but once u actually took what felt like hours to process that u might actually be in fucking Genshin Impact-

Nahida came running from, somewhere?? Its kinda just very floaty dreamy in here so, unclear, she’s beaming with a giddy little smile (💘)

It’s… so much more than what her game model could manage.

I mean, you knew that, of course you did, but- to see the tiny goddess smiling in person, her cute chubby arms waving in the air, her cheeks all plump with baby fat from her excited smile, pretty green eyes that sparkle only in the way excited toddlers do-

It was just…wow. 🥺

You can’t help it, her sheer carefree excitement, exactly like a child but you know that she must be really overwhelmed with joy if shes letting herself act like that so blatantly, you feel ur muscles tug gently into a smile, you try to muffle it but ur happiness leaks out anyway

She's panting as she stumbles on short chubby legs to reach you.

After just staring at you with those big green clover eyes for a few seconds, she physically shakes her head to knock herself out of it,

Nahida places her hand over her heart, and bows elegantly, going back to looking at you with a small but bright smile, her voice is kind of quiet, muffled in a soft way, much like her game depiction,

“Hzozn! R'ev yvvm dzrgrmt gl nvvg blf! R wrwm'g gsrmp blf dlfow wvhxvmw fmgro R dzh zg ovzhg z uvd gslfhzmw bvzih low!” *

…Nahida begins to look a little concerned… her eyes get impossibly bigger.

…Oh no.

Nahida had apparently quickly spread the news that you can’t understand them, but luckily it seems like all the characters still know you!

Alhaitham is pretty much a constant by your side, you knew he was vaguely studying linguistics in the akademiya… but that knowledge still didn’t prepare you to be intensely stared at with his diamond pupils for hours. 💀

Then he’d tap your shoulder or something, and you quickly picked up that he wanted you to just try and say something.

Then he would scribble for hours.

Turns out they can understand you about as much as you understand Teyvat language (s? You can’t even tell if there are multiple languages, that’s how unrecognizable this language is, damn)

The more extroverted or friendly people, like Venti, Yoimiya, Kazuha, Jean, Noelle, Amber, Xingqiu, Hu Tao, Zhongli, Ganyu, Barbara, Beidou, Collei, Ayaka, Gorou, Nilou

At least attempt to talk to you, and try very hard to watch what you gesture with your hands or body language

They're pretty much ready to play charades at all times for you lol

Interestingly enough, they only ever understood you when you typed in the chat (with other ppl)

But even then not immediately, 

Sumeru scholars basically had to make a whole new department (regardless of how much you play with others) to decipher your ancient language (to them) like those old clay tablets with cuneiform we’re still translating?

Like that, your words appear in elemental magic heavy places (so like that abyss lang. It’ll appear on walls or structures, so like Andrius’ stone colosseum? in Wolvendom gained some of your chat replies inscribed and glowing a rainbow of colors on the top edges of the walls)

Much like the abyss language you see throughout genshin, most Teyvat scholars (across nations/internationally) agreed your language is the oldest form of language known!

It’s like modern languages having roots in older ones, like English with Latin, greek, or German roots, or Sanskrit and the Prakrit for Hindi language today

…so of course no one really speaks the root languages anymore, because they’re so old, so those ancestors who spoke those languages would have little to no understanding of their modern counterparts…

Occasionally if you turned your mic on for whatever reason there would be a gentle whisper on the winds in Mondstadt of your voice,

or your laugh in the waves washing ashore in Inazuma and Fontaine,

your startled noises or screams from battling bosses mixed with the landslides in the mountains of Liyue

So they know what you sound like, but that doesn’t mean they understood your language :/

Nahida had been hoping that you’re actual physical form being here would help improve the language barrier

But unfortunately, those things remained the same, but at least you were physically here to talk to now and give more content for the scholars to study rather than them having to make do with your snippets of language from chats

…so needless to say, it took you a long time to realize they viewed you as a god of sorts.

