AU Lloyd Explained!

1. He was 10 at the start of the series. 16 after his rapid aging (was not caused by a type of tea). 26 by the start of dragons rising.
2. His main weapon is the Staff of Creation ( AU version of the mega weapon) it was found in the temple of light and belonged to the FSM. All of golden weapons channel the user’s existing powers.
3. Has permanent horns and fangs after realizing his true Oni-Dragon form.
4. The mark of the Oni is mark only pure Oni people have. The Omega (shortly before his death) used his power to bestow the mark on Lloyd. He views this as a curse but slowly learns to accept that part of him.
5. He is the elemental master of life (I choose this mainly cuz I like the film’s explanation for what he and his powers represents).
6. The dragon band is bestowed upon ninja who successfully tame and befriend an elemental dragon.
7. He lost his arm to a possessed Garmadon in the AU equivalent of the Oni trilogy. He doesn’t balm his dad, but Garmadon blames himself.
8. Prosthetic was made by Pixel and Cyrus Borg.
9. He chose to also take Montgomery (Misako’s last name) and hyphenate it with Garmadon to honor his mother as well as his father.
10. While no specific ethnicities from our world exist in Ninjago (seeing as it is a completely separate reality), the FSM, Wu, The Oni, and Garmadon are the equivalent to Japanese. Misako is mixed (hence the Japanese first name and French sir name) and takes more after her French side. So long story short, Lloyd is mixed.
11. He is 5’9
12. His dragon, named Juniper, was the guardian of the temple of light.
13. Harumi died in crystalized. She apologized and made right by Lloyd before sacrificing her self. Tho he forgave her, Lloyd would have never gone back to her.
14. He and Akita had found ways to send each other letters before the merge. Now he is looking for her in hopes to reunite.
15. He has a HUGE inferiority complex.
16. Feels like he is solely responsible for protecting Ninjago

Bethany's Bizarre Miraculous Season: Shift
I love it when the animation artstyle and medium shifts so much. It's always a delight to see. So I thought: "Hm, why not combine it with my current hyperfixation? I don't like the animation, after all." and decided to design a whole season of Miraculous based around just that. If you're wondering where in the timeline it is, I made it up and so it's ambiguously after season 5 but some details are off. Either way, the plot is that a new group of villains that want to summon an eldritch god to Miraculous Paris in hopes that said god will create a utopia. They do this by warping reality, thereby causing the art/medium shift (or Shift, as it's just called), in hopes that the god will be able to enter, and if that doesn't work one of the members will just take some of the energy used to distort reality in the first place to become a powerful villain of the week and yoink the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses to make a wish to allow the god in. The two heroes are bound to pop up after the shift happens. Here's the episode list:

A lot of people give indies who try to emulate "8-bit" style crap for using more colors than any "8-bit" system could realistically display and just generally feeling like a poor attempt at mimicking an art form that relies on limitation and restraint. I don't think every game with a pixel art style that gets ridiculed for this deserves it. Shovel Knight for example. They're clearly not going for "NES 8-bit" authenticity, they're doing their own thing. But there are some indie games where the whole marketing is literally... "so retro! nostalgia! throw back! Just like the Nintendos you played as a child!" And it's literally an edited Mega Man sprite with like 12 colors in the sprite and all the colors of the rainbow in the background and the enemies on the screen at the same time in 16:9 and 60fps. Those games are rightfully mocked for not committing to the art form.
What I don't hear enough people calling fowl on is "low poly Playstation/N64" games that have like 60fps. They always fail to sell that illusion and those buttery smooth low poly games just always feel like they're missing something to me. It's like if somebody took a stop motion movie like Nightmare before christmas and used AI to make all the movements smooth and added a bunch of in-betweens in the facial movements, it might as well just be another CGI movie at that point.
Obviously some low poly games actually are that smooth. F-Zero Z, and Sonic Adventure 2 are ridiculously smooth games. But more every generation had it's rules bended. Mega Man and Super Mario Bros 2 both had tricks so that the characters could have whites to their eyes and give the illusion that they exceeded the 4 color limit. But if you're paying homage to a specific era of gaming, I really feel like you should not be mimicking the exceptions to the rules.

