Image #1: Trees have been trimmed outside Universal Studios, taking away the shade from protestors on a 90 Degree Fahrenheit Week. After some investigation it was found that the tress belonged the the city and they had not issued permits for them to be trimmed.
Image #2: A picture posted to r/Disneyland with the caption "Today at the Park...". The picture shows a sign that reads, "Notice of Filming Today. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will be filming at this location today. By entering this location, you irrevocably consent to and authorize Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, its affiliates, successors, and assigns (collectively, 'Producer'), to photograph you, make audio and video recordings of you, and use such photographs and recordings throughout the world, for any purpose whatsoever in perpetuity and in any media including, but not limited to, online, social media, streaming platforms, television broadcast and home entertainment products. All such photographs and recordings will be the sole property of the Producer." At the bottom of the sign it says, "Disney: Haunted Mansion, World Premiere, Disneyland"
Imagine getting paid 400 times more than your lowest paid worker and complaining about workers being "unrealistic." Like, listen Bobby boy, I think even 40 times more or whatever the rate was in 1990. I'm about to make a new Modest Proposal if you know what I mean lol

Rereading “A Modest Proposal”
You know, I could see, with a few word changes (simplifying), a lot of conservatives nodding along to Swift’s suggestions.
Unironically.

I lied, put your clothes back on, I'm going to explain the Modest Proposal essay by Jonathon Swift in 1729 in great detail to you and how in America, we aren't too far off from the details he put despite his satire tone throughout the entire writing.

When It Comes to Truth, Fiction Tells It Best
Albert Camus was prescient when he said, “Fiction is the lie through which we tell the truth.” In this age of fake news and Donald Trump’s lies, fiction may be our best defense against untruth. You can deny truth. It’s harder to deny fiction. In a piece titled Moving Beyond Disaster-Think, Jeannette de Beauvoir, who writes mystery and historical fiction, says, “It’s easy to want to crawl into a…

An internal monologue written in Fyodor Dostoevsky’s style in Crime and Punishment based on the satirical article A Modest Proposal written by Jonathan Swift.
Enjoy. I know i’ve been MIA because of classes so here’s some creative writing I did for one of my classes.
Maeve sat alone in that dim room, the air thick weighed down by the decisions she had yet to make. The cracked mirror opposite her reflected fragments of her face---the dark circles framing her tortured eyes, her trembling mouth, lips pressed together in dismay. A modest proposal, indeed. The words echoed, taunting her.
It had begun as an idea, a dreadful little seed planted deep in her skull---a solution, a thought too despicable to be uttered out loud. Yet there it was, flowing through her veins, a secret she was too ashamed to carry yet too weak to release. Why not? the voice hissed, sly and serpent like---surely not her own. Why not Maeve? Is it not practical? Is it not, in its grotesque way, just?
“No,” she herself hissed aloud, clutching her temples as if she could crush the thought itself. “No, no, no. This is madness. It’s monstrous. What kind of mother would even---”
But the voice interrupted, unrelenting. A practical one. A mother who sees the world as it is, not as she wants it to be. You think that they have not already taken them? ---May it not be physically--- They’ve taken their futures, their dignity, their worth. All for their own gain. Now, all you’d be doing is formalizing what is already done. Making them part of the system. Turning them into a resource.
A resource. Maeve's stomach turned at the word, but she couldn’t deny the truth of it. He was already truly nothing more than a resource in the eyes of the elite. What did it matter if she surrendered him willingly, offered him up like lambs to the slaughter? Perhaps, in some twisted way, it was better to hand him over herself than to watch the world take him piece by piece. Repaying her debts through labor, whatever it may be. Surely, surely this must be the choice she should make. One must be better than the other.
And yet… how could she look into his eyes again? How could she face the wide-eyed innocence of her own child, knowing she had bargained away his very life. Her breath came in shallow gasps as the weight of her thoughts pressed down on her, suffocating and inescapable.
“Am I not his mother?” she whispered breathlessly. She staggered to her feet, pacing the dark and narrow room. “Perhaps,” she muttered bitterly, her lips curling into a sad smile “perhaps this is the only justice left. To offer my child to the wolves, so that I may survive the pack.”
But even as the thought crossed her mind she knew it was a lie. There would be no survival, there would be no redemption. Only the crushing weight of guilt, the everlasting torment of knowing she had betrayed the only good thing she had ever created. Maeve sank back into her chair, staring blankly into the cracked mirror.
The reflection mocked her, fractured, broken, a woman split in two. A reflection she no longer recognized as her own. In her mind, the proposal lingered. She thought of her child sleeping soundly in the next room, unaware of the storm raging in his mothers soul.
And Maeve wondered, for the first time, if the true monster was not the proposal itself, but the woman who could imagine it.

I think tumblr's next very old media obsession should be A Modest Proposal. Because it would be funny, extremely controversial, and excellent social commentary all at once.
