A HANDY DANDY GUIDE TO WRASSLIN
For the lovely, the wonderful, the incomparable @gideongrace , may I present: Daggs’ Guide to the Wild Ass World of Professional Wrestling! (and it’s goin’ behind a cut because It Got LONG!)
So, here is the things. Wrestling is STUPID. And great? And fun as hell! And the most carny sport to ever exist. But, also SUPER inside baseball a lot of the time just because it’s got such a long goddamn history that it can seem daunting to get into. Like I’ve only been back into it the last four or so years, so there’s a lot of history that I’ve missed! There’s also a whole lot of gate keeping, just like comics or video games. There’s also the bitter truth that a lot of people in the industry are absolute shitheels that should have been fired long ago (and I’ll only be vague about a lot of that). So, yeah. A WHOLE LOT.
First things first: HISTORY. There’s just so much. But, conveniently? You don’t need it. It can be fun if you end up really like wrestling, but contrary to what a bunch of middle-aged, racist, misogynist and WILDLY homophobic, White American Men will tell you, you don’t actually need it to enjoy yourself. If you DO want history, might I suggest the How2Wrestling podcast! It is a cheerful, lovely show hosted by two goddamn delightful humans, Kefin and Jo (who are also just wonderful people to interact with in general)! There is also the Comic Book Story of Professional Wrestling by Aubrey Sitterson and Chris Moreno, which is a great read! Wrestlesplania is another good show for history of the sport and the wrestlers! They’re definitely, uh, hornier, but v fun!
Secondly: On the subject of inside baseball, wrestling jargon is a whole thing. The ONLY part of wrestling history that is 100% important: it is a carny sport. Like, some side-show, vaudeville ass shit, yo. And it has never evolved from that, so there are a whole lot of terms used that are very specific to like... early 1900′s carnival culture. Here is a wikipedia article, but there’s also a wonderful How2Wrestling episode about it all! I’ll try not to use much!
Thirdly: We can’t talk about wrestling podcasts without mentioning Colt Cabana’s The Art of Wrestling. A lot of the archives are behind a paywall now, but the show is great. If you DO get into wrestling and start to find wrestlers you enjoy, I highly highly suggest checking to see if they’ve done an episode. Colt is a goddamn delight of a human, deserving of support and a great interviewer on top of it. Even if you just bookmark eps you’d wanna listen to and then start a free trial to marathon them all. (See also: the Colt Cabana & CM Punk lawsuit(s), in which Colt got royally fucked over.)
Fourthly: Nobodies Watching Wrestling. Drag Queens watching wrestling. That’s all you need to know. Even out of context, they’re goddamn delightful humans. Might I recommend this episode with EFFY, because I sometimes just watch it when I’m having a bad day.
Fifthly: Tights & Fights is a great weekly wrestling pod, and is how I keep up on a lot of things that I might not be watching. PLUS, diverse group of (wonderful) hosts: Hal Lublin, Daniel Radford, Lindsey Kelk, Open Mike Eagle, and producer Julien Burrell. They’re just great. And horny, at times, but in a charming and respectful way.
Now... The boring part. I’m just gonna get some of the popular company introductions out of the way, and then the fun part of So Many Match Suggestions at the bottom. But, business first! (The Big difference between Larger Companies and Independent Companies is that the big guys have a contracted roster of people who sometimes can work with other companies [unless they’re the WWE, who have exclusive contracts and still call their employees Independent Contractors so they don’t have to offer health insurance or a union], and indie guys contract people usually show-by-show. ALSO, there is intergender wrestling [men vs women, which does bother a lot of people. I do side with support of it, but I do totally get how it can be hard to watch] in indie shows, whereas there is NOT in 90% of the big companies.)
(And, honestly, if you wanna skip this part, you can, but if I don’t do it first, I’ll forget..)
AN OVERVIEW OF THE BIG PLAYERS
WWE - Here’s the thing. The WWE kinda... is a terrible capitalist bastard of a company, run by a morally bankrupt, egomaniacal, shitstain, roid-rage cryptkeeper of a man. And, if you want my personal opinion, RAW and Smackdown are both (currently) TERRIBLE shows, despite having some truly phenomenal talent. BUT, but. NXT (and NXT UK) is probably the best, like, weekly wrestling show (on TV, at least, but we’ll get there). The talent is INCREDIBLE, the storylines are less bad bananas, and they’ve adopted a LOT of the best indie talent lately (because they want to directly compete with AEW, but that’s a whole other thing). WWE programming is also the easiest to get a hold of because they are the longest running and basically Disney, so there are some full matches on YouTube, and Raw and NXT are available on Hulu. They are also releasing a lot of free stuff on the WWE Network that you can watch without signing up for a paid account, but there is a lot of stuff behind a pay wall.
Cons: Real Talk, run by a bunch of terrible people. Responsible for covering up a lot of truly reprehensible crimes for which no one was held accountable, despite being well documented. A blatant disregard for the (physical and mental) safety and/or financial security of a lot of their roster--specifically the people you don’t see on TV. (If you want some history, you can look through the past tweets of the New York 64 Tournament, but a lot of it turned my stomach, so I would not suggest, but it’s there if you have the same morbid curiosity that I did)
Pros: The company might be run by terrible people, but their roster is good. A lot of my top wrestlers do work for the WWE, sure, but they do hire a lot of decent humans that I sometimes feel bad about not supporting. Also, it is the dream of a lot of people to join WWE simply because of the prestige, the massive audience, and job security. I might hate Vince but I can’t begrudge any wrestler currently working for them.
NXT Pros: On the subject of rosters, NXT is LIT. But they have also stolen some of the best indie wrestlers recently: Mercedes Martinez and Jake Atlas, two of my All Time Favs. Both of whom deserve the world, because being openly gay in the wrestling industry is the pits.
All Elite Wrestling - AEW is a very new company, and they are my favourite of the big promotions. They are a company run by wrestlers, rather than a millionaire with a writing staff. I like the wrestling style(s) better, I was a huge fan of a lot of their roster before they hit TV last October, and I like not giving the McMahons money. The storylines are better, if only because they don’t have a writer’s room dictating scripts and such, and the characters are more fun (for me at least).
