I just finished reading "I'll See You On The Dark Side of the Moon" and my h/c heart loved it so much. Can I get the director's cut for that?
Also, I saw your tags on an anon post. I am also ace! I didn't think I'd run into any other ace Milex shippers here ❤️
Awww thank you so much! 💖 That story (and the whole Milex Big Bang experience) was very special for me so it always makes my day to hear from readers who enjoyed it!
I technically do have a 'director's cut' ending for this fic 😅 Because it was written and edited over a period of months, it had plenty of time to morph from a traditional psychological horror into a story that was more concerned with Alex and Miles's relationship and Alex's desperation to return home. This meant that by the time I got around to writing the first draft of the last chapter, the ambiguous ending I'd had in mind from day one was starting to rub me the wrong way, especially after the intensity of the events leading up to it. After a lot of internal debate and some feedback from my lovely friend who read the early drafts of each chapter, I eventually settled on a more hopeful conclusion which I still feel was the right decision.
Enough time has passed though that I'm happy to share the original ending for curiosity's sake - the only major changes were in the last few paragraphs of the chapter 😊
A soft thud rudely interrupts such pleasant fantasies.
They break apart, rosy-cheeked and breathless, casting an eye over the bed until the source of their interruption presents itself. Miles’s battered copy of ‘The Restaurant at the End of the Universe’ has slipped from its perch and is now resting precariously against the bedrails, its pages splayed open and threatening to crease beyond repair the instant they hit the floor. Alex rescues it mindlessly - just in time to spare it from slipping through the gap - and brings it closer, recognising the neon imprint of the title from his childhood.
Without really thinking, he flicks through the yellowed pages, glancing at the dense passages for only a moment before throwing the book aside, blinking away the faint stirrings of a headache.
“You okay, love?” Miles asks, seemingly out of the blue, until Alex realises he hasn’t said anything since their untimely separation. He looks over at Miles, basks in his beauty in the sleepy morning light, and can’t quite bring himself to believe that he’s real. That he has chosen to spend the rest of his life with Alex of all people, when he could have anyone he wanted.
“Kiss me again?” he asks, hoping that his desperation for reassurance is not as obvious to Miles’s ears as it is to his own.
“You’re insatiable,” Miles chuckles, but his eyes are warm and his hand cradles Alex’s cheek with a gentleness that makes him want to fall asleep, safe in Miles’s arms. A persistent beep resounds in perfect time with the pulse drumming in his ears, and Miles’s eyes glance in the direction of the snitching monitor.
“The nurses’ll be thinking you’re in trouble.”
‘Oh I am,’ Alex thinks, but he elects not to mention it. Truth be told, he can’t bring himself to care, especially with Miles gazing at him as though he’s just unveiled the secrets of the universe.
It isn’t long before Miles grants his request, kissing him with so much care and love that their surroundings melt into oblivion. Alex finds that this is a rather pleasant state in which to exist, and so he ignores his creeping exhaustion and the slowly awakening aches across his body in favour of letting his mind be consumed by the man he loves more than anything in this world and beyond.
As he loses himself in the sweet taste of Miles’s lips and the pleasant burn of stubble against his cheek, Alex finds that he’s almost capable of forgetting the way Douglas Adams’s words had danced maniacally across the page, defying all attempts at comprehension.
Almost.

Black (stupid) songwriting journal of fate - Part III (Epilogue)
Last round of the Kimi no na wa AU. Happy Juke Jeudi!
Part I / Part II / Part III
A few years later:
Five years have passed since The Orpheum burned down, and Luke has to admit his plan ("Rock The Orpheum then shoot to stardom") didn't quite work out.
After they escaped death spectacularly, they got another shot to play a showcase. It was a successful show, landing them a manager, a real studio, and even a small North America tour.
And this really should have been their breakthrough, except it wasn't.
While his friends all had some accomplishments to show off (Reggie's about to graduate college, Alex is in a stable relationship with Willie, and Bobby has become a single dad), Luke feels like he's stagnating.
Because ever since the Orpheum incident, he's been experiencing a serious case of writer's block. (And he thinks it's ironic that his songwriting journal with the missing page has become a metaphor for his life because that's how he feels -- like a part of his soul has been ripped out.)
Anyway, their label is unsatisfied and threatens to terminate their contract if they don't come up with new music soon.
(Slight detour because this user adores Reggie and wants him to shine: Reggie buys them some time by uploading "Home is where my horse is" to Sunset Curve's official YT, and it goes viral, and Luke is only slightly cranky about it because it stops their label from kicking them out (for now).)
Meanwhile, Julie is equally unsatisfied with her life. She's enrolled in college, and while she's fine singing and playing music in general, she, too, struggles with creating her own brand of music. There's a song stuck in her head.
Random side note: They've both developed inexplicable mannerisms when trying to write: Julie toys with a folded piece of paper (a blank, ripped-out journal page), and Luke absently touches his cheek.
Anyway, both feel like they're missing a part of their soul.
As time grows on, Julie and Luke have a few almost encounters (Luke's visiting Reggie on campus when he catches a familiar piano tune but ultimately being unable to locate where it's coming from. Julie walking past the ruin of The Orpheum, hearing the strum of a guitar, remembering the band that almost died there.)
One day, on the anniversary of their Orpheum performance, Luke's frustration escalates. So he grabs his guitar and his journal and drives to their old studio.
The same night, Julie gives in to an unexplainable magnetism that draws her to her mom's old studio, which she's been mysteriously avoiding for the past three years because every time she walks into the studio, she's overwhelmed by a feeling of loss. (Her dad believes it is related to her mom's death. But Julie's not convinced. This loss feels different.)
She settles behind her mom's piano and starts playing the melody that's been haunting her, and suddenly she's accompanied by a guitar. Julie should be bothered. But for some reason, it's soothing her and gives her inspiration.
Together, they finish the song.
Luke's been up in the loft the entire time, and when he comes out from his hiding place, Julie is not amused. But she cannot help but sense a cosmic connection between them.
Luke explains his backstory with the studio and is surprised (and proud) when Julie tells him she used to listen to their songs back then.
There is a bit of awkwardness because they both feel the bond, but neither has the courage to address the elephant in the room.
There's this usual back-and-forth between them that's solely there to make the reader suffer.
Eventually, Julie asks how Luke knew about the song, and he explains he has no clue. It's the first time in the last five years that he finally felt music again.
Julie says it's the same for her (because they are soulmates and they need to be together in order to be complete), and she starts toying with the paper again.
And, of course, Luke spots it and gets overly excited and shows her his journal and how it is missing a page. And Julie places the page where it supposedly belongs, and the words Luke wrote during their sunset meeting reappear. And so do their memories.
Another hug.
And then, it's Julie who hands Luke the page, and this time Luke kisses her -- not on the cheek.
The end.
Part I / Part II / Part III
Does this qualify as HEA?🙃
Is this ending kinda cheesy? Yes, it is ... AND I LOVE CHEESY JUKE CONTENT! 👻
So, I hope you've been enjoying my rambly posts about this AU. Thank you for all the kind comments in the tags (and the threat of getting blocked). 💜 (It feels like this won't be the last post about it. Fleshing the storyline out just made me more invested in the idea.)
Anyway, I'm gonna watch Suzume no Tojimari (a new movie by Makoto Shinkai -- the director of Kimi no Na wa) next Thursday. So there's a good chance another Jatp-meets-Makoto Shinkai AU will haunt me very soon.

Febsy meets Alex, a mistake that will cost him his life
Tumblr media
@febsy had this profile photo on Recon and received a message from Alex
Alex: Hello there, I like your double jackets and pants, apparently you clearly know the advantage of doubling up on puffy jackets! I'd like to have you over to my dungeon to play. Make your ultimate fantasies come true.
Febsy: I don't know man, I've had some ultimate fantasies I wouldn't want to come true like being turned into a jacket.
Alex: Well I won't tell you which one, I've been following you around on Yahoo Groups til it went down and found you on Twitter and Recon, it's not hard with your social media footprint being the size of a major airport.
Febsy: I really have put out a lot of twisted fantasies that would make some peoples stomachs churn. I don't want one of those happening to me.
Alex: Come on man, do you ever get the offer of having a fantasy become reality, even if it is at random? You're not gonna have this offer again.
Febsy: Right, where abouts are you.
He heard the door to his house open and then felt a puffy arm wrap around his neck. Febsy looked down and around seeing Alex wearing a very shiny PVC coated puffa jacket. Febsy whimpered softly as Alex lifted him by his neck off of the ground laughing saying "I'm right here behind you, you were stupid enough to do one of those post your ID card online things and say you're a loser who wants to be tied up and abused. So I decided I'd just show up and do exactly that." Alex carried Febsy outside as he was choking out slowly. Febsy made desperate gurgling sounds as consciousness became hard to maintain. Alex opened the trunk of his car revealing a massive duffel bag filled with puffy jackets and clothing. He dropped Febsy into the large duffel bag and quickly zipped it shut while Febsy was still weak. Febsy began to awaken more and yelled muffled by all the puffy clothes "What the hell are you doing! Let me out of here! It smells bad in here!"
Alex couldn't hear Febsy, the radio road and engine noise drowning poor Febsy's pleas for fresh air into silence. Febsy was having a vey hard time breathing, the air in the bag was hot thick and stunk strongly of sweaty down. Febsy struggled but doing so only made the jackets and clothing collapse around him, everything was wet with his breath. Febsy wondered if he was going to die or if he was going to make it to this mans destination. The ride was smooth aside from occasional bumps serving only to keep Febsy from falling asleep, probably a good thing considering Febsy was suffocating in the stinky confines.
Tumblr media
Febsy in the warehouse (AI Generated - PirateDiffusion, Original image @febsy)
Febsy awoke fully feeling the bag get dragged into a hot dry room. It was unzipped. Alex locked the door and said "Febsy, get used to your new home, the hot zero ventilation warehouse. It gets kind of wet in here because water drips in through the garage, so the humidity can get intense from time to time. Each box holds a prisoner, silently suffering. You'll likely find yourself into one of the boxes, if you're lucky you'll be turned into a jacket." Febsy tried to walk but suddenly the nylon of his pants stuck to each other, his pants instantly fusing together. His shiny Moncler jacket sleeves fusing to his sides trapping his hands in the pockets which too became sticky. Febsy said "I don't wanna become a jacket or end up in a torture box, I just wanted to have some fun wearing my jacket!" Alex ran over to Febsy with several of the jackets from the duffel bag, he threw them on the floor and started jerking off while he said "Sit Febsy" suddenly Febsy's mind was controlled by his jacket, he sat on the wet floor. His fused pants controlling his legs, his entire outfit controlling him. Febsy was very scared at this point, his body physically being controlled by his clothes. His mind being controlled by his clothes. Febsy's eyes darted around the room as Alex jerked off over another Moncler jacket. It was filthy looking.
Tumblr media
Alex laughed at Febsy saying "I can see the bulge in your pants, does the look of this crusty cum soaked Moncler turn you on, does the stench of it get you horny. A decade of dust mud sweat and cum, I just keep this thing sat in the warehouse for me and the guys to jack off on. It never gets cleaned or put away. Just sits out absorbing the stink of all the sweat grease oil and cum we drop on it." Febsy gagged and said "No, I'm actually very turned off, please don't come closer with that thing!" Alex laughed hysterically saying "That's the worst job of lying I've ever heard, that's like saying the food was no good take it back with the plate empty licked clean!" Alex said to Febsy "You know what, for that lie I'm gonna put you in one of the boxes but with the warehouse cum rag over your face. Once I box you up you'll have 24 hours to orgasm, if you don't orgasm I'm going to turn you into a jacket, understand?
Tumblr media
Alex took a photo of Febsy (AI Generated - PirateDiffusion, full original). Febsy had his Moncler Maya smashed tight to his body beneath a blue nylon jacket and then a heavy wool overcoat. A latex old man mask was forced over his head and he was lead over to Alex's special torture box. The wool overcoat smelled of rancid sweat, all of it did, the nylon jacket, the massive pile of clothing in the crate he was stood in front of. Febsy said "Please man I don't want to do this! Why am I wearing an old man mask" Alex said "You said you don't want anyone to identify you, so an old man mask will make you not identifiable in photos, now shut up and huff stinky winter gear!" Alex kicked Febsy into the large crate, he pushed his body in deeper and deeper til he was buried in the winter clothing, he forced the doors of the crate shut and said "See you in the morning, I hope you can live through the night." Febsy began to panic instantly, he was surrounded by many decades of filthy sweaty winter clothing, from wool socks to puffy nylon jackets. The smell was overpowering, it made Febsy feel sick to his stomach. Febsy wondered if he was going to die, his brain fuzzy and body buzzing. He breathed the hot thick toxic air, his body becoming more and more floaty. Febsy was clearly becoming intoxicated by the stench. The nasty cumrag jacket covering his face the worst smelling, with each struggle he simply let the toxic smells of the other jackets in the crate permeate his lungs.
Febsy was in a lot of trouble at this point. He had no idea how long it would be til morning, all he knew was he was having trouble breathing, he couldn't handle the stench and he felt like he was dying. Febsy's wiggles became less and less useful as the jackets settled around him, compacting him, reducing his ability to move, worse yet suffocating him. Febsy let out muffled whimpers and cries, the cum soaked filthy jacket starting to invade his mouth and nose, starting to force his mouth open. Febsy couldn't close his mouth, he screamed wildly making gurgling grunting sounds. Febsy was literally being drowned in jackets now, drowned in dirty nylon. He felt like he was about to die when the doors of the crate opened. Alex pulled Febsy out and said "Your pants are dry, yet you're rock hard." Febsy cried exasperatedly "PLEASE NO! ITS TOO HARD TO ORGASM WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIE!" Alex said "No excuses fuckin jacket. I know a guy who will appreciate having a new coat to wear against his stinky sweaty invincible body." Alex pushed a syringe into Febsy's neck and he shrunk to the size of a gumball. He picked up Febsy and walked over to a machine. Febsy stared down watching jacket linings get fused to shiny black PVC, it smelled of plastic and adhesive strongly. Febsy yelled "Don't drop me in there please!" Alex sad "Oh yeah would be pretty bad, you'd be turned into a OOPS" Alex dropped Febsy onto the lining material, the foamy puffy lining surrounded him quickly as he looked up watching the big black PVC sheeting quickly lower its self down over him and the rest of the padding before the soft hum of the welders was heard. Febsy could barely wiggle, encased tightly in the padding and the PVC. All he could smell was PVC and soft padding. It was a strong plastic aroma mixed with adhesive. Febsy knew he was truly doomed now.
Alex grabbed the jacket that came out of the finishing machine, a shiny black puffy jacket with a fur trim hood. He said "Perfect, a 5XL, Jason at the art museum will love wearing you stupid jacket!" Febsy couldn't make a sound, or whatever sounds he could make were too quiet, muffled by all the padding around his body. Alex folded the jacket up tightly and boxed it. Febsy could feel the increase in pressure as the jacket was crammed into a small box. Alex drove for an hour into downtown LA reaching the LA Museum of Modern Art. He walked inside and met Jason.
Tumblr media
Jason the security guard casually smiles for a photo at the art gallery in his puffy black PVC coated winter jacket and uniform shirt (AI Generated - PirateDiffusion)
Jason smiled with great enthusiasm when Alex handed him his Christmas gift. The soft shiny puffy black PVC nylon jacket fit him perfectly. Little did Jason know that sewn into the armpit of the jacket was poor tiny Febsy. Now nothing more than a jacket. Jason zipped up the jacket and said "Oooo it's very snug zipped up, I kind of like it, I'm gonna regret wearing it all day, gonna sweat like no tomorrow." Alex said "Come on Jason, you're a 500 pound whale, you could afford to lose a few pounds." Jason said "Watch it Alex, I'll crush you like I crush the guys who try to steal art, I like being big and bulky!" Alex chuckled and said "For a security guard it's good. And for that jacket it's very good." Jason looked quizzically at Alex saying "Good for the jacket, what does that mean?" Alex said "Well, umm, I'll tell you the truth, that jacket is a weird experiment. I shrunk a guy and sewed him into the jacket for failing to orgasm huffing my sweaty jacket, so now he's stuck under your armpit forever!" Jason laughed hysterically falling on the floor wrapping his arms around him saying as he huffed air "Hahahha, I'm ha, crushing him as I grind my arms against myself now arent I hahahah" Alex said "He's invincible like you are, he can't die never needs food aside from your sweat and never needs a toilet." Jason said "Man, little tiny guy has an easy yet horrible life, living in my jacket!" After a week Jason hadn't taken the jacket off once, it was too comfortable and whenever he did take it off people complained about his smell. The jacket held the smell in. Jason thought to himself and said "Hey jacket, get used to the stink getting worse and worse, get used to seeing nothing but shiny darkness, I'm never taking you off, I'm forever gonna wear you."
Febsy cried softly realizing his fate was truly sealed, there was zero chance of escaping, without Jason taking off the jacket there was no chance of finding a hole to escape through without being seen. With Jason wearing it all the time he will keep the jacket perfectly sealed so it holds all his stink in. For eternity Febsy will live inside of Jason's nasty jacket as the smells get worse around him.
All of this happened because Febsy failed a simple easy orgasm challenge. Be careful when you take on strange challenges, the punishment could be rather extreme

