DOCTOR WHO MUSIC RABBIT HOLE WOAH

i love finding doctor who in random places, just now I was struggling to find the lyrics of a Belgrado song bc I was hoping to be able to translate it but I ended up on their bandcamp which led me to this persons profile which led me to this other album with this as the cover!?!? hi cybermen i wasnt expecting to see you guys here. but this ended up leading me down a several hour long rabbit hole of doctor who music as a genre

Ok so as I write this post i'm discovering more and more really good doctor who inspired music that I personally enjoy/think others will enjoy

Chameleon Circuit - probably the most well known doctor who fan band, very fun, rock, 2008-2014, according to wikipedia they invented the term "Time Lord Rock", or "Trock", which is used to describe music created for and by doctor who fans about doctor who

Hero of a Hundred Fights - The Remote, The Cold (2001) - Faction Paradox stuff, sort of math-rock, they're really good! lots of BIG SOUND as my brain describes it, and cool lyrics+art, from Wisconsin according to wikipedia, my fellow eda fans, this is for YOU (tbh this and solid space are my favorites so far, chameleon circuit is good but doesn't appeal to me much personally)

Solid Space - Space Museum - as I described above, this stuff has a fun sort of electronic atmospheric feel, makes you feel like you're in a big empty fancy building at night, the kind of music you can wiggle slowly to and feel like a little robot person, has songs called the Tenth Planet and Earthshock, if you like cybermen you'll like this lol

The Art Attacks - I am a Dalek! - fun song! rock, feels very 80s but i don't know much about music tbh oh wait its 1978, pretty close!

Time Crash - another "Time Lord Rock" band, if you want to find them on youtube don't mix it up with the Time Crash: Children in Need special tho. I like the lead's voice a lot! its very chill and fun!

Also, these aren't doctor who themed, just related via actors, but Peter Capaldi was in a post-punk band called the Dreamboys and Billie Piper was a pop artist!

intro: okay so this is just creative writing to up my games for in general fun and creative outlets, (if you have requests or math cup i still write them,message me separate in my ask box) anyway like it or dont this is here for amusement and personal gain. Enjoy <3

          Chapter one 

Maddie could not sleep whatsoever, the hustle and bustle of New York city seemed to encapsulate and  surround her with noise. huddling closer to her laptop, she folded into the soft gray comforter, glaring at the half finished story in her google docs labeled  “to be conjured”. As much as she loved to write, it was difficult for her to sometimes put herself into the shoes of her much beloved favorite owl house characters, Eda  the Owl Lady without making it cringe and sounding painfully inaccurate. Huffing out a sigh, she fell back into the mountain of multi-colored pillows that her cat had made a home out of.The poor cat darted away from its falling mother with an annoyed meow, only to turn back a moment later to sit at the base of the pillow mound.  Bringing her tiered blueish-gray eyes to rest on her cat, maddie sighed sitting up in a half slouch.

“I wish cali was here to edit with me.” she murmured, patting the spot next to her fleece clad hip, peaking the calicos interest.

“She’s just so much better at doing this kind of perspective than I am.”

 Reaching over to offer her left hand, the cat took the opportunity to rub his soft and furry face into her face avoiding the gesture entirely. Maddie giggled pushing him onto the mattress next to her, causing an eruption of loud thrumming purrs to ensue, as she aimed to grab the phone sitting on her shiny birch bedside table.

 The first thing she noticed was the time, at the top of her lock screen, the bright white numbers of 8:46 pm read out, as the soft purple light of her home screen illuminated her face in the dark bedroom, along with the other apps on her cell phone. She pulled up the one labeled as “spotify” turning on the first playlist she could, but just as the music started, a hand tapped maddie on the shoulder. Blue eyes met dark brown ones as April 'o'Neil began to explain an incident that had occurred at the docks where she had recently interrogated a dock worker on the latest foot clan crimes, cutting Maddie off.

“ hey i’m gonna call cali-.” the sentence never finished.

“ Okay I already told skylar but like you have no idea what I just went through,” she inhaled, taking a deep breath and running a hand through her messy dark locks,”I am really freaking out right now.”  concerne and confusion twisted maddie's facial features as she looked up at april who was pacing the tan carpeted floor of the bedroom.

“April are you alright, do you want to sit down and explain?” she stopped, foot in the air as she whipped her head around to face the concerned blond. With a huff, she flopped onto the soft covers.

“Just take a breath,” maddie demonstrated by taking a loud deep breath to which April did as well “,and explain to me what happened.” she finished with a soft smile. For a few moments April sat there collecting and going over the events of the last two hours, pulling it all into words.

“I was riding my bike by the docks, and it's already dark out but there were Foot Clan soldiers everywhere.” it seemed as if she was reliving the memory lost in thought.

“ Then all of a sudden there was this guy,” she turned her head as maddie nodded on trying to comprehend the fact that her roommate was now going off to tell her about how a man threw a several ton cargo box and fought off dozens of terrorists.

Maddie snapped out of there trance as April took a few steps back, not even realising April had gotten up.

“There will be no more froth and foam for me,” she huffed out cocking a hip. Blond brows furrowed as her eyebrows knit together, maddie looking up at april in bewilderment.

“What?” 

exasperated, April sighed.

“You know what, never mind,” she began to walk away but stopped immediately, slurring her head slightly to look back at Raine’s confused expression.” Do you have drama after school tomorrow?”  They smiled and nodded,“Yea, I'll be taking the subway after school.” At April's concerned eyes she quipped an,”I'll be careful, won't talk to anyone I don't know.”

