Maybe it has something to do with their origins, he was a high being after all and humans. Humans are just... humans. Nevertheless from the moment he have met you, he knew he was doomed. Doomed to understand humans. From the moment he get to know more of you, the more he mindset starts to change. Maybe... maybe humans are not as bad a he thought them to be.

Honestly the way different archons in genshin impact have such different interactions with their nation is very interesting to me, especially with how its further expanded in fontaine recently.

The archons who are closest to the way we traditionally (in the west) think of a god (ie. all-powerful and on a completely other level of existence to humans) would probably be Barbatos first, then Rex Lapis.

Barbatos/Venti having churches dedicated to him and not appearing (as far as most are aware) in society for centuries is very similar to how the christian god is seen, as someone worshipped but never directly interacted with on a level beyond the spiritual. Meanwhile Rex Lapis/Zhongli has tons of myths and stories dedicated to him across lands and made appearances for years until his "death". In this way he's somewhat comparable to Greek gods (or even Jesus, to keep the christianity analogy going). He's far more openly entrenched in humanity but still remains separate and "above".

It's more-so with the three other archons we've encountered that our understanding of what gods must be like in teyvat based on Rex Lapis and Barbatos is totally altered with Ei, Furina, and Buer, all three being the "replacement" archon for their respective nations.

Ei, the third archon we meet, takes a direct role in Inazuman government as the Shogun, a totally different approach than the previous two which i find more similar to various rulers claiming divine right of kings. Also, despite not being the original electro archon most dont actually know this because Ei took on the identity of her sister, who died during the calamity. I think Ei taking on her sisters identity definitely helped her maintain her "divine authority" where other archons (buer) failed to maintain it in their nations.

Speaking of Buer/Nahida, you'd think the whole changing the past to everyone except descenders thing would complicate our interpretation of her but it doesnt at all. I think the reason for this is that destroying the previous archon in irmunsul didnt actually change the past. I also dont think the wanderer/scaramouche actually changed the past. I think they just changed peoples memories of it. but anyway. Nahida also takes on a governmental role at the end of sumerus archon quests while still remaining a somewhat holy figure. She was obviously shut out/disregarded following the passing of the previous dendro archon, unlike Ei she wasn't able to maintain her authority. After the archon quest however, her position in government kind of reminds me of the queen of england early in her rule. There was still a democratic governing body in the prime minister and other representatives but she maintains power.

Furina/Focalors also reminds me of the queen of england but at the end of her career instead. Furina appears to be more of a mascot in fontaine than a proper ruling body. It actually seems that the machine and neuvillette hold more authority that she does. Obviously we havent really explored fontaine much yet (its only been out a few days but im loving it) and we've only gotten so much info from the archon quests but as far as i can tell, furina appears to be kind of scrambling to live up to the previous hydro archon who was seemingly so well liked that fontaines people are repenting to this day. (as am i misremembering or did they say the previous archon didnt side with celestia but her people did?? what!?). Its even actively pointed out how people in fontaine do not view their archon to even a similar level as people in other nations (i mean their archon does meet and greets and is very reckless with her accusations but-).

anyways 👍 yes.

TLDR: zhongli + venti = traditional gods ei + nahida (now) = government furina + nahida = queen of england idk also i dont think they actually changed the past, just people interpretation of it. btw whats up with the fontaine profecy and the whole "they sided with celestia" thing??

While you go through the corridors you noticed Al haitham and windbornbard is going to somewhere together, and its not the first time you caught them walking Side by side. Obviously the first is not having unlimited money at his disposal to buy whatever he wanted. Zhongli lives a very elegant lifestyle. He wears outfits created by the adepti, he only takes the finest birds on walks he eats at the finest restaurants and he buys whatever he lays eyes on.

Then there is the fact that “Zhongli” is a permanent human and not a body Morax uses whenever he wants before transforming into another one. It would be funny if he woke up one morning wanting to shapeshift and having to stop himself mid transformation because humans don't normally grow floor length hair or swap genders overnight.

