There are many web hosting companies to choose from if you're taking the plunge into making your own website with a comic content management system (CMS) like ComicControl or Grawlix, a Wordpress comic theme like Toocheke or ComicPress, or a HTML template to cut/paste code like Rarebit. While these solutions are generally free, finding a home for them is... generally not. It can be hard to choose what's best for your webcomic AND your budget!

We took a look at a few of the top hosting services used by webcomics creators using webcomic CMSes, and we put out a poll to ask your feedback about your hosts!

Questions:

💻 I can get a free account with Wix/Squarespace/Carrd, could I just use those for my comic? - Web hosts like this may have gallery functions that could be adapted to display a series of pages, but they are very basic and not intended for webcomics.

📚 Wait, I host on Webtoon, Tapas, Comic Fury, or some other comic website, why are they not here? - Those are comic platforms! We'll get into those in a future post!

🕵️‍♀️Why does it say "shared hosting"? Who am I sharing with? - "Shared hosting" refers to sharing the server space with other customers. They will not have access to your files or anything, so it is perfectly fine to use for most comic CMSes. You may experience slowing if there is too much activity on a server, so if you're planning to host large files or more than 10 comics, you may want to upgrade to a more robust plan in the future.

Things to consider for any host:

💸 Introductory/promotional pricing - Many hosting companies offer free or inexpensive deals to get you in the door, and then raise the cost for these features after the first year or when you renew. The prices in this post are the base prices that you can expect to pay after the promotional prices end, but may get outdated, so you are encouraged to do your own research as well.

💻 Wordpress hosting - Many of the companies below will have a separate offering for Wordpress-optimized hosting that will keep you updated with the latest Wordpress releases. This is usually not necessary for webcomic creators, and can be the source of many site-breaking headaches when comic plugins have not caught up to the latest Wordpress releases.

Any basic hosting plan on this list will be fine with Wordpress, but expect to stop or revert Wordpress versions if you go with this as your CMS.

🤝 You don't have to go it alone - While free hosts may be more limited, paid hosting on a web server will generally allow you to create different subdomains, or attach additional purchased domains to any folders you make. If you have other comic-making friends you know and trust, you can share your server space and split the cost!

These Paperbacks from 1981-1992 they're worn and the paper is yellowing but none of the pages are sliding free of the glue and the spine isn't falling apart because it's creased. All have seen much love and reading

I know I'm gonna sound old here but why is everything getting worse and more expensive 😭 most of these sold for $5.99-$7.99 brand new now a US paperback is $17.99 and printed on tissue with erasable ink bound together with tape, spit, and hope, that is literally disintegrating in my hands on day 6 of ownership

I’ve been really been a fan of Swiss cheese, however after eating some of these previous cheeses my appreciation for it has gone up. I’m quite fond of the rubbery aspect of this, almost feels like I’m chewing on a dog toy. The flavor makes itself known but I could likely eat the entire wedge without getting irritated. And the taste it’s most impactful quality isn’t my favorite isn’t awful. 6.9/10

Grilled cheese: this is good, nothing really special about it. The cheese is a little rubbery but the flavor is that of a standard grilled cheese. 6/10

💙‼️RESIDENT EVIL: REVELATIONS.

For starters,, As someone who has only played the OG RE4 and has a very brief understanding of RE lore,, THIS GAME WAS PEAK!! I fucking LOVED the story,, The idea of switching between story lines was so cool, in both games! I loved playing as Jill and Parker, and I loved playing as Chris and Jessica. I ALSO LOVED THE BITS WITH KEITH AND QUINT!! I liked their relationship,, the friendly banter was a nice break from the tough shit on the Queen Zinobia... (I say as if I didn't curse the game out during the last bit with them bc I fucking HATE the hunters/Farfarello's sm I hope they FUCKING EXPLO--💥💥💥) I liked how well Jill and Parker got along too! It was lowk sweet,, My divas :33

JESSICA THO. HATEHATEHATEHATE!!!!!!! I liked her b4 she shot my divas. (Raymond and Parker..) Chris was right too not trust her right away... FUCK THAT BITCH!!!! I really wish she got more screen time,, she seemed so cool.. HER ZOMBIE FORM THO??? WOWZA!! SHE MADE ME SO MAD.... But she looked BADASS!! I felt so bad for her while listening to her lines when she became an Ooze.. Like when she starts screaming about being in pain and shit.. It made me lowk feel bad about shooting her.....

A few B.O.W's I didn't like fighting were the Scagdead/Communications officer guy, Farfarello/Hunters, and the Malacoda Final Boss.... I hope you guys know that I had to look up how to beat the first Boss,, Aka the Communications officer.. HE WAS A BITCH OKAY!! I seen people say he was a obnoxiously difficult boss for being a FIRST boss... and they right... I died like 10 times before I figured out how to kill his ass💔💔💔

BUT OVERALL!! It was a really good game!! I beat it in like,, 6 and a half hours :3 I wasn't a big fan of the Raid mode.. but I think that's bc I was used to how the second games Raid mode looked.. since I used my Dads Xbox account to play the Demo + Raid Mode :3

I LOVED THIS ONE SO MUCH MORE!!!! GOD I LOVED IT!! As someone who got stuck only playing episode one at first,, I LOVE YOU NINTENDO FOR HAVING THE FULL GAME FOR ONLY 7.99!!!! Best money spent EVER!! Also the best 7 hrs and 23 mins spent :3

