Martyrdom of the two infant sons of Hazrat Muslim bin Aqeel [a.s] (Muhammad and Ibraheem)
Tumblr media
Shaikh Sadooq has related in his Amali from his father (Ibne Babawayh Awwal), from Ali bin Ibraheem, who relates from his father, from Ibraheem bin Raja, from Ali bin Jabir, from Usman bin Dawood Hashmi, from Mohammad bin Muslim, from Humran bin A'ayan from Abu Mohammad, one of the noblemen of Kufa.
He says that when Imam Hussain [a.s] was martyred, two infant boys from his cantonment were arrested and taken to Ubaydullah bin Ziyad. Ubaydullah called for the prison guard and said, "Take away these two children and imprison them. Do not give them good food or cold water, and harass them."
The infants fasted during the day and when night came the guard brought two breads of barley and a jar of water for them. When one year passed in this manner, one of them said to the other, "We have spent quite a long time in the prison and our lives are passing away, while our bodies have worn out. When the old prison guard comes to us, we shall reveal to him our status and ancestry, so that he might be compassionate towards us."
Thus during night as usual the old prison guard came with two breads of barley and a jar of water. The younger one said, "O Shaikh! Do you know Prophet Moham‌mad [s.a.w.w]"? He replied, "How should I not know him, for he is my Prophet [s.a.w.w]." The child then said, "Do you then know Ja'far bin Abi Talib [a.s]", to which he replied in the affirmative and said, "Allah has be‌stowed him with two wings, so he flies alongwith the Angels wherever he desires." The child then said, "Do you then know Ali bin Abi Talib [a.s]"? The old man said, "Yes I do know him, for he is the cousin and brother of my Prophet [s.a.w.w]." The child retorted,
"O Shaikh! We are from the progeny of your Prophet [s.a.w.w] and are the sons of Muslim bin Aqeel bin Abi Talib [a.s]. We have been in prison under you for a long time. You do not give us good food and you persecute us in the prison."
The prison guard fell upon their feet and said,
"May my life be your ransom O progeny of the chosen Prophet of Allah [s.a.w.w]! The doors of this prison are open for you, you may go away to whichever place you desire."
When night fell, he brought two bread of barley and a jar of water and showed them the way, then said, "Travel during the night and hide during the day till Allah grants you relief."
The two children came out at night and went to the house of an old woman and said, "We are small travellers and do not know the road, and the dark‌ness of the night has fallen. Give us refuge in your house for today's night, and we shall go away as soon as it dawns." The woman said,
"Who are you my dear ones? I have never smelt a similar frangrance which is emanat‌ing from you."
They replied, "O woman! We are from the progeny of the Prophet and have escaped from the prison of Ubaydullah bin Ziyad having escaped death." The woman said, "O dear ones! My son in law is an evil man, who was present in the massacre of Karbala among the faithfuls of Ubaydullah. I fear lest he finds you here and kills you." The children replied, "We desire to hault here only for a night, and as soon as it dawns, we shall go away from here." The woman agreed and brought some food for them. The children had food and water and went to sleep. The younger brother said to the elder one,
"O dear brother! I desire that we spend this night in peace. Come closer so that we may embrace one another and go to sleep and kiss each other, lest death might part us."
They embraced each other and went to sleep.
When night advanced, the evil son in law of the old woman came and slowly knocked at the door. The woman inquired as to who it was. He replied that he was her son in law. The woman told him, "Why have you come at this unearthly hour"? The man replied, "Woe be to you! Open the door before I may turn insane and my bladder may burst due to pursuit and due to what has befallen me." The woman said, "Woe be to you! What has befal‌len you"? He replied, "Two children have escaped from the clutches of Ubaydullah bin Ziyad, and he has announced that whoever brings one of their heads to him, he shall be rewarded one thousand Dirhams. While he shall give two thousand dirhams for both their heads, and I have borne pains (in pursuing them), while nothing has reached my hands." The old woman said,
"Fear the wrath of the Holy Prophet [s.a.w.w] on the day of Qiyamah."