Easiest ways to watch for free: Their YouTube channel! There you can find a lot of highlights, behind the scenes, AEW Dark (the “dark” matches, or the non-televised matches from TV tapings), PPV pre-shows and a lot of stupid stuff.
Cons: A bit of an issue offering equal match time to the women’s roster the way they SAID they would at the start. A bit more violent of a style as a lot of the wrestlers came up death match style wrestling, or are from Japan/wrestled in Japan and typically wrestle “strong style” (wrestling style with less theatrics and known for Real Real Strikes that Hurt A Lot), which some people can find off-putting. Also, they hired Jake Hager, who is a real piece of shit.
Pros: Have a wonderfully diverse roster. Orange Cassidy. Sonny Kiss. Good storytelling. Jake The Snake Roberts doing Hella Promos. The Dark Order, who we affectionately refer to as the Spooky Perverts. Chris Jericho yelling at a Drone, and Matt Hardy being a wizard. A bunch of wrestlers who are married to other wrestlers who work for WWE, and good jokes are made.
BUT THE BIGGEST PRO-AEW THING I CAN PROVIDE: NYLA FUCKING ROSE. They didn’t make her the first women’s champion like they should have, but they put her in the first championship match on the FIRST episode of the weekly show, Dynamite, and she is now the CURRENT women’s champion. I don’t wanna make a big deal, only it is a BIG DEAL, because Nyla Fucking Rose is the first openly transgender wrestler signed to a major promotion, and if you think I didn’t fucking CRY LIKE A CHILD when she won, you’re wrong. So, yeah, a NATIONALLY TELEVISED WRESTLING PROGRAM’S CURRENT WOMEN’S CHAMPION IS A TRANSGENDER, FIRST NATIONS WOMAN. NYLA. FUCKING. ROSE.
As of right now, AEW seems to be done filming, which is both Very Smart and also heartbreaking, but you can find all the ways to watch over here on their site if it looks like fun!
WOW Women of Wrestling - Have you seen GLOW? This is a show created by the IRL creator of GLOW (the promotion the show is based on, not the show)! And it is? Incredible? The characters are fun and portrayed as superheroes, the stories are CAMP af, and the wrestling is GOOD. They’re a non-traditional show, which is fun. Their roster is made up of wrestlers playing different wrestlers. Wrestling is a bunch of super talented people playing characters while doing acrobatics. WOW gives us people playing characters, playing other characters, while also doing acrobatics.
Cons: All male announce team? On an all women’s show? Excuse? And also: Tessa Blanchard who is, it turns out, a great big racist. Also a little harder to get full episodes it seems.
Pros: Literally everything else.
Ring of Honor - For awhile ROH was handily competing with WWE. And then they weren’t. And then they got better. And then they got worse. And now, currently, they are a company that I hate supporting.
Cons: Run by assholes who don’t care about worker safety, and don’t put anything into the women’s division.
Pros: Sometimes they partner with New Japan Pro Wrestling. They’ve recently released a lot of goooood old matches including some Kevin Steen (currently WWE’s Kevin Owens) vs El Generico (definitely, 100% not at all, no way, no how, of course NOT WWE’s Sami Zayn [he is, this is another inside baseball joke that I’m just obligated to make every time I mention El Generico]) matches which are BRUTAL. Oh, and Dalton Castle:
Impact! - It’s back! I don’t watch it, but they DO have Rich Swann, so they can’t be bad. There is an entire history to Impact that is BANANAS. Like AEW, a bit more rough and tumble, scrappy death match folks, and I like a lot of the roster, like Taya Valkyrie, Jessika Havok and Sami Callihan. Not a bad show, but the full show weekly doesn’t hold my attention.
Cons: Tessa Blanchard, mostly. She is an incredible wrestler, her matches are good, but.
Pros: Pretty easy to watch, actually? I believe they’re still on Twitch, and they have an entire channel on Pluto TV.
New Japan Pro Wrestling - NJPW is GREAT. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. The shows are long, and strong style just... hurts. Like, a lot of wincing on my end. But the wrestling. Oh, lordy, the wrestling is incredible. But it is brutal. Strong Style wrestling is much different than the typical American style that you see in WWE, and a lot more grounded than high flying lucha styles. (Though a lot of wrestlers do travel to Mexico and train in lucha style wrestling (which I am the least familiar with), so currently there is a lot of the very high flying flippty dos and the absolutely brutal strikes that you see in strong style wrestling.)
Cons: Show/match length is typically long and there is A Lot to See. The only way I know to watch full shows is through their streaming service.
Pros: Just the whole thing, really. They release a free match on YouTube every Monday. Also, Toru Yano, the best wrestler in the world.
Indie Promotions that I know less about because I can afford only so many streaming services
Firstly, here is a Wiki list of wrestling streaming services. I’m gonna name a couple below, but the wiki page has a handy list of costs of the bigger ones because capitalism knows how to get you. (Personally, I only use IWTV at the moment. They’re a good company run by good people, and a lot of indie promotions would have died out without partnering with/support from them)
Beyond Wrestling - Beyond is My Favourite Promotion To Watch, Bar None. Their weekly show (when in season), Uncharted Territory, is fantastic. Diverse talent, diverse styles. They do have a lot of death matches, which can suck to watch if you aren’t into that sort of thing. I am, it turns out, into that sort of thing. But listening to interviews with a lot of death match wrestlers, specifically Jimmy Havoc, can help understand the w h y of it all! Available on IWTV.
Chikara - Chikara is So Fun! They are a (mostly) family friendly promotion and training school. Their shows are filled with young/newbie wrestlers as they learn the tricks. Run by Mike Quackenbush, who is a delightful person, BRILLIANT wrestler/trainer, and someone who is willing to take the safety of his people into account. He’s good people, who trains good people, and supports good people, and gives them a safe, open place to learn. It’s also very fun! A lot of comedy matches. Watch on: CHIKARAtopia or some of their archive is on IWTV.
EVE - An all-women promotion, providing a safe working and training environment for women and girls. They have put their foot in it on occasion, but they seem to still be good people. (I would recommend the Tights & Fights episode with founders Emily and Dann Read for a little backstory on the company, but not needed.) Ways to watch.
