I drove 2.5 hours to Holmdel, New Jersey for this show bc Styx hates Pennsylvania this year ig and this is the highest amount of money i have ever paid for a concert ticket and it was FUCKING. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

After John went offstage they UNVEILED LARRY'S PIANO AND I GENUINELY WASNT EXPECTING THEM TO BE NEXT SO I SCREAMED SFNGOESIRNGER IT WAS A LARRY JUMPSCARE

I should also mention there IS NO PIT at this place and the stage is LOW to the ground like 4-5 feet off the ground and the stage is SMALL too ?????? So i was like AAAAAAAAAA??? I'M GONNA BE SO CLOSE TO THEM (I was 3rd row) like I was literally 10 feet from the stage maybe a little less even

I did text Larry earlier in the day, saying like "see you tonight! I'll be the one in the Gowan shirt!" like I did last year in Allentown, but I checked really close to them coming on and he hadn't seen it

and just seemed to genuinely happy to see me and was motioning at me and nodding like he FUCKING REMEMBERED ME, GUYS

immediately after that I got Terry's attention and pointed at my shirt and his face went from joy to surprise and he mouthed "oh, wow !"

sometime before the first song was over, Tommy was standing behind JY and we made eye contact and he gave me a :O ! face he's so precious

tommy's so fucking beautiful i got to see him up close for the first time and gawwwwdddddddd pleaseeee i could see every fucking curl and detail of his face and his tattoo and hhhghghghrhhghhhhh i wanted to cry he's just so breathtaking

When Larry went into Lady, Terry fucking pointed at me and mouthed "LADAYYY" he wants me so fucking bad you guys

Larry did not sing Lady to me this time but Terry did so that's an even bigger win

during Lady when Larry does his "take me gently into your arms" and hugs JY, when Larry was coming over to him to do that, JY kept scooching away and i fucking died nfgonsfoginsg but JY leaned into the hug they're so cute i love these old men

I saw the notification and I literally started screaming at the top of my lungs and jumping up and down because HE GOT OFFSTAGE LIKE 40 MINUTES AGO AND HE'S TEXTING ME ALREADY ????????

he said "it was so nice to see you (and that shirt) right from the start of the show!" and when I tell you I started crying I was SOBBING bc the last thing he said to me in Ottawa before we parted ways was "we'll see you somewhere on the road!"

He makes me feel so special and I felt like I was back in Ottawa that night again because I just felt so elated and appreciated by one of my favorite people ever like here i was 3rd row at a foreigner concert sobbing to myself because I was getting texts from the frontman for Styx not long after their set

UNITED NATIONS—It’s no small feat to steal a show as big as the annual September gathering of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Yet even in this rarefied sphere, many VIPs will be angling to catch up with one man. For a fleeting moment, dignitaries will be able to have a quiet word or a snap quick selfie with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky without having to take a 10-hour train ride through an active war zone.

For his part, Zelensky arrived in New York with a small entourage and a big agenda, hoping to garner multilateral support for Ukraine’s ambitious peace plan and perhaps even his government’s cherished goal of establishing a special tribunal to try Russian President Vladimir Putin for the crime of aggression.

“For the first time in modern history, we have a real chance to end the aggression on the terms of the nation which was attacked,” Zelensky said in his much-anticipated turn at the U.N. General Assembly’s famous rostrum today. Speaking in English, he told the assembly that “while Russia is pushing the world to the final war, Ukraine is doing everything to ensure that after Russian aggression, no one in the world will dare to attack any nation. Weaponization must be restrained. War crimes must be punished.”

With a Ukraine delegation including Zelensky’s wife and foreign minister joining him in the assembly hall, and Russia represented by its deputy ambassador to the U.N., Zelensky made it clear that he didn’t believe promises would be enough to reassure Ukraine. “Evil cannot be trusted,” he said. “Ask [dead mercenary boss Yevgeny] Prigozhin if one bets on Putin’s promises.”

Putin is already facing charges in the International Criminal Court for the alleged unlawful deportation of children from Ukraine. But an independent tribunal for the crime of aggression has been among Kyiv’s goals since the early days of the war, and its diplomats were circulating a draft resolution for the U.N. General Assembly’s consideration as early as last October. Ultimately, the proposal was left out of the resolution that was supported by 141 member states in February in order to persuade more countries to sign on. 

Polish President Andrzej Duda has been more explicit than many of Ukraine’s allies in his support for the idea. He told the U.N. General Assembly today, “we support the idea of establishing an ad hoc special tribunal.” Then, foreshadowing Zelensky, he added, “The crimes must be accounted for, and the perpetrators punished.”

But Zelensky may need to use all of his powers of persuasion to win over new converts to the idea in New York. “I’m not sure he’s going to find that the fence-sitters are very receptive to the idea of a tribunal,” said Richard Gowan, the U.N. director at the International Crisis Group. Zelensky might be arriving in New York with a stronger hand, Gowan said, if Ukraine’s slow-moving counteroffensive were further along. “It’s a lot harder to get other U.N. members to sign up to that sort of plan when they’re still very skeptical about how things are going to turn out on the battlefield.”

