Undertale NPCs tournament Round 2 summary

Round 2 finished up a while ago! Let's catch up on what happened...

The new characters, understandably, were generally more popular than the round 1 NPCs. There are also maybe 1 or 2 outliers who need to be wrangled in, lest they dominate forever. The man says two words the whole game... Let's check out some points of interest:

The most popular character of Round 2 was:

Onionsan!

Onionsan (60.9%) won against Inn Kid (39.1%) with 1556 votes. I have to assume it's because they are an unavoidable encounter. Everyone has interacted with them so many people know them. Maybe. I genuinely don't get it. This was also the { Most Popular Match }, with 2555 total votes!

The least popular character of Round 2 was:

Clam Guy!

Clam Guy (4.2%) lost to River Person (95.8%) with only 51 votes! I think he had the opposite problem as Onionsan, you have to backtrack to a room you have no reason to backtrack through to see him. Also he only talks about water. Not very interesting! This was also the { Most Agreed Upon Match } ! Probably because he was paired with River Person.

The least popular match of Round 1 was:

Fourth Froggit (66.5%) vs Scarf Lady (33.5%)

This match ended up having 653 votes, and was match 26/32. The amount of votes this had is way larger than the first round! I'm glad :) Both of these characters are kinda nothing but I was surprised there wasn't a bigger following for the wall Froggits.

"Like Chinese historians, Muslim writers in general depict the ‘Turks’ as possessing East Asian physiognomy. For instance, Sharaf al-Zamān Tāhir Marvazī describes them as being ‘short, with small eyes, nostrils, and mouths’ (1942: 53–4, 156). Similarly, Tabarī (d. 923) depicts the ‘Turks’ as being ‘full-faced with small eyes’ (1987: 21). In his Qābūs-nāma, the eleventh-century Ziyarid ruler Kai Kā'ūs also describes the ‘Turks’ as possessing ‘a large head (sar-i buzurg), a broad face (rūy-i pahn), narrow eyes (chashmhā-i tang), and a flat nose (bīnī-i pakhch), and unpleasing lips and teeth (lab va dandān na nīkū)’ (Kai Kā'ūs ibn Iskandar 1951a: 103; 1951b: 64). The Arab historian and geographer al-Mas'ūdī (896–956) writes that the Oghuz Turks residing in Yengi-kent, a town near the mouth of the Syr Darya, ‘are distinguished from other Turks by their valour, their slanted eyes, and the smallness of their stature’ (wa hum ashadd al-Turk ba’san wa aqsaruhum wa asgharuhum a‘yunan wa fī al-Turk man huwa aqsar min hā’ulā’) (al-Mas'ūdī 1962–: Vol. 1, 212). However, Muslim writers later differentiated the Oghuz Turks from other Turks in terms of physiognomy. Rashīd al-Dīn writes that ‘because of the climate their features gradually changed into those of Tajiks. Since they were not Tajiks, the Tajik peoples called them turkmān, i.e. Turk-like (Turk-mānand)’ (Rashīd al-Dīn Fażlallāh Hamadānī 1988: Vol. 1, 35–6; Rashiduddin Fazlullah 1998–99:  Vol. 1, 31). Hāfiz Tanīsh Mīr Muhammad Bukhārī (d. c. 1549) also relates that after the Oghuz came to Transoxiana and Iran, their ‘Turkic face did not re-main as it was’ (1983: fol. 17a (text), Vol. 1, 61 (trans.)). Abū al-Ghāzī Bahadur Khan similarly writes that ‘their chin started to become narrow, their eyes started to become large, their faces started to become small, and their noses started to become big’ after five or six generations (Abu-l-Gazi 1958: 42 (text), 57 (trans.); Ebülgazî Bahadir Han 1975: 57–8). As a matter of fact, the mixed nature of the Ottomans, belonging to the Oghuz Turkic group, is noted by the Ottoman historian Mustafā Ālī (1541–1600). In his Künhü'l-ahbār, he remarks that the Ottoman elites of the sixteenth century were of mostly of non-Turkic origin: ‘Most of the inhabitants of  Rum are of confused ethnic origin. Among its notables there are few whose lineage does not go back to a convert to Islam …’ (Ekser-i sükkān-i vilāyet-i Rūm meclis-i muhtelit ul-mefhūm olub ā‘yānında az kimsene bulunur ki nesebi bir müslüm-i cedīde muntehī olmaya) (Fleischer 1986: 254; Mustafā Ālī, Künhü'l-ahbār 1860–68: Vol. 1, 16)."

Between 2001 and 2007, US aid to Georgia, including security assistance, totaled over $945 million, averaging $135 million per year, up from $96 million per year between 1992 and 2000.

The US provided military training to Georgian forces through the Train and Equip Program and Sustainment and Stability Operations Program until 2007, sending advisers to build up Georgia's military.

In March 2008, Saakashvili claimed Georgia's Armed Forces had grown to 33,000 professional service members and 100,000 reservists.

In April 2008, during the NATO Bucharest Summit, the US supported Georgia's NATO aspirations despite the substantial obstacle of Georgia's territorial dispute with South Ossetia.