For the most part, Roswell, New Mexico leaves its aliens and humans in a good place.
The series finale saw the defeat of Clyde (Andrew Lees), Michael (Michael Vlamis) and Alex (Tyler Blackburn) getting married, and Liz (Jeanine Mason) and Max (Nathan Dean) finally get engaged. However, it also ended with Max leaving Liz behind (for now) to check on his home planet, with Dallas (Quentin Plair) — just as he and Maria (Heather Hemmens) got together — tagging along.
Executive producer Chris Hollier breaks down the finale and teases what would’ve happened next.
How would the season have ended if this hadn’t been the last one?
Chris Hollier: There was one more scene after this potentially. There was a potential scene where Liz turned around and the console melted, so she was separated and stuck with no way for him to get back. The image it ends on is the thing we were driving towards for many, many episodes.
Max and Liz end the series engaged, but separated. Why have that versus say a time jump where he comes back?
We were talking about doing that. Next year would have focused on, if we could have done it, maybe multiple time jumps and told a larger chunk of the next couple years of their lives. We wanted to bring Max home and we wanted problems to follow him into Roswell — the show’s called Roswell, New Mexico, so we wanted to bring to life what might happen in that town with what he brought back with him.
Was there ever any consideration to have Liz bring up going with him, even if she couldn’t? Or to have that somehow tie into reversing the effects of the mist on Liz?
We did. We spun the wheel about literally everybody who might go or not go with Max in that iteration. And we also talked about next season having access to that world and what we would do to travel back and forth between it and how that would affect all the various characters.
Michael and Alex got married! How did you decide how you would show their wedding, with the flashbacks during the reception?
It was interesting. Some of it was a puzzle of shooting, when to film it and how, and then some of it literally became, how do we hold the kiss that we know the fans want and that ending moment to exactly the right time? So we ended up deciding on this sort of out-of-time version of it. In the same way that when we started the season, we started with a Liz and Max failed proposal, we assume that people would think there would be a wedding, but we thought it would be a nice twist that it’s not the one that they expected. Even when it came to the wedding, it was, how do we twist what’s expected of a wedding?
Alex is taking Michael’s last name, Michael’s found his home with Alex. Talk about getting them both to those points, especially after they were separated for most of the season.
Separating them was born out of some necessity. But we always knew that we were going get them back together and we had flirted with the proposal and all that. So that was living in our head for a long, long time. The Manes thing was initially actually born out of a joke I had in the writers room. I was discussing children with them and how we were going to get to them joking, which you see most of that conversation onscreen actually when they’re dancing. But ultimately it was a throwback to something that was so important in our room when we started Season 1 and 2 about talking about what it meant to be a Manes man. And we felt like we spent four years of Alex redefining and understanding who he is and he knew enough about himself to give that part up and take a new part of Guerin. So there was something poetic about it, but also powerful in the moment.
Isobel (Lily Cowles) and Kyle (Michael Trevino) are finally together and it just seemed easy for them to fall together in these final episodes?
You always plan for success in a TV show. As we sort of really unified our other core couples, we wanted a couple that was going to get to go through some of those experiences that we saw the other two go through in Season 5. So that for us was like, let’s get them together and then let’s put them through the paces of young love.
When did you know you’d be putting Maria and Dallas together, at least at some point, given he’s gone off to figure out who he is?
We had Quentin for a while. We weren’t sure how many episodes we had Quentin. And we tried a little bit earlier and then the studio and the network, they pushed back in the moment, but we wanted to try to sneak it in, especially as we felt like it was coming near the end, and so we started talking about how to bring them together in a surprising way. Actually that kiss that you see on screen, even though it was scripted, how it all came about was all improvised by the actors. So that moment plays very genuine and a surprise moment. We thought that they had so much chemistry when they were together that it was undeniable that they should probably have some sort of story that culminated that way.
And Maria seems settled in who she is and her abilities. How did you want to use that change in her abilities to get her to that place?
We are always playing with the concepts of what defines a person? What about you is something that’s core? What it something that you can trade away? And so we wanted to unmoor her a bit as she — she’s always such a confident character who continues to refine herself. So we wanted to challenge her in that way with this new loss, a long-term loss, especially as we were playing with short-term loss of people’s powers. We wanted to send someone on a longer journey and see what they would come back out the other side. She emerged stronger than ever with an even, I would argue, bigger power than what she had or an understanding of that power.
I loved the scenes with Liz and Allie (Shiri Appleby) because it was so fitting to have Allie mentor her, I loved Liz telling her “you’re the person who shaped how this brain works,” and, of course, that final conversation at the Crashdown and Shiri putting on the alien headband…
Putting on the headband was an improvised moment on set. I was down there with the director of the episode. He was talking with the actors and in the moment, we all came up with that and did that. It was great working with Shiri. We actually shot those scenes when we shot her scenes in Episode 9. So we actually wrote all those storylines out and then built the other rest of the parts of the episode around some of those other scenes. But yeah, I loved it. One of my favorite scenes of the entire series is Liz and Allie sitting together in the diner talking.
What else would’ve happened next?
I have to be careful what I say, because maybe we’ll have a Season 5 or a reboot of the reboot. I think that the next thing we would’ve done is started to explore when Max came home and how he came home different and what came with him. We wanted to bring more things from that home planet here and we wanted to explore maybe a little bit jumping back and forth in time and really bring Roswell under threat in a final season.
What would that have done to Isobel and Michael? It’s their home, too.
It’s their home, too. We would’ve explored the whole idea again of, is home a person or a place or a concept? And we would’ve leaned into the ideas of legacy. We found our three aliens as broken little kids and let them interface a little bit about what it is maybe to have their own children and the future they want to create for them.
You did a good job leaving characters in better places. And Rosa (Amber Midthunder) was left in a really good place. I was really impressed with her storyline and helping out Liz. So when did you know you wanted to tie all of that together?
Very early on, actually. The end of Season 3, we talked about the journey we sent her on and we always try to figure out, what’s a new way to shake this all up? And we thought an interesting challenge would be to watch her literally on the other side of that coin. There’s lots of people that tried to pull her up. So we were wondering what it would look like for her to try to have to pull other people up and kind of stare back at an old version of herself.
Were there any major storylines for this season that you had to scrap?
There’s nothing that we had to scrap. There are things that we, in hope of success that we were going to tell more — every season, we showed more about that home planet. We had plans to do a little bit more there, and we were going to reserve some of those stories ultimately for Season 5.

SaL anon here bestie and seeing how 911 is REALLY gearing up for Monday's S6 premier I think it's time to wrap up our S4 RNM thoughts. So, a little sadly, i present our final episode song, which of course is Tethered. Of course a big part of this choice is that we got our Malex wedding, but it's also because this song also gives me 4x12 feels (more of a Malex episode than their own damn wedding) of being there when the other needs it. Also "cat's cradle etiquette" is just a gorgeous sentiment.
Oh many, the 911 brainrot is REALY, especially after that Oliver/Ryan interview! 😳😳😳 It’s a good thing because that and Vlamburn going all out on Malex wedded bliss is keeping me from being too sad or thinking about Malex being over forever. It’s a shame we didn’t get to do more songs this season but I think you picked such a good one to end on!
We talked about Tethered last year in May, and it had a really good quote from Ryan, part of which was “that sounded a lot like relationships - a series of taking turns and making something together that is better than what we could have created alone” which is so perfect for where we ended up with Malex!
we were married by the ocean. we were tethered by the sea. we tied string around our fingers to remember our ideals.
Okay but this is right away giving me teen Malex feels with them seeing a future together and holding on to that, remembering the picket fenced yard and dad band ideal life, and ultimately fighting for it to start coming true.
i’ll be brave when you are frightened. you’ll be strong when i am weak in the knees. i’ll be calm when you have had enough of these rushing waves. you’ll be the oxygen i need.
Ahhhhh this is SO perfect for Malex this season! Michael was so scared in the first episode about messing things up and Alex was able to be brave enough for the both of them and lot let Michael’s fears triggering his own, but talk them through it. And then, when Alex was sick and weak, Michael helped him walk, and helped make sure they escaped. When Alex was casually trying to throw his life away, Michael stayed calm and adamant that he was not going to let Alex die. And then when Michael lost hope and couldn’t breathe, Alex was there, the steady presence once again, demanding Michael fight for them.
we’ll take turns to untangle the knots, though our hands may be tied, it’s all a part of the plot. cat’s cradle etiquette, we oblige, as we learn to enlace for the rest of our lives.
This season really saw Malex taking turns to be the support the other needed which was so good to see! We finally got them communicating and on the same page, and working on untangling the mess of their past to build something new.  Also in the quote from Ryan was this gem. “I also loved the idea that, in this game (cat’s cradle), we make mistakes [then] we start over.” which is so lovely for where Malex are right now, and how they are enlacing their lives together!
you’ll be balance when i waver. i’ll be warmth when you are shivering cold. you’ll be patience when i’ve had enough of this waiting game. i’ll be the anchor cast below.
I just love how this song is all about balance which we really saw from Malex this season. When one was wavering, the other was there to help, and when Michael was wavering without Alex, it was Kyle being a steadfast reminder about Alex’s love that helped him keep it together. Also, I love the line about being warmth because we all know Michael runs hot! But also, Alex was feverish in 4x12 and Michael was there, keeping him close and keeping him warm. Then we have another callback to Kyle reminding Michael to be patient and keep working when he was getting fed up, AND a nod to Max telling Michael to be an anchor to bring Alex home! You really hit the nail on the head with this choice!
we’ll take turns to untangle the knots, though our hands may be tied, it’s all a part of the plot. cat’s cradle etiquette, we oblige, as we learn to enlace for the rest of our lives
This song is just so lovely and so spot on for Malex and where we got to see them this season, so in sync and so supportive and so READY to start their new lives together, practicing cat’s cradle etiquette of taking turns, working together, and making something beautiful.
It has been a JOY and an HONOR to talk Malex songs with you over the past year and nearly a half and I look forward to many more song, rant, joy, whatever asks from you in the time to come, especially with 911 season upon us! This is also everyone’s reminder to go listen to Sleeping at Last and sob into your pillow about it. You’ll feel better, I promise.

Eric Matthews. The goofy, charming oldest boy of Alan and Amy. My best friend since forever. Our parents always told us the story about how we met in the sandbox in Kindergarten. I was building sandcastles when Jason, Eric’s first best friend, came to ruin them. Eric, being the charmer he always had been, told Jason off and pushed him out of the sandbox before helping me rebuild my sand castle. Ever since that day, the two of us had been the best of friends.
We did everything together. Everything from play dates to eating ice cream to going to middle school and eventually high school. Though we never graduated together as my parents had to move when I was 16. We moved to Los Angeles and never returned to Philadelphia. Eric and I were so torn. We had promised we would keep in contact and the first few months were hard, but we eventually found a rhythm in our long-distance friendship.
Every evening, we would call each other except for the weekends as those were date-weekends where both of us went out on dates. But come Sunday evening, we’d both be on the phone, telling the other what had happened during said dates.
During summer vacation, Eric would come to L.A. to visit me or I’d go back to Philly, just so we could hang out together for a few days. Those had always been my favorite days. We’d reconnect and find that spark again we always used to have, which, in its turn, brought us closer and made the next few months a little less hard when all we could hear was each other’s voice.
Last summer, however, I realized that I’d rather kiss those beautiful pink lips than stare at them as he talked about yet another girl he took out over the weekend and made out with. It stung, to say the least, but I couldn’t tell him how I felt. We were miles apart from one another, it would just hurt more.
Though what hurt even worse was when Eric called me one time in the middle of the night, crying. Confused and worried, I listened to him as he let everything he was feeling out of his system.
“Mister Feeny is retiring, Cory’s going to college and eloped with Topanga tonight and I just– everything’s changing and I don’t know what to do about it. I wanna stop time and just go back to the way things were. All of us in high school, Cory and Topanga fighting over God-knows-what or Shawn and Cory getting into even more trouble. And you… Not miles away from me…”
I choked back tears as I listened to him. He sounded so broken, so lost. I wished I could just hold him and let him cry as he spoke about how he felt. I wished I was in Philadelphia instead of Los Feliz, a place I didn’t quite belong.
“I’m sorry, Eric, I wish I could make things better for you…” I said, my voice just above a whisper, afraid I would cry if I spoke any louder.
Eric sighed on the other side of the line. “Why don’t you just– come home? Study at Pennbrook with me?” I stuttered and stumbled over my words, unsure what to say to him.
It wasn’t like I thought about it. I’m an adult, I could change my whole life around and move back to Philadelphia. Back to Eric. But while that sounded all beautiful and wonderful and like a dream come true, I couldn’t just drop everything here. I had my new friends, a college degree I needed to finish.
“Come on, babe. You know you want to…” Eric pleaded, knowing all-too-well what was going on in my mind right now even though he couldn’t see me. “I know I want you to.”
I heaved in a deep breath. “I can’t, Eric… I gotta finish my degree here. I gotta–” Just as I wanted to continue summing up reasons as to why I wouldn’t be able to go back to him, four guys I knew like the back of my hand entered my dorm and jumped onto my bed. I didn’t even need to see who it was to know who it was. “Guys– I’m on the phone here,” I scolded them as the floppy-haired guy gave me his best smoulder. “Lukas, no.”
“It’s alright, y/n,” I heard Eric say, though I could tell it wasn’t actually okay. “You go back to your friends. You stay put. Okay? Whatever makes you happiest.”
“But you make me h–” Before I could even finish my sentence, Eric had hung up the phone. “Happiest…” I mumbled before placing the horn back on the receiver.
“You okay?” the  blonde guy I knew best as Alex Mercer asked me solemnly.
I pressed my lips together. “No– not really…”
Luke wrapped his arms around my waist and snuggled into my neck while Reggie sat on the end of my bed with his legs crossed. “I think you ought to go visit him,” he said.
“What?”
“No, seriously. You miss him, he misses you and you clearly need each other right now. Go back to Philly, y/n. Even if it’s just for the weekend.” For once, Reggie actually spoke some sense.
“Yeah, I mean, you clearly miss each other and you need each other right now. And maybe, whilst you’re there, you can figure out whether you’d wanna move back to Philly or come back to us,” Alex added.
I had met Luke, Reggie, Alex and Bobby during orientation day, along with Rose, my roommate. There hadn’t been a day where we didn’t spend time together. All six of us were sewn to the hip. Wherever one went, the others went too. A lot of people called Rose and I their groupies as the four of them had started a band way back in high school. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say those four were actually married to one another.
But to be fair, Alex and Reggie were speaking some truth now. I did miss Eric. I missed him tremendously. And maybe, once there, I could see that Los Angeles was truly where I belonged or if I should stay in Philadelphia with Eric… It was the ultimate life test.

