oh i love this question because i absolutely love thinking about what from our current cultures survived into panem- especially when it relates to appalachia!

district 8 is one i think could potentially have a lot of similarities to 12 depending on where exactly the main part of it is located! looking at it, 8 covers a lot of tennessee and even a small part of kentucky so i’ve wondered a lot what parts of our culture survived into 8 in panem.

just because of where it is and because it’s not brought up (much) regarding district 12- i’ve been nursing this little theory that district 8 might also produce alcohol? which one may think ‘that’s not really part of culture’ but i assure you, it very much is around here.

going off of what we know about district 8 and the fact that their industry is textiles- i have a headcanon that the people there make quilts for loved ones. getting a quilt from someone is such a labor of love and i love the idea of that being a tradition in panem because i know it’s a big thing in appalachian culture.

i think in terms of district 11- there’s definitely similarities in their religious ideology, food, and their values. family is everything in appalachia and i think that’s something that would be a similar value in district 11. also, their loves of music!!! coriolanus really tried to kill that out of d12 but music is super important in appalachian culture.