Moscow and Kyiv are locked in a diplomatic tussle for the hearts and minds of some traditionally nonaligned countries. For example, the foreign ministers of both countries recently made swings through African countries that have abstained in U.N. General Assembly votes about Russia’s war in Ukraine. Thomas G. Weiss, a CUNY Graduate Center political science professor and a longtime U.N. watcher, finds it baffling that more than 40 countries can still be sitting on the General Assembly sidelines. 

“In rhetorical terms, the one thing they can usually agree on is that colonization was not a great idea,” he said. “And yet they do not condemn this blatant return to empire.”

Some U.N. diplomats have been making the explicit connection between Russian aggression potentially leading to a revival of expansionist wars in other theaters. Linda Thomas Greenfield, the United States ambassador to the U.N., recently told FP Live, “If Ukraine loses this war and Russia gets away with what they’re doing in Ukraine, it’s a signal to others in the world that they can do exactly the same thing.”

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said that his emphasis this week would be on revitalizing the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals, which are 17 goals intended to reduce global poverty and inequality by 2030. They were set in 2015 and are way behind schedule. The secretary-general said that a political declaration of support could yield a “quantum leap in the response to the dramatic failures that we have witnessed until now.” 

But he was pessimistic about the outlook for making any progress toward peace in Ukraine during the U.N.’s big week. “I would love to have a chance to be able to mediate peace talks,” he said. “But I think we are far from that being possible.”

The secretary-general expressed somewhat more hope of reviving the Black Sea Grain Initiative, the U.N.’s only relative success since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022—that is, until Moscow walked away from the deal this summer. Guterres will meet this week with delegations from Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey, the three countries involved in the now-collapsed deal to allow some grain shipments to ship safely from Ukraine’s Black Sea ports. But the mood here isn’t too hopeful, and Gowan doubted that the deal would be revived with the U.N. at its center. He thought there might be a better chance of a tacit arrangement, with Turkey facilitating shipments and “the Russians turning a blind eye to at least some Ukrainian grain exports.”

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Tuesday that Russian attacks on Ukrainian grain infrastructure had destroyed some 280,000 tons of cereals, enough to feed millions.

The real sparks may fly on Wednesday, when both Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are expected to speak to the U.N. Security Council. It’s been a little more than a year since Ukraine’s president challenged the council during a video appearance to either remove Russia so that it couldn’t veto decisions about its own aggression, or to “dissolve yourselves altogether.”

Wednesday’s session on Ukraine will feature plenty of speakers, but likely little real progress on the issues that matter most. “The geopolitical situation may be the most complicated since the founding of the U.N. Charter after the Second World War,” said a senior diplomat, who preferred not to give a name in order to speak freely, last week. “We are in a different era since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, which is the worst breach of the charter since it was adopted.”

Zelensky may find it challenging to get the fence-sitters to pick a side, let alone convince Russia to forswear its aggressive war. His representatives at the U.N., though, have been doggedly trying to prepare the ground. Last week, at a screening of the documentary 20 Days in Mariupol, about Russia’s relentless siege of the Ukrainian port city last year, Ukraineian U.N. Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya said, “I wish the entire Russian mission were here to watch this film.”

You know, music doesn't play a big part in my life (anymore). There was a time when every minute needed to be filled with sound, but nowadays I prefer my surroundings to be quiet. That said, sometimes a song comes around that just grabs you and doesn't let go.

I listened to an episode of the Faculty of Horror (on Hannibal/Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs). They always end the episode with a song and this time they chose "A Criminal Mind" by Gowan. I'm a child of the 80's, but I've never heard this before! I was totally blown away. It is so damn haunting. Have a listen...

And if you like this in theory, but can't get on board with the 80's aestethic (I totally can, I envision Lawrence Gowan exchanging tips on the best hairspray with Peter Murphy from Bauhaus), try the version he does with Styx. They turn it into a classic rock song. It's epic!

With this remark Judge Denton this morning sentenced Dominic Rosso, an Italian, [[pictured, top] charged with wounding with intent, to spend three years in Kingston Penitentiary. Rosso was the first of about thirty persons, found guilty in the Sessions and in sittings of the County Criminal Court, to come up for sentence.

"I hope the sentence will be a warning to his fellow countrymen."

John Gowans goes to the Central Prison for six months for a serious offence. 'I am told that he is feeble-minded," pleaded T. C. Robinette, K.C., but Judge Denton declared that his long record was against him. He served two years in 1899, terms for theft in 1894-97-99, and one this year. [Gowans would later be sentenced to the penitentiary in 1918...]

Harry Rollings, also up on a serious offence, was remanded for sentence. His Honor wanted to enquire into his case further.

Long Term for Theft. On two charges of the theft of registered letters, William Albon, a clean-cut, looking young man, was given three years in Kingston Penitentiary - the least possible under the code. It is said that the young fellow, who was employed as a clerk in the post office, received only about $4 in money.