RIPTIDE - YO, RIPTIDE IS DOING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SHIT. Cinematic wrestling, and it is great. The matches are good, the promos are good, the people are good. But the way they film it oh my god holy shit. When everything is a little less hectic, they are people I am definitely gonna support as much as I can. Watch here.
A Matter of Pride - Here’s the thing. They have put on some very good, inclusive shows. However, some serious allegations have come out about Rick Cataldo, who is involved with the company, and I think it’s important to mention. They have done a lot of good in the world of prowrestling and they put on good shows and they have given a platform to people who might otherwise have been pushed aside, however bad things have still happened there. Watchable on YouTube.
OTHER NOTABLE INDIE COMPANIES
GCW (IWTV, Fite TV & Smartmark) * Black Label Pro (IWTV) * Prime Time Pro Wrestling (IWTV) * Uncanny Attractions * RISE (IWTV) * Bar Wrestling * PWG * Stardom * Bizarro Lucha (IWTV) * OTT
There is also NWA Power that is a good show on YouTube, however, they immediately hired (and now fired for being racist) Jim Cornette who is... just an absolute jackass. But I do feel I should mention them.
Is that over? Yes? Well..
NOW THE FUN PART. THIS IS MY MOMENT. THIS IS THE ONLY PART THAT REALLY MATTERS.
So. The thing is. Wrestling is A Lot. SO, I’m gonna give you as wide a variety as I can! I’ll point out some fun people, some fun gimmicks and HOPEFULLY won’t completely turn you off! If you enjoy any of these, then the dumb stuff up above is useful!
First! The most important wrestling match of All Time. Invisible Man vs Invisible Stan. This is everything you need to know about the beats of good wrestling, but also why wrestling is fun. There are two people in this match: Referee Bryce Remsburg and the audience. And that’s it. This is literally just a referee (but it’s Bryce, so the referee) miming a wrestling match, and an audience buying into the kayfabe wholeheartedly. (Inside baseball: Bad Boy Vision - “Bad Boy” Joey Janela’s [another wrestler] sunglasses)
One of my favourite matches in recent memory, AND one of the best matches sort of just in general! David Starr vs Jordan Devlin at OTT. Quintessential wrestling, fantastic storytelling, and one of the best promo packages I’ve ever seen. BONUS: David Starr is a GREAT human fighting day and night to unionize the wrestling industry. He’s the Bernie Sanders of professional wrestling.
I thought about putting an actual death match on the list, but the closest I will get is this Nick Gage vs Josh Briggs fans bring the weapons match. I chose this match because my very best friend does not like this style of wrestling at all, but he did enjoy this match. It’s a lot, obviously. But it’s not as bad as it could be, but there’s also no shame if it isn’t your thing. Hell, I don’t even know why it’s my thing! I don’t even like bloody horror movies! I will say that Nick Fuckin’ Gage is one of the most prolific death match guys still working today, and also one of the nicest, kindest, most beloved guys there is and I would die to protect him. MDK!
Okay, this is the single most beautiful match to exist. Cara Noir vs PAC (fka WWE’s Neville). This isn’t wrestling, this is art. Great story, no commentary, gorgeous camerawork. Bonus: Cara Noir has the most fantastic and well rounded gimmick (character) in the business. Have you seen Black Swan? That’s it. That’s his character. And it’s great. Nailed. It.
Oh, did you know David Arquette is a wrestler? HE IS! Here’s he and RJ City.
On the subject of WWE and NXT, this Halftime Heat match of Aleister Black, Ricochet & Velveteen Dream vs Johnny Gargano, Adam Cole & Tommaso Ciampa. These are six of the best wrestlers work, and definitely TOPS in the WWE system. SEE ALSO: Black & Dream put on a HELL of a program together at NXT, but it’s been boiled down to this highlight vid that gives me feelings. Gargano vs Andrade Cien Almas is one of THE BEST matches of all time and here is a shitty highlight reel, but it’s still good. Adam Cole is 1) incredible and 2) the prettiest possum in the Denny’s dumpster, have a Cole vs Finn Balor highlight reel. God, I wish it were easier to find WWE stuff on YouTube.. All these matches should be on Hulu, tho.
NEXT! Kris Statlander vs Davienne for Beyond. Kris Statlander is A Legend, despite being real new to the business. Currently wrestling for AEW, former stuntwoman and, most importantly, she’s an alien.
FREE FOR ALL TIME. Solo Darling vs Penelope Ford vs Veda Scott vs Ashley Vox. They didn’t have to go that hard, but they did.
SPEAKING OF. Kylie Rae, Penelope Ford, Kimber Lee & Skylar vs. Shotzi Blackheart, Harlow &Twisted Sisterz. I just? I love? All of them?
And not to mention Kris Statlander vs Priscilla Kelly. I mean, I mean. I cannot sing the praises of both of these women enough.
Okay, so I am really only passingly familiar with a lot of Japanese wrestling. Mostly got into it last summer, actually. I get it, I love it, but I’m not as well versed in the people involved. Two badasses I do know? Meiko Satomura vs Kana (WWE’s Asuka). Fucking legends, both of them. Hard hitters, too, jesus.
If you do get into NXT at all, Keith Lee and Donovan Dijak put on one fuck of a program together, but the story started long before they ever entered the WWE! Please enjoy this absolute hoss fight from a couple years back.
NOW, some intergender matches! If you think they aren’t your thing, feel free to skip!
A fun match of (current IRL romantic partners) Keith Lee vs Mia Yim from before either of them debuted at NXT. I believe they weren’t dating at this point, so the next part will really hit, cuz it’s romantic as shit... This was not the booked ending. Keith Lee didn’t kick out on purpose. (Which, I mean, is literally all wrestling endings, but.) Mia was booked to lose (at least they told her that), and he purposefully took the L and went out on his back, to surprise her and give her a MASSIVE push.
Leyla Hirsch vs David Starr. I just. I goddamn love Leyla Hirsch. A very young wrestler, very new to the industry and I just love her so much?
