Artificial intelligence is worse than humans in every way at summarising documents and might actually create additional work for people, a government trial of the technology has found. Amazon conducted the test earlier this year for Australiaâs corporate regulator the Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) using submissions made to an inquiry. The outcome of the trial was revealed in an answer to a questions on notice at the Senate select committee on adopting artificial intelligence. The test involved testing generative AI models before selecting one to ingest five submissions from a parliamentary inquiry into audit and consultancy firms. The most promising model, Metaâs open source model Llama2-70B, was prompted to summarise the submissions with a focus on ASIC mentions, recommendations, references to more regulation, and to include the page references and context. Ten ASIC staff, of varying levels of seniority, were also given the same task with similar prompts. Then, a group of reviewers blindly assessed the summaries produced by both humans and AI for coherency, length, ASIC references, regulation references and for identifying recommendations. They were unaware that this exercise involved AI at all. These reviewers overwhelmingly found that the human summaries beat out their AI competitors on every criteria and on every submission, scoring an 81% on an internal rubric compared with the machineâs 47%. Human summaries ran up the score by significantly outperforming on identifying references to ASIC documents in the long document, a type of task that the report notes is a ânotoriously hard taskâ for this type of AI. But humans still beat the technology across the board. Reviewers told the reportâs authors that AI summaries often missed emphasis, nuance and context; included incorrect information or missed relevant information; and sometimes focused on auxiliary points or introduced irrelevant information. Three of the five reviewers said they guessed that they were reviewing AI content. The reviewersâ overall feedback was that they felt AI summaries may be counterproductive and create further work because of the need to fact-check and refer to original submissions which communicated the message better and more concisely.Â

Day 3: favorite scent
Masterlist flufftober
Reblog if you liked it!
When you entered the conference room, the first thing you noticed was the strong scent filling the place. It was men's cologne, and as soon as it hit your nose, it completely overwhelmed you. But it wasn't an unpleasant dizziness; on the contrary, the woody artificial scent drove you wild. You loved autumn simply because of that.
âSorry for the delay,â you apologized to the team, dropping into the last available seat. Next to Spencer.
You quickly grabbed the file that was on the table in your spot and took a glance at your colleague, who gave you a shy smile. You were a bit lost with the specific part your colleagues were reviewing, and he, noticing your confusion, leaned in to help you. Thatâs when the scent you had noticed earlier intensified, and when you turned to him, you realized it was coming from his body.
You registered your colleagueâs light-colored shirt with a neatly tied black tie around his neck. His golden hair slightly brushed his cheek as he helped you, and suddenly you felt nervous, without really understanding why.
Reid found the file you were working on and then placed the folder in your hands. You whispered a small thank you, and he gave you a nonchalant expression, trying to tell you it was no trouble at all.
You had a rule you always tried to stick to, and that was not dating colleagues at work. Simply because it always complicated things. Morgan flirted with you all the time, but that was something he did indiscriminately, so you never took it too personally. As for the rest of the team members, they knew how to keep things professional, plus they were old enough to be your dad. However, that day you wondered if it would be worth ignoring that rule for someone like Spencer.
He was a broken guy, no doubt, and somewhat different from the others. But he was also sweet, polite, so intelligent, and humble that sometimes you found it hard to believe that so many good qualities could fit into one person. And the guy wasnât bad-looking, to be honest. Although he wasnât really your type, since youâd always dated more muscular men with a different lifestyle, exceptions could always exist.
And honestly, maybe his scent had something to do with your sudden fascination with him, because every now and then you sneaked glances at him as if you wanted to admire him with other intentions, not just as your colleague.
âAre you okay?â he asked once JJ finished presenting the case. That swollen belly from pregnancy was already starting to show, and you wondered when she would take her maternity leave.
âYes, why do you ask?â you exclaimed absentmindedly.
âOh, itâs just that you were late. Youâre never late. And besides, you were looking at me a lot during the meeting, so I thought maybe you were worried about something and wanted to tell you that if you need to talk, you can tell me.â
Oh, sweet, sweet boy.
âIâm perfectly fine, Reid,â you laughed. Everyone had already left the conference room. âItâs just that I was so tired last night that I forgot to set my alarm, and then I overslept. But itâs nothing to worry about. Iâm sure it wonât happen again.â
âMaybe you should buy an alarm clock. Did you know the first alarm clock was invented by watchmaker Levi Hutchins in 1787? But it was for personal use only because he made it to wake himself up at 4 a.m. to go to work.â
âI didnât know that. Iâll probably take your advice and get one,â you smiled at him, already used to hearing him have facts about practically every subject.
âWell, you know that if somethingâs bothering you⌠you can tell me whenever you want, okay?â
The sweetness and kindness of this man touched you, and you stretched out to hug him, hoping it didnât cross the line of trust, as it was well-known that the doctor wasnât too fond of physical contact. However, he gladly received you in his arms, making sure to hold you as close as possible.
âI know. Youâre a good friend, Reid,â you thanked him softly. Once you broke the hug, you didnât completely pull away, taking a moment to lean toward his clothes and inhale deeply. âIs your cologne new?â
âUh, yeah. A gift from Morgan. But I think itâs too strong. I donât know if I should keep using itâŚâ
âI completely love the smell of wood,â you blurted out. âAnd it suits you very well. It matches you.â
Upon receiving that compliment, the boy blushed just a little, and still with his hands on your waist, he tried to suppress a smile.
âWell, in that case⌠if you like it, Iâll keep wearing it.â
âNo! I didnât mean that, it was just an observation. You donât have to wear it if you donât want to.â
âMy concern was bothering people with the scent. But now I see thatâs not the case.â
A giggle escaped your lips, and then you pulled away, thinking that if you stayed in that position any longer, it could be considered inappropriate contact.
âIâve always believed that a handsome man should wear good cologne. We women love that.â
The words left your mouth before your mind could reflect on them, and although you were embarrassed, you werenât going to take them back. Spencer didnât know which was worse: the fact that you had just implied he was handsome or that you were suggesting you were charmed by it.
âIâll keep that in mind from now on,â he murmured playfully, almost bordering on a flirtatious tone.
The two of you walked out the door, chatting about a few other things so you could fully focus on analyzing the case once you got on the jet. During that time, he was thinking about two things he definitely didnât want to forget: thanking Morgan and making sure to put on cologne every morning without fail.

sooo i've seen a couple people talking about ai on here before but idk, i guess i'm old & didn't realize people were really using it for full creative projects??? idk after learning about the deactivation of a very popular account on here i just started typing and wrote this dumb drabble - kind of hoping to inspire youngins to not rely on computers so much and know that the BEST work always comes from your own noodle <3
wrote this in like 20 minutes, arguably mark x reader but no real romantic involvement
the line between creativity and computer generated ideas is thin.
the line between depression and contentment is thinner.
you remember being told as a child that "you wouldnât always have a calculator in your pocket!" and that learning how to multiply for tax purposes was IMPORTANT.
except, now, you DID always have a calculator, and it was called a smartphone. it translated languages in real time, video chatted your parents in a different state, and gave you recipes for meals your mom never taught. it was a blessing, a miracle wrapped in sleek metal.
so why, now, did you feel so guilty when using it to give you a synopsis on the book you were meant to read for English?
the rap of knuckles against your bedroom window made you jump as if youâd been caught committing a crime. your heart was lurching out of your chest when you looked.
it was just mark, of course.
smiling. awkward. now tapping with one finger toward the lock.
you stood, shuffled over and fumbled to let him in. jesus mark! you couldâve warned somebody!
âŚbut⌠i texted you like, 30 minutes ago telling youâŚ?
he was trying to reason on deaf ears, your shoulders tight as you paced back to your desk and quickly closed out of the tab that was open. he caught it though â super speed was good for more than just moving.
was that openai? he asked plainly.
huh?
you slap the monitor shut, like the conversation would just be done after that.
i thought you were writing a thesis for your college entry exam?
your face was tight. sour. irritated.
i am, you respond curtly. i just had writers block and needed some help.
markâs pretty lips pulled down and it made your stomach twist. you knew the hero theatrics were coming.
[y/n], i get being tired, or hitting a bump in the road â believe me, i really do. but⌠using artificial intelligence for things like this is just⌠weird, yâknow? i saw this post a few weeks ago about this medical student trying to get his MD and was caught using it to answer questions for an exam. can you imagine that guy passing and then trying to prescribe you narcotics?
your expression was deadpan. was he seriously comparing you to a medical student?
mark sighed, running gloved fingers through his hair before letting his arm fall to his side and smiling at you. listen, you donât need to prove to me your smart. i already know â thatâs why you donât even give me a chance to answer at trivia night.
you had to really focus not to smirk at that. he knew it. he smirked anyway.
so let the board see it too! you have something in your mind worth sharing â even if youâve gotta sit on it for awhile to get it out.
the frustration was still real. the defensiveness too. you wouldnât admit it pointblank â that felt like suicide. but the drop in your shoulders, and the way your eyes wouldnât meet his, were tell enough.
maybe he was right. creativity was dying, and the fight against its ghost was a battle worth waging.

