Vapi Secures $20M Series A to Redefine Enterprise AI Voice Agents
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/vapi-secures-20m-series-a-to-redefine-enterprise-ai-voice-agents/
Vapi Secures $20M Series A to Redefine Enterprise AI Voice Agents
Vapi, founded in 2023 by CEO Jordan Dearsley and CTO Nikhil Gupta, has announced a $20 million Series A funding round led by Bessemer Venture Partners, alongside investments from Abstract Ventures, AI Grant, Y Combinator, Saga Ventures, and Michael Ovitz. As generative voice models rapidly approach human-level interaction—often passing a “voice Turing test”—enterprises need a platform that can help them seamlessly integrate these capabilities into their customer interactions, workflows, and services.
Vapi sets out to “bend the arc of technology back to the human voice” by giving developers the tools to deploy AI voice agents in minutes instead of months. This developer-first approach removes complexity, letting engineering teams focus on their core products. Through its flexible APIs and broad platform integrations, Vapi quickly transforms existing CRMs, EHRs, and telephony systems into immersive voice-enabled experiences.
Backed by Global Technology Investors
Bessemer Venture Partners, known for supporting innovative companies across various sectors—including Pinterest, Shopify, Twilio, Yelp, LinkedIn, and DocuSign—recognized Vapi’s unique potential from the start. With more than 145 IPOs and a portfolio of 300+ companies, Bessemer’s extensive track record and resources will help Vapi scale to meet global demand for advanced voice AI.
“We believe AI will fundamentally impact every vertical of the economy, with voice agents becoming a core interface for many applications,” said Byron Deeter, partner at Bessemer. “Vapi is emerging as the leading developer platform for conversational voice agents, redefining how people interact with technology.”
Rapid Growth and Widespread Adoption
In just six months since launching, Vapi scaled to millions in revenue by serving a diverse range of enterprises, from customer support and outbound sales to telehealth and food ordering. Companies like Mindtickle, Luma Health, Ellipsis Health, and Gestionadora de Créditos have harnessed Vapi to handle high call volumes seamlessly, demonstrate human-like responsiveness, and improve the overall caller experience.
This rapid market adoption reflects a growing need for AI voice agents that can scale without losing the warmth and nuance of the human voice. As Apple Intelligence and Google Gemini prepare to bring voice assistants to billions of people, Vapi ensures that developers have the infrastructure to keep up with this voice-first movement.
Developer-First Approach: Building Voice AI in Minutes
A core part of Vapi’s strategy is to empower developers. Instead of months spent piecing together complex systems, developers can now build, test, and deploy robust voice agents with low-latency response times and multilingual support.
Inbound and Outbound Calls: Handle inbound inquiries or set up outbound call campaigns at scale.
Voice Products and IoT: From SaaS support desks to IoT devices, Vapi’s stack plugs into numerous platforms.
Flexible Integration: Mix and match preferred speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and LLM providers.
No-Code and Server URL Quickstarts: Even teams with minimal voice AI experience can launch projects in a matter of minutes.
Driving Innovation Across Industries
Vapi’s adaptability makes it a fit for nearly any vertical:
Healthcare and Telehealth: Appointment scheduling, patient FAQs, and prescription refills managed by voice agents.
Travel and Hospitality: Reservations, bookings, and real-time customer queries handled in a natural, conversational style.
Finance and Insurance: Policy inquiries, claims assistance, and secure account actions executed at scale.
Retail and Food Services: Handling menu inquiries, order taking, and reservation confirmation seamlessly and efficiently.
According to CEO Jordan Dearsley, “Consumer-facing companies run on voice. To scale their revenue, they need to scale their voice operations. But, people don’t scale. With generative voice models, it’s flexible like a human and can scale to millions of calls.”
Technology That Speaks Like a Human
Under the hood, Vapi’s platform is built for performance and scalability:
Sub-500ms Latency: Achieve near-instant responses through optimized GPU inference, caching, and high-performance networking.
Natural Turn-Taking: Built-in interruption handling and endpointing models ensure voice agents listen and respond just like human operators.
Global Infrastructure: A Kubernetes-based architecture and private internet backbone enable high availability and low-latency performance worldwide.
“Vapi is far ahead of any other platform—simple, powerful, and it just works,” said Marcelo Oliveira, SVP of Engineering at Luma Health.