He replied, "Woe be to you! This world should certainly be desired." She said, "What will you do with this world when it is not accompanied by the Hereafter"? The man answered, "Why do you defend them such drastically as if you are aware of their whereabouts. Come, so that I may take you to the commander." The woman said, "What work does the commander have with me, an old woman, who lives in a corner of the desert"? He said, "I am in their pursuit. Open the door so that I may relax a bit and during morning I may think what mode should I adopt to seek them." The woman thus opened the door and brought food for him. He ate and slept.
At midnight he heard the voices of snoring of the children and advanced towards it like a wanton Camel. He started howling like a Cow and hit his hands on the wall, until his hand touched the side of the younger one. The child asked him as to who he was? He replied that he was the owner of the house and asked them as to who they were? The younger one woke up his elder brother and said,
"Arise O brother! For we have fallen prey to that what we feared." He again inquired of them as to who they were, to which they relied, "O man! Do you promise our safety if we reveal to you our identity"?
He replied in the affirmative. They said, "Do you swear protection and responsibility of Allah and His Prophet [s.a.w.w]"? to which he replied in the affirmative. They again said, "Prophet Mohammad [s.a.w.w] the son of Abdullah is the witness"? He agreed. They said, "Allah is the judge and witness upon whatever we shall tell you now"? He accepted it. Then the children said,
"We are from the progeny of your Prophet Mohammad [s.a.w.w] and have escaped from the prison of Ubaydullah bin Ziyad in fear of being killed."
He replied, "You have escaped from death and have again fallen prey to it. Praise be to Allah Who has given me victory over you."
Saying this he arose and tied the hands of the children. The children's hands lay tied until morning. And when it dawned, the man called his black slave named Faleeh, and said, "Take these two children to the shore of Euphrates and strike off their heads and bring it to me, so that I may take it to Ubaydullah and earn the reward of two thousand dirhams." The retainer lifted his sword and started walking with the children. They had not reached far from the house, when one child told him, "O black slave! You resemble Bilal the Mu'ezzin (the caller of Prayer) of the Prophet of Allah [s.a.w.w]." The retainer said, "My master has ordered me to kill you, but tell me as to who you are"? They replied, "We are from the progeny of your Prophet Mohammad (s.a.w.s), and have escaped from the prison of Ubaydullah bin Ziyad in fear of death. The woman had offered us shelter in her house while your master intends killing us." The retainer fell on their feet and kissing them said,
"May my life be your ransom, and may my face act as a shield for yourselves, O children of Allah's chosen Prophet! By Allah! I shall not perform the act which would invite the wrath of Moham‌mad [s.a.w.w] on the day of Qiyamah."
Saying this he threw away his sword and jumped into the sea and swam away to the opposite shore. When his master saw it he screamed, "You have disobeyed me." To which he relied, "I have never disobeyed you until you yourself disobeyed Allah. And now that you have disobeyed Allah, I disown you in this world as well as the Here‌after."
Then the man called his son and said, "I have gathered for you through lawful and unlawful means, while this world is such that it should be acquired. Hence take these children to the shore of Euphrates and severe their heads and bring them to me, so that I may take them to Ubaydullah and get two thousand dirhams as reward for it." His son lifted the sword and started walking ahead of them. They had not reached far when one of the child told him, "O youth! How I fear your youth being burnt in the fire of hell." The youth asked them as to who they were? They replied, "We are from the progeny of your Prophet, and your father intends killing us." Hearing this the youth fell upon their feet and kissing them repeated the words of the slave and jumped into the sea and swam to the opposite shore. When his father saw this he called out, "You disobey me"? To which he replied,
"Allah's obedience is more dear (to me) than yours."
Hearing this the accursed said, "No one will be ready to kill you except myself", saying this he lifted the sword and went towards them.
