At a certain point blaming the school system for failing to teach you every fact becomes an excuse to absolve yourself from learning on your own time as an adult. Maybe you had bad teachers and curricula, maybe you never did the assigned reading, maybe you were taught propaganda, but it’s okay to start now. It’s okay to learn geography from online games. It’s okay to get entry level books from the library on a subject. It’s okay to explore Wikipedia and other reputable websites as a start. You can learn as an adult. You should continue learning as an adult.

#If I see one more post blaming the school system for people not knowing things that are either - basic and they didn’t retain or -niche and #not something that would have been relevant for most curriculums I’m gonna lose it #so you’re bad at geography ??? TRY. there are GAMES #don’t know history??? there are so many resources in different formats and access levels #bc of 2020 there are so many college lectures recorded on YouTube you can watch #there are daily games you can play to slowly learn #you don’t need to ADVERTISE your ignorance of things either #predicting that the notes on this will be annoyin #also there are many valid critiques of Wikipedia but at least it cites its sources which is more than most ‘educational’ tiktoks

When my peers/students I tutor say to me "oh I only use chatgpt to make outlines" I don't know how to explain to them that outlining is also a skill that you should cultivate. Organization matters just as much as content. Like I guess I could just say that and sometimes I do but I think we live on different planets atp

#im graduating so this isnt my problem or business anymore but. i worry about the kids coming in #although I did apply for a full-time job as a writing tutor in a nearby public school system and i REALLY hope i least get an interview #if they ask about AI that's my tutoring ethos. im not here to villainize AI as a whole because #1) its a broad term with lots w different applications and 2) i think it might just drive kids further away #my main concern is that they learn to DO things like research organize and write because its a lifelong skill and its good for their brains #who knows where AI will go what regulations will be passed or how accessible it will be in the future. but you'll always have your mind #if i can get that point across to a few kids while they're still learning then i'll be happy

Morrotober,day 1

Summary:Young Morro tries to understand what his power is.

(Morro here isn't referred to by name because I hc it to take place before he got a name he liked)

He has powers. That's what sensei said when he saw the boy flying the kite. His teacher had explained it then. Apparently the boy had elemental powers. He likely inherited them from his parents whom he neither remembered nor wanted. He had a home now. He had sensei Wu. He didn't need anything else.

"I believe it is air you control,young one." had sensei said when the boy asked, but that sounded wrong. He didn't control. The power he wielded wasn't a puppet for him to pull the strings at. It felt like...he wasn't sure. He couldn't name it. It was a language of whispers and movements to direct the flow, it was a conversation only he and the breeze could understand. How was he supposed to explain that?

What he spoke with couldn't be air. It wasn't his until he willed it to move, because otherwise air was still. Air didn't move and he didn't speak with the air. He spoke with the breeze that always accomponied him, that played with his hair and caressed his face, the breeze that was never still.

He didn't say anything of it until he read the book his sensei gave him. Of hurricanes, storms, flow of air. Of the atmosphere and space void of the air he didn't control.

"To better understand your element, you must understand how it's the part of the world. How it affects others. Your's, air, is everywhere and so, you bear great power that you must wield responsibly."

Together they read it, sensei Wu explaining all the small boy couldn't understand.It was in one of those times that he finally found an answer.

"Wind is the movement of the air that happens due to-"

"Sensei?"

"Yes?"

"I'm not a master of air. I think I'm the master of...wind."

specialized education and gifted children programs are so fucked up I see the purpose but the execution and expectations are genuinely horrific I've yet to meet a single one of us that's doing okay besides from those who just reached their breaking point and chose to stop caring

#gifted kid burnout #It's so fucked up the emotional stress levels we're normalizing and the expectations to do the best and be the best when everyone #Has been told they're the best and special #Middle school high school college etc should be learning times yes and expose you to new things #The opportunities provided are wonderful and its really cool how many programs you can have access to #But the competition and stress shoved into a relatively short time period isn't productive for helping kids learn and try new things #Especially since they're expected to be a fully functioning adult afterwords with little to no prioritization of information #That could help with that transition #I'm very frustrated with the American education system I don't know enough about other countries education to comment on theirs #Cue rambles #ESPECIALLY NEURODIVERGENT PEOPLE OH MY GOD #I would like to say something about that but I want to do more research on that besides from me just speaking from experience and people #Around me

#anntics #these geography quizzes have had me thinking #I really am missing a lot of information about the world. like in general.#I didn't learn any of this in high school. like. history. geography. social studies. etc.#I don't mean in a ''failings of the us educational system'' way I mean in a ''years of intense educational neglect'' way #I didn't go to middle or high school and was not provided with adequate materials or environment to learn #I lived in a remote area with my family and only left to go to church #and it's really only recently gotten to me like. HOW bad that was.#like yeah I forged a transcript and got a good ACT score and lied my way into and through college #I have a degree and I do feel like I earned that #but there is a broad base of knowledge that was offerred to (though not necessarily accepted by) the Average American Teenager #and I just. didn't have access to it.#I straight up didn't get an education between 11 and 18 years old. of course that affected me. why didn't I realize that until now.#anyway. all of this to say. I think I'm going to find resources to learn all of this shit now.

if firebenders learnt to go beyond lightning, which is static electricity, to electricity itself they'd be unstoppable. during a sozins comet, they could prolly manipulate the electrical impulses in one's body and finally harness an ability on par with the water benders deadly blood bending

#water bending in its sub bending form is more accessible and flexible to range of water benders with varying skill progression #and this idea would be limited to those who are absolutely prodigal in their lightning bending #but hey #a fire bender toph hasn't happened yet so who knows #fire may be an element of chaos but those who world lightning need the principle of discipline to harness its volatility #so learn enougj discipline and they could even lay command over people's entire nervous system #i have so many typos im sorry IM STILL SICK WITH A FLU

hm... probably sign language..!! though its not something that will be necessary in my career, you never know if you'll have a deaf/hard of hearing customer in a part-time job leading up to said career..!!

i just found out my friend is taking sign language in university and i am Jealous because my uni doesn't offer them..!!! i would've definitely went for it if i had the opportunity, i just think it's a fucken awesome language.
