day 1
the way he looks (2014)
i can't lie i wanted to give this a low 6/10 just because it looked and initially felt like it was going to be sad. also, mentally i'm in a bad place this week and the poignant feel of it was just making me feel more down. but this is a 9/10 and is not actually as sad as i expected. which says a lot, because often artsy, coming-of-age, lgbt-related films i watch always end up in tragedy. that makes me want to cry!!! almost threw up (bec of my anxiety) throughout some of the more standard lgbt scenes in this movie (i mean the bullying. which i'm mad i am calling standard. but they're always there. on one hand, i know the realities have to be depicted, but on the other hand i can't stop myself from reeling from anger because why must people be assholes?) and i wish all fabios a very fuck-you-hope-you-have-a-bad-rest-of-your-life.
this was a really good movie to start on. it made me want to cry at the end. the lgbt community deserves more happy endings. i'm tired of call me by your name-esque stories of romanticized predatory men and people never ending up together. gay people have to end up together. the world has made them suffer through enough to not at least get the ending they deserve. i love this movie a lot. it knocks off 2 cool 2 be 4gotten (2016) straight off my 'fave lgbt movies' list. it doesn't beat the half of it (2020) for me though.

I think it's interesting that a lot of the critiques about Ted Lasso s3 are very repetitive (so very repetitive) statements about the show being overstuffed with "unrelated" narratives. I agree that it's an absolutely stuffed season, but I'm cool with it because all the arcs feel deeply related to me and I'm honestly having so much fun with it.
S1 was basically perfect. (I mean, nothing is perfect, but s1 gets close.) Each episode was a tightly-edited morsel that felt like something new and wondrous. It had to be an amazing first impression, otherwise it wouldn't have gone anywhere. Then s2 was about isolation and bad choices and the hauntings of past pain rising up, crossing the distance of an ocean or the distance of thirty years to hurt you again, and it was good but deeply imperfect. At times, some of the pain even felt rushed, while some of the episodes dragged, and I say that as a person who enjoyed s2 more than many!
S3 feels like my senior year of college (which, holy fuck, was 15 years ago).
My senior year was very fun and very sad. I ate so much pizza! I went to so many dance parties! I sometimes drank too much and I sometimes thought about adulthood and health and who I wanted to be in the world and stayed sober(er) to care for people having a harder time than I was. I took too many classes and worked really hard. I started a relationship that would overstay its welcome in my life because I didn't know how to be true to myself yet. In other ways, I was true to myself. I wrote the story of what was happening over and over and over.
TL s3 has this meta-awareness of coming to an end, of questioning WHERE Ted should be at the end of the story, and not only Ted, but everyone. All those people who got stranded in their own stories in s2 are finding their way again, and maybe it is messy and self-indulgent and taking a little too long, but tbh if I got the opportunity to tell a story this way I'm pretty sure I'd end up doing the same thing. There's a reason the exact halfway point of the season saw the majority of the cast reconnecting on a bus after spending wildly variant nights.
S1 was perfection and s2 was often great and often YIKES and s3 is like a long, magical night in which you're aware (self-indulgently aware, yes, but there are worse things to be) of the journey ahead but perfectly suspended in the moment.
Ted Lasso, U R 2 Good 2 B 4Gotten!

what did you think about 2 cool 2 be 4gotten?
I think if i had gone into it thinking it was going to be a gay movie(tm) i’d be disappointed but thankfully i went in blind so I really enjoyed it for what it was! I liked how it handled american ideals & desire and all the disappointment & violence that stems from the looming grip of westernization. I feel like Perfumed Nightmare (1977) would be perfect to pair with it, but first I gotta milk out the rest of this month-long gagaoolala subscription I begrudgingly bought solely to watch one (1) movie LOL 🤒 the characterization kinda went off the rails a bit, but maybe that can be attributed to what unchecked internalization(s) does to a bitch 🤯 it’s probably more simplistic than i’m giving it credit for as far as neocolonialism in cinema goes but bc it’s filipino/fil-am, it's Personal & i’m intrinsically bound to it 🔗 but also this killed me
Tumblr media
LOL ok kinda mean but also on the nose since I just watched Tom at the Farm (2013) the other week which had a similar claustrophobic + nightmarish psychosexual descent 🕳️ another review compared it to All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001) which coincidentally also came to mind while watching (though i just haven't really stopped thinking about that film in general for months) - the bleak brutality of adolescence, etc etc ❤️‍🩹💭