When they reached the shore of Euphrates, he unsheathed his sword. When the infants saw the naked sword, their eyes became full of tears. Then they said, "O Shaikh! Take us to the market and sell us and do not invite the wrath of the Prophet in Qiyamah." He replied, "No, verily I shall kill you and take your heads to Ubaydullah and thereby earn reward from him." They said, "O Shaikh! Do you not consider the relation we share with the Proph‌et"? To which he said, "Verily you have no relation with the Prophet as such." They again said, "O Shaikh! Then take us to the presence of Ubaydullah, so that he may decide what to do with us." He replied, "I do not have any other way, except that I may earn his nearness by spilling your blood." The children said, "O Shaikh! Do you not have pity upon our infan‌cy"? to which he replied that,
"Allah has not allotted mercy in my heart."
Then they said, "O Shaikh! Now that there is no hope left, give us respite to recite some units of Prayers."
He said, "Pray as much as you like if it benefits you." The children recited four units of Prayers, then lifted their eyes towards the heavens and cried, "O Ever-Living! O Wise! O the Best of Judges! Judge between us with righteousness." He stood up and severed the head of the elder brother and kept his head in a bag. The younger brother, who had smeared his body in the blood of his elder broth‌er, said, "I desire to meet the Prophet of Allah (s.a.w.s) in this very state drenched in the blood of my brother." He said, "Do not fear, for I shall soon join you with your brother", saying this he severed his head too and placed it in the bag. Then he threw their bodies into the river of Eu‌ phrates.
He then brought the heads to Ubaydullah, who was seated on his throne with a bamboo staff in his hands. He placed the heads of the children facing Ubaydullah, who after seeing it arose and sat down thrice. Then he said, "Woe be to you! Where did you find them"? He said, "A woman from our family had given them refuge." Ubaydullah said, "Then did you not honour the right of guesthood"? He replied in the negative. Ubaydullah asked, "What did they say to you"? He relied, "They said: Take us to the market and sell us and tie our hands and do not earn the wrath of Prophet Mohammad [s.a.w.w] in Qiyamah." Ubaydullah said, "Then what did you reply"? He said, "I said: No, verily I shall kill you and take your heads to Ubaydullah and thereby earn reward of two thousand Dirhams from him." Ubaydullah said, "Then what did they reply"? He said, "They said: Then take us alive to the presence of Ubaydullah, so that he may decide what to do with us." "Then what did you say", asked Ubaydullah. He replied, "I said: No, but I seek to earn his nearness by spilling your blood." Ubaydullah asked, "Why did you not bring them to me alive, so that I could have gifted you four thou‌sand dirhams"?
He replied, "My heart did not give me respite except to earn your nearness by spilling their blood."
Ubaydullah then asked him as to what they then said. He replied, "They said: Atleast honour the relation we have with the Prophet" and I said "Verily you have no relation with the Prophet as such." Ubaydullah said, "Woe be to you! Then what did they say"? He said, "They then said, "Do you not pity our infancy and I replied that Allah had not placed mercy in my heart." Ubaydullah said, "Woe be to you! What else did they tell you"? He replied, "Then they said: Give us some respite so that we may recite some units of Prayers", and I replied, "Pray as much as you like if it benefits you. The children then recited four units of Prayers." Ubaydullah said, "What did the children say after ending their Prayers"? He said, "They lifted their eyes towards the heavens and said,
"O Everliving! O Wise! O the Best of Judges! Judge between us with righteousness."
Hearing this Ubaydullah said, "Allah has verily judged between you. Who shall come forth to kill this accursed man", hearing this a Syrian came forward. Ubaydullah said, "Take him to the same spot where he slayed the children and strike his head, and spill his blood over their's, and hasten to bring his head to me." The man did exactly as told and when his head was brought, it was placed on a lance and children threw stones and arrows at it and said,
"This is the murderer of the progeny of the Prophet [s.a.w.w]."

Salman al-Farsi reports that Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) asked us? :
Do you wish to see the ring of Sulaiman Ibn Dawood (a.s.)_
We said – Yes
He (a.s.) fished in his pocket and took out a ring studded with a green ruby. Inscribed on it was Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) and Ali (a.s.).