I heaved in a deep breath before lifting my hand to ring the doorbell at apartment 3E. Nerves bunched in the pit of my stomach and my hands were getting clammy. I wasn’t even sure if Eric was home. I wasn’t even sure if coming over was such a splendid idea. I wasn’t sure of anything anymore.
Even less so when a tall fiery red-haired girl opened up the door. My throat dried up for a second. Did I get the wrong apartment? Eric hadn’t told me about a girl roommate or anything. All I knew was that he lived with Jack and Shawn. Though I figured since Shawn had gotten into Pennbrook too, he might’ve moved into a dorm with Cory.
“Hi, can I–” the girl stopped in her tracks as she let her eyes glide over me. “You’re y/n, aren’t you?” Her lips curled up into a smile. “Eric has told me so much about you!”
The nerves in my stomach made room for fluttery butterflies. Eric talked about me. Even to girls as pretty as this one. Knowing Eric the way I do, I didn’t think he ever would. ‘Girl repellant’ he’d call it.
“Uhm… Yeah… I wanted to surprise him… Is he here?”
The girl chuckled. “Believe it or not, but he’s actually in class right now.”
“Eric? In class?”
She nodded her head, her lips curling up into a smirk. “I’m heading to campus now, you wanna come? His class is almost over.”
It definitely beat sitting here, waiting for him.
“Sure,” I replied and the girl quickly went to grab her stuff before walking out and guiding me towards the elevator again.
“I’m Rachel, by the way. I just moved in a couple days ago,” she said while pushing the button to call the elevator.
Rachel. Roommate Rachel. She was definitely Eric’s type… A girl.
“Eric hasn’t told me about you yet. For a second, I thought I was at the wrong apartment,” I said, chuckling a little.
Rachel and I got into the elevator and she told me about how she wound up living with Jack and Eric. I had to admit to myself that I was only slightly jealous of the moves the two boys had made on her. Not that I cared about Jack hitting on Rachel, but I did care about Eric doing it.
The red-haired fury led me towards campus and we talked all the way there. Mostly about Eric. She asked me questions about our childhood and I told her every single story about him. It wasn’t hard talking about Eric. Everything we went through together flowed out of me like a waterfall. A waterfall of Eric-filled stories.
“Oh, look. He’s at the Student Union, as predicted,” Rachel said, pointing towards where Eric, Jack, Shawn and Cory were seated on the sofas, sipping coffee.
A smile involuntarily crept its way up to my face. Eric Matthews. Seeing him now made my heart beat faster and my stomach fill up with all sorts of butterflies. My LA boys were right. I did miss him tremendously.
“Come on, let’s go say hi!” Rachel urged, pulling me along by my wrist.
“Don’t you have a class to go to?”
She shook her red mane. “I’d rather see this beautiful reunion,” she said.
Cory was the first one who met my eyes. His laughter made room for confusion to then turn into delight. “Y/N?” he exclaimed, causing everyone’s head to turn my way before he got up to embrace me. Jack and Shawn hugged me next and when I turned to Eric, he was still seated on the couch with his cup of coffee halfway to his lips.
“What are you doing here?” he finally asked.
I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear nervously. “What? Aren’t you happy to see me?”
His wide eyes turned back to normal and as he put his cup on the coffee table in front of him, he blabbed while getting up to hug me. “Wha– of course I’m happy to see you, y/n. I just didn’t expect you to come? Don’t you have classes and stuff?”
I inhaled the familiar scent of Eric Matthews. As my senses filled up with him, my nerves finally calmed down. I was home.
“I wanted to surprise you…”
His hands cupped my face as he regarded me. He inspected every inch of my face as if to see if I was complete and really there. “And surprised I am,” he whispered.
Shawn handed me a cup of coffee as we all settled back onto the couch. They asked me questions about LA and about college in LA, and I answered each and every one of them. It felt good being with this gang again. It was like coming back home.
Tumblr media
Eric took me everywhere that weekend. Friday night, we went to Chubbie’s. On Saturday, he took me back home where I reacquainted with Alan and Amy, and we spent some time with Morgan.
Now it was Saturday night and we were all at the club for a good party. I was three drinks in and chatting with Rachel at the bar. I had grown close to her over the two days I had been here. Just like Rose, she always knew exactly what to say. And she listened. She listened to all my sorrows and worries. She really listened.
“I think you’re in love with Eric,” she stated before taking a swig of her beer.
“What? No! I–” She raised an eyebrow at me. “I am in love with Eric…”
She let out a cackle. “Ha! I knew it!”
“I can’t act up on my feelings though, Rachel. We live miles apart. Being friends is already hard enough, I don’t even wanna know what being a couple would do to us. If Eric would reciprocate my feelings, that is.”
“Would you believe me if I told you Eric is in love with you too?”
“No.”
“Well, he is! The way his eyes light up when he talks about you… It’s pure love. Sure, he can be a bit daft and he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, but when he talks about you, he almost becomes poetic.”
“You’re ridiculous,” I said and sipped from my beer again.
Rachel shook her head at me. “See for yourself.” She pointed somewhere behind me and the second I turned around, Eric was in front of me with those big, sparkly eyes of his and that goofy smile I’d come to love.
“Dance with me, baby!” he shouted and pulled me along to the dance floor. As I looked back at Rachel, she gave me a knowing look. She wasn’t right. She couldn’t be.
“I need you to stay,” he slurred, clearly having drank one too many beers. “Please, can’t you stay?”
“Eric,” I sighed, “You know I can’t. I’ve got –”
“A degree to finish and friends to go back to, I know, I know…”
I pressed my lips together in a thin line as I watched him. He was still moving, swaying from side to side to the music, but there was a lot less enthusiasm behind than before we started talking.
“Hey,” I started and placed my hands on his shoulders. “You know I would stay if I could, right? I just – I can’t, Eric.”
“Yes, you can, y/n. You can stay here, transfer to Pennbrook, live with me and Jack and Rachel. Be here. With me.”
His offer sounded alluring. A little too alluring. The alcohol coursing in my veins almost made me say ‘yes’, but the sober part of me knew that wouldn’t be a good idea. “I need a better reason than that, Eric.”
“I’ve got more reasons for you to stay.”
“Gimme one.”
Before I could properly process what was happening, Eric grabbed my face and pressed his lips to mine in a deep kiss. As we pulled apart for a moment, I had to take a breather and process what had just happened.
“That’s a good reason,” I whispered before kissing him again.
I didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the fact that we’d actually wanted to do that for a long time, but the rest of the night we spent together, making out in a corner of the club until Rachel and Jack pulled us apart and brought us back to the apartment. Eric and I fell asleep together on the couch, cuddled up. The place where I’d wanted to fall asleep for months now. The place where I belonged.
Tumblr media
It felt weird waking up in his arms. Not that we hadn’t done that before, but the events that preceded it were new. I hadn’t ever been kissed the way Eric had kissed me last night. It was with so much passion and love that filled up all my senses, that sobered me up almost straight away.
Though, when he woke, it was like nothing happened.
He didn’t speak about it, and changed the subject whenever I tried to. I didn’t know what had gone wrong. It was probably a mistake on his part. He probably didn’t want to kiss me. It was probably the alcohol speaking and not his heart. He didn’t love me the same way I loved him.
It was all a mistake.
“How was your night?” Alan asked playfully when we entered the Matthews’ kitchen for lunch on Sunday.
“Good! We had fun,” I replied and glanced over at Eric. He had jammed his hands into the pockets of his jeans as he moved over towards the fridge.
“It was okay,” he spoke and shoved a knife right through my chest.
I had no clue what I had done wrong or what had gone wrong. All I knew was that Eric was giving me the cold shoulder. The kiss must’ve been a mistake. It must’ve been something he didn’t even want to do and it was just the alcohol taking over. And now it had ruined our entire friendship.
“When’s your flight back home?” Amy queried.
I placed my knife and fork down as I had just finished the delicious lunch Amy had made all of us. “Tonight at eight,” I responded with a nervous smile. My stomach churned when I felt Eric tense up next to me.
“Back to Northridge then, huh? Must be a big change going from cold Philadelphia back to warm and sunny LA,” Alan said with a smile and I nodded my head.
“It’s gonna be quite the di–” before I could finish my sentence, Eric had shoved his chair back and without uttering a word, he stormed out of the kitchen. I could feel my heart break in my chest. He seemed angry. Frustrated. All of the things I didn’t want him to be before I went back to LA.
“I’ll go check on him,” I said and carefully slid my chair back before following Eric outside.
He sat on the cushioned bench where we have had many a talk before as the sun set and the stars appeared into the sky. Though right now, it seemed awfully dark and gloomy. Nothing like what it used to feel like.
“Eric, are you okay?” I plopped down next to him, placing my hand on his shoulder.
He scoffed. “No, I’m not okay. You know, I didn’t ask you to come here. I didn’t ask you to visit me. I didn’t ask and so I couldn’t prepare for you to leave… Again.”
“Eric, I’m sorry. I thought it would be nice to surprise you. I–” I stopped talking as soon as he shot up from the bench and took a few steps away from me. He looked angry and sad at the same time and it broke my heart even further.
“Don’t you know how much it kills me to see you go every time? But at least in the summer, I can prep myself for the goodbye that’s about to follow. I can prep myself for the heartache and now that I didn’t see it coming, I’m not ready for you to go.”
I opened my mouth to say something else, but before I could, he gave me another glare and then stormed off to God-knows-where. I couldn’t move. I was frozen to the bench. My best friend just yelled at me and ran off. I didn’t even say goodbye to him.
“Miss y/l/n, what a surprise,” a familiar voice sounded, causing me to snap my head towards the older man that stood in the next-door garden on the other side of the white fence.
I smiled at him, but I knew it wasn’t genuine and I knew he knew it wasn’t. “Hey Mister Feeny.”
“Are you okay?” he asked and opened the small gate. He made a beeline towards me and sat down on the bench next to me.
I heaved in a deep breath, breathing in the familiarity of my old teacher. “No, I –” I mulled over my words. “I missed Eric, so I came to surprise him but I think it might’ve not been such a good idea.”
“Why not?”
“‘Cause now he’s mad at me because he couldn’t prepare himself for me leaving…” I mumbled, focusing on the rings on my fingers as I twisted them around and around. “I don’t know what to do, Mister Feeny. I wanna stay with Eric, but I’ve got a life in LA. I’ve got friends and I’ve got Northridge and my family still lives there too…”
I looked up to see my favorite teacher regard me with such a tender and familiar look. He felt sorry for me and I also knew there was a  pep-talk coming in a few seconds. Though at that moment, I wasn’t sure if I was in the mood for that pep-talk.
“I’m going to tell you the same thing I told Miss Lawrence when she came to me with her dilemma,” he started wistfully, the only way Mister Feeny ever spoke. “You stay at Northridge unless you have a good reason not to.”
My mind immediately went to last night’s events when Eric kissed me after he told me he had reasons for me to stay. If I had a reason, it would be Eric. Eric would be the one and only reason for me to move back to Philadelphia and I couldn’t lie when I said Eric weighs out every other reason I had for going back to LA.
“I think you know what to do, Miss y/l/n,” he said before placing a comforting hand on my shoulder and getting up again.
“Hey, Mister Feeny,” he stopped halfway to his house. “You’re a good teacher, you know that?” The genuine and heartwarming smile that curled Feeny’s lips upwards made me feel nostalgic. I had missed that man.
“Thank you, Miss y/l/n. And you’re a good student.”
As Mister Feeny returned to his home, I couldn’t help but think everything over. Every thought, every moment of the past weekend seeped back into my mind. There was only one way to stop my thoughts and I knew exactly what it was.
“Y/N?” His voice caused me to snap out of my thoughts. There he was. Finally. “What are you still doing here?” he asked, visibly getting nervous. “I thought you’d gone home?”
I patted the spot next to me on the cushioned bench. Eric hesitantly took the spot, but I could tell he was tense and didn’t quite know what to do. He didn’t look at me and his hands fiddled around in his lap.
“I am home.”
Now he looked up at me. Confusion was written all over his face, a look I had seen on him before. The reminder of everything I ever told him that confused him made me giggle a little.
“What do you mean? Don’t you have to get back to LA? Back home?” He turned his face back to the sky. It was starting to get dark out and the stars above us were starting to make an appearance, along with the bright moon.
“I talked to Feeny and he told me that I should go back to Northridge…” I watched Eric’s jaw clench. “Unless I had a good reason not to.”
He turned his head to face me again. “Is there a good reason?”
I sighed. “I thought about it. I’ve got reasons to go back. Like my degree and my friends out there, my family…” Eric slowly nodded his head and I knew his mind was already preparing him for me to say I was going to go back. “But there’s one reason that makes me wanna stay here. One reason that outweighs all the other reasons.”
“And what’s that?”
A soft smile befell my lips as I leaned in and cautiously pressed my lips to his. Last night’s memories seeped back into my mind.
“You’re the reason, Eric Matthews.”
He smiled as his eyes darted from mine to my lips and back before he fully kissed me on the lips. I couldn’t help but giggle before melting completely into the kiss, into him. After years of being best friends and months of pining for him, I was finally kissing my best friend. I had finally given into my feelings.
And I was making the right decision. I knew that now. I knew that moving back to Philadelphia would be the right choice. I would be moving back home. Back with Eric. Close to Cory and Shawn and Jack and Topanga. All of my friends from when we were younger. Home.
The only thing left to do now was break the news to my friends in LA…
But that was a problem for later.

Well, sOMEONE gave me an idea of OG!Lillian losing her memory and staying with Eliza for a while, and all day during work I was daydreaming of amnesia!Lillian slowly being told her life and being eager and excited to meet her daughter, only to find herself facing off against each member of the superfriends first as they try to suss out whether the memory loss is legit and/or whether she deserves to be in Lena’s presence. But finally she passes the final test (Kara) and when Lena still resists meeting her, Lillian overhears her trying to explain why it’s a bad idea. “None of you get it: she is a master manipulator. Lex didn’t exist in a vacuum-- he had to learn it from somewhere, and he learned it from our father and from her.”
But Kara ultimately talks her into it, and Lillian finally finds herself face to face with the woman who is her daughter. Her beautiful, beautiful daughter. Except her daughter doesn’t do anything except sit there-- no eye contact, no attempts at conversation. Lillian finally breaks the silence. “It’s so good to finally see you...”
She reaches over to take Lena’s hand, but Lena pulls away before she can make contact. Lillian instead lets her hand rest on the table between them. A peace offering.
“I’ve heard a lot about you. About your work in National City.”
Lena doesn’t respond.
“They say you’re a such a force for good--”
“Just-- stop,” Lena says finally. “You might have fooled them, but I’m not.”
“What they’ve told you is true-- I don’t remember--”
“And even if that were true, I’ll let you in on a little secret.” Finally, Lena meets her eye, but her gaze is cold. Cruel. “You are not a good person.”
Lillian’s heart falls, and only now does she realize how bad an idea this had been.
“I spent half of my life trying to earn your love and the other half trying to get away from you. Don’t think for a moment that I’m going to let you weasel your way into my life after I’ve finally gotten you out of it.”
So... it doesn’t go well. Ostensibly, Lena and Kara are in Midvale to visit Eliza over the fourth of July weekend. Kara planned to spend the night in her childhood home, but Lena refuses.
“I won’t be under the same roof as her--”
“I’ll leave,” Lillian says.
Eliza looks at her in sympathy, but doesn’t protest. “Perhaps it would be for the best. We can put you up in the local bed and breakfast for the weekend, and then after...”
After. After doesn’t matter to Lillian. Not when her only free and living child wants nothing to do with her. She lets Eliza make the plans, and collects her meager belongings into a borrowed suitcase. In a bout of stubborn refusal to quit, when Eliza invites her to the community cookout and fireworks display, Lillian accepts. If only to be in the vicinity of Lena, to observe her daughter and feel a part of her in even so distant a way, if only for the opportunity to show Lena that she is different than whoever she might have been.
But when she arrives the following afternoon, she learns that Lena remained behind alone. “To watch the house,” Eliza says, though the excuse is clear to everyone who hears it. Lillian also notices that her daughter’s partner Kara is also missing.
“Called back to work in National City,” is the official party line, but Lillian isn’t sure she believes it any more than she believes Lena’s excuse. She tries to enjoy herself, but her thoughts are blocks away, with the woman who refuses to be her daughter.
The evening deepens to night, and as the fireworks display commences, Lillian tries to lose herself in the explosions that rock the very air. Soon though, the feeling of wrongness that’s been following Lillian all night catches up to her with a foggy sky and the scent of not sulphur, but woodsmoke.
“Fire!” a voice cries. “Fire! Fire!”
All heads snap towards the distant voice, and widen when they spot the glow of a building fire in the direction of Eliza’s cul-de-sac. The crowd on the beach move as one towards the scene, Lillian at the lead. Heart pounding against her ribs, she hears the wail of sirens approaching: too distant, too slow.
“Lena!” she screams as the burning house comes into view. “Lena!”
Lena isn’t on the street-- she isn’t anywhere to be seen. Realization hits like a bolt of lightning, and someone tries to hook an arm around her as she makes for the front door. Lillian wrenches herself free. “My daughter is in there!”
They aren’t strong enough or quick enough to stop her before she barrels through the front door. Lillian’s brain works rapidly to piece together that if the fire started on the ground floor, then the only reason Lena wouldn’t have made it out is if she were asleep on the top floor, where she would likely be unconscious from smoke inhalation. She thunders up the stairs, coughing as the smoke grows dense. Staying low, she sweeps through each room until she finds Lena in the attic room, unconscious on Kara’s bed.
Lillian gathers her daughter up as best she can and drags her back downstairs, through the front door and out onto the grass of the front lawn, coughing all the way. Eliza and her daughter Alex look at her as though they’ve seen a ghost, but all Lillian can think of is that her daughter isn’t coughing.
“She isn’t breathing!” she cries, desperately. Tears spill down her cheeks, and not just from the smoke. Without hesitating, she lays Lena flat and begins to administer rescue breathing. Counting and breathing and crying, her world narrows to her task alone, until the hands of paramedics crowd her vision, moving her aside even as they reach for Lena.
“It’s all right ma’am,” one says gently. “We’ve got her from here.”
Lillian follows them to the hospital, and waits as her daughter is treated for smoke inhalation. Soon, she’s informed that Lena is comatose, and on a respirator.
“I’d like to sit with her, please.”
No one thinks to tell her no. And so Lillian waits, for hours, over a day for her daughter to wake. Doctors come in and apprise her of Lena’s condition, but nothing prepares her for the fear that creeps into Lena’s eyes when they finally open, and she realizes there’s a tube down her throat. Nothing prepares Lillian for the way that fear amplifies the moment Lena lays eyes on her.
“Sweetheart, please,” she begs, “it’s okay, you’re okay. Please, calm down--”
But when Lillian reaches for her daughter’s hand Lena recoils again, and begins to thrash against the restraints that have kept her from pulling out her tube. Choked, muttering sobs emerge around the tube, and sickening gurgles chill Lillian to the core even as a new body inserts itself between them.
“Lena!” Kara says, taking Lena’s face between her hands. “It’s okay, I’m here. You’re safe. I promise you’re safe. Please, calm down... come on, breathe with me. In... out... don’t fight the tube, Lena, okay? Breathe with it... in... out...”
Slowly the monitors cease their shrill screaming, and only then does Lillian realize that doctors have converged as well, only to hold back until Lena was calm again.
“It’s okay, Lena. She’s leaving. She’s leaving...”
And Lillian does. She leaves the room, and doesn’t look back.
---
She can’t leave the hospital. Lillian makes it as far as the emergency room doors before the pull of Lena draws her back. This time, she sits with the others, waiting with bated breath for Kara to come back with news.
When she does, Kara sits next Lillian directly.
“They’ve extubated her,” the girl says softly. Woman, really. Kara is young, comparatively, yet old beyond her years with a weight Lillian can’t quite place. She offers Lillian a tired smile. “She’ll be okay.”
“She was afraid of me.”
Kara nods, not bothering to deny the truth. “She thought.... well, it doesn’t matter what she thought.” She runs a hand across her eyes. “You saved her life.”
“She’s my daughter.” The words come soft, almost plaintive, as though Lillian herself can’t quite believe them.
“Thank you,” is all Kara returns.
---
Lena’s released a few days later. Kara takes her home to National City, and Lillian believes it to be the end of anything she might have had with her daughter. She tries to banish it from her mind, and focuses instead on Eliza, who now has the unfortunate burden of having had her home burn to the ground. They, at least, are friends, and Eliza seems to appreciate her support, however meager it is.
Two days later, Lillian gets a call she isn’t expecting.
“She wants to see you,” Kara says.
Lillian leaves Midvale that very minute with Eliza’s blessing. She makes the drive in record time, and soon finds herself in an apartment that’s both lavish and cozy, full of a warm life she thus far hasn’t been privy to.
In the bedroom, Lena sits propped up with pillows, a box of tissues on one side and a waste bin on the other. “Sorry for the mess,” Lena croaks, cracking open one eye as the door creaks shut behind Lillian. “What I’m coughing up hasn’t exactly been pretty.”
Lillian sits on the furthest end of the bed. She itches to reach for Lena, to care and to mother her, but folds her hands in her lap instead in deference to the undercurrent of wariness that still runs through her daughter’s voice.
“You saved my life,” is all Lena says after a moment. “Usually you don’t do that unless you have an ulterior motive. Like murder.”
Lillian flinches, but then freezes when she catches the slight hint of a smile playing at Lena’s lips.
“Joking,” comes the rasping assurance. “Old-you would’ve gotten it.”
Instead of jumping in on the joke, Lillian finds herself fighting tears. “I really haven’t been much of a mother to you, have I?”
“No, you haven’t.” But this time it comes without malice, without judgement.
Lillian wipes her eyes. “I’m so sorry, Lena. I wish-- I wish I had been better to you. You-- you deserve--- every happiness.”
“I do,” Lena agrees again. “But the good news is, I finally have people who let me believe that.”
“Good,” Lillian says breathlessly. “That’s... good.”
A long moment of silence passes between them.
“I believe you,” Lena admits finally. Her shoulders lift in a shrug. “I don’t know what that means for anything between us, but--- I believe that you’re not... yourself.”
Lillian nods carefully. “It’s hard to hear the things I did. It feels like some other person entirely. I know it’s not,” she says quickly, “not really. But... I want to be better than her. Than who I was.”
Lena looks at her carefully. This time, Lillian looks back, holding her daughter’s gaze.
“Will you help me?”

