I know tag wranglers do a lot of work connecting tags etc. Is there anything authors can do to make their jobs easier for them like trying to mostly use canonical tags or not making tag comments?
Thanks!
This is a great question, and I'll do my best to answer it but I do hope that some wranglers add on in the notes! I'm also just going to preface this with the fact that you should still tag however you like to tag. This list isn't meant to be a checklist or anything. It's just info I've picked up over the years and you can take or leave each piece as you see fit.
Okay, so the first thing that most non-wranglers should know is that wranglers see tags separately from the fic. They get a big bin full of tags to sort through and match up in the system, but they'll only see your fic and the other tags you've added to it if they decide to go look.
That's important to know because sometimes a user will tag something like [character] is so sexy and then also tag by which I mean they're a huge dork. The wranlger won't see that second tag and won't know that they're connected so your sarcastic tag will end up synned (matched up to) sexy!Character or whatever the canonical is, as if that was the meaning you were going for.
Another good thing to know is that tags can only be synned if they only have 1 idea in them. So if you tag, say, [character] is gay and autistic then the wrangler can't actually syn that to either [character] is gay or character is autistic because it only half-fits either tag. To have them synned in the database, you would need to tag those two ideas separately.
You might have already seen the post I made referencing the fact that you don't have to tag multiple versions of the same idea (unless you want to for the aesthetic) because the synning that wranglers do makes sure that tagging one idea allows users to filter for all versions of that idea. But in case you didn't know that, now you do!
Wranglers are often members of the fandoms they wrangle, but they aren't always. Sometimes they'll take on a fandom that doesn't otherwise have a wrangler because they like to do research or because they like small fandoms or for many other reasons. But that means that if you're tagging your OCs by name, you should add (OC) to the end so that they know it's not a canon character that they aren't familiar with. This is double true in huge fandoms like Star Wars where there are millions of canon characters and just as many OCs.
Wranglers don't "seed" tags in fandoms. For a tag to exist, users need to create it. The rule of thumb is at least 3 fics from 3 separate authors, but that's very much the minimum and in fast-moving or huge fandoms the bar is probably higher. Also, for brand new fandoms, it's entirely possible that they won't know you exist until you tell them. Back in January I was the first person to write in a brand new fandom so I knew I had to start the tags, and I waited until there were 25 or so works by 15 or so creators before I emailed Support because I know I have to be patient - but I'm still impatient by nature lol.
Another thing to know is that tags are kind of like proton packs - they can't cross the streams. If you put a tag in the Character field by mistake, wranglers can't move it to the Additionals. This can also work in your favour, though, because if you have a minor character or minor relationship that you want to tag because there's some kind of fandom drama happening and people want to be able to avoid them, you can tag them in the Additional Tags so that people can know they're in there, but the people who like that character or ship can still filter the Character and Relationship tags without seeing a bunch of works that don't really focus on them.
This got super long, so I'll end with your question about tag comments. I know people worry that it makes extra work for tag wranglers if you get all chatty in your fic tags but I've been reassured by more than one wrangler over the course of several years now that it's no extra work. They just shovel those tags into the gaping maw of the Unfilterable Beast - which is the same thing they do with those tags that have multiple concepts in them. If it can't be synned, then that's where they go.
(keep tagging that way, though, if you like to because that's how new concepts get created and eventually canonized)
Alright, I that's all I can think of off the top of my head, and the list was actually longer than I thought! Wranglers: please do add on with other things you wish users knew, and please correct me if anything has changed since the last time I delved into this topic!
Editing to add: a wrangler pointed out in the tags that [character] is autistic and gay can itself become a single tag if enough people use it. That's true of other tags with multiple meanings as well. They just can't be synned with existing tags in the meantime.