Two great, intense matches of Joey Janela, the patron saint of bad decisions. Versus Kris Statlander (I can’t get enough of her) and versus Jordynne Grace.
Orange Cassidy and Penelope Ford vs Shockwave and Veda Scott. Shockwave is a robot and Orange Cassidy is Paul Rudd in Wet Hot American Summer. I can give no other explanation.
COMEDY TIME, YO. Comedy wrestling is The Best. There’s a name, Orange Cassidy. Yeah, he’s very funny, and also the most divisive person in wrestling rn. He’s Paul Rudd. He knows he’s a wrestler. He’s lazy. And there’s one match that we need to get out of the way first...
Orange Cassidy vs David Starr. The thing is. Orange Cassidy can fucking wrestle. His gimmick might be that he doesn’t want to, but he can. And It. Is. Great.
Now we can get on with the funnies.
Orange Cassidy vs Colt Cabana. Not story needed. Just two dudes at a food festival. Oh, yeah, there’s also a Swamp Monster. We love Swampy.
Colt Cabana vs Toru Yano. It’s just. So. FUN.
You might know the name Joey Ryan as The Dick Flip Wrestler, or The King of Dong Style. His dick has magical powers, it’s a thing. Here’s he and Orange Cassidy.
Johnny Cockstrong is the opposite of Joey Ryan. Literally. Here’s him also vs Orange Cassidy.
Did you want to see a Dick Test of Strength between them? Well, it happened.
Back to RIPTIDE for (another intergender, kinda) Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate & Trent Seven vs Joey Ryan, Candice LeRae (the World’s Cutest Tag Team) & Colt Cabana.
Kinda almost but not really comedy but very funny and also full of good wrasslin’, here is EFFY vs Orange Cassidy. Pirated, technically, and in real low quality, but I Love It. EFFY is Daddy.
Now, you’ll notice not a lot of women in the comedy section. Real talk, women still tend to get treated as a joke by the wrestling industry at large, so they don’t get the luxury of being as funny as they want. But one woman out there doing the lord’s work is Session Moth Martina. Legend. Love her. Admittedly, another intergender match, but it makes me happy. Martina & Orange Cassidy vs Joey Janela & Penelope Ford (Janelope).
One of my All Time Favourite Matches to date, EFFY and Danhausen (Gaytanic Panic) vs Chris Dickinson and Pinkie Sanchez (Team Pazuzu). Yes, this is a Halloween show. Yes, the Ref IS dressed as Chris Dickinson. There are teeth, Jesus resurrects someone, Danhausen is in fishnets and Effy is in face paint. It’s great. Love that Danhausen.
And there we have it! A whole lot of information and a bunch of matches and some stuff. It’s real dumb, and sometimes the industry is dark, but there’s a lot of hella good people doing dumb things. I hope this was helpful?? And Fun! (But my feeling won’t be hurt if it wasn’t fun, I promise!)
I leave you with this, RJ City making coffee in his underwear with Danhausen. Completely out of context. Because I love it.

so, i have long held the belief that there are no cis/straight characters in the adventure zone. i decided that i wanted to compile some proof. if i put together everything that implies an lgbt character it would be like 3 hours long, so instead i put together everything that actually confirms it, either by directly stating or by giving a relationship with another character. put in chronological order bc that was the easiest way to figure out. here it is. enjoy.
transcript:
Griffin: I definitely fucked up in that like, the Bury Your Gays trope with the Ram and Raven, Hurley and Sloane, at the end of the Petals to the Metal arc. When I was writing it, I was like, “Oh it’s the first romance of the show, I’ll give it a tragic ending,” without knowing that there was this whole fucking, like, that’s how most gay and lesbian relationships in media end, is with tragic endings. Which I didn’t realize and so like, I’ve stepped in it a lot, in that regard.
Justin: In my mind, when I was doing the character and had Taako’s story in my head, Taako was a gay guy.
Johann: That’s like [Boyland’s] 400 kids and wives and husbands and stuff. That’s… god, that’s rough.
Griffin: I’m trying to stick with the they pronoun for Roswell, I keep fucking that up.
Griffin: One thing I want to make clear, we’re gonna learn a lot more about Lup in this session, and pretty much on through the rest of the campaign, but I wanted to say as long as we’re talking about your backstory that the two of you are twins, and that Lup was assigned male at birth, but at a fairly young age she transitioned and identified as a female elf, and as, you know, as Lup. Which I only mention because like, talking about your backstory and having a difficult childhood or whatever, I don’t really- it’s your call, but I don’t really want that backstory to be like, you had a traumatic childhood because of your identities, because I think that would be shitty, but rather just like, it’s a tough world. Justin: I feel it was more scrappy. I feel like it was more like, “well, we’re gonna look out for each other, and that’s it.” We’re on each other’s team, and we’re looking out for each other. I don’t think it had as much to do with our identities. So we’re clear, and so I’m clear not to misgender Lup, can we make the assumption that the things we are talking about probably took place after she transitioned, so if I’m referring to Lup, as she- Griffin: Yeah. Yeah, that is her pronoun.
Taako: You’re right, there has been a terrible loss that you should know about. Justin: And I drop the camouflage spell that I’ve been maintaining. Griffin (softly): Oh, God. Taako: I just wanted to be honest. I didn’t want to catfish you or anything. [laughing and clapping] This is Taako today. I had a bad run-in while I was saving the world, again, and this is what I really look like. I just wanted you to know that, in case it changes anything, for you, personally, I thought you should know, now. Kravitz [Griffin]: [He says,] Taako, I was crazy about you, before some weird light told me a story about your 100-year journey through existence, where you were fighting for a century to save the world. [He says,] I love you, Taako, and at this point I think everyone in reality is going to love you after hearing your story, and… nothing’s gonna change that.
Griffin: The day of Carey and Killian’s wedding was full of laughing, and dancing, and feasting, and loving.
Dylan Mathis: I loved Jeremiah Blackwell. And, he loved Anne. And when they got married, do you- Mr. Ryehouse, do you know- have you ever, in a moment, been the most happy and saddest you’ve ever been, in your whole life?
