My article about Scott Pilgrim's references!
It has been posted! Go read it! I spent a few days on it.
If I missed anything, please let me know. I couldn't stretch it into like 20 or so, so I went with 15.

Review: Lonely Castle in the Mirror
Tumblr media
What do you do when school is no longer a safe place? For thirteen-year-old Kokoro Anzai, the answer is simple: you step through your bedroom mirror and accept the Wolf Queen’s invitation to find refuge in her lonely castle. Only, when Kokoro does this, she discovers that there are unexpected strings attached and also that she is not the only one to have followed the wolfish Alice through the looking glass. Six others await her in the castle’s grand entrance, each carrying his or her own burdens from the real world. There are two girls: shy Fuka, who doesn’t play piano anymore, and natural-born leader Aki, who has a knack for changing the subject when things get too close to home. Joining them, are four boys: the quiet chess genius Subaru, who shocks everyone by turning up one day with bleached hair; Ureshino, who falls in love with every girl he speaks to; Masamune, the gamer and inveterate liar; and Rion, the handsome soccer star. In the weeks and months to come, these seven young people will embark on a quest from the Wolf Queen to search out the Wishing Key that lies hidden somewhere within the lofty vaults of her domain. If found before the end of the school year, the key will unlock the power to grant one teen’s wish, at the cost of all seven losing their memories of their year spent together. Will they find the key? And if so, will someone use it?
And so the fantastical adventure begins, as the youths’ newfound friendships are put to the test on a journey that will see them find renewed hope and the courage to overcome their fears. Right?

Its good for stories to just be one movie, one book, one series of 3 seasons, etc. In fact sometimes that’s the preferred length. Its good to use your own thoughts and imagination to fill in the blanks. Not everything should be franchised into oblivion and back.

Los Angeles Times! See me, more patients and the studio!
So you may have wondered why Habersham's story followed so quickly on the heels of Lucky the Bear's, and the reason is, it was a bit of a teaser.
Over the past few months, I have been interviewed for almost 2 hours by a reporter for the LA Times. Then a photographer came out to the hospital and took photos of me and the hospital and the patients I had at the time (for another two hours!). And then a few weeks ago, another photographer came out to take portraits of the patients I had then. Including one of Habersham. Then, yesterday, September 10, this appeared as the cover of the LA Times Calendar section:
Tumblr media
That's Habersham before his surgery. And a wonderful play on Tears for Fears for the title of the story. :-) There's a two page spread inside the paper, and you can read it, and see a lot (if not all) of the photos online here. If the link doesn't work, you can also go to the LA Times and search "toy hospital" in the search box on the site and you should find the article that way too.
Anyway, as you may imagine, I've been doing a bit of a happy dance about the story all weekend. And I really wanted to share it with all of you because a) I thought you might enjoy the article and b) the reporter found me in part because of this blog which you all have chosen to read and follow and like over the years, so you all deserve thanks for the article too!

First Impression: Dr. STONE NEW WORLD
Tumblr media
The Kingdom of Science is back again for this new season of Dr. Stone! Our group of intrepid scientists and villagers is about to hit the high seas in a brand new ship they’re building from the keel up to find the One Pie—Oh wait…wrong “Jump” series. My bad. The goal this time around is to hit the high seas to find a cache of materials left behind by Senku’s father thousands of years ago on Treasure Island and crack the mystery of the petrification beam, which would hopefully heal and revive former adversary Tsukasa who is in a primitive form of Cryo-Sleep. However, as per the Scientific Method, our crew must go one step at a time: first, they need a map to find out where they’re going and fuel for both man and machine so that they can survive the long trip. So, what does our intrepid crew decide to do? Time to make with Minecraft and start planting crops, of course!

Crunchyroll fails to meet industry standards for Closed Captioning
Tumblr media
In 2017, Sony Pictures Entertainment bought a 95% majority share of Funimation Entertainment for $143 million. Four years later, Sony completed its acquisition of Crunchyroll for $1.175 billion, bringing the two companies back together after their partnership break in 2018. The decision cements Crunchyroll-qua-Sony’s place as the largest monopoly in the English-language anime streaming space.
The merger has included the gradual sunsetting of Funimation’s streaming site; all titles that aired after Spring 2022 will be uploaded exclusively to Crunchyroll; while any Funimation-exclusive titles have either been transferred over to Crunchyroll or will leave streaming, and dubbing projects are now carried out under the Crunchyroll umbrella. All of this makes one of the biggest issues with the site even more glaring: with a few exceptions, Crunchyroll does not offer closed captioning for its English dubs.