You kind of knew something was up when at least two allogenes were by your sides at all times, or eremites would replace them if they really couldn’t stick around

You figured they knew you weren’t nearly as combatant-ready as they were at all times, hell you obviously didn’t have a vision hanging off you somewhere, and you only really had a knife strapped to a belt, courtesy of the Thirty Corps

You are still kind of convinced that the people of Teyvat, or Sumeru at least, are just pretty polite (and in the allogenes case, very kind or friendly, even people like Alhaitham or Cyno, resting bitch faces they have, seem to soften a little when they’re walking around with you… maybe you’re just imagining it…)

And as much as you would love to wait until they understand you to do something more fun, as you can see the frustration on Tighnari’s face (and his ears try to flatten back hehe) as he looked like he was debating heatedly with some of the Sumeru sages who insist you stay in the city

…so why not go?

It’s not like they’re going to get it anytime soon, and it’s still too frustrating for yourself to charade things or draw things for them because you can’t even hear their guesses 💀

You can totally handle being like the traveler too, 

You still have access to your inventory afterall! Plus, lucky for you, you still find a pass for the Serenitea Pot in your little pocket dimension!

So now you have somewhere to sleep at night, and while most of your stuff went to the traveler’s pack, the things like Primogems

(which.. Okay now you really want primogems bc theyre so pretty and shiny irl)✨️

And other high-level things, or just objects of no use for the traveler (so basically all your hoarded level up stuff and infinite amount of weapons lol) came along with you

So you did have to wander the first week or so around the city and even commission the Adventurer’s Guild to grab you food supplies to cook with

Filling up, along with a few big waterskins, you’re off!

...and everyone collectively has a heart attack!

When you show up in Ghandaraville essentially all “✨️💖☺️✨️” on Tighnari’s doorstep-

He chokes on the tea he’d been sipping on before he opened the door lol

He looks a little frazzled so you try to just gesture with “calm yourself small animal” energy with your hands

“Tivzgvhg Oliw! R'n- R- sld wrw blf-?! Mvevinrmw, xlnv rm, xlnv rm, ivhg! ...R mvvw gl hvmw z nroorlm ovggvih mld gl ylgs gsv vmgriv xrgb lu Hfnvif, gsv Zxgrmt Tizmw Hztv, zmw gsv Nzgiz nlhg orpvob…” he began out looking at you and talking and gesturing to his small dining table (the game sucks, his house looks great and has lots of cool rooms filled with interesting plants… oooo…so pretty...) 

But then he kinda just devolved into rambling, no need to understand, you can read the vibes and just know that's what he's doing lol

Collei eventually ducks in, and she looks a little panicked?

She’s quickly followed by Cyno, pushing past her to call out into the house,

His voice seems hard and stressed, looking at Tighnari, “Grtsmzir, szev blf hvvm gsv Tivzgvhg Oliw zmbdsviv, gsvb dviv hvvm xlnrmt gl Tszmwziezeroov ozhg-” 

Cyno stops and blinks.

Collei’s mouth is slightly dropped open, she also just, blinks.

You blink. 

Tighnari blinks tiredly, he looks like he’d rather be done for the day, you think.

The doctor sighs, and moves his head to nod towards the other dining seats.

Sumeru foods are so much better looking in real life, and they’re so good too, your practically bloated by the end of dinner, 

As a thank you, bc u cant say it obv, you just gesture for Tighnari to stay sitting, and he gives you a raised eyebrow and a suspicious ear twitch

But stays still, and you reach out to finally hit the eight-pointed star hovering over his, and all playable characters chests at all times.

Like you suspected, it brings up a holographic character menu, but rather than his full model, it kind of hovers in front of Tighnari’s face, replacing his old 3D model self with framing the real thing for a portrait just in front of his face

The poor Denro user nearly jumps a foot out of his chair as he looks in shock at your screen, you do the same “chillll boy” gesture with your hands and press his shoulders for a second to remind him to not run off or panic

Cyno and Collei had done the dishes and put up leftovers, and are now standing behind Tighnari, watching with equally wide eyes,

“...Dszg ziv gsvb wlrmt gl blf?