I always imagined Zhongli struggled keeping his Morax knowledge separate from his Zhongli knowledge. Morax knows the day everyone was born in Liyue, Zhongli does not. Morax knows the day each building was built, the day they built a pond in the harbor, he knows every business owner that has ever worked on his land but Zhongli should not.

But the thing about Zhongli I feel like he just learned to work around these problems without changing too much of himself lol. Like he cant buy everything he wants? Just get a wallet or get someone else to buy his things.

Too much knowledge? Great all of Liyue knows him as the all knowledgeable consultant who knows everything but nobody knows where he came from.

Hu Tao mentions that Zhongli knows so much but has no worries so I think he just doesnt care? I think Zhongli just gets to stay the same cause everyone accepts his weirdness.

But seriously I think he struggles with contracts. He doesn't have the same authority to enforce contracts as before but he is still the god of contracts. So I think he has some dissonance in that regard, like he sees someone break a contract and if he were still Rex Lapis he would punish them but Zhongli has no such control. Considering how he worked around those fake archeologists in his first story quest, I think he if still wants to "punish" someone he has to approach the situation very differently.

Its funny to imagine Zhongli sees someone break and contract and chills run down his spine he feels faint but he can't do anything about. But then again Liyuens is pretty particular about contracts, so even if he cannot enforce them there are countless others (the qixing, the millelith, hell even yanfei) who will maintain order in his stead. i think it will work out

Childe .. *cough* cough* .. Ajax would toss his entire family in the tea pot to keep them safe and close to him at all times. He will also use it as a hiding spot when Pantalone confronts him about the money he spends on Zhongli. Other than that he started flirtin with you the moment he first entered the tea pot. This cocky bastard chose the realm to be the beach so he can just float and see the panic in you when you realise how far away from land he got, giving you a cheeky coment after you bring him back to shore. "Missed me that much?". No matter how much of an ass Chile can be his family is a delight, his mom often inviting you to drink some hot chocolate with them. Similar to the healing abilities of the statues of the seven Chile will have a pool of water made by you for him to heal from his battles before going back to his family. While his family lives in the main house the two of uou also have a house of your own, where you and him have your private time.

Il Dottore

While Childe will treat you mostly as what you are, a god, Dottore will mostly treat you like a pet. Asking you to show him the most impresive strenghts and powers, testing your limits only for a kiss or a few headpats in return.His main house basically turns into a bunch of different laboratories, hes like" a surgery room here, my chemical cabinets there, the equipment for my next project will be upstairs ok darling, thank you". He will inform you where every piece of equipment is . . . and you have to remember it, cause he will ask you for it during procedures, and he needs it fast. He may seem cold but the moment he sees one of his assistants talking to you or trying to take notes on you or your abilities that poor soul is going of the edge, that is when you realise why he chose to keep the floating islands realm. He usually eats outside so he can see you while doing so, its kinda like a break for him, also he doesnt want to get his lab dirty, so when you dont see him outside for a while that means he didnt get his break so you will have to drag him out from time to time while he rants about his scientifical process being intrerupted.

Pantalone

I already know one of them rooms is top to bottom filled with all the paperwork and contract that he has, the rest being filled with the most luxurious and expensive items in Teyvat, like one room can cover the costs for one or two jade chambers. He also gets himself an outdoor library up on a small floating island surounded by those gigant sakura trees and the elevator that gets him up there, cause of course he's not gonna climb, after all he is no peasant. If he craves your affection he will demand to sit either on your chest or on the shoulder with your hand covering his lower half like a blanket while he reads his books or paperwork. Unlike Dottore, Pantalone does often take breaks from his work and regular self-care routines. His realm is the inazuma style one simply because it is harder to obtain than the others.