The first time Bucky Barnes sees you, you're trying to shove a couch through a doorway that's at least six inches too narrow, and losing spectacularly.
He's coming home from another pointless congressional hearingâthe kind where everyone talks in circles about defense budgets while carefully not mentioning the alien invasion from three months agoâwhen he spots you in the hallway. You're wedged between the arm of what looks like a vintage velvet monstrosity and the doorframe of 4B, hair escaping from whatever you'd tried to contain it with, muttering a stream of increasingly creative profanity.
"Fuckingâcome onâyou absolute bastard of aâ"
The couch shifts. You yelp. Bucky's halfway down the hall before he realizes he's moving.
"Need a hand?"
You twist around, and something in his chest does this stupid, inconvenient flip. Your face is flushed, one cheek smudged with what might be dust or maybe yesterday's mascara, and you're looking at him likeâwell. Like he's not Bucky Barnes. Like he's just some guy in the hallway who might know how geometry works.
"Oh thank god," you breathe, and the relief in it makes his mouth twitch. "I've been battling this thing for twenty minutes. I think it's winning."
He assesses the situation with the same tactical precision he'd use for a Bulgarian arms deal, if arms deals came upholstered in emerald green and smelled faintly of vanilla perfume mixed with fresh sweat. The angle's all wrong. You've been trying to force it through horizontally when it needs to go vertical, then rotate.
"Here." He steps closer, and you shift to make room, your shoulder brushing his chest in a way that absolutely doesn't make his pulse stutter. "If we flip itâ"
"Oh, you're strong," you say, like an observation about the weather, as he essentially deadlifts one end of your couch. The metal arm whirs faintly. You don't flinch. "That's convenient."
Convenient. Right. He maneuvers the couch through the doorway in three efficient moves, trying not to notice how you smell like coffee and something floral, how you hover just inside his peripheral vision like you're trying not to crowd him but can't quite stay away.
"There." He sets it down in what's clearly the only spot it could go in your tiny living room. The space is chaosâboxes everywhere, art leaning against walls, books stacked in precarious towers. "You just moving in?"
"Yeah, fromâ" You wave a hand vaguely eastward. "Nicer neighborhood. Turns out freelance graphic design doesn't pay for Manhattan rent. Who knew?" The self-deprecation comes with a grin that transforms your whole face, and Bucky has to look away, focus on the box labeled 'KITCHEN SHIT' in aggressive Sharpie. "I'mâwell, you probably don't care what my name is."
He does, actually. Cares in a way that makes his teeth ache.
"Bucky," he offers, even though you clearly already know. "4C."
"The grumpy congressman." Your grin goes wider, teasing. "I've seen you on C-SPAN. You look like you're being held at gunpoint during those hearings."
"Feel like it too," he mutters, and the laugh you give him hits like a shot of whiskeyâwarm and slightly dizzying.
"Well, Congressman Barnes of apartment 4C, you've just saved my Saturday. Can I pay you in beer? I've gotâ" You dig through a box, emerge triumphant with two bottles. "Hipster IPA or hipster IPA?"
He should say no. Should maintain boundaries. Should remember what happened the last time he let someone get closeâthe scar on his ribs from Belgrade still aches when it rains.
Instead, he finds himself accepting a bottle, listening to you chatter about the neighbor who warned you about the rats (definitely real) and the ghost (probably not real but who knows), watching how you gesture with your whole body when you talk, like you're too much for your own skin.
It's dangerous, how easy you are to be around. How you look at him like he's just Bucky, not the former Asset, not the killer, not the congressman who can't pass a single fucking bill. Just a guy who helped with your couch.
He stays too long. Drinks two beers. Helps you unpack exactly three boxes before some long-dormant self-preservation instinct kicks in and he makes excuses about constituent emails.
"Thanks again," you say at the door, and there's something in your eyesâcuriosity, maybe. Interest. "For the couch. And the company."
"No problem."
He's halfway to his own door when you call out: "Hey, Barnes?"
He turns. You're leaning against your doorframe, backlit by the disaster zone of your apartment, smiling that smile that makes his chest tight.
"I make really good coffee. You know. If congressional hearings ever drive you to caffeine dependency."
It's an offer. An opening. Everything in him screams to close it, lock it down, maintain operational security. Instead, his traitorous mouth says, "I'll keep that in mind."
He's so fucked.
The thing is, Bucky's gotten good at keeping people at arm's length. Seventy years of being a weapon teaches him that distance equals safetyâfor them, not him.
When you're already dead, what's a little more damage?
So he shouldn't notice when you start leaving your apartment at 7:23 every morning, shouldering a bag that's always slipping off your shoulder. Shouldn't time his own exits to avoid those encounters, then feel like an asshole when he succeeds. Definitely shouldn't lie awake listening through the thin walls as you sing along to whatever pop music you play while cooking, off-key and enthusiastic.
But here's the other thing: you make it really fucking hard to maintain distance.
You leave cookies outside his door with notes that say things like "for emergency constituent-induced rage" and "survival fuel for C-SPAN." You knock when you know he's home, ask to borrow sugar or vodka or a screwdriver, then stay to chat like his apartment isn't just bare walls and a couch Sam made him buy. You touchâcasual, constant. A hand on his arm when you laugh, fingers brushing when you hand him things, like physical contact isn't something that makes his brain static out.
"You're a really good listener," you tell him one evening, three weeks into whatever this is. You're sitting on his floor, back against his couch, because you'd knocked asking for wine and then somehow ended up staying. Your knee presses against his thigh. He's catastrophically aware of every point of contact. "Like, actually good. Not just waiting for your turn to talk."
"Not much of a talker," he says, which is true and also easier than explaining that he's memorizing everythingâhow you twist your rings when you're nervous, the way your voice drops when you're saying something real, how you look in his space like you belong there.
"Bullshit." You bump his shoulder. He doesn't flinch anymore, which is either progress or a sign he's completely fucked. "You're just selective. Quality over quantity."
You say things like thatâobservations that feel like being seen, really seen, not just looked at. It's terrifying. It's addictive. It's going to get you killed.
Because here's the thing Bucky knows down to his bones: everything he touches turns to ash. Everyone he cares about becomes a target. And youâwith your sunshine laugh and your disaster apartment and your way of looking at him like he's worth somethingâyou're exactly the kind of light that attracts the worst kind of dark.
He should stay away.
He doesn't.
"So," Sam says, watching Bucky check his phone for the third time during their coffee meeting. "Who is she?"
"What?" Bucky pockets the phone. You'd texted asking if he knew how to fix a leaky faucet. He knows seventeen ways to kill a man with a faucet. Fixing one can't be that different. "Nobody. Work thing."
"Uh-huh." Sam's doing that face, the one that means he's about to be insufferably perceptive. "That's why you just smiled at your phone. Over a work thing. You. Smiled."
"I smile."
"No, you do this thing with your mouth that's like a smile's evil twin. This was an actual smile. So. Who is she?"
Bucky takes a long drink of coffee, considering how much lying is worth the effort. "Neighbor."
"Neighbor." Sam leans back, grinning. "Cute neighbor?"
The memory of you last night, paint in your hair and gesturing wildly about your latest client, flashes unbidden. His silence is apparently answer enough.
"Buck. Man. This is good. You needâ"
"I need to not get people killed," Bucky cuts him off. "I need to remember that anyone who gets close to me ends up hurt. I needâ"
"You need a life," Sam interrupts right back. "You need to stop punishing yourself for shit that wasn't your fault. You need to let yourself have something good."
Bucky's jaw works. The phone buzzes again. He doesn't check it.
"She doesn't know what she's getting into," he says finally. "She'sâ" Bright. Warm. Good. "She's not part of this world."
"So keep her out of it." Sam makes it sound simple. Like there's a way to compartmentalize, to have you without putting you at risk. "Be her neighbor. Be normal. Be happy, for once in your goddamn life."
Normal. Right. Because nothing says normal like a centenarian ex-assassin with more kills than most armies and a metal arm that could crush a skull like an egg.
But then he thinks about your smile when he fixed your garbage disposal last week. How you'd said "my hero" in this teasing, fond way that made him want impossible things. How you treat him like he's just Bucky, not a weapon someone else aimed.
"I don't know how," he admits, quieter than he meant to.
Sam's expression softens. "Nobody does, man. You just try anyway."
The faucet thing turns into a whole production.
You answer the door in tiny pajama shorts and an oversized t-shirt that says "FEMINIST KILLJOY" in glitter letters, and Bucky's brain shorts out for a solid three seconds. Your hair's piled on top of your head in what might generously be called a bun, and there's toothpaste at the corner of your mouth, and he wants toâ
"Oh good, you're here," you say, grabbing his arm and pulling him inside. Your fingers are warm through his henley. "It's making this noise like a dying whale. I tried YouTube tutorials but I think I made it worse."
The kitchen is a disaster. Tools scattered everywhere, water pooling on the floor, YouTube still playing on your laptop ("âsure to turn off the water main firstâ"). You've clearly been at this for a while.
"Did you turn off the water?" he asks, already knowing the answer from the growing puddle.
"I turned off a valve," you say defensively. "Several valves. None of them seemed to be the right valve."
He finds himself fighting a smile as he locates the actual shut-off. You hover behind him as he works, close enough that he can feel your breath on his neck, keeping up a running commentary that's part apology, part stand-up routine.
"âand then the wrench slipped and I maybe screamed a little bit, and Mrs. Nguyen next door started banging on the wall, and I had to yell that I wasn't being murdered, just defeating by plumbingâ"
"Hand me theâ" He turns to ask for the wrench at the same moment you lean forward to see what he's doing. Your faces end up inches apart. Time does that thing where it forgets how to work properly.
Your eyes are very wide. There's a water droplet on your cheek. Bucky's hand twitches with the urge to wipe it away.
"Wrench," he manages, voice rougher than intended.
"Right. Wrench. That's aâ" You scramble backward, nearly slip on the wet floor. He catches your elbow automatically, steadying you, and your skin is so warm under his fingers it feels like a brand. "Thanks. I'm not usually this much of a disaster. Actually, that's a lie. I'm exactly this much of a disaster, you've just caught me on a particularly disastrous day."
He fixes the faucet in under ten minutes. You insist on making coffee as payment, which turns into leftover pizza, which turns into three hours on your couch watching some reality show about people making elaborate cakes. You provide running commentary that's funnier than the show itself, and Bucky finds himself actually laughingânot the dry chuckle he's perfected for public appearances, but real laughter that comes from somewhere deep in his chest.
"See?" you say during a commercial break, grinning at him. "I told you this show was addictive. Next week they're making a life-size dragon cake that actually breathes fire."
"Next week?" The words slip out before he can stop them, too revealing.
Your grin softens into something else, something that makes his chest tight. "Well, yeah. You can't miss fire-breathing dragon cake. That's un-American."
It becomes a thing. Thursday nights, your couch, increasingly ridiculous cooking shows. You always have too much dinner ("I'm terrible at portions, shut up"), he always fixes something that's broken ("it's not broken, it's just temperamental"), and somewhere between cake disasters and your laughter, Bucky forgets to maintain distance.
"Your boyfriend's here," Mrs. Nguyen announces loudly when Bucky knocks on your door a month later, because apparently the entire floor has decided they're invested in whatever this is.
"He's not myâ" Your voice cuts off as you open the door. You're wearing a dress, which is new. Red, which is newer. Lipstick, which is going to kill him. "Hi."
"Hi." His brain's stuck on the curve of your shoulder, the way the fabric clings. "Going out?"
"Wedding. Old college friend." You're fidgeting with your earring, a sure tell that you're nervous. "I hate weddings. All that optimism and overpriced chicken."
"So don't go."
"Can't. I already RSVP'd, and I'm a good friend even if I'm a wedding-hating gremlin." You pause, still fiddling with the earring. "Unless..."
He knows what's coming by the way you're biting your lip. "No."
"You don't even know what I was going to ask!"
"You were going to ask me to go with you."
"...okay, so you did know." You lean against the doorframe, giving him a look that's probably supposed to be convincing but mostly just highlights how your eyes catch the hallway light. "Come on. You're a congressman. You must love overpriced chicken and small talk."
"I really don't."
"There's an open bar."
"Still no."
"I'll owe you one. One big favor. Anything."
That makes him pause, but not for the reason you think. The idea of you owing him anything makes his skin itch. You already give too muchâyour time, your laughter, your casual touches that rewire his brain. But the idea of watching you navigate a wedding alone, of other people getting to see you in that dress...
"Fine," he hears himself say. "But I'm not dancing."
The smile you give him could power Brooklyn for a week.
He's absolutely, catastrophically unprepared for how you look in candlelight.
The wedding venue is one of those rustic-chic places that thinks exposed beams equal personality. You're at table eight, which puts you safely in "college friends but not close enough for the wedding party" territory. You've been providing whispered commentary all through the ceremony ("five bucks says she wrote her vows the night before"), your shoulder pressed against his in a way that makes paying attention to anything else physically impossible.
"See that bridesmaid?" You nod toward a blonde who's definitely already three champagnes deep. "That's Amber. We were roommates sophomore year. She once tried to seduce our RA by leaving Post-it poetry on his door."
"Did it work?"
"Depends on your definition of 'work.' She did get his attention. Also a conduct violation." You're playing with the stem of your wine glass, fingers tracing patterns. "Thanks for this, by the way. I know wearing a suit and making small talk isn't exactly your idea of fun."
He could tell you that wearing a suit is nothing compared to tac gear, that small talk is easier than Senate hearings. Could mention that the way you keep unconsciously leaning into him makes any discomfort worth it. Instead: "It's fine."
"Such enthusiasm." But you're smiling, soft and maybe a little fond. "Dance with me?"
"I said no dancing."
"You said that before you had champagne. And before they playedâ" You tilt your head, listening. "Oh my god, is this Bon Jovi? We have to dance to Bon Jovi. It's the law."
"That's not a law."
"It's a law of wedding physics. Come on, Barnes. One dance. I promise not to step on your feet much."
The thing is, he can't say no to you. It's becoming a problem. You want him to fix your sink? Done. Need someone to hold your laptop while you Skype your mother? He's there. Want him to dance to "Livin' on a Prayer" at some stranger's wedding? Apparently, that's happening too.
You're a terrible dancer. Genuinely awful. You have no sense of rhythm, keep trying to lead, and you're laughing too hard to even pretend otherwise. It's perfect. He spins you out just to watch your dress flare, pulls you back too close, and for a momentâyour hand in his, your face tilted up, surrounded by fairy lights and other people's happinessâhe forgets why this is a bad idea.
"See?" you say, slightly breathless. "Dancing's not so bad."
His hand is on your waist. He can feel your pulse through the thin fabric. "No. Not so bad."
Someone bumps into you from behind, pushing you fully against his chest. Your hands come up to steady yourself, one landing over his heart, and he knows you can feel how it stumbles. Your smile falters, shifts into something else. Something that looks dangerously like realization.
"Buckyâ"
"They're cutting the cake," he says, stepping back. The loss of contact feels like losing a limb. "Should probably watch. For your show."
You blink, then recover. "Right. Yeah. Cake."
But you're quiet for the rest of the reception, and he catches you looking at him with this expression he can't decode. Like you're working through a complex equation and not liking the answer.
He drives home. You spend the ride fiddling with your phone, uncharacteristically silent. When he pulls up to the building, you don't immediately get out.
"I'm sorry if Iâ" you start.
"Don't." It comes out harsher than intended. He tries again, softer: "You didn't do anything wrong."
"Feels like I did." You're still not looking at him. "I forget sometimes, that you'reâthat we'reâ"
"Friends," he supplies, even though the word tastes like ash. "We're friends."
"Right." You finally meet his eyes, and there's something careful in your expression now. Guarded. "Friends."
You're out of the car before he can figure out what to say to fix this. He watches you disappear into the building first, red dress like a wound in the grey evening, and knows he's fucked everything up without quite understanding how.
You pull back after that.
It's subtleâyou still smile when you see him in the hall, still text him memes at inappropriate hours. But you stop knocking on his door for impromptu dinners. Stop touching him casually. When he offers to fix your eternally-dripping showerhead, you say you'll call the super instead.
"You're moping," Sam tells him two weeks later, during one of their mandatory "make sure Bucky's not spiraling" brunch dates.
"I don't mope."
"You're the Black Widow of moping. The Michael Jordan of emotional constipation." Sam pauses. "That neighbor you mentioned?"
Bucky's silence is damning.
"What'd you do?"
"Why do you assume I did something?"
"Because you always do something. You get close to someone, panic, and pull some self-sabotaging bullshit." Sam's voice gentles. "Talk to me, man."
Bucky stares at his coffee like it holds answers. "She wanted to dance."
"...okay?"
"At a wedding. And Iâwe danced. And it was..." He doesn't have words for what it was. How you felt in his arms, how the world narrowed down to just the two of you, how for a moment he forgot he was dangerous. "And then I shut it down."
"Why?"
"Because." He sets the mug down too hard, coffee sloshing. "Because she's sunshine, Sam. She's late-night cooking shows and glitter pens and leaving snacks for the delivery guy. She has no idea what I've done, what I'm capable ofâ"
"Did you ever think maybe she does know and doesn't care?"
"Then she's naĂŻve."
"Or maybe she just sees you better than you see yourself." Sam leans forward. "Buck, you can't protect people by pushing them away. That's not how it works."
"It's worked so far."
"Has it? Because from where I'm sitting, you're miserable, she's probably confused as hell, and nobody's actually safer."
Bucky wants to argue, but then his phone buzzes. Your name pops up: my smoke alarm is having an existential crisis. is it supposed to beep in morse code?
He's already standing before he realizes it.
"Go," Sam says, shaking his head but smiling. "Fix her smoke alarm. Talk to her like a human being. Maybe try not to fuck it up this time."
Your door is already cracked when he gets there, smoke rolling out in lazy waves.
"I'm not on fire!" you call before he can knock. "Well, the oven mitt was, but I handled it."
He finds you on a chair, ineffectively fanning the smoke detector with a dish towel. You're wearing those little pajama shorts again and his brain still isn't prepared for the sight.
"How does an oven mitt catch fire?" He reaches up, disables the alarm with practiced ease.
"Well, when you forget it's on your hand and rest it on the stove burner..." You shrink a little at his look. "I was distracted."
"By what?"
You don't answer, just hop down from the chair. This close, he can see the flour in your hair, the way you're worrying your bottom lip. "Thanks. Sorry for texting, I know it's lateâ"
"Why are you apologizing?"
"Becauseâ" You make a frustrated gesture. "Because I'm trying to give you space. Because you clearly regretted the wedding thing and I'm trying not to be that neighbor who develops inconvenient feelingsâ"
"Feelings?" His brain snags on the word like cloth on a nail.
You go very still. "Shit. I mean. Not feelings. Just. You know. Neighbor...ly concern. Very platonic. Super appropriate."
"You're a terrible liar."
"Yeah, well, you're terrible atâ" You stop, visibly collecting yourself. When you speak again, your voice is carefully level: "I like you, okay? More than I should. And I know that's not what you want, and I'm trying really hard to be okay with that, but you standing in my kitchen looking all concerned while I'm having a feelings crisis is really not helping."
The words hit him like a physical blow. You like him. More than you should.
"You don't know me," he says, defaulting to the easiest argument.
"Bullshit." There's heat in your voice now. "I know you reorganize my bookshelf when you think I'm not looking because the chaos bothers you. I know you bring me coffee on Tuesdays because you noticed I have early meetings. I know you have nightmaresâyeah, the walls are thinâand I know you pace afterwards like you're trying to walk off whatever you dreamed about."
Each observation feels like being flayed open.
"I know you're careful," you continue, softer now. "I know you think you're dangerous. And I know you've probably got reasons for that. But Bucky? I also know you'd never hurt me. Ever."
"You can't know that."
"Why? Because you're what, too damaged? Too dangerous?" You step closer and he should step back but he's frozen. "You carry my groceries. You fixed my faucet. You danced with me at a wedding even though you hate dancing. Really dangerous stuff there, Barnes."
"You don't understandâ"
"Then explain it to me." Your chin juts out, stubborn. "Give me one good reason why we can'tâ"
He kisses you.
It's the wrong thing to do. Selfish. Stupid. But you're standing there in your flour-dusted pajamas, looking at him like he's worth fighting for, and his self-control just...snaps.
The sound you makeâsoft, surprised, maybe relievedâshorts out every rational thought in his head. Your hands come up to frame his face, fingertips cool against his burning skin, and then you're kissing him back like you've been waiting for this, like you've been drowning too.
You taste like smoke and whatever you were baking, sweet with an edge of burn, and he's dizzy with it. His hands find your waist, fingers spreading wide against the soft cotton of your shirt, and he pulls you in until there's no space between you, until he can feel your heartbeat hammering against his chest. You're so warm, so alive, radiating heat like a small sun, and he wants to map every degree of it with his mouth, his hands, hisâ
Reality crashes back like ice water.
He jerks away, but his hands won't let go of your waist, like his body's in revolt against his better judgment. You're both breathing like you've run milesâharsh, ragged pulls of air that fill the space between you. Your lips are swollen, kiss-bruised, and he did that, he marked you, and the savage satisfaction of it wars with the knowledge that he's just made everything infinitely worse.
Your eyes are huge, pupils blown wide, and you're looking at him like he's just rearranged your entire understanding of the universe. One hand is still on his face, thumb pressed to the corner of his mouth like you're trying to hold the kiss there, keep it from escaping.
"That's why," he says roughly. "Because I wantâbecause you make me want things I can't have."
"Says who?" Your eyes are very bright. "Who decided what you can have?"
He doesn't have an answer for that. Doesn't know how to explain the mathematics of survival, how everyone he's ever cared about becomes a liability, a target, a grave.
"I should go," he manages.
"Or," you say, "you could stay."
The offer hangs between you like a lit fuse. He can see the future unspool in both directions: leave now, go back to safe distances and polite nods in the hallway, watch you eventually move on with someone who doesn't come with a body count. Or stay, and risk you realizing what a mistake you're making. Stay, and selfishly take whatever you're willing to give for however long you're willing to give it.
You're still looking at him, patient and terrified and hopeful all at once.
He leaves.
The word echoes in his head all the way back to his apartment. Coward. Coward. Coward. But it's the right thing to do. The safe thing. You'll hurt for a while, maybe hate him a little, but you'll be alive to do it.
He doesn't sleep. Just sits on his couch, staring at the wall that separates your apartments, listening to the muffled sounds of you cleaning up. The shower runs at 2 AM. He knows you cry in the shower when you think no one can hearâlearned that three weeks into being neighbors, when your freelance client stiffed you on a big project. He'd wanted to break the fucker's legs then.
Now he wants to break his own.
You're a better person than he'll ever be, which is why you still smile at him in the hallway.
It's careful now, contained. The kind of smile you'd give any neighbor, not the one that used to light up your whole face when you saw him. You don't knock anymore. Don't text about your smoke alarm or your leaky faucet or the rat you're convinced lives in the walls. You just...exist, parallel to him, in a way that makes his chest feel like it's full of broken glass.
"Fixed it myself," you say one morning when he catches you wrestling with a new deadbolt installation. Your drill slips, gouging the doorframe. "YouTube University, you know?"
He could fix it in under a minute. Could show you how to align the strike plate properly, how to test the throw. Instead: "Good for you."
Your smile flickers. "Yeah. Good for me."
Mrs. Nguyen gives him dirty looks now. The whole floor does, really. Like they know he's the reason you don't laugh as loud anymore, why your music's quieter, why you started getting grocery delivery instead of making three trips up the stairs, arms overloaded, dropping things and cursing cheerfully.
It's fine. It's working. You're safe.
He tells himself that every night when he hears you through the walls, moving around your apartment like a ghost of the person who used to dance while cooking.
Three weeks post-kiss, Valentina calls them in for a mission that's barely legal on a good day.
"Weapons shipment," she says, sliding photos across the conference table with her usual theatrical flair. "Enhanced tech, off-market, very much not supposed to exist. The kind of toys that make governments nervous."
"So we're stealing them," Walker states, not asks.
"Recovering," Val corrects with a smile sharp enough to cut. "For the safety of the American people, of course."
Yelena snorts. Alexei's already studying the compound layout like there'll be a test. Bob's doing that thing where he shrinks into himself, trying to become invisible. Bucky catalogs exits, counts guards in the surveillance photos, and tries not to think about how you looked last night, hauling groceries with your hair falling in your eyes.
The mission goes sideways in minute three.
"Intel was wrong," Ava's voice crackles through comms, too calm for the situation. "Triple the guards. Andâ"
The explosion cuts her off. Then another. The "barely defended warehouse" is a fucking fortress, crawling with military-grade security who definitely got the "shoot to kill" memo.
"Fall back," Bucky orders, but Alexei's already charged ahead, yelling something about Soviet glory. Walker's trying to flank, Bob's panicking, and somewhere in the chaos, Yelena starts laughing like this is the best thing that's happened all week.
It takes two hours to fight their way out. By the end, Bucky's left arm is sparking, his ears are ringing, and he's pretty sure at least three ribs are cracked. Yelena's favoring her right leg, Walker's bleeding from somewhere he won't admit, and BobâBob's dissociating so hard Bucky has to physically guide him to the extraction point.
"Well," Val says over comms, observing from her safe distance, "that was bracing."
Bucky doesn't trust himself to respond.
They limp back to New York in sullen silence. No debriefâVal's already spinning the disaster into something palatable for the brass. Bucky goes straight home, ignoring Sam's calls, ignoring everything except the need to get somewhere quiet before he starts breaking things.
His hands are still shaking when he reaches his floor. Adrenaline crash, probably. Or the delayed realization that they'd all nearly died for some bureaucrat's idea of asset recovery. Orâ
Your door is open.
Not open-open. Cracked, like it didn't latch properly. Like someone left in a hurry. Orâ
The deadbolt is broken.
The one you installed yourself three weeks ago. The one he'd watched you struggle with, pride keeping you from asking for help.
Bucky goes utterly still.
His body moves before his brain catches up. He's through your doorway, cataloging details with mechanical precision: lamp knocked over, books scattered, coffee table shoved sideways. Signs of a struggle. Signs ofâ
Blood.
Not much. Just droplets on the hardwood, leading toward the kitchen. But enough. Enough to make his vision tunnel, his chest compress until breathing becomes theoretical.
"Sweetheart?" The pet name slips out, raw. No answer. He clears each room like he's back in Hydra facilities, except his hands won't stop shaking because this is your space, your things, yourâ
Your phone is on the kitchen floor, screen cracked. There's a handprint on the wallâbloody, smeared. Too small to be anyone's but yours.
Something inside him breaks. Clean, sharp, like a bone snapping. The careful distance he's maintained, the walls he's built, the conviction that keeping you at arm's length would keep you safeâall of it crumbles in the face of your empty apartment and that small, bloody handprint.
He's already moving, phone out, calling in favors he's been hoarding. Because someone took you. Someone came into your homeâthe home he was supposed to be protecting by staying awayâand took you. And they're going to learn exactly why the Winter Soldier's name still makes people flinch.
His phone rings. Unknown number.
"Barnes." He doesn't recognize his own voice.
"Ah, the infamous Winter Soldier." The voice is male, amused, completely at ease. "I was hoping we could talk."
"Where is she?"
"Safe. For now. Though that really depends on you, doesn't it?"
Ice spreads through his veins, familiar as an old friend. This is what he was trying to prevent. This exact scenario. You, hurt because of him. You, taken because someone figured outâ
"What do you want?"
"You've been playing house, Barnes. Getting soft. Forgetting what you are." A pause, calculated. "I'm going to remind you. And your little neighbor? She's going to help."
The line goes dead.
Bucky stands in your ruined apartment, surrounded by the evidence of his failure, and feels something fundamental shift. Not breakâhe's been broken before. This is worse. This is the cold clarity that comes after, when there's nothing left to lose.
Someone made a mistake today. They touched you. They made you bleed.
He's going to paint the city red for it.
"Buck, slow downâ"
"No." He's already moving, gathering gear with brutal efficiency. The weapons he's not supposed to have. The tech that's definitely illegal. Every favor, every resource, every skill Hydra beat into him over seventy years.
Sam's on speaker, trying to be the voice of reason. "You can't just go in guns blazingâ"
"Watch me."
"This is exactly what they want. You, isolated, operating without backupâ"
"They have her, Sam." The words come out raw, flayed. "They took her because of me. Because I was stupid enough to think distance would keep her safe."
Silence on the other end. Then: "What do you need?"
That's why Sam Wilson is Captain America. No more arguments, no more trying to talk him down. Just immediate, unwavering support.
"Intel. Cameras in my building, surrounding blocks. Last twelve hours." He straps a knife to his thigh, then another. "And get me backup."
"I can rally your team. Get Walker, Yelenaâ"
"No." The word comes out sharp. Another knife. Extra magazines. "The Thunderbolts are compromised. That clusterfuck of a mission proved it."
"Buckâ"
"They're not ready for this. Half of them can barely work together without Val pulling the strings." He's checking his tactical vest, muscle memory taking over. "This isn't a government op. This is personal."
"So what, you're going in alone?"
Is he? Bucky stops, considers his options. The Thunderbolts are a mess on a good dayâWalker's still trying to prove something, Bob's hanging on by a thread, and Alexei treats everything like a performance. They're not who he needs for this.
"They touched her," he says simply.
"I know, man. I know. Butâ"
"Get me what intel you can. I'll handle the rest."
"Buck, come on. At least let meâ"
"They have her, Sam." His voice cracks, just slightly. "Every second we waste talking, they could beâ"
"Okay. Okay. Intel coming your way. But Barnes? Don't do anything stupid."
"Too late for that."
Bucky stops in your doorway, looks back at your apartment. There's a photo on your bookshelfâyou and him at the building's July 4th party. Mrs. Nguyen had insisted on taking it. You're laughing at something, leaning into him, and he's looking at you likeâ
Like you're everything he never thought he'd get to have.
"I'm coming for you," he tells the empty room. A promise. A threat. A prayer to whoever might be listening.
Then he disappears into the night, and the Winter Soldier goes hunting.
The trail goes cold in six hours.
Whoever took you, they're not amateurs playing at being dangerous. They're ghostsâprofessionals who know exactly how to disappear in a city of eight million people. Every camera angle's been scrubbed. Every witness suddenly develops amnesia. Even the blood in your apartment leads nowhere; cleaned of DNA markers by something that makes Bucky's teeth ache with familiarity.
"Talk to me, Buck." Sam's voice through the earpiece, carefully level. "Where are you?"
Bucky stands on a rooftop in Queens, staring at another dead end. Another empty warehouse that should have had something, anything. "Nowhere."
"That's not an answer."
"It's the only one I've got." His metal hand clenches, servos whining. Below, the city keeps moving, oblivious to the fact that you're somewhere in it, hurt, taken because of him. "They're good, Sam. Too good."
"We'll find her."
We. Like this isn't Bucky's fault. Like his past isn't bleeding into your present, staining everything he tried so hard to keep clean.
He drops from the rooftop, lands hard enough to crack pavement. A passing couple startles, hurries away. Good. He doesn't feel particularly human right now anyway.
Hour twelve. Yelena finds him in your apartment, sitting on your couch like a grieving statue.
"This is pathetic," she says, stepping over the crime scene tape he'd ignored. "Even for you."
"Get out."
"No." She perches on your coffee table, uncharacteristically serious. "You think sitting here feeling sorry for yourself will find her? You think guilt helps?"
"I saidâ"
"I know what guilt looks like, Barnes." Her voice cuts, precise as the knives she carries. "I know what it is, failing someone youâ" She pauses, searching for the English word. "Care about. But this?" She gestures at him, at the apartment, at the bloody handprint he can't stop staring at. "This is just... как ŃŃĐž... self-pity? No, worse. Useless."
The laugh that tears out of him is ugly. "Thanks for the pep talk."
"Someone needs to knock sense into your thick skull." She leans forward. "Whoever has her, they want you like this. Emotional. Sloppy. Making mistakes."
"I know that."
"Then stop giving them what they want."
Easier said than done when every surface in this apartment carries your ghost. The mug on the counter with your lipstick stain. The book splayed open on the side table, marking your place. The sweater thrown over the chairâhis sweater, actually, stolen three weeks ago when you'd claimed your apartment was freezing.
"Keep it," he'd said, trying not to notice how it made something primal in him satisfied, seeing you wrapped in his clothes.
"Just until I fix my radiator," you'd promised, but you'd worn it three more times that week, and he'd never asked for it back.
"Barnes." Yelena snaps her fingers in his face. "ĐĄŃОкŃŃиŃŃĐšŃŃ. Focus."
"I am focused."
"You're spiraling." She pulls out her phone, shows him surveillance footage he's already memorized. "Look again. Really look. Use your brain, not your bleeding heart."
He wants to tell her he's looked at nothing else for twelve hours. Instead, he watches you leave your apartment at 6:47 PM, mail in hand. Watches you come back at 6:53. The timestamp jumpsâ7:31 to 8:15, forty-four minutes missing. By 8:15, your door's ajar and you're gone.
"Professional crew doesn't need forty-four minutes for grab," Yelena says, her English getting rougher as she thinks. "So why take so long? What were they doing?"
Bucky's phone buzzes. Unknown number.
His blood turns to ice, then flame.
"You're going to want to watch this alone," the familiar voice says. "Though I'm sure your friend is lovely. Hi, Yelena."
She stiffens. Bucky's already moving, putting distance between them, some instinct screaming danger.
"Just me," he says. "Let her go."
"See, that's your problem, Barnes. Still trying to protect everyone. Still thinking you can control who gets hurt." A pause. "Check your messages."
The video file is already there. His hand shakes as he opens it.
You're in a concrete roomâcould be anywhere, everywhere, the kind of place that exists in every city's bones. Sitting in a metal chair, wrists zip-tied but not apparently hurt beyond the cut on your temple still sluggishly bleeding. You're still wearing his sweater.
"Say hello, sweetheart." The voice comes from behind the camera.
You look up, and the defiance in your eyes makes his chest seize. "Go fuck yourself."
The slap comes fast, snaps your head sideways. Bucky's phone creaks in his grip.
"Language." The camera shifts, focuses on your face. "Try again."
You spit blood, manage a smile that's all teeth. "Hi, Bucky. Nice weather we're having."
Another slap. Harder. Your lip splits.
"I told you he made you weak." The voice continues conversationally as you work your jaw, testing damage. "The Winter Soldier, reduced to playing house with some nobody. It's embarrassing, really."
"You talk a lot for someone hiding behind a camera," you mutter.
This time it's a fist. Your head rocks back, and when you look up again, your nose is bleeding. But you're still glaring, still unbroken, and Bucky loves you so fiercely in that moment it feels like drowning.
"Here's what's going to happen," the voice continues. "Every hour Barnes doesn't come alone to the address we'll send, things get worse for you. And before you get any ideasâ" The camera pans to show three other men, armed, professional. "âwe've planned for contingencies."
Back to you. Blood drips onto his sweater. You notice the camera returning, look directly into it. "Don't you fucking dare," you say, and despite everythingâsplit lip, bloody nose, zip-tied to a chairâyou mean it. "You hear me, Barnes? Don't youâ"
The video cuts.
Bucky stands very still in your empty apartment, phone in pieces at his feet.
"That bad?" Yelena asks.
He can't speak. Can barely breathe around the rage threatening to tear him apart from the inside. Somewhere in the city, you're bleeding because of him. Hurt because he was selfish enough to let you close, stupid enough to think distance would be enough.
Another text. An address in Red Hook. Come alone or we start cutting.
"Is trap," Yelena says, dropping articles like she does when she's focused. "Obviously trap."
"I know."
"You can't just walk in there like idiot."
"I know."
"So what's plan?"
He looks at her, and whatever she sees in his face makes her step back. "I give them what they want."
"Barnesâ"
"They want the Winter Soldier?" His voice sounds wrong, mechanical, like something dredged up from permafrost. "They've got him."
The address leads to a warehouse because of course it does. These people, whoever they are, lack imagination. Bucky counts heat signatures through thermal imagingâsix outside, unknown inside. Doable, if he's what he used to be. If he's willing to be what he used to be.
"Don't you fucking dare."
Your voice echoes, but it's drowned out by older programming. By muscle memory that never quite faded, no matter how many therapy sessions or good days or shared dinners with someone who looked at him like he was worth saving.
"In position," Sam's voice, because fuck going alone. Fuck giving them what they want. "West entrance."
"Rooftop," from Yelena.
"Back door," Walker, surprisingly. "For the record, I think this is stupid."
"Noted," Bucky says, and walks through the front door.
The space is exactly what he expected. Concrete floors, exposed beams, the kind of place that swallows sound. They're waiting for himâfive men in tactical gear, no identifying marks. Professional contractors, not ideologues. Which makes this personal.
"Dramatic entrance. I respect that." The voice from the phone materializes into a man in his forties, military bearing, forgettable face. He's standing next to a metal table laid out with tools that make Bucky's scars ache. "Though you were supposed to come alone."
"Yeah, well." Bucky spreads his hands, easy target. "I've never been good at following orders. Ask anyone."
"Funny." The man circles him, predator studying prey. "That's not what your files say. 'Perfect compliance.' That was the phrase, wasn't it?"
Old wounds, precisely targeted. These people have done their homework.
"Where is she?"
"Close. Alive. For now." The man stops in front of him. "You know, I studied you. The Winter Soldier. Hydra's perfect weapon. And then you just... stopped. Became this." He gestures dismissively. "James Barnes, failing congressman. Playing superhero. Pretending you're not what we made you."
"We?"
The man smiles. "Not Hydra, if that's what you're thinking. Hydra was sloppy. Cult-like. No vision beyond control." He pulls out a tablet, shows Bucky a logoâa chimera, three-headed. "Cerberus. We're more... refined. We deal in weapons, not world domination. And you, Barnes? You're a weapon pretending to be human."
"Cool speech." Bucky's cataloging angles, distances, how fast he'd have to move. "Must've practiced in the mirror."
The man's smile tightens. "Bring her out."
Two more men emerge from a side room, dragging you between them. You're conscious but barely, feet stumbling, head lolling. They drop you on the concrete, and you don't get up.
Everything in Bucky goes very, very quiet.
"So here's the deal," Cerberus continues. "You're going to work for us. Exclusive contract. Your particular skills in exchange for her life."
"No." Your voice, cracked but clear. You push yourself up on shaking arms, meet Bucky's eyes across the warehouse. "No deals. No trades."
"Sweetheartâ"
"Don't you 'sweetheart' me." You manage to get to your knees, swaying. Blood's dried on your face, but your eyes are blazing. "You think I don't know what they're asking? You think I'd let youâ" You have to stop, catch your breath. "I'd rather die than be the reason you become that again."
"How touching," Cerberus says. "But not your call." He nods to one of his men, who pulls out a knife. "Barnes? Your answer?"
The knife moves toward you.
The world explodes.
Flash-bangs through windows, smoke grenades, the distinctive whine of repulsor beams. Cerberus shouts orders, but it's too lateâthe Avengers don't do subtle when one of their own is threatened.
Bucky moves. Not the measured approach of a soldier, but the brutal efficiency of a weapon. The man with the knife goes down first, arm snapping under metal fingers. The second barely has time to scream. He's not thinking, just reacting, just removing threats between him and you.
Someone shoots him. Barely feels it. Someone else tries hand-to-hand, which is adorable. He puts them through a wall.
"Barnes!" Sam's voice, sharp. "Shield up!"
He spins, catches the thrown shield, uses it to deflect a spray of bullets meant for you. You're trying to crawl to cover, leaving bloody handprints on the concrete, and the sight shorts out whatever restraint he had left.
When the smoke clears, Cerberus is the only one left standing. Backed against the wall, gun trained on you because of course it is. These people are predictable to the last.
"Come any closer andâ"
Yelena drops from the ceiling, lands on him like gravity given form. The gun goes flying. Cerberus goes down choking on his own blood, Yelena's knife finding the gap in his armor like it was designed for it.
"Predictable," she says, wiping the blade clean. "I told you they were predictable."
But Bucky's already moving, dropping to his knees beside you. You're conscious, breathing, alive. That's all that matters. Everything elseâthe mission, the cleanup, the questionsâfades to white noise.
"Hey," he says, hands hovering over you, afraid to touch. Afraid to hurt. "I've got you."
"Took you long enough," you manage, then promptly pass out in his arms.
He catches you, holds you against his chest, and something in him breaks. Or maybe it finally, finally mends. Either way, he's done pretending distance keeps anyone safe. Done acting like he deserves to make choices about your safety without you.
"Med team's three minutes out," Sam says quietly.
Three minutes. He can hold you for three minutes. Can keep you safe for three minutes.
After that? After that, everything changes.
But for now, in the blood and smoke and aftermath, Bucky Barnes holds the person he was stupid enough to fall in love with and makes a promise:
Never again.
Never fucking again.
The medical bay at the Tower is too bright, too sterile, too full of people who keep looking at Bucky like he might snap. Maybe he will. He's been sitting in the same chair for four hours, watching machines monitor your breathing, and every beep feels like an accusation.
"You need to get that looked at," Sam says, nodding at the blood seeping through Bucky's shirt. Gunshot wound, probably. He honestly can't remember.
"I'm fine."
"You're bleeding on their fancy floors."
"I'm fine."
Sam exchanges a look with Yelena, who's been uncharacteristically quiet since they arrived. She's cleaned the blood off her hands but keeps flexing them, like she can still feel it.
"At least change your shirt," she says finally. "You look like extra from horror movie."
He doesn't move. Can't move. Because what if you wake up while he's gone? What if you open your eyes and he's not there, again, like he wasn't there when they took you?
"Barnes." Dr. Cho's voice cuts through his spiral. "She's stable. Three broken ribs, concussion, various contusions, but nothing life-threatening. She's lucky."
Lucky. The word tastes like copper in his mouth. Lucky is winning the lottery, not surviving a kidnapping because you had the misfortune of living next to him.
"When will she wake up?"
"Soon. The sedatives should wear off within the hour." She pauses, studying him with that look medical professionals get when they're about to say something pointed. "You, however, need treatment. You're actively bleeding on my floor."
"Sam already made that joke."
"It wasn't a joke." But she moves on, knowing a lost cause when she sees one. "I'll send a nurse with supplies. Try not to die before she wakes up. The paperwork would be tedious."
She leaves. Sam leaves. Even Yelena eventually wanders off, muttering something about vodka and terrible life choices. And then it's just Bucky and you and the steady beep of machines he'd tear apart if they stopped working.
Your hand is smaller than his. He knows thisâhas known it since the first time you grabbed his wrist to drag him to see some neighbor's new puppyâbut it feels more pronounced now. More fragile. Your knuckles are split from fighting back, and there's still blood under your nails. His blood? Theirs? He doesn't know, and the not knowing makes him want to put his fist through the wall.
"You're spiraling again."
Your voice is hoarse, barely above a whisper, but it might as well be a gunshot for how hard it hits. His head snaps up to find you watching him, eyes half-open but alert.
"You're awake."
"Mmm. Kind of wish I wasn't." You try to sit up, wince, immediately abort that mission. "Fuck. Did anyone get the number of the truck that hit me?"
"Don'tâ" He's hovering, hands fluttering uselessly, afraid to touch you. "You shouldn't move. Dr. Cho saidâ"
"Dr. Cho can kiss my ass," you mutter, but you stop trying to sit up. Your eyes track over him, cataloging damage. "You're bleeding."
"It's nothing."
"It's literally dripping on the floor, Barnes."
"It's fine."
You stare at each other. Four hours of practiced speeches evaporate in the face of your actual consciousness, leaving him with nothing but the memory of your blood on concrete and the sound you made when they hit you.
"So," you say finally, voice carefully neutral. "Cerberus. That was fun."
"Don't."
"Don't what? Make jokes about my kidnapping? Process trauma through humor? Acknowledge that you're sitting there bleeding because you decided to Rambo your way throughâ"
"You could have died." It comes out louder than intended, raw. "You almost died because of me."
Something shifts in your expression. "Buckyâ"
"No." He's standing now, needing distance, needing space between him and the way you're looking at him. "You don't get toâto act like this is fine. Like this is some funny story you'll tell at parties. They took you because of me. They hurt you because of me."
"They took me because they're assholes who thought they could use me as leverage." You're struggling to sit up again, ignoring whatever pain it causes. "That's on them, not you."
"You're only leverage because I was selfish enough toâ" He stops, runs his hand through his hair. "I knew better. I knew what would happen if I let someone close, and I did it anyway."
"Let me get this straight." Your voice is gaining strength, and with it, heat. "You think you 'let' me get close? Like I didn't have any say in it? Like I didn't practically force-feed you cookies until you acknowledged my existence?"
"That's notâ"
"And what, you think keeping me at arm's length would've magically made me safer? News flash, Barnes: I live in that building because it's what I can afford. That makes me a target for regular criminals on a good day. At least with you around, I had someone who actually gave a shit if I made it home."
"Don't." The word cracks. "Don't act like I was protecting you. I'm the reason you were bleeding. I'm the reason theyâ"
"You're the reason I'm alive!" You swing your legs over the side of the bed, bare feet hitting the floor with determination that makes his chest tight. "You think they took me because they wanted leverage? They took me because they were cleaning house. Because they knew you'd gotten soft, gotten close to someone, and that made you unpredictable."
You stand, sway, catch yourself on the bed rail. He moves forward instinctively, and you hold up a hand.
"No. You don't get to touch me right now. Not when you're about to do something stupid and noble and self-sacrificing." You take a step, then another, closing the distance between you despite your own warning. "They were going to kill me either way, Barnes. Whether you came for me or not. The only difference is that you did come, and now I'm alive to be really fucking pissed at you."
"You don't understandâ"
"I understand perfectly." You're close enough now that he can see the bruises forming on your throat, the way you're holding your ribs, the tears you're refusing to shed. "You think you're poison. You think everyone you touch gets hurt. You think the best thing you can do is be alone forever because that's what you deserve."
"Stop."
"No. Because here's the thing, James Buchanan Barnesâyou don't get to make that choice for me." Your voice breaks, just a little. "You don't get to decide I'm better off without you. You don't get to kiss me in my kitchen and then run away like a coward. And you sure as hell don't get to sit there bleeding and act like it's some kind of penance."
The medical bay feels too small suddenly, like all the air's been sucked out. You're looking at him with eyes that see too much, that refuse to let him hide behind the careful walls he's rebuilt in the last three weeks.
"They hurt you," he says, quieter now. Lost.
"Yeah. They did." You reach up, slowly, telegraphing the movement. Your hand cups his face, thumb brushing over the bruise on his cheekbone. "And it wasn't your fault."
"How can you say that?"
"Because blaming you for what they did is like blaming a bank for getting robbed." Your other hand comes up, framing his face, forcing him to meet your eyes. "You're not responsible for other people's evil, Bucky. You're only responsible for what you do about it."
"I should have protected you better."
"You literally threw yourself between me and automatic gunfire."
"I should have never let them take you in the first place."
"Oh, so you're psychic now? Can predict the future?" Your laugh is watery. "Add that to the resume. Congressman, ex-assassin, part-time fortune teller."
"This isn't funny."
"It's a little funny." But your smile fades, replaced by something fiercer. "You want to know what's not funny? Spending three weeks watching you shut me out. Sitting in that chair, knowing you were hurting, and not being able to do anything because you decided I was better off without you."
"You areâ"
"Finish that sentence and I swear to god, Barnes, concussion or not, I will punch you in your stupid, self-loathing face."
He almost smiles. Almost. "You could barely stand five seconds ago."
"Adrenaline's a hell of a drug." But you're swaying again, and this time when he reaches for you, you don't stop him. His arms come around you carefully, mindful of injuries, and you lean into him like you've been waiting for permission. "I'm so fucking mad at you."
"I know."
"Like, incandescently furious."
"I know."
"You don't get to leave again." It comes out muffled against his chest, but he hears the steel underneath. "I don't care if the entire population of supervillains decides I'm their new favorite target. You don't get to leave."
His arms tighten fractionally. "Sweetheartâ"
"No." You pull back enough to glare at him, and even bruised and exhausted, you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. "No 'sweetheart.' No soft voice and sad eyes. You're either in this with me or you're out, but you don't get to half-ass it anymore. You don't get to knock on my door at 2 AM because you had a nightmare and then pretend we're just neighbors. You don't get to dance with me at weddings and then act like it meant nothing. You don't get toâ"
He kisses you.
There's no grace in itâjust collision, pure physics as his mouth finds yours with the same brutal efficiency he'd use to take down a target. Except this isn't violence, it's something worse. It's capitulation. It's three weeks of want compressed into the space between one heartbeat and the next.
The noise that escapes youâhalf gasp, half sobâunlocks something feral in his chest. Then your teeth catch his lower lip, sharp and unforgiving, and his vision whites out entirely. You kiss like you fight: dirty, determined, taking no prisoners. Your tongue slides against his and his knees actually buckle, what the fuck, he's faced down alien armies without flinching but you're going to be what finally kills him.
His hands fly to your face, metal and flesh cradling your jaw like you're something precious even as he devours your mouth like you're anything but. You're pressed so tight against him he can feel every hitch in your breathing, every shudder that runs through you when he angles his head and deepens the kiss into something filthier, something that has you making these broken little sounds that he wants to bottle and keep.
The medical bed hits the back of your thighsâwhen did he walk you backward?âand you use the leverage to pull him down, down, until he's curved over you like a question mark, like gravity itself has reorganized around the heat of your mouth.
When you finally break apart, it's only because biology demands it. You're both wreckedâbreathing like you've run marathons, lips swollen and spit-slick, staring at each other like you're not quite sure what just happened.
Your pupils are blown so wide he can barely see the color of your irises. There's a flush spreading down your throat, disappearing beneath the hospital gown, and he has to physically stop himself from following it with his mouth. His hands are trembling where they frame your face, thumbs pressed to your cheekbones like he's checking you're real.
"That's not an answer," you manage, but your voice is thoroughly fucked, and your hands are still twisted in his vest like you'll shoot him if he tries to move away.
"Yes, it is."
"No, it's really not. It's a deflection. A really nice deflection, butâ"
"I'm in." The words feel like jumping off a cliff. Like defusing a bomb. Like coming home. "I'm in. Whatever that means, whatever that looks like. I'm in."
You study him for a long moment, and he tries not to fidget under the scrutiny. Finally: "You're going to therapy."
"I'm already in therapy."
"You're going to actually talk in therapy instead of just staring at the wall and hoping Dr. Raynor gets bored."
"...fine."
"And you're going to let me have a say in my own safety. No more unilateral decisions about what's 'best' for me."
"Okay."
"And you're going to teach me self-defense. Real self-defense, not just how to throw a punch."
"Deal."
"Andâ" You sway again, this time more dramatically. "Oh. Okay. Maybe sitting down now."
He guides you back to the bed, hands steady even if nothing else is. You let him fuss, let him adjust pillows and pull up blankets, and he tries not to think about how easily you fit into his hands. How right this feels, even with blood on his shirt and bruises on your skin.
"For the record," you say as he settles back into the chair beside your bed, "I'm still mad."
"I know."
"Like, really mad. There's going to be yelling. Possibly throwing things."
"I can take it."
"And groveling. Lots of groveling. I'm talking flowers, chocolates, the works."
"Noted."
You reach for his hand, lace your fingers through his. "And you're going to tell me you love me."
He freezes. You squeeze his hand.
"Because I know you do. I've known since you reorganized my bookshelf by genre and then pretended you didn't. And I love you too, you absolute disaster of a man, but I need to hear you say it. When I'm not concussed and you're not bleeding. When we're both safe and no one's trying to kill us and we can actually have a real conversation about what this means."
His throat feels tight. "I can do that."
"Good." You close your eyes, exhaustion finally winning. "Now get your gunshot wound treated before you bleed out on my watch. I'm not explaining that to Sam."
"It's not that bad."
"Bucky."
"Fine."
But he doesn't move. Not yet. Instead, he sits there holding your hand, memorizing the way your fingers fit between his, the steady rise and fall of your chest, the fact that you're alive and here and somehow, impossibly, still want him around.
The sun's coming up by the time a nurse finally corners him, threatening sedation if he doesn't let her treat the gunshot wound. You're properly asleep by then, fingers still tangled with his, and he lets the nurse work around your grip rather than let go.
"She's tough," the nurse comments, applying what are probably too many bandages.
"Yeah."
"And stubborn."
"Definitely."
"Good." She pats his shoulder, maternal despite being half his age. "You're going to need it."
He doesn't ask what she means. Doesn't need to. Because you're rightâhe's a disaster. A work in progress on his best days, a barely controlled catastrophe on his worst. But you looked at all that and decided he was worth fighting for anyway.
The least he can do is try to prove you right.
When you wake up again, he's there. When Dr. Cho kicks him out so you can rest, he goes to therapy and actually talks. When Sam asks if you're together now, he says yes without qualifying it.
And when you're finally released, when you're back in your apartment with its new locks and its carefully cleaned floors, when you knock on his door at midnight because the nightmares found you tooâhe opens it. No hesitation. No distance.
"Hey, neighbor," you say, and the smile you give him is worth every risk, every fear, every moment of doubt.
"Hey yourself."
You step inside, and he closes the door behind you, and for the first time in longer than he can remember, Bucky Barnes stops running from the possibility of happiness.
It's terrifying.
It's everything.
It's enough.