Why Spell Check (and some grammar check) isn't AI
So I've seen in the wake of Nanowrimo some people claim that spell check is AI and thus is like Gen AI, and I saw the claim originator on Twitter, but when I pressed them, they basically tried to say they had a degree in computer science, so when I pressed into them if they knew what they were talking about, they couldn't answer because obviously don't know about AI.
For some background I've done some light programming (If you look at the Korean name generator, that's all me). And I also have relatives that did programming.
Here, I can lay out how spell check works without AI or a fancy algorithm.
The oldest spellchecks didn't use AI or Gen AI, they used what is your basic corresponding tables.
If you use something like google sheets (database), you can do this pretty quickly yourself though with a lot of manpower.
Here is a list of commonly misspelled words.
Add that with another table with how they are commonly misspelled.
Then you need a table with "common typos"
Then you need one more table for "Words the user adds."
The algorithm is basically this: Set up a loop. A loop is a mechanism that has an algorithm (or set of instructions in it) which repeats until a certain instruction is met. This loop with this algorithm will check for words. In this case, anything with letters, usually encompassing ' and - (though some programs ignore dashes).
So[,][ ]it[ ]will[ ]look[ ]at[ ]letters[ ]in[ ]this[ ]sentence[ ]and[ ]figure[ ]out[ ]if[ ]it[ ]is[ ]spelled[ ]correctly.
The first loop in the previous sentence will look at the word "so" by selecting everything it knows to be a letter in English. Tada "S, o" Then correspond that to the dictionary. So shows up in the dictionary listing it has of English words. Thanks Webster. (If you're British, the OED)
The Algorithm concludes the word is spelled correctly. No more work needs to be done on So. The next word is it "i, t" correspond that to the dictionary and so on.
If you have a "bad word" for example "alot" then the work is, word is spelled incorrectly. Next "work to be done" is to find out if this word is in the "commonly misspelled" words list. If yes, then underline the word in red to get it corrected.
AKA run Algorithm to underline word (usually a few lines of code if you're doing it the old way).
Then the algorithm moves on. The function of right click/Cntrl click is saying, OK, this word, "alot" is it commonly misspelled? Here are a list of corrections according to this other table. This is the work that needs to be done: We need a popup table. We need to pull from the database this misspelling, and then we need to pull from this other database and pull corresponding correct spellings based on this. Then you set up an if-then If the user clicks on this word, change highlighted word.
This is your basic spelling algorithm. You do not need gen AI for this or AI.
Grammar works similarly. You need a table, the type of speech it is (n, v, adv, adj) and then to load in "rules" one should use. You do not need AI. You need some basic programming skills. On the table of somewhere between "Hello, world" (1) and "OMG, I created artificial intelligence like Data " (10) My "Korean name generator" is like 2.5? in difficulty (minus all of the language and cultural knowledge). Haha. Still mocking myself. But a Spellcheck is not far from that. it is like 3. You could build one fairly easily with PHP and database access to a dictionary and misspelled words with corrections.
But Google pulled from the Enron Emails.
In this case, you can sorta fuzzy logic it and create bigger algorithms, mostly to sort out the *grammar* and *New words* that were used that aren't already in the database, which basically is another loop, but with an add to database function. (i.e. table). Then you would correspond this with another loop to look at "odd grammar" and flag it.
You can use AI to sort it faster than a basic algorithm, but nope, you do not need AI to correspond it. A basic algorithm would do. You can also use AI for "words that look similar to this one" and "Words commonly used in place of this one"
But overall, You do not need AI for a grammar check. You only need a dictionary, a set of commonly held rules of English and exceptions (maybe some Noam Chomsky, though he's controversial), and then some programming skill to get past the hurdle.
But Grammar check could use AI
AI as it stands is basically a large algorithm to match large datasets to the words you use. But the problem is that the datasets are taken from users who did not volunteer to put in that information.
It is not Data on Enterprise have novel experiences of every day and learning how to function in the human world by processing it through a matrix of quantum computing.
So WHEN grammar check does use AI, the AI is mostly doing the crunching of the corresponding the information into a more neat table option, as I understand it. It is not the same thing as Gen AI or your average spell check and Microsoft algorithm from say 2000.
Those are not equal things. Instead, adding Gen AI to say, Microsoft Word, is more like stealing your words for the machine (which BTW, Microsoft absolutely did and you need to transfer out to Anti-AI programs/Apps.) and corresponding them for Gen AI future use for people who can't write worth a damn, and then "averaging" it out. Elew. Who wants to write to the average? That's anti-Creative.
And just because it uses an Algorithm, doesn't automatically use AI.
Look, I can write a algorithm now:
Loop: If you want to be strong...
Go outside.
Do cardio.
Go lift weights.
Make sure you eat a healthy diet and balanced which includes reducing refined sugars and do not eat bad fats.
That equally is a set of instructions, but that's not automatically AI.
I programmed my calculator to spit out the quadratic formula. And this isn't even officially programming, this is a script. Dudes, if you're going to call that AI, then you need help with learning computer programming.
The threshold for making AI v spellcheck is a lot, lot higher programming than a set of simple tables and a loop that looks for letters and spaces corresponding it to an existing dictionary. If that's you're threshold for AI, then when you type words, you are caught in an algorithm. Ooooooo... OMG, when you pull up a dictionary to spellcheck yourself, that's AI. C'mon. The threshold is a might higher to make AI or "victim of algorithm" as in Twitter.
So anytime someone says, "All Spellcheck uses genAI/AI" Laugh in their faces and say no. 'cause like, I'm a terrible programmer, and even I'm like, Meh, not that hard to set up spell check, give me a solid dictionary database and I'll do ya.
That said, A human will beat AI on grammar anytime and will be able to sort weird spellings faster and A-OK, or not.