It’s friday morning and I have a bit of time to write. So coming Monday we can officially say that the second half of the season starts.
Here are some of my thoughts on Malex.  We’ve seen that one of the reasons Michael is the way he is it’s because he thought he didn’t deserve to have a happy life since Rosa died.
Granted. It makes a ton of sense. Michael truly has a good heart but a heart that thinks is expandable. So he carried the guilt for Iz (which ultimately put a wedge between his relationship with both her and Max), he acted out trying to cope, Alex left.
I mean, misery really hit him during those 10 years and then, it hit him again after with everything he’d learned about his family and Alex’s. The end of season 1, poor Michael.
“He’s tangled up in all these terrible memories in my life, and I love him, I probably always will but lately that love just hurts”
Most of season 2, Michael just escaped. He chose not to deal with the heartbreak and the real things that mattered.
But we’ve also seen so far this season that he’s really trying to break away from old patterns and trying to do right by the people he loves.
He’s actually taking actions to move forward.
I think the turning point for Michael actually happened in 2x11, when he’s confronting Jesse and he says:
“I’m angry and breaking things is easier [...] Alex is past that. He’s past you and he’s past me”. Oh the heartbroken look in Michael’s eyes when he uttered those words.
And then once again when he’s confronted with:
“You choose who you are. If you give up, it’s on you [...] If it was you, I wouldn’t cover it up, I would burn the entire world down first”
It circles back to Alex.
Alex, in comparison, was a few steps ahead of sorting things out and move past all the heartbreak and tragedy.
Is he all way there? No.
But, by the end of season 2, Alex’s heart was set but Michael’s wasn’t. Not because of doubt, but because Michael knew he wasn’t as far in the road of letting go of self loathing as Alex was.
“It’s not our time, right now”.
One of the things it really gets me (and I think is one of the reasons Malex’s so compelling) is that both Michael and Alex never got a chance of just be together.
There’s always something surrounding them, tearing them apart. Not themselves but everyone else.
Psycho dads, family history, secret facilities, torture, death and overall so much pain.
And the paradox in their relationship is that the only time they were ever truly happy, at home and hopeful, was when they were together.
But for Malex, happy means tragedy will eventually come.
Part of their path, from my perspective, is breaking away from what surrounds them and choose to head towards each other.
They are both in these separate journeys that have the same finish line.
Each other.
Alex still needs to make peace with the part Manes’ family had on getting in the way of an alien civil war.
Michael needs to let go of his fear of being happy.
Season 3 is showing that they are both getting there.
And I hope that by the end of it, they can cross that finish line to start a new journey, together.

What could have been...
//Saw that the site I use to make mood boards has a CD Cover option and thought it would be fun to do Sunset Curve’s Demo and Unreleased Songs (+Home Is Where My Horse Is) as they would look as singles!!! I may make CD Covers for the other 13 songs in the show...if people end up really liking these ones and if inspiration strikes!
**Gave an idea of what I think the other 7 songs would be about/why they were written (said what we know Unsaid Emily, Now or Never, and Home Is Where My Horse Is are about already of course too)!!
Tumblr media
1. Unsaid Emily: Is of course about Luke’s rough relationship with his mom, which was never resolved before his death. It touches on how he knew he should have turned around and come back home but his pride stopped him. All the conversations he had created in his head about what they would say to each other when he finally saw her again stayed that way, thoughts in his head. Wondering if he had been able to say the right things to his mom or made up with her before dying, would time not have erased the memory of him?
Tumblr media
2. Get Lost: I believe it is about the feeling of restlessness and wanting to just take off on an adventure somewhere new or unique. Similar to how Luke finds sleeves (zleeves) restricting, this song is about how life can feel suffocating sometimes and all you want to do is grab a bag of essentials and walk in the mist/ride off into the night to a freer life.
Tumblr media
3. Long Weekend: Is about the band’s friendship/brotherhood/sense of found family and how over many weekends they find themselves going through a lot of struggles and heartache together. These are the weekends that feel the longest because there is so much the four boys help each other through and many times they find they don’t want the weekend to end so they can spend more non-band time together to just be four stupid teen boys navigating all the twists and turns of life.
Tumblr media
4. Crooked Teeth: My thoughts are that it could have been written when he had braces/a retainer in the 90s & was self-conscious of it, so it was written to cheer Reggie up about his braces/retainer & pretty much say "hey, Reggie...people's smiles vary & they're all unique & beautiful"...instead of mocking him, like the show seems to tell us it was written to do.
Tumblr media
5. My Name Is Luke: Is a darker, more introspective song about Luke’s struggle with an identity crisis where he feels he’s being pulled in different directions. One side is the Luke who loves his parents and wants to make them happy and have them be proud of him. The other side is the Luke. who is passionate about writing and playing music, who thrives off the feelings and energies of the crowd as they connect with him and his lyrics. Luke finds he can’t be one version of Luke without ultimately giving up the other and trying to do both is exhausting and soul crushing at times. The title is his way of saying ‘Hey, this is my name, it’s who I am, and I can be a loving son my parents can be proud of while also doing what I love and making a difference in the lives of people who listen to my music’. He just wishes his parents could come to understand that he loves music and he’s really good at it, so why can’t he continue doing it and make them proud at the same time.
Tumblr media
6. Now or Never: Is, as we know, about Sunset Curve’s rise to fame and how they can dream as though they’ll never die but they’re going to live their life as though today could be their last day alive. They aren’t looking to the future, because all they need are each other and the energy that is coursing through their bodies in the present. They hear a voice in their heads saying you only have this one life, so make the most of it so when you die you’ll have had no regrets about the things you did or didn’t do. This is their time to shine and even when their lives were bleak or lacking, their days were still the best of their lives because they were making music and gradually making a name for themselves doing so.
Weaved in are of course lyrics that seem to foreshadow their 3 deaths with the mention of shock to their hearts (the defibrillators used to try to keep them alive in the alley or ambulance), clocks moving forward but they don’t get older (how for 25 yrs they were in limbo and didn’t age and are now 17-year-old ghosts in 2020), how they kept on climbing 'til their stars collided (floated up out of the ambulance to the dark place until crashing into Julie’s life (she’s a star as Luke says)), and how all that they left in the past was just the just the key to paradise (all the things they left behind once they died were just ‘stepping stones’ to the ‘paradise’ of heaven for most people or in the boy’s case the path to Julie and playing music again).
Tumblr media
7. Late Last Night: Is about the late nights the four boys spent out at clubs/venues leading up to the Orpheum, gigs that helped them gain a decent following, and all the crazy things they saw and did. 17-year-olds out late partying, possibly drinking, on school nights. A higher energy song, similar to Now or Never to match the antics of a bunch of teens practically let loose on the music/club scene during the band’s rise in the Hollywood/LA music scene in ‘93/’94/’95. It evokes the feelings of being wild and reckless as a teen, while also somehow capturing the energy of the nighttime as you move from the crowded main strip into residential areas and how quick and jarring the change can be.
Tumblr media
8. Lakeside Reflection: This is a tough one, but I think it would be about the individual experiences most or all of the boys have from going to lakes during summer with their families. There’s of course all the fun time spent with family, but in the reflection on the lake of those moments the boys only see the truth of their family dynamics, what was hidden behind a pleasant façade.
For Luke, it was the strained relationship and fights with his mom over the band and his dreams.
For Alex, it was the looks and offhanded comments made by his parents and the looks of sympathy from his sister, ever since he told them he was gay.
For Reggie, it was the nights spent keeping his brother and sister distracted as the walls practically shook from the volume and intensity of his parents’ almost daily fights.
And for Bobby, it was the truth that he kept up a façade even with the boys so they wouldn’t know that his family, that the others always believed to be perfect, wasn’t perfect at all. When rarely he saw his parents and they weren’t off on business trips or working late into the night, Bobby found them to be disinterested in his life and any affection or love was relegated to a pat on the back or a quick hand held before they rushed out the door once more.
The happy summer vibes at the lake could never truly make any of the boys forget their truths, but at least they could let loose for the extent of their trips and finally feel like a carefree teen again.
Tumblr media
9. In Your Starlight: This would seem to be a certain kind of love song at first glance and for some people that’s what it may be, but to me it is a very specific kind of love song. This love song is about relationships each of the boys had, the very few of them, that didn’t turn out well for some reason or another. A passion for music overshadowing the passion to keep a relationship going. The fear of long-term commitment and a short-lived bliss, before the fighting starts, ending the relationship before it ever grew deeper. The smothering of a fire in the soul so outsiders can’t see one trace of its flicker, hidden behind a lie, in case they find out the truth and react with disgust or hatred. Or the overly flirtatious and, at times, clingy antics used to get a person interested in starting a relationship. To keep them invested in the relationship, in an effort to make sure they won’t leave out of boredom or for someone better. This song is from the perspective of those other people, how they saw the relationship, no matter the length, and what they see as the thing that ended it or kept it from growing stronger. How they all in some way felt like they were pulled in by light of each of the boys (the stars) and things were good at first, before the cracks started to appear and reality truly set in.
Tumblr media
10. Home Is Where My Horse Is: It’s an expression of where and whom Reggie calls home. The horse had never really stood for an actual horse, but rather it represented Luke, Alex, and Bobby. The people Reggie considered his family, his home, more than he ever would the house he had grown up in. Horses symbolize freedom without restraint, because riding a horse makes people feel they can free themselves from their own bindings. There is no constraining a horse when it runs with the wind, but they also enjoy the company of family and friends. Reggie wants freedom from the stuff with his parents and his own personal demons that keep him held back. He finds with the band, his real family, he can run free and be himself...enjoying being around the boys and not having to worry about fighting and drama. His home is where he (the horse) is... able to be its true self and go where the wind takes it.

It’s just Business - three
Werewolf Steve Rodgers x reader
Warnings for the series: fluffness, Bucky and Sam bickering like five year olds, smutty smut, bad language.
Tumblr media
After coming back from my ruined peaceful walk, I didn’t have the motivation to do anything other than just sitting and reading. I spent most of the afternoon and evening doing that too. It kind of brought back the serene feeling from this morning but not the same. By the time dinner and then sleep rolled around I felt unproductive.
Making a mental note to talk to Bash tomorrow, I pulled back the covers ready to get into bed when I heard a howl just like the night before. The noise caused my breath to hitch in my throat, my hands to grip the sheets. Like a siren call I walked towards the glass door in a daze. Standing out on the balcony now, I heard the howl again but it was closer this time.
The noise made my chest tighten. A pricking sensation familiar to how you’d prick your finger when learning to sow. It got stronger and stronger, almost like something was getting closer and closer.
“Alex?” I jumped screaming when a hand placed itself on my back.
“Oh Bash, sorry, you scared me. I didn’t hear you come in.” I explained.
“I haven’t scared you in years. Last time I did we were little. You seemed to be the one scaring me now.” He grinned, a smile slipping onto my face too.
“Seems that way doesn’t it?” He eyed the lake and trees with a suspicious eye.
“Do you like it here?” He asked coming to stand next to me on the balcony.
“I love it. It’s so freeing.” I stared out at the view.
“I’m sorry for what Dad had done. And, well I’m sorry for leaving you in that house to begin with.” He cleared his throat, I reached out a patted his back. I knew it was hard for him to admit his wrong doings, even if technically he didn’t do anything wrong here.
“It’s not your fault. Mother and Father would have never let it happen. And besides maybe being away from them for eight months will be good for me.” I let out a dry chuckle at the thought. Eight parent free months. Sounded amazing.
“When I was your age, that would have sounded like heaven to me.” He poked my side with a laugh.
“Bash, I spent four months trying to do this task, and I’ve already failed. How did you and JJ complete it in under a month?” I asked astonished, more about JJ than Bash really.
“When Father set us the task, I thought it was easy. And applied to every college in the world, a lot of people wanted the ‘Mayor’s Son’ on their campus, but two sons that was like a dream to them and their scouts. So when I finally picked the college I wanted, they asked if JJ would be joining me. Which he did.” Bash shook his head remembering the trouble JJ caused that university.
“Nobody wants me for my title or my grades. They just want money. How am I supposed to do this? The task is to get into a college without financial help. So far getting a scholarship from every place in the world has failed. Because they said and I quote ‘your parents have too much money’.” I pushed and hand through my hair angrily.
“I have a friend at Hitchend Uni, I called and asked if he could do something. He said he’d see what he could do and call back soon.” Bash looked over to me seeing my sad eyes. “Little sister.”
“I just wish my life wasn’t like this. I wish it were different. That I didn’t have to worry about this stupid task or the fact that if I fail they’re going to kick me out without any financial support. They won’t even let me get a job to support myself, so what money will I have to fall back on?” I tried to relax staring out at the lake. A howl sounded over to the left of the forest.
“You know that Lara and I will take you in. We could never let you be homeless.” He placed a hand on my shoulder.
“Thankyou Sebastian.”
“Ooo using my full name. You must be serious.” He chuckled pulling me into a hug. I gladly accepted the warmth.
“Now come on time for bed.” He encouraged me inside and I listened. Slipping under the covers as he shut and locked the door.
“Goodnight little sister.”
“Goodnight big brother.” He smiled and closed the door. I rested a little easier that night, knowing that when everything goes to shit I have someone to turn to. I’m not alone.
Tumblr media
Two more days. Today and tomorrow and then the freedom is gone. My head started to hurt more and more, the closer it got to leaving. New worries hitting me at every point throughout the day. I couldn’t stop thinking about all different kinds of problems that could happen. Soon enough, the last day rolled around.
A knock on the door had Bash’s head flicking in the noises direction. We were in the middle of breakfast, I was far too busy chowing down my Frosties to care who was at the door until I heard who Bash was talking to. He’d gone to get the door and now was conversing with whoever was there.
“Of course man, come in. We’re just having breakfast.” I went to leave, for now I was beyond pissed.
“Alex.” Lara shook her head at me, but I didn’t listen. Getting up from my seat only to run right into the person I wanted to avoid.
“Good morning Alexandra.” His voice was like honey, his sweet smile pushing me to stay. Dark blue graced his upper body again. Mustering up the best glare I could and sending it his way. I left, going back to my temporary room upstairs. Only a few seconds later he was stood in the door way.
“I want there to be no misunderstanding Alexandra. I no way want you to dislike me or be uncomfortable. However we will be spending the next eight months together and I have specific instructions from your father in terms of a schedule. It would be best if we got along don’t you agree?”
He had some fucking nerve. I grit my teeth taking a deep breath before turning to him and speaking.
“And I want there to be no misunderstanding when I say I have one more day left of freedom. And I would very much prefer to spend it without you, errand boy.” I wasn’t going to be told what to do by my father’s errand boy. Well, man.
The clench of his jaw, the raise of the eyebrow, the spark in his eyes gave me a sense of pride. I had just managed to rile up a grown man and he couldn’t do anything about it. It was in that moment I decided to spend the next eight months making his life as hellish as mine.
He left the room quickly, I couldn’t help the grin that grew with each passing second. For some reason, I didn’t know what that reason was but, I really liked getting him riled up and I couldn’t wait to see what happens when I push him too far and he snaps. I wonder what it is that he’ll do.
I felt my entire body heat up, I figured it was just the adrenaline rush that came with the situation rush. But the longer I stood and pondered, I felt like I was yearning for something? Heat shot through me again, it felt like when you get too hot and the waves of hotness just keep coming until you take off your jacket.
Shaking the feeling off, I made myself determined to go back to being normal for a day. That was ultimately the goal until Mr rugged showed up at the front door. Wonder if he’s still here? I tilted my head with the thought, trying to listen and see if I could hear any talking downstairs.
“Yeah, you idiot.” Lara laughed.
“Ah my loving wife, how ever did I deserve such a glorious mate that showers me with affection daily.” Bash’s sarcasm dripped with each word he spoke.
“Eww sloppy kisses!” Lara scream playfully.
That’s a new one. Never heard someone refer to their partner as a mate before. Strange but with my family stranger things happen every day. Not wanting to take my chances that he hadn’t left I stayed in my room for the rest of the day.
“Wish I could stay.” I huffed flopping down on my bed. Tomorrow was the day I left and I wasn’t ready.
Tumblr media
This is it. No. It can’t be.
“Alex!”
It is. Pulling the sheet above my head, I let out a groan at the thought.
“I’m leaving today.” I said to myself, as if trying to ready myself for the journey ahead.
I got dressed and packed as slowly as possible. Didn’t have the appetite to eat anything. Felt like my stomach would lurch if I did. Couldn’t bare the thought of going away from the first place that had made me feel peaceful.
“Love you lots and lots and lots and lots and lots.” Lara repeated hugging me tightly.
“Okay Lara, let my baby sister breath.” Bash chuckled.
“Our sister.” She glared not letting go.
“Love you too” I smiled pulling away and walking to Bash. He enveloped me in a hug.
“You can do this.” He whispered, squeezing me before letting me go.
I got in the car that had pulled up twenty minutes ago. I didn’t mind making him wait. I waved goodbye to the happily married couple, mustering up the best smile I could. The gorgeous fir trees passed by not helping my solemn mood. Soon the mountains came into view, seeing a few houses dotted here and there on a few of them.
The car passed by the big village. Strings of houses here and there. There was a huge house in the middle of it. People walking about, looking my way, kids playing outside and others farming the land. We pulled up to a house that was slightly away from the village and a bit bigger than the other houses. The driver opened my door for me, smiling in thanks.
“Rustic.” I quipped looking at the house.
“Thanks.” My head snapped to Steve who had been walking my way, behind him was a trail going into the forest that I assumed led up to the mountains.
“Welcome to your new home for the next eight months.” He smiled and somehow, it seemed sincere.
Oh joy.