m.list
Not even in Xavier's most hidden dreams did you look so... ethereal.
That morning he woke up because you kept tapping his cheek. As soon as he opened his eyes, he was greeted by raw excitement.Â
âDo you remember what day today is?â you said in a squeaking voice, but still lying down because his arm pinned you to the bed and was too heavy to push.Â
Xavier closed his eyes, amused, but still with a foot in the land of dreams.Â
âI remember, starlight, you've been yelling in my ear for two weeks,â he faked annoyance while a smile tugged at his lip, shy, but daring enough to display.Â
You patted his shoulder, scoffing, âc'mon, get up, we're going to be late!âÂ
Which takes you to where the two of you were, at this precise moment.Â
Xavier, leaning back against the black sofa, looked around him, feeling out of place while being surrounded by an insurmountable amount of gownsâwhite wedding gowns.
With frills, no frills, ball gowns, mermaid, trumpet, lace corsets of any kind... he didn't understand much of it, after all, he knew you looked good in anything.
He couldnât, however, deny this blooming feeling inside of his heart, the happiness of finally making a dream come true. Finally the two of you would be united forever.
âSir?â a feminine voice shook him out of his thoughts. He glanced up,Â
A long soft gown, adorned with little ornamental flowers, while the corset was covered by flowery lace. The dress fell off the shoulders, the contrast with your skin making Xavier gulp. His eyes hadnât blinked ever since you arrived.
You made a small twirl, a grin plastered on your lips, âso, how is this one? I think I like this the most.â
Xavier thought heâd forgotten how to breathe. glancing at his cute reaction, you noticed his flushed cheeks and mouth agape. âLike unreachable stars, you shine above all,â he muttered, finally breaking the silence.
Then, to the shop clerk, âweâll take this one.â
Xavier couldnât wait for the wedding day to see you with the dress on.Â
Sylus dropped the catalogue in his hands, Mephisto froze in place.
The latter wasnât supposed to be with you at your dress fitting. At all. Except, he simply tailed the two of you, ignoring Sylusâs orders. And now, he just stopped moving altogether, as if his mechanical parts had been consumed by rust.
Then, a flap of wings, followed by several caws, to the point that Sylus had to pinch his beak to shut him up, even though he totally agreed with him.
You stood there, awkwardly at first. You were used to your fiancĂŠâSylusâbeing the type to never be intimidated by anyone and anything.
However, now his ruby eyes gleamed with something you couldnât exactly pinpoint.
Was he disappointed? Did he not like how the dress fit you? After all, it was unlike any traditional wedding dress, the gown being an inch above the knee, while several feathers trailed along the corset, down to the skirt.
Sylus slowly got up from his seat, Mephisto, now silent and offended, comfortably leaned back in Sylusâs spot.
He walked, slowly, until he was right in front of you.
âThe dress really suits you, kitten,â his teasing voice made a comeback. You sighed from relief, slapping his arm jokingly. However, you noticed how his serious expression clashed with his amused tone.
He raised a hand, subtly grazing your cheek, his gaze softening while never leaving yours.
âIt captures your freedom perfectly. I know you like to escape the most,â then he lowered his head, his breath hitting your ear as you shivered.
âBut I do think I canât wait to take this off, sweetie,â your breath hitched.
Sylus pressed a kiss behind your ear, then backed slowly. His lips now stretched in his usual grin, but a blush was indeed tinting his face.Â
It took Caleb a double take, before sprinting up, then sitting back down, his mouth ajar.
âPipsâŚâ was the only thing he managed to mutter, gulping dryly, like a man in the desert in a search to quench his thirst.
You giggled, clearly enjoying his reaction, and slowly stepped forward, twisting so that he could have a full view.
In Calebâs head, the day of the wedding had already arrived. He was ready to make you his wife right then and there, how could you look so perfect in a simple piece of clothing?
His deep purple eyes beamed with realization. It was happeningâwhat he dreamed of most was on the point of manifesting.
âBaby?â you called out to him.
He hummed in response, then sprung up on his feet, the necklace youâd gifted him years prior tingling against the zipper of his jacket.
With wide steps he was right in front of you in half a second, towering over you as you looked up and met his gaze.
Completely smitten, head over heels, you name it. Caleb wanted you more than anything, and he was finally going to have his long-time wish granted.
âThis dress fits you perfectly,â he took a hold of a stray lock of your hair, and kissed it, before gently brushing it past your ear.
Then, with no prior warning, his lips were on yours, desperate, domineering, the boutique worker gasping and turning around, embarrassed.
His warm hands cupped your cheeks, as he leaned further in, the warmth of his breath hitting you with a familiar wave.
âSorry Pips, I couldnât resist,â he smiles against your lips, pecking them one last time, before letting go. Your cheeks warm up, conscious that youâd just made out in front of people without care.
However, you found no trace of your embarrassment on Caleb, who wet his lips with his tongue and turned to the woman youâd flashed.
âThis oneâs perfect.âÂ
Rafayel tried to feign uninterest, until he could not anymore, the sight of you too beautiful and perfect to ignore.
He was sitting, his arm slouched behind the backrest of the black sofa, eyes studying the interior of the shop with little interest while waiting for you.
Youâd taken your time, clearly inexperienced in putting on a wedding gown.
Still, Rafayel was only pretending to be cool and alright, his heart thumping against his ribcage with brute force at the realisation.
He was finally going to be reunited with you, his bride, to never be separated again.
He honestly couldnât wait.
As soon as you stepped out of the changing room, your white heels clicking against the marbled floor, Rafayel gulped, hard.
Heâd loved you in each of your lifetimes, but the sight in front of him etched into his heart the desire heâd long kept unfulfilledâfor external reasons.
You smiled at him, softly, a little twirl to show him the back of the dress. His eyes fell on the pearls that adorned it, his breath hitched.
Getting up slowly, there was no point in keeping the facade any longer.
You had had him imprisoned in your cage, lulled him in with your striking beauty, like a siren does as she sings to her preyâthat was supposed to be his role, draw you in, into his grasp, stop you from slipping away. But oh, you beat him to it, and you did it every single time.
As he finally reached you, his reddish eyes fixated on you, like you were the only existing thing in that room.
âYou lookâŚâ
âNice? Horrible? Ugly?â you teased him, eyeing how his chest heaved, eyes checked your body from top to bottom, how he eased the collar of his shirt, feeling suddenly out of breath.
âOtherworldly,â he concluded. Your heart skipped a beat, a tint of red spreading over your cheeks. You werenât expecting the compliment, thatâs for sure.
Rafayelâs fingers hovered over your cheek, brushing it so lightly youâd thought itâd been a dream.Â
âOh,â you stupidly said, what could you have answered after all?
âEight-hundred years⌠and I finally can make you mine,â he let out, the thumping in your chest got louder, faster.
Yes, he liked the dress alright.Â
The way you looked made Zayne question why on earth didn't he propose earlier.Â
The stoic and unfazed doctor, with an enviable reputation at Akso Hospital, was now at your mercy, his eyes drinking in every detail of yours until his mind swirled with thoughts, some of which he dared not tell anyone about.
âSo, what does the gentleman here think of the dress?â the shop clerk asked politely, lips stretched in a wide smile as her gaze switched from you to your soon-to-be husband.
Zayne ignored her. Not that he meant to, he wasnât the kind to dismiss basic etiquette. He wouldâve said something, the point is he was unable to.
The corset hugged your waist perfectly, the visible cleavage making him gulp dryly, and the soft tulle of the gown fell down your legs smoothly, perfectly.
You stood there, feeling shy all of a sudden, under Zayneâs clouded gaze, his lips parted while his cheeks were tinted in a soft, subtle pink.
The shop clerk coughed, awkwardly, and dragged Zayne out of his trance.
âSo perfect,â he answered, renouncing the fact that she was asking about the dress and not about you.
You felt warmth wrap around you, a smile slowly shadowed your lips, and slowly stepped forward. Zayne met you in the middle, pulling his tie, stifled. His eyes, green and warm, full of affection, never left yours.
His head dropped, lips brushing your ear as your heart almost burst in your chest.
âI canât wait to make you my wife,â he whispered, not an ounce of tease or amusement coating his words. He was dead serious, and you loved his confession, heart fluttering and hands quivering.
His lips kissed your forehead, softly, then a smile slowly crept up on his lips, his features softening.Â
He squeezed your hand, subtly, until they stopped trembling, and turned to the clerk, coughing slightly.
âI like this dress,â he told her, his tone flat, back into the role of Dr Zayne of Akso Hospital.

I don't care if there's a special heaven of the righteous where you only get to go by walking right into a situation that you know will kill you, inconvenience everyone, and benefit nobody, because you were technically speaking morally correct and in the right and would literally rather die than pass up the chance to make sure that everyone knows that you are in the right. I don't fucking care because I don't want to go. I've seen what you people are like and I don't want to meet you there.