;R1999 A Study on Afflatus (I)
Analysis and theories regarding the concept of Afflatus within the universe of Reverse: 1999
if you're from the old r99 news server or the current r99 rp one (or if you've talked to me at any point about r99) then you might know how obsessed I am with afflatus analysis!
so after going feral on my main account about it, and seeing my afflatus thesis drafts just catch dust on my wips, I decided to just open a discussion about it in the fandom! just little by little as I get the thoughts out of my brain!
so yes, this is very much an invitation for people to discuss and theorize about smaller details of the game such as afflatus, medium and other things--there are many fun ways to interpret the way afflatus applies to characters, I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts! ping me in your posts, go feral in the reblogs or comments!
as usual, transcripts were taken from the R1999 Neocities transcript project!
During the first few months of GL's launch, "Afflatus" was generally considered an extradiegetic aspect of the game--a simple mechanic meant to facilitate gameplay for the player, without any relevance to the lore or the plot. Throughout the course of the following patches, namely within the main story, this idea was disproved in many ways, and there were plenty of clues that reinforced its existence in-universe from the very beginning. For the sake of those who have never noticed, I'll do my best to be thorough, but there may be some instances of Afflatus that I missed, feel free to let me know!
The very first time Afflatus is mentioned is in the main story; Chapter 01 - Stage 4 "Chicago Rescue," Sonetto is the one to bring it up during one of the battle tutorials.
Sonetto: That's quite a lot of critters! Timekeeper, we must do something to turn things around now. Remember what the instructor said in class? "Afflatus is a way to hunt in the world." "Observations of the minerals, plants, stars, and beasts as well as our experiences with the spirit and intelligence let us better understand our own existence." Sonetto: Select a proper target for me, Timekeeper. Sonetto: Use an incantation that is strong against the enemy's Afflatus to defeat them more quickly. You can take it from here, Timekeeper.
The fact that this conversation takes place during a game tutorial doesn't instantly render the contents discussed as "just meta," since we've had many different instances of game mechanics being relevant to the overall history and worldbuilding of the setting; Artificial Somnambulism Therapy is both a game mode and a type of therapy developed by Mesmer Jr's family, used extensively within Laplace, as well as a key plot point in Chapter 3 "Nouvelles et Textes pour Rien"; Picrasma Candy is a way for the player to continue playing and an actual medicine for arcanists developed by Medicine Pocket that Argus heavily depends on to use her own arcanum. Bluepoch makes a point to further develop their story through these mechanics, thus it is impossible to separate them from the story itself--battle conversations, daily tidbits, loading screens, items and other details can all be considered canon! Afflatus is no different.
Another early instance of Afflatus occurs in the Tutorial Notebook, which disappears forever once completed--so the following screenshot was taken from this video!
The text reads:Â
Sometimes, our Afflatus is strong or weak against an enemy. We need to follow this principle and select the proper arcane skills based on the enemy. Strong or weak? Like a cat to a rat? The relationship between different Afflatuses is like the ecological cycle. When your Afflatus is strong against the target's, your incantation will deal more damage. â On Afflatus, Chapter 1
The sticky note implies the existence of a book or research on the subject ("On Afflatus, Chapter 1") which, in turn, supports Sonetto's dialogue about the Afflatus lessons she received in SPDM ("Remember what the instructor said in class?"). With this we can understand that Afflatus exists within the world to a degree that allows it to be studied, also eliminating one of the earliest theories in GL about how Vertin is the only person who can perceive Afflatus due to her status as the Timekeeper.
To my knowledge, there are no direct explanations nor clues as to why or how one would discern Afflatus in others as of writing this. What is the point of assigning Afflatus types in-universe? How can it be done? Sadly, I don't have answers to these questions in particular!
But let's analyze our current examples so far.
According to Sonetto's knowledge on the subject, Afflatus encompasses "observations of the minerals, plants, stars and beasts as well as our experiences with the spirit and intelligence," that allows people to understand themselves. This serves as a list of both Natural (Mineral, Plant, Star, Beast) and Primal (Spirit, Intellect) Afflatuses, while hinting towards the purpose of Afflatus as a tool of introspection.
With this, one may theorize that Afflatus can apply to every living being, as it tackles observations with the surrounding world (Natural Afflatus) and one's inner world (Primal Afflatus). This is partially true, there is a small yet important distinction to be made!
The 1.5 "Revival! The Uluru Games" patch explored the physiological and social differences between humans and arcanists through Ezra and Spathodea, and a new batch of loading screen tidbits were added, such as this one:
The text reads:
The arcanum's Afflatus categories do not apply to humans. However, factors such as personality and preferred instruments may cause certain individuals to have a closer affinity to a particular type of arcane Afflatus.
This daily tidbit confirms that arcanum's Afflatus categories do not apply to humans. The rest of tidbits emphasize on the contrast between the two groups in different aspects; humans cannot cast arcane skills, they use technology and commands rather than incantations, they're considered rational instead of passionate, reason vs instinct, etc etc.
But I believe there is an important distinction to be made! The first loading screen tidbit mentions "arcanum's Afflatus categories," rather than Afflatus itself. There is an aspect of Afflatus that is directly linked with arcanum, and thus it makes sense that it cannot be applied to humans.
We can see this happening in Greta Hoffman's report from the Special Chapter - "The Star" in which she explains her interactions with 37's mother, 77. Here are a few excerpts.
Writer of the Report: I'm not sure whether she was making fun of me or being serious, but I had this feeling that she was eager to tell me how she was granted the secret through a moment of afflatus. It seemed she just saw through the laws behind all things instead of finding them through logical deduction.
"HER": "The rhombus can't be seen with eyes. You shall close your eyes, hearken to the teaching of the supreme existence, and seize the moment of afflatus!" Writer of the Report: Of course, I didn't see anything, nor did I understand what a moment of afflatus was. Perhaps it's just another privilege enjoyed by arcanists, just like their right to be lunatic. Nevertheless, she reached the correct conclusion in a completely wrong way. Is it really possible?
Writer of the Report: But, if there is a god, why are you playing such a prank on us, after we had suffered from the collapse of all the existing orders and the failure of all the great laws? If this is what she called the glimpse of the supreme existence, the moment of afflatus, do you have to present it in such a cruel way?
Even Matilda brings up afflatus during this chapter, in reference to her job monitoring new members.
Matilda: &$#% ... I know she's a rookie, but even so, she's way too unbelievable! "Guide new members with caution and patience. Trigger their afflatus at the right time." Oh, I have to admit, Vertin is doing it better than me for now.
Note the distinction between capital A "Afflatus" and lowercase "afflatus." In this context, the "moment of afflatus" exists as its namesake implies--as an inspiration, a moment of divine impulse that only arcanists can utilize and, therefore, cannot be explained nor proved through human logic.
That is the basis for the tension between Greta Hoffman (a mixed whose arcane blood has been so diluted she can easily pass off as a pure-blooded human) and 77 (a pure-blooded arcanist from an isolated and ancient arcanist society) as two characters from vastly different groups that cannot reconcile nor find a middle ground in their differences. This is the arcane aspect of Afflatus as the 1.5's tidbit mentions, the part that cannot be applied to mankind. But Afflatus also exists as a tool of introspection as mentioned before, which encompasses aspects that any living being can relate to--therefore, it explains why we have both playable and non-playable humans with Afflatus types.
To further understand how non-arcane living beings can still lean towards different types of Afflatus, let's examine the enemies in the game.
The main story is very consistent with how they portray enemies, if you pay attention to their battle information you can see all the deliberate details Bluepoch has added; every enemy comes with a short description that might evolve and change along the story in future renditions of their fights, there are different card sets for different factions (Manus Vindictae's deep black and blue cards vs the Foundation's white and light blue cards), each attack/incantation is uniquely named, giving context and insight into the enemy you're fighting, some even have uniquely named traits/buffs/debuffs!
And as far as I know, every single enemy in the game, regardless of whether they're arcane in nature or not, has an Afflatus assigned to them. Let's look at arcane beings first.

We see that all three examples match their respective Afflatus; a Mineral Carbuncle with a Mineral Afflatus, a Dryad, commonly associated with nature has the Plant Afflatus, and Druvis III, a playable character, retains her Plant Afflatus even as a mysterious NPC boss fight in which her regular incantations have been switched to Manus Vindictae.
And we can also see continuity in Afflatus in other bosses, such as Matilda and Lilya in later chapters--they both retain their own Afflatus as playable characters, and much like Druvis, Matilda's cards are concealed as the default Foundation set for the sake of keeping their identities concealed. There is a clear intent behind these choices.

In the Surface levels of Artificial Somnambulism, the ones that directly correlate to the main story, also feature many other playable characters with their respective Afflatuses; La Source in "Misty Lake a"; The Fool, Bunny Bunny, Pavia, Satsuki and Tennant in "Floating Park a" ...
And I do want to mention that there are instances in which the game allows us to fight playable characters whose Afflatuses have been changed--but there is still an clear goal behind this.
The beta levels of Artificial Somnambulism feature the same aforementioned characters as the alpha ones, but a few of them have different Afflatus. This can be explained within the main story as the direct result of Vertin's mind being tampered with, as we see her struggle to remember and forget things clearly during her AST induced coma in Chapter 3.
???: Her traumatic segment has been reactivated. Increase the power, stabilize her psychube. Try the next dream. Z: The artificial somnambulism therapy may not work on her, Mesmer.
Mesmer Jr.: It means she had suffered the same traumatic experience repeatedly. Even so, she showed no behavioral or cognitive impairment. Back then, as we held her down and put the helmet on her, she even advised me in an extremely calm manner ⌠âI agree with your judgment, but itâs just for this time.â ⌠She was the bellwether of the âbreak-awayâ incident after all. Iâll say sheâs been well-behaved this time. Sonetto: ⌠I-I thought ⌠Timekeeper is receiving for her low spirit. But you said you held her down ⌠Mesmer Jr.: Oh, thatâs just another description of the method used for the same purpose. The aim was to ensure Vertin was unconscious and taken back. Thatâs the direct order from the vice president of the committee, Constantine. The order from on high was given on the premise of rational thinking and consideration over pros and consâyou are not questioning the reasoning of mankind, are you?
A similar situation happens during UTTU Week, which features playable characters as different characters within the story that UTTU is attempting to share. For example, in 1.2 "Nightmare at Green Lake," the playable characters you fight in UTTU Week represent various different archetypes and tropes in horror.
These inconsistencies are done on purpose, as they're not meant to reflect the truth 1:1.
Now, let's look at human enemies. Here are the two human children from the beginning of the game who disrupt the suitcase--despite being humans, they both have Afflatus assigned to them, and not only that but different types as well, Star and Mineral respectively.

