Bear 747- 2022 Fat Bear Week Champion

Choose the fattest bear of the year! Some of the largest brown bears on Earth make their home at Brooks River in Katmai National Park, Alaska. Brown bears get fat to survive and Fat Bear Week is an annual tournament celebrating their success in preparation for winter hibernation.  Fat Bear Week 2023 is October 4 - October 10. Your vote decides who is the fattest of the fat. Matchups will be open for voting between 12 - 9  p.m. Eastern (9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Pacific). Download your bracket to predict your own fat bear winner. This is a single elimination tournament. For each match-up, vote for the bear you believe best exemplifies fatness. The bear with the most votes advances to the next round. Only one will be crowned champion of Fat Bear Week. Learn more about the history of Fat Bear Week.

2023 Fat Bear Week

This year, Fat Bear Week starts on October 4 and concludes on Fat Bear Tuesday, October 10. In addition to voting during this week-long tournament, there will be a series of online chats on explore.org featuring Mike Fitz, explore.org's resident naturalist, and rangers from Katmai. These chats focus on both the individual bears and Katmai's healthy ecosystem. Throughout the season, you can also tune in to the explore.org bear cams, which offer unprecedented access to the lives of the bears of Brooks River. There are also special live events on a variety of topics hosted weekly throughout the season. Who's who in the bracket? We will reveal the bracket live here at 3 PM AKDT/7 PM EDT on October 2. I feel terrible, it's day one of Fat Bear Jr. and I forgot.

We've got 2 matchups today, starting with the triple threat of 901's Spring cubs Vs the singular cub of 806 who looks to be well prepared for this challenge.

Then we have 909 Jr, who by the shape of them looks like there could be some Otis in there, and just one up is 910's yearling who may just have one more year in the Jr brackets before going on to the big show.

Like bears stuff their face with fish, our ballot box, too, has been stuffed.

It appears someone has decided to spam the Fat Bear Week poll, but fortunately it is easy for us to tell which votes are fraudulent. We have discarded the fake votes and today’s official totals are:

Stopped by TSA for smuggling salmon, supersized sow 435 Holly missed her connection while jumbo jet 747 cleared the runway. This capacious cargo carrier cruised into the finals with a triumphant tailwind.

You will not have to log in, but you will not be able to submit your creations through the site and the card will not be eligible for the leaderboard. Here are the steps to get an official card:

1 - Log in

Log in with Discord, Tumblr, or Twitter. It doesn’t matter which one. It just helps us keep track of your card and submissions.

2 - Navigate to Bingo Bonanza

At the top of the screen, at the end of the header, is the selection for Bingo Bonanza. Click on it.

3 - Choose your bingo card

Here, you will start with a randomly generated card. If you don’t like it, the shuffle button below the card will give you a new card.

4 - Save your bingo card

To select the card you want to start with, click the Select button. It will ask if you are sure (you will not be able to start a new card until you finish your current one), click accept. If it has saved your card, it will give you a success message. Otherwise, it will let you know something went wrong. If it continues to happen, please reach out to a mod.

5 - Get creating!

You now have your bingo card! Whenever you come back, it should automatically load. Once submissions are open, you’ll be able to click on the corresponding square to submit your work. (Fic, Art, Edits, and more are all acceptable!)

FAT BEAR WEEK SEMIFINAL DAY ONE HAS ARRIVED!

Yesterday's FBW brought twists and turns as my beloved, four time crowned Fattest Bear 480 Otis was taken out by newcomer 901, and in a completely shocking turn of events for me, 128 Grazer beat out 151 Walker by a mere 4,000 votes. I really thought Walker was going to be the bear to beat, but that just goes to show you that anything can happen during Fat Bear Week.

Today we have fan favorites and previous champions going head to head: 747 against 435 Holly! Voting opened almost five hours ago and I still have no idea who I'll be voting for. They've both put on a shit ton of pounds! I have no idea how I'll choose. Voting closes at 5pm AKDT or 9pm EST, so I still have time to decide, but guys. I'm torn.