Jay's room always smells like wood smoke and something mixed with his cologne and boy musk, but you've grown way too used to it over the years. You're currently stretched out across his bed with your laptop propped against your thighs and your phone in your hand, hovering a finger over a barely there lace slip in your shopping cart. "Is it too much?" you ask, turning the screen toward him.
He barely glances up from where he's messing with his journal on his desk. "It's basically dental floss. You should get it." You snort, clicking to add it to your cart. "How supportive."
Jay turns then, walking back over with a bottle of water in hand, eyes flicking toward the screen like he's expecting more lingerie picks. He drops down beside you, one knee brushing yours, lazy and comfortable and way too familiar.
You scroll through another site, mindlessly showing him crop tops and overpriced boots. He makes stupid little comments until eventually, you lean across him to grab your charger from the nightstand beside him and your tank top slips. Just slightly thin straps sliding down your shoulder, fabric dipping lower than you meant to but it's enough for him to see them. The darkened, wine colored shadows blooming along the swell of your breasts, stark against your skin.
He goes still and you don't even notice at first, youâre too busy trying to untangle the cable, but Jay reaches without asking, curling his fingers under your strap and tugging it down a little more, his eyes sharpening. "You let him mark you up like that? Heeseung?"
You frown a little, brows raising as you glance down at where his hand is still lingering so close to your breast. Then you swat him away, annoyed. "No, Jay. The fucking tooth fairy. Who do you think?"
He doesn't laugh like you assumed he would. He leans back against the headboard, jaw tense, tongue poking the inside of his cheek like he's chewing on something he won't say. You can feel his stare, heavy and unreadable.
You roll your eyes defiantly and turn the screen back to yourself. "I didn't realize I needed to send you a memo every time I get fucked."
Jay scoffs out dry and humorless. "Guess not," he says, "just didn't think you'd still go back to him." He glances at you. "What? I didn't meet up to his standards?"
That makes you snap your head toward him. "Don't do that."
"Do what?"
"That thing. Where you act like I owe you something."
Jay laughs low under his breath. "You don't owe me shit," he says, "but maybe you could admit you liked it."
You go quiet. Just long enough for him to know he's hit a nerve and now he looks smug, but not in a gloating way, itâs in that I know what gets under your skin and I'm going to sit there and rot it out kind of way. He shifts a little closer, gaze lingering too long on your collarbone.
"You're said we were just having fun," you say, stiff.
Jay grins. "I did."
You don't know what pisses you off moreâhis smile, or the fact that part of you wanted to hear something else.
You open your mouth to say something, maybe something catty but the buzzing of your phone on his bed interrupts you.
What shitty timing, you think as Heeseung's name flashes across your screen, loud and abrupt in the quiet lull after Jay's last comment. His lips curl in amusement, and he lets out this mocking laugh, like of course it's him. "Speak of the devil," he mutters.
You want to melt into the floor or throw your phone out the window, but instead you sit frozen, watching the screen pulse with Heeseung's name.
Then it goes silentâonly for a text to flash up a second later.
Heeseung: you coming or not?
Jay hums, mean. "Such a romantic."
Your stomach drops as he reaches for your phone. "Jayâdon't," you snap, lunging forward, but he catches your wrist easily, holding the phone up and out of reach with a bored flick of his hand. You try to grab it with your free hand, but he's quicker, suddenly twisting you around with too much ease, like he knows every way you move. In one slick move, he tosses your phone across the room and catches your arm behind your back, pinning you on the bed.
"Jay!" you gasp, twisting under him.
He leans over you, lips brushing your ear. "You were really about to go crawling back to him again?" His voice is soft but razor-sharp. "After everything he's done?"
His thigh slides between yours, pining you in place. His grip on your wrist tightens a little and you can feel his warm steady breath against your cheek. "Is that what you like?" His voice is rough now. "Being treated like a fucking afterthought."
You try to twist away from him, to say something, but he turns you over and kisses you before you can, with brute force and possession. You can feel the frustration radiating off him as he swallows the sound of your protest. Your heart rate increases and you hate how quickly your body turns against you, how familiar it feels, how much worse it makes it, the fact that it's Jay. The one person who's always known how to get under your skin.
"I just didn't think you were still that easy," he says lowly, right at your ear. "Still letting him fuck you like you mean nothing."
The words sting somewhere deep in you. You try to jerk away from him, but his hand doesn't move. "That's all he does, isn't it?" Jay adds, almost casual. "Fuck you and leave. And you run back like some good little pet."
Your heart's racing faster now and youâre trying to twist harder in his grip.
But he cuts you off by pressing in, his lips brushing your jaw in a cold and measured contact. "You let him treat you like that. But I'm the one you keep in your bed?" He asks. "Don't think that's fair."
You're too stunned to respond and he knows it. Jay releases you just as suddenly as he grabbed you, pulling away like it didn't mean anything, like he hadn't just shifted the air in the room.
He doesn't even apologize, he just watches you with that stoic look in his eyes, waiting to see what you'll do next. His eyes never leaving yours, even as he stands up from the bed.
You're panting, chest rising and falling as you sit back up on the bed, glaring at his retreating figure. He's already halfway across the room, calm like nothing happened, when he says, too offhandedly, "Your mom called me."
You frown, confused. "What?"
He looks at you. "Said you haven't been eating."
Your stomach twists and you shoot up to your feet, face hot with frustration. "You bring that up now?" you snap, breath catching in your throat. "Seriously?"
Jay just shrugs like he doesn't see why you're upset, like it's just another data point he's sliding across the table. "I'm just trying to show you what he does to you," he says simply.
Your jaw clenches. "Don't blame Heeseung for that," you bite out, angrier now. "I had issues with food way before him. You know that."
There's a pause and the air in the room feels way too heavy for how quiet it is.
He doesn't argue this time, he just flops on the bed again and says, "Come here."
You don't move at first, you shouldn't moveâin fact you should get your shit and leave his apartment. But his voice is soft and smooth and too familiar, like a trigger your body's been unfortunately conditioned to obey.
You go, as if something tugs you forward, your legs moving even without your consent.
He's sitting on the edge of the bed by the time you reach him, and without asking or saying a word, he takes your wrists and pulls you into his lap, guiding your thighs to straddle him.
You settle there, shaky and annoyed, but too used to the way this goes to resist. His hands settle on your hips, holding you there. "Iâm not the problem." he says, looking up at you. "I'm the one who cares, baby."
You stare back at him. At his straight face. At the boy who always knows exactly when to twist the knife.
You don't answer him right away.
Because all you can think of is how this whole fucked up thing between you and Jay didn't even start with care. Not really.
It started with rage.
Two nights after your third breakup with Heeseung.
You'd shown up to Jay's apartment with mascara bleeding under your eyes, your hoodie sleeves pulled over trembling fingers, and that look you always wore when you were ready to swear Heeseung off for good.
Jay didn't say a word when he opened the door. Just stepped aside and let you in. You stormed past him, fuming, fists clenched like you wanted to punch something.
"I'm done," you'd said. "This time I mean it. He can fuck himselfâhe can rot."
Jay had nodded, slow. "So he said it again."
You broke. Right there on his couch. Hot, angry tears spilled down your cheeks, your voice cracking with how bitter it all tasted. You told Jay everything. What Heeseung said, even what he didn't say and how he always knew just how to keep you hooked.
Jay sat there the whole timeâlegs spread, arms resting over the back of the couch, like he was soaking it in.
And then he leaned forward, pressing a hand to your thigh. "Let me help." His voice was quiet, measured even. "I could make you feel better? OrâŚforget?"
You didn't really know what he meant until he dropped to his knees. You definitely didnât expect the way he grabbed you by the hips, dragged you down until your back hit the cushions of his couch. You didn't expect how gentle he was when he peeled your sweats down, your underwear off. How he kissed the insides of your thighs like they were bruises only he could soothe.
How he saidâ"Just let me do this. You don't have to think."
And you didn't think, in fact you couldnât. His mouth was too goodâhot, slow and sinful, tongue fucking into your soaked pussy like he was trying to reclaim every inch of you Heeseung had tainted. He moaned when you gripped his hair, when you cried out, "JayâJay, I'mâ"
You came with your fists in his hair and your mouth slack from the shock of it, thighs shuddering where heâd placed them over his shoulders. You'd never cum like that before, not even with Heeseung.
He just looked up at you, lips wet, expressionless. "Feel better?" he'd asked.
You could barely nod.
But that was how it started and how it didn't stop.
After that night, you kept coming back. You told yourself it was casual, just a physical thing to get your mind off your ex. Jay never made a big deal about any of it, never even asked for more.
Until he found out you'd gone back to Heeseung.
He didn't yell or sulk that day. He just looked at you one morning while you were still naked in his sheets, and said, "So you let him fuck you again?"
You froze, mind scrambling for a lie to give him, but nothing came out.
He didn't press further or accuse you of anything. He stared at the ceiling and muttered, almost to himself,
"I didn't realize you liked crawling back to someone who doesn't even pretend to care about you."
And then he got out of bed.
He didn't touch you for two weeks after that. Not until you caved and showed up at his door at 1am, asking if he hated you. He just gave you that same look and pulled you into his lap like always.
Jay never needed to yell, he only needed you to come back. And somehow you always did.
The memories fade, but Jay's mattress is still beneath your knees and his hands are still coasting lazily over the backs of your thighs, because to him he's always had the right to touch you. He's moved up against the headboard now, taking you with him, dark hair messy from where you yanked it earlier. His eyes pin you in place with calm surface to them but cold calculations rippling underneath.
His thumbs press just above the curve of your hips.
"Promise me you're done with him."
It isn't a question, it's merely a line in the sand. No heat, no coaxing, just the terms of staying right here. Your mouth parts, but no sound comes out. Jay lifts one brow, waiting.
"I...can try," you whisper, hating how small it sounds.
He shakes his head once. "Not good enough." Followed by a slow inhale, an almost disappointed one. "I've cut off half the girls I see for youâstopped answering DMs, stopped returning calls. You know that."
You do and part of you was always stupidly flattered every time a name disappeared from his phone.
Jay's fingers slide under the hem of your tank, thumbs brushing skin. "So here's what you're gonna do." His voice stays level, matter of fact, with nothing pleading or cruel. "You're going to block him. Delete the number. The next time he wants someone to fuck when he's bored, he can call literally anyone else."
You swallow, feeling the air too thick in your chest.
"Say it," he demands, eyes never leaving yours. "Promise me."
You despise your pulse for fluttering and that it feels like gravity tilting the room. But all you manage is a small nod and a softer, "Okay...I promise."
Something in his jaw unclenches as his palms slide up your sides, settling possessively at your ribcage. "Good girl," he says, and it isn't praise so much as confirmation that you've aligned yourself correctly. His hands guide you down until your chest brushes his. "Keep me happy," he adds, voice almost gentle, "and I'll keep making you forget why he ever mattered."
Your eyes flutter shut, equal parts relief and dread. You want to keep him happy. God, you do. Even if it means burning every other bridge until only Jay's hands are left to catch you.
So you kiss him, seal the promise on his tongue, and try not to notice how pleased he sounds when you sigh into his mouthâlike he's already sure you'll never break your word.
He laughs into your mouth condescendingly, like he's entertained by you and it knocks the rhythm right out of your kiss.
"Fuck," he murmurs when you bite down on his bottom lip, his hand tightening briefly at your waist. But it's still followed by a chuckle, smug, cruel and lazy. "You're so eager now. Look at you."
You grind down on him, hips shifting instinctively, desperate to make a point, but it only makes him laugh harder. "Aww." He tilts his head, voice thick with derision. "Look who thinks she knows how to ride now."
Your stomach flips as you feel the heat of shame curling with arousal prickling up your neck.
"So precious," he keeps going, hand dragging down the small of your back, right over the curve of your ass. "You kiss like you're starving, but your hips still falters every time."
"Shut up," you mutter, breathless, but it comes out whinier than you want.
"Oh, now you're embarrassed?" His smile sharpens. "Didn't seem so shy when you were humping me just now."
You shove at his chest, but his hands only tighten, grounding you in place, locking your body against his.
"Go ahead," he says, softly now, teeth grazing the underside of your jaw. "Get mad, but prove me wrong, baby. Show me you finally learned how to fuck me properly."
And fuckâhe knows exactly what he's doing. His voice, his words, his mouth, all of it designed to crack you open. He drags the shame, defiance and desire out of you like he's mining for gold.
Your hands shake a little where they press to his chest.
But you roll your hips anyway.
Because God help you, you do want to prove him wrong. But when he doesn't move you nearly falter like he predicted, he doesn't help you or even touch you, he's leaned back against the headboard, arms spread uselessly beside your knees, his expression deadpan but his eyes locked on you with sharp, dark, and maddening patience.
You're the one shifting on top of him, dragging your skirt up around your hips with trembling fingers, your breathing shaky as you tug your panties to the side yourself. He doesn't make a sound, not even when you reach down between the two of you to palm him through his sweats, trying to coax his cock hard.
Still, he just watches. You're a private show, meant only for him. Not someone he's touching, but someone he's witnessing, every breath and movement is a performance he can't tear his eyes from.
His dick twitches in your hand, slowly filling, but he gives no reactionânot a moan, not a sigh, not even a shift of his hips. Just that steady gaze that makes your skin burn.
"You wonât help me?" you whisper, a little breathless.
He shrugs, that same frustrating smirk on his lips. "Thought you were trying to prove you could ride me good now."
You glare at him, fingers curling tighter around the base of his cock. You stroke him a little rougher than necessary, but he only raises a brow like he dares you to keep going.
"Come on," he murmurs, voice low, goading. "Figure it out. You wanted to be the one in control, didn't you?"
You press your lips together, swallowing a shaky breath as you line him up, lowering yourself slowly on the thickness of him and shaking just slightly, fingers clutching his shoulders for balance.
You gasp as the bulbous head of his cock slips in. But he just watches quietly like heâs waiting.
And somehow, to you that's worse than anything he could've even said.
You're whimpering, trying to take more of him rolling your hips just right, moving slow and deliberate like you think he wants. Like you hope he wants.
Your hands brace on his chest, your thighs burning already, and you move with every ounce of desperation you can musterâarching your back, biting your lip, trying to look as sexy and confident as you can manage.
But inside, it's sheer panic. Because you know what Jay could have, you know all the other girls he's brushed off for you. All the girls who would've killed to be in your place, bouncing perfectly in his lap, earning his soft praises and smug grins.
What if one of them would've been better? What if you're justâŚforgettable?
The jealousy twists sharp in your gut. And the need to matter and to mean something to Jay pushes you harder. You grind your hips down with more focus, swiveling just right, clenching around him tight and desperate.
And it finally pulls a real moan from him. It seems so raw and almost involuntary, but your heart stutters in your chest anyway.
You look down at him through your lashes, still rocking your hips, barely breathing. "Am I..." Your voice is shaky. "...doing good?"
Jay's eyes lift to meet yoursâhalf-lidded and blown black, finally trailing his hand up to rest on your waist, not guiding you yet, just holding.
He exhales slowly, like the sight of you ruins him.
"So good," he croons. "So fucking good, baby."
And like that, you feel your whole body light up with relief, pride and maybe even power. Like maybe youâre finally enough for him.
His fingers suddenly tighten around your waist, and without warning he starts moving you himself, bouncing you harder on his cock. Itâs not gentle or kind like you had hoped it would be when youâd asked him to help you. No, Jay is using his strength like it's second nature, like he's been waiting for you to tire out just so he could take over.
Your breath punches out of your lungs when your hips are dragged down hard, the thick length of his throbbing cock pushing in deeper than you'd dared to go on your own.
"Jayâ!" you cry out, head snapping back, thighs trembling. But he's already covering your mouth with one large palm.
"Shhh," he breathes, lips brushing your cheek as he leans forward. "You're gonna get me a noise complaint, baby."
You can't help the way your eyes roll back, the stretch, the pressure, the depth of him inside you making your body seize with too much sensation. "Mmpfh."
His grip on your waist is absolutely bruising, dragging you down again and again, faster and harder. Your moans go muffled into his hand, your fingers clutching at his shoulders, your body turning to nothing but a puppet in his lap.
And Jay just watches you fall apart with that same infuriating calmness. "Look at you," he mutters. "Didn't even know how to ride it right five minutes ago."
His voice is smug and dirty. "But now? Now you're screaming for it." He says shifting his body a little, just his hands, one still rests at your waist while the other slips off your mouth and between your bodies, fingers seeking out your clit with perfected ease. You gasp when he finds you, the slick sound of your wetness absurd in the quiet of the room.
He presses his thumb just right and you jolt, the sudden pressure driving you dangerously closer to the edge. Your hips start to stutter, rhythm completely lost, but he picks it up for youâgripping your waist and moving you with a strength you'd forgotten he liked to flex. The next thrust is deeper, more brutal, and your head tips back with a cry, body arching into his. "Jâay! NghâYâyes! There! There!"
Jay doesn't let up at all. "You're babbling now," he says, voice like velvet and venom. "What, you getting stupid for me already?"
You try to respond but your mouth won't cooperate, nothing comes out but a broken whine. Your limbs are trembling, your head swimming. He can feel it in the way you're squeezing around him, right on the brink.
Then he leans forward, mouth at your ear, voice a low rasp, "Do it again."
Your whole body slows to the stiff point. You know exactly what he means, exactly what it means and panic flares across your face, just for a second. Then his hand is on your throat, but not to choke you, just guiding you and pressing you gently back down onto the bed. Your back hits the sheets, chest heaving and Jay climbs over you, slow and deliberate, gaze fixed on yours.
You don't have to say a word. He sees the desperate, delirious relief in your eyes now that heâs on top. The smirk that spreads across his face is so mean and satisfied.
"There she is," he whispers, brushing your hair back with mock affection. "Right where you belong."
Then he moves inside you again, and your world splits open. The new angle is different and itâs letting his cock brush something achingly good inside you.
Your mouth opens, forming a silent no, but it's already happening, he's coaxing it out of you with the same rough rhythm, the same maddening meticulousness.
Your body starts to stiffen again as the pressure boils over, and just as you start to panic more. "Relax," he breathes. "Let it happen."
"I said do it again."
Your thighs quake. The wet slap of skin, the slick mess between your bodiesâit's so overwhelming, so humiliating, and so perfect.
You choke on a gasp as your orgasm crashes down, blinding and involuntary, and then it happens. You feel it. The heat, the release, the wet flood you tried to hold back.
Jay's eyes light up, fucking triumphant. "Look at the mess you made," he says low, like he's proud of you and taunting you all at once. His hand glides down, wet with you, lifting his soaked fingers to your mouth. "Open."
You do. Of course you do.
He pushes two fingers past your lips, and you suck them obediently, tongue swirling slow even as your chest still heaves from the aftershocks. His eyes darken.
"You like it nasty, don't you?" he mumbles, pulling his hand away with a wet pop, dragging your jaw open with his thumb. "So fucking easy."
He shifts then, the weight of him pressing your legs wider as he strokes himself once, twice, and not gently. He's so hard and even almost angry with it, and it makes you realize he's been holding back, waiting for you to cum first.
He leans forward, teeth at your jaw, whispering, "You want to be used, right? That's what Heeseung doesn't get. You don't need love. You need to be ruined."
Then he pushes deep in again, faster and meaner.
You scream a loud sound you really try to swallow but it comes out anyway.
He doesn't hold back this time, his pace is rougher now, desperate, driven by something darker. He holds your leg up over his shoulder, trying to mark his name into the deepest part of you.
"Fuck," he grits, breath coming hot against your throat. "You're still so wetâsqueezing me like you want me to finish inside."
You can't seem to form any sensible thoughts so you just grip his shoulders like a lifeline, head rolling back, another moan choking in your throat.
"Still so tight," he pants, sweat dripping down his temple, his thumb dragging across your spit-slick mouth. "Still...fuckâstill letting him fuck you like you're not already mine."
You sob when he shifts your legs higher, deeper now, hitting that spot that makes you claw at the sheets.
"Jayâ" it's all you can manage, too far gone to stop him but too full of him to breathe. But itâs not like he's even listening. Not really. He's watching the way you fall apart, as if he's memorizing the proof that he can still undo you this thoroughly.
His hips pulse, the rhythm of them breaking downâhe's close. You feel the way his breath goes jagged, the way his arms start to tremble, how his teeth dig into the underside of your jaw before he groans right there, like he's in pain.
"I'm gonna cum," he grits, voice tight. "You want it, don't you?"
You nod frantically, already crying from the sheer overstimulation. He's everywhereâhis scent, his voice, the weight of him fucking you into the mattress.
"Say it."
You try, you do really try. "Want itâwant you to cumâinside, please, Jay, pleaseâ"
And that's what does it for him. He buries his cock inside you to the hilt with a broken sound, hips grinding into you as he cums hard, long and deep, filling you with thick ropes of his cum until you swear you can feel it pooling inside. His whole body jerks, muscles clenching, breath catching at the base of his throat. He stays like that for a long moment, frozen over you, forehead pressed to yours, both of you slick with sweat and sex and something even heavier.
He props himself up on his hands to look down at you when both your breathing slows, but he still doesnât pull out. He just stares down at you, still inside, his hand sliding up your ribs until it's cradling your jaw.
"Next time you go back to him..." His thumb strokes over your bottom lip. "I'm done with you."
"And if you do...you better make sure I donât find out."
His voice isn't even loud but it's steady and enough to make your stomach drop. He ignores the look on your face and shifts your panties back in place then gets off you.
Sometime between the kisses he peppered all over your face, the threat and the uber he'd ordered you, Jay had helped you get dressed again, his touch cool and careful, not speaking as he smoothed your hair down and tucked your phone back into your hand like a peace offering.
You're curled up on your bed, thumb hovering over the keyboard of your phone, the half-typed message to Heeseung glowing like a bruise.
you: ok fine. you win. when?
You stare at it too long, not because you're hesitant but because you know you should be. True to your word and your promise to Jay you had deleted Heeseung's number but you hadn't blocked it, and what use was that when you had it memorized.
Jay had looked you in the eye not even an hour ago and basically told you to choose between them. And maybe you'd meant to take it seriously. Maybe.
But then the soft thud against the glass pane of your window that has you blinking and turning you headâchanges everything.
And there he is, changing everything. Heeseung.
Climbing through your window like it he would when you first started dating, but it's not with a smile and an embarrassed chuckle like those days, it's with a frown.
He's mad.
You can tell from the second his feet hit your floor, his jaw locked tight, his eyes raking over you with that specific brand of fury only Heeseung has, thatâs quiet and cold, but mean under the surface.
His gaze drops to your legs tucked beneath you on the bed, your wrinkled tank, your flushed skin, and something shifts in his expressionâtighter, darker.
"Why the fuck didn't you answer my text?" he says, voice low but sharp enough to cut.
You swallow hard. Your phone's still in your hand, the screen glowing with the message you never sent. He sees it.
"I was gonnaâ"
"Yeah?" He takes a step closer. "You were gonna what?"
You flinch at the heat between your legs cooling too slowly, the sticky ache of Jay still clinging to you. You didn't even shower or change, the drop in serotonin you experienced after leaving Jay's house left you in a rut.
And now Heeseung's standing here, inches away, breathing the same air as you.
He stops beside your bed, looking down at you, and you can't seem to meet his eyes.
Your shame feels loud, you're even scared he can probably smell it on you.
All your fears are validated when he grabs you by the ankle, one strong hand curling around and dragging you down the bed like a ragdoll. You gasp, your phone slipping from your grip as your back hits the mattress edge.
"Don't ignore me," he mutters, but it's distracted now. His hands are already on your thighs, pushing your skirt up. You squirm, legs instinctively snapping shut, but he doesn't allow that, never does. He spreads you open with one rough motion, ready to scold you, tease you, touch you but then he looks between your legs and his hands stop moving.
Your panties are soaked. Still a little askew. You hadn't fixed them right. Hadn't bothered.
You watch his face twist in real timeâbrows pinching, mouth parting slightly, like he can't seem to believe what he's seeing.
"What the fuck?" he says, low, breathless. "Did you let someone else fuck you?"
Your stomach flips violently. You try to sit up, to cover yourself, to explain, to say something but he grips your inner thigh tighter, forcing you to stay open.
His voice is flat now. "Who was it?"
He blinks at your silence.
And then, without even looking at you, just staring down at the complete mess between your legs, he lets out a laugh. It's not loud, it's not even mean at first, it's actually almost like he's stunned.
"So you're a little slut now, huh?" he whispers.
The word hits you like a punch to the stomach. Your chest caves in a little. Not because of what he said, but because he said it. Heeseungâwho's never called you that. Who's always had this unspoken softness for you, even when he was being cruel. Even when he was distant or cold or high out of his mind, he'd never call you out of your name.
"You don't get to say that," you whisper, voice shaking. "We're not evenâ" You break off, choking on the heat rising in your throat. "We're not together anymore."
"Right," he scoffs, running a hand through his hair. "You just keep my name in your phone. Keep my number on speed dial. Let me fuck you whenever I want. But now suddenly I don't even get to ask?"
"You don't," you snap. Your hands slam into his chest, weakly at first then harder the second time. "Get out. Get the fuck out, Heeseung."
He doesn't budge.
You push him again, as hard as you can, trying to guide him toward the window he so casually crawled through as if things were normal between you two. "You can't just show up here andâand check my fucking underwearâ"
That makes him grin. A slow, infuriating grin.
You hate him.
You want to cry.
"You're really throwing a tantrum right now?" he says coolly, dodging your push like it's child's play. He catches both your wrists with one hand, effortlessly holding them in place. "What happened to that little whimpering mess I had in my lap last weekend?"
"Fuck you," you spit, writhing in his grip, breath catching. "You don't get to shame me and then act like you care!"
He just shrugs. "Didn't say I cared."
Then his grip tightens just enough to make you stop squirming. "But I'm not leaving either."
He walks right past you like you're not even standing there, like the argument didn't just happen. He moves with lazy arroganceâshoulders relaxed, hands in his pockets.
You watch, stunned, as he sinks down into your bed, like he's done it a hundred times before. Which in his defense, he has.
He reaches over to your nightstand and picks up your phone. Just grabs it, thumbing through your screen, looking for God knows what, maybe the name of the person he's so sure you fucked earlier.
Your throat is too tight. Your fists clench by your sides, but he doesn't even glance at you, he's sat there, scrolling through your phone and the silence starts to ache.
Then he looks up.
Expression calmer now. "Go shower." He says with a flat and final tone.
You don't move, the twist in your stomach and the ache in your chest from the shame blooming there makes it hard to move. The worst part is that you don't even know if it's from what he said, or the fact that a part of you wants to listen.
"Now," he adds, eyes flicking back down to your phone.
Like you're just some mess he needs to clean up. You do as you're toldâof course you do because Heeseung said so.
Your bathroom light is too bright, too exposing. You scrub harder than you need to, the soap scalding your skin as the shame now settles thick in your chest. You clean yourself like you're trying to erase something. Like you can.
What if Jay calls? What if Heeseung picks up?
Your mind races as you step back into the room, wrapped in a towel, your hair dripping, your skin flushed from the too-hot water. Heeseung looks up from where he's sprawled across your sheets and laughs, so casually amused.
"That supposed to impress me?" he asks, gesturing to the towel. "Like rinsing off some other dudes cum suddenly makes you clean?"
"Cute," he says, tilting his head. "You look nervous. Is it guilt or just performance?"
"Don't just stand there," he says after a beat, voice slow like syrup, sliding back into his usual apathy. "You think we're gonna cuddle or something?"
You shift uncomfortably, still frozen in place, clutching your towel.
He finally sits up, rolling his shoulders back, spreading his legs and patting the edge of the bed like he's calling a dog.
And somehow, stupidly, your body moves before your brain tells it not to.
You sit beside him, still shaking a little, heart hammering against the wet towel. You don't look at him, and you wish he couldn't see the panic painted all over your skin.
He doesn't touch you.
Just leans closer, nose grazing your ear, voice flat and low.
"I'm not gonna fuck you in the same hole you just gave another guy." He exhales a soft, sharp breath
You jolt, but his hand grips your waist tight enough to make you shut up and stay still. "You wanna make it up to me?" he says, voice so calm it cuts deeper. "Then get on all fours. Be useful for once."
"You know what I want."
The worst part is that you do know and you feel it breaking something open inside youâsomething ugly and raw and so, so tired.
But regardless of the tiredness, your body still moves.
Because that's what you've always done when it comes to Heeseung.
He shifts over you, his chest grazing your back, towel slipping as he cages you in. His mouth brushes your shoulder in a slow deliberate kiss, laced with the kind of false tenderness that makes your skin crawl. You shiver, more from the pressure than the heat of it.
Then he reaches around and pushes two fingers between your lips.
"Open up for me, angel face." he says, voice low and close to your ear and when you hesitate, his other hand presses down on your lower back, a clear warning. You part your lips, and he pushes the fingers deeper, right against your tongue. You nearly gag, your cheeks heating with sheer mortification. He doesn't move them until your saliva begins to pool around them.
"That's enough," he says, yanking them out and watching a strand of saliva cling between your lips and his fingers.
Without pause, he brings that spit slick hand behind you, reaching between your ass cheeks, spreading you open.
He coats his cock with the spit lazily, intentionally letting you feel every second of the slow glide of his fingers against you. You flinch when he teases the tight ring of muscle, his voice flattening into something amused.
"What?" he asks, tauntingly innocent. "You gave him your pussy. I'm just working with what's left."
You squeeze your eyes shut, thinking of how his cruelty has never sounded this casual.
"You should be grateful," he continues, positioning himself behind you. "Most guys wouldn't want you after that. But me?"
He chuckles.
"I'll still fuck you."
His hand comes up to your throat in a choke. A reminder, as his hips press in slowly, forcing your body to adjust. Your legs tremble, stretched awkwardly on your knees, hands digging into the mattress. You can barely breathe through the sting, and he hasn't even started moving yet.
"You look so pathetic right now." He says, feeling the way the walls of your asshole spasm around him as he pushes in deeper, hot and slick with your saliva and his precum. "Poor you, helpless and weak. You just take me whenever I show up, uhn?"
You squirm in pleasure at his words, nodding, repeatedly moaning words about being his slut and for him to give you his cock, completely forgetting about the promise you just made Jayâlike a true whore.
"Yeah?" He taunts you, slipping one hand under you to your tit and pinching your nipple so hard you arch your back at it, arching into him as you feel the pain shoot all the way through you in pleasure. "You're only good for taking my cum, right angel face?"
A gasp rips from your throat when his nails bite down on your nipple again, the sting shooting straight through you. Waves of goosebumps ripple across your skin, relentless, and all you can do is nod harder, desperate to keep up. "AhâHee, oh my god!"
"Shhh, isn't your mum home? You want her to come in here and see me fucking your needy hole? See how much of a fucking slut her daughter is?" You shake your head violently but the drag of his cock against your walls and the slap of his balls against your cunt that's dripping onto the bed as you doing otherwise.
His thrusts stay unrelenting, each one a willful reminder that this is only about release, not some sort of reunion. He leans down, mouth beside your ear, the rasp of his breath harsher than the slap of skin against skin.
"This doesnât mean we're getting back together?" His laugh is cold and cruel, hips snapping forward harder just to hear you gasp. "Keep dreaming. I'll fuck you, but I'll never get back together with you again."
You clench around him, feeling the shame, hurt and sheer pleasure all tangled, and he hisses, the smile in his voice turning near vicious.
"That's itâtighten up like you donât believe me," he taunts, hand curling in your hair to keep your face buried in the pillow. "We're done, angel face. You're just a convenient hole I'll use when I'm bored."
He punctuates every word with another sharp thrust, voice dropping even lower. "So stop pretending, stop hopingâbecause when I pull out, I'm gonna walk away, and you'll still be nothing but leftovers in another guy's bed."
Youâre nearly in tears at his words, feeling it pooling on your lash line. Youâre starting regret breaking your promise to Jay or for not standing your ground and pushing Heeseung out of your window. "HeeâHeeseung, please."
In one swift motion he pulls out and drags you to the edge of the bed and onto your back, pushing in again, completely ignoring your pleas. "Oh fuck! Shitâs so fucking tightâYou let him fuck you here?"
"No! NâNever!" your response has him fucking forward faster, pinning your knees to your shoulders as he fucks deeper and rubs his fingers all over your clenching pussy. "You gonna squirt for me like a good girl?"
The sounds your pussy is making are messy and obscene, and when he hooks two fingers inside your pussy and curls them up? You don't stand a chance in the world, you cum hard, body spasming violently as the liquid shoots out of your cunt and sprays his chest and stomach, he laughs at the sight, "Yeahhh, there we go."
It drives him on towards his own orgasm. He thrusts faster and harder, pushing your legs into your chest harder, so hard that all you can do is bask in the pain. Your ass is burning deliciously, your pussy is hot, and your clit swollen as he finally groans and spills inside you. Hot strings of his cum filling your ass, making you keen and moan at the delicious feeling.
His skin is slick against yours as he falls over you, caging you in with your sweat cooling in the dim glow of your bedside lamp. You lie tangled together on the rumpled sheets, the aftermath of your stormy reunion thrums through every nerve of your body. His breathing comes out in ragged gasps as he shifts, body weighted onto you.
His hand drifts across your waist, the pads of his fingers rough where he's still too worked up. He leans in, voice clipped on your neck, every word laced with that familiar sting, "Don't get soft on me now, angel face. I'm not your boyfriend again."
Your heart thumps at the barb because you want him to be. But instead you force the usual shrug, feigning like you donât care and wincing at the ache between your legs.
"Yeah," you whisper, a little out of breath. "I know."
He presses closer, chest against your spine, and you feel the heat of his body like something too close to a claim for someone who just outwardly said he doesnât want to be with you again.
"Good," he mutters through a sharp exhale. "Then you know I'm sleeping here. Don't bother moving."
You don't argue, not because you donât see the need but because youâre far too exhausted and you know damn well he wonât listen to you anyway. You're too used to his cold commands and your quiet yielding, so you let him pull you tighter, you let his arm settle across your ribs.
No kisses or soft words or aftercare, at least Jay had tried to make you look more presentableâsmoothing out your skirt and trying to tame your here itâs just the steady thump of Heeseungâs heartbeat against your back and the whir of the street outside your house.
You close your eyes, mind drifting instead to Jay as you try to ignore the not so soothing circles Heeseungâs thumb is rubbing into your stomach.
He'll kill me, you think, eyelids heavy. He said he'd be done if he finds out, he actually said to make sure he doesnât find out. The worry threads through you, sharp and anxious, but sleep drags you under before you can chase it down.
And for a moment, you're caught between their worldsâHeeseung's cold possession holding you in the dark, and Jay's promise of finality echoing in your head as you drift off.
You wake up to the sound of someone exhaling sharply through their nose, itâs not quite a sigh, not quite a laugh. But it's enough to pull you from the tangle of sleep, your limbs feel heavy and your skin is too warm beneath the sheets. Your body aches, but not sore in the good way, this is in the used up and exhausted way.
There's a dull throb between your legs and the rawness in your throat reminds you that you cried hard last night. For a second, you don't even remember where you are, but then you shift, and the bare skin against yours moves with you.
Heeseung still asleep beside you, with his chest rising and falling steadily. One of his arms is draped across your waist. You're completely naked with sticky thighs and a dull ache between your ass cheeks. The air in your room feels wrung out and the smell of sex is clinging to the sheets.
That same breath comes again and you realize itâs not from Heeseung, so you blink your eyes open.
And Jay is standing above you.
Dressed in sweats and a white tee that clings to him like second skin. His face is stoic, eyes flicking between the shape of you under your blanket and the man lying beside you.
Your heart stops, it actually stops before crashing into a violent rhythm inside your chest.
"Wow," Jay says, voice calm in that terrifyingly low way. "Not even twenty-four hours."
You shoot upright, dragging the sheet over your chest, like it'll somehow undo everything or erase the guilt growing like mold in your throat, threatening to suffocate you. You feel exposed and nauseous, like you could throw up right there in the bed.
"Jayâ" you start, voice cracking.
But he just lifts his hand, not even to silence you, just so incredibly dismissively. Like your words aren't even worth hearing.
"Your mum said you didn't eat dinner," he says after a beat, not even looking at you now. "That's why I came. She said she was headed out for the day. Thought I could check on you."
Your stomach sinks. Shame slams into you so fast you have to look away. You want to be so angry at your mother for thinking Jay is so responsible with you but you canât because he is responsible, especially with you.
Heeseung starts to stir at the sound of voices around him. He blinks up at Jay, completely unbothered. "What the fuckâ?"
You can't breathe, not to talk of move. You feel like a child about to be punished, or more like a criminal caught red handed, but worse than all that, you feel absolutely pathetic.
"Is this how you let random guys barge into your room now?" Heeseung grumbles, rubbing his eyes. He squints at Jay. "The fuck are you even doing here?"
You want to scream at him to shut up. You want to cry, as you watch Jay stare into your eyes.
Heeseung sits up slowly, scoffing under his breath. "Get the fuck out, dude."
Jay doesn't budge or even feign like heâs about to. No, instead he plants himself at the foot of the bedâarms crossed, back straight, that unnerving calm carved into every line of his face. His gaze stays glued to you, not even wavering when Heeseung pushes up onto an elbow, blanket slipping low across his hips.
"Get dressed," Jay says, voice quiet but completely resolute. He isn't loud, because remember? he doesn't ever have to be. The authority in his voice is always ice cold and precise.
You scramble at the sheets, fully dizzy with panic, shame and adrenaline. Your hands are shaking so badly you can't tell if you're gripping cotton or fucking air.
Heeseung scoffs, a bark of incredulous laughter. "Who the fuck are you to tell her what to do?"
Jay doesn't still spare him a glance. He just extends a lazy hand toward your dresser. "Clothes. Now."
Heeseung's eyes narrow, confusion dawning into something uglier. "Wait." He sits all the way up, raking his gaze over Jay's face, then yours. "Hold on. Is thisâ" He points between the two of you, lips curling. "You? You're the guy who fucked her?"
You fathom speaking now, even though he truth is screaming inside your skull, your throat feels cemented shut.
Heeseung lets out another humorless laugh. "Wow. Your so called best friend, huh?" He looks you over, disgust edging his tone. "You'll really spread your legs for just anyone, won't you?"
The words punch a hole straight through your chest, it has your vision blurring, but you still slide from the bed, clutching the sheet to the front of your bodyâthe ache between your ribs way louder than the ache between your legs.
Jay's jaw flexes, but he doesn't rise to the bait of Heeseung referring to him as just anyone. He still doesnât look at him. Rather, he turns slightly, exposing his profile to you, creating a corridor of privacy in the room that somehow excludes Heeseung entirely.
"Drawer," he says softly. "I'm counting to ten."
The absurdity of it almost makes you laughâor sob. You stumble to your dresser, jerk it open, and pull the first t-shirt you find over your head. Your fingers fumble with a pair of panties. You feel Heeseung's stare on your back, burning with hate and disbelief.
Jay murmurs, "Eight...nineâ"
You wrench the panties up just as he reaches ten, heart jack-hammering in your throat. Then you stand there, arms wrapped around yourself, sheet puddled at your feet like evidence.
Finally Jay shifts his gaze to Heeseungâslow and intentional with his eyes flat and glacier cold. "Out," he says. One syllable and absolutely nothing more.
Heeseung brims with tension, rising from the bed. "Fucking make me."
The air in your room turns heavy, electric, charged with something darker than anger. You tug the oversized shirt lower on your thighs, cheeks burning, pulse rabbiting beneath your skin. You should tell one of them to leave, you should scream, you should do something. Instead you stand there uselessly with a pounding heart and a twisted gut while the two men who know your body like a map stare each other down over the wreckage of your sheets.
Jay breaks the silence first, voice low. "You promised."
Heeseung lets out a dry laugh, eyes flicking to you, then back. "And? She promised me once too. Didn't stop her moaning my name last night while I fucked her ass."
Your breath catches so hard you think you might faint. You taste shame, guilt and itâs something sour that turns strangely sweet when both their gazes snap to you at the same time, like you're the prize in a game neither of them intends to lose.
"You proud of that?" Jay asks, still calm, but you hear the steel under the words.
Heeseung's smirk widens. "Looks like she is," he says, nodding at the way your knees knock together, the way your fingers twist in the hem of the shirt that ridiculously smells like Jay's detergent and Heeseung's sweat. "Little thing's shaking."
Your stomach flips with equal parts dread and a perverse thrill. Yesterday's memories flash hard behind your eyes, both of them inside your head, under your skin. You know you'll never be able to choose. Because part of you likes this, you like their attention crashing over you from both sides, two tidal waves colliding with you caught in the undertow.
Jay steps closer, toying with your phone in his palm. "Show him you can fucking follow instructions." he says quietly, gaze never leaving Heeseung.
The command sinks into your bones, all too familiar and unraveling. Your lips part but you don't even know what you're about to say or do. But then Heeseung's hand snakes out, catching your wrist and pulling you toward him instead.
"She listens to me just fine," Heeseung declares, fingers sliding to your chin, forcing your head back so you're looking up at him. "Don't you, angel face?"
You swallow, throat tight. A tiny sound, half-whimper, half-yes escapes your lips.
Jay's eyes are blazing when Heeseung shifts you to have your back against his chest. His hand traces a slow, infuriatingly confident line down your stomach, and you flinch at the intimacy of it. You don't even have time to move before Heeseung's mouth is right beside your ear, dragging a lazy kiss against your neck, possessive and smug.
Jay doesn't say anything, but his eyes darken, you see it and so does Heeseung.
"Seriously?" Jay finally mutters, voice low, somewhere between daze and something shockingly hungrier. "You're letting him touch you like that, right in front of me?"
Heeseung just laughs, warm breath skating over your shoulder as his hand slips lower, palming your pussy like he has every right to. "You can't look away though, can you?" he says, eyes fixed on Jay now, goading. "What's the matter? Didn't get enough yesterday?"
Jay's fists curl at his sides but he doesn't move, the tension radiating off of him is palpable. His stare drops to where Heeseung's hand is inside your panties you put on, groping like he's testing ownership.
"You're disgusting," Jay snaps, but his voice is thinner now, less conviction. His gaze is low and lingering.
Heeseung hums. "And you're hard."
That hits Jay like a gunshot and he freezes, nostrils flaring because he is hard.
Heeseung turns his attention back to you, smirking a little. His fingers slip between the folds of your pussy, finding your clit and you whimper, head dropping forward into your hands, embarrassed, but not enough to tell him stop, or enough to make them leave.
"Don't pretend this isn't what she wants," Heeseung says, dragging his lips along your neck. "She's been taking both of us, hasn't she? Plus I donât really care about her, she just lets me do things other girls donât."
Jay doesn't answer, but he does step closer. Close enough to see everything and close enough that your skin burns from the weight of both their attention.
"You gonna join me?" Heeseung asks him, too cocky now. "Or you gonna watch with your dick in your hand like a fucking cuck?"
Jay looks at you and the way his eyes soften is the only warning you get before he grabs your chin and kisses you, rough and unrelenting. Now you know neither of them are leaving at least not until one of them wins or they break you.
Heeseung's grip on your waist tightens, but his gaze is all on Jay now, trying to stand behind you like he's bored, like he's not fully hard from just watching Jay kiss you. He lets out a slow exhale, smirking a little as he confesses something that seems to not matter to him anymore.
"You know," he starts lazily, still watching as your tongue collides with Jayâs, "when I was with her...back then? You used to piss me off. Thought you were some kind of threat."
Jay pulls his mouth from yours. "Shut the fuck up."
"But looking at you now..." Heeseung tilts his head, continuing and dragging his eyes lower in a way that makes the air shift. "I don't think I wanna fight you anymore."
There's a beat of silence, something electric buzzing underneath it. You blink, unsure if you heard him right.
"I kinda wanna fuck you instead," he adds plainly.
Jay's lips part slightly, brows drawn in confusion that's quickly swallowed anger or curiosity, you can't truly tell.
Heeseung laughs at Jayâs reaction and then leans in closer to you, resting his chin lazily on your shoulder, eyes still on Jay. His tone drops. "Bet you taste good too," he says, like it's nothing, like he's not teasing the both of you. "Wouldn't mind finding out."
You tense between them, pulse thudding, because you see how this is power, pride...and a pull between them that neither of them wants to admit but both of them feel.
"Fuck off," Jay mutters, but his voice is hoarse now. "Thatâs not fucking happening."
Heeseung grins, victorious, and kisses your neck again, but slower this time cause he knows Jay is watching.
Heeseung's palm slides possessively over your stomach again while his mouth works a heated trail up your throatânever taking his eyes off Jay. Every flick of Heeseung's tongue feels like a dare thrown directly at the other man, and Jay's control is visibly eroding, his jaw flexed, chest rising faster, fists clenching as though he's deciding whether to shove Heeseung away or drag him closer.
"Getting worked up just watching?" Heeseung murmurs, lips brushing your earlobe, but the words are for Jay. He drags his hand lower across your thigh, slow enough to make you squirm. "Thought you were the one giving orders."
Jay's reply is a dark and unamused laugh. "Keep talking."
Heeseung doesâwhispers something filthy against your skin, hips nudging his hard clothed cock against your ass until you gasp and he continues to goad Jay.
"Tell me," Heeseung says, voice low as he noses along your jaw. "Is he a good kisser?" His question hums with challenge, and his fingers flex on your hip, reminding you how completely you're pinned between them.
Your pulse thunders. Shame and anticipation collide in your chest, and something reckless slips past your lips, something soft and breathy and meant only for him.
"Why don't you...find out?"
For a beat neither man moves. Jay's eyes flash in shock and something close to resentment, a flare of something hungry. Heeseung's grin spreads, slow and wicked. He leans past you, crowding closer until his breath mingles with Jay's.
The charged silence hangs, but then Jay closes the distance, grabbing the back of Heeseung's neck like he didnât tell him a moment ago that it would never happen. Their mouths crash together, raw and forceful. You're caught between them, heat bouncing off their bodies, every muffled groan vibrating through your spine.
It's messy and competitiveâJay bites Heeseung's lip and Heeseung answers with a low growl, hand sliding boldly down Jay's side before circling back to squeeze your thigh. You feel the tremor that rolls through Jay at the touch, and pride twists with awe in your lower belly.
Heeseung's grip on your thigh loosens just long enough for him to shove you forward, away from the collision of their mouths. You stumble onto your knees beside the bed, watching as he turns fully to Jay, eyes blazing with hungry curiosity.
Heeseung presses his palm to Jay's chest, sliding it down over his ribs, fingertips tracing the line of his abs. Jay's breath draws sharp, caught off guard.
"Ever been with a guy before?" Heeseung's voice is soft, teasing, every word loaded.
Jay blinks at him. "No," he manages, tone rough.
Heeseung just laughs, soft and smug, thumb brushing over Jay's exposed skin. "That's alright. I'm honored to be your first..." He glances at you, eyes gleaming. "Just like I was hers."
Jay's jaw tics, but he doesn't move away. Heeseung steps in closer, chests brushing, heat rising in the thin space between them. His hand moves higher, curling around the back of Jay's neck, pulling him in again. And this time the kiss is filthier, open-mouthed with teeth grazing and tongues sliding without hesitation.
You're breathless watching them. Jay's hand grips Heeseung's side, uncertain but firm causing the other to groan into his mouth, hands slipping lower to snake between both their bodies to palm Jayâs hardened cock over his sweats. Jay jerks, gasping into the kiss, hips twitching forward in shock.
"Fuck," Jay hisses, pulling back just enough to suck in air.
"Sensitive already?" Heeseung grins, licking his lips. "That's cute."
You press your thighs together, pulse pounding at the sight of them, Jay's cheeks are flushed, Heeseung's calmness is near predatory, and the sheer tension vibrating between the three of you. Your body still aches from the night before, but all you can think about is them.
Heeseung bites his lip, fingers curling tighter around Jay's waistband, tugging it down enough to expose the hardness beneath.
Jay shudders. Heeseung raises an eyebrow. "You hard for me already?" he murmurs. "Or is it for her?"
Jay doesn't answer and it causes Heeseung to grin wider. "Guess it doesn't matter."
And then he spits into his hand, slow and deliberate, before wrapping it around Jayâs dick without breaking eye contact with him.
You swear you feel your clit forming a heartbeat.
Jay takes a sharp inhale he tries desperately to stifle. This is new to him, but his chest tightens either way and his pulse hammers in his throat when Heeseung wraps his spit covered hand around his dick. Everything in Jay screams that he shouldn't want this, that Heeseung is the enemy, but beneath that war, a dark current of arousal is coiling.
Heeseung's fingers pump him slow and sure, eyes locked on his as if he willing him to break. Jay's lips part, and for a heartbeat, he almost moans but he clamps his jaw shut instead, head tilting back so only the curve of his throat shows, as heat floods his face.
His hands twitch at his sides, yearning to grip something, anything. He lifts one to knot in Heeseung's hair, not in anger, but instinct like a desperate plea for more and it makes Heeseung's grin flicker with victory.
Jay's vision darkens at the edges as the pleasure builds, electric and terrifyingly sweet. He fights for control, but his body betrays him when a low groan slips free, startling even him, one which has you trailing your hand between your legs to find some sort of relief.
Heeseung doesn't even glance your way but his voice slices through the thick air like a whip, "Touch yourself and neither of us lay a hand on you."
Your fingers freeze, inches from your cunt, the sight before you too overwhelming, their bodies are close, with tension humming like live wire, and youâre drowning in it, arousal clouding everything else.
A pit of embarrassment forms in your chest. You slowly lower your hand back to the ground with your heart racing.
Jay looks you too now with a dark gaze, you notice his chest rising and falling hard like he's on the edge of saying somethingâbut doesn't.
Heeseung's pace stroking Jay's cock quickens, it turns somewhat relentless, he has one hand still steady at Jay's hip while the other pumps him with confidence. Jay's eyes flutter shut as the pressure builds, you know that look.
"You like that, don't you?" Heeseung says, voice laced with amusement.
Jay's fingers cling to Heeseung's shoulders, body trembling under the rising tension of his orgasm. You watch, breath caught as Heeseung leans in close, lips brushing Jay's ear.
"Look at youâso proud you could handle her, and yet here you are, helpless for me." His thumb presses in right over the phallic tip of him, dragging a trembling, lewd pulse through Jay's cock. It makes Jay's hand jerk, scrabbling at Heeseung's wrist, helpless.
Heeseung smiles knowingly against Jay's skinâslow, knowing. "No hiding," he teases, brushing fingertips over Jay's lower lip until Jay parts them, letting Heeseung trace the wet line. "You don't sound like the tough guy you pretend to be."
You watch Jay try to swallow, try to form a retort, but his voice is gone, it's replaced by a soft, whimpering moan that vibrates through his whole body.
"Go on," Heeseung says. "Let me see what you look like when you cum.â
Jay's head falls back, neck bare, throat exposed. And then it happens, a trembling exhalation, guttural and urgent, as Jay's body shudders and clenches. You see the flush spread across his cheeks, you hear the wet heat of Jay's cum slicking across Heeseung's palm.
Heeseung strokes him through it with a steady hand, letting Jay's orgasm roll through him until the final shudder. Then he slowly withdraws his hand, setting Jay's spent cock free to twitch in the cool air. He watches Jay's chest heave, eyes still closed, mouth parted.
For a heartbeat, there's only the sound of Jay's ragged breathing, then Heeseung's gaze flicks downward, and a smirk tugs at the corner of his lips when he notices Jay still hard, flushed and ready like he hadn't just come undone seconds ago.
"Well, shit," he drawls, low and smug. "Didn't think you had stamina like that."
Jay doesn't respond at first, he just eyes Heeseung up and down, standing firm, his chest heaving with barely restrained unease. But there's a flicker in his eyes of something darker, especially when Heeseung keeps looking at him like that, like he's impressed and still in control all at once.
Heeseung's grins because he doesn't miss the look Jay gives him. He leans in a little, "I wanna know, Jay. You ever fucked her ass?"
That hits. Jay's head snaps toward you, and there's a twitch in his lip, his whole body tensing like he's about to swing, but it's not from shame or shock but something possessive and territorial, and it makes his tone is clipped and bitter when he replies, "No. I haven't."
Heeseung hums in jest, clearly savoring it, but then Jay steps in, crowding his space more with a tight jaw. "You think that makes you better than me?" he mutters, eyes narrowing. "You think that means you get to take what's mine?"
Heeseung raises a brow, not backing down. "You really think she's yours right now?" he says, voice velvet-smooth. "She let me in first. And look at you..." He chuckles as his gaze drops again. "Still acting like you've got any say."
But instead of escalating, Heeseung steps back a bit. A surprising glint of generosity or maybe twisted mischief shines in his eyes. He turns to you, then grabs your wrist, dragging you of the ground effortlessly toward him.
"Come here, angel face," he says, already sitting back on the sheets.
You shake as he guides you to straddle him, already pushing your panties down your thighs.
Jay's confusion flashes at the sight, followed quickly by understanding. His eyes drag across your body as you're pulled onto his lap. The way you're still pliant, already slick, flushed from everything that just happened. You settle over him like instinct, thighs shaking.
Heeseung lays against the bed with his hands spread on your ass, satisfied. "Go on," he tells Jay, like he's giving him a gift. "Or you don't wanna fuck her ass?"
Jay doesn't speak, he just gets on the bed behind you and grabs your hips roughly, eyes never leaving Heeseung's. The tension between them is tangible now, some primal challenge in the air and you're caught right in the center of itâtorn and dizzy with it, as Jay pushes you down onto him, every inch of him searing and full of purpose. And all the while, Heeseung just watches cause he likes what he sees.
The sheets are cool under your knees as Jay's hands splay around your ass, guiding you to angle back against him. Every breath from you seems too loud in the sudden hush of your room, it's just the faint creak of the mattress and the muted hum of morning outside your window. Jay's hands are warm against your spine, his skin damp where he's still riding the edge of anger and desire.
Heeseung lounges at the head of the bed and under you, propped against the pillows, dark eyes tracking every twitch in your body and every flicker of tension across Jay's jaw. You're hyperaware of his presenceâhow his gaze sears like a brand, claiming you even as Jay'sce fingers spread across your waist in their own possessive pattern.
You're pinned between themâstraddling Heeseung's lap as Jay lines his spit and cum covered dick up with your clenching hole. Heeseung's hands grip your hips too, trying to keep you in play for Jay, his thumbs digging into the flesh of your ass, forcing you back hard on Jay's cock behind you. You moan out something incoherent, "Ohâ! WâWait! Nggh."
Heeseung's voice is a rasp at your ear with something wicked and out of breath, "Look at youâbetween two men like some cheap toy." He adjusts himself under you, pulling out his cock from his boxers and gently lining it up with your pussy. "Oh my god! Heeseung wait!"
You gasp, heat roaring through your core as Jay picks up a steady pace of fucking his cock into you and Heeseung pushes his up into your sopping cunt, each stroke makes you push back Jay, the feeling of both of them in your holes has you digging your nails digging into Heeseung's shoulders.
Heeseung chuckles darkly. "You like that, don't you? Two big dicks fucking you?" His grin is jagged, but you can't even look at it for too long because the fullness is so intense you have to close your eyes. "So good! So good!"
Jay's hand finds yours on Heeseung's shoulder, gripping tight, his is palm hot on yours. He doesn't say anything, but you feel the strain in his muscles as he drives his cock into you harder and faster.
Heeseung leans upward, kissing you quickly before shoving his fingers into your mouth. "Ngh! Oh! Goddamit! I can feel your dick through her." He takes his fingers from your mouth and uses the same ones to rub your clit in harsh circles.
"Too much! Heeseung! Jay!"
"Sloppy little thing," he snarls. "But Jay'll fix that, huh?" He fucks up into you with renewed determination, the pressure of your orgasm building inside you in a jagged, desperate wave.
Tears sting your eyes as Jay's grunts fill the room. "Hole's so tightâMy God."
"She ever squirt for you before?" Heeseung asks Jay, pace never failing, "Yeah," Jay groans, his eyes screwing shut and his head lolling back.
Heeseung laughs. "Yeah? Think you can go faster?"
You hear Jay grumble in agreement as his pace picks up along with Heeseung's and they both brush something delicious inside your two holes. The stretch is impossibly overwhelming, it has you drooling right onto Heeseung's chest.
You're right at the edge of losing control and you know they are too, every nerve ending in your body erupts into a blazing white-hot spark. You can feel the relentless fullness of Heeseung thrusting into your pussy and the deep burn of Jay pushing into your asshole like two currents of pressure that clash inside you, building into one ridiculously impossible wave.
"I'm gonna cum! Hee!âJay! Gonna cum! Gonna cum!"
In that instant, your vision blurs at the edges, your breath catches in jagged gasps, and your holes clench down around them both. Your hands slam into the headboard as a rush of heat floods outward from your cunt, simultaneously constricting and exploding, like every drop of blood in your veins has turned to molten fire. "Yes yes yes! Use me! Use me!"
Your whole body convulses with Jay's name on your lips, need shooting through every nerve until Heeseung's words pull you back from the edge. "Fuck, that's rightâUgh."
A strangled moan tears from your throat, your back arches, and your toes curl as the wave crests. You're suspended between fierce ache and a blissful orgasm, every inch of you humming with overload.
Time fractures and each of your heartbeats thump in your ears as your orgasm rolls through you again and again with thick surges of bliss that crackle with humiliation and joy all at once. Your vision swims with dizziness, you're so fucking elated and completely undone.
Behind you, Jay grunts grow louder, his own ripping orgasm from him in a raw exhale as he cums into your asshole, continuing to pump himself into you. His hips jerk with every pulse, driving you higher even as you cum. "Oh fuck me."
Beneath you, Heeseung's breath snarls in your neck, with a husky voice. "Cumming!"
You feel his cum spill inside your pussy, so warm and grounding, as his hands tighten on your hips and hold you in place.
You're suspended between them with Jay's and Heeseung's pleasure and yours intertwining in a moment of pure, overwhelming abandon. Your body trembles so hard you think you might shatter, tears slipping free as the last tremor fades.
You feel trapped in their storm of shame, lust, and fear. It has you dizzier and you start to drift, so close to passing out. Your limbs feel heavy and detached, as if you're watching someone else slumped between them. Their bodies surround you so steadily while the world outside your bedroom window carries on oblivious.
Heeseung's breath is soft against your neck, his hand still resting on your hip. Jay's steady weight behind you reminds you of every promise made and every threat whispered. But no one speaks and time thins.
All you can feel is the slow pulse of your heart, the faint sting of tears on your cheeks, and the relentless press of desire still humming through your veins.
Then, almost too quietly to hear, Heeseung shifts, voice against your skin but eyes on Jay.
"I wanna fuck you next."