So, to backtrack again! Afflatus cannot be applied to humans from an arcane point of view, simply because humans cannot cast incantations. Therefore, their affinity for a specific type of Afflatus is based on something else, something that they share with arcane beings--such as personality, experiences and preferred instruments.
I want to propose the interpretation of Afflatus being the totality of one's experiences in life; depending on your experiences, the way they've shaped your thinking patterns, your instincts and your personality, you may have an affinity for one Afflatus or another.
This ties in with a different aspect of Afflatus: the idea that one's Afflatus type can change, as the person goes through big changes in their life that influence them in different ways.
If we acknowledge that these battle details are all deliberate and meant to add to the narrative, there are two outliers whose Afflatuses change. The first one is Kakania herself; her debut in 1.7 "E Lucevan le Stelle" includes a fight against her in Stage 8 "Mirror and Lantern" which clearly states her Afflatus is Intellect.
One could argue that this is not the true Kakania, as the battle involves fighting mirror versions of her--but as a reminder, the true one is, in fact, hidden among them! And furthermore, if the reflections are exact versions of the real Kakania, it makes sense that they would have the same battle information as her.
As we all know, when Kakania becomes playable in 1.9 "Vereinsamt," her Afflatus is not Intellect but Plant--I'd like to explain this change as the development Kakania goes through in this specific arc of the story.
Her idealistic views and activism, both for her city and her patients, are directly challenged as the story progresses. She realizes that none of her friends within The Circle were the people she thought them to be, namely Isolde whose complex life and struggles were both overlooked and impossible to discern in Kakania's eyes due to their close relationship, and she also sees the town she acknowledged as flawed but still worth fighting for, turn into violent patriots. Everything that Kakania stood for is gone in an instant, and we see her fighting spirit turn into a desperate near-suicidal attempt at making up for her perceived wrongs.
Such radical events like this would warrant a change in Afflatus, as Kakania adjusts her views due to her experiences.
And then on the other hand, we have The Guiding One's Harbringer boss fight in 1.9's Stage 21 "A Homage Paid"--one of its core mechanics is to change Afflatus to that of the last attack it received. Here we see that distinction from before, the lowercase afflatus referring to the arcane aspect, rather than the experiences a person goes through.
As far as I know, this section of the game also becomes unplayable (or is currently unplayable, I can't seem to access it anymore) so the following screenshots are taken from this video!
Kakania's Afflatus change is something that seems to be directly linked to her evolution as a character, while the Guiding One's Harbringer's Afflatus change is directly linked to its status as an arcane construct, using it as a "mimic strategy" during battle. The psychological aspect vs the arcane aspect of Afflatus respectively.
Next, I'd like to discuss some assumptions made about the different Afflatus types; we expect that Beast characters must have an affinity with animals or be animals themselves (Darley Clatter, Getian, Medicine Pocket, Nick Bottom ...) and we expect that Star characters are all related to celestial bodies or the skies (37, Lilya, Matilda, Lorelei, Voyager ...) due to the naming conventions of the Afflatus. And yes, there are motifs within the Afflatus types that match their naming conventions, but a quick look through the character list prove there is much more to offer, as a good chunk of characters don't align with this initial read of their themes.
We have Pickles, a literal dog, and Kaalaa Baunaa, an astronomer, both with Mineral Afflatus instead of what one would expect of them. It's similar to how fandom perceives Awakened as the sole category for sentient objects, when we have characters like Door and Darley Clatter who are undoubtedly objects, implied to have been given sentience, and thus fall within the group of pure-blooded Arcanists rather than Awakened.
I would also like to point out that these initial motifs have nothing to do with a character's Arcanum--another theory I've seen around is that Afflatus types influence an arcanist's arcanum, which can't be further from the truth. One could argue that Kaalaa Baunaa's arcanum (the summoning of meteors and planets) is related to her Mineral Afflatus--both relate to rocks, after all--but just like the previous assumptions, this falls apart when you examine other examples. Jiu Niangzi's arcanum has nothing to do with rocks nor minerals, but liquor. Ulu's arcanum revolves around fire, yet she's still Mineral.
As far as we know, arcanum is something that can be inherited through bloodlines or lineage--think of Mesmer Jr's 01 Story in her Cover Profile, which states âNobody is more talented in this than Mesmer Jr. Her bloodline gives her outstanding ability and keen senses, which makes everything clear and intelligible to herâ in the context of performing AST, or Tennant, whose 02 Story hints towards her father performing the same type of arcanum she's known for--but it's also something that can be taught. We see this most clearly within students of SPDM such as Sonetto, as her skill set matches that of the SPDM students fought during Chapter 3, portraying the "standard" arcanum taught to all arcanist children.
But not only that, arcanum can be influenced by other factors, such as a character's situation and interests--Blonney's arcanum revolves around making drawings come to life, which correlates with her love for storytelling and horror as a child. Pavia's shadow arcanum is hinted to have been formed out of necessity or as a result of his childhood in a dark basement. Tooth Fairy utilizes the fairies she traps.
We also know that arcanists from the same family may not inherit the same level of arcane power, as seen in Shamane and Kumar; the latter was cast out of her family due to her weak arcane power. In all of these cases, Afflatus has nothing to do with arcanum.
So what exactly do Afflatus types tackle?
These are the Afflatus as I've analyzed them, as much as I could summarize it for easier digestion!
With this interpretation, we can see that Star relates to celestial objects and the skies, but also trailblazer geniuses and unstoppable forces, that which is out of reach for common people. Mineral relates to solid materials and stability in permanence, but also the rigidness of strict systems or traditions or stagnancy. Beast relates to wild animals and creatures found in the world, but also the survival of the individual, the struggle to find a place for oneself no matter what. And Plant relates to the flora and the natural cycles in the world, but also the safety of a collective, that which is inherent to the world such as community or change.
This is why these belong to the Natural category of Afflatus: they are concepts that already existed on the world or were manifested into it, from the ground we touch, the people we interact with, to the ideals and beliefs that influence and create societies or bring people together.
On the other hand we have Spirit, relating to the soul, the supernatural and the spiritual aspect of things, but also the unknown, to follow one's gut instinct or embrace the inexplicable. "The way I see the world is unconventional, because I feel these different things about why and how things are the way they are." And then Intellect, relating to the mind and the logical aspect of things, but also the different mindsets and patterns of thought one can have to rationalize things. "The way I see the world is unconventional, because I have these different rules about why and how things are the way they are."
This is why they belong to the Primal category of Afflatus: they are, as the name implies, ancient impulses and habits that mostly exist within ourselves, our thoughts and our feelings.
The Tutorial Notebook also mentions an "ecological cycle," there is a relationship between the different categories that explains why some are strong or weak against others. It's rather easy to understand for the Primal Afflatus, as it's the classic fight between hearts and minds, but Natural Afflatus is a little harder to grasp.

