Woo-ee, this was a ride! Grit and music and Americana and road trips and complicated families and joy and pain and the next big thing, wrapped in sheer blood-pumping prose. I'd half-forgotten how good a writer Rio is and it was great to finally read something new of hers. Her characters feel real and cinematic at the same time. She writes settings so you can smell the dust, feel the heat, hear the music. And the emotions. Oh god, the emotions. I know these characters intimately now and I felt every second.

I'm sure I'm missing as many musical references as I caught Shakespeare ones in If We Were Villains but that makes it no less of an experience. I want to flip back in time for the concerts. I want to take life by the throat and throw it to the wind. I want a cheeseburger. I wouldn't have it any other way.

It's time ...

So, y'all have always had my back. Seriously, a lot of my early readers for GSNBTR came from the Tumblr writing and whump communities, and I wouldn't be publishing now if it weren't for the support I received, especially at a time I felt I might never write again.

Over the past couple years, I've found beta readers, cover critiquers, commiserators, cheerleaders and hype people, and even folks who happily chipped into my Ko-Fi when my freelance work took a nosedive and I ran out of money one month. And I've found amazing, hopefully lifelong friends! Time after time, this community has left me speechless with the amount of love I've received. As of this month, I'm crawling out of my writing/marketing hole and launching the next phase of my writing journey, I want to return that energy as much as I can.

Advance reader copies for Never Broken (formerly the first 1/3 of GSNBTR, and still as whumpy as ever, maybe moreso) are open, and I’m committed to making sure every single person reading this who wants one (yes, that means you!) gets one. I decided to write an actual outline for Cursed Warlords! Have I been pantsting it? Yes. Now I have to reread everything, write down notes and ACTUALLY write an outline.

... I should have started with an outline but I didn't.

Nothing will change from the chapters already posted but I might take a little longer to actually post the next chapter.

If anyone has tips or scenes they 100% want to see send them my way. That way I can try to put them in my outline.

When we say that future creators can do better, we mean it. Our carrd has some reasources, but everyone in the Star Wars fandom is encouraged to not only go out and do their own research, but to spread what they find among their peers. Learn how to draw the facial features of different ethnicities. Large noses, flat ones, hooked ones. Round faces, full cheeks, hooded eyes. The full range of skin tones. Learn about the tropes and stereotypes surrounding your marginalized characters. Learn what to do, how to avoid doing the same things as the Bad Batch creators. You'll be shocked to learn how popular media has historically gone out of its way to demonize people of color, disabled people, neurodivergent people, and Jewish people, among others. What may seem like a harmless trope to you often has decades or even centuries of hate behind it. No trope exists in a vacuum, and no creation does, either. You can do better.