Cyno’s voice is even deeper and quieter than usual, you feel goosebumps run up your spine

“Ziv blf tvggrmt yovhhvw, Nzhgvi Grtsmzir?!” Collei’s sweet voice is also hushed like she’s witnessing something sacred, Tighnari gently shakes his head negatively in response, his shoulders shrugging,

“Nzbyv? R uvvo... z orggov hgilmtvi, zmw nb Erhrlm rh zxgrmt fk zh dvoo…”

Though he’s replying, Tighnari’s eyes haven’t once left your ancient magic? technology device? hovering in front of him,

and as he crosses his arms and squints to try and look closer at everything floating in front of him, you can see the childlike gleam of awe in his green eyes, (so cute) in fact, now that you glance up and look, both Collei and Cyno have the same quietly excited and fascinated sparkle in their eyes too

With a displeased sneer, you chuck his old level one bow into the material grinding spots, hope he wasn’t attached to that…

Oh well, he’ll like the new one better, afterall, with no characters, all your best weapons and artifacts are ready to use!

With a small smile of reassurance, you finally finish gearing Tighnari up, tap a miniature version of that 8-point star in the corner like an “X” button, and it retreats like a classic TV set📺 turning off into his chest, he startles but then carefully stands

You decide to just start making decisions bc its worked out so far ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And grab his hand and haul him out into the forest, Collei letting out a surprised squeak, her and Cyno hurrying after

You reach the nearest clearing, and gesture at Tighnari like a bow and arrow firing, he gets it, and your glad he already trusts you, because he doesn’t take long to summon his bow

He takes aim at a smaller tree about two cars length away

You can feel them all holding their breathe, as Tighnari charges it with Dendro, the arrowhead glowing, (it looks so cool and badass irl god you feel envious even tho ur already here-)

The ranger lets it fly, it streaks neon green, whistling through the air, it hits the tree-

and it fucking explodes.

Vines and leaves and the trees roots all rapidly swell like theyre filled with water, like it literally got hit by a superhero with plant powers, which, not that far off actually.

The green floating Dendro seeds make a ring around the tree its so full of elemental energy-

You give a wild grin, you still got it, hell yeah. >:)

Your grin widens as you look over at Tighnari, Collei, and Cyno

Cyno has a smirk lighting up his face, eyes eager, Collei’s jaw has dropped and she’s just frozen staring as the tree finally settles from the burst of the dendro powered arrow

…Tighnari has lowered his bow, and his mouth is only slightly open, his ears perked straight up into the air, shaking with excitement? Happiness? Interest? You don’t know how peopl-animal-hybrid ears work,

and you STILL cant talk to any of them to ask what they thought, so looks will have to do >:/

Tighnari is the first to move, his head snapping over to look at you, the brightest, kinda feral tbh, smile taking over his face-

“Blf pmld, dv xzm'g fmwvihgzmw blf, zmw blf fh, bvg R xzm'g dzrg gl hvv dszg rm gsv dliow blf'iv tlrmt gl wl mvcg. Blf'iv znzarmt."

… and you just 🙂? Cool!

Alhaitham was literally running around Sumeru City trying to find you when you left, tho you did try and leave a translatable-in-3-to-5-business days-note, he didn’t have time to translate that because you were gone.

Or worse, lost in the city, and he would never forgive himself if he lost you, esp as Acting Grand Sage-

Kaveh got a letter a day and a half later from Tighnari letting them know you were having a sleepover in Ghandarvaville lol

Kaveh also had to hunt down Alhaitham to give him said news, then force his roommate to go sit or lay down for the rest of the day to recover lmao

(Haitham honestly kinda freaked Kaveh out bc he’s never seen him that... desperate, it was like seeing a statue emote lol)

I wrote a small proof of concept for an idea I had last week because @anxiously-scared gave me motivation lmao. If I were to actually finish this, there'd definitely be scenes where the reader (who I've named Astral, because having to type "Y/N" makes me mad) would meet each of the characters in their party and have them join in on their adventure to...I don't know. Something. I have a few ideas, but nothing fully formed.

