your fans would look up to you a lot. it's giving "these are my kids" energy. you may pay off their student loans or even party with some of them on a night out if you see them. you might appeal to a younger crowd - teens, college, and early adults. your fans see you as fair and as a pillar of authority. they look to you to determine how to move and act as a fandom. you act as the compass for order in their eyes. whatever you say to do, they will do. want to win a specific award? your fans will make sure they buy enough albums and vote enough for you to win it. want to collab with a specific artist? your fans will flood that person's timeline to make sure you two interact. it's almost like they fulfill your wishes! it reminds me of the saying ARMYs have about "anything yoongi wants, yoongi gets".

the general public may have some conflict with you. some people may be prejudiced towards you (maybe because of race, gender, sexuality). some of the public will be hasty to judge you and bash you. this feeling will change fairly quickly. the public will realize they were wrong to judge you and feel horrible about what they did. some people may pray for your downfall and instead bring their own because it's like negativity towards you is reflected back on those who want to harm you; this goes back to you being heavily protected. in the end, the general public will see you as trustworthy and fair. some will think you're very innovative and great at executing your creative ideas. you could become a county's favorite artist. kind of like how Girls Generation is seen as the "Nation's Girl Group'' in South Korea - that would be your title as a soloist. the general public would end up doting over you and loving you.

you'd probably be the main rapper in this group. your group's music would be fast-paced and energetic. tons of choreography and you all would do major concept changes often. you all would also travel often or experiment with different cultural music. your sound would be bold - you might talk about taboo topics (ie. addiction, sex, violence, obsessions, death). your music might get spoiled before release. there may also be some times when the album is expected to debut on a certain day, and it isn't released until later - maybe because of music clearances or lack of preparation. your music would force people to confront difficult life topics instead of ignoring them. you all would also help people with mental health issues because they relate to the music so well.

your group would achieve a ton, but i still think your company would be a little tight on finances. your company may be cutting it close to making payments on time, but you and the other members would be financially stable. the company would stay afloat, but it's like they struggle with money management maybe? you also would have a strong fanbase and a strong personal group sound (even while exploring so many genres). i feel like your company's struggles would impact the group and bring down morale. you all would have good successes but it's like your company takes you one step forward and three steps back. regardless, you all pushing through would just create more inspiration for music which in turn makes your fans appreciate and relate to you all more.

i feel like fans would feel very protective and proud of you. the mismanagement of funds happening within the company would be revealed to the fans and public, but your fandom still has fierce loyalty to you all. they outwardly call out the mismanagement and want better for you all. you might have a lot of sasaengs because of fans' fierce loyalty to you. specific to you, fans may feel like you're very masculine or heavily into you masculine energy. you may be seen as the "sunshine" of the group. people look to you for happiness; there may be tons of compilations of your funny moments. you're like a light to a room to your fans and others.

the general public learns a lot from you all. that sounds nice, but i think they mostly learn how not to run a company. you all definitely start important societal conversations on taboo topics like explained before, but that really gets overshadowed by company misadventures. people may see your company as young and maybe ignorant of how to be run? they'll feel like your company is abusing their power. you all may not get tons of promotion, so you may only be known to the public for your company's failures.

you'd probably be a vocalist. your music would have a theme all throughout your discography. it would be very consistent, and the albums would play beautifully altogether. each song would fade into the other and almost seem like a movie with just music. people may think you steal songs or there might be plagiarism controversies. someone from the group might be ousted, and that may be talked about in the music or hang over the group for a long time. this might be connected to the music you make in that your group isn't afraid to talk about being left behind and having to forge your own journey. someone in the group may be lazy.

i think your group might break up, and you become a soloist? then, you'd be left to prove your worth in the music industry. you would come out on top, and let people know that you have a message that you're getting out regardless of the struggles you have to go through in order for it to be heard. i think ultimately you'll be left to work behind the scenes in the music industry - maybe as a songwriter or producer. it'll be the situation of people wanting to hear your words and you wanting to get them out, but it only materializes when it's told through someone else if that makes sense.

your group career would be very messy. again, some members would be lazy; others would have bad attitudes and either be jealous and even violent. there's tons of in-fighting between members, and it's a major mess for everyone involved. you personally will not be like that though! you'd be the member others feel like they can trust and confide in. you're insightful and might even protect your members who are being bullied or on the receiving end of jealousy. similarly to pile two, your group's album would experience delays - due to plagiarism, samples not being cleared, lazy members, etc.

your group produces music that's similar to what you all would be experiencing - troubled and emotional youth, manipulation, moodiness, immaturity, and unrequited love. despite all the in-group issues, you all would experience success for a time! ultimately, it will go away due to company mismanagement and all the group issues coming to light.

fans might not like you because of what messy group members say about you. they'll say you're attention seeking and manipulative even though it's other members doing those exact things and NOT you. you might feel isolated because of the hate you receive. you may think no one likes you, and you might stare off during interviews because you're being ignored. you'd feel really lonely. as you keep going, you will gain strength and feel confident enough in the fact that you know you're a good person despite others believing the opposite. you'll know your truth is more grounding that others' lies. i think this is what will ultimately lead to you preferring to be behind the scenes rather than in the light of the music industry.

i don't think the general public will hate you as much as fans seem to. the general public would be way more understanding of circumstances and would be willing to hear your side of the story rather than blindly believing you members. you'd have a major impact on the collective, and you might even become an expert in whatever you do behind the scenes. i think people will see that you were used by the machine called the music industry and would feel for you. i also think the public would pick up on the fact that you eventually feel unsure about your musical abilities. they'll see you as disorganized because of how the industry left you. your past would be at the forefront of the general public's mind, so it would be best for you to work behind the scenes, so the music can speak for itself rather than you speaking for the music.