â¨Spicynoodles Bio Parents AU Q&A! 01/07â¨

Welcome to the Q&A! A space where I can answer related or similar question about the Shadowpeach/Spicynoodles Bio Parents AU! If you submitted your ask anonimously, then youâll have to check the whole post if itâs answered here, if itâs not, worry not! Your asks might have been used for a future comic or just in the queue~
@monkeyqueen2012 ha chiesto: So we get to see when Kai's grandparents absolutely kick the s*** out of the Ninja' villains? Or a scenario where Kai's family has to say him and the ninjas from the villains and get to see the villain s*** their pants?
we will get badass MK and RedSon protecting Kai, yes. Not really the rest of the fam for now.
@lulushadowpeach ha chiesto: I have a question so since Kai is Spicynoodles fanchild wouldn't that mean nya is Kai step sister?
in a way? but they are still sibling, full bio or not.
@jumpy-buggy-33 ha chiesto: I am curious who proposed: MK or Red Son?
RedSon, mostly because MK allowed him to cause he knew that would make him happy.
@cjtuy ha chiesto: Has red son and mk been on any cute dates yet like a movie night with their favorite snacks or a cute dinner date
oh yeah plenty. They prefer cozy dates where both are in bed, sorrounded by snaks and tv drama.
@lulushadowpeach ha chiesto: Question what do you think Mk and Red son will react when they see Kai their son again?
similar to HTTYD 2 in a way
@stonefox1130 ha chiesto: Okay, so, in your Bio Parents UA, have shadopeach officially said they love each other? Other than saying they forgive each other.
not on the comic, but off-screen yeah.
@pettrainer ha chiesto: Wu is peach, Mac is plum, and Ju ( donât know how to spell the baby name ) is apricot. Does MK have a cute fruit nickname?
Mango?
@asexual-not-asexual-detective ha chiesto: How did the little monkey buddies on flower fruit mountain react to new baby apricot? Do they call her princess? How did they react to Macaque officially coming back as Wukongs mate? Is he their queen? Other King?
Yes they call her princess. Macaque coming back was like a long-awaited tv-drama character return, they all knew Wukong was still simping hard for him
@wolfsonic ha chiesto: Not me realizing Mk and Red Son are gonna have the same situation with Kai that WuKong and Macaque had with Mk. They don't see their son grow up. Like at least they get to spend however many years, so Red and Mk have his younger years with him, but if they ever see Kai again, he's gonna be a grown adult. Not the baby they remember. I know their situations were different, and Macaque and WuKong were not even equipped to handle a kid, but Mk and Red probably prepared for Kai, and then he's just gone. I'm so scared to learn what Mk and Red's reaction to their son just going missing.
yup, but MK more than anyone else will be understanding of his son situation.
@kingofthe7sins ha chiesto: Hey Kyri, what are your thoughts about Kai (through multiversal shenanigans) meeting over ninja teams, like the Ninja Turtles and their dynamics with each other? since the Four Turtles have similar personalities as Kai and the other ninjas
we aren't really going to that specific universe but i guess they would be bonding pretty quickly
@shortstack-pancakes ha chiesto: Hello!! I saw the ask about Kaiâs demon features, so I have a follow up question if it hasnât been asked before. If Nya is Meiâs daughter, would she have some dragon ish features or qualities/aspects?
yes and she already have experienced them all the times after she became a dragon, they aren't a permanent feature on her but they appear when she uses her power a lot, similar to Mei
@doggodonut12 ha chiesto: Hi! I just want to say I love your art- And ask a small question about future MK- like when Redson and MK have Kai- and even after that. Like what do they wear? Do they wear what they wore for the painting usually? I feel like MK would still wear some casual clothes with some traditional elements? I just want to know if their style would ever change in your au
They wear some hanfu and normal training outfit when at home, and their normal modern clothing when hanging out in Megapolis
@sierracarl ha chiesto: For the spicynoodles bioparents au, Kai would probably have a chinese birth name. So may I suggest... Jinfeng. Jin(é): meaning gold Feng(ĺ¤): meaning phoenix or wind I like the tie-in to Iron Fan with the wind thing. Thank you for your consideration. Also, your comic got me into LMK because it's so good and I wanted to know what was going on.đ
We are sticking to their canon name. Also Kai is a gender-neutral chinese name meaning victory (ĺŻ)
@cheshire61 ha chiesto: Why can my brain just hear Kai going to Redson and MK after a kid like steals a toy or something while at a park "Father, Baba, I crave violence." And MK is just like "No Kai, No Violence" while Red Son just really wants to say go for it?
they would answer at the same time opposite answer and then they would stare at each other like "what?"
@nica0509 ha chiesto: Mei and Lloyd as distant cousins? Perhaps the dragon father/mother of the first spinjitzu master had as a sibling a Mei ascendant dragon.
I mean.... there are tons of dragons, not all of them are related but yeah there can be the possibility
@darkshadow-lightpeach ha chiesto: This has me wondering⌠and I have a feeling that you already have a Mystic monkey design for Kaiđ or maybe a bull design? Like Redson? But itâs probably gonna be a mix of both and I have a feeling that it is a mix of bothđ
yup, slightly more RedSon than MK but still a mix.
@estellardreams ha chiesto: Since your next series is gonna be Ninjago Dragons Rising x LMK I have a question... Are there gonna be ships from Dragon's rising in this or are you gonna keep that under wraps for now?
Not yet. I WILL keep a little bit of canon Jaya since in Dragon Rising is still relevant but other than that nothing too centered.
@shay-bug ha chiesto: How do you feel about the headcannon of kai adopting wyldfyre? Also, do you like wyldfyre? She's my favorite character!
I love wyldfire! even though I'm still in denial over the fact she already has a boyfriend. Like no. She's my baby. she's too young wdym
@amalgamorph ha chiesto: Was Kai's name always Kai or did MK and Red Son call him something different?
other than nicknames, they called him Kai.