JATP FIC RECS
Oneshots-
All Those Little Moments- A series of the individual, chronological threads that make up the tapestry of the love of Julie and Luke.
It’s Always Been You (Even if it’s fake)- Julie Molina is not an idiot. She’s insanely smart and extremely talented. But, she does tend to do idiotic things. The most idiotic being telling her family that she's dating Luke Patterson and is bringing him home for spring break.
Ray and Rose and that Guy Trevor- Ray's POV on Rose's friendship with Trevor, through the years. (In which Trevor is kind of guilty but also kind of innocent.)
Head Over Knees- That one time Alex had an existential crisis over his knees.
Wrap Me Up- Julie is absolutely miserable. She’s caught a nasty flu and is so busy pretending to be fine that she’s totally pushed away everyone who could be taking care of her. Luckily Luke is more than prepared to step in.
Promises Kept- This is a missing scene from the fic We Found Wonderland. You need to read that first to really understand what's going on here. This cover's Luke's reactions to major events towards the end of We Found Wonderland.
I’m Still Breathing- Julie has asthma and when he was alive Reggie did, too. So, Reggie helps her out and cements himself as her big brother.
I’ll Love you There, Too- In her heart, Julie knew that Luke was going to propose eventually, she just didn’t know that it would be so soon, or how nervous he really was to do it.
This Hurt that I’m Holding’s Gettin’ Heavy-When Carlos got home from school Tuesday afternoon, he wasn’t expecting to find one of Julie’s bandmates in his bedroom, studying his bookshelf.
Come Again Bright Days- Julie and Luke haven’t spoken since they graduated from high school. But one night during their senior year of college, they find themselves in the exact same bar for the exact same reason: they were dragged there by their friends in an attempt to make them feel better after their respective break ups.
But Suddenly from somewhere out of the blue, I see a different light around you- Julie and Luke, family friends, end up sick together. While cooped up sick at Julie’s, a little conversation leads to a lot of secrets.
Like You Could Love Me- Julie hadn't slept in almost 48 hours. Luke was waiting for her on the porch when she gets home. Exhaustion + unspoken feelings and things are about to get interesting.
Not So Secret Relationship- Alex and Willie have been secretly dating for about a month and they've had yet to tell their friends about it. Alex decided he's finally ready to come clean to them.
There’s one thing on my mind- home didn't seem like home anymore for luke patterson, and so he was desperate to find a new place to write music. after an especially brutal fight with his mother, he finds himself in front of l.a. books. he isn't expecting to get much out of it, it was solely a last resort. but then he sees her, julie molina, and he ends up coming back every week just to keep seeing her. bookstore au
I’m Gonna pop some tags- Alex thinks working at Julie's family's thrift shop over the summer is going to be a good way to make money while also hanging out with his friends. Good. Easy. Fun. He isn't prepared for the skater who ran him over to be Ray's new hire.
Always- Luke is in love with Julie, and she loves him too. But it's not meant to be, he's been dead 25 years and she has a whole life to live. He wants to know why they can't just rewrite the stars, and eventually she finds a way.
He’s a little into it- Willex Hockey AU where Willie and Alex are on opposite teams.
Do a Kickflip!-It's Spring 1995, and Julie wants to spend some time at the new skate park. Unbeknownst to her, five boys are waiting to turn her summer (and life) for the better. Or! 5 times Julie ran into Sunset Curve, and 1 time she met with them intentionally.
Multi-Chaptered-
This is Where I want to Be- Luke is going through heaven and hell in his life and things take a turn when a especial someone drops unannounced into his life making him question his sanity. OR: Luke has a wicked beauty as his guardian angel and loses his mind
I’ve Got This Crazy Feeling This Isn’t our First Time Around- One second he is rocking the night away, the next he wakes up bloodied and battered in an alleyway. Found by a frantic curly-haired girl, he comes to realise nothing makes sense. He doesn't know where he is, who she is or how he got there, but one thing's for sure: It's not 1995 anymore.
Walk a Mile in my Doodled Shoes-The one where the boys use their newfound possession abilities to help Julie out of jams.
If I was you (I’d wanna be me too)- When Carrie wakes up, the morning after Julie and the Phantoms play the Orpheum, her father is gone. When her father has a breakdown, Carrie is forced to move in with Julie's family, and must confront some uncomfortable truths - about her family, her life, and herself. A house full of ghosts just comes with the package.
Time Of Our Lives- Alex, Reggie and Luke have been given an unexpected new chance at life. Will they fulfil their dreams this time?
We Found Wonderland- At the end of season one Julie isn’t able to save the boys and they are jolted out of existence. But what if there was another way? Julie finds herself back in 1995 with a chance to stop the boys of Sunset Curve from ever dying at all. But will she able to find her way home afterwards? Will she want to? Or has Alice really gone down the rabbit hole this time...
Midnight at Mona’s- Julie Molina expected many things on her impromptu road trip to Texas. She expected Flynn to be confused but ultimately supportive; she expected to relax and gain a new perspective; and she expected (or at least hoped) to rediscover the music she’d lost over the past year. What she did not expect was to be bunking with cranky rancher Luke Patterson, or the mysterious (and quite possibly magical) karaoke bar that would lead them on an adventure full of new friends, dangerous enemies, fun music, and a whole lot of love.
How Wonderful Life is While You’re in the World- Red, White & Royal Blue but Willex.
Our Life is a Playlist- They were best friends, they were family, and Julie had come to believe that they were soulmates. By the time the kids had turned thirteen, life had started teaching them the hardest lessons.
That’s Life- Julie Molina feels invisible most of the time. So what happens when she finds herself unexpectedly "married" to her handsome, popular, longtime-crush, Luke Patterson? She is about to find out. When she and Luke are randomly paired up to work on a project together for their Reproductive Health class, they have to learn to navigate the world of adulthood side-by-side for better or worse. All while dealing with the reality and drama of high school. Julie quickly discovers she's not as invisible as she once thought she was, especially to Luke. Does extra time spent together mean sparks will finally fly between them, or will it all go up in flames?

Can prompt a sex pollen fic for Malex? I feel there are not enough of those.
Yeah this turned weirdly fluffy for me, but I still managed a bit of my angst. Can be read as a sequel to Could’ve Had a Family since it does reference the truth serum in it. And since I got this ages ago, well I hope you read and like nonnie.
(I should also probably warn for a tiny bit of praise kink in case you do not like, as well as thoughts of temprature and silk rope play.)
He knows something is wrong the minute Alex walks into the lab. Not because it’s Alex, not because their tentative something has gone pearshaped again, but because a heat rises through him so quickly that he shudders, his hands tingling with the want to touch him, his dick filling without any incentive.
Not that just seeing Alex isn’t enough, god knows he’s gotten rock hard at the sight of him before, but he knows that the rising heat and tingling hands is new. Well. Not new, no signal of lust and want is ever new when it comes to Alex. Just sudden in a way he hasn’t felt before.
He glances over at Liz and the broken vial on the floor. Great, probably infected with something. Again.
“You okay? Something set off an alarm so I thought I’d come check on you,” Alex says. He has a small smile on his face, yet he’s alert enough that Michael would usually know that he’s worried. The fact that he’s in fatigues is also something, he must’ve driven straight over from the base.
He knows Liz is answering, blaming her own clumsiness to whatever alarm must’ve gone off, pointing at the broken vial on the floor as she sheepishly apologizes to Alex for coming all the way from base.
Michael doesn’t actually hear her, he just knows her routine and methods of apologizing by now after working together in the lab for a long time. She’ll apologize if she’s done something wrong, grumble if she’s sorry yet annoyed, ramble in Spanish if it really wasn’t her fault.
This one was definitely her fault so she’ll be apologizing. But all Michael can think about is how damned good Alex looks in his uniform. And that should be point number one, because Michael has enough issues with the Air Force that even if the uniform is aesthetically pleasing on Alex he’s never found it mouth watering. Not like he does now, the heat in him intensifying by the thought of getting on his knees in front of Alex and getting his pants open and just low enough that he can get his mouth on his dick, get it just wet enough that Michael can push him down onto a chair and get that dick inside of him.
He recognizes the fact that he’s starting to sweat, his telekinesis pushing just beneath is skin to get everything and everyone where he wants it. Tendrils of his power escapes him before he even follows his own train of thought, caressing up against Alex in ways part of him knows he would never do if he was fully in control, his fingers moving slightly with the urge to touch skin on skin instead of telepathy on aura. Alex’s eyes cut sharply to his, his brow furrowing slightly. He’s felt Michael’s telekinesis against his skin before, It would be more surprising if he didn’t react to it.
“Mikey, you okay?” Liz asks. He’s sure she knows something is up when he hums instead of objecting to the nickname. “Okay, you definitely got affected by that.”
“Again,” Alex replies, lifting one eyebrow when Liz glares at him. “You know I’m right.”
Liz grumbles but ultimately nods. The last time something from the lab caused unforseen consequences, she was at the helm too.
“It’s... it’s not the same,” Michael stutters out. “No truth, just... hot.”
“Hot how?” Liz asks, her scientist brain already back in full force. Michael wants to be there with her, but all he can think of is Alex and how damned good he looks. They’re not a couple, not yet, though they have been working towards it, hanging out, dating, building a foundation as friends. That have kissed, a time or two. Maybe ten.
“I want to suck Alex’s dick right now and I don’t care that you’re here.”
“Oh. That kind of hot.”
Liz’s eyes are wide open and flickering between Alex and him, while Alex looks at him with unconcealed interest. Though the interest isn’t quite sexual, it’s mostly curiosity.
“You made sex pollen?” Alex asks, turning to Liz. “First a truth serum, and now sex pollen. Only you, Ortecho.”
Liz rolls her eyes. “Yeah, yeah, laugh it up.”
Michael shudders, the tight control he has of his powers slipping just a little to brush up again Alex more firmly than before, firmly enough that Alex clears his throat.
“Okay, Liz I think you need to leave if you don’t want to witness anything.“
Liz opens her mouth to protest, but a whine from Michael makes her mouth clamp shut again. She nods, more to herself than anything as she gathers her stuff and walks to the door.
“Mikey... Are you sure you want this?“ She asks, just as she’s about to walk out the door. Michael tears his gaze from Alex, gripping the reins of his control tight as he wraps it around Liz in a hug like motion he’s done a fair few times before in an effort to show the affection he has for their friendship when he can’t bare to be touched. She reacts the way she always does, her head leaning into it enough that he feels the push of returned affection.
“It’s Alex,“ he replies as if it explains everything. And to Liz it probably does, she knows everything now.
“Okay. Don’t break the lab,“ she says, smiling back at him. “And don’t break Mikey.“
Michael loses the plot slightly after that, his eyes finding Alex again, his telekinesis wrapping around him tenderly. He doesn’t pay attention to the short conversation Alex and Liz have, nor does he pay attention when Liz finally leaves. He only pays attention to watching Alex’s strong hands, the way his pants fit him perfectly and emphasises his strong thighs. He looks into the eyes of the man he’s loved since he was 17, the rush of heat mixing with the ever present want to stand by Alex’s side for the rest of his life.
“I love you,“ he bluts out, for a moment not second guessing himself. “I want to be by your side forever, in our house with our dogs. I want to have kids with you.“
The most beautiful smile Michael has ever seen slips onto Alex’s face as he walks closer. He doesn’t stop until he’s close enough for Michael to touch with hands as well as powers. And he does, powerless to stop himself he tugs Alex even closer and burries his face in his neck, a moan escaping him at the pure scent of Alex, the scent of grass, dust and leather clinging to him the way it always does.
“I love you too,“ Alex whispers in his ear, as he brushes a soft kiss to Michael’s cheek. “I’d get a white picket fence with you any day. Though maybe we should take care of you first, that okay with you?“
Michael shudders as Alex’s hand slip into the front of his jeans to cup his dick.
“You can back out at any time if you don’t want me to touch you.“
Michael huffs. “You’re the only touch I can always handle. Please, Alex.“
Alex hums, opening Michael’s belt and jeans to give himself more room. “Okay. Be a good boy for me and come as soon as you want. I want to feel you come in my hand.”
Michael already feels on edge enough that the first actual touch to his dick almost makes his knees buckle. Alex’s hand is as sure as it ever is, gripping him exactly the way he wants, setting a pace both of them know well from their clandestine meetings over the years. It’s designed to get Michael off as quick as possible but unlike the previous times Michael knows this is to see if this’ll make whatever’s influencing him to stop working. He knows Alex wants him, and any doubts he might have won’t be allowed to ruin this.
“You’re such a good boy, Michael, come for me so we can go home and do this properly,“ Alex whispers, his teeth tugging at Michael’s earlobe as he twists his hand. “Let me lay you down on my bed and play with you, just the way I know you like.“
Michael’s mind pictures being tied to Alex’s bed with silk ropes, soft against his wrists as Alex runs slips of silk over his entire body, playing with ice cubes over his hot body until he shudders and comes hard. He doesn’t last long after that, his orgasm ripping out of his with a strangled should just as Alex runs his finger nail lightly over the head of his dick.
He pants as he feels the heat recede just enough for his telekinesis to finally completely respond to his control again. He lifts his head from Alex’s neck, smiling when he meets Alex’s eyes.
“Take me home, Alex.“