you'd probably be a main dancer and a vocalist (but not a main vocal). your group's music would be shocking. it would deal with topics like manipulation, gossip, paranoia, and the theme might revolve around uncovering secrets and overcoming those who want to harm you. almost like a horror concept! i'm slightly reminded of xdinary heroes or even rage against the machine. your music would seek to uncover immorality in the world and put it in the face of society instead of trying to hide it like we've been taught to. super unique concept! your listeners get the feeling that they can uncover and fight through anything after listening to your music. the music is very strong (maybe even in the rock genre for some of you), and there's a confidence in the music (including sexual confidence).

there's strong sexual themes in your music. femme fatale and dominatrix vibes are present. this group would be filled with strong female figures who are confident in who they are. in some instances, you all want to be seen as arrogant in order to provide a view of women that's not often seen in the music scene - at least not in a way where women are in control of their own power. this group would play off of gender stereotypes and archetypes in order to make a point to society. again, super creative concepts, and it might even include the occult! like divination tools might be seen in the background of some of your music videos. the point is to show young women that they can be powerful and also know when to hold back in order to show all sides of that power.

your fans might be on the younger side - teens and young adults. they will like giving you handmade messages and gifts. it's almost giving you being the older sibling, and your fans are the younger sibling who looks up to you. they learn a lot about themselves from you, and see you as this intellectual that has great creative ideas. they also see you as just and fair and might come to you for advice. they may see their future selves in you and look up to you because of that. both of you have tons of love for one another (it's so cute!).

the general public may not really like you. you may disappoint them because there's this societal view they have of how gender roles should be enforced or how your group should behave, and you all totally go against that. it's like they're thinking "that group would help themselves out if they just followed with the standards. they make it hard on themselves". they see you all as immoral and a bad influence on the younger society. they also see you all as delusional.

reader's note: do not think of the general public's view as a bad thing! personally, it's important to remember that change only comes when society is forced to confront irrational and prejudicial thinking. if anything, the general public viewing you as this is a compliment in my opinion.

you'd be the face of the group/the center - maybe a visual position? your group focuses on love songs and relationships. you all would talk about all the ups and downs of creating, maintaining, and losing relationships. i feel like on the outside, the concepts of each title track might be visually very different, but the major theme of relationships would always be present. for example, there would be a very rosy and cheery song about how in love you all are in a romantic relationship (like a Twice title track), and then your next comeback would be more solemn and serious about how you lost a loved family member or something like that (like what's mentioned in DaBaby's "Gucci Peacoat"). you all would have long lasting careers and be seen as good senior musicians. you all would probably be very personally involved in the music making process. your music would be very comforting and relatable for whoever listens to it. i think you'd give many people hope when it comes to handling relationships.

i feel like the group's music heavily focuses on emotional connections - so much so that spiritual and occult elements might be present in the process or music videos and things of that nature. your group might be seen as mysterious outside of the music you all make. it's like you all are only focused on the music aspect in the public eye and don't really reveal a ton about your deep personal lives (like siblings or TMIs or things like that). you all really want to emphasize the music! you and your group members would be very close in personal and professional life! you all may feel more like family members rather than friends which will translate into the music. it's like you all will recognize that you'd achieved your dreams all together and you would cherish one another greatly for that. you all may be internationally famous or gather fame quickly - maybe as soon as you debut! it also may be super easy for you all to make and release music.

i didn't get any cards when shuffling to ask how the general public would view you. i only got the bottom of the deck energy which was The Chariot. i feel like this means your success will be so widespread it's hard to contain how the public views you to a couple tarot cards that may give a more in-depth explanation. they'll see you and your group as having great drive and ambition that leads you all to great success despite a long, uphill battle that comes with pursuing a musical career. i feel like they'd be especially impressed because you all come from a small company? it's like you all started from the absolute bottom to become major stars, and the public finds that admirable.

you might be discovered purely by "chance". maybe you posted a song cover on YouTube or became popular on TikTok, and a label decided to pick you up. your music may have to do with your personal life like your family, how you gained your fame, your life history, and things of that nature. your music would be very motivational and strong. you may be very specific about your aesthetic and visuals because you want to stand out among the artist-filled industry. you would be super competitive when it came to the music game. you might be a rapper? i feel like you'd focus a ton on things like word-play. you also might like making society and listeners think about life, society, and spirituality/their life purpose. i'm reminded of artists like Jhene Aiko and J. Cole. you'd benefit a lot from your fame.

you may be a perfectionist about your craft. you might miss out on healthy sleeping and eating patterns while working on an album. you may love the idea of working yourself until you can't work anymore. you see the struggle of work as a labor of birthing these creative ideas and appreciate each time you can create something new. i know i mentioned earlier that a record label may have wanted to pick you up, but i think you might prefer to be an independent artist. you wouldn't want to be confined to company standards and expectations; you would want to focus on the music. people and companies may want you to fail because of this. they may intentionally block your music from being played on the radio or from being nominated for awards. despite this, you would still gain success from you giving to others and others finding your energy welcoming. a strong group (could be your fans or the collective) would ensure your success.

the general public would see you as someone who made something from nothing. they may not view you as this huge, international superstar, but you would be somewhat known. some parts of the population would be able to recognize you from a photo or from the mention of your name. some of the public may feel like you're delusional in what you're trying to achieve (especially if you're an independent artist going against big companies). i think the general public would also be able to tell that you're spiritually guided and protected. parts of the public will like that you give a fresh perspective to them and the rest of society. you could begin an idea shift in the collective.

You would do best with a career that allows you to add your own touch. You could feel drawn to the prospect of entrepreneurship for a reason, and that is your inate ability to understand, follow, and set trends. You may rarely inspire neutrality, as you are either adored or disliked. This can cause you some hesitation in approaching anything self-made. Nobody wants to be put on blast or have their name dragged through the dirt the second they make a mistake, especially under circumstances where you are left alone to take the blame without a team to lean on, but you do have the benefit of forethought and diplomacy to avoid the worst of it. So long as you stay true to yourself and stay genuine, you have little to fear.