â ââââââââââ
You'd lost a stupid bet to Yelena, so stupid you couldn't even remember what it was, but you were currently living the consequences of it.
Which meant being paired on a mission with none other than John Walker.
Yes, the myth, the legend, the annoying, all star american asshole.
You'd managed to avoid being paired with him for a while. After all, the last few missions you were together had ended in setbacks, for the simple reason you two just couldn't get along. We're talking about a history of missed targets, blown covers, a few stray bullets aimed in each other's general direction, and maybe ... one crashed jet.
So Bucky and Yelena avoided it at all costs when planning for missions.
That was until now, all because Yelena had gotten bored. A lost bet landed you back on another jet with him of all people.
Mission site was in the middle of a frozen forest, where sunlight hadn't touched the snowy ground in years. Even inside the jet, you could feel the cold creeping through the metal walls as you got closer to the drop point.
You were sent to retrieve intel from a highly guarded facility that had made enemies with Valentina. Maybe eliminate a few targets if it came to that. Quite standard, even easy if you actually knew how to work together as a team.
The worst part? Their security perimeter stretched for miles. Which meant you had to go through a rough landing between the trees, far away from the base, and then hike through thick snow and unforgiving cold just to get in there.
Any enhanced teammate would've been better than you. Either Bucky or Alexei ... maybe they just didn't want to stroll around for miles with Walker either.
Couldn't blame them.
So Yelena, influenced by Bob surely, thought it would be funny to send you. Now that was the worst part, doing all of it with him.
You didn't even know what it was about Walker that riled you up so badly. Maybe it was his superiority complex. Maybe it was his agressiveness when he didn't like the way you planned things. Or how he never took the blame when things went sideways, even when he'd done something reckless too. Or maybe, just maybe, it was the way he looked a little too good when he was pissed at you, those veins in his neck, chest heaving, strands of sweaty hair sticking to his foreheadâstop.
Let's go back to 'You simply don't get along'.
It was easier to hate him than to name ...whatever the hell this was.
"Can you stop doing that? I'm trying to land this thing, or are you looking to crash another plane?" Walker snapped from the pilot seat, not even turning to look at you.
You stopped for a second, realizing you'd started pacing in the back of the jet. It was the only thing keeping your body warm, and your mouth shut.
Until he had to open his.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Is the super soldier getting distracted?" you said sarcastically. "Maybe if you actually paid attention to the plane this time, you wonât crash another one."
"We crashed because you couldn't sit still for five seconds ⌠like right now."
"Wow, you're right. I brought it down with my bad attitude. My apologies, Cap."
You noticed the way his posture tensed on the seat, knuckles immediately flexing on the controls ... why was he so easy to rile up?
And why the hell was that kinda ... No. Stop it.
John didn't know what it was about you that riled him up so bad either. Maybe it was the constant defiance, that bratty attitude he just couldn't allow. Maybe it was how you never followed his orders, even when he was right. Or maybe, just maybe, it was the way you kept running your mouth and he could only think about his mouth on yours to shut you upâno.
He just hated you, that was it.
"Just sit your ass down and put on your belt. We're about to land," he muttered, trying not to sound like he wanted to throw you out mid flight. "I don't know how bad it's gonna be landing into the woods."
You figured it was better to comply, not for him, but because the mission hadn't even started yet and part of the bet with Yelena was to finish the mission successfully, without killing each other in the process.
A lost bet was a lost bet, after all.
You plopped down into the copilot seat beside him, letting your eyes roll as you buckled in. John just side eyed you.
"Good girl," he muttered under his breath, but loud enough for you to hear.
You went upright in your sit, looking at him with disbelief. "What the hell did you just call me?"
All you saw was a half smirk on his face, but before you could unbuckle and force him to say it again, the jet landed harshly into the snowy woods, trees scraping against the reinforced windshield as the aircraft rolled for some distance until it came to an abrupt halt.
You groaned when your head knocked hard against the leather copilot seat. From the corner of your eye, you saw his head snap toward you.
"You okay?" he asked, already unbuckling his belt.
If you really looked into it, it sounded a bit off from someone who had made very clear how much he didn't care about you. But apparently he seemed to have forgotten that for a moment, as he walked over and knelt in front of your seat, fingers working quickly to unbuckle you as he scanned your face for any signs of a concussion.
And for a moment you believed the hit gave you one, because there was no way in hell this was real.
John Walker...being nice to you? Caring?
You blinked a few times at the sight of him crouched at your feet, heart thumping so loud on your chest you were sure he could hear it. John's eyebrows furrowed to your lack of response.
You considered faking the concussion so you could blame your dazed state to that and not to the fact that his large hands rested on your knees like he wasnât the last person who wanted to touch you.
"I'm good," you finally replied, barely audible, but enough for him to let out a breath he was holding.
Your eyes dropped to your lap, and he was suddenly aware of the placement of his hands. He quickly cleared his throat, standing up to somehow pretend to shrug it off. He grabbed his shield from the floor and tightened it up in his arm, maybe a little too hard so he could control his own heartbeat.
"Okay then ⌠time to go to work."
You cleared your throat too, nodding and trying to ignore the heat that flushed across your cheeks.
Must've been the landing... yeah, just that.
ââ
The rough landing seemed to had messed with the jet's communication system, leaving you unable to notify anyone back at the watchtower that you'd made it safely.
You barely got two steps outside before regretting every decision that led you to this point. The stupid bet with Yelena. Stupid Bob.
Actually, scratch that ... Yelena was taking the yelling for the both of them.
Even layered head to toe with Valentina's high tech tactical suit, the cold crept in through every seam and zipper. The forest around you was quiet, and too white, just frost covered pines and the sound of boots crunching the snow below you.
And... him.
He walked ahead of you, carrying the map completely unfazed by the freezing air, head high and posture perfect, with that ridiculous bent shield attached to his arm.
"Walker, why do you get the map?" you asked, not even trying to hide your irritation.
"Because I actually know how to read it," he replied without looking back.
You rolled your eyes. Honestly, you didn't even want the map, your crossed arms were staying glued to your chest for warmth. Picking a fight with him was just the most entertaining way to stay conscious.
You walked in silence for about fifteen minutes before you started talking again, not because you had anything relevant to say, but because it kept your jaw moving.
"How much longer?" you asked, not intending it to come out as whiny as it did, but the cold sinking in your bones was making your brain foggy.
"Can't keep up, already?" he mocked. "Want me to take out the Sentry I keep in my pocket? Maybe he can fly us there."
You inhaled sharply, resisting the sudden urge to stab him. No one would know ... right? Mission incident. Just an incident.
You shook your head, you still needed him to get out of there. That didn't mean you couldn't mess with him a little longer.
So you sniffled.
"You're so mean, John," you mumbled, voice laced with fake hurt.
He stopped in his tracks, shocked about two things. First, did you just call him John? And second ... were you sobbing?
He immediately spun around to check, and Jesus, not a single tear. Just a goddamn grin spreading across your face.
His was jaw tight as he turned away, clearly realizing he'd been played.
"You're impossible," he muttered, shaking his head as he began walking again. You laughed.
"I'm actually cold ... not that you'd get it Walker, you're biologically incapable of suffering."
"Can you just be quiet for two seconds?" He groaned. "Maybe shutting up will help you preserve some energy."
"Oh, I'm sorry," you huffed, "Are we saving that energy for all the arguing we're gonna do later?" you were panting now, hating the way your breaths came shorter from the lack of oxygen.
He stopped again, turned just enough to glance at you over his shoulder.
"You good back there, or do I need to carry you?"
There was a part of it that sounded like he actually gave a fuck, but most of it was just him being sarcastic. Or at least that's what you told yourself.
"Oh, please," you scoffed, trudging past him in the snow. "I'd rather get naked here in the cold than be carried by you." He let out a short, dry laugh, and continued trailing behind you.
Yes, fighting with you was entertaining to him too.
The two of you went deeper into the snowy woods for a while, until the trail curved into a clearing. There, a wide, frozen lake stretched in front of you, splitting the path you were supposed to get across. It was lightly dusted in snow, surface thin enough to be a problem but not so fragile you couldn't maybe cross it if you were careful.
If you were careful.
Walker stepped in front of you, eyes scanning the amount of space the lake covered. He cursed under his breath, realizing going around was not an option if he wanted to get this mission done before the night fell and you froze to death.
"I don't like the look of this." He muttered, shaking his head.
It didn't take long for him to get into his I-was-a-soldier-once persona, running through scenarios in his head until he chose the one he seemed to be satisfied with.
Surprise, it was always the same one.
"Okay ... you're gonna have to stay right behind me. I'll check the ice as I go, you step where I step, got it?" He turned to you, lifting his eyebrows expecting an answer while you looked at him with an annoyed expression.
Yes, you knew it was the safest way to do it, he just didn't have to sound so condescending about it.
"Yes ... got it Walker, thank you," you rolled your eyes, eager for him to just go so you could get this over with.
He sighed, and turned his back to you. He adjusted his shield on his arm and stretched his neck from side to side. You snorted, why was he so dramatic all the time?
"Let's go," he muttered, before testing the first step by tapping into the ice with his boot.
You made your way like that, he gave cautious long steps, first putting part of his weight to test it, then all of it, before he could step forward with you behind him. You kept yourself close to him, as much as you told yourself you didn't enjoy it, the broadness of his back covered you from the chill air and his body was so warm you could feel it through his suit.
You didn't notice when he came to an abrupt halt, lifting his right arm up as a 'stop sign' a second too late, causing you to collide against his back.
"What theâ ouch!" You cursed when you crashed into him. He didn't even budge from his spot, it was like hitting a wall. A six foot two brick wall. "Do you mind warning me before stopping like that? you are literally made of concrete," you complained, rubbing your forehead.
"I literally signed it when I stopped," he furrowed his brows, pointing the hand he kept in the air.Â
"You are supposed to sign it before you stop, soldier boy. Or how about you just talk like a normal human being?"
"Listen, I think this is a thinner section, so we have to walk through slower, s l o w e r, is it clear enough for you now?" he said, spelling the world 'slower' as he made a walking motion with his fingers on the palm of his hand.
God, stabbing him never sounded like a better idea.
"Jesus Walker, do you even hear yourself when you talk? Just because you're leading doesn't mean you have to be a dick about it." You were almost yelling, completely fuming at this point.
"If you don't like the way I lead," he snapped, gesturing sharply in front of him, "then by all means, go ahead, take the lead. Break the ice if you want. I won't catch you if you drown."
You narrowed your eyes at him.
He didn't expect you to actually move.
But you did. Because you'd rather drown out of spite than let him think he had the final word. So you squared your shoulders and strode right past him without hesitation.
His hand shot out to grab your shoulder. "What the hell are you doing?"
"I'm taking the lead," you shrugged, and he looked at you in disbelief.
"Are you serious right nowâ"
You yanked your shoulder from his grasp before he could finish. "Dead serious."
You kept walking without testing your steps, John's eye twitched at the sound of your boots hitting the ice. At this point you had forgotten how cold you were, just from the anger at him alone.
"Oh great ... yeah, keep stomping like that. You want me to throw the shield too? Maybe help you break it faster?"
"No, Walker, I don't want your stupid taco shield. Besides, I'm lighter than you."
You kept your pace, ice creaking faintly beneath you, but you ignored it. You were almost halfway through. When his firm hand latched onto your forearm, rougher this time, stopping you in your tracks.
"Stop doing that!" he snapped, holding you firmer so you wouldn't let go. "You can't just walk off andâ"
"God, stop stopping me!" you shouted back, twisting violently in his grip. "Let go of me, Walker!"
But this time, he wasn't gonna let you. You exhaled loudly, feeling helpless, so you stomped your foot on the thin ice. Great ⌠you were letting John Walker make you throw a tantrum. He just got angrier at your reckless move.
"I gave you an order!" He finally snapped, making your eyes go wide in surprise to his audacity.
Where the hell does this man get off?
You just stood there in silence for a few seconds that felt like an eternity, his grip still firm on your forearm. Your brows furrowed, chest rising up and down from the confrontation. You swore your head was about to explode.
"You know what, Walker," you muttered, your voice was low because you felt that if you raised it any louder you were about to have a stroke. "Maybe if you used half of the brain inside your big stupid head you would realize you're not the boss of me."
He opened his mouth to talk, but nothing came out. His posture relaxed slightly, letting out a frustrated sigh.
"I'm just trying to keep you alive," he muttered, like he was trying to make you understand something he couldn't quite put into words.
You saw a flicker of something different in his eyes, making you lower your arm to stop resisting against his grip. You wanted to believe him, you really did. Flashes of the way he'd looked concerned about you back in the jet invaded your mind.
But no. You wouldn't give him the pleasure.
"I don't need you to do that," you whispered, and when you noticed a slight falter in his grip, you forcibly pulled yourself back.
The sound of cracking ice didn't even register to him until it was too late. You turned around to continue making your way, planning to ignore him the rest of the mission.
"Wait, stopâ" he blurted out, reaching a hand to stop you, but you had already stepped forward.
The clear layer beneath your boots gave way in an instant.
Freezing water swallowed you whole as you lost sight on John, who stood on what was left of the ice on the surface.
It wasn't just cold, it was paralyzing.
Your breath got caught somewhere in your lungs, never making it out. You tried to swim up but everything was so heavy, your limbs, your thoughts ... the world. You could only watch as you were dragged from the light above.
This was it. Your last dumb mission, stuck with him of all people.
John's knees hit the ground hard, scrambling to the edge of the crack you'd fallen in, peering into the dark, freezing water. But he could see nothing.
"Shitâshit ... where are you?â he looked frantically, but there was no way he could get you out like that, the current had pulled you under.
He inmmediatly dropped the shield attached to his arm, the goddamn map, and didn't even think twice before diving in. The cold punched the air from his lungs, but he didn't care, he could take it. You couldn't.
His eyes went wide in the dark, searching through the blurry water for you. Minutes passed, but he refused to acknowledge how long it was taking him to find you, how his enhanced body was already pleading for oxygen.
But then, in the distance he saw something. A figure ... your body, sinking like it didn't belong to someone fighting for their life.
Maybe you weren't fighting anymore.
No. God pleaseâno.
He got to you in three large strokes, grabbed you with one arm, and pushed up, only to be met with thick, unbroken ice above. He cursed, accidentally swallowing some water. He slammed his fist into it once, twice, he didn't know how many it took until it broke wide open, cracks stained with the blood of his hand.
It didn't matter, he would heal.
John bursted through the surface with you held tight to his chest, coughing, ignoring the cold sinking into his bones as he dragged you into a thicker part of the ice like his life depended on it.
Because it did. Because yours did. But you weren't breathing anymore.
"No no no ... hey, hey, come onâ" he groaned, laying your head on his lap, gently tapping your cheek, but you didnât open your eyes. "Fuck."
He cradled your head to place you flat on the ice, and kneeled beside you. You were still, too still, the image of your limp body broke something inside him he didnât even know was there.
"Don't do this to me," he muttered, as he started CPR with just one blood stained hand so his strength wouldn't crack your ribs on top of everything else. "Come on. Come on, don'tâ not like this ... I didn't mean it dammit!"
He shook his head, wet hair splashing cold water everywhere, aggressively wiping his eyes with his free hand, before going down to blow oxygen into your mouth.
"Breathe .. please breathe. You're notâyou're not allowed to go out like this, you hear me?"
He kept just kept going, didn't plan on giving up, not on you. Compress, oxygen. Compress, oxygen. Over and over.
Until you finally jerked under him.
Water burst from your mouth in a choking cough, body lurching forward, your hands reaching out to cling on something, anything.
John.
He exhaled like he hadn't since he saw you go under the water and immediately scooped you up against his chest, a large hand placed behind your head to steady you. You gasped as you shivered, and he just felt this excruciating pain in his chest.
"Okay ... okay. You're okay," he mumbled, more to himself than you. "You're going to be just fine."
He just stroked your hair, as he kept muttering 'you're okay' 'you're alive'. You coughed a few more times, clinging into the heat of his chest that escaped the wet fabric of his clothes. That's when you realized he was soaking and shaking too, he'd actually pulled you out.
"You ... you went after me," you blurted out.
John wanted to punch himself in that moment. Repeatedly. Why did he have to say all those things to you? He knew damn well he would go after you every time.
He held you tighter, and placed a kiss on your forehead.
âIâm sorry,â he apologized, voice cracking, something you never thought would hear from him, but man was he holding you like his life depended on it.
You wanted to say something else, but your teeth began chattering uncontrollably. You weakly pulled apart to look at him, maybe to let him know you felt your body giving out, maybe to look at him clearly one last time before your eyes began blurring more. And he saw it, he knew.
"Noâno don't do that. Stay with me, alright? Listen to me! Just this once."
You're not the boss of me, Walker, you thought.
He finally stood up, pulling you up into his arms, one hand braced under your knees, the other across your back. "We're heading back to the jet. I need you to stay awake for me."
You just managed to nod, curling against his chest.
He left his shield behind, Val would get it back and if she didn't who cares. That wasn't important to him now, you were.
He miraculously managed to make it out the frozen lake without it breaking again, running right back into the forest path you'd already hiked through.
At this point, he didn't feel the cold anymore.
Didn't feel the bite of ice in his clothes, or the burning ache in his chest as he launched himself through the trees. You were trembling in his arms, he knew you were getting worse the longer he took to get you to shelter.
"Hey," John barked, louder than he meant to, like volume would anchor you to him. "C'mon. Say something, just keep talking."
You wanted to roll your eyes and laugh at him. He sounded way too desperate, for someone who couldnt stand you this morning. "You suck," you managed to blurt out, and you felt his laugh vibrate in his chest.
"Good girl," he replied, trying to get you mad at him like he'd done earlier in the jet, just so you talked to him.
Just so you stayed alive out of pure spite.
But you didn't fight him this time, you didn't want to anymore. He could boss you around all he wanted as long as you could feel the warmth of his body. As long as he kept running through the woods, holding you like you were the only thing that mattered to him.
"Eyes open. Stay with me." He groaned, when he didn't get the reaction he wanted. "Just a little longer, alright? Yell at me, go ahead, just keep saying shit. Insult my haircut. Tell me I ruined your day ... anything."
You made a noise, maybe a word, but it sounded wrong. Your head lolled against his shoulder and your lips were turning blue.
"Fuck," he hissed. "You're not dying on me."
The jet was on sight now, slightly buried in snow between the crashed pines. The second he reached the ramp, he stumbled up with you in his arms, kicking the door open. The inside was less cold than outside, but it was not enough.
He laid you gently on the copilot seat, and turned to the controls, desperately flipping switches to get the jet's heating system going, and fiddling with the comms settings to try to get to the team.
"Bucky? Yelena? Anybody, come inâ" he barked, looking at you over his shoulder. "We need immediate extraction."
Nothing came back, the signal was still down.
"Goddammit." He slammed the control panel, a let out a string of curses under his breath.
He finally turned to your figure on the seat, and felt his whole chest cave in. You weren't moving anymore, just breathing shallow and slow. He could hear your heartbeat slowing down as you stared at him with half lidded eyes.
The jet had barely warmed up. It was like being inside a fucking freezer. There was no time, he knew what he needed to do.
"Fuck it."
He stripped off his gear quickly. The heat of his body had already dried off most of it. Still, he got rid of his tactical suit, gloves, the compression shirt he wore inside, until he was left in his underwear, body steaming against the crisp air.
He knelt by your chair, then hesitantly placed his hands on your soaked layers.
"Sorry ... I have to do this," he muttered, as his fingers found your suit's zipper. "I know you hate me. I know this is the last thing you want ... but I need you to live more than I need your permission right now."
His hands were careful. Gentle, even as they worked fast. He took off all layers, except for your underwear. His jaw clenched the whole time as he tried to keep his eyes from looking more than necessary.
He then lifted you off the seat so he could sit instead, placing you on his lap. He pulled you as close as he could, chest to chest, arms wrapped around your freezing body trying to trap as much heat as he could between you. He tilted your face gently, tucking it under his chin.
And God, he was warm.
By this point you had stopped shivering, but he knew it meant you were just at the worst stage of it. Your lips were blue, skin worryingly lifeless, and you couldn't quite figure out what was going on anymore.
"I got you," he whispered, kissing your head like he did when he got you out of the water. But that time you'd gotten back to him. Right now you were drifting away. "I've got you. You're gonna be okay."
"John?" His name came out unsure. Like you didn't remember he was even with you. Like you didn't remember you never called him John.
"Yeah it's me ... it's Walker. You hate my guts, remember? ... come on, stay with me," he held you tighter, wishing there was a way to give you all the serum going through his veins, even if it was him dying instead of you. "I didn't mean it. Any of it. You can punch me when you get better. I'll let you."
His hands tan through your back, your arms, rubbing warmth into your skin, trying to coax you back.
"I'll carry you through another mile of snow. I'll lose all the bets to Yelena if it means you get to yell at me one more time."
He didn't know what he was saying anymore. And it's not like you were hearing him anyways, time got strange after that.
You drifted in and out, sometimes aware of his arms around you, sometimes lost in the static of your own head. But slowly, like fog clearing, your mind began to catch up with your body. You felt heat all around you, like you were wrapped in something solid and safe.
And... bare.
Your cheek was pressed to bare skin.
John Walker's skin.
You blinked against the soft rise and fall of his chest, his heart thumping under your ear.
"...you're warm," you whispered, barely audible.
For a moment, he thought heâd imagined it. But you shifted in his grip enough to let him know that you were there, that you were real again.
Thanks to him.
"You're alive," he exhaled. His hand instinctively cupped the back of your head, fingers threading carefully through damp strands. "Jesus ... you're alive."
"You sound surprised," you rasped, lips ghosting a smirk.
"I watched you fall through the ice." His voice cracked on the word fall. "Yeah ... I'm fucking surprised."
"I can tell ... your heart is racing," you mumbled, voice coming out hoarse from your dry throat.
The adrenaline was still screaming through his bloodstream. He wanted to play it off, crack a joke, maybe roll his eyes and say yeah, thanks for ruining the mission, but none of that came out.
"Yeah ... well," he breathed out. "You scared the hell out of me."
There. He said it. Fuck it.
"I thought you hated me,"
"I tried to.. . God knows, you make it easy."
That made you huff a shaky laugh. He ignored the way his heart skipped to that. You were laughing again. Alive. In his arms.
"You're not exactly sunshine yourself, John."
John. His name sounded so pretty coming out your lips when you were not dying.
"I know."
That was probably the first conversation that didn't end with you wanting to punch him in the face. Something had shifted.
Maybe almost dying was all it took.
It was like the cold had finally frozen the part of your brain that hated John Walker. Or the heat of his body had melted the part of you that still tried to pretend you did.
You nestled your face closer to his neck, trying to soak in the impossible warmth of his skin. "I didn't mean it either ... you know. All the times I said you were insufferable."
He didn't say anything.
"I mean, you are ... butâ" You exhaled. "I think I just didn't want to deal with whatever this was."
You felt his fingers twitch against your back, still careful, like you weren't almost naked in his arms.
"Yeah," he said. "Same."
John looked down at you, still cradled to him like glass. You were watching him now, really watching him, and not with the usual disgust behind your eyes. This time it was something... gentler.
And he was close. Too close. You could feel the heat of him everywhere, arms still locked around you like you belonged there. And his gaze had stopped hiding whatever had been buried under all those arguments and insults.
He tilted his head, eyes flickering down to your lips for a second too long. That's when something snapped inside you. You surged forward before your brain could catch up.
It wasn't cute, not at first. It was cold dry lips, desperate touches, and months of pent up tension crashing together. But then he softened, his hand cradled your face like you were something fragile, and yours clung to his neck like maybe if you held tighter, this wouldn't end.
But it did, because he pulled apart, like he was still holding himself back. He shook his head.
"I want you alive first ... fully conscious," he whispered against your lips. "Not ... not like this."
Of course he wasn't sure if this was real. If this was just some kind of 'thanks for saving me' type kiss. Like tomorrow you would wake up and remember you hated him, and he wasn't sure if he could take that.
You shook your head, you have never known what you wanted more than in this moment. Maybe it was the adrenaline wearing off. Maybe it was the brush with death.
"No," you shook your head. "Ive never felt more alive ... and I'm not wasting another second."
John opened his mouth to argue, but you kissed him before he could. You took all the strenght left in your body to kiss him deeper, until it was less about the anger, the insecurities, and more about everything else you hadn't said yet.
And you showed him, with your hands running through his hair, with your tongue playing with his, that this kiss wasn't a just a thank you, it was an apology ... a finally. Because you still didnât know what the hell this was, but neither of you wanted to fight it anymore.
You pulled back breathless, but you were still so close that you could feel his chest rising and falling against yours. And then ... you both laughed.
Awkwardly. Like you didnât know what to do with each other now.
"...What on earth was that?" you whispered, smiling through the adrenaline crash.
"I ...I don't know," he muttered, a little dazed.
You knew you should be panicking, overthinking. You should be denying everything that just happened. Yet still, you're both laughing again, naturally, like you didn't spend the last months wanting to stab each other.
Something loosened inside you, and you closed your eyes. His warmth, John was so damn cozy and soft ... almost unreasonably so.
Until he oppened his mouth again. Because he was still John Walker after all.
"So... what was that about you rather being naked around here than letting me carry you?" He allowed himself to tease you, because he could now.
Because everything you said in your stupid argument came true. You just didn't expect him to rub it in. You opened your mouth in surprise, hitting his chest, but this time it was playful.
"Haha, very funny. What was that about you not going after me if I drowned?" you snarked back.
He chuckled, and god ... it felt so easy now. He didn't have to say something mean back this time, too many months wasted on that.
So he just leaned in and crashed his lips against you.
Because you were cold. Because you were warm. Because your lips were right there and he just saved your life. And he was sick of pretending he hated the sound of your voice.
This time what interrupted your little make out you was the voice of someone else.
"... h-hello? ... guys come in. We got your message, Walker. Already on our way. Are you both okay?"
Yelena's voice coming out the jetâs comms made your tongues freeze mid kiss. You split apart like teenagers caught making out in a janitors closet.
You were suddenly aware of your very compromising position ... almost naked.
"Oh my god ... oh my god, John," you panicked, looking at the pile of wet clothes on the floor. "She's not even gonna let us explain it to her."
"Just ... don't answer yet," he hissed. "Give me a second to ... it's just my face, I can'tâ" He turned away from you.
"Are you blushing?" You chuckled through your panic.
"No ... It's the cold, shut up."
"Guys, do you copy? Hellooo ... this is Yelena ⌠I swear to God if you two are dead, I'm going to be very upset."
You scrambled upright, before she thought about accessing the jets cameras or video calling, and tapped the console to talk to her.
"This is Walker and uh ... me," you said, voice slightly breathless. "We're alive, mission compromised. But we're... okay."
There was a pause, and you thought maybe you saved your asses.
"Why do you sound like you've been making out?"
You didn't answer inmediatly.
"Hold on ..." she hurried, and you panicked.
A white light flickered, signaling image was coming through. A fucking video call.
Before you could launch towards the control deck to cut the communication, a hollogram showed the inside of another jet, and Yelena's face. Or more accurately, Yelena's extremely judgmental face. Her eyes went wide, jaw almost falling to the floor.
"What the fuck are you guys doing?"
John cursed under his breath and reached blindly to get his tactical shirt, laying it over your shoulders to cover what was left of your dignity. Bob's voice came in behind her.
"Wait, wait ... move, lemme seeâholy shit,â he covered his mouth with both hands, in half amusement, half disbelief.
Ava shoved herself into frame next, squinting. "Are you guys... naked?"
Bucky just peeked his head in, horrified. "They are."
You covered your face with both hands, muffling a mortified groan. John just tipped his head back and let out the most dramatic sigh of his life.
"I swear to god," he muttered. "We weren't ... we're notâit was hypothermia!"
"And your solution was...?" Yelena teased.
"Body heat, Belova," he snapped, rolling his eyes. "It's called first aid, look it up."
"Well ... clearly you got aided." Ava smirked at you.
Bob's voice chimed in again. "I bet that's not the only thing heâ"
"BOB."
Yelena mouthed a sorry to the camera after shutting him up, and gently pushed him to the side. Ava disappeared next to them. Even off frame you could still hear their muffled laughs.
Bucky just scanned your face through the screen. "You okay?"
You nodded, because you were. You finally were. "He's really warm."
John cleared his throat.
"We need evac. She's stable now but still cold. Jet heating wasn't enough, I did the only thing I could."
"Copy that," Bucky nodded, biting his cheek to not say anything. "Reaching your coordinates, just please... put your shirts back on before we get there."

do you have tips for working on a car when you have adhd?
YES. YES VERY VERY MUCH.
Part One: Prep
Purchase a tear-down manual for your car. For older cars these are books you can buy at auto parts stores. For newer cars these are subscriptions that you have to get and the primary producers are Chilton's and Haynes. If you end up getting a subscription, you are going to download and print out the manual. The entire manual. And you are going to put it in a three ring binder and then put that binder in a waterproof bag. And then you are going to cancel your subscription. Digital access to your car manual is not enough; someday you will be away from cell signal or with a dead phone battery and will need to fix your car. Someday you will need to fix your car and your hands will be either greasy or in gloves and you won't be able to scroll on a screen. You need a physical manual for your car. No matter where you keep your tools, the tear-down manual lives in the car.
Have an organization system for your tools. It needs to be a system that works for you. My system is a very organized toolbox where I put everything back as soon as the project is done. Wrenches are kept on carabiners, sockets are kept in dedicated boxes, the car tools stay in the car or in the car maintenance cupboard. Large Bastard's system is three five-gallon buckets full of wrenches and breaker bars and an ammo can full of sockets. Our systems are mutually exclusive. He is not allowed to use my tools. If he uses my wrenches they end up in the bucket and then the 14mm is missing from my set and the 14mm is the one I need for everything on this car and I have to go buy another fucking wrench no, absolutely not, stop taking my wrenches. So the deal is that you need to know what system works for you and how to navigate it; Large Bastard has many duplicates of things because he uses tools for a ton of things and has a really huge volume of tools. It's more effective for him to have ten places to search for a tool and will be likely to find one, and it's more effective for me to know exactly where the tool lives. Which brings me to my second tip:
Keep an eye out for tools at yard sales and secondhand stores. Tools are expensive. If you are a frequent tool-loser, don't invest in expensive tools. It's okay if Large Bastard steals and loses my SAE wrench set in a bucket because that was seven dollars at Harbor Freight.
No matter what your system is, have a designated general area where "car maintenance stuff" goes. This may be a box in a truck bed or a cabinet in a garage or a bag in your trunk, but you're going to end up buying brake pads that you mean to install but then it's raining for three days so you set them down somewhere and now you can't find the pads. You're not going to use the whole bottle of coolant every time you top off your coolant, so you need a space (that is INACCESSIBLE TO CHILDREN AND PETS) to store the half-bottle of coolant.
Okay. So now you've got your tool system and your car-based junk-drawer. Before you start any car project, make sure you've got all the tools that the project calls for. That means BEFORE you start working on the project, you look through your tear-down manual and watch a youtube video or two and make sure you know what tools are required, because if you get halfway through a repair and realize that you need some vacuum hose you are going to stop doing the repair to go buy hose and it's a total crapshoot whether you're going to get back to the task. I'll repeat again: IF YOU ARE DOING CAR MAINTENANCE WITH ADHD, DO NOT START A PROJECT OR REPAIR UNTIL YOU ARE CERTAIN YOU HAVE ALL THE TOOLS, PARTS, AND CONSUMABLES THAT YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE JOB. You are going to mis-en-place this thing. Get a tool caddy or a plastic bin or something, read or watch the instructions for the repair all the way through and put each required tool or part in the bin. If you need to order parts or if a tool is lost, write that down as you're adding things to the bin. Then set the bin aside and acquire those things before you pop the hood. Once you have acquired those things, put them in the bin too, and then check the instructions again to verify that you have all the necessary equipment to do your repair.
As a corollary, before you make any car maintenance purchase, check and make sure you didn't already buy it and forget. Do you need oil for this oil change? Or did you buy five quarts three months ago when there was a sale and forget it? This is why you have your car-related storage area. Go through the instructions for the repair when you are able to look in the car-stuff-pit and see if you already have the car stuff.
Okay. You have your repair in mind. You have all the tools you need. You have all the parts purchased. You have your tear-down manual. Now you need to: Make sure that you have an open space to work and that you are following good car maintenance safety procedures - Never work on a car that is up on a jack, use jack stands - If you have a wheel off, put the wheel under the frame - Disconnect the battery if necessary (the manual will tell you what repairs to do this for) Check the weather and make sure you will be able to accomplish the repairs safely - If you need to get under a car, don't repair that car in the rain - If it is hot, make sure that you have some shade for your workspace; an easy-up is an oft-neglected car maintenance tool - If it is very, very cold, make sure you are protecting your hands from frostbite (you are going to be getting your hands wet and messy and then touching cold metal; you may not realize it if your fingers turn blue or lose feeling) Make sure that this is the correct time to start a repair project - Will you have enough light to get the project done in the daylight or do you need artificial lighting? - Do you have obligations that will cause problems if this repair runs long? - Are you hungry or exhausted? Wait to start until you have eaten or rested. You don't want to be too tired to think when you're working on a car.
Part two: Project (these are the answers you were probably looking for)
Every repair is going to be different, but all repairs are going to have some things in common. They're going to require some kind of equipment or tools, they're going to take some amount of time, they're going to require some amount of focus. Here are the things you can do to guard against your ADHD sabotaging you in regard to those things.
Equipment:
Use your phone to take a photo of what the repair area looked like before you started - make sure the photo(s) demonstrates where pins, screws, nuts, bolts, hoses and clamps were when you started.
Use a tool caddy or a plastic bin to keep your tools, parts, and consumables together as you are preparing for the repair.
Get a work blanket or a tarp to set your tools on top of as you're working if you're working under the car, or a bin to set tools in if you're working in the engine compartment; this prevents you from having to chase down that wrench that you set on top of the airbox and that promptly became invisible.
Have a container handy for screws, nuts, bolts, etc. Paper bowls are good for this purpose, as are old prescription bottles and peanut butter jars. Don't use a glass jar or a ceramic mug or anything that can shatter. Sometimes something that's relatively flat that you can lay parts out in is best for this purpose (for example a paper plate or a shoebox lid) and sometimes the best thing is something with a lid so you won't lose nuts if you knock it down (plastic jars or pill bottles). When you are finished taking apart whatever it is that you're taking apart, count the number of nuts and screws and pins you've removed and make sure that's how many you put back.
Time
How long a repair will take is difficult to predict; maybe it's super easy to get at a part you thought would be harder, maybe some dipshit decided to JB Weld a nut in place. Have some idea (from your manual or instructional video) of how long the task *should* take and assess whether you have the focus for a task of that length on that day. If you take meds, consider timing them to best facilitate the repair.
You know you better than I do; know if you will need a break. If you know you will need a break, prep your break ahead of time so that you won't have to stop for an hour to make lunch. Have a sandwich ready, have water nearby, have a comfortable place to sit set up close to your workspace so that you don't go inside, wash your hands, and suddenly remember that you needed to clean the grout in the kitchen and get distracted into a different task.
Focus
Obviously the last point is related to focus as well, but minimize potential distractions. Tell people you aren't available, set your phone to do not disturb, don't turn on the game on a TV in the garage. I find that I do well listening to stuff when I'm working on cars, but I don't do well with anything that I could watch or with having people around to talk to. I like music and podcasts when I'm working on cars.
Limit your scope. Maybe you're replacing rotted-out hoses and you remember that you were feeling some squishiness in the brakes. The brakes are a problem for later you. You are not working on the brakes now. You do not have your tools gathered for brake repair. You are working on the hoses now. (Aside from preventing you from losing tools, this is another reason to collect the tools you will need for each project instead of bringing your entire tool set out to work on the job - you can't work on the brakes, you only have the tools out for working on hoses right now)
Limit reasons to walk away from the repair. Go to the bathroom before you start. Have extra sets of gloves and shop towels handy. Climate control the area and yourself as much as possible (do you need a sweater? do you need a hat? do you need sunscreen? get that squared away before you start so you don't have to walk away in the middle and risk getting distracted)
Part 3: Post
When you're getting the thing buttoned up, make sure you use all of the parts that you took out. Compare against the photo you took at the start and count the screws.
Read back through the instructions step by step and make sure you did each step. Do this twice.
Manually check tightness of every part you worked on and visually check fluid levels (shoutout to the sketchy mechanic offering $15 oil changes who was surprised as fuck when I came back ten minutes after my oil change because I'd checked and the oil pan plug was only finger tight; turns out he was running a scam)
Clean up your workspace, both to get things tidy and to make sure you didn't overlook any parts.
Take the vehicle for a test drive. Make sure things are running well. If they are not running well, go back to your workspace and go through the troubleshooting steps in the manual to see if you can identify the problem (shoutout to the saturn dealership for the time they got water in my plug wires on my station wagon, shoutout to me for the time i got the order wrong on my saturn coupe plug wires)
If your car is working fine and you don't find yourself with seven extra hoses and a mystery solenoid, good job, you're done, put your tools away and pat yourself on the back.
TL;DR -
Get a teardown manual for your car
Keep your tools organized in a system that makes sense for you
Don't invest in expensive tools if you lose tools frequently
Before you start a project, make sure you've got all the necessary tools, parts, and fluids; before you buy tools, parts, or fluids check and see if you already have it.
Use a tool caddy or bin to keep the parts, tools, and fluids in one place while you're getting ready to start
Make sure that you have the space, time, and physical safety to start a project
Take a photo of the repair before you start to mark the position of bolts, pins, etc.
Have a designated space like a bin or a tarp to set down tools while you're working so that you don't set them down and lose them
Have a container to old fasteners and small parts so you don't lose them; count the parts you take out and make sure you put that many back in
Figure out how long the repair might take and realistically assess whether or not you have time to start
Plan breaks that will minimize your need to walk away from the project
Minimize distractions
Work on one thing at a time, making sure each thing is complete and tested before you start another repair.
Limit reasons to walk away (see my write-up of Success Traps for more details)
Make sure you put back all the fasteners you took out
Mentally walk through the instructions at the end of the project to make sure you did each step
Verify that everything you worked on is properly tightened and filled
Clean up your workspace and make sure you didn't overlook any parts
Test drive the car to make sure it's working well and troubleshoot any problems that come up
Put your tools away so you can find them next time
Good luck!

