. a secondhand bookshop is also a great place to start building a physical collection, if you want to get into that (you totally should, eventually, once you find poets you like -- sometimes you have the worst day at work and you just need to lay in bed with your favorite poems in hand).

via this poll you are now being given the once in a lifetime opportunity to wield the ropes of fate for a random tumblr girl and decide what language they will be learning next (not through duolingo or something, but, like, hopefully, through their uni or a real tutor from next year), which could, by butterfly effect, determine the future of their life path. they’re fluent in russian and pretty decent at french, and, being a Humanities Guy they think it’s embarrassing that they don’t know at least one other language. here are the brief benefits and drawbacks of each
yiddish
as an ashkenazi jew growing up in a completely assimilated, secularised post-soviet family needless to say i’m disconnected from my heritage :)) this is all about reconnecting. it’s also about some fucking awesome songs and idioms and expressions and phrases and poems and stories that i want to know and understand so. cultural reasons. plus, it’s an endangered language that is slowly gaining more and more new learners so why not join the revival. afaik my great grandmother back in belarus spoke nothing but yiddish
hebrew
similar enough reasons, but this is specifically about rediscovering the religious side of judaism, which entails doing a lot of reading books and the torah and finding a synagogue to attend and a community to meet and a lot of googling and a lot of gathering information and also this, learning the holy language of the jewish people. my dad understands it quite well, as do my uncle and cousins, who are currently coloniser settlers in palestine. that’s the downside — learning hebrew may convince my zionist parents that it is now acceptable to begin hounding me once more to sign up for the Free Israel Youth Propaganda Trip (it is not acceptable nor welcome. leave me alone for the love of g-d i want no part in this)
spanish
almost (not going to risk upsetting brazilians) an entire continent and a couple of countries around the globe speak spanish — versatile that way and i wanna travel someday and not act like a Shitty British Tourist…it’s similar enough, being a romance language, to french, which i already know…i’m familiar with at least a couple dozen words and understand some of it quite well…there’s a lot of bomb ass literature written in it, and why read in translation when you are able to Not Do That…also some cool fuckin mexican goth bands that i found on a spotify playlist the lyrics of which i would like to Understand… and i am currently listening to the mabel podcast
german
same point with the bomb ass literature and bomb ass music, emphasis on the music this time, again, what if i ever decide i want to get into berghain and come to the entrance dragging my lousy brit accent along…my family emigrated to germany before england and lived there all through the late 90s…older brother is fluent in it because of that, and so is granny…studied it for about a year in year8 as an extra class but have forgotten almost everything by now, however, it would be quicker to pick up having the basics down
ukrainian
self explanatory, quite. almost feels like an obligation, considering nationality, considering having fled political repression from the country of the aggressor. similar enough to my mother tongue that i can understand around 40% when written/spoken by others. could be useful for joining volunteering initiatives, charity work, mutual aid, translation help for refugees. also, beautiful slavic culture, folk music, art and literature, though i haven't yet read much of it.

a bookbinder from bremerton?? id love to see some of your work! is there a tag i should check out on your tumblr?
Nope. I'm not that organized. Also, Tumblr is not where i go to work. It's where i go to decompress from my anxiety.
HOWEVER! Just for you!
I gave David Tennant one I made which was inspired by a 14th century almanac style girdle book currently held in the Royal Observatory, Edinborough. It was bigger on the inside and the devil to use! Honoring two characters with one book - The Doctor and The Demon Crowley.
I covered it in gold book cloth and studded with lapis lazuli & silver beads. The coin, attached to the closure cord which i made by hand as well, is a replica of ones from China's ancient past, which, if you recall your Classic Who, has very much to do with The Doctor's adventures in China long before anything happened in colour. Gave it to him on 3 March this year in Seattle at Emerald City Comic Con.

WOO HOO! I found 2 photos of David's BIGGER ON THE INSIDE & THE DEVIL TO USE journal. Unexpected bonus! I tend to forget to take photos. I get so absorbed in what i'm doing that i don't think about process.
I am working right now on a literal crown made of zinc which holds 7 little books each of which is a love sonnet-adjacent-poem. The 'sonnets' are arranged in such a way that they form a crown of sonnets. : ) So it's a crown on a couple levels.
I also host a wandering poetry 'open mic' out in local public parks the 2nd Wednesday and 2d Saturday of every month. We meet up at 1:30 p.m. at whichever park I've tried to remember to notify everyone of. : ) Tomorrow it's at Illahee Preserve Heritage Park on Almira Drive, Bremerton. We meet at the picnic pavilion near the carpark. [EDIT: FORGOT TO NOTE THIS - On 13 May 2023, the Heat Index was dangerous enough for those of us local to our climate zone that the weather service issued an extreme heat warning. So I cancelled the event for everyone's safety.]
Hope that is helpful information for you, friend.

A NEW EVENT
Tumblr media
It's Native American Heritage Month. It's been a long time since I've done an event on here so I thought I'd start organizing one:
Thanksgiving 2021 is November 25th. Since that's a difficult time of the year for a lot of Natives / First Nations people, let's turn it into something worth celebrating.
If you're Native American / First Nations on November 25th, use the hashtag #TAKEBACKTHANKSGIVING on Tumblr, Twitter, TikTok, or any social media platform and post a selfie, art, links to your CashApps/Venmo/Paypal, videos, poems, anything that makes you proud to be Indigenous.
You can submit your favorite movies, actors, activists, Native characters, Native content creators, anything that you feel celebrates and uplifts indigenous people and our voices.
If you are Native and own a shop or online store, advertise it here!
If you would like The Aila Test to add links to articles/documentaries/other sources that detail the horrors of Thanksgiving, let us know. We will set up a tag if you’d like to blacklist it, but I think it would be helpful and healing for everybody if we made this day more about us, our accomplishments, our creation, our pride, and our personal growth and happiness.
If you choose that day to mourn the loss of your family and ancestors, feel free to submit a tribute to them as well. Please know that we love and support you.
See you on Novemeber 25th.

Do you feel you write better or even more poetry when in a relationship vs single?
When you write your love poems do some or all surround a particular person in your mind or is this more fantasy based like a story only you can see/read?
How long have you been a writer of poetry? What got you started?
How long have you been a history professor? Do you teach local history or world history? What decided you on being a professor of history?
Are you on Instagram as well?
Thank you in advance for your time and attention to answering some or all of my questions.
An entire interview, all in one go 😆.
First question: I don’t know because I’ve only been writing poetry for about five years, and been in a relationship all this time. But I would say, yes being in a happy relationship does give me inspiration.
Which comes to the second question: My romantic and sensual love poems are all inspired by the love of my life. However, I have also written friendship (platonic) love poems inspired by a close friend.
Question 3: I have been writing poetry for not very long. I started in 2016. A former friend of mine was posting her poetry on Instagram. I had shown her some poetry I was dabbling with, and she posted them on her account. They were an instant success, and she urged me to create my own Instagram account. Skipping to question 5, I was on Instagram for four years and had a rather successful account. But as Instagram is chock full of rock star wannabes, fakes, cyber bullies and stalkers, I deleted my account and left that rat race a year ago. I’m exclusively on only Tumblr and Pinterest. Much quieter and peaceful.
Question 4: I have been teaching as a grad student since 2014 and obtained my PhD in 2017. I teach ancient history. Mesopotamia and ancient Anatolia. I have always had a passion for history. We cannot understand the present if we do not understand our past. We cannot know where we’re going if we do not know from where we came. Our human history is our heritage. Our identity. It is the laboratory of the human experience. I teach it with pride.

Every month of 2021 ♡
post your favorite or most popular post from each month this year <3 (it’s okay to skip months!)
tagged by: @endverse - thank you so much gen!
So I started/ moved to this tumblr mid year - so I'll start when I started posting stuff and I'll also pick one edit and one piece of writing for each month and I'll go with my favourites as opposed to most popular posts.
JULY
Edit: Claire Novak & Good Girls lyrics - the only thing I made in July but I really like it! Screen Violence by Chvrches is definitely in my top 3 albums of 2021 and this song just fits Claire so well! And I like my use colours as well.
AUGUST
Edit: Dean Winchester & Final Girl lyrics - more Chvrches! We all love our final girl Dean!
Writing: My Father's Son - a Dean poem about heritage & legacy - still one of my favourite spn poems I've ever written!
SEPTEMBER
Edit: Horror in Daylight - Loved trying to make screencaps from Baby have a more horror-like colouring, but also trying to keep its bright day setting.
Writing: I Carry Corpses - a Dean poem about grief, also one of my favourites!
OCTOBER
Edit: Monster Movie coloured according to B&W era tinting conventions - this is really niche, but I really like it! Black & white films were in reality often originally showed tinted and there were conventions for how to do it, e.g. blue for night and green for the mysterious.
I'm gonna do two for this month since I really like Revenge: Dean vs. the Styne family as well. I'm really happy with the colours in this one - I think it has the feel of a sort of fun & stylised modern horror/thriller.
Writing: An Oddly Specific Spell Ingredient - a Sam POV Destiel fic, lighthearted & humours 5k fic. Also features a sly & awesome Rowena. I'm quite proud of this one as I think I managed to keep all the characters quite in-character.
And fave poem: The Longing of Dean Winchester - a Dean & Destiel poem about longing.
NOVEMBER
Edit: Destiel & Safe From Heartbreak lyrics - I had fun playing around with text placement and I like how it turned out!
Writing: Poemnatural - I started this sort of crazy project where I attempt to write one poem for each episode of spn! Fave of this month: Foundations of Dead Women - a meta-textual poem on S01E01
Non-Poemnatural poem: The Ruin of Your Father's House - a lemony/limey and blasphemous Destiel poem.
DECEMBER
Edit: The beauty of American Nightmare - just stared this series to highlight shots I find particularly beautiful/interesting/cool in 12.04 - it's fun because there are some truly stunning shots in this episode!
Writing: Poemnatural: Roots - a S01E09 poem about the toxicity of places you have called home.
Non-Poemnatural poem: The Rules - a poem about how John's words have harmed Dean's self-worth. My more in-depth though on this particular poem can be found here.
Tagging:
I think most of my taglist besties has already done variation of this but if you want to do another: @emeraldcas @supernatural-jaeger @jactingjoices @chapeldean - but do feel free to ignore this. (You already posted yours while this sat in my draft @lengthofropes ❤ but do go check hers out - so much good content!) Since I've been very sporadically online during the holidays I might have missed it if you've already done it, but if you want to I'd love to see ones from @knifelesbianjo and @crossroadsdirt as well! Also tagging anyone else who wants to do it!