I'm sorry it's so long but I hope you enjoy!! 😊
Two Braids Is All It Takes
Remus was always there. Whenever Sirius needed him, his Moony was always there.
Of all the things in the sob story that was Sirius’ life, Remus had been a consistent source of comfort. The lingering scent of chocolate and fresh parchment had been -is- one just as much.
This particular full moon had been horrendous. The toll it had taken on Remus’ body had had him prone in bed for two whole days. To top it all off, Sirius had received a howler from his mother this morning.
Sirius had been brooding the rest of the day, berating himself for being so pathetic that he couldn’t even get himself to comfort Moony. He hadn’t even responded to James’ words of comfort.
“James,” Sirius began, voice still thick with tears, “You should go-“
“No, Siri-“
“James.”
Prongs shut his eyes, steadying himself, and bowed his head.
He looked up after a few seconds, having made a decision.
"You’ll be okay right?” His tone was anxious, “I’ll send for Wormtail, wait-“
“Prongs,” Sirius put a hand on his shoulder, cutting him off, “Just leave me be. I’ll be fine. You should go to Moons, I’ll try to come by later.”
The couch cushions shifted as James got to his feet and moved to the door. He turned back to give Sirius one last look-over before offering him a small smile. Sirius returned it rather weakly.
Sirius screwed his eyes shut. Now James was gone too. Had his mother been right? Would he always be this alone? His miserable thoughts gave way to new tears. He bit his lip hard, choking on a sob. He took deep breaths but they only seemed to start the sobs anew.
Today was the evening of third day, and Remus insisted that he was better. Madam Pomfrey spent nearly an hour confirming it, and after bettering his remaining daylight hours with one last sticky, sour potion, left him to his own devices.
James told him of Sirius’ condition then, and Remus asked to meet him, despite James’ protests that he should return to the dorms to rest. Ultimately, Prongs gave out a resigned sigh and got Remus to the Gryffindor Common Room with Wormtail’s help
The three padded softly into the place, Remus looking just as anxious to check on Sirius as was James. The man in question, however, was so out of it that he didn’t even register their entry.
Peter sighed in long-sufferance. He whispered, “I think it’ll be better if we leave him with you, Rem.”
“Moony, I think you’re the only one who can get through to him right now,” James murmured, “He refused to say a word when I tried”
“I’ll try,” Remus paused, still staring at Sirius’ pitiful form. He smiled at his friends, “You guys should go get some sleep, you must be exhausted from all the running.”
The two helped Remus as he limped to the couch. Once he managed to stand with the support of the couch’s backrest, he waved them away and listened to the sound of their footsteps fading up the staircase followed by that of a door creaking shut.
Remus accio’d a nearby chair and sat down heavily. His eyes moved to Sirius, and before he knew it, his hands were carding through Sirius’ tangled, knotted hair. There was a jolt as Sirius startled himself out of Remus’ grasp, and relaxed evidently once he realized whose smiling face it was.
He looks so pretty like this, was all Remus could think, I don’t deserve him.
He lifted himself off the chair with great effort, moving to the front of the couch, settling down next to Sirius. He placed his left foot on the ground and stretched his right leg across the couch onto Sirius’ lap, leaning against the armrest. Sirius tracked his movements with an absent look in his eyes.
“You shouldn’t be here,” Sirius said abruptly, eyes coming back into focus.
“That isn’t for you to decide,” Remus replied casually, “I feel better, because everything feels better when you’re around”
Remus suspected it was a mixture of the late hour and mild relief from three days of agony that was allowing him to say and do things he’d regret later, but retrospect can’t hurt in the moment, can it?
Sirius froze for a second, a blush creeping across his face as he processed the statement.
Remus whooped internally, he’d provoked a rare moment of uncertainty from Sirius, even though the context he would have to give to James to explain his achievement would be wildly embarrassing.
Clearing his throat, Sirius shifted towards where his face lay on the couch, “Is your leg better?”
"Yeah, much better.” Remus hesitated, thinking vaguely of consequences, though it was kind of hard to do while he was distracted by Sirius’ moonlit, godly face, the firelight throwing his freckles and scars into aggravating focus.
“Lay down” Remus said finally.
“I’m not your dog,” Sirius growled, earning a chuckle from the other man.
“Merlin, Pads….” Remus sat up himself, a small distance away from Padfoot.
“Okay, sit down here.” He says, nodding to the place on the floor where his sock-clad feet are resting.
Sirius eyed the floor dubiously.
“Just humour me, will you?”
Sirius still looked puzzled, but complied nonetheless. Leaning cautiously against the werewolf’s legs, he crumpled the letter held in his hand, his clouded gaze staring vacantly at the dying flames in the heart.
Remus smiled minutely, and brought his hands up to Sirius’ hair, tugging gently at the strands like his mother used to do to soothe him. He continued to do so as Sirius’ body starts loosening up.
After a while, Remus probed, "You wanna talk about it?" Sirius hummed before answering with a small smile,"Same old crap." Remus let out a light chuckle and shifted his hands to massage Sirius' head.
Sirius moved himself to lie on Remus' chest. He felt home, a home he'd never felt in the house of the Blacks. It smelled like home, it felt like home. To him, it was always home and it would always be so.
The silence continued, until Remus stopped with his actions. Sirius, who was almost asleep let out a groan before opening his eyes. "Moons," he said with a sleepy voice. Getting up from his chest, Sirius looked at a frozen Remus. Panicking he asked, "Moony..Moony! You alright?" Snapping out of his thoughts, Remus looked at Sirius and smiled.
"Moons?" Sirius questioned again.
"Can I braid your hair?" Remus posed casually.
This was the second time Sirius had frozen with a flushed face that night. Remus couldn't believe it, but he smirked at the effect he had on the man.
"Can I braid your hair, Pads?" Remus asked again.
The idea of braiding, Lily and Marlene had suggested it and even offered to do so but he had refused it. The only thing going through his head at the moment was- moons wants to braid my hair!!
"Ahem, Pads?" Remus said bringing Padfoot back to earth from his heaven. "Ah, yes... sorry, I was just a little surprised... ofcourse please go ahead," he rambled. He mentally cursed himself for doing so and turning away he placed his now red face in his hands. He could feel himself burning up because Merlin, Moony is going to braid his hair.
He straightened himself and sat in anticipation. Moony brought his hands to Sirius' hair and played with it while deciding which braid to do. Remus combed Sirius' hair with his fingers and the tension in his body eased out. He started to breathe evenly as Remus began parting his hair and pulling his strands into what felt like curls around one another.
French tails, that's what Remus ended up with two small, cute little french plaits. Five minutes ago, he couldn't decide what to do since the idea had struck him so suddenly. Playing with Sirius' hair had reminded him of his mother. Hope had taught Remus baking, cooking, knitting and plaiting his mother's hair. She was the only person he did it for.
But now, in front of him sat the man he loved, in two French plaits, the first braided hair his mum taught him. In front of him, sat a man staring at himself in a mirror he ran to pick up from across the room, which probably belonged to Marlene but it didn't matter. Sirius was smiling, that was all Remus would ever need.
Remus looked down and grinned. He felt proud but more ecstatic than anything. Sirius got up and jumped, laughed and said things which Remus didn't care to hear because oh merlin he's so handsome.
He was fighting the urge to get up and kiss him, confess to him and tell him that he loved him, he truly did.
On the other hand, Sirius jumped up and down looking at his Moony and shouted, "These are amazing Moons! You are amazing!" Sirius could've sworn that he almost thought leaping at Remus and kissing him but no.. this would be enough.
He smiled brightly at him once again, as Remus now regained consciousness from his thoughts. "I'm glad you like it," he said clearing his throat. He slowly got up and raised his hand to caress Sirius' hair but accidentally tripped. Sirius instantly grabbed the man by his waist and smiled," Woah, careful there Moons." "I keep falling for you, I can't help it you idiot," Remus said arbitrarily.
Again, Sirius thought, it's the third time this night moons please. His hands moved from the man's waist to his neck. Sirius lunged forward causing his and Remus' lips to crash. The kiss lasted a good minute before Sirius pulled away.
"I like you.." they said together and broke into giggles.
"Thank God you do," Remus said blushing.
"Ofcourse I do, boyfriend," Sirius teased making Remus more flustered.
And now all Sirius had to think about was, getting Moony to braid his hair because oh merlin there was nothing better than- Moony, his Moony.
And now the two lied curled up on the couch with Remus thinking, two braids is all it takes.
Ok please I'm not amazing or anything but I hope you enjoyed it!!
Thank you @alex-tries for helping me correct my silly mistakes

true beauty.
THIS DRAMA WAS UN-EXPECTANT. HILARIOUS. CUTE. AND PRECIOUS. we got cha eunwoo, our bae. with our newest bestest boy, hwang in-yeop. and our queen, mun ka-young. what else would one need in a drama?! i was excited when they announced the creation of this drama, because like so many of us i love the webtoon. that is overlooking the faults of the basis of the theme with shallow standards of beauty, it is great. and i love our characters. i especially love how the writers of the drama utilized the great structures of the webtoon’s characters and created another world. i rate it a 10 out of 10.
Tumblr media
we follow our leading lady im ju-kyung as she overcomes bullying at her old school for being ‘ugly’. she was cast out and a ‘dumpling runner’, running around for the group of bullies. she finds a passion for makeup and masters it, becoming a new person with a ‘new face’ after putting it on. she starts life at a new school with her new face. she stumbles into an old place of comfort without her new face, the comic book store, and runs into the school prince, lee suho. this ensues with a bout of lying; unsuccessfully, because suho knows that she is the same im ju-kyung that started at his school. he protects her secret, and it leads their relationship to grow closer. we follow them through their years at high school, as she hides her face and later hiding their relationship from their classmates. this drama continues to follow them through their young adult years.
now on to the spoilers…
overall, once again i must always state that i don’t love it when they take this shallow perspective and over dramatize the conventional aspects of beauty. im ju-kyung, who is supposedly not conventionally beautiful and they dramatize her redness and pimples, etc. she does all these wild things to hide her true identity from those around her at school. thankfully the writers did not try to pull that ‘oh my goodness, i didn’t know that was you under the makeup’ game because our suho is not a shallow cookie and looks below the surface. because that game is ridiculous and i would have died. i am thankful the ending that this drama took, because i was nervous especially at the start that it was going to go the duration of the show with no-one knowing her true face, like the webtoon. thankfully we had a character revelation unfortunately not on her own timing. but she had grown as a person and had a team of people behind her allowing her to shine and overcome. we love character development. it’s great. it makes my heart happy. we started the drama with her completely swallowed whole by the perception that she wanted to portray to those around her, not showing her true beauty. because she was a beautiful person who wanted to protect those around her, and once she let go of this facade and mask she was able to fully be the person she was destined to be.
i loved suho’s character in this. he had so many layers and i love that they didn’t make it like the webtoon in this aspect. i love how their relationship started in the comic store and ended there. he grew so much, and became livelier because he knew im ju-kyung. his character was so stoic and overcome with sadness at the start. his best friend committed suicide and he blamed himself for this, which was completely out of his control. im ju-kyung showed him that it was not his fault and they came to protect one another. also love how the writers had him pursue music producing at the end, and even produced for seo-jun’s debut. he was such a great son, after him and his father finally reconnected and then he suffered a stroke, crazy! suho went to the states to care for his father. definitely lost in this, he broke up with ju-kyung as to not hold her back, which was silly and even though he was across the world they could have made it work. they’d been through so much worse, but that’s for another drama universe.
han seo-jun our brooding character with a light personality just beneath the surface. i loved seeing his character at home and with his crew, compared to walking through the school halls. (hello, ‘okey dokey yo’). his character always fiercely protected those around him and i just love seo-jun. i love that he came to pursue his career as an idol, and ended up debuting at the end. he worked so hard and deserved the world and more. and i have to say i hate the second male lead dramas, because they break my heart. he changed so much because im ju-kyung’s character grew him and challenged him in new ways. i knew seo-jun would not get the girl. i knew this from the start. did that stop me from loving his character? no. no, it didn’t. did it stop me from cheering for him, even though i loved suho? no. so who ends up heartbroken in the end with him? me. i do. so here i am weeks after the finale, thinking about how seo-jun told ju-kyung that suho was leaving for the states to  send her running after another guy, and ultimately bringing the two of them together. thinking about all those years suho was in the states, when seo-jun treasured their friendship and was with her quietly supporting her in her dreams, for her to ultimately leave for suho. sad. that’s what it is, the definition of sadness. and goodness gracious where is my seo-jun? i will love you and treasure you honey. you do not need ju-kyung, i got you boo.
i must add that hwang in-yeop can show up in my life any day, and i will graciously stop everything and marry this man. i love all of his dramas thus far, his character from the interviews i’ve seen, i love him. he is a favorite. i am expectant for the upcoming dramas he will surely steal the show in.
the friendship between seo-jun and suho was so multifaceted. i love how we saw how their relationship was before when they were a trio, and then the brokenness when seo-jun blamed suho, to then seeing them come together because they realized they both cut one another off when they should have leaned on one another instead. it was sweet and i loved their bromance moments. they truly stole the show away. it was hilarious and fun with them together. and i appreciate that the relationship between suho and ju-kyung didn’t break the two apart in the end.
Tumblr media
i need to make note how much i love im ju-kyung’s family. like her siblings were iconic. her sister im hee-kyung and her relationship with eui-sik, the homeroom teacher. ICONIC. and im ju-young, her brother, and his precious attempts at winning seojun’s sister’s heart. PRECIOUS. i would 10 out of 10 watch a spin off with the focus on these characters. i loved when ju-kyung’s mom realized all the trauma that her daughter endured how she went to mending the broken pieces to rebuild their relationship. and i love how sweet her dad was, always encouraging her dreams. and i love how they all wanted the best for her, and supported her dreams of becoming a makeup artist.
i am so sad that whenever we get a great friendship between our leading ladies they end up in awful relations at some point in the drama. our kang soo-jin and im ju-kyung were the best of friends. she even found out about ju-kyung’s secret and protected her to get back to the tent when they were on the trip. and then when ju-kyung started to date suho, soo-jin got everything twisted. i appreciate how suho let her know that no matter the situation he would not have ended up with her, because he didn’t see her in that way. and i loved the seo-jun put her in her place and confronted her for posting the photos of im ju-kyung online. i am thankful that we had the revelation for soo-jin’s character and came back to apologize to ju-kyung in the end. it was sweet and genuine. she came to see why she was like the way she was, grew from it, and apologized for her past behaviors.
i love how suho and ju-kyung’s world’s connected. from the comic book store, to high school, to her sister working at his father’s music agency. it was complete destiny that they ended up together. i love a good ‘it is destiny, it was meant to be'.
Tumblr media
the webtoon drama inception was REAL. i loved that they added those little easter eggs throughout the drama with the little connections to ‘extraordinary you’. i loved it.
favorite moments.
the flashback comic book store scenes.
the games at the camping trip.
roar...like any and all instances of this. precious.
ju-kyung confessing that she liked suho to seo-jun, and crushing my team seojun heart.
suho and ju-kyung’s first kiss.
suho daring to hand ju-kyung a cup in the elevator. ㅋㅋㅋ
seojun and suho fighting over making the best dumplings at ju-kyung’s house.
seojun showing up to help his sister, and im ju-young getting so excited that han seojun came to save the day.
im ju-kyung sticking up for herself against her new and old school bullies. like the legit fist fight and then the one when she stood up for suho. when they came for her man she was like ‘heck no, not today honey’.
seojun and suho at the hospital and having to care for each other to complete daily tasks. really brought them together again. > also this accident was super dramatic. but we love that everything was chill in the end.
im ju-young being traumatized by his eldest sister kissing her boyfriend, and then encouraging ju-kyung and suho to kiss.
tteokbokki between seo-jun and ju-kyung.
‘okey dokey yo’...ICONIC to say the least.
Tumblr media

