Massive fandom salt under the cut:

You know, if it were any other character besides Tech, if it was any other character in the exact same situation, I don’t think “he’s dead” would be the default conclusion. I really don’t.

And just to be clear, I’m not talking to people who related to or identified strongly with Tech. A lot of us feel like Star Wars kicked us in the face and we’re so used to autistic characters being disposable. I think Tech is alive*, sure, but I’m also sympathetic to the idea that hoping he might come back is just an ask too far—especially after the finale. I get it. We’ve got a reason to land at that conclusion.

The rest of the fandom, though?

I’ve seen people argue that Fives could be alive for years. Fives—a secondary character (yes, he’s a secondary character, I love him and yes he got his own arc in The Clone Wars because that show was an anthology and could take time to do that, but he was a secondary character) who got shot in the chest and breathed out his last on screen in Rex’s arms—is someone who comes up every time we go to a location clones could turn up. I’ve seen arguments that Mayday—who had an agonizing on screen death—could have been alive. People argue that Maul could come back. Ventress had a very unpopular on screen death and burial and DID come back. And I’m okay with that! I’d be cool with any of them coming back. But they all had far more definitive deaths than Tech did (Maul several times over).

In the entire TBB show (in fact the only character in that show besides background stormtroopers) and most of Star Wars as a whole

Who supposedly dies off screen—remove everything else, take out the foreshadowing, take out every suspicious line, take out the total lack of confirmation and the lack of closure, remove ALL of that, we don’t even need to touch it all, let’s just look at the fall itself—in a long fall that we don’t see the end of because the camera cuts away while he’s still alive

Whose body neither we NOR THE PROTAGONISTS ever see

Is totally and irrevocably dead

In Star Wars?

You know, the franchise where Echo and Gregor both got blown up and were fine, and where Fennec got shot in the gut and then laid facedown in the sand and then in a bantha for hours, and was also fine? That Star Wars? The Star Wars franchise where people live just because? Why have we collectively decided that the rules of storytelling, let alone Star Wars, don’t apply to this one guy in particular?

And to be clear, I don’t think the default would be, “Oh he’s just alive and coming back in the next thing,” I think it would be, “He might be alive, he might be dead—we don’t know.”

But just—“he’s dead and always will be,” is such a wild conclusion for the fandom at large to come to about something this ambiguous.

*To be completely clear, when I say Tech is alive, I don’t mean he was supposed to come back and then got cut. I just think he’s alive, is still coming back, and was planned to do so.

I am sure this was brought up before but there is no fucking way Lorelai had ever met guys like Jess before. Not a chance. When would she meet them? And where? She went from living in a privileged WASP-y bubble of one percenters to living in Stars Hollow, which is a very safe town where stealing a garden gnome and drawing a chalk outline on the sidewalk is considered the biggest and most dangerous crime ever. Essentially she went from one safe and cushy place to another and never lived in a dangerous and crime-ridden place like New York, so where would she meet a guy like Jess?

I think she probably misunderstood Jess and how fucked up his life was exactly. Like even in her own privileged bubble she grew up in, she must have met rebellious guys, but that is a Logan type of rebellion. That is: "ugh my parents are making me go to private school and boarding school in Switzerland, and then to an Ivy League so that I can later get a boring job in finance like they did, I hate them" kind of problems, not: "my father abandoned me, my mother is drunk, my stepfather of the day stole all my money and I don't know how we're going to pay the bills this month" kind of problems.

And don't even get me started on "I know what it's like to be misunderstood by your parents" boo hoo Lorelai, your parents were mad because you got pregnant at 15, that's not the same as Jess's parents just abandoning him for no reason other than they just don't feel like being parents.

What does Stealth Elf think of Dark Spyro, Whisper Elf, Jet Vac, Light Spyro (if she's aware of him at all), and normal Spyro post-betrayal and the "oh he's not very stable right now" moment when they see he REALLY needs some therapy after this?

Okay Im gonna go character by character to make this easy !!

Whisper Elf;

I actually only learned of her recently !! And I liked the idea she is Stealth Elfs little sister, so I half borrowed the idea into her being a part of Elfs' long lost family!! When she finally meets Whisper Elf she treats her like protégée and trains her to be a great Skylander much like herself!

She's protective, but unlike Spyro with his family, she trusts Whisper to look after herself!

Jet-Vac;

She sees him as a Father figure!! Having grown up at the Academy, JV was the most understanding of her emotionally as she was growing up, he was always encouraging but strict when needed. She will never admit it, but he knows the Fathers Day gifts left on his desk are from her.

Dark Spyro;

HATES him. He deceived her, tried to kill her, and tried to deceive her again. After his resurrection, even if everyone else believed he changed, she didn't. She would never trust him again and felt even more justified after he mistakenly frees Strykore again.

Light Spyro;

If she were aware? HATE. HATE HATE HATE. He's Spyro, but self absorbed, emotionless, a true husk of himself, nothing but a deity to represent peace amongst the worlds. But Peace doesn't exist, does it? The dragons sacrificial lamb is how she would see it. She either loses her best friend to Evil or to Perfection. She prefers him how he comes.

Spyro (AfterMath);

She misses him, but she's not sure if she can trust him. Is it safe? Will he run again? What if he is still evil? Where the actions of Dark Spyros his own? She doesn't know, and she can't help him till she helps herself.

Listen, listen, listen. If the live action Legend of Zelda movie isn't as breathtaking, detailed, ethereal, and magical as Legend (1985) then I literally am not watching it. If they're not going to be using real sets for the environments, and real special effects for the monsters, and real costume and makeup, then it's not worth it. If they just CGI everything, they're wasting the potential for what could be the best movie ever made

Tell Suvi she’s wrong, as if you are a person in the world. We want to side with the spirit world because magic and metaknowledge about wizard hubris a trope and something Aabria loves and is incredible at.

But from Suvi’s POV, it is possible for any human to learn magic — not every one will be good at it (at least per the Citadel’s understanding of magic). And then there’s these spirits, who you have to worship or at least make a treaty with solely to keep from destroying you. Sure, some are good, but is it moral to let the bad ones live? Why do they have to come to her world? They have a place, they don’t have to interfere with her plane of existence. Just because they are more powerful, they get to interfere? And demand worship? As far we know at the moment, Naram is blessing Port Talon, but we don’t know everything. What if he bringing the fish to their shores and starving another port for not worshipping him?

Of course, you might want to say it’s about respect and not worship, but where do you draw that line with a god/spirit who’s actively involved in your life? If anything, looking at it from in world, witches are diplomats who are learning to beat spirits on their own terms. You could easily think that system isn’t great; the system seems based on favoritism and chosen ones and doesn’t apply equally to all.

In comparison, sure, the Citadel protects its favorites, but everyone still trains and learns together. Even a favorite who can’t learn a cantrip isn’t going to be able to advance too far. It could even feel more like a meritocracy. And you can beat the spirits on human terms, not theirs.

Suvi is breaking but she’s breaking because she’s young and powerful and coming to age and grew up around constant war. Sure, she grew up under what the Citadel teaches, but there’s a strong logic their words. Not to mentions, she’s already enough of a rebel by being okay with a witch and a singular spirit. We’re not gonna see her suddenly go against her and her family’s way of life two days after the scariest thing she’s ever seen.
