Agatha's quiet pleading here is killing me. Mouth agape, she shakes her head. Agatha knows why Rio (Death) is here, she feels it, yet, her disbelief is clear, and she still holds hope Rio won't do it.

But then, Rio takes a first step towards her, and then another. The next shot shows Agatha realising that Rio is going to take their/her child. The only person who has ever loved her is going to take away the little being Agatha already loves with her entire heart and soul...

It's no wonder Agatha's defences went up right after. In her eyes, from the moment Death took those steps towards her, Rio chose her job over Agatha and Nicky. From that moment on, something broke between them.

my niece just started her biting phase and i can't get the idea out of my head of baby nicky nibbling on people's faces whenever he gets close enough. just imagine agatha telling rio off for something or disagreeing with her and rio lifts nicky close to agatha's face and tells him to bite

My little brain enjoying the characters I have made up, even though I won’t write them at this age and stuff. The second ‘Scratch’ child is born in March 2026, they get a reputation as being the weird kid pretty quick. I love the idea that like Mami they can’t/don’t lie which means there are interactions like this:

Kid: I didn’t think you had any siblings

Scratch kid #2: I didn’t know him, but I had a brother. He died when he was six.

Kid: omg! I didn’t know that, that’s horrible, was it an accident or..?

Scratch kid #2: No, he probably had TB

Kid:… I didn’t think people got that anymore. Did you meet him, like were you a baby when he died- how many years are there between you…?

Scratch kid #2: Oh no, I was born a lot later, Mama was a bit older when they had me. I think it’s a difference of… 267 years.

Kid: *frozen in total confusion*… wait, what?

Snowed In

Agatha / Rio E rated TW: baby loss, fertility issues Summary: Agatha gets snowed in at her estranged wife/co-parent's house.

Agatha had paused before sending the text, but with a roll of her eyes she had done it anyway. Reading it back over only made the decision seem all the more reasonable and she tossed her phone onto the kitchen counter.

It immediately began to ring.

Agatha let out a frustrated growl before retrieving it. She cursed when she saw, as expected, her estranged wife’s caller ID.

“Hello,” she shook back her hair and adjusted her sweater.

“Agatha,” Rio’s even tone replied.

Agatha swallowed in the pause that Rio had created. “You got my text.”

“It’s barely snowing.”

“The Weather Channel is talking about a snowstorm of the decade,” Agatha reported with the same wonderstruck intonation as the newscaster.

“And if you leave now, you’ll have time to make the round trip.” Rio reasoned.

“And what if-”

“I know what you’re doing.” Rio’s even tone was gone and it caught Agatha off guard. “This is not what we agreed to.”

Agatha swallowed. There was nothing Rio could prove. There was a pending travel advisory and if that just so happened to mean Nicky had to stay another night or two with her, it wasn’t her fault now, was it? “I’m not doing any-”

“Yes. You. Are.”

Agatha inhaled deeply before answering.

“Fine. I’ll get him ready to go.”

“Thank you,” came Rio’s clipped response. “I’ll see you both soon.”

Paley Fest was Amazing! Also, in Honor of Rio confirmed as Nickys other parents AGAIN, here's a new chapter ;) Agatha Harknesss will always be a lesbian <3 If you really don't get it it's a magic strap or magic fingers.

This chapter is about Agatha talking Rio down from something important. :) enjoy. They're growing I'm so proud. The sext-its continue.

Highlights of paley: Debra Jo stole the show. My wife crutched in between the actors and i was behind her with my walker lol. Thank you to the people who cheered for my wife that was so funny and too sweet "Go crutches girl you got this!" I love you you made her night ha ha. Because we had to use the elevator we walked by Sasheer and girl is SO PRETTY UP CLOSE. We made eye contact then were like awkwardly pretending to not be distracted walking throughlol. Ali talking about mommy issues was great. Kathryn making a face understanding that. Sasheer being a BOSS and maybe a plant for dropping Nicky's parents. Jac confirming Nickys other mom is rio and Kathryn saying they DIDNT NEED DADS -- i swear i need this clip for all my socials it healed my daddy trauma lol. more at bottom.

