I guess it took seeing an entire season for me to really get The Chosen, because now that I've seen all of season 1, I'm impressed. I've got issues with the (slow) pacing of individual episodes or about certain character or plot choices, but on a structural level, it's so well-done.
The season starts and ends with episodes focused on a woman who has suffered for years in a life of sin, is rejected by all good society, and is saved when Jesus sees her and calls her to a new life. With Mary Magdalene, He keeps his work secret, and doesn't even tell her His name. With the woman at the well, He tells her straight-out that He's the Messiah, and He wants her to spread the message.
The main season-long character arcs center on two people who are living comfortable lives in authority positions, who are baffled when they see Jesus' miracles, obsessively search for the truth, and are eventually called by Jesus to follow Him. Matthew's story shows how Jesus conflicts with Roman authority, while Nicodemus' shows how He conflicts with Jewish authority. In the end, Matthew instantly leaves His life and follows Jesus without hesitation, while Nicodemus is the one who rejects the call and stays in his comfortable life.
It's there, it's good storytelling, I love it.

Bro could list you off the raunchiest porn titles but can't handle his crush singing lesbian pop anthems at him
(context no one asked for: I'm following my high school AU hcs with genderfluid Butters who's comfy with any pronouns regardless of dress, Kenny gets to be the disaster enby as a treat, he's wearing his princess wig and left his parka behind so he can't hide hehe)

"it's like penguins. penguins, in nature, when one is sick, or when one is very injured, the other penguins surround it and prop it up. they walk around it until that penguin can walk on it's own. that's kind of what the cast did for me." — matthew perry about his fellow friends.

I can't get over Janja viewing himself as this charming ballroom dancer when he's courting his prey... that's so funny?? why does he think like that.

Kion: The circle of life is about respecting other cultures and the lives we take when we play our role. Janja: Respect beautiful zebras?? I have no further questions.
He sees Cheezi and Chungu like this too. Yeah, they're his idiots, but he sees them as sweet and charming too.

I am on a "mildly trashy TV shows that were super popular 20 years ago" kick & i cannot STAND those on again off again romances that seem to plague it (meredith & derek, carrie & big) like it is so exhausting idc if it's realistic it just sucks. I actually hate an exes to lovers again story in any capacity, even if it's only a single breakup & not a terrible tedious series of breakups. I've seen a lot of popular modern romance novels on goodreads with descriptions like "so & so called it off ages ago but now they're on a vacation together with friends and old feelings are stirring back up" I literally can't think of anything more boring. second chance romance is a shit trope. the only interesting part of the genre to me is two characters developing feelings for each other for the first time & seeing how that plays out. just give the characters new love interests & have them wistfully imagine their ex being hit by a bus . much more relatable

rewatching danny phantom and i think part of why i like this show is the complete lack of butch hartmanish family dynamics. the world is....basically kind to danny? i mean, yeah, he gets bullied by other kids, but his parents are well meaning, if clueless, and his sister is genuinely supportive, and even his teacher who is framed as an antagonist a lot of the time genuinely cares about him. hell, his evil arch nemesis wants to adopt him! its a lot easier to stomach as you get older than other kids shows because the adults are genuinely NOT just randomly evil child haters, they just...don't know what's going on.

I think the concept of the werewolf speaks to me more than the concept of vampires. Don't get me wrong: vampires can be fun. Morbius and Dracula and all that can work and be fun. But there's just... something far more relatable about the werewolf. The idea of having two selves, an angry, violent thing lurking inside of you...well, I have some severe anger issues that I only express in private or around my dad. And that alone makes this relatable.
Seriously, that's why I love The Hulk. The Hulk was like a werewolf, since he originally transformed depending on if it was day or night. They ditched that, but the character still holds those core components of werewolfism. The transformation into something violent and bestial, the two selves struggling for control, it just speaks to me on a base level. With my anger issues and my crippling fear of judgement (a fear that leads me to hide my anger issues around anyone except my dad), I can say that I find it all too relatable.

Sometimes, I just wanna reach out to the artist or writers I follow and say:
"dude I swear I still love you work, fucking masterpiece. I haven't interacted because I'm busy and not here mentally and your work deserves 100% of my attention."
Like I swear you're still great, your work is still the best thing ever created. I just feel too down to enjoy it. It's not you, it's me.

Go romanticize your life. Pretend to be an anime protagonist, or some creature, or literally anything you want. What's stopping you? Do what you want with your life. You only have one chance at it, why not make it fun and worth it?