In July 2008, the US held the Immediate Response 2008 joint exercise with Georgian forces, involving over 1,000 American troops.

Responding to reports that Russian forces captured US-made Humvees, US National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe demanded the return of any US military equipment seized during the August 2008 operation.

The Russo-Georgian war resulted in over 1,000 deaths, including 72 Russian soldiers. On August 26, 2008, Russia recognized South Ossetia's independence.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No! I don't think my fics are well known enough to get to those parts of the fandom.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, usually F/M but occasionally M/M. I don't think I've written F/F before.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don't. I prefer to stay within the fandom.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of. Like the answer for #8, I don't think I'm popular enough to have a fic stolen.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

A long time ago with an IRL friend but that was when we were teenagers and that fic doesn't exist on the internet anymore.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Geez, Femshep/Thane Krios. I will always have a soft spot for them.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

There are sooo many but I have a fShepley fic that I would love to write where Shepard has a control chip and she takes orders from the Illusive Man while also getting indoctrinated. It's in a rough state and not sure I'll ever finish it, but it's too good of an idea to completely abandon.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Banter, Dialogue, Emotion. I enjoy all of these things.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Setting the scene. Description can allude me at times.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I won't do it unless it's a fictional language and I feel comfortable enough to use it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I honestly can't remember? Maybe Harry Potter, Maybe Buffy? But I do remember my fic writing became more of thing after I played Dragon Age.

The Thunder Hashira

Chapter 8

Warning: angst

Third Pov

Jigoro sighed as he looked down at the photo in his hand. It was the photo that he and Himiko took on her birthday. It had been two weeks since she left for final selection. She should've been back by now. Which means...

Jigoro sighed again and put down the photograph and picked up a pen. A week after she left he started going down to the town to see if she had passed through. Nothing. Eventually he gave up and accepted that she wasn't going to come back. He still remembered the looks on her friend's faces when he told them. Jun was shocked and frozen and Mai had immediately started sobbing.

Personally he knew the risks of sending her off to final selection. He thought he was prepared for this. But he wasn't. He had grown so attached, so close with her. Now the halls of his home seemed so empty, so lifeless. He should have held her back longer, waited till the next final selection, trained her more... Jigoro shook his head to get rid of those thoughts. It's too late, there was nothing he could do now.

He clenched his hand on the pen in his hand and took a deep breath. Now it was time to let her family know...

Kie watched from the window as her kids played outside. It had been about two years since her eldest child left home and she was very worried. Luckily she kept her promise and had written to them daily. They would write back when they could as well. She was worried though, in her last letter she had said she was going to be going off to take final selection, whatever that was, and she hadn't sent any letters afterward. That was two weeks ago.

Kie sighed and looked down at Hanako, she had just been born about a month ago. She had just gone down for a nap at last. She was about to walk away when she heard flapping and looked toward the window to see a crow carrying a letter. She was filled with relief at the sight of the crow and immediately took the letter, thanking and giving the crow a chin scratch before he took off again.

Her relief was immediately squashed when she saw the unfamiliar writing inside. As she read the letter she cried out and covered her mouth, tears in her eyes. She stood there frozen for a moment. Then slowly she walked to the room her husband, Tanjuro, was in.

"What's wrong?" He asked worried when he saw the look on his wife's face.

"A letter.. a letter came in."

"Is it Himiko?" He asked with a furrowed brow. She shook her head and walked over sitting next to the man. She looked outside to make sure the kids were out of earshot then looked back to him.

"From her master... she's....shes dead." His eyes went wide at her words and he froze. Kie had a tight grip on the letter and let the tears fall freely.

"...read it to me." Kie immediately wiped her tears and looked back down to the letter.

"To the Kamado family,

My name is Jigoro Kuwajima. I'm Himiko's thunder breathing master and the one who has been caring for her for the past two years. I know you must be very confused and worried as to why I am writing to you and not your daughter so I won't waste your time. Two weeks ago I sent her off to final selection, the final stage to becoming a demon slayer and she never returned. Final selection only lasts a week and she has not returned from it. This can only mean that she had died on the mountain. I am very sorry to inform you of this, I send you my condolences and wish you well. The town near my home will be holding a funeral for her, she was very close with many people here, and you are free to attend. Good day."

Kie's voice cracked up as she spoke and she immediately fell back into sobs when she finished. Tanjuro clenched his hands and looked down at his lap. He didn't know what to think. All either of them could think was that they should have fought harder to stop her from going.

Himiko sighed as she sat in the sun. Her leg had long gone numb, and all she could do was keep moving during the night. She had lost the hand demon a while ago but obviously couldn't defeat him. She was also lost now, she wasn't able to keep track of where she was and as a result didn't know what direction the exit was in. She looked down at her leg. The bleeding had stopped a while ago too, which was good, and the only thing that made it so that she could walk was the makeshift cast.

She looked around and sighed. Luckily her and Sabito had killed the rest of the demons in the forest so it was just the hand demon... for now. But that also means she needed to stay alert, she was being hunted and he didn't seem to want to give up any time soon.

Himiko fell back against the grass and looked at the sky, the only safe time to rest now was during the day and if she was going to be constantly hunted she'd need her energy. So a small nap wouldn't hurt... right?
