Don't mind me, just thinking about a character recovering from an illness or injury. The danger has passed, but they're still weak and exhaustion follows them like a heavy cloud. Comfort food is brought regularly. Soft clothes. Blankets. Fuzzy socks.

Particularly, the image of them sleeping on a squashy looking couch. Maybe they kicked off the blankets. Golden sunlight bathes them in warmth, and it's heavenly. Their hair is fluffed and messy.

And their companion stops themselves in the threshold of the door, not wanting to disturb this rare moment of bliss. They're carrying a tray of warm food, and the steam catches in the sun's rays just right.

They smile. Lunch can wait.

So first of all he’d like to say it wasn’t his fault. He wasn’t into magic stuff, that was all Billy’s schtick. So really, it is not Victor’s fault that he accidentally activates some sort of sigil and suddenly ends up with a very confused looking child. 

A young girl, maybe four or five, with bright red eyes, slightly pointed ears, and what looks to be some sort of living suit partially fused with her body. Alright, okay, he doesn’t have to freak out, he’ll just… call one of the Justice League Dark members and get her a spare shirt or something to wear until they come to the Watchtower!

It’s fine, he’s fine. He’s not having memories to when he first got melded with all of this tech that’s now a part of him and feeling sick at the idea of it happening to a child.

I think I've talked about this too much to people but I always think the direct comparison of Kenneth Marshall to Trump is an under-representation of. the amount of evil people that are. visible in his character

like Trump is absolutely a very clear inspiration for Marshall's incompetence and his narcissism, but I also think (not only his position as a former senator) puts him in line with some of the other power hungry ghouls on the lower rungs of conservative legislation. He's deftly uncharismatic and has to rely on power to get people to at least pretend to like him, reminds me of JD Vance (not to mention the whole thing with him wearing visible eye makeup during the talk show sequence, makeup in general, is a think JD Vance has been made fun of for like. forever now). Known ghoul Matt Gaetz has one of the most joyless, unnatural smiles in the world. So does Kenneth Marshall. (no disrespect to Mark Ruffalo there, i'm pretty sure he's either doing some kind of facial work or has prosthetic teeth to create that)

The evangelicalism that Niflheim is founded upon in is obviously very closely knit with the conservative party, but also works to make Marshall very reminiscent of a lot of Megachurch pastors and Televangelists-- (this isn't a revelation or anything, it's very obvious. HE LITERALLY HAS HIS OWN TV SHOW) lest we forget the time he tried to convince that lady to have his children IN FRONT OF YLFA, BTW, WHO ALSO SEEMED DOWN WITH THAT WHICH IS. whatever. i'm pretty sure the bible does not permit adultery, but cult leaders are very well known for disregarding such a rule and justifying it under the rule of god.

and of course the full on dictator mode he gets into in the last act is very clearly reminiscent of like. every dictator ever. pick one.

oh yeah and bong joon ho literally said the character was inspired by "a mix of many different politicians" and "dictators that we have seen throughout history."

Under the guise of talking about Michael, Dean is trying to figure out... what he actually SAID to Cas while under duress

DEAN: "What's HE doing now?" (i.e., “he” is me; how do you see me and my current state right now?)

Ss Cas says that he has no idea how "he"/Dean is, and that Dean was very distraught. Dean even nods a little bit in agreement. (Yes, I was distraught.)

THEN WE GET THE FLASH OF VULNERABILITY AND FRUSTRATION:

But what exactly did "he" say? And Cas answers:

"We didn't bond" is when Dean starts to legit look like he's gonna cry tho because he and cas DID bond, right from the beginning.

Cas has lost hope in that bond for the time being (a normal response to the -everything- and -the chuck of it all-)

And now all this TERRIBLE stuff has happened and it's got a LOT. OF. COMPLICATING. COSMIC. ELEMENTS.

(Cas holds back for many reasons, and most recently, the Empty deal DOES emotionally handcuff him in a new and more lethal way, and it exacerbates ALL the stuff... and Dean... isn't often allowed to speak, especially about THIS IN PARTICULAR. He's put under so much duress about it, too...)

So Cas brings them BOTH to safer "work talk"

Interesting that his body language does this chin tuck again here:

it's the hiding of emotions, the defensiveness, the hiding of the throat of it all

He also did this at the beginning of the convo when he started the coded communications in EARNEST. They're bookends, almost, in terms of Dean's acting/headspace.

This signals the end of "he" as being about Dean himself and shifts back to "he" being used normally, about another person (Sam).

I do love how that conversation is a small step toward mending their bond. They broached the painful wounds of lone-wolfing, Mary’s death, Jack’s death, siding with Chuck, and losing Rowena..

Now, when trouble shakes out, and Michael starts doing his earthquake thing, they look to one another, and this time, they go together to face him.

When Michael stands up and moves towards them, we see Dean's natural needs to shrink away.

Dean barely shifts his weight, like his instinct is to get behind Cas (I mean, hello—AU Michael was a huge trauma for him), but he straightens up again almost immediately.