the delivery - s.r
⥠summary: spencer anxiously waits on you to decide when to go to the hospital pairing: husband!spencer reid x pregnant!wife!reader warnings: basically just that episode of the office (S6 E17), reader is pregnant, descriptions of pregnancy, contractions wc: 3.3k from the results of this poll
Nine months. Nine months you'd suffered nausea, fatigue, back pain, swollen ankles, swollen breasts, and mood swings. And nine months your husband had tended to you hand and foot, getting you everything you needed, making sure you were as comfortable as possible.
You had continued going to work, staying out of the field but needing the fulfillment of doing something during the day. Spencer had protested but ultimately lost the debate. You just had to promise to be careful, stay off your feet as much as you could, and let him know immediately if something went wrong. He didn't care if he was halfway across the country, he'd hitchhike his way back if you had so much as a foot cramp.
Rossi and you had gotten closer during your pregnancy, him bringing in home cooked meals, whatever you had been craving lately, and eating it with you at lunch while explaining how he made it and what went into it. He was very precise with how his dishes were made and the fact that you were hungry a lot more often meant he could try out some of his new recipes on you.
You were sitting in the kitchenette with him now, trying his new spin on pesto pasta.
"I was thinking, maybe we should do something special before you go on maternity leave. One last perfect meal."
"Mmm, that sounds great, what are you thinking?"
"I think it should be a surprise." You suddenly feel a tightening pain in your stomach and your eyes close, lips pressing together as you let out a groan of pain.
"Ooh. Getting close, huh?" Emily asked, shutting the fridge door and leaning against it, looking at you with a grimace.
"No no. I still have time." You waved her off. You planned on waiting until midnight to go to the hospital so you could have a full extra day there, surrounded by doctors. It just pained Spencer to see you having to push through the pain.
You were standing by the copier when you got another contraction. You reminded yourself, they're irregular and far apart, so you'll be fine. You groaned, squeezing your eyes shut as your hand found your back where the pain was the worst.
Spencer's head snapped up watching you carefully as Derek came around the corner, Penelope in tow.
"You're having contractions? That means you're in labor right? You should go to the hospital." Derek suggested, sending you a sympathetic glance.
"We're not going to the hospital yet, we're going to wait until midnight." You said, your voice tight as you shuffled back to your chair, Derek following close behind.
"Oh, why?" He asked, leaning against your desk as Emily and JJ lifted their heads to listen in.
"Because the insurance company only covers two nights." Spencer explained.
"Everything's fine. We have plenty of time." You assured them all.
"Did you know that labor can last weeks? Then they take your insides out, and they just plop them on the table, and sometimes epidurals don't work, and-"
"Okay, okay, thanks Pen, that's really good to know. Thank you."
You let out a breath as your contraction ended. Spencer, who'd been watching from the copy machine, rushed over.
"That's seven minutes. Here we go. This is happening."
"Hold on, hold on. You chuckled, cutting him off as he bent down, trying to help you stand from your chair. "It isn't midnight yet." His excited smile dropped.
"Are you serious? Angel..."
"No, the doctor said every five to seven minutes."
"I-"
"I'm gonna be okay, we should really try to make it to midnight."
"Honey, please."
"Yeah, you really should try to make it because if your baby's born tomorrow, he'll have the same birthday as the late great Johnny Hodges. The greatest saxophonist of all time."
"Did you hear that? Johnny Hodges." Spencer scoffs with a smile and stands up.
"Okay, but we are leaving at five minutes apart."
"Five minutes." You nodded as he backed away to his own desk.
You sank into your chair, eyes closed, as the pain slowly subsided.
"Okay, okay, okay, okay..." You whispered breathily. Spencer's eyes were locked on you, worry clear in his face. Your eyes open and you catch his stare. "Okay, stop watching me."
"Okay, crazy. I think I have some better things to do with my day than worry about you, like figuring out dinner." He said sarcastically.
"Mm hmm."
"Steak is 20% off, well now till Friday, that's a big deal, while we're on the subject, why don't I just run you down to the hospital and just do a quick check?" You click your tongue, shoulders still tense.
"Not till midnight." He purses his lips defeatedly.
"So have you guys thought about names yet?" JJ asks, standing beside your desk, a warm mug of coffee in her hand. God, you missed coffee. The sweet dark taste of it, warming your mouth- alright, stop thinking about it.
"We actually have them picked out already." You said, smiling at Spencer.
"Uh, Diana Lily Reid if it's a girl, and Jude Gideon Reid if it's a boy."
"Oh, those are so cute." JJ gushed. You chatted for a couple minutes before your next contraction came on, jolting through you. Your hand found your stomach as your face scrunched in pain. JJ squeezed your shoulder in support as Spencer ran a hand through his hair.
"Angel, we really should-"
"Spencer." Your tone was scolding and he quickly shut his mouth, biting the inside of his cheek. The contraction passed and you took a few deep breaths.
"I think this is a bad idea." Spencer mrumurs.
"I know, honey, why don't you practice diapering again?" You suggested to get his mind off of it.
"I've already done that, I'm down to 21.3 seconds." He mutters, his leg bouncing. He'd been practicing changing diapers on anything he could find, a fake doll he'd brought in, a football from Derek's desk, he'd even practiced on one of Penelope's large cat figurines.
You were on your way back to your desk from the bathroom when you felt another contraction, the worst of them, shooting through your abdomen. You stopped in your tracks, changing course to one of the couches near the door. The cushions provided you with little relief, though, Spencer noticed immediately and rushed over, sitting next to you and taking your hand.
Your eyes shut tight, you squeezed his hand hard with your other hand over your stomach, groaning in pain.
"Oh! Oh, alright." He shifted on the couch, grabbing your clasped hands in his other one as you threatened to break his bones in your fist. "That's a good one." Spencer winced.
"Ow... okay." You breathed out, letting go of Spencer's hand. He bent, his elbows on his thighs as he put his mouth in his hand, deeply considering his life choices.
"Honey, maybe we should-"
"Don't even suggest it Spencer. We're waiting."
"I know." He sighs. He sits with you, rubbing you back soothingly and around six minutes later, another contraction comes on.
"That's every six minutes." Emily chimes in, checking her watch.
"Okay, you know what?" Spencer shifts restlessly in his seat, moving to stand. "I'm gonna go give the doctor a quick call, he'll probably know-"
"Spence, please." He sits back down next to you, glancing at the ceiling for a moment before looking down. "Happy thoughts here? Happy times."
"Why don't you just figure out the ways to induce labor and do the opposite of those?" Morgan suggested.
"You know what? Great idea, Derek, let's do that." You agreed, reaching out to take your husbands hand. Derek turned, looking up a list.
"Alright, number one, stimulate her nipples."
"Easy, no one's doing that, move to the next one." Penelope said and Derek scrolled down. Spencer bent, putting his hand in his hands, elbows on his thighs as he bounced his leg and tugged at his hair.
"Uh, walk around. Great she's already doing the opposite of that."
"Number three. Having sex. Well what's the opposite of having sex?" Penelope said and Spencer shot up from his seat, shaking his head.
"Nope, nope, come on, let's go to the hospital,"
"Spence,"
"Let's go to the hospital now."
"Spencer, honey, I love you,"
"Mhm." He said tensely, putting his hands on his hips.
"But you're really distracting me from my distractions."
"Okay, well, I'm sorry."
"Why don't you go do some work?" You gestured to his desk and he ran a hand through his unruly hair.
"Great. I will do that. Sorry, I just feel a little bit frazzled and you know how very rarely I use that word."
"I know. You don't like to be frazzled."
"No, I don't." He said, sounding a bit like a grumpy child as he walked back to his desk. He stops to grab a stack of books on pregnancy that he's kept close just in case before walking out. Hotch, having come out of his office to watch the amusing spectacle, followed him out, a bit worried about his anxious protegee.
~
"I know her better than anyone in this office, and obviously she's gone crazy but everybody wants to say that I'm crazy. But I'm not crazy, she's crazy. I'm not crazy, she's crazy." Spencer repeated, pacing the hallway, his hair tousled from constantly running his hands through it.
"Reid." Hotch says gently.
"No, no, she's not crazy, I shouldn't say that. She's just pregnant. But she needs to be at the hospital and she's not listening to me."
"Reid." Aaron repeats but Spencer sinks to the floor, grabbing a book as his legs stretch out into the middle of the hallway, his back against the wall as he quickly finds the page he's looking for.
"Five to seven minutes." He points to the line in the page, grabbing another book to find the same information. "Five to seven minutes." It's almost as if he's talking to himself as he grabs a third book, searching for the information again. "Six minutes- different, but not really." He picks up the fourth book as Aaron watches on silently. "Five to seven minutes."
Spencer's head falls back against the wall as he looks at the ceiling. His gaze falls down on Hotch across from him.
"Reid, take a break. You're stressing yourself out here. She knows herself and she knows her body. She'll come to you when she's ready."
"You're right." Spencer mumbles, getting to his feet. "I think I'm gonna go sit in the car for a bit. I need some fresh air." Aaron nods, watching him leave, a hand threading through his hair and tugging slightly.
Spencer is sitting in your car in the parking garage, staring off into space when he hears a gentle knock on the window. He sees you giving him a soft smile and rolls the window down, leaning closer to you.
"Hey."
"Hey." You gave him a small wave. "I'm not gonna get in the car, because I know if I do you'll try to drive me to the hospital."
"You know me too well." He chuckles anxiously, the smile quickly falling, replaced with a tense expression.
"Okay, Spence?"
"Yeah?"
"Everything is fine,"
"Totally." He mumbles.
"You don't have to worry, try not to think about it. She's not coming out for a while, okay?" You chuckled a bit, trying to reassure him. He smiles but it quickly drops when he registers what you said.
"Did you say she?" You smile falls as well.
"I called the doctor, like, a week ago. I couldn't wait." His eyes go hazy as he stares at the spot next to you. You can't gauge how he's feeling and a pit forms in your stomach. "Oh, go, don't be mad." You breathed.
"Mad?" His eyes are teary as he looks up at you. "How could I be mad? We're having a little girl."
"Mhm." You let a small, hesitant smile form, still unsure of what he's feeling.
"We're having a little girl. Oh, wow." He sighs and you giggled a bit in relief.
"I know."
"All right. Well I definitely feel better."
"Good." You grinned, leaning down to kiss him through the window opening. He turns to watch you as you head back inside but he notices something.
"Hey, did you change?" You turn back around.
"Oh, yeah. My water broke." You giggled.
"Oh." He chuckles and you turn, walking away and his smile quickly falls. "Oh."
You walk back inside, shedding your coat but you quickly pause as pain shoots through you.
"Oh! Woah..." You pause to lean against the wall and Derek gets up, rushing to you. Hotch looks up, coming out of his office to survey from the balcony. "Haa!" You breathe out, Derek steadying you.
"Okay, alright, it's time, time to go to the hospital, somebody get Reid."
"No, not yet Derek, it's not midnight yet. And I still need to try Rossi's dish, where is he?" You head to the kitchen as Derek looks on helplessly. He shoots a text to Spencer who comes up quickly, though, he knows he won't be able to convince you to go to the hospital.
You sit down with Rossi in the kitchenette as he prepares the meal. Spencer paces nearby, his thumb and pointer finger working at his temple, his other hand stuffed in his pocket, clenched into a fist.
"Alright it's essentially a three course meal. First, we have Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a steak that was grilled to rare perfection, and then we have-" He cuts himself off when he notices that your face is all scrunched up and your hunching over slightly. "Are you okay?" He asks, reaching out to put a hand on your arm.
"Mhm." Your voice is tight and in a higher pitch from the pain. "Yes, I'm fine. Um..."
"Are you sure?" He asks gently.
"Yeah, the doctor said it's still considered a minor contraction as long as I can talk through it!" Your voice breaks at the end, raising louder as the pain sharpens.
"Okay, Spencer-" Derek, who'd been sitting by, watching with worry, called to his friend who rushed over, immediately looking down at you. "I think it's time to go to the hospital.
"Alright, time to go? Let's do this."
"No, no it's better." Your voice was a wavering whine as you tried to breathe through it. "That wasn't even the worst of 'em- I'm fine." Spencer bends slightly, his hand on your back.
"Hey, come on, let go to the hospital."
"They're not that bad still, Spence." He says your name in a firm voice. "No, it's passing, it's fine."
"Honey, it's time. Let's go to the hospital."
"It's okay." You whined in protest.
"I really think we should go to the hospital."
"No it passed now, it's fine."
"You know what, I'm not asking anymore." He reaches down, one hand at your back, the other grabbing your arm as he tried to pull you to your feet. Rossi's hand was at your other arm, more hesitant in trying to help you up. "We got to go."
"No, I'm not going."
"We need to go." He changed his positioning as you resisted his attempts.
"No, no come on, I'm not going, okay?!" You shouted, making all three men back off in surprise but you were staring directly at Spencer, your eyebrows furrowed. "I'm not going today, because I can't do it, I don't think I can do it." Your voice broke as tears sprung to your eyes and Spencer immediately crouched down in front of you, his hand on your knee as his voice soffented.
"Hey, hey, are you kidding me? If anyone can do this, you can do this. If you can take down two unsubs on your own with no back up, you can do this. Angel, I'm scared. But the best news is, we're having a baby today. So let's have it at the hospital." His gentle voice successfully soothed you and he turned his head slightly to address Derek. "How are we doing on contractions?"
"Two minutes apart."
"Two min-" Spencer froze, tightening his lips.
"Oh god." You said as you realized what that meant. "Oh no." Spencer stood, turning to face Derek.
"Morgan I told you to warn me at five minutes."
"Spence, we waited too long." Your voice was filled with worry.
"We waited too long. Two minutes doesn't do us any good-"
"I know." Derek tried to calm him.
"Well, what happened to four and three?" Your breathing sped up as tears started forming again. He sighed sharply, running a hand through his hair and turning back to you.
"I don't wanna have my baby here." You whimpered.
"You're not going to, you know where we're going?"
"The hospital."
"Yes and we're going to have a baby, okay?" You nodded and Spencer gently helped you out of your seat but, internally, he was freaking out, forcing himself to put a brave face on for you. He ran to get your bags from the desk before rushing back, putting an arm around your back to lead you out of the precinct.
"Oh, good luck, guys!" Penelope called to you, the team gathering in the middle of the bullpen to wish you goodbye.
"Bye, good luck!" JJ smiled brightly, as the two of you hurried out the door.
After nineteen long hard hours of labor, she was out, cleaned up and swaddled, in your arms. Spencer was laying in the bed beside you, his arms gently around you as he stared at your baby in awe. She was beautiful, the perfect mix of both of you. Diana Lily Reid, named after Spencer's mother and your favorite flower, had Spencer's eyes and bone structure, and your nose and lips.
"She's perfect." You whispered, brushing your pinky down her tiny nose, barely grazing her skin, not wanting to wake her.
"I know." Spencer agreed. You turned to look at him. "How are you feeling?" He asked softly.
"Better. Still a little sore." He hums, kissing your temple.
"Good." The door opened slowly and Penelope poked her head in.
"Is this the little baby Reid?" She asked quietly, coming into the room. The rest of the team was behind her with various gifts, Derek carrying balloons, Aaron holding a teddy bear with a bow around its neck. "Oh, she's gorgeous!" Penelope gushed.
"I made you a bunch of easy meals that you can heat up, I dropped them off in your fridge on the way here." JJ told you and you gave her a grateful look, grabbing her arm.
"You're a savior, JJ, thank you." She smiled.
"And we're all offering babysitting and cleaning help whenever you need it." Hotch gave you a smile and you felt tears pricking behind your eyes and the immense display of kindness.
"You guys are so sweet." Your voice wobbled and they all smiled. Spencer reached over, wiping the tears that slipped out and ran down your cheek. Spencer let you hand him your daughter as you composed yourself.
"If you guys want to hold her, there's hand sanitizer on the table over there." Spencer nodded to the nightstand. Emily was first, sanitizing before carefully taking the baby into her arms.
"Hi, baby. Hi." She cooked, smiling down at her. Diana yawned and everyone gushed as her. You knew right away that this baby would be loved by everyone in her life. She'd be close with all her aunts and uncles, closer with her parents. You'd give this baby the best life imaginable, showering her in love and care, knowing she deserved every bit of it.

Not really an ao3 question, more like a fandom one. So I post on my fandom blog pretty regularly, and I notice that some people reblog my posts often but they don't follow me, and (this part is really stupid) I'm a little hurt about that? Following them first seems like attention seeking (and also they might not follow back which already happened a couple of times and it's the most confusing feeling). Am I stupid and paying too much attention to things that don't matter?
*hugs* Anon, you're not stupid. But you are paying too much attention.
It's normal to look for meaning in actions when we don't have a reason why something is or isn't happening. You don't know why people aren't following your blog, so you're currently grasping at straws to figure out why that could possibly be.
If you want a reason why folks reblog you without following you, I'm going to point you to the For You tab. Someone in your fandom can easily see your fandom posts there because the content of your For You tab is floated to you based on your likes and reblogs. If you're using tags or writing about content that they otherwise like, they'll see you there.
Following someone's tumblr account is not a cry for attention. It is normal behaviour on a website where people post and share content. Likewise, not following back is not a rejection of you, the person. Some folks only follow people they know from other places. Some people have notifications filtered or reduced and won't know when someone follows them. Some people just scroll on past the notif and continue on their way.
I don't think your problem is about reblogging and following, though, anon. I think you're lonely and wishing that you had more fandom friends here on tumblr. That's a pretty common feeling, judging by my inbox (and the history of this blog since I started it years ago).
My advice is scary, but keep in mind that your tumblr url is not connected to your offline identity. Even if someone does reject you outright, they only ever know your screenname. They don't know you.
Follow first. Reblog with chatty tags. Send asks. Reblog prompt memes and asks memes. Send prompts and asks when other people post them.
And above all, do not keep track of who is following you and how many followers you have. Numbers and stats will drive you crazy if you pay attention to them. Instead, focus in on making one or two acquaintances that you can grow into friends and expand out from there.
*hugs* I hope you find your people, anon. I really do đ

ă đž ă Heeseung loves that you're inexperienced. In his words, it's so cute he doesn't know what to do with himself sometimes. But when it comes to his own body, he's pretty sure he knows what you will and won't be able to take.

"Don't you think that it looks too big?" you ask, breathless at the girth and size of your boyfriend's cock, the first one you've ever seen. No way can it fit inside of you, can it?
All Heeseung can do is look down at you, naked for him for the first time and legs spread, with a beautiful smirk growing on his lips.
Inexperienced is the simplest word you could use to describe your sex life. Your romantic relationships have all been fulfilling, but there's never been one that truly went the distance that made you feel safe enough to reach that level of intimacy.
Not until Heeseung.
It's that you're not ashamed of the difference that rests between your history and his, but it raises a lot of questions that Heeseung has no issues answering. Do I tell you when I do or don't like something? How far is too far? Am I holding it the right way?
Unbeknownst to you, your questions only fuel Heeseung's love and desire for you, so much so he can't contain the eagerness inside of him to pull you close and wreck you completely.
He runs his hands across your outer thighs and leans down, kissing your naked stomach. "It's going to fit, baby," he whispers, "just need to prep you first before we get to that point."
"Prep? You mean likeâŚoh."
Your eyes venture down to where Heeseung moves his lips. He stops right above your core, his breath mingling with the heat that has gathered there. Suddenly, your need for him outweighs the unanswered questions you still have, as well as the fear that lingers. "I mean, if you think that will help."
Heeseung chuckles and angles his tongue to begin licking. The sensation is foreign, but so sweet. You buck immediately up into his touch, the stripe he makes from your perineum to the hood of your clit gracing his ears with one of the most delicious moans he's ever heard.
"If this is good, sweetheart," he starts, a string of saliva connecting his lips to your clit, "wait until I make my cock fit inside of you."