Offerings From the Archons

Concept: SAGAU where the Creator can utilize a vision from any character as long as they're holding it.

The group walked down the path towards Liyue Harbor, eager to take the opportunity to rest and restock on supplies. But as they neared the outpost near Wangshu Inn, they were stopped by a few members of the Millelith, who eyed Astral with a dirty look.

“We have direct orders to arrest the one who dares to deceive by using our Beloved Creator’s face.” One of them says sternly, with a gruff voice.

“...Creator?” Astral begins to ask under their breath. Bennett looks at them with a confused look.

“I mean…I think I can see it?” He says, but he isn’t exactly convinced. Chongyun chimes in as well.

“I'm afraid you have the wrong person.” While he usually stays out of this type of conversation, he believed it was truly just a mistake, and that once they had realized that, they’d back down. But the soldiers were stubborn.

"We're taking them into our custody. The rest of you are free to go." One of the soldiers grabs their arm.

"Let go, I can walk by myself-" Astral pulls away a bit, and the soldier smacks her. Fischl summons her bow, and as soon as Bennett sees this, he summons his sword. Chongyun steps forward.

"But they're not doing anything wrong-"

"Don't get involved, any of you. I don't care who you think they are, they're not-"

"How dare you show such impertinency towards the Prinzessin's honorable entourage-!"

"Mein Fraulein, perhaps we should take a different approach..."

Everyone seemed to be talking all at once, when a voice rose above the noise.

"Hold on, all of you. What do you mean, Creator?" Silence falls over the area, and Astral pulls their arm from the soldier's grip. A few moments pass, and a few odd looks are given to Astral.

"This is ridiculous, I'm not falling for your tricks-" The soldier readies his polearm, and Noelle summons her greatsword in turn.

"Please, let's try to avoid resorting to violence. Perhaps we can come to some sort of agreement-" The other soldiers stepped into a fighting position and Noelle sighs before pulling Astral back behind them all. She gets into a defensive position and the rest follow suit.

As the team only came together because of Astral, it only makes sense that they'd be protective of them. But, as a side effect of being brought together by a stranger who was only isekai'd into Teyvat a few weeks ago, the group hasn't had time to learn how they work together best, and while the group was made up of mostly vision holders, they were also just teens, so they were eventually overpowered by the many guards.

Things started to get dicey, and Chongyun suddenly noticed that he couldn't summon any cryo energy. Astral notices his vision on the ground, having been cut off his waist in the fray, and runs to grab it, intending on tossing it back to him. But one of the soldiers takes Chongyun’s hesitation as an opportunity, and gets a hit in on Chongyun. Astral calls out to him, his vision in hand.

However, right as they move to toss it, the guard switches targets and tackles Astral to the ground, holding his blade at their throat.

"I'd slit your throat right here if the Liyue Qixing didn't want to have their way with you..." The soldier hisses. The rest of the party is held back by the other Millelith, and Astral seems to be on their own.

"I don't understand..." In their time before Teyvat, playing Genshin, not once does a 'Divine Creator' show up in any lore or flavor text, "What Cr-"

They're cut off by the soldier yelling out "Blasphemy!" and moving to plunge his polearm into their neck. Suddenly, Astral becomes infused with frigid cryo energy, what was going to be her last breath escapes her, leaving a puff of fog hanging in the air. The soldier hesitates, and in that moment, three glowing blades of ice crash downward upon him.

A moment passes before the Millelith back away. The rest of the party runs over, and Astral pushes the wounded soldier off of them. He too retreats.

Chongyun stares, a thousand thoughts running through his mind. How did they manipulate that amount of cryo energy? How did they know the same technique that took him most of his life to even learn?

“-ongyun, hey.” He tunes back in, and clumsily catches his vision, which Astral tossed to him. The action shocks him from his thoughts just enough to get one question into words.