We see the relationship between Beast and Mineral; the former is weak against the latter, the latter is strong against the former. You may read the Natural Afflatus wheel clockwise or counter clockwise.
Using the previous explanations, let us examine this cycle!
Beast is strong against Plant, because it's the disruption of a community or the harmony of the world through a single individual desperately fighting to change their current situation. A desperate animal does not think about the consequences its actions has on the environment while it tries to survive. Plant is strong against Star, because it's a tight-knit collective that embraces change and thus, the lone genius cannot shine above the rest. In an environment that welcomes everyone and everything, there is no way to stand out. Star is strong against Mineral, because it's a single individual choosing to disrupt the status quo, the stability of their society, for the sake of a dream or ideal. A single genius can topple over entire societies. And Mineral is strong against Beast, because a rigid set of rules or traditions leave no place for those who don't fit inside of it or who oppose it. A government that advocates for mankind's superiority leaves no room for arcanists and their rights, it forces them to assimilate within their established rules.
And this cycle goes backwards and forwards!
But I would also like to propose a different type of relation: we understand the aspect of having advantage or disadvantage, but what about Afflatuses that directly mirror each other?
Beast and Star are two Afflatus that directly correlate to an individual against a collective, whereas Mineral and Plant are two Afflatus that directly correlate to a collective against the individual. They're foils of each other; Beast is the underdog, Star is the genius, while Mineral is the stagnant and rigid yet stable and secure systems while Plant is the ever-changing and adaptive nature of the world.
We may also see this in a more precise way: the ecological cycle and Afflatus relationships exist because someone of Mineral Afflatus who is stuck in their ways and refuses to change can be easily upset by someone of Star Afflatus whose nature is to radically change traditions and offer different paths. This is why Semmelweis, a Mineral Afflatus who is hellbent on clinging to the human aspect of herself and sticks to her stubborn mindsets, has such a fascination with Lorelei. Or rather, why Lorelei has such an effect on Semmelweis, as she is a Star Afflatus that begins Semmelweis' journey of self-discovery and acceptance within Series of Dusks.
We can also see previous themes discussed within this post here: one would think that such a radical change is enough to cause Semmelweis to change Afflatus, but we see through her gamemode and the different endings presented that this change is still very much in line with her mindsets and behaviour, Semmelweis remains stubbornly adaptive and pragmatic to the very end, and choosing to follow Lorelei has brought her a deeper insight to understand herself without radically changing who she truly is.
Another example would be Forget Me Not and Druvis III; we know that Forget Me Not is Mineral Afflatus due to his boss fight in Chapter 2 - Stage 13 "Documentary" and Druvis III is Plant Afflatus.
We see the foil dynamics of Afflatus that don't directly interact with each other: the reason Forget Me Not and Druvis III seem to have this type of relationship can be explained through their Afflatus, with Forget Me Not insisting that she perpetuates the very same cycle of revenge and pain, to never move on and continue in the same spot of grieving and mourning for her family. While Druvis III's entire development throughout the Chicago arc--and even leading into the next chapters--tackles her desire to grow and move on, to finally let go of the worst night of her life that took her family away and begin healing from it. It's exactly what Vertin notices within her, and why she's able to connect with Druvis III.
Vertin: Once you dispel the arcanum, it would not be what it is now. I think you are clear, Ms. Druvis, that ⌠Every tree lives for tomorrow.
And that's where I'll leave this extremely long introduction to my study on Afflatus! I'm planning on discussing other themes in the future, such as the way a character's Medium serves as a bridge between their Afflatus and Arcanum, and analysis of the cover profule, but also proper in-depth analysis of each individual Afflatus!
There is so much to look at when discussing Afflatus, every single Insight material has its own description, and each stage for each Afflatus tells a story that relates to their themes!
Please don't be afraid to reach out with your own ideas or observations, I look forward to what everyone else thinks! And congratulations for making it this far <3

Nature and I were one.

words: 1,6k
Charlotte Matthews x Fem!Reader
type: fluffy & angst. You and Lottie were in situation ship and now you met again after two months, what could go wrong with an ex cult leader? I will be accepting requests <3
ty @lotties-ashwagandha for the beginning idea!!
Sorry if I have some errors, english itâs not my first language. Enjoy your reading. <3
You were waiting impatiently at the traffic light, a silly song playing on the radio while your fingers lightly tapped the steering wheel.
Everything was fine. You were thinking about getting home to catch up on some of the assignments for the advertising company where you worked; and the workload had doubled since they now had to come up with something more impressive than what artificial intelligence could produce.
However, your thoughts scattered when you saw herâher fur coat, stepping out of the bank. Charlotte Matthews. You thought she was either in the psychiatric facility or leading her heliotropic cult like she had been since you met her.
But no, there she was. You hadnât ended on bad terms with her; it had been a few months of good sex, and you had just stopped seeing each other because the distance from the city to her wellness center was too far. Youâd had really good sex that night two months ago when you both said, âWell, I guess itâll be a while until I see you again, if I ever do.â You got up shaking, and that feeling lingered for a few days.
You loved her in secret. You would have been in a relationship with her. But God, she was so far away.
You saw her step toward the curb, trying to catch a cab. When the light turned green, you drove up to her as quickly as possible and stopped beside her. You rolled down the window and leaned toward that side of the car. âNeed a ride?â you asked, lowering your sunglasses to see her.
âY/N?â she asked. She licked her lips, hesitated a moment, and then got in. Her perfume filled the car, and she kissed your cheek. âYou look good,â she said as she buckled her seatbelt.
âYou too.â You started driving. âDo you have plans?â
âI think Iâve got the afternoon off.â She rested her head on the cushion, watching how your hair had grown over the past two months, tracing your features, like she always did.
âDo you want to come home and⌠talk?â
âCan we order Chinese food?â she asked first.
âWe can,â you said, glancing at her at a red light. âAnd youâre not paying,â you added before she could say it.
On the way, you talked about the psychiatric hospitalâthough she didnât tell you much. They couldnât lock her up because of her religion, and her meds kept her stable. Everything was fine. She told you about the death of one of her friends, which was somehow one of the reasons she lost her center.
When you got to your apartment, she took off her coat and helped you with your workâor rather, she made you tea and played with your hair while you worked and chatted. You told her youâd gotten a better position at work, that you were thinking of adopting a cat, and about some of the problems you were having with your friends.
âCan you order the Chinese food and let me cook myself some veggie noodles? Please.â She gave you those big brown eyes you could never say no to; though you didnât understandâWhy did she want you to order Chinese if she wasnât going to eat it with you?
Still, you didnât deny her request. You drank some wine while you waited for your food and helped her cook her own.
The odd part came when the doorbell rangâshe was the one who went to the door with your money. She took an envelope from the pocket of her coat that you didnât get to read. You heard her close the door a moment later and saw her sit on the couch beside you, now carrying a new kind of tension.
âIs everything okay?â you asked, setting her hot dish on the coffee table. She placed the cardboard bag there too. She didnât look at you for a moment, adjusting herself beside you, sideways. âLottie,â you called again, softly now, a bit worried by the look in her eyes. You tilted your head to get a better view of her.
âCan I stay the night?â she finally asked. She looked at youâand she looked so⌠so lost. Lottie was never lost. She was always the guide.
âLottie,â you murmured, not to say noâher nickname slipped from your lips with⌠was pity? You just knew she wasnât telling you everything, and you wanted to help.
âIâm sorry, that was stupid,â she said quickly, standing up. âI should go.â When she turned, you took her hand and gently pulled her back to you.
âStay.â It was a plea.
You intertwined your fingers with hers. âTalk to me.â You gently caressed the back of her hand.
She took a breath. âI lost everything. And I ruined so many lives thinking I was helping people.â She let out a bitter laugh. âI lost my home, I lost the Wellness Center, my friends think Iâm insane, Iâve never⌠never felt so lost.â
Her voice broke, but she didnât look at you, trying not to cry. She sobbed, and you moved closer, letting her speak while your free hand gently tucked her dark hair behind her ear.
âI thought I was helping people, truly healing them. Lisa was like a daughter to me, you know? And now sheâs back on cigarettes, she has that same look in her eyes from when I first met her. I couldnât fix anything. I didnât help anyone. If Iâd done better, I wouldnât be like this. Itâs my fault.â The delivery girlâŚ
You pulled her into a hug. She finally broke, crying into your neck, a silent scream while you whispered, âShh, itâs okay,â into her ear. You held her as long as she cried, comforting her, reassuring her that she did the best she could, that she had helped a lot of people, and if they relapsed, it wasnât really her fault. That things would get better.
When she finally pulled away from your neck, you wiped her tears with your thumbs and kissed her face, feeling her slowly relax. The food went cold, but that didnât matterânot really.
âDo you want to go to bed?â It was your turn to comfort her. She always helped you when something happenedâfights with your parents, with your friends, always offering useful advice. She was older than you, and if your problems were like the ones sheâd once had, her advice was more precise.
âYes, please.â You took her hand and led her to your room. She hadnât seen your apartment until that day. The walls were white, a bunch of photos stuck on them with your friends, a TV, two shelves of books, a decent closet, and some plants.
âI know itâs not much,â you said, a little embarrassed, used to her home, as you turned on a small lamp. âBut itâs something,â you added.
She shook her head and waved a hand, dismissing your words. âItâs perfect.â She walked over to you and, to your surprise, kissed youâsoftly, sweetly, slowly.
But what surprised you even more was when you felt her guide your hands to the straps of her dress. You gently pulled away. âLottie,â you said, confused by her action since she didnât look like she wanted to have sex.
âWhat?â
âYou donât have to do this to stay the night.â You clarified, and she let out a relieved sigh.
âReally?â she asked, just to be sure.
âReally.â You lifted the straps back up, let your hands slide from her arms to her cheeks, and kissed her slowly, with no rushâjust one slow kiss, and you pulled away gently.
âThank you,â she whispered warmly. You lent her some pajamas and sat with her in bed after your nighttime routine. You sat behind her, gently brushing her hair, braiding it. You remembered how she used to get out of bed just so youâd do that.
âAll done.â She thanked you and crawled into bed beside you. You talked about all the good things sheâd done while cuddling her like she used to do for you, and suddenly she confessed:
âI think sometimes I miss the woods.â She had told you about that beforeâthe first time she did was when you asked why sheâd chosen to live in nature so⌠literally. How sheâd bundle up so much to keep the cold from getting to her bones.
âWhy?â you asked, lying close, your breaths brushing against each other.
âI think I was never as⌠free again. I didnât have to take pills. No one called me crazy. Nature and I were one. I⌠I think I belong to that. I donât know, I miss it. No one judged us, it was 1998, homophobia was⌠but there, in the woods, no one judged us. We could be ourselves. I could be myself. Sometimes I just want to go back.â Lottie fell silent, then chuckled. âWhy are you looking at me like that?â
âYou just look so beautiful talking about something you truly love, like nature. Your eyes shine so much.â Charlotte often told you the terrible parts (not the terrible things they did), but mostly she also said things like this.
âShut up, brat.â But you didnât get to answerâshe kissed you gently, and when she pulled back, you said something else cheesy and kissed her again. âOh, you want to do thisâkissing before sleep like we were teenagers?â And it felt so good to just do that. So soft.
âYes. And Iâm not far off from being a teenager again.â You kissed her while you cuddled her. It was simply soft. You werenât looking for anything more than thatânot in this moment, not tonight. Just kisses.
âWould you come with me?â she asked after a while, in your ear, as she hugged you to fall asleep.
âTo the woods? Lottie, Iâm afraid of bears,â you murmured just before dozing off. It wasnât a 100% answer. You werenât taking it seriously.
âIâll have to kidnap you,â she whispered, kissed your head, and rested hers on top of yours, wrapping her whole body around you. âIâm not letting you go. Not again.â