Il Capitano

Behaviour wise Capitano is similar to Childe acknowledging you as a god but still not treating you as a superior, more like an equal. He will try to court you by showing you the benefits both for you and him. Benifits for you will include a loyal loving partner who will always be honest and fair to you. Benifits for him include an imortal lover who cannot be killed by enemies or taken away by another due to you not being able to leave the tea pot. The only people allowed to enter it are the other harbingers except for Childe. While Pantalone or Piero might throw you a compliment or two out of politeness Childe went all out trying to woo you just to get on his superior's nerves. Childe got the fight that he wanted, less of a fight more like a beating, yes Childe got the beating of a lifetime. While Capitano respects most of the harbingers he cannot stand Childe his loud mouth and flirty atitude especially around his lover.

Arlechino

She would 100% try to somehow connect you to her machinery so she would have control over you. She feels that since it's her tea pot everything in it also belongs to her and it should bend at her will, you included. She will bring the unfinished peojects in, mountains upon mountains of scraps. She doesnt even bother to decorate or change the realm, one island that looks relatively clean but every other island is covered in matal. Your relationship wouldnt be very lovey dovey since she rarely shows affection to anything other than her creations. A kiss here and there but only when you do something for her like if you give her food or clean the house but her lab since she forbid everyone to enter it. You get a lot more kisses if you stop other harbingers from entering, lets say one of them got very curious about he project she spoke of so eagerly and sneaked to the door trying to enter only to be picked up by a giant hand and dragged out through a window to face a very displeased Arlechino. She motioned you to lean down so she can give you lots of kisses for protecting her belongings.

Pierro

Lets be honest Pierro loves the fact that you are so much bigger than him. Not because he feels soft but because he gets so excited at the ideea that he is so powerful that he can make gods submit to him. He is another harbinger that spoils you, mostly by making his realm fit you, like the beach realm, where you can lay down your top on the island and you bottom submerged in water. He belives its a much better alternative than the mountains that would poke you if you would ever try to sit or lay down or continuously float in the sumeru or floating island realms. He also makes Pantalone buy a lot of different materials to craft you a giant pillow. I belive he will be the one to care the most about you comfort, Capitano following close on the ideea of making you happy no matter what. He will force all of the fatui under his command to bring him every blueprint from every remarkable chest that they find. His serenita teapot would look extremily clean and spotless: he builds bridges in between the islands and surrounding the main house with tall beautiful flowers from Sumeru, since it never rains or snows in his tea pot he will make so that the rooftop can be opened up for you to look inside and spend time with him even when he's working.

Imagine this: Zhongli as a dragon has mating cycles, right. And during mating season when he's in a rut man needs somewhere to deposit his clutch of eggs and shoot his load so they will grow into dragon babies! Problem is, he literally does not want or frankly, NEED baby dragons flying around but his body disagrees with him

So now that transmasc! Childe is his bf, he gets (guess what) bred every now and then, and because [insert reason], he can't get pregnant but his belly swells with a clutch of eggs whenever Morax gets supremely horny :)

(bonus: dragon eggs are extremely rare in this economy and it's Zhongli's one™ source of steady income in this economy. Oh, and because of adeptus magic childe lactates too no I don't make the rules teehee)

i like dragon zhongli very much but i dont think i ever wrote anything of the sort or ever heard of a version like this where he just needs a place to deposit eggs. like i do see fics / art where he just breeds childe during a mating cycle with the intention of having dragon babies flying around. BUT LIKE THIS VERSION WHERE THIS IS HIS JOB AND HE'S SELLING EGGS. idk its really unique to me /pos i read a lot of zc but i never thought of it like this.

so personally i think, it starts out as a normal relationship. i dont think zhongli would reveal that he's a dragon so soon into any relationship without establishing a bond of trust. and even when he eventually tells childe he still doesnt talk about the egg part. its just a heads up, he doesnt really want to involve childe in it, not much he could do about it as a mortal. it could easily be a hard boundary for him too considering he's trans, possibly dysphoric, might be transitioning etc. but long story short is zhongli would not want to burden childe with it.

when it is the peak of his cycle he just kind of disappears, he has work and childe travels in and out of liyue often. its not that noticible, not like they spend every waking moment together bc that is just not feasible for the type of relationship they have, so he keeps it quiet without much effort.

meanwhile it does take a toll on his body and mind going through all that, going through his cycles in unnatural ways, worrying about the eggs afterwards and so on.