Salman says – _We were astonished with it._
Ali (a.s.) – What is so astonishing about it. Nothing about me should astonish you.

Learn Quran With Female Quran Teachers
From the creation of the universe till now, Allah has ordained means for the guidance and direction of His servants in every age. The various prophets in different periods and the scriptures and books revealed are living examples of this. The series of prophets that started with Adam (A.S) ended with our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Hazrat Muhammad PBUH was awarded the divine scripture of Almighty, the Holy Quran. It is the Holy Book of wisdom that Allah Almighty want us to learn Quran and its teachings to live a better life and got success in the Hereafter as:
On the Day of Qiyaamah, a crown of such brilliance will be placed on the heads of the parents of one who learnt the Holy Quran and practised its laws that its glitter will outshine the sun's glow and penetrates your houses. What then do you think will be the position of the one who himself learnt the Holy Quran and acted in accordance with it?
[Hadith | Ahmad and Abu Dawood]
To follow Allah’s given direction and get more blessings from your Creator, you must check for the ways to connect with Allah Almighty. The most typical and the most influential of those ways is to learn Quran. It has been a source of guidance and Almighty pleasure from its revelation till now. They prefer fun and playing activities; hence, they don't concentrate at the beginning of the Quran lessons. It becomes challenging for male teachers to stay calm and bepatient in such a situation. However, female teachers will be more adaptable to cope with the situation as patience reduces negative emotions and make them more open to changes.
·        Female teachers are better at communication.
Communication is crucial in all circumstances of life. However, it becomes highly significant for better learning. Imam Muhammad al-Jawad Wiladat (Brith)
Imam al-Jawad (a.s) says, "Whoever trusts in Allah, Allah makes him happy and whoever relies on Allah, Allah suffices his needs. The trust in Allah is a fort which no one takes refuge in except the believers, and the reliance on Allah is a protection from every evil and a refuge from every enemy."
Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jawad (also known as al-Taqi) is our ninth Imam and the son of the revered Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (pbuh). He was born on the 10th of Rajab, which fell on this past Friday (April 7th) and died on the 29th of Dhulqa'da and is buried in Kadhimain (Iraq). Some sources recount his birth to be on the 19th of Ramadan as well.
Imam al-Ridha was very delighted with the birth of his son, He began saying, “The like of Moses son of Imran, the splitter of the seas, and the like of Jesus son of Mary, blessed be the mother that bore him… has been borne to me.” Imam ar-Ridha’ (a.s) turned to his companions and told them the good news of his newborn son. He said, ‘Allah has granted me one who will inherit me and inherit the children of Dawood….’
As we have been taking notice, the trend of Imams taking on the role of Imamate at a young age actually began with Imam Muhammad al Jawad. He became the Imam at the tender age of 9 years and the oppressor, Ma’mun Rashid, had plans to take advantage of this. Imam al Jawad can easily be a pillar and example to anyone, but especially to orphans, because his own father was taken away from him at the age of 5 and kept by Ma'mun. Ma'mun was savvy in his thinking, unlike his predecessors, he did not imprison Imam Ali al-Ridha, but rather would try to sway him with wealth and status. He would attempt to make it seem to the public as though they were working together in order to fool the people into believing that he was a good man. So Ma'mun thought that since Imam al-Jawad is 9, maybe it'll be easier to sway and influence him. This of course, did not work no matter how hard Ma'mun tried with all of his power and wealth.
His Epithets: As regards his noble epithets, they show his great personality and exalted self. The most common are as follows:
1. Al-Jawad (the generous): he was thus called because of his abundant acts of good, beneficence and charity towards the people.
2. Al-Taqi (the pious): he was thus called because he feared Allah and turned and resorted to Him. He never responded to any incitement of desire or fancy. Al-Ma’moon, the Abbasid caliph, had tried him with different types of provocations, but he was not deceived. He turned to Allah and preferred His obedience to anything else.