Scaling Infrastructure and Engineering Talent
With the new funding, Vapi will expand its engineering team to further strengthen its real-time infrastructure and onboard new enterprise customers. By investing in top technical talent, Vapi ensures that its developer tools continue to evolve, constantly improving reliability, functionality, and usability. The company’s ultimate aim is to make voice AI as accessible and dependable as any other API in a modern developer’s stack.
Industry Endorsements and Market Validation
The excitement around Vapi is evident through endorsements from customers and partners like Groq, Relevance AI, and Deepgram. They praise Vapi’s responsiveness, ease of integration, and developer-focused support. From real-time voice sales agents to advanced training simulations and multilingual chat, these testimonials highlight the platform’s versatility and potential to shape how enterprises use voice technology.
By removing the friction of building from scratch, Vapi lets developers concentrate on their unique business logic. “I spent time at Stripe in 2012 and I saw what it takes to design and support a great API. This team has that kind of magic,” said Richard Burton, CEO of Balance IO.
Bending the Arc Back to the Human Voice
Vapi’s mission is rooted in the idea that voice should once again become the default interface—a natural, human way to interact with technology. Through its flexible APIs, industry-leading latency, and developer-first approach, Vapi delivers voice AI capabilities that feel as natural and responsive as any human conversation.
With the $20 million Series A in hand, Vapi stands poised to usher in a future where voice agents are as common and reliable as web or mobile interfaces. As enterprises across the globe look to scale their voice operations, Vapi provides the platform, tools, and guidance to help them build it—all in a matter of minutes.

Jewish and Israeli Tumblr, I just can't deal with the USA anymore. We're on our tenth consecutive forever-year of stochastic politics. I feel like 2020 was 20 years ago at this point.
I'm tired.
I'll put all the justifications below the cut, but let me get right to my question: Olim & Natural-Born Israeli citizens: What can I expect from Aliyah? Is there a place for me? I want out of the USA.
I currently work as in IT asset management and procurement. Basically I just keep track of my employer's IT-related inventory (think paper, toner, laptops, and tablets), spec and purchase new devices as part of our IT lifecycle, prepare old assets for disposal through our e-waste vendor, and manage/deploy our new inventory when it comes in.
I know Israel has a booming tech sector, but I'm worried I won't make the cut. I'm not an impressive candidate. I have experience in IT but I'm not credentialed or anything. My academic background (Bachelor's) is in business.
Before my current job, I worked in QA software testing (APIs mostly), healthcare technology, and helpdesk (Tier 2). It's gotten me pretty far in the "firm handshake" economy of small town Texas, but I'm not sure it will get me far in the "real" IT world.
Does anyone have any advice for a prospective oleh who's coming from low-paying IT / IT-adjacent work in a low cost of living mid-sized Texan city? What are some good cities / towns to look at besides Jerusalem and Tel Aviv? Are there jobs for someone like me outside of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv?
I guess what I'm asking is whether Aliyah is a good economic decision for someone who doesn't already have money? Any olim here that could give me insights?
The ugly truth is this: The US is sliding into authoritarianism really quickly and I'm on the losing side. Sure there are supposed to be laws in place that will slow this down or mostly stop it, but the law only works if there's someone willing to enforce it and well... Can you name one person who has show the moral fortitude and is still in a position to do something?
To put it in more utilitarian terms: I'd rather be someplace where I'm unlikely to be scooped up and interrogated for being politically and ideologically incompatible with MAGA or whatever. They're already detaining Native Americans and Black Americans and trying to deport them. Bad things are coming, and I'd rather get out now while I still can.
It's not flattering for me to say, it reflects poorly on me, but it's honest: I'm no hero. I'm a coward and I'm not afraid to say it.

Also is there anything like. A phone widget that shows FL actions or an API I could use to make such a thing? The games energy system being so small is bad for my brain but being able to ping myself when I'm nearly full would be better than checking all the time
Alas, there's not any widget that I know of! There might be an API for it- I know a few exist for FL, though I play almost exclusively on the mobile browser, so I wouldn't have any experience with that myself.
There's not really any advice I can give besides simply getting used to the action economy and how it operates. It's by far the game's biggest hurdle in terms of onboarding, and it's one of the many reasons why FL isn't a game for everyone. It may sound like a moot point, but in my experience, the best I can say is just accepting that you need to take your time- Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was the Scoundrel, and neither will your own FL blorbo. Checking in hourly or bi-hourly is kind of the ultimate strategy to success as far as FL is concerned. Embrace the ability to step back for awhile. The Neath will still be there when you come back.