“What…just happened? That was- that was-” He pauses to take a breath, and Bennett speaks instead.

“Amazing!” He laughs, punching them on the arm, “How did you do that?”

“I’m…not sure. But that was your…” Astral struggles not to say ‘elemental burst’, knowing none of them would understand the exact terminology, “...exorcism stuff. Apologies, I’m not sure exactly what it’s called.”

“That skill’s used for exorcism, but specifically it’s a skill utilizing thaumaturgy-” He stops explaining in favor of echoing Bennett’s question with a more serious, more confused inflection, “How…did you do that? That skill took me years of training to master-”

“I don’t know! It just…happened. I don’t have a vision, I can’t manipulate elemental energy, I can’t even fight-”

“My vision…you were holding it, weren’t you?” He asks.

“Perhaps our esteemed exorcist had…temporarily lent you his ability to conjure the gelid energy bestowed upon him by the archons.” Fischl proposes. Oz all-too-eager to simplify, explains.

“Mein Fraulein means to say that Astral somehow used Chongyun’s vision themself.”

“B-but, that’s simply not possible.” Noelle objects, “No person can…use another’s vision.”

“Even then, how did I conjure the cryo energy needed for the skill in the first place?” Astral says, deep in thought. They know it’s happened before with Kazuha in the Inazuma quests, but that was with a dead vision and was purely through passion alone. They hadn’t been particularly passionate as they nearly died, perhaps terrified, but not exactly passionate or emotional. The event makes their head hurt.

“Well, whatever happened, maybe we should focus more on the fact that we were attacked by the Millelith.” Bennett mentions, “Aren’t they the people that protect Liyue?” Chongyun nods, finding the change in subject a bit hard to follow along with, his mind still spinning over what Astral had managed to do.

“You’re right. They thought that you looked like the Divine Creator of Teyvat. And, while I can see the similarities, I don’t understand why they wanted to arrest you over it.” He hums, considering their reasoning.

The rest of the group is completely confounded by the notion. For them, from the moment they were able to understand, they’ve been told of this divine figure, the Archon of Archons. The one divine figure that hadn’t taken a physical form ever, but still has physical representations across the land.

“...ever?” Chongyun asks.

“Well, add that to the list of things I don’t understand about you.” Bennett says, “From finding you unconscious in Windrise, to you already knowing my name, to you being able to use someone’s vision, and now this?” Chongyun, Noelle, Fischl, and Oz all look at Bennett with varying degrees of confusion.

“And you’re only mentioning this now?” Chongyun sighs, considering what he’s just learned.

“Unconscious in Windrise? What happened?” Noelle frets a bit over Astral’s health, stepping towards them.

“And how, pray tell, did you know Bennett’s name prior to meeting him?” Fischl asks. Meanwhile, Astral was only getting more nervous. They weren’t sure if their party was going to take the truth well, or the fact that the truth still doesn’t answer all of their questions. Besides, it would be quite the long conversation, and perhaps having it right outside of Liyue Harbor wasn’t the best idea considering what happened moments prior.

“We should probably have this conversation a bit farther away from the inn…”

Diluc Ragnvindr is a Fucking Menace

(A fight style analysis for @moonilit )

Do you see this man? Do you SEE him???? THIS MAN HAS 3 FUCKING FIGHT SCENES IN THE PROLOGUE ALONE.

And you know what I’ve gathered from this?

1. He’s a menace to society and needs to remember that fire kills people

His burst is a giant fuck-you phoenix flying directly across the battlefield. Diluc. Diluc do you THINK???? That is SO much collateral damage! That’s SO FUCKING DANGEROUS!

This supports my own personal theory that he’s totally not used to fighting near… Well, people. And residential buildings. And… Things in general.

He’s used to being hunted through the snowy wastes of Snezhnaya by the Fatui and their harbingers. That is not a place where you’re thinking of collateral damage! That’s just survival!