until one cycle he's really caught up in it, he feels it draw near and he should find an excuse to depart from childe at his earliest convenience, possibly realizing this right when they're getting intimate like always. but childe can feel him hold back, trying to suppress an urge, his hands are not only marked golden brown like usual but he swears he can see the gold in it glow and sparkle.

zhongli also feels different, its very different from how gentle and tender he usually is with childe. he still is but its restrained, trying to shove something down and childe certainly feels it. he keeps asking whats wrong but zhongli wants to get it over with before he loses it completely and leave.

childe doesnt want that though, he soothes zhongli and calms him down, reassures him that he can be honest. so zhongli eventually comes clean and explains all that he's been hiding, emphasis on how he does NOT want childe to get involved in it.

but childe wants to. he says he can take it and that its not a problem unless zhongli wants him to birth or look after the children in any way (and thats not what zhongli wants anyways)

but STILL. at this point i thing childe would still see it as a... thing. like its not something to get sentimental over. it's just about zhongli's biology and he doesnt understand it fully but he understands that he can be of help.

and there is no guarantee that it would work so essentially he asks zhongli to try, and he does. but the second he does, childe realizes that he cant really look at it as a matter of simply helping zhongli out. in theory, it is. but in practice he feels so different, he sees a different, primal and feral version of zhongli that was hidden from him all this time.

he spends hours tracing his fingers over his horns and his tail, admiring the pattern on it, falling asleep on it sometimes and zhongli wraps it around him for comfort. and of course the fact that he is literally being bred, not in a way that was not plausible to him before, uttered in the heat of the moment when they made love solely as a fantasy. now that it becomes a reality childe's heart races thinking about it.

even when they're apart zhongli is quite literally still with him, he thinks about the way he growls in his ear before releasing, how zhongli holds him close right after and whispers "mine" before they fall asleep. when he's alone in the dark he finds himself yearning for a pair of yellow, reptilian eyes in the dark and sharp claws around his hips.

and since you mentioned adeptal magic i think zhongli would be capable of creating a seal that makes this whole thing easier, more natural lubrication from his body so he can take it more easily. a mortal body would probably be trashed during this entire process so he would make sure that it doesnt irreversibly damage childe in any way.

and who knows, maybe with that one day they do decide to be parents and actually go through with the whole thing 🤔 they would make wonderful fathers so i would love to see it but anyways this is my 2 cents on the topic 🫡

the role of the fatui in teyvat

is childe evil?

the opinions on this are always split. i dont think it matters whether he's kind to his family or whether he wouldn't hurt innocent people, characters can be multi dimensional and still be evil.

childe is a nice guy, he treats his subordinates respectfully and follows his own orders while still having his own agenda. he says he believes in the tsaritsa's goal, whatever that is, and that he thinks of himself as a weapon. because of this, he lends his strength to her cause while at the same time using those instances as her harbinger to improve in the battlefield.

when shiki taishou asked him if he had an end goal in labyrhinth warriors, he said he didnt. he'll sharpen himself as a weapon for as long as he can, there's no goal mark.

a new star approaches

in liyue he was tasked to lure the geo archon out to get his gnosis. since he couldnt get it peacefully with the initial scheme (exuvia was empty), he had to turn to plan b. this wasnt a last minute desperate trick, because he had to prepare the sigils to awaken osial in the first place. but like he said, he didn't intend to involve innocent people and he tried not to use this plan.

speaking objectively, harming people was not the goal of the whole thing for childe, the threat of harm was. and we know he was supposed to do all this, in accordance to zhongli's own plans. the city was never in actual danger, whatever childe did.

so, in terms of actions, he didnt do shit. the results is he did no evil deeds, and what he thought he did was planned by zhongli. and in terms of intention, he didnt mean to harm the innocents either. he had no intentions and did no actions that cause harm.

so is he evil?

it all relies on hypotheticals with him as a character. could he have done harm? is his awareness that he could have done harm what matters here? does he justify it to himself with the tsaritsa's goal? do the ends the tsaritsa promises justify the means?