Character Creation (graphics)
While MZ gives you some starting actors you'll probably want to make your own. There are a few ways to do that, but the easiest is probably by using the built-in character generator.

The generator that comes with MZ is intuitive enough. I've made a halfling with the child model that you may have seen in some of my screenshots before now. I'm going to make a new character for this example. It's Dracula season again, so let's go with a vampire.

Whether you randomize or carefully craft a character, there are a few things you need to do to get them from being a pretty face in the generator to becoming a member of the team (or an enemy, or a custom NPC).
Save Settings might seem like the intuitive way to go, but that just saves the settings so you can pull the character up again in the generator to make it easier to adjust them in the future. You'll actually need to save the character in separate parts as png images to use them in the game.

Clicking the Face Image button isolates the face I've created and puts it in a set of up to 8 face images. You can then Export the image...

... and the game will prompt you to save it in the faces folder. Convenient!
Now, you can save up to 8 faces this way so you can put together a set of eight characters or...

... you can save the same character with different expressions so you can change their image in text boxes based on how they're reacting to the events around them.
To add another image to an existing sheet, simply Import the image you want and click to move the newest face to the slot where you want it. Then Export it again and repeat the steps until you have a full set of eight faces.
You can also make your own in any art program, of course, rather than using the generator to make faces. Each face is 144x144 pixels and as long as they're placed into two rows of four columns the game will know how to divide up the individual faces.
Next is the Walking Character.

This is the character as they'll appear walking around on the map. The generator automatically puts them together in a way that MZ knows how to animate. Unlike XP, which used 4 poses across and 4 down, MZ animates with three across and four down.
The middle column is the character standing and the right and left columns are the animations of the character stepping. The game will alternate between the middle and side frames to show a walking character. The four rows are divided into the directions the character can face down, left, right, and up in order from top to bottom.
Whether you've got a humanoid character, an animal, a chest that opens, or a puff of smoke all animations pretty much work by "turning" down, left, right, and up and cycling between stepping animations. This is why you'll find stuff like fire animations in the Characters folder. Looking at the example images that come with MZ will give you ideas about how to create the effect you want. Here we're just making a "human" character so we'll just use what the generator gave us as export it to the right folder (img > characters).
You'll also notice that, like the face image, the walking character only takes up a small portion of the whole png that you create. You have room to add other characters (or different outfits for the same character) on a sheet like this. The game will divide the png image into 96 evenly sized sections so it understands that whatever you put in the character folder has eight characters with twelve poses each.
It'll do this with any sized png file you put together as a character, btw. If you're building a character completely from scratch rather than using the generator you can make them way taller/shorter than the generator's standard size. It divides the png into 8 characters with 12 poses unless you specifically tell the game otherwise.

The Big Monsters are examples that come with MZ for how to make a single character on an image instead of eight. Putting a $ in front of the file name tells MZ that this is an image of a single character (easy enough to recall - a dollar sign is an S shape for Single).
(note that for the big monsters that come with MZ, "turning" directions will change the image with one of the other monsters since the samples are made of four forward facing monsters).
Damaged character poses work more or less like the walking character in that they're saved in the character image folder and are read by the program the same way as described above.
The Battler, as saved in img > sv_actors, is a bit more involved.

MZ allows you to have side-view battles with animated battlers, and the character generator is kind enough to make these super easy to just export into the right folder with a click. But if you're making your own images from an art program instead of using the generator you'll want to have a better understanding of how all this is broken down.
As the asset standards page describes, the battler sprites are read as one character with several poses. You can't stack multiple characters together in one image like the faces and walking sprites.
The battler is made of 54 evenly divided images to make the animation frames in 6 rows and 9 columns. These display eighteen different motions that the game will play in battles.
You can probably intuit from the way the poses are laid out that these are also split into main and stepping frames for each pose with the three poses in a row being frames of the same "motion".