3. Al-Qani’ (the satisfied).
4. Al-Murtadha (being satisfied with).
5. Al-Radhiy (the satisfied).
6. Al-Mukhtar (the elect).
7. Al-Mutawakkil (the reliant (on Allah)).
8. Al-Zakiy (the pure).
9. Bab al-Murad (the gate of desires and hopes). He was known by this epithet amongst the Muslims who believed that he was a gate from the gates of the Divine Mercy, to which afflicted and needy people resorted in order to rid themselves of their misfortunes and afflictions.
As the Imam, Imam al-Jawad spent his time preparing people to be the leaders of Taqleed and Ijtihad because he knew this would be necessary during the time of Imam al-Mahdi and that the two Imams to come will spend most of their time in prison. "He also prepared the people of Madina teaching true Islam knowing that this would be the last time they would be able to receive guidance directly from an Imam for a long time." The Imam was generous in his speech, knowledge, and actions. He was the walking, talking form of generosity-thus his name Jawad.

Mend my heart Oh Husayn!
Ask our Lord to fashion it into your clay Ya Husayn and shape it into beauty. Make it take on the form of your pleasure. Just as iron became soft for Nabi Dawood a.s. let my heart be soft for you.  Mend my heart Ya Husayn as everyday it breaks for you.  And in every sight and every plight this world fights through, nothing comes close to the comparison of what you went through. My heart breaks nonetheless, for the pain of the world is due to what they did to you. You stood against them but they did the unmentionable and continue to do so today. Every day since the day they removed you from our eyes they have opposed justice and truth and have twisted the minds and hurt the innocent.  Mend my heart Ya Husayn bend it and fashion it into armour just as Nabi Dawood did with iron. Take me on as your warrior. Nothing else will satisfy. Nothing else will quench this thirst. Take this heart, before it can burst. Mend my heart Ya Husayn!

What The Holy Qur’an And Traditions Say About Woman And Social Life
Obtaining Permission “O you who believe, do not enter houses other than your own houses, until you have obtained permission and greeted their dwellers; this is better for you, that you may remember.” (Holy Qur’an, 24:27).
Resemblance Imam Ali (a.s.) quotes the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) as saying: “Allah curses those men who make themselves resemble women or those women who make themselves resemble men.” 1
Perfuming Outside Home Imam Husayn (a.s.) quotes the Prophet of Islam as saying: “Any woman who perfumes herself and leaves her home is cursed by the angels and deprived of the blessings of the Almighty Allah until she returns home.” 2
Evil Looks Imam Husayn (a.s.) quotes the Messenger of Allah as saying: “An evil look is one of the poisonous arrows of Iblis (Satan) and how an evil look causes long-suffering regrets.” 3
Avoiding the Forbidden Things Imam al-Baqir (a.s.) narrates: “Every eye shall cry on the Day of Resurrection with the exception of three: an eye which passed the nights guarding Muslims (their wealth, land, etc.) for the sake of Allah; an an eye which wept for fear of Allah; and an eye which was cast down against the deeds made forbidden by Allah.” 4
Looking at Women Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) was asked whether it is lawful for a man to look at the face of a woman whom he wants to marry and also to look at her from behind. He said: “Yes, there is no objection for a man to look at a woman whom he wants to marry including her face and to look at her from behind.” 5
Saluting Women Imam Husayn (a.s.) says: “The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) used to salute women and they used to reply his salutation. While the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (a.s.), also used to salute women, but he disliked to salute the young among the women and said, ‘I feared that her voice would admire me and thus affect me so I would commit sin more than get reward.” 6
The Punishment of Chasing Women Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a.s.) says: “A young man from the Ansar met a woman is Madina. At that time, women used to wear a veil, so he looked at her while she was coming toward him. Men she passed by he continued looking after her until he entered one of the alleys. He continued looking as he passed along the alley until a bone on a wall slashed his face and the woman passed out of sight. Then, unexpectedly, he saw blood flowing over his clothes and chest. He said, ‘I must go and inform the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) about the incident.’ When the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) saw him in this condition he said, ‘What happened?’ When he informed the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) about the event in details, the angel Gabriel (a.s.) came down with this verse:
‘Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Truly Allah is Cognizant of what they do.’ (Holy Qur’an, 24:30). 7
Sitting on Roadsides Abi Saeed al-Khidri narrates that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) said: “‘Beware of sitting on roadsides.’ Then some of his companions asked him,. ‘Oh Messenger of Allah! We cannot stop these meetings on roadsides where we talk about different matters.’ The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) said, ‘If you refuse but to stop having such meetings, then you should give the road its rights.’