I liked how this game also did the switch up in story lines, It was a bit difficult to follow with the time shifts, but I liked it! I liked the Bits with Claire and Moira, and the Bits with Barry and Natalia! Claire and Moira give me sister vibes.. Which I liked, same with Moira and Natalia! The bond between Barry and Moira healing was such a sweet moment, like when Moira calls Barry 'dad' during the Final boss bit with Alex,, that was so sweet. I WAS SO GLAD THEY GOT NATALIA OFF THE ISLAND AND TOOK HER HOME!! That post credits bit tho... MY BABY!!! ALEX WESKER FUCK YOU!! LEAVE MY DAUGHTER ALONE!!!! Her story was so sad,, My baby didn't deserve all that Bullshit :((

There was a lot of Plot twists I didn't see coming,, Like Neil working with Wesker?? I WAS LIKE HUH??? YOU STUPID BITCH!!! Neil's boss form tho?? That was cool.. a bit difficult to fight,, but really fucking cool... Same with Pedro's Boss form! I liked everyone's Boss forms in this game.. SIGH even Alex.. I GUESS... (fr though hers was super fucking cool.. weird spine lady..🎀)

underrated BUT!! I really liked Gina.. Even though she barely got a minute of screen time.. I liked that She and Rachel had the same last name.. so Silly :3 I think I just like characters with barely any screen time...... I also really liked how both of them got skins in Raid Mode! I use them both as my Mains.. Plus Hunk and Lady Hunk :3

Like I did for the first game,, B.O.W's I did NOT fw.... any returning bitches I didn't like,, the FUCKING Revenants, Those BITCHASS glasps, the Vulcan Blubber, and FUCKASS ALEX WESKER AND HER BITCHASS!!! I did fw IronHead tho...😻

OVERALL!! The story was good!! I enjoyed it a lot! It was difficult at parts and I almost gave up a few times.. but I locked in and beat it! I liked how everything played out, especially with all the plot twists!! :3

Book Review: Ancestral Grimoire

Can anyone have magick in their blood? Or is ancestral witchery open to a select few?

Ancestral Grimoire by Nancy Hendrickson opens the door for a more inclusive initiation into working with magick in your family tree -whether that be nurturing those existing roots or planting the seeds yourself. 

The book starts out with an introduction to ancestral magick, and is really a workbook for building a corresponding grimoire. 

You’ll get to know some nifty tips on how to use tarot for communicating with your ancestors, as well as numerous exercises you can use to truly integrate tarot cards into your ancestral practice. 

Chapters of the book outline months of the year, with their own set of exercises and bits of info, making Ancestral Grimoire a true workbook - by the time you’re done you’ll have an entire Book of Shadows with something interesting to look forward to every month. 

My favorite parts: 

I LOVED connecting with my favorite tarot deck in a different way. I never thought I’d use my cards specifically for ancestral communication, but this book really changed the way I read, and I’ve been reading for more than two decades. 

There were super cool exercises on how to make your own oracle cards and other tools, and I truly enjoyed that process. It helped me break out of a crafting rut too! 

I was able to add so much more to my personal Book of Shadows than I ever had, pages and pages of exercises, tool kits and more that really supplement what I’ve been building on for years. I never thought of my own grimoire as a living document but this book really challenged the way I look at my craft and helped me to expand my horizons. 

I got super creative with building out my new grimoire, incorporating scrapbooking techniques and embellishments like stickers and washi tape. 

A few pain points:

I really attempted to do a full year of Ancestral work like the book recommends, since I bought the book in February, I did January and Feb.’s exercises at once, and moved on from there. I was definitely burned out by May, but that’s because I tried to go above and beyond on each chapter (literal scrapbooking!) I’ve been getting back into it with a simpler approach and it's been a breath of fresh air. 

It's a short book, but it’s $15.99, which could be out of price range for some budget-conscious witches. 

I’d love to see a companion notebook or workbook come out for this one, considering there are so many activities to do! 

The author, Nancy Hendrickson, also has another book called Ancestral Tarot. I’m thinking about picking this one up because of how impressive Hendrickson’s in-depth approach to divination was in Ancestral Grimoire.

Important Life Side quests!

(No particular order)

1. Seizure/Epilepsy Training! (For free) By the Epilepsy Foundation it is an online module based program takes about 60-75 minutes but you will have three weeks to complete it. It will give you a Certification at the end after completing. Why this? It's important to know and quite interesting! Being seizure/epilepsy training certified also looks great on resumes and applications!

2. Food handlers card. Needed for any restaurant or fast food related job, and also generally helpful for at home cooking practices. Found efoodcard.com with a ~$7.99 fee. Online module based course regarding food safety practices. Is required for food related jobs and looks good on resumes and applications. When the course is complete you will have the certificate and 2 food handlers cards (one for you one for employer copies).

3. (If in the US) Memorize your social security number. It's asked for on almost all the important documents, often including hiring packets from employers.

4. Build your resume. This is more complex but if y'all are interested I can post separately an example! Important notes, keep it limited to one page, use only Harvard approved adjectives

5. Build a basic cover letter. Same as number four, I can post separately an example if it's wanted. But it is so much easier to modify a CV than it is to make a new one from scratch.

6. CPR/AED/First Aid training! Definitely important to know no matter your situation. But it is required for various jobs, and looks good on resumes and applications! Found online at RedCross.org with a ~$37.99 fee, you will have a certificate and an expanded knowledge bank at the end of the course!

(edited addition!) 7. Getting a passport! Never know where you will find yourself in the future and in the US these take up to 6 months to process and get back to you.