Pluto
when I was younger I always felt bad for pluto. the one so far out, the last planet, the one taken out of our solar system.
we were always asked which planet was our favourite. a question followed with jokes about uranus or maybe they picked neptune because it was blue.
but i have always picked pluto and maybe pluto would've picked me too.
pluto was the last one, the smallest, the one what was forgotten. if i asked someone to name the planets, it would not be on that list. because google says that it does not exsist in our solar system. in our group. in our family.
it's always the one that gets names last, it's the after thought. it's the one that you only think of after being told what to think.
but i have always picked pluto and maybe pluto would've picked me too.
because i was the smallest, the littlest, the last one.
So maybe it doesn't have as many moons as Jupiter (1)
And maybe it doesn't have rings like saturn has (2)
and though it maybe not have the comedic relief that uranus has (3) it's still pluto
it may not be blue like neptune (4)
it may not have oxygen like earth (5)
it might not be red like venus and mars (6 and 7)
and maybe it doesn't have a cool name like mercury. (8)
but it is still 1 planet.
maybe it might be forgotten 2 most.
maybe it only has 3 consonants in it's name
maybe its the one that 4gotten
and maybe there is only 5 moons
maybe when I was 6 I might have said I liked how pretty neptune looked
maybe some people could only name 7 planets
so maybe they learned all about them when they were 8 years old on a field trip to a planetarium.
but pluto was discovered in 9teen-thirty
123456789
the ninth planet.
but nonetheless
I have always picked Pluto and maybe Pluto would've picked me.

TOP 5 LGBTQ Films I Liked (JUNE is Pride Month)
1. Call Me By Your Name- this indie romantic drama gave me nostalgia. Captivated by the soundtrack, location, cinematography, summery 80s fashion and the beloved characters of Elio and Oliver. The sex scenes doesn’t felt porn but it was beautifully executed. The lines/quotes are unforgettable. Waiting for this sequel Find Me and i would adore to buy these 2 novels to immerse myself in their sweet moments.
Ratings: 9/10
Fave Soundtrack: Mystery of Love by Surjan Stevens (has that dreamy vibe makes you longing for a lusty love.)
2. Love, Simon- this mainstream teen rom-com gave me all feels. Dedicated for closeted gays who’s afraid in coming out is a highly recommended movie. No sexual content just pure bromance. By far the most relatable film for me because his life has that resemblance. A Disney+ rebooted series is in the works so stay tuned.
Ratings: 8/10
Fave Soundtrack: Strawberries & Cigarettes by Troye Sivan (love the indie electropop hunch.)
3. Alex Strangelove- this netflix teen rom-com tells about Alex Truelove a class A school president student virgin who is in a relationship with his lab partner girlfriend Claire then he met an openly gay graduate Elliot which is the reason of his confusing sexuality. It’s hilariously charming and empathetic.
Ratings: 7/10
Fave Soundtrack: The Promise by Mint Julep (the background song at the ending gave me goosebumps.)
4. Die Beautiful- this critically acclaimed filipino comedy film tells about the story of Trisha a transgender woman who dreams of becoming a beauty queen who also turns out to be a make up artist for the dead. It’s ridiculous and heartening in the ending. A spin-off series Born Beautiful is streamed online set after the events of DB featuring his gay bestfriend Barbs. Some scenes aren’t suitable for very young audiences.
Ratings: 6/10
Fave Soundtrack: none
5. 2 Cool 2 be 4gotten- this filipino indie coming of age drama film is reminiscent. Set in the late 90s it tells about Felix a friendless highschool achiever whose life changes when he met the Snyder brothers Magnus & Maxim entangling him in their dark ambitions. Story was simply well made, sensible and alluring. Redefining the landscape of queer films in the Philippines, Keep it up!
Ratings: 5.5/10
Fave Soundtrack: Okay, Okay, I’m Wrong I’m Sorry by Ourselves the Elves (Drawn by the indie melody and lyrics.)
These movies have a very special place in my heart because i relate to them. I consider myself gay because i’m physically, emotionally and sexually attracted to men so there’s nothing wrong about that. Love knows no gender and we are more than our gender. Being in the third sex is not a choice but it’s my innate nature and I’m very proud of it.

Thank you so much for the recommendation! The trailer looks beautiful. I’m definitely adding it to my watch-list. Here are the links on Dailymotion:
Part 1
Part 2
This is random but I love how the poster looks like it’s from a 90′s movie which is perfect because the story is actually set in the late 1990s.