You inspire others, and thus you would do well in showcasing yourself and your lifestyle, your interests and your ideas for others. You would do well in business and in sales, as well as communications. You do well with people and are able to meet others with authenticity and really hear people. You could use your skills to promote important causes or rally people towards necessary changes. A career which allows you to travel and explore the world and write home about it would be very fitting. You can easily embrace different cultures and aren't afraid of trying new things, and your desire and willingness to learn new things is quite endearing and soften up your edges, inviting more warmth to how people perceive you. A chance to provide new solutions to problems or rework how things are done by inventing or designing something new could be really successful for you.

Your best bet career wise would be to turn your passion projects into more than a thing you do on the side. You're creative and may really struggle when you feel unable to extend past limitations set by others. You enjoy variety and are drawn to more unusual concepts or ways of doing things. This creativity could lend itself to many things, but to name a few you would find yourself at ease within art and music, various online endeavours, writing and design. Though you may very well be introverted or simply a little, perhaps consider yourself a little socially awkward, you would do very well when involved with people. In any job, your clientele is met with a friendly and genuine demeanour as you try to meet people as unique individuals with their own stories and needs. You could be drawn to working with animals too, as your compassionate nature lends itself well to helping not just other humans, but animals, and the planet at large.

You could dread the thought of being in the spotlight, but the kind of following you would attract would feel quite familiar to you and rather easy for you to intract with when necessary. If you were to publish a book as an example, your readers would be drawn to your work out of the inherent mutual interest in its themes and thus make interactions fluid rather than awkward. You could even consider some anonymity to protect yourself. Fun will matter a lot in whether a career fits you or not. Work will always be work, but ideally it isn't all work and no play. Having a team of kindred spirits working towards a goal helps in this regard. Even if you wish to fly solo, you're collaborative and would benefit from teamwork and helping others, as well as allowing others to help you in return.

Career wise you may want a little bit of a challenge, and plenty of opportunities for advancement and change. You're ambitious and cunning, and would do well in structured environments. To name a few, you could find it fitting to pursue academia, medicine, science, law, journalism, or anything else which allows you to use your wits and ability to learn and internalize new information. You are organised and steadfast, and a phenomenal problem solver. You could invest yourself in things that leave an impact on society, such as pursuing changes in the juridical sector, pedagogy and education, health care, or politics. Dissertations, articles, or other written works of you could prove very successful and provide objectivity in a world which is ever-increasingly divisive.

You're prone to stress, however, so creating a proper work-life balance is of upmost importance. Knowing when to step away and take a break is a skill that once mastered, you'll be able to wield it in favour of your productivity and take greater leaps in your career. Remember that you work best when you're not ill, aching, and burnt out. Due to your ability to multitask and see many things through, you could work on passion projects on the side. Ex. criminologist moonlighting as a poet or a songwriter. This duality would benefit you as a side hustle which aligns with what you may consider a mere hobby could end up providing you with extra income, which you can use to take good care of yourself and make sure you get to play too.

Your February; Pick-A-Card Collective Tarot Reading

Mkay, so this is a general collective tarot reading. Meaning I made the intention that those who are meant to see this will. The messages that are for you are in the pile/gif you're called to.

Because this isn't a personal reading, every detail may not be for you as an individual. Trust your intuition and what you sense is for you.

You feel that you're in limbo waiting to make a decision as to whether or not you should leave something familiar. For most of you, this is in regards to leaving a home/ a relationship in which there are toxicity & arguments, a religion, institution, and/or some kind of structured routine/tradition. Will you let go of this completely or take a break while you find yourself? The choice is yours this month but you can't stay where you are.

You don't need the answers right away. You need to practice self care and rest. When you let go of the attachment of knowing and you're in a healthier mindset is when you'll receive the answers in time.

Go within instead of focusing on the outside. The answers lay within you; in your heart space. Let go of the past and what doesn't serve you in order to move on. The uncertainty and confusion you're experiencing is from being ungrounded.

Ground yourself and spend time in nature. Focus on yourself and take this time to detach yourself from others. Seek spiritual truths and nurture your connection to your soul, intuition, and the universe.

Meditate. Do things that make you feel good about yourself and your appearance. Affirmations in the mirror, bath bombs, makeup, massages, etc.

You feel the call to something different; a need to shake things up in your life. A vacation. World travel. Learning new things, perspectives, cultures. Meeting new people. You're bored and tired of the mundane, repetitive, day-to-day life. A party with good friends would serve you well.

You need fun, excitement, and to feel like you're serving a purpose in life; something that has meaning. But what is that exactly? You feel directionless and like you don't know where to go.

Pile Two :

Patience is needed this month. This is a long-term vision; it requires nurturing and growth. People don't start off as managers with no experience. You have the inherent ability to take the leadership role and master of your life. There's a definite emphasis of this here in this pile.

You just need to take things step by step and day to day. Figure out what it is this person you're wanting to reconcile with needs and how you can best show up for this person. Study and train in regards to this and your career.

Your general "take charge" personality is relevant in your career and finances this month. Some of you are waiting for a promotion, are hesitant about starting a business, or are waiting for something to come to fruition. You're very well on your way to success with this endeavor and in your life.

Believe in your abilities; you have an intrinsic ability to create, strategize, lead people, manage, and recognize the financial potential in things.

Red and white is of significance. Passion, love, vitality, anger. Purity, innocence, surrender. The reason there has been anger in this connection is because of the passion and love you have for eachother. There is a shadow to every light. 2 sides to each coin.

You'll surrender to your passion for this person and follow it. You're being reminded that deep inside we're all innocent children and doing the best we can with what we have. Let go of the defenses you've put up. Learn to be vulnerable and speak the truth of your feelings and pain without making it about blame.

