Regulus walks out of the door as soon as he hears the car pull by their house. He was lucky enough to get out of work sooner than usual today, so he is looking forward to spending the whole afternoon with his boyfriend. Maybe they can go for a movie or a lovely walk. There is an art exhibition in the town he wanted to visit. James is just walking around the car and is about to open the boot of their car when Regulus approaches him.

“Hello, mon amour.” He greets him cheerfully. He expects James to smile at him and kiss him as always. He certainly doesn’t expect James to jump in surprise with panic in his eyes.

“Regulus. You are home early.” James says quickly.

“Yeah? I was done for today so…” He eyes his boyfriend suspiciously. James squirms under his gaze. He leans against the back of their car, trying to look nonchalant, but Regulus knows better. There is a moment of silence between them. It’s a waiting game Regulus always wins. James doesn’t have strong willpower, so it never does him take long before he spills whatever he has done this time.

The silence is broken by a low meow coming from the car. James’ gaze quickly shifts from Regulus to the car and right back. Regulus is trying hard to fight the smile that’s tugging at the corners of his lips.

“James?”

“Yes?” So, we are playing this game Regulus thinks.

“Why is our car meowing?”

“I have no idea what you are talking about.” James lies and closes his eyes in defeat when the car meows again and doesn’t stop.

“HmMmm…” Regulus softly pushes James out of the way to open the boot. Inside there is a huge safe car cage with not one but three cats. They are looking at Regulus with the same surprise as Regulus is looking at them. After the initial shock, he turns to James and raises his eyebrows.

“I have no clue how they got there.” He says and Regulus gives him an unimpressed look. “But if I had to take a wild guess, I would say that maybe somebody stopped by the shelter today because their boyfriend said a few times already that he wanted to get a cat. And maybe the cats were too cute that the person couldn’t leave them there.” James gives him a sheepish smile.

“I said I wanted a cat as a one.”

“But Reggie, they were friends already. And I can’t just take one away from their friends.” He wraps one arm around Regulus' side tugging him closer. “So, you see I had no other option than take all of them.” And Regulus can’t fight a smile spread on his lips, because James looks so happy, and Regulus would be dammed if he would spoil it for him. And frankly, the cats look cute, and Regulus is sure they will give them the perfect home.

“But we don’t have anything for them here,” Regulus says in a worried voice and James beams at him. He pulls him in for a quick kiss before he turns them around to face the boot again.

“If you may shift your gaze a little to the right, I bought something. But we can go shopping together again later.” Regulus spots the big bags full of toys and other necessities including three big cat beds. He laughs. Regulus truly wanted a cat for a long time now, he already searched for these big sets of shelves you can put on your wall, so they have a place to play. He has to order it tonight.

“Yeah, okay.” He says and crawls inside the car boot to meet their new roommates. As he lets the brave cat climb into his lap he looks back at his boyfriend. James is looking at him with so much love that Regulus feels his cheeks redden a little bit. “Thank you.” He whispers and scratches the cat behind its ear.

From a shelter or "Free Kittens" If you went to a place or organization that cares for multiple stray, surrendered, and otherwise staff-less cats. Doesn't matter if there was a fee or not. Also choose this option of you adopted a cat from someone who had "unwanted" kittens. Doesn't matter if your shelter cat or free kitten happens to be a pure breed. This is also the right option if your cat came from someone who could no longer keep them and they asked you to take the cat. From a breeder If you purchased the cat from a person who raises a particular kind of cat, or if you were gifted the cat by someone who breeds particular kinds of cats.

The cat found me If the cat followed you home, or just lived in your neighborhood and started showing up, or was already living in the building when you moved in-- that is, the cat had some agency in finding you. (I want to know how true That Comic by @sarahseeandersen is.)

Bad news and good news both.

So I didn’t really speak of it while it was happening as it was really traumatic, but we said goodbye to one of our tuxedo kittens a while back, just shy of 2 years old. He swallowed a string and went through surgery (the cost was insane but if you bring an animal into your home and you have the means to help them, we felt we should) but passed from sepsis a few hours later. This little guy was one of the best cats we’ve ever had, even for a buddy named Havoc. Which he definitely caused in funny and dumb ways especially. This is him in my favourite picture of the guy:

He will 100% be missed and cherished in our memories. We wept and mourned and blamed ourselves and forgave ourselves some, and then decided to do what we always do: get another cat so that our remaining kitten, Leia, wouldn’t be alone (it was her brother we lost).

We set out with the aim of one. We came back with two! We’re still not 100% on the names but they came to us as Patti and Maple, respectively. Aren’t they beautiful?? And their purrs are just so… so soothing. Here they are!

You cannot replace the love you gave to a missing pet, because that love remains with you. The heart, and love, is infinite. I look forward to loving these two as well. ❤️

Got two cats coming to my home tonight who were in danger of being “dumped” - Not sure how this will work out

We feed 4 cats outside. They like to visit inside for a few minutes at a time but only for a few minutes - they’re all fixed - I trapped them myself and Trap Dat Cat in New Orleans handled the rest. (Awesome organization - they do good work)

But we haven’t had an indoor cat since my girl passed last summer.

Feeling a little anxious about it all and when the anxiety kicks in I have trouble doing just about anything.

just a lil guy. they are just large enough to fit in the palm of someone's hand.

editing to add: i think this post is done blowing up now that it's been a few months, but i'm glad people really liked this design. the inspiration for it was me mixing up my internal image of a "bottle brush" (i thought they were pipecleaners - they are not) and imagining one as an animal living in a bottle. that idea actually came from my friend, who suggested it to me (the idea of a "bottle brush animal"). that, and the little craft animals i made in school out of pipecleaners as a kid.

my friend is the one with the magnificent mind. but i'm pretty good at bringing ideas to life!

I just rewatched The Giggle (again...) and I know others have already said it, but Fourteen's happy ending being a normal life with his best friend and her family rather than with a romantic partner means the universe to me. I'm not sure I've ever seen found family be the happy end for any adult character without there being an element of romance to it before and it is beautiful