the tsaritsa's goal

we dont know what the tsaritsa's plan actually is. if we choose to believe it is noble enough to justify the sacrifices, it's only blind hope. the organization gets down to really shady stuff, they use their soldiers as tools without much care, both the lower ranks and the harbingers themselves: signora's death remains unaddressed, despite her thinking it would cause a diplomatic issue with inazuma, and pulcinella's reaction was pretty tame. arlecchino is the only one who resented it, and they themselves arent a harbinger out of loyalty to the tsaritsa, since childe tells us they would betray her in a minute.

there's harbingers like childe and signora who do speak of the tsaritsa's goal highly, but there's others like scaramouche and arlecchino who were in it exclusively for self gain (the fatui use them as tools in return either way).

evil in teyvat

those who do cause harm purposefully in teyvat are usually motivated either by the pursuit of a form of power (archon war, childe seeking to improve himself, scaramouche attempting to become a god, etc) or by karmic resentment (osial after being defeated, azhdaha who was abandoned, scaramouche taking revenge against the raiden gokaden, dvalin being forgotten by the people of mond, etc).

azhdaha and osial were both imprisoned to prevent the harm they would cause, and zhongli understands their resentment. he treats both as old friends, not as enemies. liyue is filled with gods that zhongli killed, and xiao still has to deal with the resentment that outlives their physical death (and demons he himself carries karma for). but neither the killing or the imprisonment were intended as a moral punishment for those involved, they're measures zhongli took to protect liyue. and he doesnt resent or morally condemn azhdaha or osial.

in sumeru, the dangerous pursuit of knowledge is treated like something inherent in human nature. alhaitham compares them to organisms that live out of light. and cyno says the rules of the akademiya are meant to protect the scholars from themselves.

rather than tied to morals, evil in teyvat seems more of a force of nature that has to be dealt with. but if it's killed, it still remains.

how exactly did the harbingers end in the fatui?

we only know of childe, signora, scaramouche and (allegedly) pierro's origins.

in general terms, they're characters whose nature became incompatible with teyvat.

signora became the crimson witch to destroy monsters that were ravaging the nation, but her own form is dangerous, so people hunt her back. this is a kind of "evil"/harmful force that needed to be either killed or contained for the survival of teyvat's people.

scaramouche was deceived into believing he didnt have a place among humans. when his creator says "hes too fragile as a human and a tool" in HoOD, she means using him like a puppet is too cruel due to his humanity, but he has more value to people as a puppet, so others will end up using him. niwa could have proved otherwise, but alas. either way, scara's nature was pretty much incompatible with humans.

all we can theorize is that pierro is a khaenri'ah survivor, which speaks for itself

but what do u do when you no longer can be a part of the world you live in? where do you hide?

the fatui might be using the harbingers as tools, but they're also sort of containing them as a refuge. in signora's case is much more explicit, since the cryo delusion contains her dangerous form. the power that they have would otherwise run loose in teyvat without a place like this to channel it.

given that the only other solutions are imprisonment or death (or in cases like scara's, emotional pain), do they really have a choice in where they end up?

which brings me to childe

childe cant undo his experience in the abyss. and he carries a part of it within him (not just foul legacy, but the change he went through itself).

of all things in teyvat, the abyss is the only one that cannot coexist with its natural world. it's feared and rejected, the very existence of it is harmful to the continent.

childe's own family put signed him up in the fatui because they could no longer handle him after coming back from the abyss.

childe himself, like the other harbingers, has a nature that is incompatible with the rest of teyvat. and his is in a darker pit because it comes from the abyss itself.

if he wasnt in the fatui, where hes provided enemies to channel his need for battle, could he really exist somewhere else? it's not like he can undo falling into the abyss or its repercussions. he didnt choose it in the first place.

so

on the question, "is childe evil?", the answer most people come to is he isnt, but he does choose to do evil for the fatui.

but regardless of if he actually believes in the tsaritsa's goal, after all this, does he truly have a choice?