Let go of the need to present as if you have everything figured out and no weak points to attack. Learn to compromise and to not be domineering. While you may be assessing things accurately, sometimes having people follow your rule book isn't the right thing for them to do.

Sometimes they need to take the time to address their own shadows and figure it out for themselves. Sometimes they just need a space to be heard, compassion, and gentle guidance/suggestions when welcome.

This doesn't mean allowing toxicity or sacrificing your health to validate others' illusions. It just means holding a space for them to be their whole selves; flaws and all. It means having healthy boundaries and walking away when they can't be honored.

Dare to have faith that reconciliation and forgiveness is not only possible; it's being gifted to you by the universe. Have trust and faith that all is well and is working out for the higheat good. Trust your intuition. If now is not the time, something is being prepared so that it can one day be.

Enjoy the journey. Be present and more involved in your life. Don't allow perfectionism prevent you from starting. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Failures are your way to success. "Bad" and "good" are for the greater good.

Some of you are a more masculine/logical/action-orientated person being called towards a feminine/receptive/intuitive person and/or nature. Follow this calling and you will reap rewards.

Pile Three :

You feel that a decision you make will either bring you material success & isolate you from your loved ones or have you compromising your dreams while maintaining your relationships. You may have fought over this with them. They don't want you to move away. But you're not seeing the full picture; there is a balanced solution. A third option. You can have the best of both worlds.

I feel that those you've had arguments with are scared of losing you and are too focused on this. They're not quite seeing your side. Despite their words, you're not selfish and conceited for wanting to follow your dreams. It's not like you want to work so much or move so far away you won't be able to interact enough with them. Ironically, they're the ones focusing too much on their own view point.

You feel stuck. Neither ways of being are something you'd be truly happy in.

The outcome of this argument will be fair. When you have patience and don't blindly steamroll ahead to your desires, you can have redemption and forgiveness. For alot of you, this is with those from childhood/people you've known for a long time/your mother.

Find the in-between. Not the black or white - the grey. The right decision is the one that takes courage and faith. Trust the path that you feel called towards. There will be equal give and take in these relationships and a mutual respect for eachothers' wants and needs.

An example of this is, if your work requires you to move - you can find a place halfway between home and work, visit home often, work from home, find the same type of job offer closer by, etc.

There are three ways to survive the corporate world.

Depending on the outcome one would like to achieve, there are methods more effective than others. However, one thing is certain: climbing up the ranks is the ultimate path to success.

For 28-year old, single, Kim Dokja, doing just enough to not get fired was sufficient.

He never clocked into work very early, avoided staying overtime, refused to take on extra assignments, and exerted the barest of minimums.

And it was fine. Good even. It allowed him to possess a great deal of free time to [read his beloved web novels] mind his own business.

"Yoo Sangah-ssi from the HR Department spoke highly of you. Mino Soft is planning to assemble another group, and after examining your records, the higher ups agreed that you would suit the role of Team Manager quite fittingly."

Kim Dokja stared at his superior, Mr. Kwon. Glanced at the empty seat next to him. Looked over behind his shoulder.

No one else was present in the room except for himself and his direct supervisor, a stubby-legged man who wore suits far too small for his original size.

"Ah," Dokja answered, because there wasn't really anything else for him to say.

The title felt so... foreign, especially for someone like him. He couldn't imagine himself being responsible for anyone.

There is a saying that one's name reflects one's life.

For instance, the name his parents gifted him with, Dokja, meant two things: alone or reader. Up until the present, he's unfortunately lived up to that superstition.

'Alone' and 'team' weren't necessarily words one would put together. Forcing them would likewise spell 'inevitable disaster'.

"Should you decide to accept, your hourly rate will now be increased to ₩17,800," Mr. Kwon continued, mindlessly waving his pen around. The buttons on his shirt seemed dangerously close to popping. Dokja should probably sit farther away. "You'll also be provided with a company card to cover the expenses your team will require."

That... would be a lot of money. Considerably greater than what he was used to receiving at the end of every month.

In hindsight, his current salary as a full-time, ordinary employee was... okay. He's managed to survive this long by cutting corners on meals, turning down social events, and renting out a dwarfish-sized [hole] apartment.

But this offer would definitely be better. Surely there wasn't any other reason for him not to grab the opportunity, right?

His workload would presumably double—that much was to be expected. He'd have to learn how to cooperate with other people, but what risk did not involve stepping out of one's comfort zone?

In times like these, only one sentence came to mind: what would a protagonist do?

A main character would undoubtedly rise to the occasion. If they had the courage to do it all the time, why couldn't he?

He could, he convinced himself. A path has been opened for him towards a more favorable destiny, and this would be his moment. The dawn of an evolution and his long sought-after character development arc.

His superior slid a crisp white folder across the glass table. A newly drafted contract awaiting his signature.

"So, what do you say?"

Team Manager Kim Dokja.

A shiny new plaque now sat neatly on Dokja's otherwise bare desk.

The company was generous enough to allocate him and his future team with an old filing room—which ironically collected more dust than documents—to serve as their office.

Prior to his promotion, Dokja vividly remembers hiding away here to sneak in a few chapters or eat lunch. The rusted metal drawers that previously blocked the windows were now replaced by empty cubicles and enabled sunlight to bathe the room. There was even an alcove tucked away into the corner of the room equipped with kitchen appliances.

Looking at the newly furnished space felt... nice. A bit lonely at the moment, but Dokja was rather used to that. After all, one's name followed one's life, and 'Dokja' meant alone.

He shook his head and clenched his fists. This would be the case no longer. Slowly, these desks will be filled with promising individuals of his own choosing. Individuals he hoped to someday call his companions. Friends.

A knock on his door startled him into sitting upright. He cleared his throat, calling out for the person to come in. The second Mr. Kwon enters, inexplicable dread fills his stomach similar to a balloon being inflated.

Did they change their mind about him? Were they going to take his newly appointed position away because they realized he wasn't really suitable for the role?

