behold! by Endurance we sit comfortably, or something
based on That One Photo by Frank Hurley, which I am obsessed with, this has been my main project this year. it's doubleknit, so theoretically reversible, although the seaming means that one side is much neater than the other. it was a stash yarn project, including 100g of sock yarn from a shop in Bergen (the blue) and 100g of handspun sockish yarn from Tormisdale Croft on Islay (the grey), so about as far from Antarctica as it's possible to buy yarn 😅

Stiles stilinski makes goo eyes at and jealously hoards soft derek hale send tweet
Part two of the brainworm @nerdherderette's request gave me (: Derek in stiles' clothing - the pajama bottoms are my own though (10+ years old target purchase, sadly not available anymore or i would've purchased a backup pair)
In my heart of hearts soft derek in comfy clothes makes stiles go HEART EYES MOTHERFUCKER in a markedly different way from nudity (◡‿◡✿)

headcannon that remus knew how to stitch, sew, knit, and crochet, things he learned from hope who taught him as a way to pass time, especially during the long, lonely stretches when he was recovering from his transformations. remus took to it naturally, his slender and nimble fingers deftly threading needles and weaving yarn, finding it extremely therapeutic. when he arrived at hogwarts, it wasn’t long before the marauders discovered just how handy their moony was with a needle and thread. james, peter, and sirius would often come to him with torn robes, frayed hems, or missing buttons, but it was sirius' robes that remus especially paid attention to, sometimes he added subtle, personalized touches, like embroidering tiny stars or paw prints along the edges, just for sirius. sirius, of course, had more than enough gold to buy new robes whenever he wanted, but he loved wearing the ones remus had fixed and personalized. he’d wear them until they were practically falling apart and then when he did get new ones he'd ask remus to personalize them again ♡

Been thinking about how Hua Cheng sacrificed his eye. Been thinking about how fandom generally treats that eye and the related sacrifice as him ripping out something about himself he hated. Been thinking about...
It's canon that Hua Cheng's eye caused him social issues, but I can't really recall that we get much on his own attitude toward said. I've been thinking that however he felt about it as a child, his encounter with Xie Lian changed that. Xie Lian made it clear that Hua Cheng deserved none of what he got, that he was worthy of kindness and safety and protection and and and, and Hua Cheng's life trajectory changed as a result. He is fiercely loyal, determined to improve himself, and stubborn as fuck.
And, well. He doesn't gouge his eye out. He keeps it covered. As a kid he seems to keep it covered so people won't be mean to him, but as he gets stronger, does he really need to do that? Idk, I think he hasn't really thought it through at that point.
But by the time he's a Tong'lu? He's had a lot of time to think it through at various stages of his life. His attitudes have clearly already shifted: he keeps it covered with bandages when he's alive, as if considering it a permanent injury, but as Wu Ming he simply wears a mask that covers his whole face: the eye is an integrated part of him, and ALL of him is to be covered (positing explanations why he made THAT choice is outside the scope of this babbling).
So. He's no longer specifically hiding is eye. It's part of him. And I can't help thinking...it's a part that makes me him powerful. From his earliest memories, it inspired people to be terrified of him. When he was little, their terror was a frightening danger to his well-being. But he's not little anymore at Tong'lu, he's a ghost who died having learned the saber, who took rage and love over and over and used them to empower himself and grow. He's well past needing to fear how people will react to him. If they lash out, he can put them in their place - and if he simply shows them his eye, he can inspire terror in them. How badass is that?
And THAT is what he chooses to sacrifice: knowing he can inspire fear with a look, knowing that his eye is one of his most incredible assets, he then chooses to rip it out and make a weapon.
Ashamed of it? Maybe once upon a time. But at Tong'lu? A calculated sacrifice from a man who knew he'd need to be armed to survive. His eye was fearsome to mortals, but to other ghosts? Inspired fear would only get him so far. So be weaponized that fear: both the lingering fear within himself of how people would treat him if they saw his eye, and the powerful fear he knew his appearance inspired.
He took a powerful part of himself, one he now fully perceived as integrated into his persona (the eye isn't singled out when he's Wu Ming; it's all part of him, all covered by the mask), and tore it out to forge a weapon.
Basically: been thinking about reframing the removal of the eye from him gouging out the part of himself he hated, to instead him purposefully transforming the part of himself he perceived as most powerful. We only know bits and pieces of Hua Cheng's point of view, but the idea that a man like him would choose to make a part of himself he hated into a weapon...that does make sense, but it's never sat right with him. He'd give everything for Xie Lian; offering up the part of himself he perceives as weakness feels like a pretty paltry sacrifice. But what else would make sense? Him taking the part of himself he's come to view as most powerful - one he was once ashamed of, but that has become a source of his uniqueness, his ability to strike fear into others, etc. - if he takes the *strongest* part of himself, and he sacrifices THAT to make a weapon, to gambles to pursue even more power, so that he can once again return to Dianxia's side, maybe finally strong enough to protect him. And if it fails, well. At least he didn't sacrifice some wussy thing, no, he gave it is all. That feels so much more Hua Cheng to me. This is his ace in the hole, the thing he was prepared to sacrifice *last.* only when all other gambits have failed, will he lose this part of himself.
Idk. Yes, there's something compelling in Hua Cheng ripping out a part of him that equals his perceived weakness and turning it into an awe-inspiring, terrifying weapon.
But I've been thinking... there's also something compelling about Hua Cheng ripping out the part of him that represents his strength and uniqueness, that he'd sacrifice *even that*, and in some ways it feels more in character to me, but I've also just never personally seen someone couch it that way when talking about his eye.
So I been thinking about it.
And I really, really like how it fits together. Really, it probably makes most sense if it's both: it's a part of himself he hates but also loves, recognizing it's power while also still traumatized by the harm to caused him. A perfect cocktail to make an ultimate weapon. A last-ditch desperation move to externalize his most powerful element and stake it all on the saber training he's done. If he's strong enough, he'll be able to overcome with this new weapon. If he's not, he'll have nothing left of himself to give. At least he'll know he did everything he possibly could, gave every last bit of himself, in the hopes of fighting at Dianxia's side again.