 April smiled tentatively and nodded, closing the wooden door behind her, leaving maddie toe continue writing.

i love fandom history and archivism

i'm personally not as interested in shipping as a lot of others are. i casually ship a lot of things (Helen/Liv, Romana/Leela/Narvin, Spirk, Seven/Raffi, Jadzia/Worf, etc) but i don't take it that seriously and tend to like (queer)platonic dynamics more

i think a lot of ship discourse and arguments over the morality of media are kind of nonsense. do whatever you want and i'll moderate & curate my own online experience

Show Review 📺: The Owl House

The Owl House Review: POTENTIAL SPOILERS

(Sooooooooo I haven't done a review in a VERY long time, and even then when I did reviews I did very brief ones. So I decided that I would do more in-depth reviews and this one will be my first. If I'm not good please bear with me, I'm new to this. With all that being said let's start.)

I first heard of The Owl House from social media and was very hesitant to watch it for two big reasons: First off, I'm not a fan of Disney after 2014. Secondly, the only thing I've heard people talk about was the romantic couple and that turned me off to the show. Not because it was an LGBT+ couple but because I thought that if romance was the only thing talked about then the rest of the show must not have anything of merit. Then one day a good friend of mine was raving about it and I decided to give it a shot.

Before I get to anything I want to say at the time of this review there is still 1 episode that has yet to be aired so I will try to avoid as many spoilers as possible but success is not guaranteed. The story follows Luz Noceda, a good-hearted human kid who was struggling to fit in due to her odd interest and inability to control her impulses. After some incidents at school, her mom was pressured to send her to a camp to “cure” her. Instead of going to the camp, she ends up stumbling into another dimension full of magic and demons, finally making friends and seemingly finding a place to belong and Adventures ensue. That's all I'm going to say regarding what the plot is about in case anyone wants to check the show out & if I described the entire story I'd lose my mind and this review would take FOREVER! Now, this might sound like me fanboying but I enjoy the writing of this show & I'm struggling to think of something to criticize without nitpicking. I hear a lot of comparisons to Gravity falls but I haven't seen that show so I can't speak for that. I can say that the show has some darker elements to it especially when you get to the main villain of the series. The characters themselves, by and large, are very likable and well-written, and despite how short the series will inevitably be very well developed my favorite being Amity but all that is very hard to get into without spoiling the entire series. Ironically the relationship is the thing that had me hesitant to see the show and it ended up being one of my favorite things in the entire show. It's so well done and comes across naturally and without feeling rushed or forced which is a thing that animated shows struggle with. All relationships whether they are platonic, romantic, siblings, or rivalries are well-written and well-developed. The characters themselves are great: Luz is very likable and relatable, Eda is a great mentor/mother figure, King is a little gremlin, & Hooty is probably the funniest. The boiling isles are interesting from a story standpoint but aren't anything new conceptually; it's like some you would see in an ideal anime.

Now if you think the characters are the only thing going for this series that is not the case, the presentation is also top-notch. The boiling isles from a design standpoint are very interesting, dangerous, and zany world that the human protagonist gets stuck in. The creature designs are more unique while I struggle to tell what they are most of the time they fit in so naturally in this world. The character designs are SUBLIME but that's a subjective topic also Amity gets the best outfits. The animation is also beautiful and if you want proof of that look no further than the dance scene in season 1 and all the fight scenes I mean as a whole the show is well well-animated but that scene specifically is just amazing. 

The voice acting shocked me because when it comes to the main cast I was not familiar with most of these actors & actresses. Eda's actress I recognized immediately it's Wendie Malick who is pretty much just doing her normal voice but it fits the character so well. King and Hooty are bafflingly voiced by Alex Hirsch the creator of Gravity Falls showing his very impressive range (he probably voiced characters in Gravity Falls but again I've never seen it) & Amity is voiced by Mae Whitman a voice actress I'm a huge fan of and very familiar with. Some very high-profile voiced actors play more minor characters: Roger Craig Smith, the late Billy Kametz, and 2 of my absolute favorites Grey DeLisle and Erica Lindbeck. I'm not saying the main cast aren't big actors I'm just not familiar with their work and they all do an amazing job with their respective roles

I wanted to save this last bit for some issues I had with the show, but I have nothing negative to say about it. I guess I can say the soundtrack isnt the most memorable aside from the opening and that lovely end credits theme. The soundtrack as a whole isn't bad but nothing remarkable. The lowest point of the show is episode 2 and even then is pretty good stuff. Honestly, the only issue with the show is something that isn't the show's fault and that's its premature cancellation. Despite being one of their most well-received and highly-rated shows Disney decided to cancel it and not give it a full 3rd season. Disney's reason for this was "It didn't fit the Disney brand".....(ugh). Some say it was because of its darker story elements and Imagery. Some say it's because it was hitting older audiences instead of the intended younger demographic. Some say it's because of the LBGT+ representation although the creator herself seems to think that it wasn't the case and I feel it wouldn't have gotten green-lit in the first place if that was the case. If you ask me I think it simply costs too much to make and the production values reflect that and Disney wanted to make budget cuts. Thankfully it's getting a proper ending unlike another one of my favorite shows (*cough* Teen Titans *cough*).

The Owl House is just a gem; it hits every check mark for me. I have gotten way more into this show than I have any cartoon or anime since 2015 and there is a very passionate and wholesome fan base attached to it. I would put this in the same category as Avatar, Batman TAS, & Teen Titans as one of my top PERSONAL favorite cartoons. Never thought I would be praising a Disney product post-2014 but credit where credit is due. Kudos to Dana Terrace for making such a beautiful show and I'll definitely follow what she works on in the future.