#ask#fallen london#there are access codes listed on the wiki that give free coffees (re; action refills) in a pinch#and you get one free refill in your opportunity deck every week#there are definitely tons of ways to manage ur actions! u just need to balance em#as i said. it's a big hurdle to adjust to for newer players. ive always stressed this probably isnt a game for everyone#but if u stick with it there's something really special in it i think. at least in my own experience. as im sure yall are surprised by#ive just been so subtle abt it#also setting up a timer or mixing in playing FL with some other task might help?#mix the scoundrel in with doing ur dishes. it's a foolproof strategy that has definitely not made me mentally ill#not in the slightest

The Nation-State of California, the world’s fifth or sixth largest economy (depending on who’s talking and what week it is), is suing some of the biggest players in the oil industry for damages caused by climate change, arguing that Big Oil knew for decades that burning fossil fuels would have catastrophic effects on the planet’s climate, but that the industry conducted a “decades-long campaign of deception” to protect its profits, causing tens of billions of damage in California alone. This could be HUGE.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed the suit Friday in state court in Sacramento, against oil giants Exxon Mobil, Shell, Chevron (which is headquartered in California), ConocoPhillips, and the oil industry trade group, the American Petroleum Institute (API), that oily hive of scum and villainy.

Excerpt from this story from the Union of Concerned Scientists:
The U.S. oil and gas industry has sounded its mating call to the incoming Presidential administration with a policy wish list remarkable for its unabated pursuit of profits and defiance of climate science and economic trends.
The American Petroleum Institute (API) released a “policy roadmap” addressed to President-elect Donald Trump on November 12 outlining five “actions” he can take to bolster their agenda. However, the “actions”—given euphemistic titles like “protect consumer choice”—actually aim to roll back science-based environmental protections in order to maximize already massive profits. The policy details within each action roughly correspond with recommendations in Project 2025, the infamous policy agenda penned in part by figures from the first Trump administration and supported by several anti-climate organizations.
Here’s a breakdown of the roadmap’s requests along with an explanation of how they would roll back environmental progress.
API’s anti-environment entreaties
Fight clean cars. API’s first policy proposal is repealing rules designed to support the shift to electric vehicles that the oil and gas industry has fought for decades. API specifically targets Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules to reduce carbon emissions from automobile tailpipes and fuel economy standards established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. API also targets an EPA waiver for a 2022 California rule that would reduce pollution from new gasoline-powered cars while increasing sales requirements for zero-emission vehicles.
Pump up gas. The second policy proposal is to reinstate permitting of liquified natural gas (LNG), also known as methane, a fossil fuel that is a potent source of global warming emissions. The Biden administration temporarily paused pending approvals for new LNG export authorizations in January 2024, citing the need to update the review process to best reflect impacts on climate, domestic energy prices, and health—especially as borne by frontline communities.
Reverse protections for public land and health. The third policy proposal focuses on federal lands that API believes should be opened up to drilling, both onshore and offshore. It recommends repealing a Bureau of Land Management rule that would put conservation on equal footing with drilling and ranching as a legal use of public lands, in addition to adding more leasing opportunities from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s offshore leasing program. But the most blatantly anti-climate demand in this area would repeal a Congressionally approved fee on every metric ton of methane that high-emitting oil and gas facilities produce above specific levels. The oil and gas industry is responsible for 30 percent of human-caused methane emissions.
Muzzle environmental reviews. The fourth policy proposal involves the federal permitting process, a perennial enemy of the fossil fuel industry. The statute in their crosshairs is the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), which the industry has fought since it was signed into law by Republican President Richard Nixon in the 1970s. API and Project 2025 sing from the same sheet in their NEPA-related demands, which would curtail scientific and environmental reviews, limit public notice and comment, and block access to the courts.
Preserve industry giveaways. API finishes off its wish list with requests to preserve fossil fuel industry tax breaks that cost taxpayers some $3 billion each year, regardless of how much they’re currently paying at the pump.