That's a lot of art if you're using the side-view battles and want to draw completely original sprites for everyone!
Regardless of whether you're using the generator or making your own sprites, making one of these guys into a character is a relatively simple matter once the files are all saved to the right places.

Open the database and go to Actors to add your custom character to the game. You can replace an existing actor with your own images, of course, but you can also just add a new actor by increasing the maximum number.
(Also the eight characters that come with RMMZ spell out RPG MAKER with the first letters of their names. Cute!)

From there just fill in the blank images with the actor you made. You can also name them and change their class and the like (which will be it's own thing and this post is already quite long).
I think he'd be a good Sorcerer.

Alright first things first here's the font I made, you'll understand why it's here later! PLEASE shoot me a message if the link doesn't work, that last thing I'd want is a dead end for a poor artist.
RIGHT, so I've been working on a Rain world AU where all the RW characters are placed in the Pokémon universe. I've already drawn Rivulet's sprite but I wanted to put them on a game's UI just to make it look realistic. I looked online and Pokémon B&W2 looked the best and I can make animations for the slugcats as well! When I downloaded the UI and got to work replacing all the text, I realized something very unfortunate.
Pixel fonts fucking SUCK.
Every single fuckin one gets labelled as "8-bit" or "meant for pixel art!" BUT THEY'RE ALL LYING TO YOU.
I haven't scoured the internet but the most popular ones look nice, but as soon as you scale them down to anything below 12 pixels they look like absolute dog-shit. This isn't horrible, for most people 12 pixels is enough! but when you're trying to replicate a game's Ui...
I tried adjusting the alphas in Krita, applying the text in Paint, scaling the image and then applying the text. NOTHING worked. The core issue was that Pokemon B&W2 had it's own custom font and nothing I could make would look anywhere close as good.
At this point my autism got activated (if it hadn't been already) and I had the brilliant (downright shit-brained) idea. It would just be easier if I made the font myself.
Good god I wish I had just looks a bit harder. I still have no idea if someone has done what I have, and I'm still too lazy to look!
I made the font. I scoured for tons of screenshots from dozens of websites to replicate every single character down to the pixel. I kept having issues where my font heights where constantly getting bigger and smaller. Spaces that used to be 3x3 were 4x3 when I looked back. I chocked this up to my disabled ass not being able to count 9 pixels. 10 pixels, no- now its fuckin 8.
I need you to know that at this point I had been working on this for 4 hours. 4 hours of squares and numbers. My brain was reduced to fucking mush. And then Gamefreak took the mush, put it in a blender, and fed it TO THE FUCKIN VOID SEA.
Different consoles used separate fonts. You can tell because the UI's are different everywhere the characters are sightly shorter. This makes sense, If you have a smaller screen, reducing the font size by a pixel could save you some valuable space! But at this point it had already done it's damage on me. I'm not proud of it but I cried. I have no idea which characters had been effected because I used so many different references that I just gave up. On top of all this, the games have something weird going on with the shaded parts of the text and the only way I could somewhat replicate it was to use 3 different text layers.
So. To anyone out there who specifically needs the Pokémon B&W2 font, you have it now. It's not perfect, but it'll do.
I hope no one has to go through what I did.

Gonna answer this one for away in the woods! Biggest inspiration is without a doubt the Hermit ending of Aveyond 1. Other inspirations include the poem "If No One Ever Marries Me'", the song "I Stand Alone" from Quest for Camelot, and what I described as "every NPC old lady tucked away in the woods in an RPG", so essentially the old, single woman who may or may not be a witch archetype.
23. How well do you do with project conceptualization?
I am absolutely horrible at coming up with ideas to begin with - it's a good thing that I take as long to make a game as I do, or else I'd be out of ideas - but once I've figured out an idea I like, I think I'm pretty good at nailing it down and conceptualizing it into something I can actually make. I like to think I'm especially good at conceptualizing maps and how the game actually comes together.
24. How well do you do with project implementation?
Er, not good. You know the idea "slow and steady wins the race"? Yeah I'm slow but not steady. I'm really trying to find a workflow where I make more consistent progress.
25. Aside from playing your game, how can other people support you and your project? If I share stuff about it, I love hearing feedback!
26. Why do you want to make a game? Literally just because I like using RPG Maker. It makes my brain go brrrr.

