I was today years old when I found out that the chapter count on ao3 will take you to the last chapter

when you’ve been so long from some wips that you find yourself having to revisit your own au canon as well as actual canon just to try and mentally dial back into the vibe of it all.

when patients are upset or nervous about their blood being drawn, sometimes i'll say "oh, don't worry, our vampires are extremely good at what they do." generally it works to relieve some tension or at least as a pause in the anxious build-up because it's absurd enough that the brain goes 'panic time? pani- wait what. that isn't in the script. hang on, hang on, stall the panic engines for a sec we need the power to run the logic centers again'. yesterday i said that many times. worked pretty great each time.

however.

towards the end of my shift, patient comes in with two family members. i get them checked in, during which this happens...

me: "What brings you in today?"

patient, brightly: "I need blood!"

me: "Oh, are you feeling a little hungry? We can..."

me, slowly processing those words: "...help........with....that."

patient: "My doctor yelled at me to come in because my blood is apparently lethally low, so-"

patient's family member A: "Did you just ask if she was hungry?"

me, slowly dying inside: "yeah, i- sometimes when people get their labs drawn i'll tell them don't worry, our vampires do excellent work, so i just"

(during this I am putting on their ID wristband and also apparently making inarticulate gestures trying to explain the whole mess)

me: "i am sorry, that was not a professional way of greeting you. please have a seat, the nurse will call you in a bit to finish-"

pt family member B: "do you guys have a cafeteria? Is it still open?"

me: "no, it isn't-"

pt family member B: "or i guess you'd call it a blood bank, right?"

me: "i...we...do have a cafeteria. it's not a cafeteria right now. i mean it is a cafeteria but the kitchen- there's just vending machines. and microwaves. it's down the hall and the second hallway on the right side."

pt family member B: "is there ice cream?"

me: "mayb- no I think there is, actually."

me, internally: you have 38 fucking minutes left of your shift fucking reengage brain and deal with it

while i am checking in the rest of the evening rush i hear the patient greet family member C. family member B comes back at about the same time, gesturing triumphantly with a frozen snickers bar. faintly i hear family member B saying something like "none for you, sorry, no type-B popsicles." family member A and patient start laughing, family member C is clearly taken aback.

family member A: " oh yeah (patient)'s real hungry for bluuuurd, that's why we're here."

patient: "I went up and said i needed blood and she asked if i was hungry, you know, like a vampire."

family member B: "it was great!"

sorry i keep going on about it but “crab day” as a phenomenon still fucking baffles me. the corporate higher ups of automattic weren’t reading your posts about WHY you were doing it and staff was never gonna fuckin enlighten them. they saw you giving them money nigh-unprompted and thought “oh they must like what we’re doing” and just doubled down and kept right on trucking.

you were REWARDING them; at no time in recorded history has being rewarded made a corporation stop and think “oh maybe we should go about this differently they dont like what we’re doing”

Dear Fellow Utena Fans,

I am really ashamed to be part of the Utena fandom here. Seriously, I can't turn around without seeing people saying, "Saionji and Touga's abusive behaviour is because they were in denial that they're gay for each other." That is not funny, nor insightful, nor realistic. I'll tell you what it is, though. It's fucking homophobic! I am sick of it! RGU's appeal is largely due to its themes of queer acceptance, but you people can't even learn from it! You just promote hateful, dated stereotypes, because "Huh-huh, that's funny!"

The terrible ways Saionji and Touga are shown treating people has nothing to do with their sexual orientations, whatever those may or may not be. It's all to do repeating a cycle of abuse they have both fallen victim to. Touga has been sexually abused most of his life (likely by more than one perpetrator). He copes by acting out this sexual abuse on his best friend, attempting to abuse his sister, and his compulsive promiscuity. Touga also manipulates and back-stabs those around him, thinking it makes him superior to others, i.e. no longer a victim. Saionji copes with Touga sexually abusing him and betraying their friendship by lashing out at anyone who angers him. He is particularly abusive to Anthy, as he thinks that as the Rose Bride, she has no feelings. (In fairness, Anthy has also convinced herself she has no feelings, and actively goads him into hurting her, at Akio's behest, to lure Utena into the duels.)

If you ship Touga and Saionji, fine, that's great! Go right ahead. There is certainly a lot of angst/ tearjerker potential there, with them working to rebuild their broken friendship and overcome the horrible trauma they've been through. They're both in need of a lot of healing, which could develop into romantic feelings for each other, as well as a redemption arc. However, claiming they're abusive because they're gay and trying to downplay the abuse they, themselves, suffered, is just a load of bullshit.

This stupid joke/ theory is insulting to not only the queer community, but also abuse survivors. (And yes, I fall into both those groups.) Being gay doesn't make anyone an abuser, nor does being abused by someone of the same gender make a person gay. I shouldn't even have to say that, let alone twice on my blog, but idiots...

Because I'm trying something different for a prompt on my bingo card...

You know, everyone talks about Izzy's loyalty...mostly because it's like 3/4 his personality (the other 4th being bitch), but no one ever discusses Ed's loyalty. Because he's at least passively loyal to Izzy (in unhealthy, destructive, possibly manipulated ways), otherwise ed could have totally chucked him overboard in favor of Stede and made things tons easier.

Of course that loyalty goes utterly tits up once Stede leaves and Ed goes off the cuckoo cliff.