Griffin: This is a question from Katya, who says, “I have a very important question to Travis about Aubrey Little: Is she a lesbian?” Travis: So, I based Aubrey on four people, right? She’s named after Aubrey Plaza, and she is pierced and tattooed like my friends Verona, Tybee, and Kate. And so, all four of those people are bisexual. So it was just kind of in my head, it wasn’t really a decision I made but as I was picturing Aubrey, and basing her off those four people, she just was bisexual. So to answer your question Katya, she is bisexual, like all four of those people.

11/11/11 tag
Thank you to @agnesfagen for tagging me! :D
1.) How do you create a character?
Hmmm, it depends really sometimes they just come to me all packaged up or other times they’re more forced but a lot of the time i just like to create characters that I would wanna see in something and then go off that, I sometimes don’t really start off with much - it may just be little concept and then it kinda snowballs on from there.
2.) How did you choose the name for you WIP?
I honestly just typed the first thing that came to my head when I first saved my document and then it just kinda stuck... guess I’m just what you’d call a professional???
3.) Which elemental represents each of your main characters best?
Oh mannn.... I mean I guess I would say Eva’s element would be air bc she’s very curious and adventurous.... Aubrey would be a mix of earth and fire bc she’s very intense and stubborn and can be aggressive but she’s v loyal. Life would air for different reasons to Eva (he’s a dumb boi) ! Death would be earth because she’s very calm and grounded but also romantic at times. Ya know I have no clue why these personality traits mean these elements but in my head it made perfect sense.
4.) What is your favourite thing about your WIP?
Probably the characters bc I have so much fun writing them and having them interact with each others and a lot of them just make me laugh ahaha!
5.) What do you enjoy most about writing?
Definitely just getting to see my ideas in an actual form and seeing them develop and just the whole concept of making up all these worlds and characters that are all mine and it’s just such a cool progress starting with just a tiny idea and expanding it until you have this entire universe that you’ve made every detail of.
6.) Do you have a playlist that represents your WIP?
Nahh, I feel like a lot of people do this which is so cool but the idea of me doing it about my wip makes me cringe idkkk.
7.) What is your protagonist’s favourite song?
I wish I knew... My mind doesn’t let me do that kinda stuff heheh.
8.) How long have you been writing?
Since I could (or before as I used to dictate to my mum what to write down before I could write), it was such a massive part of what I used to do as a toddler, I always used to make little paper books and staple them so they’d look like books and then i’d write incredibly odd stories!
9.) Do you use other books to inspire your own?
Whenever I have writers block I try and read more but I don’t particularly go out of my way to find inspiration, I usually just end up subconsciously using books as inspiration and then later being like “ohhhh that’s what inspired me to do that” so i guess in a way I do??
10.) Which author inspired you the most?
Well, I hate to say this as I really don’t like her now, but Harry Potter was one of the first book series I really got into, so probably J.K Rowling.
11.) What is your WIP about?
I’m awful at explaining but here goes! It’s basically a story about an alternate reality where there are two worlds (the human world and the spirit world) which live alongside each other, the spirit world being invisible to the human world. The spirit world basically works to maintain a balance in the human world, and is split into 4 agencies (Fate, Love, Dreams and Luck) who each dispatch spirits to do their jobs. In the story, this balance is broken when a rogue spirit begins gaining too much power and in the process, tampers with a portal which allows a human briefly into the spirit world and leaves two spirits powerless and trapped in the human world. It’s a lot of chaos, confusion and misinformed people making misinformed choices. It’s a...Mess!
My 11 Questions:
1.) What was the first part of your WIP you created?
2.) If you had to remove one character from your WIP, who would it be?
3.) If your WIP was made into a movie, who would you want to direct it? Who would play the protagonist and the antagonist?
4.) What writing tip do you wish you could go back and tell yourself when you first started your WIP?
5.) If you were transported into your WIP which characters place would you like to take and why?
6.) What would your main character’s Starbucks orders be?
7.) You can only write on genre for the rest of your life, which one and why?
8.) Do you have a particular time of day that you find it easiest to write?
9.) What is one trope that you shamelessly overuse?
10.) If you had to, which author is your writing style most comparable to?
11.) What part of your character do you usually create first, appearance or personality?

Missed Message - Bechloe PP3 One-shot
So, @rejection-isnt-failure and I were talking about stuff we still really want to read, and she mentioned that she’d like to see a fic about the hostage situation in PP3. Like, with Beca getting injured and Chloe being worried etc.
So I wrote something for it.
And it was supposed to be about 1000 words.
Instead, it became this long thing, with more than 4000 words of fluff and angst and just a lot of feelings. I guess.
I hope you’ll all enjoy!
“Where’s Beca?”
“I don’t know.” Chloe responds, aware of how angry she sounds.
“You don’t have to get mad.” Aubrey whispers, annoyed because of her friend’s behavior.
“I’m not mad I’m worried.”
“About Beca?”
“About everything.”
They’re on a boat. They’re on a boat with Amy’s dad and he looks like he might just kill them. Nobody knows what’s happening. At least they have each other, right? Well, everybody but Amy and Beca, which is a main part of her concern. Her dad got off the phone with Amy about twenty minutes ago, and even though they don’t quite know what they talked about, they know it can’t be good.
They might die.
They might die and all Chloe can think about is Beca.
Why was she such an idiot? Why did she have to focus all of her attention on stupid Chicago when all she wanted was Beca. Always Beca. Yet, she had never wanted to admit it to herself, never wanted to fully commit to it. It was scary, and difficult, and she didn’t know how to deal with it.
She should have just.
Because now she might never see her again.
Apparently, they only have ten minutes more to live.
She pulls out her phone again, because if she’s going to die anyway she might as well risk being seen with her phone. She hides behind Emily and reaches for her phone. Please, please let there be service.
There is.
She could call the cops, she could call her parents, or Chicago, or basically do anything else that might actually give them a chance here. Instead, she texts Beca.
‘Hey. I don’t know if you’ll actually get this. I don’t even know what’s going to happen to me. Maybe this is all a big joke, or maybe someone will come and save us. But if not, if I really do die tonight, it can’t be without me telling you that I love you. I love you Beca. I have for the longest time, and I’ve been afraid for so long. Afraid to tell you, afraid to admit it to myself, afraid to be with you. I know it’s too late now, but I just wanted to let you know that I’m not afraid anymore. I love you so much. I just wish I’d had the chance to tell you.’