“They asked him, ‘What are the rights of the road?’ He said, ‘To cast down your eyes; to forbear harms to others; to reply to salutation,. to enjoin what is right and to forbid what is wrong.'” 8
Being Covetous of the Honour of Believers The Commander of the Faithful (a.s.) said: “Surely Allah gets angry for the honour of the believing men and the believing women. So a believing man should get angry (for his honour). Because he who does not get angry (for his honour) is the one whose heart is upside-down.” 9
Sweetness of Casting down the Eye Abu Imamah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) said: “A Muslim is he who looks at the beauties of a woman and then casts down his eyes, Allah will give him the reward of worship whose sweetness he will find in his heart.” 10
Guarding Oneself The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) said: “Guard yourselves from six things and I am your surety for Paradise: when you speak, speak the truth; perform when you promise; discharge your trust,. and guard your private parts (except from your wives); cast down your eyes; with hold your hand from committing aggression or forbidden things.” 11
Respecting a Woman The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.), addressing the Muslims on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, warned them against the values which he feared would be neglected after him, and referred to woman as one of the important issues about whom he said: “Observe your duty to Allah in respect to the women, and treat them well.”
The Blessed Marriage Anas narrates that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) said: “Whoever marries a woman for her glory, Allah will not increase his, but will bring him humiliation; whoever marries her for her wealth, Allah will not increase his, but place him in poverty; whoever marries her for ancestral claims, Allah will not increase his, but in meanness; whoever marries a woman for nothing but to cast down his eyes, guard his private parts, and join a relationship, Allah will bless him through her and vice versa.” 12
The Holy Qur’an says:
“And one of His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He put between you love and compassion; most surely there are signs for a people who reflect.” (Holy Qur’an, 30:21).
In another verse, the obedient married women are described:
“…there fore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband’s) absence what God would have them guard.” (Holy Qur’an, 4:34).
Encouragement to Keep Hijab Islam, with its benevolent view towards women, encourages them to keep hijab in this verse of the Holy Qur’an:
“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers that they should cast their outer garments over them (when abroad); this is more proper, that they should be known (recognized as such) and not molested. And Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (Holy Qur’an, 33:59).
Equality The Holy Qur’an speaks of the equality of the two sexes in various verses. In one place it says: “…and women have rights similar to those against them in a just manner,…” (Holy Qur’an, 2:228).
Elsewhere, the Holy Qur’an says:
“O mankind, surely We have created you from a mele and a female, and made you nations and tribes, that you may know each other. Surely the noblest of you with Allah is the most righteous. Surely Allah Knowing, Aware.” (Holy Qur’an, 49:13).
About work and doing good deeds, again the Holy Qur’an reveals the beauty of Islam and its equal treatment of workers. This is something the West still has not been able to accomplish! The Holy Qur’an says:
“And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, and he/she is a believer – they will enter the Garden, and not the least injustice will be done to them.” (Holy Qur’an, 4:124).
“Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, We shall certainly make him live a good life, and We shall certainly give them their reward for the best of what they did.” (Holy Qur’an, 16:97).
Another verse, Allah, Most High still promises:
“…I will not suffer the work of any worker among you to be lost whether male or female, the one of you being from the other…”(Holy Qur’an, 3:195) .
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds
