तुम इश्क मुश्क की बातें करते हो

मर मिटने के वादे देते हो

मैंने तो लेखक से मुहब्बत की है जनाब

ये तो आए दिन अपना प्रेम पन्नो पे मेरे नाम गुलज़ार करते है

खुद से मुलाकात हो गई

कुछ भी तो कहा नहीं

मगर ज़िन्दगी से बात हो गई

तुम ही तो थे, जिसने किताबों से मेरी दोस्ती कराई थी, वो शख्स जिसने उन हर एक लफ्ज़ से मोहब्बत कराई थी, उस वक्त, ना गुलज़ार, ना ग़ालिब से ज़्यादा वाक़िफ़ थी, बस तुम्हें पढ़ता देख मुस्कुरा जाती थी,

जब तुम रूमी से प्रेरणा लेकर, वो रातें अपने लफ़्ज़ों से मेरे हृदय पे सजा देते थे, बस वही आज याद आ गया, कभी किसी से नहीं कहा पर याद तुम अकसर आते हो, रात वही सितंबर की और वही किताब जो तुम ने दी, दोनो ही साथ मौजूद हैं, सिवाय इक तुम्हारे।

हाँ, याद आते हो, कितना ही समझाऊँ इस हृदय को, तुम ही याद आते हो, कितना ही झूठ कहूँ इस दुनिया से, उस सखी से जिसने तुम्हारे जाने के बाद मुझे संभाला और इस कतई भ्रष्ट हृदय से की भूल चुकी हूँ तुम्हें लेकिन कितनी ही कोशिश करलूँ, राह में तुम ही नज़र आते हो,

सितंबर की रातें बहुत कष्ट देती हैं, किसी से बयां करो तो कहते हैं, सब ठीक हो जाता हैं, पर सब कुछ ठीक नहीं होता, इस खालीपन को, जो कभी मोहब्बत हुआ करती थी, ये ऐसा खालीपन हैं जिसमें बस कष्ट भरी यादें हैं।

आसमाँ हद्द-ए-नज़र राहगुज़र राहगुज़र शीशा-ए-मय शीशा-ए-मय

और अब शीशा-ए-मय राहगुज़र रंग-ए-फ़लक

रंग है दिल का मिरे ख़ून-ए-जिगर होने तक

चम्पई रंग कभी राहत-ए-दीदार का रंग

सुरमई रंग कि है साअत-ए-बेज़ार का रंग

ज़र्द पत्तों का ख़स-ओ-ख़ार का रंग

सुर्ख़ फूलों का दहकते हुए गुलज़ार का रंग

ज़हर का रंग लहू रंग शब-ए-तार का रंग

आसमाँ राहगुज़र शीशा-ए-मय

कोई भीगा हुआ दामन कोई दुखती हुई रग

कोई हर लहज़ा बदलता हुआ आईना है

अब जो आए हो तो ठहरो कि कोई रंग कोई रुत कोई शय

एक जगह पर ठहरे

फिर से इक बार हर इक चीज़ वही हो कि जो है

आसमाँ हद्द-ए-नज़र राहगुज़र राहगुज़र शीशा-ए-मय शीशा-ए-मय