Knowing his luck, it wasn't at all impossible.

Mr. Kwon nodded in greeting. "Good morning."

"Good morning, Sajangnim."

"I'm afraid to say this—" his superior began. A terrible sense of foreboding crept with every word he spoke. "But we need you to begin working ASAP."

Dokja inwardly sighed with relief. The imaginary balloon deflates. He wasn't getting demoted. Not today, at least. Hopefully, not for a long while.

Mr. Kwon, oblivious to Dokja's emotional rollercoaster, continued. "I'm aware you haven't had much time to fully settle into the role—"

No kidding. Twenty-four hours haven't even fully gone by since he accepted the offer and he still rode on the high of excitement as he made his way to work this morning.

"—and I figured you wouldn't have any time to select your members right away, so I did you a favor and picked someone out to assist you on my own. Don't worry, they're quite dependable."

The gesture was... unexpectedly nice of Mr. Kwon. Maybe if Dokja put aside a portion of his future paycheck, he would be able to buy his superior a [larger suit] nice potted plant.

"You can come in now," Mr. Kwon announced over his shoulder.

The door creaked open to reveal... you.

Dokja has never seen you around the office before. Granted, he doesn't have the widest social circle inside [and outside] the company, so his inability to recognize you could purely be his fault.

Yet... Dokja's pretty certain he would've remembered someone like you.

He could already tell that your position in life was wholly different in comparison to his solely from your appearance and presence.

It wouldn't be far-fetched to assume that you were from the higher departments. Why would they pair you with an underling like him?

"Hello, Team Manager-nim!" You bowed cheerfully in greeting. "I'll be in your care starting today!"

Dokja flushed, taken by surprise, and hastily bowed as well. It was the first time anyone had called him by his title in person.

Mr. Kwon patted your shoulder. "They were newly hired yesterday. I'm expecting you to show them the ropes."

His mind trailed off into a screeching halt as he registered the latter parts of his supervisor's words.

Wait. What?

He didn't anticipate that you would essentially be a new arrival. Furthermore, he had absolutely zero experience being a... a mentor.

If he had money and eaten breakfast, he would have probably thrown up right now. He should've trusted his gut. There was a reason he felt an ominous foreshadowing at Mr. Kwon's spontaneous visit.

How in the world was he going to take care of you? He barely even managed to pull his own life together. Even then, it was tied together with a flimsy piece of string.

He couldn't do this. He should refuse. Blurt out that Mino Soft was making a huge, huge mistake. To be fair, they already had by even considering and bestowing him such a prestigious position in the first place.

He did not have the ability or knowledge on how to mold someone into their fullest potential. You deserved to be with someone like the sunny Yoo Sangah-ssi. The intelligent Jang Eun-Yeong. You probably would even learn something from the unlikeable Han Myungoh.

"Team Manager-nim?"

Dokja turned his head, snapping out of his thoughts. Mr. Kwon was gone too, leaving behind a stack of paperwork that wasn't with him when he entered. Sly bastard.

"Yes?" Dokja asked.

You blinked. You smiled nervously, looking unsure of yourself. Your expression ignited guilt inside him.

"You can choose whichever table you like." He swung an arm, motioning to the desks. You beamed, approaching the one nearest to his. Your belongings land on its surface with a soft thud.

The sound gave the impression that you had just sealed his inescapable doom.

"Team Manager-nim, your complexion doesn't look so good," you pointed out with worry.

He wasn't off to a great start. He rubbed the back of his neck and sat back down. "Everything's fine. More importantly, you don't actually need to refer to me with my title. Just Dokja is fine."

Was that a wise decision? In truth, it was strange to be addressed so formally.

Your eyes widened. With another respectful bow, you sputtered out, "I don't think it's appropriate for me to call Manager-nim that..."

An awkward silence followed. He coughed into his fist and proceeded to scan the files—a futile attempt to avoid making a conversation. Distant chatter, keyboards clicking, and papers rustling were the only noises that filled the void.

"I know!" You declared with such vigor and enthusiasm that Dokja's knees slammed into his table. You snapped your fingers together. "How about Sunbae-nim?"

BULLETIN BOARD.

Sajangnim (사장님) — literally 사 (sa) means company and 장 (jang) means chief. It is a common Korean corporate title.

Nim (님) — this suffix is a high-level honorific used to show respect to someone.

Ssi (씨) — a suffix used to address people that are roughly on the same level of the social hierarchy.

Seonbaenim / Sunbaenim (선배님) — directly translates as "senior" and refers to people who have more experience in work, school, or etc. Whether the person is older than you or not, if they started earlier than you did, you should call them sunbae.

Single dad Namjoon AU

Ok imagine We have a Single dad Namjoon and the maknae line as his three kids.

Namjoon who divorced his ex because of differences and she took a job abroad leaving the kids on him. Leaving twins Taehyung and Jimin with him Jungkook is his god child?(and he'd already bonded with the little boy as they were neighbours too). Jungkook's parents were his good friends but they died and the others of Jungkook's family didn't want him. Jungkook the shy innocent baby, Taehyung who is the most mischievous but also befriends every one, Jimin who was innocent and caring and sensitive but all of them were still young.

And we have the you. A someone enjoying her single life and career. But you love cooking Maybe cause you came from a big family so when you learned cooking it was in big batches. And so you continued making large portions and putting them into a separate freezer unit you bought on sale so you can reheat and eat it and not have to think about meals throughout the week.

So whenever you has extra left over you give it to neighbours. (Feed thy neighbours)

And you meet Namjoon newly shifted because he got a good job and the area is a good neighbourhood.

The three 'munchkins' as you call them are so cute so whenever they request for something you include that for next time (even though the kids have some questionable suggestionslike chips in rice) . The kids have interesting ideas. It's also fun to feed them different cuisines. Sometimes they even help you and it feels nice to make dumplings together even if they are funny shapes sometimes.