She hits send.
Meanwhile, on the small rowboat.
“Come on, we’re almost there!” Amy yells as she pushes Beca to row harder and faster.
Finally, they reach the boat and Beca can’t believe they’re here. They’re here and Amy has a plan and the Bellas are going to be okay. Chloe is going to be okay.
“Alright,” She says once they’ve figured out what to do, “I’ll see you soon, yes?”
“See you soon.” Amy promises, before Beca disappears up the stairs.
She ducks down quickly and then slides behind Chloe. It’s the easiest, really. She pretends that she didn’t notice that Jessica or Ashley, or even Aubrey, were sitting closer to the stairs. It just made sense to her to be with Chloe.
She waits for about thirty seconds before the perfect opportunity presents itself.
“Ten minutes, ladies.” Fergus says.
“Guys, you know what we should do?” Beca says out loud, sliding out from behind Chloe to look at her friends.
“Where did you come from?” Amy’s dad asks her, and she can practically feel Chloe’s eyes burning holes into the side of her face.
“What?” She asks, trying to sound confident while her heart is beating in her chest. Everything depended on him believing her in this moment.
“You weren’t here before.” He answers, and she can feel her palms starting to get sweaty. It also doesn’t help that Chloe is still sitting so fucking close and staring at her like that. She doesn’t know what to do with it so she just chooses not to make eye contact for now, hoping that will make it easier.
“I’ve been here the whole time.” She stammers, “I’m.. just small.”
Finally, she dares to make eye contact with the redhead, but only for a split second. Chloe narrows her eyes at her, clearly trying to understand what Beca’s plan is. She looks over at Fergus before quickly looking back at Chloe once again, silently telling her ‘just go with it’. The redhead nods slightly, enough for Beca to know that she can do this.
“Just,” she starts, standing up now, “if we only have ten minutes left, I say we spend it doing something we love.” It’s such an out of character thing to say, which her voice all high and smiling sweetly. She knows her friends will notice the odd behavior and will – hopefully – pick up on her plan.
“Let’s go out like Bellas and sing one more song.” she looks over at Chloe now, staring directly into the other girl’s eyes will she ducks her head down a little, hoping Chloe will understand what she’s trying to do. After all, she’s the one who knows her best. They can say a million things to each other without ever actually saying a word.
But Chloe just narrows her eyes in confusion, while the other Bellas question her proposal. Great. She understands though, they’re scared, and have no idea what kind of real danger they’re in. But Beca knows Amy. And she knows Amy with a plan. If she had to guess, there’s about an 87 percent chance this boat is going to blow up in the next ten minutes.
“I think we should sing one more song.” She says, and it comes out rushed and high pitched and slightly too aggressive and too fast. But then she looks down and Chloe is nodding and she gets it. Of course, she does.
“Guys, I just want to sing so badly.” Beca adds, hoping everyone else will understand too. “We really think you’ll like it.”
He gives them ten minutes, which is enough, she hopes.
Beca looks at Chloe one more time and that’s enough.
The other Bellas start ‘toxic’ and Chloe takes her place up front, she’s the lead vocals for this, and it’s one of the songs they always keep as a backup, in case anything else goes wrong.
Halfway through the song, however, Beca moves to stand in front of Chloe, instead of remaining in her position beside her. The two Bellas share a look, and Chloe gives her the slightest nod. She understands. She moves away and lets Beca take the lead, trusting her.
Even though this is normally her part, she knows that they all have to follow Beca’s lead right now, because their friend clearly has a plan, and they better listen if they want to get out of this alive.
Beca looks up and notices Amy above them, and she can tell that Cynthia Rose has noticed her too by now. So has Chloe. They start ushering the Bellas to the side, making sure they won’t be crushed when Amy jumps down.
The Australian does just that, seconds later. She jumps down and pulls out the fire extinguisher and then everything is pure chaos. The Bellas are running away and jumping off the ship. Beca watches as Chloe runs towards the edge, and she keeps watching until she can see her jumping off. Good. Chloe’s safe.
“Amy! Let’s go!” She yells, running back to her friend and pulling on her sleeve to get her to come with her. She drops the fire extinguisher just as the boat goes up in flames. Amy makes it to the edge and jumps over. Beca, however, falls over because of the blast. The second she hits the deck she realizes that her ankle is broken. Shit. It hurts like hell and there’s nothing she can do. Amy’s father and his men have made it to the side of the boat and are now jumping out into the water as well. She’s now officially the only person left on this boat.
Fuck.
“Do we have everyone?” Aubrey yells as she starts counting the Bellas.
“Beca!” Chloe screams back, her voice already hoarse. “I can’t find Beca.”
“She was right behind me.” Amy responds, not sure what happened.
“Did you see her jumping off?” Chloe pushes, wanting to know what happened. She looks up to the boat, and she can feel her heart starting to beat faster in her chest. Please, please don’t let her still be on that boat.
“Uh. Yeah- No. I don’t know. She was behind me, I think.”
“Amy!”
“I’m sorry, I don’t know, okay! We were both just trying to get off as fast as possible.”
“Let’s yell together.” Aubrey says, and they do.
“BECA!”
She can hear them. She can hear them and they’re so close but she can’t move. She can only drag herself further across the deck, away from the flames which keep getting closer and closer.
She might die.
She might die and she never told Chloe that she loved her.
The flames are really close now, and it’s getting harder to breathe and her ankle is fucking killing her. Plus, she’s tired suddenly. There’s just so much smoke around her. She can’t see them, and their screams are starting to fade away as her eyes fall shut.
The next time Beca opens her eyes she’s in a hospital room. She knows because she can hear the machines beeping in the background, plus she’s laying on a very uncomfortable pillow.
Her ankle is still hurting, but the pain is definitely less now. There’s also a bandage around her wrist, and as she looks down she remembers feeling it hurt earlier. She must have burned herself.
Aubrey’s next to her, asleep.