Huzzahh, it's species number 3! (There's a total of 6, including humans. 7 if you count artificial intelligences, 8 if you count the uhh other intelligences).
An official up to date visual for everyone's favorite communist amphibians, the Kixeli, and some up-to-date info!! ->
Kixeli are a small sophont species hailing from a planet covered mostly in ocean. They are amphibious, and originally evolved to switch between swimming and climbing using their webbed hands and powerful arms.
Their skin is permeable, allowing them to extend their time underwater to hunt and gather as well as reproduce, but due to their larger body and brain size/oxygen needs this isnât sustainable and they must return to the surface.
Alongside their frequent trips outside the water, they also have a mucus layer and several specialized glands (including in their face by their eyes) to help remove excess salt and change levels of urea in their body to help make sure they dont lose resources when in the ocean.
Kixeli are omnivorous, with a focus on fruits and sealife. many cultures have a preference against eating anything that lives above water, including birds and the like, because they see themselves as spiritual equals to those animals as fellow air breathers.
They are oviparous, and have a specific mating season.
Most Kixeli have multiple variable spawn partners and see it as strange to be nailed down to one. Anyone who participated lays their eggs in a communal tide pool carved out in their communities.
Hatchlings are entirely aquatic wirh gills until later months of age, where they will begin to poke their head above water for air and start interacting more with the adults around them, who feed them a nutritive crop milk as they have already absorbed most of their tail by now.
This period is also the beginning of their understanding of language.
Once they lose their tail and grow in their limbs, they are still mostly helpless until those fully develop and myst cling to a caretaker adult in the community (blood parents donât necessarily always raise their own children, but as someone who laid eggs they are responsible for children as a caretaker so anyone who didnât want eggs gets left alone).
During their puberty, they will develop adult skin markings, and some can even end up changing sexes (much for the same reason some of them grow gliding membranes, as the result of population and resources balance in their surroundings).
Speakijg of that, there are two categories of Kixeli in their communities: Kel (swimmer) and Arasit (flier).
Arasit are just a rare continuation of their life cycle, since most Kixeli kids end up growing into Kel adults.
Sometimes, though, an Arasit will develop in case the community strongly needs to seek out new territory over long distance (triggered by close proximity to many other Kixeli and a variety of other unknown gactors, like grasshoppers turnkng into locusts.) They canât truly fly, but they can use the powerful ocean winds and even some launching technology to glide very far to scout new resources and other communities).
Arasit are highly celebrated as voyagers, but Kel are also valued as providers for their existing community and even accompany voyages on ships to help their Arasit stay alive.
Some Arasit will cut and cauterize their membranes to make it easier for them to swim to symbolize they are staying in the community, though usually, they just poke small holes in there so they can wear clothes and be sanitary.
Their blood uses the hemocyanin molecule to carry oxygen, making their blood a bright blue when oxygenated and a thin blue/clear when unoxygenated (so you can see the other warmish colored pigments in there when itâs inside them, that yellowish stuff)
Their ancestors dwelled in deeper, cooler water where this blood type was most advantageous, but a global warming period brought them up to warm waters and eventually above the surface to capitalize on resources.
During this process, they developed some ways to improve the moleculeâs lower efficiency in the heat. For one, they kept a small body size so thereâs less to deal with. Another thing is that they get oxygen (albeit a small amount) from all over their body constantly through their skin, also somewhat making up for it.
The main mechanism, though, is their metabolism/temperature. They can quickly adjust their metabolism depending on the oxygen conditions in their surroundings to prevent immediate failure if they donât have access to the right conditions to otherwise cope (this, and along with hemocyaninâs natural ability to handle low oxygen and their skin breathing, means they can tolerate very low oxygen areas that would cause a human to faint, though theyâll typically be pretty out of commission too, and this can have longer lasting effects on their health from the whiplash.)
they use their surroundings for heat when they arenât doing anything too strenuous, and because they arenât really producing much of their own they can tolerate even higher temperatures that would normally put them out of commission (and they actually heavily rely on that heat for ease in a lot of other processes), to do anything that has bigger oxygen needs, they can dip into cooler water/shade for periods of higher activity (but canât stay too cold for too long or else aforementioned other processes will shut down, though it does increase the effectiveness to the point where they can do a whole lot and allows them to swim/navigate cooler areas where their early competitors couldnât return to, it only as long as they got back quickly and warmed up)
they basically swing between these two extremes but tend to stay at a warmish middle-ground, wearing heating pads on part of their body while still letting larger areas cool off, if that makes sense.
Hemocyaninâs other properties donât automatically give them a longer life, in fact theirs is very short compared to other species, but it does make them resistant to cancers (a common threat on their sunny planet) and the spread of diseases in their dense communities
Being cold-blooded wasnât a problem on their mostly tropical planet. It is a considerable problem once they left it, though, hence the heating pads most wear to warm up.
many also live in areas without a large body of water nearby (or an easy way to access said body of water) but still need to stay damp to maintain their music layer and trap oxygen, so many also carry spray bottles or wet rags with them to always stay damp.
Kixeli are highly social (with their name even roughly translating to "belonging together"). they rarely live in groups of less than 5.
They experience severe negative side effects from isolation. Their naturally intense empathy also makes it extremely damaging for them to see other Kixeli injured or dead, sometimes leading to their own death from shock if they were the one that did it (though this has not stopped wars over their scarce resources in the past, typically because that intense sense of kinship was naturally strongest towards those among their own community, and if Their community was suffering then they had to get rid of the source of it by any means. )
This period nearly drove them to extinction, and led to a Global Community movement that argued for intercommunity cooperation and the end of 'us and them thinking'.
Due to their sliminess, Kixeli normally keep clothing to a minimum and overall donât have a need for it beyond temperature control and ornamentation.
They have none of their own social taboos about nakedness, having no external genitalia, but still often clothe themselves to the standards of others due to the pressure/need to be polite from other species.
They also have few class divides within their own communities, with everyone working for the good of the whole, and no sex/gender roles beyond squirter and egg layer since everyone cares for the eggs.
To humans, their language sounds like birdsong, with lots of repetitive noises and subtle shifts in pattern and tone.
Their unique vocalization makes their languages hard to learn and even harder to speak, but they themselves are incredible mimics (only surpassed in some ways by humans because lips and teeth).
The fin on their forehead is similar to eyebrows in communicating emotion or tone. They can see a similar color spectrum to humans and love bright contrasting colors similar to their own skin patterns.
They favor âfast foodâ, or anything that can be carried easily as you swing around in a tree or on a boat.
Payment/restaurants doesnât really exist for them, they just have areas where food brought in by providers is available to the community (or people just eat what they catch and then bring extra to the community.)
They also donât chew their food, though some dishes are meant to be squished to the roof of the mouth with the tongue to experience the flavor
Their clothing is often âreadableâ in that many individuals wear clothing that represents a certain story, event in their life, event in their community, or mythical hero that can be derived from looking at their clothing from the head down.
In the two guys up there, the Arasit is wearing the equivalent of booty shorts cut scantily close to their Hole depicting one version about the founding of the first community (though a simplified one, so itâs actually more like the equivalent of wearing a crop top tee with a little monochrome dog on it or something).
This kind of imagery is common among Arasit, even modern ones, because founding/birth/life are their associations in religious cultures.
The Kel alongside them is wearing a more complex getup meant to show the inciting incident of one of the nomadic communities mythic heroâs journey, when he was cast from the star sea by the wicked Long Arms into the deep sea.
This would be seen as all most goth since this part of the story is seen as eerie and it depicts their underworld along the hem and bracelets.
By wearing clothing associated with a specific figure//story, they can also show gender identity based on whether that figure or hod was male, female, neuther, etc(helping people draw the right conclusions despite the visible evidence of their sex written on all their skin. The clothing and any makeup done on the fin is usually their main reference point for judging how to address someone. )