One day when he's busy you even go to the kid's school because someone was bullying Jungkook. Jungkook hugs you and even calls you mom and your heart softens for the boy. (You decide to teach him self defense too later.)

So when Namjoon gets a promotion. He goes to buy his kids toys for Christmas. Buys good card stock paper and writes you a letter (probablythe sweetest one you've ever recieved). Thanking you cause he had been struggling making dinner and ordering out was unhealthy. Many times youe meals saved his day. He puts in some cash in an envelope and gives it to you next time you come. A little Christmas gift. Because you were sent to him as a blessing from the universe.

You didn't have to.

I wanted to. You were the first one I wanted to tell.

Yes you enjoyed a single life but you could understand why someone would dedicate themselves to kids too.

Like When Taehyung came from school after you taught him math and hugged you. Or when Jimin saved most if not all his pocket money to buy you a beautiful dinner set. Or when shy Jungkook came after school religiously helping you prep ingredients and learned how to cook your comfort meal (because you got sick one day and wanted your comfort meal) and your favourite meal (to surprise you for your birthday) .It nice to go on picnics with them or camping with them. It was nice when you felt to drowsy to move by the campfire. Namjoon put a shawl on you so you don't catch a cold. Or when Namjoon 'rescued' you from a date and treated you to cheesy fries after.

So yeah that's it.

“New Women” and Stoker’s Theatre Job

Given Bram’s “New Woman” rant at the end of Mina’s 10 August diary entry, now seems like a good time to discuss two of the great actresses of the Fin de Siècle stage! First of all, we have Ellen Terry -- onstage partner to (you guessed it) our pal Henry Irving, and probably most widely recognizable in this John Singer Sargent painting of her as Lady Macbeth.

While the beetle-wing green dress deserved to be immortalized in all its stately glory, the tone of the portrait is actually very different from that of Terry’s Lady M -- she never crowned herself onstage, and the character was played with a much more “fragile” brand of late-Victorian femininity. Despite a scandalous private life (including two children born out of wedlock, gasp!) Terry’s public persona was aligned with a series of “virtuous” Shakespeare heroines (Ophelia, Cordelia, Desdemona, Portia, Beatrice, Imogen).

In 1878, when Henry Irving became manager of the Lyceum theatre (where Bram Stoker soon became business manager), he convinced Ellen Terry to join the company as his leading lady. Both actors were separated from their spouses (Terry from her second husband) at this point, so their partnership publicly mirrored that of earlier husband-wife leading pairs. At least officially, Irving dictated the company’s artistic choices, the casting, and Terry’s (record breaking) salary, and onstage, Lady M may have been evil, but she was also Macbeth’s perfectly loyal wife.

Ellen Terry’s Imogen (see the colorized edit of a publicity photograph above), opposite Henry Irving’s villainous Iachimo in 1896 is regarded by some as a key inspiration for Lucy Westenra (interesting article/abstract here and book chapter/summary here, apologies for the paywalls). Given that Iachimo creeps on Imogen while she’s asleep and then uses this encounter to threaten her life / accuse her of promiscuity, there are certainly some parallels to be had if you go looking for them.

Interestingly enough, however, when Stoker produced a staged reading of Dracula at the Lyceum in 1897 (in order to claim copyright over any future stage adaptation), Ellen Terry’s daughter, Edith Craig, played Mina. And Edith was very definitely a card-carrying, suffrage-supporting, queer and polyamorous New Woman. Fun fact: in the post-Lyceum phase of her career, Ellen Terry was actually a pretty active suffrage campaigner / fundraiser too. (And I suspect, if we were to carry Mina and Lucy forward to their hypothetical Dracula-free, untouched by Bram Stoker’s authorial misogyny futures, both of our heroines eventually would be too).

While we’re on the subject of the scandalous New Woman, however, the other late Victorian actress I cannot go without mentioning is the French sensation Sarah Bernhardt (who by the time Dracula was published had a substantial performance history in England and the US as well). A rough contemporary of Ellen Terry, Bernhardt, by contrast, cultivated her own reputation for the scandalous. Bernhardt quite intentionally broke gendered boundaries left right and center.

Visually, Bernhardt is perhaps most strongly associated with the art nouveau posters she commissioned (from artist Alphonse Mucha) for her theatre company in Paris - examples of 1899′s Hamlet and La Tosca are above. While there are also plenty of photographs of her as Hamlet (although far from the first woman to play the role, Bernhardt’s performance is one of the most famous) and in other promotional images, the photo I’d rather draw your attention to is this one:

Yes, that is a young Sarah Bernhardt lying asleep in a coffin -- a coffin which she is said to have traveled with and claimed to sleep in regularly. Quite the publicity stunt (and pre-Dracula too)! Other features of her eccentric public persona included traveling with a menagerie of wild animals -- including an alligator, at least one variety of big cat, and a number of lizards and/or chameleons.

Bernhardt was also a sculptor, and her Self-Portrait as a Chimera (circa 1880, below) notably features bat-like wings, instead of more traditionally feathered, bird-like ones.

Which is to say, I think we’ve found another vampire!

I played and finished Slay the Princess last night while I was puppy sitting. I had such a great time. She’s my scary wife now.

Spoilers + more detailed thoughts below the cut, but without spoilers:

I’ve always loved Nicole Goodnight from her first appearances on Nosleep. she did so excellent as the Princess.

Very impressive scope, even with the very definitive ending I got, I came away from the game feeling like there were still paths I hadn’t seen.

Just as a general tone setter, I love the opening card/disclaimer that ends with “This Is A Love Story.”

GREAT visual style and art. I’ll get into this in my breakdown below, but with my amateur eye I love how they took a non-traditional approach to way the images/characters are displayed in a renpy game

INCREDIBLE music.

