I watched flow today. Absolutely phenomenal. The last media I've seen that has made me feel so deeply with the characters and feel their feelings along with them is Watership Down (which deserves its own post) and honestly... I think this might have surpassed it in the way of how closely I feel I am experiencing the story with the characters.

In the first 20 or so minutes when the water is rising and the cat is on the statue and the water keeps rising and its crying out, I felt it. I could feel the fear and helplessness of having nowhere else to go and I was truly genuinely scared for that cat. I was scared every moment for the first hour of the movie of what might happen next, because I knew it wouldn't be easy.

I forgot about the stakes for just a moment towards the middle. They find a family in the animals, the fight scene between the birds was beautiful and oh so tragic, but so heartwarming that someone you don't know - someone you can't even properly communicate with - is risking their life and livelihood for yours. I forgot, for a moment, how high the stakes were.

And then the storm comes back, cat is in the water again. I fear for the cat, for the bird, I genuinely believe that absolutely anything could happen. Anyone could die. And then the beautiful scene with the whirlpool type thing that takes the bird away (in death?) and the cat once again desperately tries to find its way back to the boat. It finds the trinket - the one the lemur lost and the one that was from the cats original home - and is safe for a momen.

The beauty of the whale. Divine intervention, ensuring that the animals survive just a little bit longer. Suddenly beached with nowhere else left to go. The cats desperate attempt to save the capybara and the capybara returning the favor.

The ending shot panning to the reflection in the water as the ripples slowly still and you can see them all together clearly. The roll of the credits and the slow fade back to blue and the whale being free once again.

This movie is so beautiful. I'm so so glad I watched it, and even more grateful I got to watch it with friends. Please give it a watch, it's gorgeous.

More stuff from uni, this time for character design class. This is Alana, the leader of a group of rebels called the Red birds in a post apocalyptic world. She is a mutant who can turn into a bearded vulture. Her and her brother (character on the far right of the last picture) were made by an organization, which she later betrays, escaping and leaving her brother behing.

Jericho (the character right next to her) is the best pilot of the group, they often work together and have a pseudo-romance, that will, eventually, flourish once the war is over. Chris is Jericho's daughter, a good kid who doesn't yet fully comprehend what her dad does, but still thinks it's cool! Also yes they're wearing Jericho's jacket.

Alana is a strict leader for the Red birds, but she is even more strict on herself. She's often overworked and ends up crashing after many nights of not resting. Luckily for her, Jericho will always be there to support her

Yeah… me too.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting a lot on the years I studied art and animation — school, college, uni — and how many golden opportunities I let slip by.

I had some amazing teachers. People who genuinely cared. They explained things clearly, guided me with patience, gave their time and effort to help me grow. And what did I do?

…I winged it.

I thought “It’ll all work out.”

Spoiler: it didn’t.

I coasted through, relying on raw interest instead of real discipline. I skipped the fundamentals, didn’t put in the hours, and worst of all — I ignored the help that was right there in front of me. When you look back and realise you were the one who didn’t listen, that hits hard.

You can’t change the past no matter how much you wish you could. Sometimes you have to step back to move forward — focus on the basics, practice with purpose, and build something real.

🎨 I’ve gone back to the basics — straight lines, circles, ovals, shapes, form — and I’m rebuilding everything from the ground up.

✍️ Not just to someday turn this into a career — designing characters, building a webtoon, maybe even animating a series…

But because I owe it to myself to finally give this my full effort.

And you know what? It feels good.

It feels real.