COntinued. uh, Kathryn dressed in rio green and in Agnes hair! The weirdness of Dolby theater being in a mall and parking 5 levels underground and getting a migraine. Watching an episode on such a big screan with the dolby surround sound was nuts. Omg the queer and gay energy in that room and on stage was magic. THe room was so narrow but so tall! tried so hard to watch the people and not the big screen . took just a few photos that i'm posting on my socials. Pinkpillow19 on twitter, grainsofexcellence on tumblr, realkelpy IG, maybe some tiktok under realkelpy. If anyone finds a video of my wife crutching through please let me know i know she would die to see it lol. oh the grand starecase in the dolby theater was cool. i took a few photos of the theater itself im posting too. Its where the oscars are at every year so that was wild it didnt look like enough space. Loved that they brought up AUbrey multiple times and gave her props loved that Kathryn was so giving to the other actors always letting them answer first and sharing the spotlight. The way she was petting the chair and her leg was very distracting in the beginning tho lol. Went home after and our friends we were staying with continued watching Agatha for the first time so we got more Agatha after paley! The red carpet inside in a basement was sureal. shoutout to the worker who helped our accomodations with the kick ass colorful "attention" glasses! I'll add more if I think of things :) Thanks for reading my little story and showing it love as well!

I love seeing people come up with huge families for Agatha and Rio, it is really cute (not for me, but cute). BUT honestly, I think it is probably best for those two to not have children anymore. I think Nicky was enough, and I think where they're at as people, they're best as gay aunts.

It's the way Nicky reacted to Rio. The way he wasn't scared or even surprised like he knew her. The way she only nodded and he immediately understood that she was telling him to say goodbye to his mom. Like she'd been visiting him regularly before taking him. Like she's been preparing him. Like she's been parenting him. Like she's been loving him in secret because if Agatha saw her sniffing around him she would have lashed out. But Rio couldn't stay away from Nicky. And he left the road in peace with Death's hand in his.

Nicky's Rio son too.

I feel there were so many lines that imply this and the finale is starting to make more sense - especially because the dandelion in the trial!

Jen explains that Green Craft™ is about the cycle of all living things - growth and decay in constant flow. So it's not just about dying but being born too.

So it would track that Rio's love for Agatha was so strong that it actually created life - Nicky. However, there would be consequences to this because proper balance had to be maintained somehow. Rio probably even warned Agatha about it, but Agatha always believes she is above the rules so in her head she probably thought she had every right to Nicky (maybe even her "prize" that she alludes to in their final confrontation). This would really add to Rio's hurt - Nicky was her son too. She thought she was giving Agatha a gift of life, but instead Agatha sees her as this cruel "evil" that "gave her nothing". To her Rio is the one who just "took."

It feels like it is also implied by Rio at the start of the episode when she says "This walk with another woman's son on a road that doesn't...". She could be referring to Nicky being her son.

But I think Agatha finally accepts her truth during the final trial when she sees the dandelion seed in her cameo. She even says "Out of Death - life" as she grows it because she finally understands the literal implications of that phrase.

That Dandelion is representation of Nicky. And sure enough, as soon as the flower grows and blossoms, it quickly enters the final stage - when it turns into the seeds that can be scattered by the wind again and continue the cycle of life. Because guess what, "dandelions produce seeds asexually by apomixis, where the seeds are produced without pollination, resulting in offspring that are genetically identical to the parent plant".

When Nicky is born, we could probably assume it was indeed asexual reproduction - Agatha says she didn't use a spell or incantation, but instead he was made from scratch (obviously a clever nod to his name). On one hand it could be read like Agatha is astonished how something this magical could happen without actually using any witchcraft. However, this also feels like a suggestion that maybe she is just amazed at how he could possibly exist. Kathryn Hahn in her recent interview alluded to how the witches didn't need men, babies were just born. So it was Rio's "dandelion seed" that made it happen.

It is the second characteristic of dandelion species is what seals the deal for me - "the offspring being genetically identical to the parent plant". Nicky as the offspring of Death needs bodies to survive in this realm. During his birth Rio says she can offer only time, because she can maintain the balance, as long as Nicky gets his bodies.