Lori Ann Larocco at CNBC:
Billions in trade came to a screeching halt at U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast ports after members of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) began walking off the job after 12:01 a.m. ET on October 1. The ILA is North America’s largest longshoremen’s union, with roughly 50,000 of its 85,000 members making good on the threat to strike at 14 major ports subject to a just-expired master contract with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX), and picketing workers beginning to appear at ports. The union and port ownership group failed to reach agreement by midnight on a new contract in a protracted battle over wage increases and use of automation. In a last-ditch effort on Monday to avert a strike that will cause significant harm to the U.S. economy if it is lengthy — at least hundreds of millions of dollars a day at the largest ports like New York/New Jersey — the USMX offered a nearly 50% wage hike over six years, but that was rejected by the ILA, according to a source close to the negotiations. The port ownership group said it hoped the offer would lead to a resumption of collective bargaining.
The 14 ports where preparations for a strike have been underway are Boston, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Wilmington, North Carolina, Baltimore, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, New Orleans, Mobile, and Houston. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement issued shortly after midnight that “the first large-scale eastern dockworker strike in 47 years began at ports from Maine to Texas, including at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In preparation for this moment, New York has been working around the clock to ensure that our grocery stores and medical facilities have the essential products they need.” Rhetoric from ILA leadership has been aggressive in the weeks leading up to the strike, with ILA president Harold Daggett, who was a union member the last time it went out on strike in 1977, telling rank-and-file members — who unanimously voted to authorize a strike — in a recent video message, “We’ll crush them.”
[...] The most significant issues would be faced by food and automobile industries, Kamins said, as they rely especially heavily on the ports that will be shut down. While a surge in inflation is highly unlikely even with a longer strike, even a modest reacceleration could create uncertainty and force the Federal Reserve to be more cautious about lowering interest rates, which would weigh on the overall outlook for job growth and investment. A one-week strike could cost the U.S. economy $3.78 billion, according to an analysis by The Conference Board, and cause supply chain slowdowns through mid-November. In all, the ports threatened with strikes handle $3 trillion annually in U.S. annual international trade.
Many industries are preparing for major repercussions. Noushin Shamsili, CEO and president of Nuco Logistics, which specializes in pharmaceutical imports and exports, said the strike comes at a critical time for inventory replenishment for the pharma sector. “Almost all of this industry is just on time,” said Shamsili. “Raw materials are being brought in to complete drug manufacturing. Medical supplies for clinics and hospitals are on these vessels. For a while importers did not bring in a lot of cargo because they were overflowing with supplies post-Covid. Now they have started reordering medical devices, gloves, syringes, and tubing.” Shamsili also said the East Coast ports are a gateway for generic medicine made in India. Approximately 48% of the active pharmaceutical ingredients used in the U.S. are being imported from India. Without these APIs, medications cannot be produced. APIs are also manufactured in Europe, which also use the East Coast ports as U.S. points of entry.
[...] The Biden administration finds itself in a delicate political moment, with the presidential election one month away and President Biden vowing he will not use existing labor law to force union workers back on the job, which is within his powers under the Taft-Hartley Act. The Taft-Hartley Act, passed in 1947, was a revision of U.S. law governing labor relations and union activity that granted a U.S. president the power to suspend a strike for an 80-day “cooling off period” in cases where “national health or safety” are at risk.
Today begins the strike along East Coast and Gulf Coast ports after International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) members walked off their jobs.
This strike, depending on how long it lasts, could have a major impact on the elections and the economy.

Unlocking the Secrets to Effortless Compliance with ZATCA Phase 2
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is leading the way in digital transformation, especially with its structured e-invoicing initiatives. A significant part of this movement is ZATCA Phase 2, which aims to enhance transparency, boost efficiency, and ensure tax compliance across businesses.
If you are a business owner, accountant, or IT professional, understanding ZATCA Phase 2 is no longer optional. It is critical for ensuring that your operations remain compliant and future-ready. This guide breaks down everything you need to know in a simple, easy-to-understand manner.
What Is ZATCA Phase 2?
ZATCA Phase 2, also known as the Integration Phase, is the next major step following Saudi Arabia's Phase 1 e-invoicing requirements. While Phase 1 focused on the generation of electronic invoices, Phase 2 moves beyond that.
It requires businesses to integrate their e-invoicing systems with ZATCA’s Fatoora platform, allowing real-time or near-real-time transmission of invoices for clearance and validation.
This phase ensures that each invoice issued meets strict technical, security, and data format requirements set by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA).
Key Objectives Behind ZATCA Phase 2
Understanding the "why" behind Phase 2 can help businesses see it as an opportunity rather than a burden. The main goals include:
Improving tax compliance across all sectors
Minimizing fraud and manipulation of invoices
Streamlining government audits with real-time data
Promoting a transparent digital economy
Enhancing business operational efficiency
Who Needs to Comply?