Out of all the people she thought would be in this room next to her, Aubrey was probably the last of them. Yet, here she is, wrapped in a blanket with her head resting uncomfortably on her own arm.
“Aubrey.” She says, because she’s really thirsty and she needs to know what happened, she needs to know that everyone else is okay and that Fergus is in jail and that they’ll be alright.
The blonde wakes up instantly. “Beca!” She says, sounding relieved, “You’re awake!”
“Looks like I am, yeah. Is everyone-“
“They’re great. Worried about you, of course. The doctor said that you inhaled some smoke, plus you broke your ankle and your wrist has a small burn. It’s nothing too bad though, and you should be totally okay by tomorrow.”
“Good. That’s uh- that’s good.”
Chloe.
That’s all she can think.
She doesn’t want to ask, to seem that desperate, but she needs to see her.
Aubrey seems to understand.
“I’ll get her.” She just says, and Beca nods. She’s too tired to pretend like that’s not what she wanted.
The redhead comes barging into her room minutes later, and Beca can tell she’s been crying.
“Bec!” Chloe screams, jumping onto her bed and wrapping her up in a tight hug. Beca groans, because it does hurt, but when Chloe notices and starts to pull back, she just hugs her tighter and buries her head in the crook of her neck.
“I thought I lost you.” Chloe whispers, and Beca can start to feel the tears streaming down her own face, and by the sound of Chloe’s voice, she’s pretty sure the other woman is crying too.
“I’m not going anywhere, Chlo. You guys aren’t getting rid of me that easily.”
“Good,” Chloe says, finally pulling back. “Because you still have an amazing performance to give.”
She frowns, not quite understanding. “Amy told us that DJ Khaled picked you. You deserve it Becs, we’re your family, we’d never hold you back from something like that.”
“Thank you. I uh- I love you guys.” She didn’t want to add that last word, but she chickened out.
“We love you too. They rescheduled the performance for tomorrow, by the way, so you have some time to rest and everything.”
“That’s great. I think I’ll be okay.”
Chloe nods, then reaches out to wipe away a tear on Beca’s cheek. Her hand lingers, and the brunette can tell she’s desperate for physical contact. Chloe usually is, but especially in situations like this. She can also tell that she’s holding herself back, not wanting to push Beca too much. It’s incredibly sweet, and it makes her love her even more.
She puts a hand on Chloe’s arm and pulls on it slightly. “Come here, you weirdo.”
Chloe is in her arms again in a second. It feels so great, and so right, and she never wants to let go. It’s not something she ever thought she’d want, or need, but with Chloe she does.
She closes her eyes for a second, just enjoying the moment. “So uh- I kinda- I have something I want to tell you.” Beca starts, and Chloe has a feeling what this is about.
Beca must have seen the message on her phone by now.
The brunette holds her tight, trying to gather the courage to say what she wants to say. “I wanted to say that I-“ Right at that moment, Chicago walks into her room. He leans against the wall, smiling softly at her and giving her slight nod as a way of greeting her.
Shit.
Why is she such an idiot?
How could she have forgotten about him?
Of course, Chloe had been with him, of course, she’d run to him for comfort. He was the one she wanted, not her.
“Beca?” The redhead asks, her arms still wrapped around Beca. From their position, Chloe can’t see Chicago, but she can feel how stiff the other woman’s body has become in their hug.
“Are you okay? Did I hurt you?”
She pulls back then, staring into Beca’s eyes.
“No uh, I’m okay. I just- I guess I just wanted to say that I’m happy for you.”
Chloe frowns. “Why?”
“Because of him.” She says, lowering her voice so that he won’t hear. “I think you and Chicago could have something really special. I’m happy for you, Chlo.”
Finally, Chloe notices that Beca is staring at something behind her. She turns around and there’s Chicago, smiling sweetly at her and giving her a small wave. “Beca, wait. I don’t understand.. what about the message?”
Beca shakes her head. “I uh. I just need to rest. Can you just leave me alone now? Please?”
She pulls away from her friend completely and slides down under the covers and on her side, facing away from Chloe.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” Her voice sounds unsteady, she knows, and she can’t stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks. She’s sure Chloe notices, but she doesn’t even care.
“Let’s give Ms. Mitchell the rest she needs.” She can hear Chicago say, and although Chloe doesn’t answer, she can picture her wrapping her arm around Chicago’s waist as they leave her room.
She doesn’t see Chloe again until the next evening. She’s been discharged from the hospital, and Amy came and picked her up.
When they get there, she’s excited. Despite everything happening with Chloe, she’s happy to see her friends (alive and well) and to be able to do this. Even on crutches it’s pretty awesome.
Her eyes land on Chloe, who’s sitting next to Chicago, and she looks away instantly. It’s too painful.
She focuses on her performance, which goes amazing, and she even invites the other Bellas up on the stage with her. It’s odd, because Chloe is keeping her distance from her and she doesn’t know what to do with it. Sure, it was her who pushed the other woman away yesterday, but she thought that Chloe would be happy about what she said.
She tries to get to her once she’s done singing, but the redhead is too fast and is already gone by the time Beca makes her way over towards where she was before.
“Beca.” Amy says, moving to stand in front of her. She really doesn’t want to deal with this right now, no matter how much she likes her friend. “I just wanted to give you this.” The blonde says, pushing something into her hand. It’s her phone.
“Where did you find this? I’ve been looking all over for it.”
“You left it on the boat. It must have, you know, fallen out of your pocket when you became intimate with the deck. The police handed it over to me.”
“Thanks, Amy!”
The blonde salutes her and then walks off.
She opens up her messages, surprised she has a missed one from Chloe, and starts to read.
Her heart starts pounding as she reads the message. She can’t believe this is happening, can’t believe she’s actually reading this.
Her palms are sweaty and suddenly, the crutches don’t feel strong enough to hold her up. She needs to lean against a wall, needs to find a way to breathe.
‘It can’t be without me telling you that I love you.’
She reads it over and over and over again. Her ankle is hurting, now that she’s only really using the one crutch to find a place where she can hide. Away from the others, away from the music, away from it all.
‘I love you Beca.’
Chloe loves Beca.
And Chloe thought that Beca had read her message, that is clear now from what she had said in the hospital room.