Even though there are other characters with huge bursts, they usually don’t share the intent of clearing a battlefield. Diluc’s burst pushes you back. It’s unusual! It’s utilitarian! It’s specifically meant to compensate for being outnumbered or overpowered.

This whole “utilitarian use of elements to push mobs of enemies away from you” thing reminds me of a certain…. Someone.

(Which is incredibly fitting for an early game player. You’re likely to get these two characters during the part of the game where you’re constantly overwhelmed by even basic enemies.)

2. Sick hops

Speaking of being outnumbered and overpowered, this guy can hop 20 feet in the air, do a sick flip, and land in running form approximately 4 times per fight. Incredibly anime of him I must say.

Usually a guy relying on pure firepower and brute strength wouldn’t be so acrobatic. But yet again, I look at his coming-of-age murder crusade and I go “yeah that checks out.” He was running away and trying not to get skewered for like two years.

He seems especially well versed in ice, because in the next scene, he’s encased in ice and melts himself out in seconds.

Isn’t that adorable? Kaeya gets the fire trauma and Diluc gets the ice trauma!

3. Former Cavalry(?) Captain

His normal, charged, and skill attacks seem to be closer to what he just learned. He swings are heavy and brutal. Exactly when you’d expect from a local anime vigilante.

IF HE WASN’T SUPPOSED TO BE THE FORMER CAVALRY CAPTAIN!

You can’t use a fucking GREATSWORD on a fucking HORSE. It makes even less sense than Kaeya. I cannot see Diluc “You killed my father, prepare to die” Ragnvindr learning to use a bow or a polearm as a kid either. He would fucking break them. Like Noelle.

I wanna see that interaction

But this leads into my theory that “Cavalry Captain” is legitimately just a front for the position of “Spymaster.” It would make a lot of sense actually. Only deeply trusted individuals, highly skilled in intelligence work with significant connections, seem to get the title. And why is it that two Cavalry Captains were chosen, or at least, were likely to be chosen, as the third in command? That’s so specific and weird.

Diluc likely never needed to learn in-depth cavalry techniques to become Cavalry Captain. That wasn’t his job. Therefore, he is not a bow or polearm user, and he appears to work best in melee combat.

In Conclusion:

Diluc Ragnvindr is used to fighting for his own life in the snowy wasteland, not working around collateral damage and moral quandaries about vigilantism.

I've noticed something recently- that a lot about Fontaine parallels with Mondstadt. Of course I'm not just talking about the fact they're both based on Europe, I'm well aware of that, but it's the characters that I'm looking at. The Fontaine characters feel a little like they're redone Mondstadt characters- when simplified into dot points, I can often hardly tell who I'm talking about. Watch.

Your more of a perceptive type, than the 'he had the face of the beloved creator, kill him' type of acolyte

When you first met the so called imposter, you help him hide when the acolytes(that hunted Venti) asking you about his whereabouts.

You literally just said you never saw him and you didn't even know there was an imposter running around.

Which they believe since your the creator's second favorite.

You don't mind being a second favorite or even the least favorite acolyte.

As long as the creator cares for you/teyvat, you don't mind at all.

Your just happy that he still cares for teyvat.

Even if he left them for thousands of years.

You know that Barbartos or Aiolos in his human name is the creator favorite acolyte.

He always used him as his vessel

Which he brags a lot to the other acolytes

Which some of them(especially Raiden and Zhongli) gets jealous

Aiolos was the first one to found Venti the 'creator's imposter'

While he changed your artifacts and weapon to the strongest.

And the other characters that help him, (which are the starter team with noelle, benny's adventure, Klee, Qiqi, Diona and Sayu) he changed their artifacts and weapons to the best ones that he take off from the other characters.

You were a bit surprised that you suddenly felt a little stronger than you were before, same goes to the other's that help Venti.

While the sinners felt so weaker than ever

Aiolos can't even kill a hilichurl with one charge shot, which was a surprise to him.

He always can one charge shot those hilichurls.

