I don’t know a dumb little thought I was daydreaming over
Ellie sitting on the counter. Joel is… cooking? Just chilling in a nearby chair? Leaning against an opposite counter? Washing dishes?
Ellie’s singing. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s an attempt just because she gets excited
Joel tries to suppress his smile while he listens to her sing and do a goofy little sway back and forth of her upper body while she sits on the counter. She’s smiling, trying to get him to join her in singing
She sings songs they’ve found from the early 2000s or from right before the outbreak. Ones Joel remembers from hearing them on the radio
Little talks
Ho hey
Hey there Delilah
Breakeven
Home
Fix you
I will wait
Somebody that I used to know
Wonderwall (Joel’s sick of it)
Those kind of songs
Joel mainly, with the exception of a verse or two that he keeps at a lower volume, stays quiet, just to listen to her. To watch her come back to herself. To see her enjoy the life they have together on some random, mundane Wednesday afternoon. To listen to the way she laughs or forgets a verse or two because what the fuck are they singing about

cryo anon raises a white flag.
“This is the best I could come up with. You win.” - cryo anon
>>>>>
[Sanctuary of Surasthana, Sumeru City]
“You’re insane.”
“You would know all about that now, wouldn’t you, Wanderer?” you shot back.
“You—”
“Language, (name),” Nahida gently chided.
He tsked, arms crossed. “You gods… Are we not good enough for Your Divine Grace or something?”
“On the contrary, you’re too good for me,” you responded, voice even, “and that’s why this is such a problem.” The missive you received earlier that day about a certain blue-haired man weighed heavy in your pocket. “I can’t be the god you want me to be,” you admitted, defeated, “I’ve tried but…”—you shook your head—“it’s too much for me.”
Nahida recalled how powerless she once felt. “I understand,” she responded, “I will look into it.”
“Thank you, Nahida!” You broke into a smile, grateful. Finally, there was hope.
>>>
As soon as you left the Sanctuary, the puppet’s head whipped around to the Archon beside him. “Are you serious?!” he demanded, “That’s Their Grace we’re talking about! The one this whole wretched world was created for! If you erase them…” He trailed off, words caught in his throat.
Nahida could only look at him sadly. She empathised with your plight all too well. “It is what Their Grace’s wishes for…”
OH…………. CRYO YOU EVIL LITTLE GUY……………
mayb you can’t be erased, because you’re so intrinsic to the world. maybe nahida tries, but irmunsul refuses to forget.
…or maybe you can be. maybe the world understands your plight, maybe it works, maybe you return to your world and teyvat forgets it ever had a god at all. maybe your vessels feel a sense of loss they can’t cure or identify, maybe the archons have a hole in their chest, deeper than a gnosis could ever fill. maybe nobody recognizes your statues—or maybe they’re gone entirely, leaving people to wonder if that pedestal has always been empty.
maybe, when you manage to convince yourself it was a hyper-real dream—due to time dilation, maybe it could just be a bad dissociation?—you log back onto genshin.
and maybe your vessels scream, unknowing of the light that fills them. maybe the people panic, wondering what’s suddenly turned some of the most important people to puppets, moving in repetitive motions and using impossibly powerful elemental skills.
and maybe it’s the imposter hunt all over again, but this time they don’t even know what they’re fighting for.