All businesses registered for VAT in Saudi Arabia must comply with ZATCA Phase 2 regulations. This includes:
Large enterprises
Medium and small businesses
Businesses using third-party billing service providers
Companies operating across multiple sectors
Even if your business operates primarily offline, if you are VAT registered, you need to be compliant.
Important Requirements for ZATCA Phase 2
Compliance with ZATCA Phase 2 is not just about sending electronic invoices. It involves specific technical and operational steps. Here’s what your business needs:
1. E-Invoicing System with ZATCA Compliance
Your billing or accounting system must:
Issue invoices in XML or PDF/A-3 with embedded XML
Securely store invoices electronically
Incorporate UUIDs (Unique Identifiers) for each invoice
Attach a QR code for simplified verification
2. Integration with ZATCA Systems
Businesses must establish a secure Application Programming Interface (API) connection with ZATCA’s platform to allow the real-time sharing of invoice data.
3. Cryptographic Stamp
Each invoice must carry a cryptographic stamp. This verifies the invoice's authenticity and integrity.
4. Archiving
Invoices must be securely archived and retrievable for at least six years in case of audits or regulatory reviews.
Implementation Timeline for ZATCA Phase 2
ZATCA is rolling out Phase 2 gradually, targeting businesses in waves based on their annual revenues:
Wave 1: Businesses with annual revenues above SAR 3 billion (started January 1, 2023)
Wave 2: Revenues above SAR 500 million (started July 1, 2023)
Future Waves: Gradually extending to smaller businesses
Each business is officially notified by ZATCA at least six months before their compliance date, giving them time to prepare.
How to Prepare for ZATCA Phase 2: A Step-by-Step Guide
The good news is that with proper planning, adapting to ZATCA Phase 2 can be straightforward. Here’s a simple preparation roadmap:
Step 1: Review Your Current Systems
Audit your existing accounting and invoicing solutions. Identify whether they meet Phase 2’s technical and security standards. In most cases, upgrades or new software may be required.
Step 2: Select a ZATCA-Approved Solution Provider
Look for software vendors that are pre-approved by ZATCA and offer:
Seamless API integration
Cryptographic stamping
XML invoice generation
Real-time data reporting
Step 3: Integration Setup
Collaborate with IT teams or third-party service providers to set up a secure connection with the Fatoora platform.
Step 4: Employee Training
Ensure that relevant departments, such as finance, IT, and compliance, are trained to manage new invoicing processes and troubleshoot any issues.
Step 5: Test Your Systems
Conduct dry runs and testing phases to ensure that invoices are being properly cleared and validated by ZATCA without delays or errors.
Step 6: Go Live and Monitor
Once your system is ready and tested, begin issuing invoices according to Phase 2 standards. Regularly monitor compliance, system errors, and feedback from ZATCA.
Common Challenges and How to Overcome Them
Businesses often encounter several challenges during their Phase 2 preparation. Awareness can help you avoid them:
Integration Difficulties: Solve this by partnering with experienced ZATCA-compliant vendors.
Employee Resistance: Overcome this with proper training and clear communication on the benefits.
Technical Errors: Regular testing and quick troubleshooting can help prevent issues.
Lack of Budget Planning: Allocate a specific budget for compliance early to avoid unexpected costs.
Preparation is not just technical. It’s organizational as well.
Benefits of Early Compliance with ZATCA Phase 2
Early compliance does more than just prevent penalties:
Improves Financial Reporting Accuracy: Real-time clearance ensures clean records.
Builds Market Trust: Clients and partners prefer businesses that follow regulatory norms.
Enhances Operational Efficiency: Automated invoicing processes save time and reduce errors.
Boosts Competitive Advantage: Staying ahead in compliance projects an image of professionalism and reliability.
Businesses that proactively adapt to these changes position themselves as industry leaders in the evolving Saudi economy.
Conclusion
ZATCA Phase 2 is not just a regulatory requirement. It’s an opportunity to upgrade your operations, improve financial accuracy, and enhance business credibility.
By understanding the requirements, preparing strategically, and partnering with the right solution providers, your business can turn this challenge into a growth opportunity.
The sooner you act, the smoother your transition will be. Compliance with ZATCA Phase 2 is your gateway to becoming part of Saudi Arabia’s dynamic digital economy.