Street Dance of China S3, Ep 3. It sounds like maybe I should step up my pace on these, as they’ve announced the captains for S4 now? (Yibo back, Lay Zhang back, plus a couple of new guys I don’t actually recognize yet.) When is this going to air because it is just LAUGHABLE that I can keep up with 3+ hours of this a week. Particularly if I’m going to keep obsessively re-watching Word of Honor AND try to finally finish Killer & Healer in the miniscule free time I actually have for teevee. There’s certainly no way I can watch and dither on about 3+ hours/week worth of dance show in realtime before January, at least.
ANYWAY, this ep, we get a recap of everyone falling out after the captains’ cypher, and we learn who got the final extra towels and passed through to the next round: Lu Jiao Ni, who we barely see, on Team Jackson Wang; Yuan Ye (as promised) and A Li (who we barely see) on Team Lay Zhang (ETA: Wait, we find out later that A Li isn’t even on Lay’s team, she’s on Yibo’s - he wouldn’t move her on, and she gets one of Lay’s towels instead); Bullet (as promised) on Team Wang Yibo; and Xiao Ming (as promised? maybe? as we’ve barely seen this guy?) on Team Wallace Chung.
This week: Out of 400 people, we’re down to 105. Not all of these faces are familiar, and I suspect I don’t really need to learn 90 percent of the unfamiliar faces. I … am going to go out on a limb and make a guess that one of the dancers whose name has been bolded in one of the past two episode recaps is going to be the ultimate winner, because I have umpty SYTYCD episode reactions on my LJ, and I suspect I know how this works. I wouldn’t even put money on any of those five bolded names in the previous paragraph, quite honestly. Anyway, now it’s time to start culling down to 60. We bring out the team captains, and my first reaction is “MY EYES” because wth are some of you wearing? Wow. Yibo’s shoelaces are all over his jacket. Wallace looks like he rolled a flasher on the street for his trenchcoat. Lay Zhang is wearing a baggy pink jumpsuit, and I guess, OK, it’s easier to maneuver bathroom breaks in one of those when you have a dick, but that’s definitely a fashion trend that should have stayed back in the ‘80s. I guess questionable fashion is an international phenomenon.
There’s also an empty chair for the promised Mystery Guest, and there’s a game with clues, and a lot of guesses from our captains about who the Mystery Guest will be, and Jackson does A Bit through the whole thing. I don’t know whether to be entertained or annoyed by him. He’s the only one without some egregiously questionable fashion choices (so far) this episode, so maybe he gets a pass. Anyway, I don’t have the pop cultural context to understand the guesses, and I also don’t have either the pop cultural context or the knowledge of this area of dance to grok the Mystery Guest’s identity, but he’s Huang Bo, and apparently he had more than 1000 dance performances in the 1990s, so he must be at least as old as me and Wallace, if not older. Yibo takes the opportunity to make the – very NON-politic – remark that maybe HE wasn’t even born yet at the time? That … is not the way to win friends and influence people, Infant. Also, the Mystery Guest is NOT the person Jackson kept doing A Bit about. The reveal is all very dramatic, and he does a lil’ bit of choreography from of each of the four Extant Captains’ videos before he takes off his mask, and they act appropriately impressed, and there are some girls with short shorts among his backup dancers, so that all happened. The show obviously wants me to be very impressed by him. Show also tells us he’ll have a special skill that will be very important and at least leads us to believe that he’s going to be the “life-saver,” so the audience immediately curries favor, or at least plays at it.
Next up: Rules. Eliminations this week involve contestants self-selecting into groups of anywhere from one to five people and performing for a panel of all the captains. Teams pull a number out of a hat for performance order. Thumbs up from all four captains, you go to the next round. Abstentions from all captains, you go home. Thumbs up from some and abstentions from others, you face the possibility of a call-out from other contestants, whereupon you have to dance for your life battle to find out which of you stays and which of you goes. Oh, and we’re only going to keep going until the 60 available seats are filled, and then we’re done. If you’re number 35, you’d better be prepared to battle someone earlier and kick their ass, or you’re fucked, you don’t even get to dance. I’ve said it before: Audentes Fortuna adiuvat. Only wait, ETA: There will be some last minute BS rules fuckery, in a way that is clearly intended to save someone in particular, which I feel some kind of way about - and it is not really the way that almost everyone on the show seems to feel - but I guess we’ll get to that later.
And cue ridiculously long nattering, so we’re going to cut here.
First group is Lin Meng (Team Wallace), Teng Zai (Team Lay), Bing - of the infamous motorbike flirtation - and Dian Men (both Team Yibo), along with a dude we haven’t actually seen yet, Tang Qian (also Team Yibo). Your lack of even B-roll so far is concerning re: your chances in this competition, Tang Qian. I’m just sayin’. Anyway, this is a powerhouse group, and at least Lin Meng and Teng Zai are familiar with each other because they’re from the same crew, and Xiao Bao remarks from the audience of contestants that these guys are going to go through, no matter what. They’re going to do a totally popping routine. My sound drops out at the beginning which … yeah, makes them look even more like a boyband at the beginning, in their matching baseball uniform shirts. So, here’s the thing, they’re a little muddled, they don’t move smoothly around each other on stage - their dance moves are coordinated, but they’re not moving in space like a group that understands each other. (Somewhere in here, my sound comes back, and Yibo already can’t hold still to the music.) The other thing is, though - all of these guys are very good at what they do, they finally hit their stride a minute or so in, and when they do, they hit it hard. I’m frankly surprised they don’t get passed right through to the next round, but Jackson abstains on the vote, and when called upon to explain himself, it turns out he just wants to see them battle. I can understand the impulse, Jackson, but this is already super stressful on all the dancers, and it doesn’t escape my notice that you’re the only one of the four captains without a dog in this particular fight, so a little bit you look like you’re doing this just because you can. Remember this, because it will set a bad example for an 11th -hour vote. Anyway, there’s the chance for a callout, which no one takes because the entire audience is convinced this group is too good to beat. Five of 60 seats taken.
Group two is Shen Kai Xiang – the Jack Ma lookin’ dude. He’s flying solo. He gets to stand around uncomfortably for a while onstage while Special Guest Huang Bo does A Bit making fun of all of the captains’ speech patterns and accents and pronunciation, except Yibo’s, because Yibo apparently never talks. Ha ha. (I’m also wondering if there’s some socio-cultural stuff underlying some of this that I’m not cued in enough to fully understand.) Huang Bo then tells the contestant that Jackson has probably fucked him over by praising him too effusively (he came from Jackson’s team, and Jackson already is displaying a tendency to rhapsodize about how everything is “ART”), so all the captains now will have inflated expectations that Shen Kai Xiang is surely only going to fail to meet. I’m beginning to suspect that Huang Bo’s Special Guest Superpower is not “lifesaver” but “kind of annoying asshole.” Maybe it’s to take that particular spotlight off of Chick. ANYWAY, Shen Kai Xiang FINALLY gets to perform, and he gets a little bit of a slow start, but he packs in a lot of elements and gets a LOT of good air in his moves once he gets wound up. He’s lyrical and super emo about it. I’m kind of “eh” on him – technically, he’s good, but I’m not particularly connecting with him, which I’m willing to admit could be a me thing, as everyone else seems super-impressed. Three captains pass him through. Yibo does not and explains this decision as personal preference – he likes more “underground” styles, more battle styles. Huang Bo brings back the issue of too-high expectations to help explain why Shen Kai Xiang isn’t being passed directly to the next round, even though Yibo just explained his decision and that is literally not the reason he explicitly gave. Anyway, Shen Kai Xiang gets no call outs, which seems to surprise Yibo, and we’re at six of 60 seats taken.
In quick succession, we move through Liang Hua Jie – we don’t see much of him, but we learn that while Wallace likes his musicality, Yibo doesn’t like his face (OK, doesn’t like his facial expressions, which, what can I say? I get this. If I’d had the power to unilaterally send home Lacey Schwimmer on her season of SYTYCD, I’d have done it, that’s how fucking annoying I found the way she’d mug for the camera the entire time she danced. Like I couldn’t even watch her dancing, because I was too distracted by what she was doing with her FACE the whole time.); Jian De Chao (wait, is this Chao from the first episode?) & Chen Zui – who, from what we get to see of them have some good flow and move pretty well together, but can get a little bit mushy in their moves, and Yibo likes their skills, but Lay thinks they don’t feel like a group, which what? Incorrect; and a group that’s dubbed themselves Purple Storm Show, which includes Alex from Jackson’s team and four other people who I can’t even catch – we barely see their performance, and Lay likes them, but Jackson thinks they’re flat. I can’t tell if any or all of these guys were sent through to the next round or sent home, but if they didn’t make it, then  :(  because I liked Alex, and he got hit in the eye for this, he deserves better than to get sent home because his team can’t get it together. We still have no group that’s been passed through by all four captains.
And then, next up is another powerhouse team: Gongsu Wu Ming and Hei Zai (Team Lay), George and Xiao Ming (Team Wallace), and (Xiao) Bai (Team Jackson). Yibo is skeptical about an all B-boy group, and don’t make me fight you, Yibo, because an all B-boy group is like my dream come true (sorry, poppers; sorry, lockers; my heart truly belongs to the B-boys, they are my favorite). We learn they added a flip at the last minute – an assisted flip, with a couple of them flinging George into the air over the other two of them. Wu Ming thinks that George is the only one of all the competitors who could do it, but George – who has a little more skin in the game than anyone else, as the guy who could potentially land on his head wrong - is a bit concerned about whether they’re going to pull it off. They start, and they’re all good, a little bit muddled before they hit their stride, but the slo-mo cartwheel is great, and from there, they’re off and running. This is why I like the B-boys – I know it takes a lot out of you to do this, but there is nothing – nothing – like the magnetic energy they can generate when they’re in their performance headspace and everything is flowing. This is a performance, and Wu Ming has talked a little bit about wanting to step up breaking, and if this is the sort of thing he wants to do, I’m all for it – give him the platform now. I’m going to take just a minute to single out Bai and say that he’s better when he’s not doing A Bit like he did in his initial performance for Lay Zhang – he’s much more electric here, and someone else’s choreography may make the difference. Jackson, Yibo, Lay – they’re all out of their seats, none of them can hold still in the face of this. We get to the end, and unfortunately, everyone else is kind of cluttered and mushy moving into position for the flip – that is not a way to go out guys, DO NOT DO THAT at the last minute – but then George f’kn NAILS the flip, so that’s thankfully the last impression they leave. The captain’s faces are a picture. (Except Wallace, who’s suddenly too cool to give us anything, apparently.) FIRST ALL-PASS. George’s assessment: “Not bad.” OK, Mr. Cool Guy. They also cut in a post-interview bit with Bai about the performance, and he notes that they all know each other, they’ve been battling each other for like, a decade, now. Dance together more, guys.
Moving on, we fortunately have another very strong group to follow them: Gai Gai, Wang Tao and Huang Xiao, all from Jackson’s team, and you can tell he badly, badly wants to start in on the ART! bit but he (loudly) keeps his mouth shut about this group until after the performance. The only one of these three we’ve seen so far this season has been Gai Gai, but they all dance in the same group together, and they seem to be well-known by a lot of the other competitors, particularly Huang Xiao, both as a dancer and a choreographer. They say they’re doing jazz, although I’d be more likely to call this contemporary, if I was going to put them in a box. They are gorgeous – lyrical, fantastic dance vocabulary, amazing choreography, beautiful musicality, and the way they move together as a unit is … :chef’s kiss:  I think Huang Xiao may be the best of the three, technically, but there’s something ineffably charismatic about Gai Gai that’s pulling focus a bit – just a bit – more than the other two in this performance. If there’s a weak link, it’s Wang Tao, and really, that’s only by comparison with the other two, which is a really high bar. We get some shots of the audience of competitors worrying about Yibo’s reaction, given his preference for the old-school battle dancers and an apparent “strictness” with urban dancers and related genres, but these three also get an All-Pass to the next round, and Yibo talks to them a little bit about the choreography and his (complimentary) reactions to the performance before they leave the stage.
And then. Oh, dear. Then we get a group of three – Da Mao, A Li and Tall(? Maybe? It looked like he was going to get out of this anonymously – probably lucky for him – but then the subtitles threw up this name on him at the last minute) – who are the only krumpers who’ve made it this far. Lay Zhang is really promoting them, because he really wants to see a bigger krump presence, and he’s really nervous about their performance, and he really, really should not have pinned his hopes on these three, because I hate to say it but they are a hot fk’n mess. They are … not good. I can’t believe any of the three made it this far, and in fact, we learn after their performance, while everyone is sitting in a kind of stunned horror (and y’all, I am not exaggerating for effect there), that Yibo did not pass A Li on from his team, that she got one of Lay Zhang’s final extra battle towels. I mean, there’s an obvious gap in the quality of this performance compared to everyone else we’ve seen. There’s also a lot of pacing around and standing around instead of dancing. They’re trying for the attitude, but they’re not managing it. They do manage to get an embarrassed reaction from Chick, which says something all on its own, as I wasn’t aware that he had any shame. Other competitors also are doing the embarrassment-squick cringe in the audience. Lay Zhang is literally hiding behind his clipboard. This is the first All-Out we get, where they’re directly eliminated – not even Lay can bring himself to vote “yes” on them. Now, all the krumpers are gone, and Lay is visibly sad and frustrated, but as we appear to move to a little bit of a break, Yibo displays the most emotional intelligence of anyone there and asks Lay to teach him how to krump, to distract him and get him actually doing the dancing he enjoys for a little bit. It’s also a chance for Yibo to learn a new thing, and he talks about his chance to improve in a little interview bit from later on that’s cut in here. I mean, yes, that actually was kind of a sad attempt at krump during the cypher, my dude, so this can only help you, but you also are being an extremely good guy, giving your fellow captain some emotional support right now. Thumbs up.
Next up, we have AK Dong (Team Wallace), also flying solo, and they give us a little heart-tugging B-roll about how he doesn’t have a team with him there, so he’s going it alone. He’s fantastic right out of the gate - good musicality, clean and precise, and he’s got a nice texture to his performance, it feels … full even though it doesn’t feel as big and expansive as some of the other dancers. Unfortunately, Lay doesn’t agree with me (incorrect), says he wants a performance that’s more elegant and “balanced,” and is the single holdout vote, which opens my dude up to a call-out challenge. This is the guy who looks like comedian Hank Chen, which has overshadowed his dancing twice now, because he had to listen to it from Haung Bo when he came out to dance, and he CANNOT catch a break, because now he gets challenged by three teams, including Bouboo’s team, which also includes Klash, Bullet and Colin (all Team Yibo), plus Boris (Team Lay), who we’ve only seen B-roll of so far although he speaks good Chinese, despite being from … I’m not sure where, but not China? AK Dong complains about how Boris looks at him with innocent eyes and tells him that they have no option other than to challenge, which is true (ETA: insofar as we know at this point), because they’re #36, and the 60 slots would almost certainly fill up before they even get a chance to dance. This team wins the bottle spin against the other two challengers, and I mean. :hands: This is a slaughter. They’re five-on-one, and they’re all really good at what they do, they make it look effortless, and AK Dong’s face is going to kill me. Wallace actually does vote for him, but the other three vote for the team, and that’s five more seats filled, and AK Dong eliminated, and I’m annoyed (although not as much as I’m gonna be) because I liked him, and I would have liked for him to get a chance to dance without having to listen to the Hank Chen nonsense at least once.
Next, we have Li Yue & Sha Sha, who appear to dance together on the regular. They have a kind of sultry number put together as the Green Snake and the White Snake that is … hm. I don’t know if we’re classifying this as urban or jazz for the purposes of the show, but it’s another piece that fits more into my contemporary box, if we were classifying them for most of the Western dance spaces I’ve seen. They’re good, as befits this stage of the competition, but a little inconsistent, technically. Also, I don’t find them particularly exciting to watch – I feel like something’s missing, although I can’t quite put my finger on what. I’m not sure their flow is consistent, and they’re probably not helped by following Gai Gai, Huang Xiao and Wang Tao. They get three yes votes from Lay, Yibo and Jackson, although they are … enough to maybe make Yibo a slight bit uncomfortable, being the shy and fragile homosocial forest creature that he may be, or that he may be getting edited as, who knows. Huang Bo pokes at Lay Zhang about his reaction to and vote for them. He also basically says that Wallace didn’t vote for them because Wallace wasn’t turned on by them, because Wallace is still doing his imperturbable cool-as-a-cucumber routine. Wallace’s hold-out vote opens them up to a call-out, and several groups come down to challenge, including – bad luck for Li Yue and Sha Sha – TI, who win the bottle spin. This group includes choreographer Zheng Jian Peng, as well as Su Lianya, who I didn’t realize was a TI member, both Team Wallace, along with … oh my god, Wei Ming, who’s the “Sir, what are you doing?” guy from Episode 2 when Wallace was giving out towels to poppers like candy, and I’m kind of pleased he’s made it this far, just based on that moment, alone, never mind any dancing skills. Rounding out the group are Long Long and Wei Lin, both from Team Yibo, and I think we got B-roll of Wei Lin at some point during Yibo’s eliminations in the first couple of eps. I know nothing about Long Long at this point. At any rate, everybody in this group is so good, I can finally see how they got their rep – fantastic musicality, and a great job of working as a unit. They feel like a team, even when they don’t manage to be quiiiiite synchronized. I’m not really feeling their costumes. Su Lianya continues to be a standout, even in a group that sets the bar this high. Wallace’s composure finally breaks when the other team captains evince interest in poaching her, and oh my god, he still has the hair elastic that he held for her at her initial performance, that they said would be a token of their vow to go all the way in the competition together. OK, I give Wallace a lot of shit, but this is actually kind of adorable. He literally pulls it out of his pocket to tell the other captains they can’t have her and to plead with her to remember their promise to each other. TI gets three votes and moves on. (Lay, still apparently captivated by the snake ladies although not enough to bald-facedly vote for them in the wake of TI’s performance, abstains.)
Next up are Tao and CiCi, and OK. I’m going to be honest here. I think they’re leveraging the “couple” schtick for all it’s worth, and good for them, it looks like they can pull it off, because I think some of the amazed reaction we get from the captains and from the audience is influenced a lot by their coupleness, but at the same time, I think some of the amazed reaction we get from the captains and from the audience is actually influenced by their coupleness rather than their dancing. I mean, Su Lianya and Wei Lin are in the audience of competitors clutching each other’s hands and crying, and it seems to be just as much about Tao telling CiCi out loud that he loves her just before the music starts and the fact that they kiss as part of the piece, if not more than it’s about their actual dancing. The show is also really pushing me on this, because whereas, with everyone else, it tosses up closed captions that tell me what moves are happening (in addition to dialogue subs), now I’m getting things like “heaven-made match.” They’re good, but I think they actually also suffer a bit from following the Gai Gai/Huang Xiao/Wang Tao powerhouse, because I think we’re unlikely to get anything on the lyrical side of things that’s going to match up to that for the rest of the day. Tao and CiCi are better than Li Yue and Sha Sha were, and it is pretty badass the way she manages to make herself so small and compact she literally disappears behind him for that last little bit, and if they’d won the bottle spin on the last callout, they would have won the challenge, I have no doubt. But. :hands: I think the show has actually done that thing Huang Bo accused Jackson of earlier and set my expectations too high. I’m’a sound like Yibo – or like Yibo normally would, because he also seems to get suckered into the overwhelmed reaction for this – and say that I think Tao was better in the less lyrical style when he danced with Yibo and Bing in the Ep 2 towel battle. They get an All-Pass from the captains and talk about their inspiration for the piece, which apparently is a couple who confessed their love to each other the day before the girl had to go into COVID quarantine, and well, now I guess I feel like just a little bit of an asshole for not appreciating the COVID love story properly? Anyway, the captains then keep asking them intrusive questions about their relationship, and Huang Bo mocks Lay for apparently never being in love so he won’t understand what it’s like, and I’m cringing in my seat a little before Jackson gets us back on track and Tao and CiCi finally go sit down.
Then Huang Bo takes the chance to go over to the contestants who haven’t performed yet and stress them out about how few of the 60 available seats are left. I mean, I guess it’s part of competition, but come on, dude.
ANYWAY, next up, we have a group calling themselves Team Wake Up – it’s the waackers, and this group includes Xiao Bao and San Jin from Team Lay, along with a guy we haven’t seen yet, Tu Zi; Meng Di from Team Yibo; and Gao Shi Yu, who we also haven’t seen, from Team Wallace. They start working it, and I’m like, oh wait … and then they hit the Cat Walk, and I’m like, oh shit, and a light bulb finally goes off, because I’ve been super-fk’n slow, but now they’ve shown me what this genre is about, and I’m interested to see what they do here, because a lot of this performance could be straight off the floors of the ball scene. The entire group is pretty good, although I do think Gao Shi Yu is the weak link, she’s not quiiiiite up to the standard of the rest of them. They move well as a group, though, good coordination, sharp and clean, fantastic musicality, high energy all the way through, with EXCELLENT attitude, which is half the battle, because if you’re not confident for this kind of thing – or if you can’t at least fake it flawlessly – you might as well not even be out there. They all do lose a little bit of focus when they’re in the background as they break out for their individual moves, and they fall apart a tiny bit near the end. Also, Meng Di’s belt is off-center, and I know that sounds super picky, but it kept distracting me, so I wish that hadn’t been the case. Xiao Bao is definitely still the standout here – he takes the lead from the minute they come out, with the mic, and never really relinquishes it. We finally get to see San Jin perform, and his extension could be better. Tu Zi must be lacking in the charisma department to not have shown up before this, because he’s better than I expected. Before they started, the group that Xiao Jie and Yang Kai are in together – who still haven’t performed – were debating if they should challenge this group, but Xiao Jie advised waiting to see how good they were, and then after the performance is all, “nooo, we should not challenge,” and props to you for not just writing off the waackers, my man, because they get an All-Pass, and there’s not even a chance for a callout. Before we move on, Wallace clams he’s learned some waacking during the show, and the other captains (led by Jackson, who calls him gege) make him demonstrate, and the contestants, who know what side their bread is buttered on, applaud.
Available seat check. Yibo participates in further stressing out the contestants by saying “Like, a dozen?” All y’all need to be challenging whatever chance you get. Now I bet you’re sorry you didn’t challenge Shen Kai Xiang back at the beginning, aren’t you?
Next up is our group of X-Crew representatives, hop-hop, and Yibo is excited. I almost expect him to do a little dance in his seat. Yang Kai helpfully lets me know that this group is from the top hip-hop crew in China. Oh, hey, that’s Qin Yu, from Team Wallace, the guy who Gongsu Wu Ming immediately recognized as the weak link in one of the towel battles and got up on; the guy who subsequently got taken out by Teng Zai, My Beloved. Qin Yu, the guy we hadn’t even had B-roll on, and still don’t. I wonder if I’m reading too much into that. He’s joined by Flea (which I’m assuming is a direct translation, as it doesn’t sound like “flea” when he says his name?) and Ding, also from Team Wallace - neither of whom we’ve seen before, I think - along with Ting and Lei Xiao Yang from Team Jackson. This is also the first time we’ve seen Lei Xiao Yang. I … feel weirdly unconfident about the famed X-Crew, given we haven’t seen more of them before this. Then again, we’d only seen Gai Gai from her group, so maybe this is a BigSurprise!edit … Ting comes out hard and heavy, and I actually think this is the best performance we’ve seen from her so far. She spends a lot of time out in front on this one, and I don’t think I got from her initial appearance or from her towel battle performances just how good she actually is. Overall though … I am … not that impressed with this group. They start out strong, but then they get sloppy. They have trouble working as a unit, which is surprising from people who supposedly have experience dancing together. They’re all very good, but they’re not synchronized. A lot of their solo showcase bits lack complexity, and that is an understatement. Qin Yu still has some of that nice fluidity along with his pretty face, but he’s not balanced, and he absolutely does not have the finesse he needs to pull this off. They all do move into the end strong, together again, hard, power behind their moves - almost everything from the slo-mo move is good - but … it’s a little late, y’all. That took way too long to get back together. And then, they inexplicably descend into … it’s not even sloppiness, it’s an utter hot mess during, like, the last 15 seconds of the performance, which is absolutely not the final impression you want to leave. And … wow. Shit. There are captains who actually agree with me on this. Sometimes you see the expected top dancers allowed to slide some in these early rounds of competition shows, but not this time – Wallace and Yibo both vote yes, but Jackson and Lay both abstain, and Jackson … wow. Wow. Is disappointed in them and expected more. Despite the fact that he’s like, 12, and that he’s done this to past groups just because he wanted to see them battle, a little bit this actually has a vague feeling of your dad telling you how much you’ve let him down. The audience is shocked, but I’m glad to hear someone say it. It was a good - if spotty - performance but certainly not the best we’ve seen.
So, we have a callout, and the group with Xiao Jie and Yang Kai, which also includes some guys named Shen Zi Hao, Xiao Zhi Bin and Oscar, pounces. And that is a very deliberate word choice, because these guys are on X-Crew like a lion on the trailing gazelle. They’re in their Men In Black suits (ETA: Wait, no, I think maybe they’re Agent Smith suits), and the audience of other competitors is losing it. Xiao Bao is very excited about Xiao Jie. Both Yibo and Jackson look like they’re in actual physical pain, to be forced to make the choice that’s coming up. Ting looks like she’s getting ready to throw up – she’s accepting this with less equanimity than she did the possible results of her initial performance, at least on the surface. I … am dreading losing her, actually, because I suspect that’s what’s getting ready to happen, and I am so so sorry, baby, that you worked so hard to carry your crew like that and they couldn’t keep their shit together. On the one hand, I’m impressed they’re pitting this level of competition against each other so early. On the other, I feel Jackson’s and Yibo’s pain. God. God. The Xiao Jie-Yang Kai group is here to f’kn battle. This is shaping up to be a slaughter. They are fast, clean, precise, great musicality, complex moves, super performance. They’re synchronized, high energy, fantastic animation – which could be a little cheesy, but they’re confident and fearless enough to pull it off - fun and interesting. They are maybe a little bit too gimmicky to be perfect for my taste, but I’m not the one voting them through, and what they’ve come up with is perfect for the audience that matters – the captains, the majority of which are 20-something-year-old boys – and knowing your audience, and performing for them, is a skill, too. BIGGEST (and frankly, only) ISSUE: Somebody fucked up a move, right at the beginning … I think maybe Yang Kai? (ETA: Yah, it was Yang Kai, ugh, what a time for that to happen.) If you’re going to fuck up, best to do it at the very beginning, I guess, and then give this performance afterward, to mitigate it as much as possible, but that one misstep gives the captains enough excuse put off a decision they really don’t want to make, like it’s not just going to make it worse to kick the can down the road a few minutes. Split vote, 2-2 (I thiiink, Yibo and Jackson for X-Crew, Lay and Wallace for the challengers?), which throws it to a further battle. Ting and Xiao Jie, one-on-one, and both of them are feeling the pressure of competing for their entire team instead of just themselves. Two rounds, hiphop and locking. So, each of them is better in their specialty. Ting’s got some fantastic, precise moves for the hiphop round. Xiao Jie is not as good in this round; I do notice he’s got a more directly confrontational style when he’s battling. I feel like she’s doing more waacking than locking in the locking round. Overall, she’s cleaner, more precise, he’s got a little bit more energy. I wouldn’t want to make this decision, frankly. I think Ting was better technically, but Xiao Jie might be the better performer – better at all that other stuff that adds up to stage presence. I do wonder how much of the captains’ decision is influenced by the groups, and who the captains are or aren’t willing to lose, even though it’s supposed to be based on this 1x1 battle. Just looking at who the show has put emphasis on already, we’ve got Ting vs. Xiao Jie AND Yang Kai, and I don’t know that they’re going to want to let that one-two punch go. Wallace votes Ting and X-Crew. Yibo and Lay vote Xiao Jie and the challengers. Jackson, the coward, abstains. Looks like Ting and X-Crew are going home, and this is the first cut that I’m genuinely upset about seeing. Ting feels bad for letting her crew down, but they let you down first, baby, or you wouldn’t even have been in that position.
Available seat check: 12. Dancers left: 27. Well.
We’re coming up on two hours now, and there’s clearly some kind of drama we want to get to, because we whip through the next few performances – few names, limited time spent on them. The ones who do make it through are likely cannon fodder in the next couple of rounds. There’s a group of four in khakis that gets sent through to the next round; Yibo liked their moves. Guy named Zhan Ke in a suit goes through to the next round. We’ve turned into a clip show now, and the screen literally says “ … ” at one point as each group of competitors gets 3 seconds of airtime. Cut to three seats left out of the 60. There’s about seven people left, and … that includes Chick. I have a sinking feeling this guy is going to be the real focus, at this point. He’s paired up with some dude named Long, and they have lost the bottle spin on callout after callout after callout, so they’ve never had a chance to challenge, and now, look at these morose motherfuckers, still sitting in the bleachers. I almost feel bad for them.
So, three seats left, and the next group is three people: Yang Qi aka “Apple” from Team Jackson, Lin from Team Lay and Bobo from Team Wallace. Urban dancers. I lose sound on them right at the beginning, but they’ve got some nice sharp moves, good choreography, they work well as a unit. Solid performance, if not the best we’ve seen. Apple’s got the best technique, I think. Audience likes them a lot. We get a cut to Chick and the other competitors who haven’t danced yet as we count down for the vote, and they are all dying. Three votes yes. Yibo abstains. Huang Bo is so prepared for this group to be sent right through that he starts clapping and congratulating them, and Yibo has to be all, “Wait, no. Not yet.” The captains give their reasoning: Jackson says that he felt their power, emotion, speed all deserved full marks. Yibo agrees.
Yibo agrees.
...
Their faces in response, y’all. Their little WTF faces as he explains that he really just wants to see the other dancers, too. Oh my god, Yibo. You can’t just say that out loud. Are you serious with this, you can’t even make up a thing to fake critique them on? Cut to a later interview with Bobo, who’s been the least able to school his face journey in response to this: “Wang Yibo, I won’t forget.” Also, Bobo says, you’re not even hot. (lol) Joking aside, the group goes on to make all the correct noises about sure, it’s a competition, you face competitors, it’s what happens, because what are you gonna say? Meanwhile, to be completely honest, I’m probably the person who’s been least able to school their face journey in response to this, because come on, Yibo. It’d be one thing if you were making some kind of statement about the way they set this up from the beginning, with all competitors unable to participate, but I’m pretty sure you’re actually doing this to give Chick another chance, because you have been inexplicably all up on his jock since he showed up, what is it about this guy? I don’t get it. At all.
So, we get a callout, and everyone left challenges, of course, because this is probably the last chance. The audience is rooting for Chick. I still don’t get it. Bottle spin ends up on … Zhao Hai Jie, from Team Wallace, who we’ve never yet seen perform. Here’s the thing: If he can win this battle, then he only takes one seat, leaving another two seats available. However, he is NOT going to win this battle, not without ripping off any figleaf of fair competition that the show may have, because he’s just not that great. If he wins, there’s no way around the fact, right in your face, that it’s a strategic vote. He does not win. Four votes for Apple, Lin and Bobo. Sixty seats filled.
HOWEVER, just in case you were worried there may be any integrity here, director Lu Wei comes ambling out to say, hey, you know those rules we have in place? Well, fuck ‘em. Who cares. Let everybody left battle, and whoever wins that battle can have a seat along with the 60 other people. I’m going to translate this one, because despite the limitations of my Level 1 Duolingo Mandarin, I have umpty SYTYCD episode reactions on my LJ and I feel like I’m pretty fluent in Dance Show BS: “We really want to keep somebody who’s left, so there’s going to be some chicanery on our part.” They really do not want Chick to go home, y’all. I know it’s him. It’s super extra obvious they’re desperately trying to save him, at this point. And I am here to tell you that if Chick ends up on this show and Ting goes home, there will be nothing on this earth that could possibly resurrect Chick from the Pit of My Dislike.
Anyway, we get Dai Dai from Team Lay, who describes herself as a fusion dancer and is pretty good for the first 40 seconds or so of her music and then completely loses the thread and kind of falls apart. The captains do not seem impressed. Possibly they also know we’re just killing time until we get to Chick. Up next is Su, who is Very Dramatic. He doesn’t say what team he’s from, but given Wallace’s reactions, I suspect he’s from Team Wallace. I suspect Yibo’s not going to like his face. His performance goes increasingly off the rails as he goes on. He’s got a lot of goodwill from the audience of competitors, but no. This is not a winning performance. And then we get Chick & Long, literally the last to perform. Chick spends the entire time doing A Bit. Long, who anyone barely remembers is even there, does 2/3+ of the dancing. Everyone – everyone – is apparently vastly entertained by Chick, and I just … :hands: Fine. He’s a character, but I have yet to see anything in three episodes, across, like, 7 hours, that lets me see whether he can really dance or not. Yibo literally tells Jackson, “He doesn’t have many tricks, but he’s got a ton of ideas” and later says he’s a B-boy without a power move. Anyway, one vote for Su (Wallace), three votes for Chick and Long. We’re at 62 dancers, and I cannot believe I’m going to be subjected to Chick’s continued clownery when Ting has to go home.
Thank GOD we’re activating the Special Guest Host Powers, the first of which is “REVIVE,” i.e., bring someone back who was eliminated. Yibo is immediately like, omg, the hip-hop group. Then we do Yet Another Bit where the captains cater to Huang Bo so that he’ll take their advice on who to revive, and it goes on too long when we are, my god, two hours and fourteen minutes into this. Meanwhile, Yibo reiterates, the hip-hop group. Yeah, Yibo, this I approve of - if I gotta watch you fall all over yourself over Chick, you need to get Ting back for me. So, we’re finally getting the captains’ actual recommendations: Jackson says the hip-hop group, possibly feeling bad about the fact that he’s the one who spiked their chance the first time around? Yibo is all, me too! Yes! That one! It’s kind of adorable. Also, yes, Yibo, you need to get Ting back for me. Lay says Li Yue and Sha Sha, the white and green snakes. Wallace recommends a popping group that I don’t even know if we saw perform? At any point in the past 7+ hours of three episodes? Wallace, are you high? Anyway, THANK GOD, Huang Bo brings back the X-Crew group. We’re at 67 dancers.
Second Special Guest Host Power is … “battle?” So, we’re setting up Qiang Qi Da Zhan, aka Seven to Smoke, which they’ve apparently done in past seasons? Each captain picks two people – eight total – to participate. Twenty minutes total. Increments of 30 seconds each to battle. And I guess you have to accumulate seven points in various battles. We don’t get to hear the captains’ picks, but I can see that AK Dong is called back for this one. Also, I spot one of the krumpers. (:eyeroll: Really, Lay? Because I know that was you.) We see some clips of this. We see AK Dong get to six points. He … maybe gets his seventh point? Anyway, he says in the last interview clip that he’s here. I guess we officially find out the Seven to Smoke results next ep?
Also next episode: Divided into two groups and battling by genre for the next elimination. Five rounds. Also looks like captains might get a chance to poach from other teams. Also some wacky fuckery with the dancers’ heads that looks like it’s going to be stomping all over my embarrassment squick, argh.
Finally, we get a peek at hotpot, and it sounds like they ended up with 70 dancers, so three people managed to get seven points in Seven to Smoke? And somebody’s mom is apparently coming to hotpot, but I’d have to watch the actual hotpot show to find out whose mom, and we’re out.