Hard to avoid Disco Elysium comparisons with the aspects of the Self mechanic, which I’m sure is either a received as a high compliment or is a source of annoyance for the devs, lol

Highly recommend it for OELVN fans, horror fans, and lesbians.

First and foremost, I’m genuinely very impressed at the amount of variety to the paths.

On my first playthrough, I got on a loop where I kept the princess locked up, and then she came upstairs and killed me. The next loop, The Paranoid showed up, and when we went into the basement, it was all spooky and distorted. In this one, we had some great banter with The Princess before I ultimately decided to slay her, and trapped me in the basement by warping reality and removing the stairs, forcing me to kill myself to escape that loop. The Cold showed up in chapter 3, and I think that was when I tried to leave the woods.

In subsequent loops, even when choosing all the choices I made to the best of my memory, I couldn’t recreate that first loop at all. It really speaks to the scope of the game in an impressive way.

The first vessel I managed to provide was The Tower. (It was the outcome of being mauled on your first encounter with her, then perceiving her as a dominating, inevitable force.) After discovering my new objective, the endings I saw were The Prisoner (It’s the ending where you just wait for the cell to rot away around you), The Razor (GOATED route, I will be calling her ‘Knife Wife,’), The Damsel, and ended with The Adversary (devil horns), before reaching Awakening.

These are the only routes I can talk about, but I’m certain there were at least 2 I missed/didn’t get to see. It’s an EXTREMELY impressive scope, and fully voiced, to boot, so my hat is off to the devs on that front.

(The next few paragraphs are about the voice acting, if you want my story thoughts, I made a small heading for that bc my VA thoughts got a bit out of hand lol)

Voice Acting

While I’m on the subject of the game being fully voiced: Nicole’s voice acting really shines here, and it’s absolutely essential to making this game what it was. I think a version of this game without it would be very Good, but not nearly as Haunting. The sheer variety of reads on certain lines based on how you first approach the princess is incredibly impressive, as well. (Again— scope!!!)

As far as the narrator VO goes, i can’t deny that Jonathan did a great job, and with his history of being the main narrator for The Magnus Archives, he was a good fit for the tone and audience of the game. I would even posit that, even if there were other people who were considered in the early phases of development, the cross-promotional potential of drawing in even a small section of an audience already primed for cosmic, reality-altering horror via TMA was a very smart business decision, and I applaud them for it. That being said, I think one unintended side effect of his casting may be that people familiar with his TMA character (a…semi-reliable narrator) might immediately come in primed with doubts about the Narrator. They seem to have anticipated this, though, and included skeptical and suspicious dialogue choices with him right off the bat in the first chapter, which is fun.

(A brief aside: If it seems like I am being very measured with my thoughts on the Narrator, it is not because I have anything negative to say about his performance. I am being measured simply because the narrative devices the game employs makes it impossible to not draw comparisons to Big Hitters like The Stanley Parable and Disco Elysium— both incredible games that I personally would be both delighted and terrified to be brought up when discussing a game I created or a role I was playing.

These games did not Create the idea of “a narrator you interact with and who is sometimes rude to you” or “multiple voices with distinct Traits butting in on your current predicament,” but both games are incredibly prolific in how implemented those devices and the vocal performances involved….so it is not a fair comparison.)

Story Thoughts

The subtitle for this section could also be “Faron ranks how hot they find all of the versions of The Princess.” jk.

I am not going to do summaries here I’m just going to assume most people reading this have played the game.

But let’s start again with the sentence at the beginning of the game: “This is a love story.”

Not long ago, there was a big discussion on tumblr about the statement that horror is “about love”, (it might have even been spurred on by TMA, lol) and that lead to a lot of justified (but not always kind) posts from my fellow horror fans being annoyed by that take. I’ll spare you a rehash of all of that. But it is exactly Because of that discourse (and my general gothic preferences) that I like the choice to open with this a whole lot. The phrase “This is a love story,” written in bold, at the end of a disclaimer saying ‘there are no wrong choices, just different paths,’ has an immense power to it. It is a mic drop way to open up a story, as a way to prime the audience to be open to the Princess as more than a monster, and creates the anticipation for a greater relationship to be uncovered between the protagonist and the princess.

It could also be that the phrase hit my brain in a weird way because of Fata Morgana. I don’t think The House in Fata Morgana had a similar line in the actual game— but my roommate who handed me Fata Morgana very specifically told me, “it is a horror game, and it is a tragedy, but at its core, It Is a Love Story.” And that’s always stuck with me. (I digress.)

A Brief Address to Loops and the Popularity of the Looping Narrative

I could sit here all day and talk to you guys about looping metanarrative structure and the different approaches to it, but you’ve probably all played a VN with that before. (If you haven’t, and this is your first time encountering something like this and it blew your mind…Go play Zero Escape: 999. Run, don’t walk.)

I believe very strongly that reviews should be about what a game Is, and how well it accomplished what it aims to be, not about what you wish the game was. But it is an even stronger opinion of mine that loop narratives, especially in visual novels, can sometimes get too bogged down in the details of “why am i in a time loop.”

I am extremely glad that this game (mostly) avoided this, bc it offers an opportunity to say something about the subgenre as a whole.

At the end of the day, looping narratives mainly exist as a metanarrative device in VNs to acknowledge and offer a reason why your character’s behavior (and/or your choices) change. It’s an easy way to create ludonarrative harmony, and to inject some extra drama with little extra effort.

But BECAUSE it’s easy, it can also feel Extremely Overused, and starts to become an expectation.

I won’t go on a soapbox about it, especially because I feel like this game handled it very well, and the looping, metanarrative aspect is suited to the themes and character subject matter of Beings Who Are Concepts, even if they Why doesn’t really satisfy. At the end of the day, this is a love story, and the why matters less than the feelings involved.

Specific Path Thoughts

All versions of the Princess are incredibly strong concepts, and the game is structured in a way that I very much would enjoy seeing how different people’s first loops influence their opinions on her. It’s got IMMENSE “streamability” in that regard.