Myself first and foremost, other than that it depends on the game. seaglass was kinda internally dedicated to all my internet friendships; Inn Need was of course for Tei & Ji as collaborators (and the IGMC judges, lol), and away in the woods was conceptualized as for me, Ishti, and Moonie, and... I'm self conscious and embarrassed saying this, but like, aromantic people in general? And of course, all of them are for anyone who would enjoy them <3

Did you know that SCI's sprites (views) and backgrounds (pictures) share a format?

Here's what I mean, right. Here's a simple view as seen in SCI Companion's view editor. It's mostly a red gradient, two pixels per color. And here's the default palette for reference. That means this is the following pixel values, twice each: 0 7 15 14 13 12 11 10 9 8 0

Here's the same gradient slightly extended into a 320 pixel wide 16 pixel high picture, and all the draw commands. That "Image" command is what draws basically the entire visible part of the background. If there were any walk-behind areas or whatever there'd be vector drawing commands after.

Remember the color values I quoted earlier? Here's the entire view file in a hex editor, with the run length encoded pixel data selected. "8X YY" means "repeat YY X times". There's more options, but I picked that gradient specifically to cause simple to understand and recognize yet "bad" RLE.

And here's the same data in the picture file. You'll notice because this version is 320 pixels wide, the final byte is a BF instead of 82, and there's more copies of the whole thing because I repeat this for seven more lines. But it's clearly the same RLE data as a View uses.

My original plan was to wait until saturday to post this, but since the video’s done and the big Thanksgiving gathering I’ll be attending doesn’t start for a couple of hours, I figured “why not?” and decided I’d surprise my followers by publishing my newest Constructing Kingdoms video 2 whole days early.
As you can see from the thumbnail, this month’s video is dedicated to our Mistress of All Evil herself and the role she plays in the context of the series’ overarching narrative.

Wait. What happened with Bob Koplar and Voltron? There were reasons as to why it was so bad?!
There absolutely are. 
And before I go any further, I have no clue if you already know who Bob Koplar is, but if you do, then this little explanation will just be for anyone reading this who doesn’t: Bob Koplar is the current head of WEP (World Events Productions), the company that made the original show in the 80s and owns the Voltron brand. Dreamworks at the time of the Netflix Voltron series’ production only had the rights to adapt the existing Voltron material and did not own the brand outright. All scripts/episodes for VLD had to go through Bob for approval (by his own admission, although the video where he acknowledges this has sadly been deleted from Youtube). 
So with that explanation out of the way, the reason the final season of Voltron is so bad was because the showrunners and writers at Dreamworks had a very specific story they were trying to tell, while based on comments made by cast, crew, and Koplar himself over the years, Bob wanted 1) a glorified toy commercial to sell toys to 6 year old boys, and 2) a successor to the previous Voltron series, Voltron Force. 
Based on all the evidence found in and around Seasons 7 and 8, the crew’s plans for the final seasons would have involved revealing that Lotor was still alive in the Rift, that he was innocent of the crimes he had been condemned for, and that he would reconcile with Allura and Team Voltron before joining them in the final battle against Honerva. 
Bob found out about this while the crew was making Season 7 and ordered them to change it. Based on interview comments and the history of the Voltron brand, the most likely reason was because he wanted Lotor to remain a villain so he could be reused as the antagonist of a sequel series. The crew complied and removed much of the content surrounding this plotline from Season 7, but then reworked it into Season 8 and tried to push for their planned ending anyway, banking on the fact that by the time Bob found out they’d defied him it would be too late for him to do anything. Instead, the showrunners were forced to cut out multiple episodes’ worth of footage and then rearrange what was left in order to have the number of episodes their contract with Netflix obligated them to release. (A summary of the most notable evidence of changes within the season itself, along with a rough outline of what the final season should’ve looked like based on what was removed, can be found here)
And this all happened after production was already completed, as even the animators and most of the voice actors were surprised by the version of the final season we got. 
Bob has also been implicated by multiple interviews with cast and crew as pushing back against the crew’s desire to include queer characters and relationships in the show, and prevented them from including any same-gender romance between the paladins. 
If you’re interested, the group of fans behind much of the research into the Bob-mandated editing of Voltron Season 8 has put together a few reconstruction videos depicting an approximation of what the unedited versions of certain episodes would have looked like.

