No one is going to think it possible: that far south. No one was going to look for them, that far south.

Quietly they discussed their longitude, recovered some almanac tables they'd committed to memory, went over Lorck's noon sight observations over the past days. But they knew their full position would remain a mystery, unless a well wound chain watch would promptly wash ashore.

"An uncharted island," Remi said, remembering the various Atlantic navigational charts and maps that had gone through his hands, going back to the turn of the century. "No mention of land at this latitude in any Captain's log that I know of."

Now Lorck cleared his throat. "There is, though, sir. Without our measurements I would never have thought it a real possibility."

Instantly Remi turned to him. "Elaborate, please."

"One log from the year 1553, sir, an explorer's log. Captain Jacobsen. No charts, just distance observations through glass."

"Fifteen - " Remi repeated, utterly astonished. "How?"
