Cherokee Double Wall Basket Purse
ᎯᎠ ᏔᎷᏣ ᎠᏬᏢᏅ - I made this basket!
ᎦᎵᏉᎩ ᎢᏳᏟᎶᏓ - 7 hours
Gauge 3 round reed, 1/2" flat reed belt, some half oval reed at the base. Gauge 2 round reed bow.
An experimental commission! Basket itself is about 10 inches deep. Thrifted the shoulder chain from a belt. 🤔 Going to look into this more since I need the income and I like the direction of making these more accessible/ easy to use.

I want to learn the Cherokee language
My mother speaks a fair amount of Cherokee and Gaelic, so does my sister, grandmother and most members of my family.
We’ll likely be going to visit family on the reservation this summer, and while obviously they weren’t all only speaking Cherokee, it still feels weird being the only one who doesn’t speak any of it.
Are there any good ( free ) resources? I’ve heard of an online children’s show, I just can’t find it anywhere as I don’t remember the name. Any help would be appreciated!

Pixel Font: Feedback Appreciated!
So I'm making a pixel font, where I try to make letter bodies 7 tall or less. One of my goals is for it to support a wide variety of writing systems. But because this includes scripts I'm not familiar with, it's hard for me to get a feel for what looks right or wrong in the letters I've drawn. So if you see this and you speak a language that uses one of these writing systems, or consider yourself familiar with them for any reason, I would appreciate any feedback you could give. My main focus is in making it readable within the font's limitations; I would like to make it look natural and good-looking for the standards of that writing system, but if that's not possible with my limitations then that's alright.
Somewhat-complete scripts: Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek, Kana, Ge'ez/Amharic, Hangul, Hebrew, Tsalagi/Cherokee, Armenian.
WIP scripts: Devanagari
Sample Images:

Again, if you regularly use any of these writing systems and you want to give feedback, I would appreciate it very much!
List of edits since the original post was made:
-Adjusted some glyphs to improve legibility for Armenian & Hebrew
-Fixed ligature encoding in Arabic
(also standalone ه is narrower now)

Alitsanosga pronouns guide
I use the pronoun set hi’a/vsgina/utseli/utseli/uwasa. These are pronouns in my Indigenous language, and unlike english, all our pronouns and pronoun prefixes are entirely neutral!
To me, using these pronouns is an act of decolonization. It is refusing to accept this new binary as it is forced upon me and instead carving my own path. It’s done with no small amount of spite to everyone who tried to fit me neatly into he or she or those who insisted I was other.
It is very important to me to use these. If you are having trouble or there is an access issue, please talk to me and we can work something out.
How to use and pronounce them!
Subjective: hi’a
Pronounced “hee-ah”
IPA: /hiʔa/
Syllabary ᎯᎠ
hiɂa is pronounced with a glottal stop, which is the sound (or lack of) in some english words like the sound between “uh-oh”
I am choosing to use an apostrophe to denote the glottal stop as english keyboards do not have a glottal stop.
Objective: vsgina
Pronounced “uh-shuh-gee-nah” with a hard g.
IPA: /ə̃ʔʂgina/
Syllabary ᎥᏍᎩᎾ
The “v” syllable is a nasalized schwa, but difficult to do for English speakers. Think of it like the “uh” at the end of “pizza” and don’t worry if you can’t do it properly.
Possessive determiner: utseli
Pronounced “oo-zay-lee”
IPA: /ʉt͡seli/
Syllabary ᎤᏤᎵ
Speakers of the Otali dialect may pronounce it as “oo-jay-lee” and this is also correct
Possessive pronoun: utseli
Pronounced same as the possessive determiner “oo-zay-lee”
IPA: /ʉt͡seli/
Syllabary ᎤᏤᎵ
Reflexive: uwasa
Pronounced “oo-wah-shah”
IPA: /ʉwaʂa/
Syllabary ᎤᏩᏌ
Speakers of Otali dialect may pronounce it as “oo-wah-sah” and this is also correct. The invasive h is characteristic to the Kituwah dialect.
Also please do not call these “neopronouns” when referring to them/how I use them. These pronouns are older than singular he/she. Some Tsalagi use similar sets and some use english pronouns, this is just my preference.
That’s it! Let me know if you have questions, need help, or anything. If there’s an access barrier I am very willing to work with people on that but so far have had no issues.

Pokeberry dyed reeds.
Poke is a plant my grandmother and I would forage growing up, the plant is toxic so it has to be prepared right, you cannot eat the berries at all.
The ratio for pokeberry is 25:1 😊 had some trial and error with this. Foraged the berries myself and the second go around was more of a berry mash than a dye mix.

I love this so much I don't even have the words to express my gratitude to the person who sent this to me. I can't really read any of it but that's okay, it's in my hands and I can stare at it and love it and maybe someday, I'll be able to read some of it.

Thanks! I’m learning and this helped me alot. It’s so much harder on the keyboard

Sweetbitter
Tumblr media
“We once had burning fingertips on soft mornings.
Gloves of ice cold water to protect from the fire.
It hurt anyway. We didn’t care.
We are creating, you whispered, we are creation.
Honey dripping over open wounds, we relished the sting and our time together. They stung just the same.
Hands held together, stuck together, for a time that ended far too soon.
A little bit of sweetness for the bitter soon to come.”