Typing Quirk Suggestions for a Robot kin
I hope it gives you a wonderful uptime! :3
Mod Vintage (â)

Letter replacements:
Replace "O" with zeroes "0"
Replace "i" or "L" with ones "1"
Replace "one" with "1", including "one" sounds like "any1", or "we 1 = we won" (the past tense of "win")
Replace "zero" with "0"
Frankly, you can just replace all sorts of letters with numbers, such as
R = 12
N = 17
B = 8
A = 4
E = 3
etc.
or maybe make all "A"s and "i"s capitalized, cause "A.I." (artificial intelligence
Prefixes and Suffixes:
Get inspired by programming languages!
Begin your text with "//" like a comment on C++
If you prefer other languages comment tags, you can use "< !--your text-- >"
Or maybe begin it with " int main () { std::cout << "your text"" and end with "return 0; }" like C++ too
Greet people with the classic "Hello world!"
Or greet people with "beep boop!" honestly, I have no idea where this comes from, but it's cute.
Or write down html stuff, like sandwiching your italicized text with "< em> "
The possibilities are endless!

i just had an ancient fandom memory unlocked which i need to share with you all đ many of you are far too young to remember the halcyon days of early-2010s-Tumblr...particularly a pre-Once-ler Tumblr. so there may be a good chunk of you who weren't present for the insanity that was the Portal fandom, and specifically the fixation around Wheatley: one of the earliest Tumblr Sexymen đł so strap in for a little Tumblr Sexyman History...!!!

meet Wheatley, your companion and later-turned-antagonist in the enormously beloved Portal 2. bumbling and never able to shut his digital mouth, Wheatley is a Personality Core: a type of artificial intelligence housed in a metal sphere, developed by Aperture Science. specifically, Wheatley is an Intelligence Dampening Sphere. he was developed to attach to GLaDOS, the main antagonist of the whole series, to distract her with a litany of terrible ideas đ
however, Wheatley doesn't remain amiable for long. in a scheme to dethrone GLaDOS and escape the facility you (or your playable character, Chell) are trapped in, you perform a core transfer, placing Wheatley in GLaDOS's chassis. the sheer power of being in control of the entire facility immediately goes to Wheatley's head, transforming him into an evil, sadistic, Machiavellian figure who forces you to perform test after test for his own satisfaction. also, he has a British (Bristolian!) accent. you can see the recipe for obsession, right? đđ
however, this was a time wherein fandom tastes were a little different. while today we are delighted to obsess over characters with unusual designs (and particularly thirst over characters of the robot/android/objectum/etc. variety), 'White Twink Humanisation' was rife in the early 2010s. if you've seen humanisations of Bill Cipher and ideas of what Cecil Palmer looked like, as well as the site's preoccupation with pale gangly weirdos (David Tennant and Matt Smith's Tenth and Eleventh Doctors come to mind), you can imagine that the urge to humanise Wheatley was huge.
enter Stephen Merchant: Wheatley's actual voice actor, who just so happens to be a six-foot-seven, gangly, nerdy British guy. fanfic author Wafflestories wrote an extremely well-known Wheatley redemption fic called Blue Sky, wherein Wheatley is able to control a hard-light human version of himself...who bears a striking resemblance to the real-life Stephen Merchant. the Portal fandom unanimously decided that human Wheatley looked just like Stephen Merchantâa design trend we still see today!! đł here's where the cursed forbidden memory comes in. we were so goddamn obsessed with Wheatley. we wanted to see him as a human so badly. so we went through Stephen Merchant's filmography, and...
this is Tracy, Stephen's character in Tooth Fairy (2010), starring Dwayne the Rock Johnson đ Tracy is a wingless caseworker fairy assigned to the Rock's character Derek, an ordinary man who becomes a tooth fairy against his will. Tracy is...unhinged. bizarrely intense. a delightfully weird and memorable character in a movie that can only be described as a fever dream, played with idiosyncrasies only Stephen Merchant is capable of. i recently found out it was directed by Michael Lembeck, who directed both The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3 đđ yes. for some ungodly reason, plenty of us Wheatley simps decided that not only was Stephen Merchant the faceclaim for human Wheatley...but this specific iteration of Stephen Merchant as a wingless tooth fairy. Tracy had his own little dedicated fanbase complete with ask blogs and fanart and extended Tooth Fairy lore. of course Tracy's popularity was helped along by his dapper dress sense and his...interesting personality. there was even a joking trend called 'Tracy Goes Insane 2011', wherein fans made a significantly more yandere, knifemurder-esque version of Tracy after he finally snapped. truly incredible đ so there you have it. we all started simping for a silly little metal ball who got drunk on testing juice and went full Joker mode, decided that he needed to resemble his tall, handsome voice actor, and consequently became obsessed with his stint as a deranged tooth fairy. and so it shall be written. thanks for reading đđ
#the way this forbidden Wheatley knowledge was locked up behind a Fort Knox constructed in my own brain. oh my GODDD đđđđđ#we. were. down. so. bad. you. have. no. idea. AND I'LL BET THAT WE STILL ARE#i'm sure most folks know the bulk of humanised Wheatleys are based on Stephen Merchant#but the love of Tracy some arcane lore. feels like a relic of the way early Tumblr fandom functioned#i'm going to rewatch Tooth Fairy soon. sorry for the person i'll become again#but the psychic damage you suffered on this site between 2010-2015 is incomparable to anywhere else#wheatley#portal#portal 2#stephen merchant#tracy#tracy the caseworker#tooth fairy#tooth fairy 2010#tumblr sexyman#tumblr sexyman history#starleskatalks#long post

đ ACNH Space Enthusiast Set đ˝
52 items | Sims 4, base game compatible - As usual, all original swatches included with lots of extras added by me! âşď¸đ Not all items are from ACNH. Please keep in mind some of the items are high poly if you have an older computer. The mooncake plate item is going to be shared publicly on my Tumblr today, since it is a cultural related item for a soon upcoming holiday.
Type âACNH Spaceâ into the search query in build mode to find  quickly. You can always find items like this, just begin typing  the title and it will appear.
Always suggested: bb.objects ON, it makes placing items much easier. For further placement tweaking, check out the TOOL mod.
Use the scale up & down feature on your keyboard to make the items larger or smaller to your liking. If you have a non-US keyboard, it may be different keys depending on which alphabet it uses. (The launch pad item is made smaller like the models, so it can be upscaled to fit. Other items like the UFO are made larger and can be down scaled the same way.)
I hope you enjoy!

