For some reason, I woke up thinking about Elizabeth and the sort of physical dimension of the novel.

To back up a bit, Elizabeth's physicality as a character is pretty widely acknowledged. We know more about her appearance than that of any other character in the book, to begin with. She's the only character in P&P whose coloring we know anything about (she has beautiful dark eyes with fine eyelashes), while we repeatedly hear about her light figure, her summer tan, and her general attractiveness—she's not stunning, but pretty.

There's also a sense of physicality in terms of her actions and reactions. She habitually walks and runs. She blushes frequently; at Pemberley, before Darcy shows up, she blushes as she admits to knowing him, concedes that he's very handsome, and shortly thereafter blushes deeply again upon encountering Darcy himself. Her impression of Pemberley is powerfully affected by the physical features and aesthetic of it, more than by its grandeur. Upon meeting Georgiana, Elizabeth likes her but also can't seem to help noticing that Georgiana isn't as good-looking as Darcy. Later, when Darcy shows up in Hertfordshire with Bingley, Elizabeth blushes again, smiles with delight, and her eyes shine.

But something else I find interesting is that Elizabeth is also linked to physical things to some extent. There are the infamous muddy skirts that she drops her overskirt down to conceal. There's her book at Netherfield. She preserves Darcy's letter until their engagement and only destroys it for his peace of mind. She rushes to find her parasol for her confrontation with Lady Catherine. She wears a watch.

IDK, this isn't going anywhere in particular, but I find it interesting that we get this paraphernalia alongside a comparatively distinct sense of Elizabeth's physicality and how she interacts with the outside world. At the very least, I think the paraphernalia reinforces the sense of Elizabeth as a very physical presence in the world.

5/10 Oh you know she had such a huge collection when she lived in her grandfather's estate!! I don't think she would have had as bad a track record as with her shoes, but I do feel she would lost quite a few hats because of the wind lmao.

While on the run she can't really have anything but what she keeps on her person, and stuff like that would be stolen so fast 😞 But once she gets the chance to she more than happily buys some new hats. Woljif definitely tries to sell over priced stuff to her once he knows she's looking for something too smh

I don't think she'd ever have a huge collection again after running away, but she would definitely have a few hats and maybe a parasol when the idea comes to her once she has the security and money to!

I just saw your post on beating aai1 and first of all, congrats on getting thru turnabout ablaze because that is a hell of a slow case. It'd be so much better if it wasn't such a slog, but it just keeps dragging on forever so kudos for getting thru it lol

AAI2 is a LOT better though. Like the first game was good for introducing Lang and Kay but the second game really knocks it out of the park imo, I think you'd enjoy it

Lang was the only saving grace of Turnabout Ablaze for me . The only time I felt Anything aside from Annoyance or Boredom was when he was onscreen lmao . I like his silly Wolf Roleplay and how he's just a Good Boss who cares about his employees and their Birthdays 🎂 (So I'm Glad he comes back in the Future)

I hope Kay actually… Does Things, in the second game. Because to me, she just kind of ended up becoming Edgeworth's cheerleader? (especially during Turnabout Ablaze) Which I Was Not a fan of . I Guess I wished they made her more ... Robin Hood-like? For lack of a better term? And that she acted More of her own Accord. (And Actually Stole things instead of just Talking about it)

(Desperately hoping Edgeworth becomes more bearable in the second game though. I could not Stand him here Whatsoever although that may be a Hot Take 👻)