Motivational/Support Headcanons;
To start the year off with some positivity, I decided to write these up quick ! Note I am slightly tired, so I apologize for any errors or if they don’t make some sense LOL. Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!!! :D
__________________________
Aomine:
He considers everything a chore, to the point he’s willing to pay other people to do it if it means he can sleep. So the best way to motivate him is with pictures of you either nude, or in lingerie (If you try it on, he’ll make sure to buy it, regardless if you love it or not because it’s an excuse for you to have it.)
During his down days, when not even those things motivate him, you simply take a nap with him. You don’t ask him to talk about his problems. You just simply hold him to you, rubbing gentle circles on his head, until he decides to roll over and spoon you to him.
He’s always there to reward you after you’ve dealt with him during those ‘dark’ moments. He’ll either cook for you, (with Kagami’s help), take you to your favourite places, or give you a full body massage.. (Which ends up leading to something BOTH of you enjoy. So it becomes a reward for him just as much.)
At the end of it, he makes sure to show you he appreciates your care and concern. Even if it means doing chores around the house, taking time out to ACTUALLY study for exams, or attend practice if it means seeing you there to cheer him on.
Hyuuga:
Most of the time, Hyuuga will not show this side of himself. But he knows at some point, you catch on. (Whether it’s with Riko or Kiyoshi’s help, he’ll never know, and he never asks.)
Keeping him motivated is slightly tougher, because he’s so used to being the motivator for his team and friends... He always ends up running into a wall when he can’t keep himself together... And while he wants to help you help himself, he finds the words die on his throat each time.
So rather than ask him to explain the problem, or why he’s feeling down, you take him to the park to get some practice in. Even if it ends up with you injuring him by mistake.. (You’re not that good at basketball... But it seems to help him because he laughs to himself, before finding the energy to get up and teach you.)
Ultimately, if basketball doesn’t help, you’ll distract him with watching the entire Sengoku Basara series, and let him gush about his favourite characters and how relevant they are to him. (And if you dare, you’ll ask him to show a photo of him in blonde hair, if only to make him laugh and blush in embarrassment.)
Kagami:
When Kagami is in a funk, the best thing is to steer clear of him for a few days until he gives you a sign. You learned the hard way that he tends to shy away from problems, and he doesn’t want to bother you with his troubles.
After being quite blunt with him, you explain it’s your job and responsibility as his significant other to help him when he’s stuck. Especially if he makes the same time and effort to help you out. It’s equal give and take, and even if you have to remind him every time, you don’t mind if it means being let it.
It’s not in your nature to pry about someone’s issues, but you don’t let him deal with EVERYTHING alone. So you tend to surprise him by cooking him his favourite meal, (with the help of Tatsuya and Alex) and let him watch his NBA matches... (Sometimes, you’ll even suggest watching them without him having to ask, in which case, he thinks it’s a trap.)
You just want him to know that you’re there for him. And you don’t like seeing him brood by himself. Though you know he’s rather private about his life. Still, you make sure he knows you care, even if it means giving him some alone time to sort out his thoughts.
Kasamatsu:
When Kasamatsu is in a funk, YOU KNOW. It’s written all over his face. He lacks any sort of emotion, including kicking Kise when he’s being overly obnoxious. When it first happens, it leaves you baffled, because you’ve never seen him this down... To the point he studies alone, rather than with you, Kobori and Moriyama.
He generally keeps to himself, because he’s the captain. So he thinks if he can’t motivate his team, they can’t motivate him... Which of course, you think is the most ridiculous thing you’ve heard him say, and you call him out on it. (What kind of mentality is that??)
You tend to remind him it’s not ALL on him, and he can lean on the closest people to him. And sometimes it causes a fight to happen, because he doesn’t want to burden others with his issues.. But you have to knock some sense into him.. So you usually challenge him to a one-on-one... And while he wins majority of them, it seems to do the trick and gets him talking about whatever issue is on his mind.
At first, he’ll blush because he essentially spills his guts to you, (even though you’ve reassured him it’s OKAY) and when he sees you still there, he lets out a sigh of relief.. (because he was worried he pushed you away.) But you assure him he could never do such a thing, and you end up hugging him, eliciting a blush from his cheeks... He’ll never admit out loud it’s comforting to have your hugs, BUT he’ll return them with as much love and affection as you give, if only to let you know he truly appreciates your support.
Kise:
Kise isn’t afraid to show when he’s in a mood/unmotivated.. He tends to put more effort into his work as a model than any other aspect of his life. He becomes a stranger in those times, because he doesn’t know how to handle it, and all he remembers is how work took away some of the ache during his Teiko days. (Not all, but some.)
Of course you don’t like when he comes home rather late, and he doesn’t greet you. Rather, he acts as if you don’t exist, and it not only irritates you, but it just outright hurts... It’s a stab to your heart because this stranger is NOT the man you fell in love with. But of course, your love for him motivates you to get to the bottom of the problem..
With Kise, it’s easy to get him to talk, because he wants the attention on him. But he doesn’t know how to outright ask for what he wants. (at least from you. It’s easy to ask for the attention from strangers. But you’re on a whole different level, and while he craves your attention the most, he finds it’s the hardest to ask for.)
So the best way to help him, is to let him vent. Even if it involves joining him at work and doing some modelling with him. If his work environment has him feeling more comfortable and safe, you’re willing to meet him there to get him to talk.. And you don’t mind trying on some of the clothing.. (You could do without some of the makeup... But you find the hair styling and the clothes are something you can see yourself doing for fun..) Not only do you show up at his work, you have his favourite ice cream in hand, and give him a loving kiss, if only to tell him everything is okay.
