She helped me break out of my shell and try new things (some of them I’m sure our parents did not or would not have…

Escribí esto una noche antes de mi cumpleaños y quisiera compartirlo…

Estoy a unos minutos de cumplir 33 años. Me debería sentir feliz y supongo que lo estoy. Pero no puedo evitar pensar en cómo sería mi vida si hubiera tomado otras decisiones.

¿Me arrepiento? Sí un poco, mentiría si dijera que ya he aceptado todos mis errores o malas decisiones. Pero también sé que todo eso me ha hecho convertirme en la persona que hoy soy o que estoy descubriendo que soy.

Hay días que todo parece ser un sueño, las cosas fluyen y yo fluyo con ellas. Luego hay otros días retadores que me hacen cuestionar mi absurda existencia y mi propósito aquí.

Pero si hay algo en mi, que en estos años de vida he aprendido, es que soy una persona perseverante a pesar de las dificultades. Me aferro a creer que puedo aunque sienta que no y muchas veces he salido adelante así.

Uno no elige ser fuerte, simplemente no te queda de otra en los momentos más duros y si pudiera, elegiría un camino con menos tropiezos y curvas. Pero estoy ya en este sinuoso y pedregoso camino, así que debo seguir.

No tengo mucho que decir que ya algunos de ustedes no sepan. Tal vez hable con profundidad en otra ocasión de esas heridas que me enseñaron tanto. Pero hoy quiero agradecer estar aquí. Agradezco que aunque casi 90% del tiempo quiero dejar de existir, el otro 10% es un recordatorio de que sí vale la pena estar en este universo, en esta precisa época, en esta ciudad incluso. Agradezco tener gente bonita que de verdad se preocupa por mi, que me quiere y me ha perdonado por haberles sacado de mi vida. Agradezco estar cerca de nuevas amistades que conectan con mi forma de ser y de ver la vida. Agradezco por mi familia que a pesar de haberles dado la espalda, siguen conmigo en las buenas y en las malas. Agradezco también a las personas que me han dado grandes lecciones, a la mala quizá, pero que me han ayudado a conectar con mis miedos, mis inseguridades y mis heridas.

Agradezco tener dos hijos que me quieren tanto y que se han convertido en una bonita compañía. Agradezco ser yo, porque quizá no estoy donde quiero, ni tengo cosas materiales que pueda llamar mías (salvo este celular) pero tengo mi libertad y creo que eso es lo más valioso que puede tener uno además de la salud. Libertad para ser uno mismo, para amar, para crear, para descubrir y para dejar ir también…

Así que sin más preámbulos, le doy la bienvenida a los 33 parafraseando una gran canción que hace 10 años usé también para festejar mi cumpleaños: “nobody likes you when you’re 33”.