I’ve made no secret on the channel that I look at the series through a Soriku lens, and this is the month where I finally break down the narrative evidence for Sora and Riku to be the endgame romance of the narrative.
At just over 42 minutes, this is my single longest video to date. It’s been a labor of love for the last 2 months, with many nights spent staying up past midnight when I had to get up early for work the next day. But it was all worth it in the end, and I’m proud of this episode.

In this episode, I’ll be discussing a particular character archetype I’ve noticed pop up in various KH theories several times over the years, the most common interpretation of how the series will implement it, and my own interpretation, incorporating key details that are typically overlooked. 
This will be my last episode for at least the next few months, as I’ll be taking a break once I upload this so that I can recharge and focus on other projects that I let fall by the wayside in the last eight months I’ve spent focused on making these videos.

Timeline of KH Dark Road
So the whole time I was watching the finale of Dark Road, I was keeping track of when all of the “X years later/ago” scenes took place, both in relation to the main story and in relation to the rest of the KH saga. Since Xehanort’s conversation with MoM is specifically identified by Remind as being 75 years before KH3, I decided to use that as the base point.
So without further ado, here’s a timeline of Dark Road’s major scenes:
85 years before KH3: Epilogue scene of baby Xehanort on Destiny Islands with Player
78 years before KH3: Xehanort leaves Destiny Islands
77 years before KH3: KH3 Xehaqus chess scene
76 years before KH3: Main Dark Road story
75 years before KH3: Xehanort goes on his first world tour post-Dark Road and meets the Master of Masters
74 years before KH3: Xehanort returns from his first world tour
72 years before KH3: Xehanort goes on a second world tour to prepare for the Mark of Master exam (the 4 years later scenes)
70 years before KH3: Xehanort and Eraqus become Keyblade Masters. Eraqus is bequeathed Master’s Defender while Xehanort is given No Name.
69 years before KH3: An unknown crisis occurs in Scala that makes Xehanort desperate enough to try and summon Kingdom Hearts (his fight with Eraqus in the trailers)
21 years before KH3: Xehanort and Eraqus argue over Xehanort’s plans to start another Keyblade War, ending when Xehanort scars Eraqus’ face (as seen in BBS flashbacks)
12 years before KH3: Xehanort finds Ventus in the Keyblade Graveyard and takes him as an apprentice
11 years before KH3: Xehanort brings Ventus to the Land of Departure. BBS happens a few months later.
Some quick observations about the timeline of events:
In his conversation with MoM, Xehanort indicates that his training is nearly finished and the Mark of Mastery exam is coming up soon. But according to this timeframe, he didn’t become a master until 5 years after the conversation. Then I remembered that after failing the exam in BBS, Eraqus tells Terra that “there’s always next time”. Indicating that another Mark of Mastery will be held at a later date and Terra can retake it then. So there are two possible reasons for this discrepancy between the game’s stated timeline and what Young Xehanort says to the Master. Either something happened that caused Odin to delay the exam, or both Eraqus and Xehanort failed and they had to wait a few years before he would allow them to retake it.
The time of when Xehanort found Ventus means that Ven was only living in the Land of Departure for a few months before the start of Birth by Sleep, even though the prologue on Destiny Islands where Sora healed Ven’s heart happened when Sora was still a baby. Since Dark Road emphasized again that time moves at different speeds on different worlds, this means that while 4 years passed on Destiny Islands, only a few months passed in the Land of Departure.