All Bets Are Off (And So Are the Clothes)
pairing: (Best Friend) Bang Chan x Female Reader
wc: 5.7k
cw: explicit sexual content, unprotected sex (don't do it), teasing
Minors DNI
Summary: At a mutual friendâs party, you and Bang Chan, best friends, make a bet: whoever scores the hottest date wins, and the loser owes the winner anything they want. What starts as playful competition quickly spirals into a night of cocky flirting, failed hook-ups, and an undeniable tension neither of you can ignore. By the end, the bet is forgotten - because some things are worth losing for.
Chan was in your mirror again.
Not his mirror. Yours. In your bathroom. Shirt half-buttoned, sleeves rolled up, head tilted slightly as he examined his reflection like he was prepping for a magazine shoot instead of your friendâs birthday party.
You crossed your arms, leaning on the doorframe. âYouâre not seriously wearing that shirt.â
Chan glanced over his shoulder. âWhy? Jealous?â
You gave him a slow once-over. âI just think itâs funny that youâve worn that exact shirt for, like, three birthdays in a row. Are you okay? Blink twice if you're stuck in a fashion time loop.â
âItâs tradition,â he said, smoothing the fabric over his chest. âAlso, it brings out my arms. And the arms are where the magic happens.â
You snorted. âPlease. The only thing magical about you is your ability to repel women with bad pick-up lines.â
Chan turned toward you with a mock-wounded expression. âExcuse you. Iâll have you know I have incredible success in the field of flirtation.â
âYou flirt like someone who learned how from a TikTok compilation.â
âAnd yet I still pull.â
âDo you?â you asked, brow raised. âBecause last time we went out, you spent half the night trying to talk to that girl in the red dress and the other half getting cockblocked by her friend.â
Chan groaned. âWhy would you bring that up? I thought we agreed never to speak of Cockblock Carla again.â
You smirked. âYou just make it too easy.â
He stepped out of the bathroom, grabbing his rings from the kitchen counter. âIf youâre so confident, why donât you pull someone tonight? Hmm?â
You grabbed your lipstick from the coffee table, applying it slowly in the reflection of the microwave. âMaybe I will.â
âUh huh.â
âI will.â
âSure.â
You turned to face him fully, hands on your hips. âWhat is that supposed to mean?â
âIt means,â he said, walking toward you, âthat for all your talk, you never actually go home with anyone.â
âNeither do you.â
âThatâs because Iâm a gentleman,â he said with a wink.
âThatâs because youâre emotionally unavailable.â
âOh, wow. Weâre going there.â
The front door swung open mid-bicker, and Felix stepped inside holding a four-pack of canned cocktails. He took one look at the two of you- bickering in the middle of your kitchen, faces close, tone flirtier than it had any right to be- and sighed dramatically.
âOh my God,â he said. âDo you two ever stop?â
âHi, Lix,â you called without turning around.
âYou know you could just fuck and get it over with, right?â Felix said, cracking a can open.
You and Chan answered in perfect unison: âWeâre not fucking.â
Felix pointed at you both with the can. âExactly. Youâre not fucking anyone. And donât say itâs because the options are bad. You two never hook up. Itâs like a weird⌠abstinence pact with banter.â
Chan made a face. âI hook up.â
Felix sipped. âNot recently.â
âIâve just been busy,â Chan said, clearly offended.
âDoing what?â you asked. âBeing annoying professionally?â
Chan threw a pillow at you. You caught it one-handed and threw it back.
Felix watched this exchange like he was watching a ping pong match. âOkay, hereâs an idea. Tonight? Both of you pull. For real. Compete.â
You squinted at him. âCompete?â
âWingman each other,â he said, wiggling his eyebrows. âWhoever lands the hotter date wins.â
Chan tilted his head, intrigued. âAnd the loser?â
Felix grinned. âThe loser has to do whatever the winner wants.â
You raised a brow. âThis sounds like a setup.â
âOnly if youâre scared youâll lose,â Chan said smugly, leaning a little closer. âAre you?â
You hated that your first instinct was to rise to the bait. âHardly.â
âSo?â he asked. âWanna make it interesting?â
You hesitated. You and Chan had always been flirty, sure- but this wasnât the usual harmless teasing. This had teeth. And maybe that was why your pulse kicked up a notch when you looked him in the eye.
âFine,â you said finally. âWhoever lands the hottest person tonight wins. The loser owes the winner⌠whatever they want.â
Chanâs smile was slow and lethal. âDangerous offer.â
âIâm feeling confident.â
He held out his hand. âShake on it?â
You took it.
Big mistake.
His grip was firm, his thumb brushing yours like he knew what he was doing. And suddenly, the air felt thicker. Warmer. Like your friendly little game had just turned into something a lot less friendly.
You didnât back down. âHope you like losing.â
He leaned in; voice low. âHope you like begging.â
You blinked.
Felix walked by sipping his drink. âGross.â
You yanked your hand back like youâd been burned. âOkay, let's go before I strangle him with his âmagicâ sleeves.â
Chan followed you to the door, still grinning. âDonât forget to stretch before the L. Donât want you pulling a muscle tonight.â
âOh, Iâll be pulling,â you said sweetly. âJust not what you think.â
Felix groaned. âOkay, okay- no more sex puns until weâre at the bar.â
Chan held the door open for you with an exaggerated bow. âAfter you, my opponent.â
You rolled your eyes but walked past him, catching a faint whiff of his cologne as he followed behind- clean and warm, like cedar and danger. You shouldnât have noticed. You definitely shouldnât have lingered.
The elevator doors were already open when you got to the lobby, but you didnât press the button yet. Chan stepped in beside you, oddly quiet for a beat.
He glanced at you sideways. âSo⌠just to clarify. Hottest overall or hottest in bed?â
You snorted. âYou wonât be taking anyone to bed, so itâs a moot point.â
âI could,â he said with a shrug. âI just value quality over quantity.â
âOh please,â you said, stepping into the elevator. âYou value whatever girl smiles at you for longer than three seconds.â
He grinned. âWell, thatâs how I met you.â
You turned sharply. âI did not smile at you.â
âYou did. That first party at Minhoâs? You laughed at my dumb joke about werewolf astrology and spilled half your drink on my shoes.â
You blinked. âThatâs⌠disturbingly specific.â
Chan shrugged. âI remember the important stuff.â
Your heart kicked once, hard and unexpected.
Just as quickly, he smirked. âAlso, I liked the shirt you were wearing. Red. Tight. Distracting.â
âOkay, I take it back- youâre definitely going home alone tonight.â
He laughed and bumped your shoulder as the elevator dinged.
The doors slid open.
You stepped out first, composing yourself like your pulse hadnât just betrayed you.
It was just a dumb bet. Thatâs all. A stupid little game with your best friend. Nothing dangerous. Nothing new.
Except for the way Chan looked at you when he thought you werenât watching. Like this wasnât just about winning.
Like maybe, just maybe, he was finally ready to lose on purpose.
You and Chan step into the bar like you own the place, the pulsing music wrapping around you like a drug. The air is thick with laughter, clinking glasses, and the heady scent of spiced cocktails mixed with just a hint of sweat and anticipation.
âAlright, missionâs simple,â Chan says, flashing that mischievous grin thatâs simultaneously infuriating and charming. âWe split up, work the room, and whoever lands the hottest date wins. Loser owes the winner... anything. Anything at all.â He winks, and you know heâs already imagining exactly what âanythingâ will mean.
You shake on it, both of you smug and totally not imagining how badly this bet will backfire.
Without a second glance, you both vanish into the crowd, scanning for targets like seasoned hunters.
You catch sight of Chan immediately, leaning casually against the pool table, eyes locked on a tall blonde with a killer smile. His confidence is magnetic as he laughs at something she says, his hand brushing her arm in that casual, intimate way that says Iâm smooth, deal with it. You raise your eyebrows, amused and smug - no way heâs winning tonight.
You turn your attention to the bar, where a dark-haired guy nurses a whiskey, looking dangerously handsome in that effortless way. You sidle up and shoot him a grin.
âMusicâs too loud to have a proper conversation,â you say with a teasing smile. âBut Iâm sure we can manage.â
He laughs, and just like that, youâre flirting, trading quips and stealing glances. Thereâs something about the way he watches you- like youâre the only person in the room that matters.
You steal a quick look back at Chan, whoâs still working his charm on the blonde. But then, out of the corner of your eye, you see her glance past him toward someone else, and suddenly sheâs excusing herself, leaving Chan standing alone, that brief flicker of confusion crossing his face before he smooths it into a grin.
Your lips twitch into a smug smile. Maybe heâs not so smooth after all.
But then, a flicker of something sharp- jealousy?- bubbles up.
No, not you.
You roll your eyes at yourself and focus back on your whiskey guy, whoâs clearly intrigued.
Minutes later, you spot Chan striding over with that cocky grin plastered on his face.
âYouâre taken,â he announces as he slides between you and your guy, as if staking his claim.
You blink. âTaken by whom?â
âBy me,â Chan says, voice dripping with smug certainty.
You laugh, loud and playful. âYou? Please. You wouldnât land a date with a paper bag.â
He leans in, lowering his voice so only you and your guy can hear. âIâm the reason sheâs still single.â
Your guy watches the exchange with amusement, clearly entertained by the show.
You exchange a playful glare with Chan. This is war.
Suddenly, a tall guy with a crooked, devil-may-care smile saunters over, eyes flicking between you and Chan like heâs sizing up a prize.
âNow, this is interesting,â he says, voice smooth as silk. âMind if I join the party?â
You raise an eyebrow.
Chan smirks. âDepends. Whatâs the party about?â
He leans in, lowering his voice to a teasing whisper. âWell, Iâm thinking... why settle for one when you can have both?â He winks suggestively, and you both catch the implication.
You and Chan exchange a look, trying not to laugh at the ridiculousness of the proposal.
âAppreciate the offer,â you say sweetly, âbut tonight weâre on a bet. Twoâs company, threeâs a crowd.â
Chan grins. âYeah, plus Iâm not sharing.â
The guy raises his hands in mock surrender, backing off with a laugh. âFair enough. Canât argue with that.â
You and Chan share a triumphant glance, both secretly relieved.
Then the music shifts to something slow and heavy, bass vibrating through your bones.
Chanâs eyes gleam with challenge.
âDance-off?â he asks, standing up and holding out his hand.
You grin, grabbing it. âYouâre on.â
The dance floor becomes your playground. You move with confidence, hips swaying to the beat, each step a playful dare.
Chan matches you move for move, his body fluid and confident. Then- heâs close. Too close. His chest presses against yours, warm and solid.
His hand slides down your back, fingers tracing light, teasing patterns as he pulls you in tighter.
He grinds slowly, deliberately, every move a silent promise.
The heat between you is thick enough to cut with a knife. Your breath hitches.
Your heart races, cheeks flushing.
You refuse to let him win that easily. With a sly smile, you twist away just enough to catch your breath and flash him a teasing grin.
His lips brush your ear, warm and low. âTold you, Iâm just getting started.â
The crowd blurs around you, but you can still see the smirk playing on his lips and the challenge burning in his eyes.
You laugh breathlessly. âOkay, okay. You win the dance.â
Chanâs eyes sparkle with victory as he pulls you closer, body pressing insistently.
âYou havenât seen anything yet,â he murmurs.
As the night deepens, so does your flirt war. You trade glances, smiles, and touches that linger just a second too long.
Then, a few more mishaps add to the chaos.
Chan tries to flirt with another girl later, but she shoots him down mid-sentence with a polite but firm âNo thanks.â You nearly choke on your drink watching him recover with mock dignity, raising his hands like âI triedâ before sauntering back to you.
That crooked-smiling guy reappears, cheekily flirting with both of you again. He leans in close, grinning like heâs got the secret to the universe. âHow about a threesome?â he jokes, eyes twinkling.
You and Chan exchange a look, then burst out laughing.
âNot tonight, buddy,â you say, raising your glass.
Chan adds, âWeâre in a competition, remember? Canât risk sharing the prize.â
The guy shrugs, grinning, and disappears into the crowd.
The night spins on, charged with delicious tension and playful challenges- your bet turning into a battlefield of charm, wit, and the undeniable pull between you and Chan.
The bass from the bar thumps faintly in the background, but just outside the bathroom door, the noise softens to a dull roar. You lean against the cool, tiled wall, trying to catch your breath. Your cheeks are flushed, warm from the dance floor and a little from the drinks. Strands of hair stick to your forehead, and your lips still tingle from the teasing smiles and whispered conversations you had just moments ago.
You savour the moment of quiet, closing your eyes briefly, when you hear footsteps approaching- slow, confident, familiar.
Chan.
His voice, low and smooth, breaks the silence before he even rounds the corner. âHey.â
You open your eyes and meet his gaze. His dark eyes sparkle, slightly glazed but intense. His shirt clings to his toned frame, sweat making his skin glow in the dim light. His hair is tousled perfectly messy, just like you like it. You try to keep your expression neutral, but your heart betrays you, thudding hard against your ribs.
âHey,â you reply, voice light but with an edge.
You both lean casually against opposite sides of the hallway, pretending the space between you is comfortable when really it feels charged, electric. The kind of silence where the air seems too thick to breathe but neither of you wants to move.
After a long beat, Chan breaks it with a smirk. âSo⌠she was cute, huh?â
Your lips twitch upward. âYeah? He had great arms⌠unlike some people I know.â You toss a quick glance at him, daring him to respond.
Chan raises an eyebrow, smirking wider. âSmooth. Not bad.â
You bite back a grin. âBetter than your usual.â
His smirk twists into a playful challenge, and he steps a little closer, the heat from his body brushing against your arm. The scent of his cologne mixed with sweat makes your stomach flip.
âJealous, maybe?â Chanâs voice drops, low and teasing.
You meet his gaze without flinching, eyes sharp. âYou wish. Besides, Iâm winning this bet.â
A flicker of something unreadable flashes in his eyes - pride? Desire? Both? - and suddenly the playful tone shifts.
âYouâre pretty sure about that?â
âAbsolutely,â you snap back, voice steady but your pulse quickening.
Chan closes the gap between you slowly, deliberately. His breath ghosts over your cheek. âSo sure that you donât want to back it up?â
You swallow hard, heart pounding in your ears. The world narrows until itâs just you two - a private bubble of tension and unspoken promises.
Your eyes drop to his lips, full and slightly parted. His eyes flick back to yours, dark and burning.
You almost lean in, the space between you vanishing.
Just as your lips are about to meet, the bathroom door swings open.
A girl stumbles out, laughing loudly with a friend, oblivious to the charged moment sheâs just shattered.
Chan lets out a short, amused laugh and steps back, regaining his usual cocky grin.
You clear your throat and run a hand through your hair, trying to smooth your flushed face. âDuty calls,â you say, forcing a casual smile.
âYeah,â Chan agrees, voice still thick with unspent tension.
You both turn away abruptly - you to the bathroom door, he back toward the crowd - but as you part ways, your eyes lock for a brief second longer.
Thereâs something unspoken there - the thrill of the almost-kiss, the challenge thatâs only just begun, and the undeniable spark that has set the entire night on fire.
As you step back into the cacophony of the party, you feel Chanâs gaze burning into your back. You bite your lip, both frustrated and exhilarated. The bet isnât just about who gets a date anymore - itâs about everything between you.
The music thumped relentlessly as Chan stood close to the girl heâd been flirting with all night- an effortlessly cool brunette with smouldering eyes and a laugh that lit up the dim bar light. Theyâd been teasing each other for nearly an hour, trading playful touches and sly smiles. He could feel the warmth of her breath as she leaned in, lips inches from his.
Chanâs hand brushed a stray lock of hair from her face. His heart rate spiked- not because of her, but because of you. The memory of your teasing glance, your smirk, the way your eyes locked with his just moments ago. A flash of jealousy, sharp and unexpected, stabbed through him.
He stopped. Mid-kiss. Pulled back slightly, catching the girlâs surprised look.
âEverything okay?â she asked, arching a brow.
Chan gave a half-smile, shaking his head. âYeah, just-â He hesitated. âSorry, I need a moment.â
He turned abruptly and slipped through the crowd, weaving toward the bar.
Meanwhile, across the room, you found yourself in a similar situation. The guy youâd been dancing with- a tall, lean blond with a cocky grin and killer moves- pressed closer. His hand slid down your waist, fingers warm and firm. You could feel the heat rising in your cheeks as the music wrapped around you both.
He leaned in, voice low and breathy. âYouâre amazing.â
Your lips parted, ready to respond, but something inside you stiffened. A sudden annoyance flickered to life. Was this just a game? A distraction? A way to prove a point?
You pulled away abruptly, stepping back with a glare.
âWait- whatâs wrong?â he asked, brow furrowed.
You shook your head, brushing off his hand. âNothing. Just... not feeling it.â
Without waiting for an explanation, you turned on your heel and moved toward the exit, the cool night air calling you away from the noise and the false promises.
Back at the bar, Chan slumped onto a stool, running a hand through his hair. The frustration was thick in his chest. He hadnât expected this bet to mess with him like this.
He glanced toward the entrance- and saw you slipping out.
His jaw tightened.
You found a quiet corner outside, the night breeze brushing cool against your flushed skin. You took deep breaths, trying to shake off the confusing swirl of emotions.
This wasnât just about winning a bet anymore. Something between you and Chan had shifted, cracked open.
You couldnât deny the ache of wanting something more- but what? And with him?
Inside, Chan watched the crowd through the window, his mind racing. The girl heâd been flirting with? She was nice, but not you. His heart thudded painfully at the thought.
He knew you felt it too.
The bet? It was turning into something else entirely.
You stepped back inside briefly, scanning the room until your eyes locked on Chanâs. His expression was unreadable but tinged with something raw, something vulnerable.
Neither of you moved.
No words were exchanged.
The game was far from over, but maybe, just maybe, the rules had changed.
The cool night air hit your face like a welcome splash of reality as you stepped out of the bar, the sounds of the party fading behind you. You werenât really ready to call it a night, but the restless ache in your chest and the weight of the betâs fallout pushed you to leave early.
You glanced around, surprised to find Chan right beside you. Heâd slipped out just before you, and now there you were- walking the quiet streets together, the world shrinking to the two of you.
Neither spoke at first.
Your footsteps echoed softly on the cracked pavement, the only soundtrack to your uneasy silence.
You stole a glance at him- his jaw tight, hands shoved deep into his jacket pockets, eyes fixed ahead but somehow distant.
âWhy do we always do this?â you finally broke the silence, voice low, tinged with frustration and something softer beneath.
Chanâs lips twitched into a half-smile, but there was no humour in his eyes.
âYou meanâŚâ he started, then shrugged. âKeep pretending like weâre just friends?â
You nodded, biting your lip.
âItâs easier,â he said, almost a whisper. âLess messy.â
You scoffed, shaking your head. âMessy? Yeah. But maybe itâs also because neither of us wants to admit whatâs really going on.â
Chan stopped walking, turning to face you under the glow of a streetlamp. His eyes caught yours, serious and searching.
âFine,â he said after a long beat, âletâs make it interesting. A game.â
Your brow lifted, intrigued.
âA confession game,â he explained. âWe take turns telling each other something weâve never said before.â
You crossed your arms, smirking. âGetting deep already, huh?â
He grinned, the spark of that old teasing Chan lighting up his face.
âDonât chicken out.â
You nodded, the challenge accepted.
He went first.
âI hate seeing you flirt with other people,â he admitted, voice low and earnest. âIt drives me crazy more than I want to admit.â
Your heart skipped, and heat crept up your neck.
You looked down, fiddling with your fingers before meeting his gaze again.
âWell,â you said softly, âI always wonder what would happen if we stopped pretending.â
The silence that followed felt heavy, loaded with everything you both knew but never said.
Chan took a slow breath, stepping closer until the space between you was charged and electric.
âLetâs stop pretending,â he said quietly, voice rough with emotion.
You blinked, startled but unafraid.
The tension broke with a nervous laugh escaping your lips.
âAbout time,â you said.
He reached out, his hand brushing yours, fingers lacing together effortlessly like they belonged.
The city around you blurred into a soft haze, and for the first time that night, the bet and the games faded into the background.
The cool night wrapped around you like a quiet blanket as you both stood at your apartment door, the hum of the city fading behind you. The streetlight cast a soft glow, pooling over your feet and Chanâs, illuminating the small space where the world seemed to pause.
Neither of you moved for a moment, just breathing in the silence that felt heavier than it should.
Finally, Chan broke the stillness, his voice low but teasing. âSo⌠who won the bet?â
You lifted an eyebrow, a slow, sly smirk curling your lips. âWe both lost.â
Chan chuckled softly, stepping just a bit closer, the heat of his body brushing against yours. âThen what do I get?â
You let out a breath you didnât realize you were holding, your heart hammering in your chest as the gap between you vanished.
âYou tell me,â you murmured.
Without another word, Chan closed the distance, his hands reaching up to cup your face, thumbs brushing over your cheekbones. His lips found yours with a hunger that made your knees go weak.
The kiss started slow, a gentle exploration - soft, teasing, electric. But the restraint didnât last long.
His mouth opened against yours, tongues swirling together, messy and desperate, as if trying to make up for all the nights youâd spent apart.
Your hands tangled in his hair, pulling him closer, pressing your body flush against his. The cold night air was forgotten as heat pooled between you, urgent and overwhelming.
Chanâs grip tightened on your waist, fingers digging into the fabric of your shirt, and suddenly you were pushed back against the brick wall of the building, the rough surface grounding you as his mouth left yours and trailed down your jaw, nipping and sucking at the sensitive skin there.
A low growl vibrated in his throat, and you shivered, your breath hitching.
Your hands slid under his jacket, tracing the strong muscles beneath, feeling every inch of him- hard, warm, needing.
He pressed his forehead against yours for a breathless moment, voice husky. âBeen waiting for this.â
You laughed softly, breathless, and reached for his belt, fingers fumbling in eager anticipation.
Before you knew it, you were both tugging at each otherâs clothes, stumbling toward your apartment door with shaky hands and wild eyes.
The lock clicked open, and you dragged him inside, shutting the door behind you with a decisive thud.
The room was suddenly smaller, tighter, but somehow freer- a private world where everything youâd been holding back exploded.
Chan kissed you again, deeper and rougher this time, his hands roaming and claiming, marking you like you belonged to him.
The city lights filtered softly through the curtains, casting a warm amber glow over your bedroom. Chanâs eyes glinted with that familiar mischievous spark as his fingers brushed the hem of your shirt, dragging it slowly up your body, teasing. His breath was warm against your skin, voice low and teasing. âStill think youâre winning this bet?â
You arched a brow, smirking confidently. âIâm about to make you lose in every way possible.â
With deliberate slowness, he peeled the shirt off, fingers grazing over your bare skin, sending tiny sparks racing through you. His gaze roamed over you as if memorizing every curve, every inch, making your pulse race harder.
You reached out and shoved him gently onto the bed, straddling his hips with a grin. âShut up and lose properly,â you challenged.
His hands wrapped around your waist, pulling you flush against him. His lips found yours in a hungry kiss- soft and slow at first, then deepening with an urgent hunger that made your knees weak.
He broke the kiss, trailing hot breath down your neck as his mouth landed just above your collarbone. Teeth nipped gently, making you shiver. His hands slid lower, gripping your hips possessively, fingers digging in slightly as he rocked his hips beneath you.
âYou like it needy, admit it,â he murmured with a wicked grin.
You laughed softly, arching into him. âYouâre the desperate one right now.â
His lips pressed along your jawline as his hands explored, slipping beneath your waistband to cup your bare skin, warm and steady. You gasped when he hooked his fingers inside, slow teasing that built tension like electricity.
You ground down on him, feeling the delicious friction through the thin fabric of his pants. Chanâs hands tightened on your hips, matching your pace with a steady thrust from below.
His mouth found the sensitive spot just above your hipbone, sucking gently, and you bit your lip to keep from moaning aloud. The combination of his touch and that teasing kiss was driving you wild.
âPatience isnât your strong suit, huh?â you whispered against his skin.
He growled low, lips brushing your pulse point. âNeither is you.â
With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Chan shifted, lifting you higher so your bare skin met his fully. You felt the hard press of him against you, the heat and weight of his body grounding you both in the moment.
You moved together, slow and deliberate at first- riding him gently, savouring every delicious stretch and friction. His hands slid up your back, fingers tracing the arch of your spine, pulling you closer until there was no space between you.
Your hands tangled in his hair, tugging slightly as you kissed him again- lips soft and urgent, tongues exploring, tasting. The bed creaked under your shifting weight as the tension between you thickened, heat pooling low in your belly.
Then you found a rhythm- steady, pulsing, breathless. You felt every inch of him as he thrust up into you, slow and hard, drawing soft gasps from both of you.
Chanâs lips travelled lower, kissing a trail down your neck, your collarbone, pausing to bite lightly along your ribs, leaving teasing marks that made your skin burn with want.
You laughed breathlessly. âUsing my thigh as a sneak attack? Classy move.â
He smirked against your skin. âYou make me desperate.â
You shifted, sliding off him just enough to change position, kneeling between his legs. His hands gripped your hips, steady and commanding as you lowered yourself down again- slow, savouring the delicious burn of being filled.
His head fell back, eyes closing, lips parted in a silent moan. You leaned down, kissing him fiercely, tongues tangling in a wild dance.
You rolled your hips in slow, tantalizing circles, feeling his muscles tense beneath you, every movement pulling you both closer to the edge.
Then you flipped him onto his back, climbing over him so your bare skin pressed against his. His hands tangled in your hair, tugging you down for a bruising kiss before trailing down your body with heated kisses and gentle bites.
You caught his gaze, panting. âBet you didnât expect this much competition.â
He grinned wickedly, voice rough with need. âIâm just getting started.â
His fingers traced teasing lines along your spine as he pinned your wrists behind your back. âWhoâs winning now, huh?â
You smirked, breathless but defiant. âIâm the one on top.â
His voice dropped low, thick with desire. âWinning or not, youâre mine.â
Your eyes locked, heat and something softer flickering there.
And then, Chanâs breath hitched, eyes dark and serious as he whispered, âIâve wanted you for so long.â
Your heart hammered against your ribs. You looked into his eyes, steady but full of need, and answered, âThen take me like you mean it.â
He groaned, his hands tightening on your hips as he moved harder, faster- every thrust deep and claiming, every motion a confession.
Your bodies moved together, chaotic and electric, perfectly in sync as waves of pleasure rolled through you both. The sounds you made- the gasps, the moans, the whispered names- filled the room, raw and intimate.
The pace between you both quickened, hot and urgent now, a delicious chaos of skin sliding against skin, breath hitching, and whispered names spilling out in ragged bursts. Chanâs hands gripped your hips tighter, guiding every movement with fierce possessiveness as you rode him, hips rolling in perfect sync.
His voice was rough, barely more than a growl, âGod, you feel so good. You have no idea how long Iâve waited for this.â
You pressed your forehead against his, gasping, âThen donât stop now. Show me.â
His lips found your neck, sucking a bruising mark just below your ear as he thrust upward hard, sending sparks of pleasure shooting through your body. The pressure built fast- sharp, deep, overwhelming. You clenched around him, breath stuttering, eyes fluttering closed.
âFuck, youâre mine,â he rasped, voice low and desperate.
You dug your nails into his shoulders, leaning down to kiss him fiercely. âAlways have been.â
The world narrowed to just the two of you- heat, skin, pounding hearts, ragged breaths. The tension wound tighter and tighter until it shattered in a wild, shuddering release that left you trembling and gasping.
Chan followed seconds later, a guttural moan torn from his chest as he held you close, every muscle flexing and relaxing beneath you. You both stayed tangled, the air thick with the scent of sweat and skin, warmth and something tender beneath the heat.
Your breathing slowed, and Chan brushed damp strands of hair from your face, eyes softening as he whispered, âYouâre crazy, you know that?â
You smiled tiredly, tracing his jawline with your fingertips. âCrazy for you.â
He chuckled low, pulling you even closer. âBest bet I ever lost.â
You nuzzled your face into his neck, feeling the steady thump of his heartbeat against your cheek. âDefinitely.â
The first light of morning slipped through the curtains, casting a gentle glow over the tangled sheets where you lay- still warm from the nightâs wild storm of passion. Your muscles ached in the best way, a delicious reminder of every touch, every whispered word, every stolen kiss.
Chanâs arm draped across your waist, holding you close, his breath soft and even against your skin. You stirred, eyes fluttering open to find him watching you, a lazy smile playing on his lips.
His fingers traced lazy circles on your shoulder as he leaned down, pressing a tender kiss there. âSoâŚâ His voice was low, teasing but gentle. âWhat do you want me to do? I lost the bet.â
You turned your head to look at him, the corner of your mouth quirking up in a smile. Your voice was quiet but certain. âBe mine.â
Chanâs grin widened, all that cocky charm melting into something softer, something real. âAlready was,â he said, brushing a stray lock of hair from your face.
The room was quiet except for your breaths mingling, heartbeats syncing in the calm aftermath of the nightâs fire. You snuggled closer, feeling the steady warmth of him beside you.
âYouâre lucky Iâm nice,â you teased lightly, fingers curling around his hand.
He laughed softly, voice husky. âLucky is putting it mildly.â
You both lingered there, wrapped in the quiet promise of something new and thrilling, tangled sheets and whispered words the only witnesses to the start of what felt like forever.
The music thumped through the crowded room, laughter and chatter swirling around you as you leaned against the bar, sipping your drink. Chan slid in beside you, that familiar mischievous grin lighting up his face.
Suddenly, one of your friends- Felix, always the instigator- caught sight of you two leaning in, foreheads almost touching, eyes locked with that unmistakable spark.
âFINALLY!â he shouted, drawing a chorus of cheers and teasing whistles from the group.
You both flushed but didnât pull away. Another friend nudged Chan, grinning. âSo... who won the bet?â
Chanâs grin softened, his voice low and warm as he wrapped an arm around your waist. âWe both did.â
You smiled into his eyes, knowing this was only the beginning.

I want to step away from the art-vs-artist side of the Gaiman issue for a bit, and talk about, well, the rest of it. Because those emotions you're feeling would be the same without the art; the art just adds another layer.
Source: I worked with a guy who turned out to be heavily involved in an international, multi-state sex-slavery/trafficking ring.
He was really nice.
Yeah.
It hits like a dumptruck of shit. You don't feel stable in your world anymore. How could someone you interacted with, liked, also be a truly horrible person? How could your judgement be that bad? How can real people, not stylized cartoon bogeymen, be actually doing this shit?
You have to sit with the fact that you couldn't, or probably couldn't, have known. You should have no guilt as part of this horror â but guilt is almost certainly part of that mess you're feeling, because our brains do this associative thing, and somehow "I liked [the version of] the guy [that I knew]", or his creations, becomes "I made a horrible mistake and should feel guilty."
You didn't, loves, you didn't.
We're human, and we can only go by the information we have. And the information we have is only the smallest glimpse into someone else's life.
I didn't work closely with the guy I knew at work, but we chatted. He wasn't just nice; he was one of the only people outside my tiny department who seemed genuinely nice in a workplace that was rapidly becoming incredibly toxic. He loaned me a bike trainer. Occasionally he'd see me at the bus stop and give me a lift home.
Yup. I was a young woman in my twenties and rode in this guy's car. More than once.
When I tell this story that part usually makes people gasp. "You must feel so scared about what could have happened to you!" "You're so lucky nothing happened!"
No, that's not how it worked. I was never in danger. This guy targeted Korean women with little-to-no English who were coerced and powerless. A white, fluent, US citizen coworker wasn't a potential victim. I got to be a person, not prey.
Y'know that little warning bell that goes off, when you're around someone who might be a danger to you? That animal sense that says "Something is off here, watch out"?
Yeah, that doesn't ping if the preferred prey isn't around.
That's what rattled me the most about this. I liked to think of myself as willing to stand up for people with less power than me. I worked with Japanese exchange students in college and put myself bodily between them and creeps, and I sure as hell got that little alarm when some asian-schoolgirl fetishist schmoozed on them. But we were all there.
I had to learn that the alarm won't go off when the hunter isn't hunting. That it's not the solid indicator I might've thought it was. That sometimes this is what the privilege of not being prey does; it completely masks your ability to detect the horrors that are going on.
A lot of people point out that 'people like that' have amazing charisma and ability to lie and manipulate, and that's true. Anyone who's gotten away with this shit for decades is going to be way smoother than the pathetic little hangers-on I dealt with in university. But it's not just that. I seriously, deeply believe that he saw me as a person, and he did not extend personhood to his victims. We didn't have a fake coworker relationship. We had a real one. And just like I don't know the ins-and-outs of most of my coworkers lives, I had no idea that what he did on his down time was perpetrate horrors.
I know this is getting off the topic, but it's so very important. Especially as a message to cis guys: please understand that you won't recognize a creep the way you might think you will. If you're not the preferred prey, the hind-brain alarm won't go off. You have to listen to victims, not your gut feeling that the person seems perfectly nice and normal. It doesn't mean there's never a false accusation, but face the fact that it's usually real, and you don't have enough information to say otherwise.
So, yeah. It fucking sucks. Writing about this twists my insides into tense knots, and it was almost a decade ago. I was never in danger. No one I knew was hurt!
Just countless, powerless women, horrifically abused by someone who was nice to me.
You don't trust your own judgement quite the same way, after. And as utterly shitty as it is, as twisted up and unstead-in-the-world as I felt the day I found out â I don't actually think that's a bad thing.
I think we all need to question our own judgement. It makes us better people.
I don't see villains around every corner just because I knew one, once. But I do own the fact that I can't know, really know, about anyone except those closest to me. They have their own full lives. They'll go from the pinnacles of kindness to the depths of depravity â and I won't know.
It's not a failing. It's just being human. Something to remember before you slap labels on people, before you condemn them or idolize them. Think about how much you can't know, and how flawed our judgement always is.
Grieve for victims, and the feeling of betrayal. But maybe let yourself off the hook, and be a bit slower to skewer others on it.
#listen to old auntie Shades#serious#fuck I don't know how to tag this#I should probably read-more this but I'm not sure where#and now I need to go take a walk for my stupid mental health#you never stop processing#you do it over and over and over and over#and hope it gets a bit easier each time#Someone might get upset by using prey#but 'preferred prey' is an important concept from the predator's view#it doesn't mean the people are inherently prey#you feel me?#it's the best word I can find for the concept#neil gaiman#adjacent

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.
#warm up#writeblr#actually this is because again i don't go here#i don't read/write fanfic but i have nothing but respect for my troops#but i also have never played minecraft. im sorry. please ask me any question about pokemon tho i love that shit#anyway#out of some banal and thoughtless curiosity i watched the minecraft movie trailer#and again i know nothing about minecraft. i am aware im in an endangered population#but im watching this going: this is so fucking.... BAD#there is NO LOVE in it!#like if someone who has NO history in minecraft watches that and is like - ohhh this is soulless#WHO IS THE AUDIENCE????#ppl who love minecraft are gonna hate it!!!#at some point it's the ''mean girls musical movie'' problem --#some people will always hate the premise of what you're doing and some people will love it#make it for the ppl who love it#and usually that somewhat convinces the haters to like. chill enough to TRY it . bc it IS good#but when you try to make it for the haters..... nobody likes it. it doesn't have passion. energy. footwork#which is a small way of saying a big thing: if you love something. fucking make it and assume someone will love it too.#i love u . be brave . be bold. be in boston and come to my reading#where i wrote a really weird fucked up little book.#love u love u love u etc

From A tehrani resident who barely got out let me inform you of some of the things currently going on here:
Israel bombed two of the highways leading out of tehran, both are blocked now. The remaining highways had heavy traffic until few hours ago. After israel bombed every oil tanks and refineries around tehran, a shortage of petrol happened. Now most petrol stations are out of work and if you're lucky enough to find one that's still operating, you have to stay in hours long lines in hopes of getting max 15 liters of petrol. So even with a car, it's not guaranteed you can get very far from the city.
There's also the matter of where to go and stay. The bank system is half working, no cash available at the time. And you can't exactly sleep in the deserts around the city. Most people still stuck in tehran don't have anywhere to go and they don't have the money to afford relocating themselves (it's always the lower class that gets the worst hits)
All of these are beside the fact that most people can't leave the city under any circumstance. They have chronic illnesses, they have sick family members who needs care, they work as emergency workers and can't leave their lines of duty.
But these mfs don't care about human life getting destroyed. It's just numbers to them, expendables. Our own government has abandoned people to die horrible deaths, they never cared and they don't care now. People of iran are worth nothing to nobody. It's Gaza all over again.
I have family and friends still in tehran who can't leave. I'm bracing myself for the worst case scenario. I hope all those who start war, add fuel to the flames of war, encourage it and cheer for it, burn and rot in hell. I don't really believe in hell and afterlife, but I hope it's all real just to see these people get what they deserve
#they're going to destroy my beautiful home and I can only watch#they're going to kill those who I love and I can only watch#sorry I don't know where else I can vent my fears and frustration out#iran#tehran#iran israel war#middle east#gaza#fuck the islamic republic of iran