Someone that encountered The Damsel version of the princess first would have an INCREDIBLY different experience than someone who encountered the Adversary first, which ties very neatly into the subject of the greater love story and can also generate some great post-play discussion.

I think, undoubtedly, the Aspects of the princess that made the biggest impressions on me were The Adversary (demon wife) and The Razor (Knife Wife). Part of this is due to the sheer length of their paths, as both of them take 3+ loops (correct me if I’m wrong) to reach the conclusion of their sections, whereas The Damsel, The Tower, and The Prisoner all only took 2. (See the next section for more on that). Thinking about it, every path was similar in the amount of sheer resources created for them (illustrations, animation), but these two create the illusion of having more than the others simply due to being the longest action sequences and loops in the game.

The Razor has an OUTSTANDING design, and the sequence to slay her would have been an incredible finale in its own right, as we get introduced to EVERY Aspect of ourselves as we die over and over again, even shoving the narrator out of the way so we can just jump to the cabin and fight her again, and the PC reasoning that “if there’s enough of Me, I might be able to overcome her”. For this reason, and because of the big knife skeleton body, I think that the Razor path is more Fun than the Adversary’s.

Flavor-wise, however, I feel like The Adversary is a much stronger character and narrative thread. A princess who doesn’t want to escape— she just wants a good fight. She wants you at your best, and she won’t have any less. That’s exactly the sort of character dynamic that really gets me going. I love single-minded women, and I love a main character who meets them on their level of crazy.

Both of these paths involve the Aspects of Self “The Hunted” and “The Stubborn,” and they are the aspects of the PC that by FAR have the most color to them (besides the lover, who is more of a buffoon.) I think they were my favorites.

That being said, I adored how exhausted the Narrator got during the Damsel path, and I thought there was a very quiet, profound power in the Prisoner version of the Princess. She had an austere, quiet pride to her, tinged with an undeniable sorrow.

I really do appreciate the variety of ways they provide for one to approach your dialogues with the Shifting Mound after every loop. They really create a lot of space for the player to decide how they feel about her. Even if it sort of bothered me that every time there was a choice to tell her you would slay her once it was all over, I appreciate the option being there. (And, again- the sheer amount of dialogue!! Sheesh!)

Lastly, the finale. It was incredible, going through all of the forms, reliving all of the choices you made. But this is the part that the amount of options started to detract from my experience.

Again- I love that they left a lot of space for people to decide how they feel. I like the amount of responses provided, and I get the impression they don’t change the final choice in any way, just the dialogue she says to get to it.

But it bothered me that there was an option to just…opt out of seeing every vessel, either by submitting to her or by killing her. I can’t see a world where anyone playing a finale like this would WANT to cut the big final movement short. It seems silly.

The payoff was worth it, though. It was a beautiful end and one that definitely will stick with me.

(And Obviously I decided to take her hand and remain endless with her! How could I not!)

Mechanical Musings

Note: I am a dabbler in Ren’Py, but I have been a dabbler for over a decade, and I went to college for game design. (You’re allowed to laugh) I’m not GOOD at programming, and I forget the class names for basically everything unless I’m looking at it.

All of this is all to say I am PURELY speculating on how certain parts of the game were accomplished.

UI/Display/Visuals

The choice to omit a typical text box was an objectively correct one for this game, in no small part to how they decided to do the visuals on this game. It kept the game looking clean and drew the eye to the stunning visuals. The right aligned prompt box similarly aided in that respect, and I think that being forced to scroll down to resist during certain tense sequences was a great touch. Makes me wonder if there’s a timed element on those responses.

The choice to eschew using typical talk sprites (outside of The Long Quiet scenes, the sequence with The Damsel, i thiiiiink the confrontation in the basement maze, and the finale) in favor of using scenes/displayed images really aided in the storybook vibes, and the animated loops they had on those images gave the pencil work an amazing kinetic energy for the scenes where the princess is just standing or sitting still. (For the uninitiated- It’s incredibly simple to program animation loops using static images in RPY, but I’m not clear if that the most memory-efficient way to do so; I’m going to assume they did this though)

The menu Ui is what gives it away as Renpy to me, but you know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, lol.

I’m sort of surprised there wasn’t anything like a scene viewer or gallery that unlocked at the end, but I guess that might sort of be immersion breaking.

Gameplay

Just from my hobbyist eye, I can tell there’s a looooott of dialogue flags in this one, where they track previous things you’ve said in the scene. There is absolutely a variable for “Princess hostility,” just based on the fact there’s several like reads of her answering the questions you can ask in chapter one, but since I only did a single run where I didn’t pick up the knife in chapter 1, I can’t be sure if it’s points based or binary “has knife = true.”

My guessssss about how the Aspects are inherited is that it might be a point based system combined with a flag indicating how you died; this would explain how I inherited “the paranoid” in ch2 my first run, but never after that.

I can say with almost complete certainty from the way it completely locked me out of deciding to leave the princess locked up after my choice to leave the woods that there is a true/false variable tracker for each path that stores if you’ve reached the Long Quiet or not, bc no matter what I did I could NOT do that again. Either that or there’s a flag where the narrator will lock you downstairs after seeing that screen once.

There’s also probably some variables tied to your appearance changing in the mirror, but i would need to double check achievements to be sure that text isn’t just set to appear after X vessels being provided.

There’s also a distinct possibility there are different “pools” for the princess’ aspects to be pulled from after each “level” of ascension; this would set it up so that it’s impossible for you to end with an event that is only 1 loop long, and it would be easier to assure story pacing that way.

(Ex: “If Vessels < 2, use Event_Pool_A, Else use Event_Pool_B”, where pool A contains vessels that use less than 2 loops to complete)

All in all, if I ever got the chance to crack the hood open on this, I would. I highly recommend it.
