Winter
The cold, not cruelty makes her weare
In Winter, furrs and Wild beasts haire
For a smoother skinn at night
Embraceth her with more delight
1643 etching by Wenceslaus Hollar copied by his pupil, Richard Gaywood, in 1654. part of a set of 4 etchings depicting the seasons

Year 1643
TW/CW: Death Mention, Homophobia
The year started out calmly enough as Sadie and Isabella prepared for the birth of their child. Larissa's daughter, Hestor married into the Mayne family following the death of the previous family head's wife the previous March. Things were looking up.
Unfortunately, that didn't last as Sadie and Isabella slipped up with their secret relationship and Giovanni finally discovered it.
He couldn't believe that they had been having such a relationship under his roof. Clearly, he thought, that he and his wife had been far too generous with their hospitality that this indecency would occur. He gave the couple until the end of the week to gather their things and leave his home as he would be travelling and wanted them gone before his return other wise he would report them to the rest of the town.
Giulia was horrified to learn that her husband was going to report her beloved cousin and her love but she had little say over his actions and so she did what she could to help them pack after her husband left. During this time, Giulia tried to get them a place to stay since it wasn't as if they could build a home with a young child and while expecting. To her own surprise, her maternal grandmother was willing to take the couple in as she had been widowed again by the war besides, she was no stranger to unconventional relationships subtly implying that Giulia's own mother was the result of the very same magic that allowed for Isabella and Sadie to conceive. Despite her cousin having a safe place to go, it was still a tearful farewell that the two shared before they parted ways.
Still, Giovanni returned home and was content with his course of action calling himself quite benevolent as other folks wouldn't have given the women a grace period to make themselves scarce. For Giovanni the good news kept coming as the new husband his cousin's widow had married died in the war without a child meaning his cousin's son would be uncontested as the heir of the Markovic family still. And he wasn't so heartless that he wasn't relieved to hear that Sadie and Isabella's daughter was born healthy in June.
It was so much lonelier in the home though without the little family and Giulia found herself trying to keep busy to keep her mind off of how empty the home felt.
But the loneliness wasn't to last as after several years of marriage, Giulia was confident that she was finally expecting.
When she finally started showing with just the slightest of bumps, she was deeply excited to share the news with Giovanni. He was equally excited to see the barest hints of their newest family member though he was fully aware that Giulia had chosen to wear the clothes that most drew attention to the bump to tell him the news because it was still difficult to truly tell.
But as months passed, Giulia was very clearly expecting and while some women preferred to not announce their pregnancy, Giulia flaunted it in fears that it would be another several years to even dream of being pregnant again.
The Morosinis had never truly been close before but now that they were expecting, they were at least on the same page in terms of excitement in private. Giovanni didn't want to show too much interest in public as children were mostly a women's thing but away from the public eye Giulia swore that he was more interested in her pregnancy that she was and it was inside her.

Newbury (English Civil War). Fought September 20, 1643, 379 years ago, #war #history #event
Fought September 20, 1643, between the Royalists, under Charles I, and the Parliamentarians, under Essex. The object of Charles was to stop Essex’s march on London, and though his troops held their ground throughout the day, he could not be said to have gained a victory, as during the night he felt himself obliged to abandon his position.

hello!! i’m looking for an eighth year fic where all the students go skinny dipping in the lake (i think cause of the heat) and harry and draco are like the last ones to go in, then they swim to somewhere more secluded and i think they get interrupted by others and then they kiss once they’re out? not entirely sure about that last detail but it’s a pretty short fic on ao3. hope someone knows what i’m talking about, thank you so much!!