Verney Pennock, convicted of burglary and assault, was sent down for four months. He broke into Alexander Cameron's livery stable on Keele street and stole five books of Exhibition tickets.

Sentence was suspended for two weeks in the case of David W. Ross and Morley Wilson, charged with taking W. E. Radcliffe's automobile from In front of the Grand Union Hotel. The young men, who were somewhat the worse for liquor, went for a "joy ride," which ended at an early hour in the morning. The motor car was damaged to the extent of $60. Mr. Robinette pleaded for leniency on the score of youth and good character, specially in the case of Wilson.

Three Months For Theft. "He pays too much attention to athletics and has not been well. The trouble is that he is overstrained," was the plea of T. C. Robinette in the case of Arthur Scholes, champion mile runner of Canada, and who came third at the Ward Marathon games last Saturday. He had pleaded guilty to the theft of two diamond rings from No. 190 Garden avenue, where he had gone to do papering.

"The man who was with me told me that the rings were lying there. First I said not to take them, and then I picked them up on the impulse of the moment as we were leaving. I gave one to him, and gave the other to a friend."

"A woman friend?" asked his Honor. "Yes."

The young man's father and mother both pleaded hard.

"What happened to the other man?" was asked. "He turned King's evidence."

"I can't afford to let you go," said his Honor, "you will spend three months in jail."

A fine of $50 and costs or two months in jall was the sentence given Charles Hall for assaulting Evelyn Ferris.

His Honor started to read a list of previous convictions when Hall declared: "You must have me mixed up with somebody else. I didn't do those things."

"That must be another case," suggested Crown Attorney Greer. "Why don't they do things right in the Police Court?" said his Honor with some heat, then turning to the prisoner he asked: "What terms have you served?"

"I was in jail once for six months and once for eight months."

"Both for assault?"

"No, just one of them."

Six Months For Perjury. William J. Cottrell, found guilty of perjury in a damage suit against the Toronto Railway Company, stood up quite calmly to receive sentence. He was chewing gum. He wanted to call witnesses to testify to his good character.

"You are found guilty on a very serious charge," said Judge Denton, "Perjury is one of the worst of crimes, and

"I could send you to the penitentiary for a very long time. You probably didn't realize what you were doing."

"It was all a mistake your Worship." broke in the prisoner eagerly.

"The evidence showed it was much more than a mistake. You probably, when you found yourself in that suit against the street railway, thought that you could win by stretching your statements a little. I have spoken to a number of people about you and they all speak highly of your character."

"If your Worship will let me go on suspended sentence I promise" interrupted Cottrell.

"I cannot do that" said the judge gravely. "You will be sent to the Central Prison for six months."

Was Allowed to Go. Wilfrid B. Watclyn, guilty of the theft of an automobile from the Shaw Overland Sales Company was allowed to go on suspended sentence. "He is making reparation," his Honor was told.

George Westman was remanded for sentence on the charge against him of stealing oil waste from the Simpson Wool and Knitting Company. Mr. Greer was told to investigate his story.

Three months was the sentence meted out to Joseph Davis, convicted of a serious offence. The girl, who was his second cousin, was feeble-minded. Davis' reputation in the past was excellent, and Judge Denton was lenient.

Rev. J. D. Morrow bore testimony to the good character of Albert Copley. convicted of hitting Walter Dwyer over the head after having consumed several bottles of beer. "I have every hope of reforming him," said the athletic parson. "He is a member of my church." The judge remanded him for two weeks for sentence.

G. B. Cates, for false pretences, was remanded for two weeks. He sold $210 worth of stock to Mrs. G. B. Thomas in the Artificial Ice and Distilled Water Company, a concern which was not in existence, and was given a chance to make good to Mrs. Thomas. Because Julius Bachrack is away on business, he and his brother, Emanuel, will come up again for sentence for conspiring to procure an illegal operation, in two weeks, as will David W. Ross and Morley Wilson, theft. The cases of Estella Smith, theft; Norman Tansley, indecent assault; F. A. Mansell, false pretences, were all stood over.

Remanded For Sentence. Harol Harold McKee, convicted of obtaining money under false pretences from his employers was remanded for sentence till the December Sessions. He was anxious to make restitution and was gradually doing so out of his wages.

The same treatment was accorded to Arthur Doyle, convicted of criminal negligence, who took a motor-car from in front of Shea's Theatre last July, and went for a joy ride. His sentence will depend on the efforts he makes to make good the damage.

Sixty days is the sentence on Frank McCarron for horse stealing. He hired a horse and later, together with another man, sold it. "It's cost me $200 now. I got all the blame, while the other man was discharged," exclaimed the prisoner, but he was sent down, nevertheless.

David Applebaum, Abraham Manhan, David Reece, ranging in ages from 16 to 20 years, employed at Hanlan's Point, where they stole amounts of from 70 cents to $10, were allowed to go on suspended sentence. Joseph Re, who got two $5 instead of one in making a sale also had sentence suspended.

Clinton Shaw and Ernest McRae, found guilty of stealing solder from J. C. McFadden, were allowed to go on suspended sentence. Both are of youthful appearance.