This is it. Generative AI, as a commercial tech phenomenon, has reached its apex. The hype is evaporating. The tech is too unreliable, too often. The vibes are terrible. The air is escaping from the bubble. To me, the question is more about whether the air will rush out all at once, sending the tech sector careening downward like a balloon that someone blew up, failed to tie off properly, and let goâor more slowly, shrinking down to size in gradual sputters, while emitting embarrassing fart sounds, like a balloon being deliberately pinched around the opening by a smirking teenager. But come on. The jig is up. The technology that was at this time last year being somberly touted as so powerful that it posed an existential threat to humanity is now worrying investors because it is apparently incapable of generating passable marketing emails reliably enough. Weâve had at least a year of companies shelling out for business-grade generative AI, and the resultsâpainted as shinily as possible from a banking and investment sector that would love nothing more than a new technology that can automate office work and creative laborâare one big âmeh.â As a Bloomberg story put it last week, âBig Tech Fails to Convince Wall Street That AI Is Paying Off.â From the piece: Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc. had one job heading into this earnings season: show that the billions of dollars theyâve each sunk into the infrastructure propelling the artificial intelligence boom is translating into real sales. In the eyes of Wall Street, they disappointed. Shares in Google owner Alphabet have fallen 7.4% since it reported last week. Microsoftâs stock price has declined in the three days since the companyâs own results. Shares of Amazon â the latest to drop its earnings on Thursday â plunged by the most since October 2022 on Friday. Silicon Valley hailed 2024 as the year that companies would begin to deploy generative AI, the type of technology that can create text, images and videos from simple prompts. This mass adoption is meant to finally bring about meaningful profits from the likes of Googleâs Gemini and Microsoftâs Copilot. The fact that those returns have yet to meaningfully materialize is stoking broader concerns about how worthwhile AI will really prove to be. Meanwhile, Nvidia, the AI chipmaker that soared to an absurd $3 trillion valuation, is losing that value with every passing dayâ26% over the last month or so, and some analysts believe thatâs just the beginning. These declines are the result of less-than-stellar early results from corporations whoâve embraced enterprise-tier generative AI, the distinct lack of killer commercial products 18 months into the AI boom, and scathing financial analyses from Goldman Sachs, Sequoia Capital, and Elliot Management, each of whom concluded that there was âtoo much spend, too little benefitâ from generative AI, in the words of Goldman, and that it was âoverhypedâ and a âbubbleâ per Elliot. As CNN put it in its report on growing fears of an AI bubble, Some investors had even anticipated that this would be the quarter that tech giants would start to signal that they were backing off their AI infrastructure investments since âAI is not delivering the returns that they were expecting,â D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria told CNN. The opposite happened â Google, Microsoft and Meta all signaled that they plan to spend even more as they lay the groundwork for what they hope is an AI future. This can, perhaps, explain some of the investor revolt. The tech giants have responded to mounting concerns by doubling, even tripling down, and planning on spending tens of billions of dollars on researching, developing, and deploying generative AI for the foreseeable future. All this as high profile clients are canceling their contracts. As surveys show that overwhelming majorities of workers say generative AI makes them less productive. As MIT economist and automation scholar Daron Acemoglu warns, âDonât believe the AI hype.â

Jasper's Guide To Energyforms
The various categories that any given energyform may fall under.
There are innumerable names and ideas for energyforms. This will merely go over my own categorizations and definitions of them. These are not universal, but theyâll hopefully provide a good starting point for your own understanding! Ultimately, this is all my own understanding, and all âsourcesâ are meant to encourage you to look around and explore this subject on your own!
What Is An Energyform?
An energyform is any entity made of energy, often your own. I use the term as the catch-all category for servitors, thoughtforms, and so forth, because having a catch-all term for them is very helpful to me. The term is derived from âmanaformâ from Magic: The Gathering, which is a being that is made of pure mana. [1] I altered it to energyform for my own practice.
Types Of Energyforms
Egregore: An energyform created by an entire group of magical practitioners, typically more than 4. Three or fewer magical practitioners working together on an energyform will still produce a servitor. An example of an egregore is GOFLOWOLFOG. [2]
Pop Culture Entities: One theory for the validity of pop culture magic is that the pop culture entities â including deities, heroes, spirits, and more â are egregores. This is not a universal approach to pop culture magic.
Godform: The image or incarnation of a god. [3] Not quite an energyform of its own, but an energyform can be made to be a godform or to channel parts of a godâs power. [4] A godform energyform can fall under any other category.
Living Spell: An extremely basic energyform that is only a step above the basic spell by way of being given a form to deliver the said spell to its intended target. These typically fade away or are automatically destroyed once they accomplish their goal.
Servitor: A servitor is the âdefaultâ type of energyform, lacking in âsentienceâ and being focused on one or a handful of very specific goals. Extremely simple to make and often look more like âpeopleâ (humans, animals, demons/angels, et cetera) than a living spell. Most servitors are best described as magical computer programs.
Viral Servitors [5]: Servitors that have automatic ways built into them to copy themselves to continue doing their job so that there are many of them. One example of a viral servitor is Fotamecus. [6]
Sigil: Most sigils are symbols created for particular purposes and are more often connected to energyforms rather than being energyforms in and of themselves. However, certain animist approaches [7] may see sigils as spirits in and of themselves!
Chao-Mines [5], Energy Store-House Entities [4], Linking Sigils [8]: Functionally the same thing, these are particular sigils or energy points that you can use to draw energy from a place, another energyform, or a thing.
Hypersigils: The term was coined by Grant Morrison and elaborated upon by Aidan Wachter. It is a work of art, such as a novel, journal, or piece of art, that functions as an elaborate sigil. [9]
Sigil Shoals: A collection of sigils that are led by one that is guaranteed to happen, thus forcing the rest of them to come true as well. [10]
Thoughtform: A thoughtform is a âsentientâ energyform, though the definition of âsentientâ is up for debate. Typically, thoughtforms can think for themselves and do not need to be specifically directed around obstacles keeping them from accomplishing their goals. Thoughtforms are often compared to the type of âartificial intelligenceâ found in science fiction.

Steel Storm and Care.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Gun park x R.femele.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
It was late at night in Seoul. The rain fell like blades of the sky, punishing the reinforced windows of the luxurious apartment where Gun lived with you, Y/N. The city outside seemed to be asleep - but you knew Gun was still out there, probably dealing with another mission for Charles Choi... or testing some new gang prodigy.
You sighed, typing the last codes of a tracking system you had been developing - something that discreetly served to monitor Gun's movements. Not that he knew. If he found out, he would say that you were "getting soft" or that "he would never need protection". But you knew better. I met every scar on his body. Every silence. Every distant look after a fight.
Hours later, around 3 a.m., the door opened with a dry click. Gun entered the apartment, his steady steps, the usual expression: neutral, cold. But you immediately noticed the way he held the right side of the abdomen. He was injured.
- "Again, Jong Geon?" - you murmured, approaching. He looked at you side ways.
- "It's nothing. Just a knife. I don't need a sermon."
- "There won't be a sermon. There will be disinfectant and stitches."
You gently pushed him to the black leather sofa. Even reluctantly, he obeyed. I knew that, despite the sharp mouth, you were the one who always kept it whole.
While sewing the cut, you talked non-stop - as you always did when he came back bruised. He commented on the artificial intelligence project he was developing, on the ridiculous bug you fixed on the HNH network and, finally, on the new combat suit he designed especially for him. Flexible, resistant, bulletproof and even with hidden thermal sensors. Gun listened to her in silence. I always listened. Even when I pretended I didn't care.
- "You talk too much." - he said, with a slight eyebrow raise.
- "And you get too much. We're tied."
For a moment, he almost smiled. But instead, he took his hand to her face, touching her cheek with his cold and calloused fingers.
- "You're the only weakness I accept."
That was the way he said "thank you". You knew that. And when he finished the bandages, he leaned his head on his shoulder.
- "You can be a monster out there, Gun. But here... you're mine."
He didn't answer. But it stayed there. Quiet. Firm. Allowing touch, intimacy, heat.
The next morning, you woke up alone in bed. He was about to complain when he found a note on the pillow, written with Gun's serious handwriting:
"If I don't come back by 11pm, wear the new outfit and invade the HNH headquarters. You know what to do. I trust you more than anyone else. - G."
You smiled.
If he was the blade, you were the shield. And together... no one would bring them down.

Alright everyone, this is what I gathered so far from your requests and my drafts. Some are done, some are planned. Keep in mind these are all short snippets or doodles, as I sadly don't have the time for anything more complex. :')
Someone asked me how writing requests work: it can be anything yandere/monster/Halloween related, whether it's smut, fluff, horror, or something silly. If you want, you can use my own prompts for reference. Pick a prompt and a character, if you find this to be the easier way of doing it.
Other examples of requests I've gotten so far: "I'd love to see more of X character"; "How about this Halloween scenario?"; "Have you ever considered x type of monster?"; "Here's a fun fact, do whatever you wish with this information".
The requests are, of course, still open. I just wanted to give you a quick preview! <3