That's why she hates Rio and calls her evil - not because of Rio herself, but because of what her "genetics" did to Nicky. Agatha would rather have people believe that she is this evil witch killer that traded her child for the Darkhold, than anyone to know the awful truth that it was Nicky who was the cause of the killings.

In the flashbacks, there are those remarks about how they haven't "eaten for days" and that whenever Nicky was poorly he said he was hungry. Agatha said she couldn't create the food for him (and protect him from what's coming). She could've cooked that goat they had with them if they were really that hungry (btw, I still believe that goat is Senor Scratchy), but that wasn't the "food" that Nicky meant.

And just like Billy, Rio couldn't just take Nicky. He had to "turn himself in". It was his choice not to kill any more witches. On the day Nicky dies, he says "My mother needs me home". I think he is talking about Rio here, since he usually calls Agatha "Mama". This is the moment the decides for himself and goes home to Death.

I feel like this opens the possibility that we will indeed see Nicholas Scratch in the future (and have a role similar to the one in the comics). That maybe even he might not have "died" because he is an offspring of death, so he just exists in some Underworld realm, where he no longer needs bodies to survive. Maybe Agatha might have hoped that by killing more and more witches, she will bring Nicky back to life/this realm?

And the Ballad really was a protection spell she made for him too?

This would also be a more plausible explanation why Agatha went to kiss Rio when Billy asked "Is this how Nicky died?". I feel this was more of an apology to Rio for hating her for Nicky's treatment, because she finally understood why she had to do it?

Chapter 4: Snowed In

“But did you see him eat?” Agatha was insisting on the phone. “Sometimes he just pulls the hay out.”

Rio rolled her eyes. She had to pity Alice. Caring for Señor Scratchy under Agatha’s micromanagement was a nightmare. When they first started dating Rio had fed him a treat whole without breaking it up and she did not hear from Agatha again for two days.

“Yes, well, can you actually watch him eat the pellets?” Agatha continued, giving no sign she had noticed Rio enter the room. “I should be back tomorrow morning,” Agatha continued. “You won’t need to worry about the morning herbs.”

“Alice following orders?” Rio asked as Agatha hung up.

Agatha shook her head. “I swear to god if Señor Scratchy goes into GI stasis-”

“He won’t,” Rio cut her off. “The real danger is your house plants.”

Agatha’s anxiety dropped immediately as she fixed Rio with a glare. “Very funny. You know I wouldn’t keep-”

“I know, I know,” Rio knew fine well that Agatha would not keep toxic houseplants. They had learned their lesson once at 1am on a Friday night. Rio had left the bedroom in search of a post-coital snack and left the kitchen door open behind her. When Agatha had returned to fetch a glass of water she had found Señor Scratchy munching on the monstera. Señor Scratchy had frozen, clearly aware that this delicious treat was out of bounds and had scarpered across the wooden flooring. It had been an emergency trip to the vet, who was not a fan of stubborn rabbits, and then they had spent the night trying to feed Señor Scratchy activated charcoal every 2 hours. Rio had silently thought what she suspected the vet was also thinking: the tiny amount of leaf that had been nibbled was probably not enough to do any harm, but she wasn’t about to say that to Agatha who loved this little bunny with her whole heart. And so, she sat up with Agatha, forcing the syringe of activated charcoal into his mouth while Agatha held him still. Agatha had exiled the monstera to the greenhouse the very next day.

Rio was next to her now, their elbows brushing as they looked out the window. Another gentle flurry of snow was falling. There had been no question of Señor Scratchy staying when Agatha left. He was Agatha’s bunny, though Rio would be lying if she said she did not miss him. He like dawn, like her. They had often spent the mornings together, Rio brewing coffee while Señor Scratchy ran zoomies around the living room before flopping in his favourite spot under the couch.

“How is he doing?” Rio asked, fixing her eyes out on the snow.

“He’s good.” Agatha answered. “He’s on some anti-arthritics, more preventative than anything.” Rio nodded. She never liked to say, but Señor Scratchy was really getting on in years. In fact he had been for the last few years, but Agatha refused to see him that way.

“Nicky’s asking for hot chocolate, would you like some?”
