Very excited to announce I am finally able to start up a dedicated freshwater goby stream tank soon!
I found a 30 gallon long (4 feet long!) aquarium quite cheap on Facebook marketplace a while back. It’s passed the water holding test, and now I just have to give it a good scrub to remove some water scaling. I’m also picking up some sand and river rocks this weekend to start the hardscape process, though I’m still on the lookout for good driftwood, a light and a small power head. I’m going to with plants that will accentuate the flow, namely various hairgrass and taller crypts along the back, moss on the driftwood, and some smaller plants as accents around the hardscape. Some of the larger river stones will be on rotation with a small container/tank in a sunny spot to accumulate algae and biofilm to munch on.
For sure I’m planning on getting a group of either Stiphodon annieae or S. rutilaurius, depending on what’s available in my city at the time.

I would also like a few each of a Rhinogobius and Sicyopus species, again depending on what’s available. I’m partial to R. zhoui but I haven’t seen them for sale in ages.
I would also like to have a school of rainbow shiners (Notropis chrosomus), but they may get a bit large for a 30 gallon. Though advice on aquarium size for a group of rainbow shiners really varies, with anywhere from a 15G to a 55G recommended as a minimum for a school.
But that’s still at least a month or more away, seeing as I don’t even have water in the tank at the moment. I’ve just been wanting to set up a goby-dedicated tank for ages and I’m as excited as a kid in a candy store!

Hey y'all, as some of my buddies know, I'm into fish keeping and have doing do so for a while. Its not cheap and after moving into town, I've had awful luck keeping fish alive and have narrowed it down to the root cause of it being bcuz of something in the city water. No matter what conditioners or tricks I use, it just isn't working and its personally too big of a hassel to buy or fill up 10 gallon jugs of filtered tap water at the grocery store. For me rn, this is no longer something I can sink money into and have decided to sell EVERYTHING. I'm asking for a minimum of $350 for everything as I'm going off the amount of money I've spent on equipment and now dead fish over the years. This hobby is getting too expensive for me and I figured I may as well sell what I have to help me out financially (I'm also getting really tight on money as well as my hours at work got cut).
I'm only shipping in-state. Minnesota only. Sorry to anyone interested that's out of state but I want shipping costs to be as low as possible and with everything included, it will be a heavy and huge package. If I were to end up shipping out of state which I'll only do if no one in MN is interested, I will tack on the shipping cost to the overall price of everything, just to be everyone aware.
Feel free to share this and reblog with anyone. Just send a DM if you're interested.

The four stages of becoming a birder:
🪹Nestling Phase: You start with a casual interest, peeking out of your cozy comfort zone to notice the birds around you.
🐤Fledgling Feats: You spread your wings, equipped with binoculars and guidebooks, ready to explore new habitats and spot diverse species.
🐦‍⬛Perching Proficiency: Your skills sharpen as you learn to identify birds by their calls, habits, and plumage, and feel a sense of accomplishment with each new sighting.
🦅Masterful Migration: Finally, you soar confidently, traversing landscapes near and far, sharing your passion with others. In the end, the true joy of birding lies in the journey itself—every chirp, flutter, and waddle along the way.
Happy National Go Birding Day!

looking up aquarium parasites b like: lol they're asexual so they can duplicate themselves even if there's only one in the tank. also they're basically immortal, also if you split them in half, or up into little pieces, those pieces will grow into more of them, also crushing them doesn’t work either and will have the same affect, they're also extremely good hitchhikers that will probably wind up in your tank regardless because they can get in your tank by you just adding the fish/plants you want in your tank. they breed pretty fast too so be careful about that.

a very hangry green noodle impatiently pacing back and forth for his breakfast (don’t worry, he was fed two days ago, but he’s a diva and didn’t want to eat what was on the menu for the day)