Realization struck at him, that he is no longer the favorite acolyte

He doesn't even have his signature bow with him

It was replace to a hunters bow

He thought that maybe because he didn't bring justice to their dear creator about the imposter, that's why he is no longer favored.

So he was more motivated than ever to hunt the imposter down.

Same goes to the other acolytes (sinners)

You look back at Venti who just smiled at you saying 'thank you so much for helping me'

You just smile and nodded, as you now think on what place is more safer for him to go and hide.

You still don't know that his the true creator though.

Liyue is a no-go, same goes for Inazuma but much worse, Natlan is a literal hell for him to go, especially with all that fire, and Fontaine will be a flood place if the hydro archon found out that the imposter is hiding in her nation, maybe sumeru? Nah you're sure that you can't fight mother nature (read: dendro users) while protecting him, (if the mobs started attacking them, which likely wouldn't with Venti with you)

While you were thinking on what place is safe for Venti to rest and hide, he on the other hand was messing with the game mechanics.

By that mean, he is messing with the acolytes (sinners) by teleporting them to a random places, that could kill them.

Like what he did to Aiolos just now, when he was was looking for him at the dragonspine.

He was suddenly teleported to northern wolf domain, with a growling Andrius behind him.

Zhongli was teleported into Azhdaha's domain, waking up a furious Azhdaha

Same goes to Raiden who was teleported to the golden wolf lord arena

Grats on the premire! If we can ask production questions: how did you guys settle on everyones designs- even the brief ones?

Thank you so much! We're all blown away by all the positivity and encouragement from the fanbase, and so quickly too!

Multiple people designed multiple characters, some creating the entire design while others taking a sketch and adding lines and color. The most important part in all of our designs is that we kept the character designs, silhouettes, and shape language similar enough to make the characters recognizable.

I'm doing to be talking about my ( @ebenrosetaylor 's ) designs for virovirokun, werewire, and plugboy! If you want to hear about the design process for specific characters like Queen, Spamton, Ralsei, etc... Be sure to send an ask about them!

Viroviro-kun!

This was the first design (aside from Noelle) that I really wanted to nail down to make them as iconic as possible. They always gave off the impression of being very 2D and flat, which matched really well in my head to how gingerbread cookies are! From that point I gathered a variety of gingerbread cookie images around my sketchbook (a lot of my sketches are done digitally and transferred to the computer for cleanup. This same process happened for werewire and tasque as well) and gave it gumdrop buttons and frosting around its body. I also saw the potential for christmas tree shapes in its arrows and altered them a bit more.

When I brought it to the computer I wanted to be sure that the colors made it recognizable as virovirokun while also keeping in mind that the colors needed to carry the idea that it's a gingerbread cookie. I chose a brown that felt like it worked well with the rest of the bright and saturated colors and then worked with the rest of the colors in the original palette!

Werewire and plugboy!

I designed werewire before plugboy, knowing that whatever I did for werewire would have to be reflected in the original lil guy. I struggled with this one a bit because FOR SOME REASON I forgot Christmas lights existed. I toyed with the idea of them being suspended by tinsel or ribbons, but it wasn't clear enough in my original sketches. When I finally got to the conclusion of "oh, christmas lights!" i knew I would have to add on more to it. Otherwise, the only difference would be the lights on the wire itself. So I thought about werewolves and how my friend would always draw them with really fluffy necks and I thought a wreathe would be cool too! the ribbon also sells the point pretty well.

I brought werewire over to the computer to color it and kept most of the colors in their original places. I did have to make the wreathe and the ribbon a slightly darker color so that the green wouldnt blend in with the upper arms.

Plugboy is admittedly my least-inspired character design out of any of the designs in the AU. I forgot about them in the first place and didn't get to their design until after I was storyboarding the part where Kris and Susie enter the dark world! I literally remember saying to myself "Ehh let's just slap a bow on em and call it a day." But hey, the original werewire design is much more visually interesting than the original plugboy design, so it works out in the end!