Which means that Chloe thought Beca didn’t love her back.
It’s almost too painful to handle. Her heart is beating fast and it physically hurts to breathe. And walk.
She needs to find Chloe right now.
It seems like the universe is listening to her, because right at that moment, Chloe comes walking towards her from another direction, but she doesn’t see her, and she’s dragging Chicago along with her. They’re laughing about something, but Beca can tell that it’s not an honest laugh. She’s known Chloe for a while now, she can tell what’s real and what isn’t. Honestly, she looks like she’s hurting too.
‘I wish I’d had the chance to tell you.’
Beca feels the same way now, except that maybe, if she plays her cards right, she will get a chance to tell her.
But she needs to hurry. Because Chicago has that look on his face and he’s putting his arms around Chloe’s waist and pulling her closer and Beca knows what’s going to happen.
But it’s not too late, not this time.
She pulls up Chloe’s contact information and calls her.
Just as Chicago is leaning in, she can hear her friend’s phone ringing. She knows she could have just walked over, interrupted them, but she needs Chloe to make this decision, she needs to know that she still has a chance to make this right.
“Just ignore it.” Chicago says, still leaning in.
Chloe smiles, but then shakes her head. “It could be important.”
Beca can see the frown on her face as she reads her name. “Well, is it?” He asks.
She looks up to him, and then back at her phone a couple of times, clearly unsure what to do. Beca knows she’s fighting a battle within. If she’s smart she doesn’t answer, because Chloe still thinks Beca’s not interested, and if she truly wanted to move past it, to make a better future for herself, she wouldn’t answer.
So Beca hopes she proves her wrong. Beca hopes she stays true to who she is.
“I’m sorry,” Chloe says, “I have to answer this.”
She moves away from him a little, and Beca has to step further away to avoid being seen.
“Beca.” She sounds annoyed. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Sorry about what?”
“I’m sorry about what I said yesterday. I didn’t mean it; I didn’t want to say that. But I had no idea. I didn’t know yet but now I do and I just have to tell you.”
There’s a small pause, and Beca can see that Chloe has brought her hand up to her mouth. She looks confused, and upset.
“I don’t understand, Bec.” She can hear her voice breaking, and clearly, so can Chicago, because he’s reaching out for her now, but she shakes her head and pulls away from him.
“I didn’t have my phone, Chlo. I didn’t have my phone until just now. It was on the boat, the police found it.”
Her eyes widen, and Beca can see that she understands what’s happening.
“You mean you hadn’t-“
“I didn’t read the message until just now.”
Chloe’s full on crying now, and she moves to sit on a bench. Chicago moves with her, but she refuses his comfort once again.
“Listen, Chloe, I’m sorry. I’m sorry if this is too much and you want to think, or be with him, or whatever. But I love you. I love you too and I just wanted to let you know that it’s not too late. We’re not dead. You have a chance to tell me. And you don’t have to do it right now, because I know you’re with him and-“
“Wait,” Chloe interrupts, “how do you know?”
“Oh.” Beca answers, “I’m kinda stalking you right now. Sorry. Not on purpose, I promise.”
Chloe chuckles. “Where?”
“Behind the pillar. But don’t look too fast.”
Chloe waits a moment, and then looks over. She sees her. It’s hard because it’s a little far away, and Beca’s standing in the darkness, but there she is. She smiles.
“Think about it, will you? I’m going back to my hotel room.”
“Okay.”
“I love you, Chloe.”
She hangs up then.
“I uh- I have to go.” Chloe says after a few minutes of silence. She’s sure Beca is too far gone to see them now, which gives her the freedom to say what she wants to say.
“Yeah. I was afraid.”
She smiles softly. “It’s just.. she needs me.”
“She loves you, you know.”
She whips her head around, her eyes widening as she looks at him. “How do you- why do you think that?”
He smiles at her. “Everything, really. The way she’s always looking where you are, the way she places a hand on your lower back, or how she stares at you when you’re not looking, the way she closed her eyes and smiled when she hugged you yesterday.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. I just didn’t know you loved her back.”
She doesn’t know what to say, so she opts for a simple. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” He answers finally. “Don’t worry about me. I mean, this was fun, but it’s not that.”
She looks up at him and smiles. “Thank you.”
“No problem, now go get your girl.”
Beca’s been sitting in her hotel room by herself for about fifteen minutes now. Chloe still hasn’t shown up.
Just as she’s about to give up there’s a knock at her door.
“The door’s open.” She says, because getting up with her ankle is really too much of a struggle.
The door’s pushed open, and then Chloe is walking in, smiling brighter than Beca has seen her smile in months.
“Beca.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You’ve said that.”
“I love you.”
“You’ve said that too.”
“Are you complaining?”
“No. I love you too.”
Beca smiles. “Come over here, please.”
Chloe does. She rushes over towards the bed and stands in front of Beca, who manages to push herself into an upright position, holding onto Chloe’s arms to steady herself.
“Does it hurt?”
“A little, but it’s worth it. I want you to kiss me, and then I want you to do much more than kissing, until it’s the morning, and then I want to get on a plane back to Brooklyn with you and continue waking up to you every morning while I press a kiss to your mouth and tell you that you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”
Chloe chuckles. “Where’s my Beca and what have you done with her?”
The brunette laughs too. “She fell in love with you.”
Chloe doesn’t know how to respond to that, so instead she just leans in and presses her lips against Beca’s. Beca whimpers and deepens the kiss almost immediately, her tongue tracing the redhead’s lower lip until she lets her in and their tongues meet for the first time.
It’s amazing. It’s so much better than she thought it would be, which she never thought was possible in the first place.
Beca’s ankle is starting to hurt though, so she pulls back from the kiss. “Hey so uh, I don’t want to be too forward, but my ankle is kinda really killing me here. Do you think that we could continue this on the bed?”
Chloe smiles. “I’d love that.”
They kiss again, softly this time.
“I’m so glad you didn’t die.”
Beca laughs. “Well, keep kissing me like that, and I still might.”
And honestly? Dying like this wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Chapter 15
Beca woke up early on Friday morning full of nerves and excitement.
Tonight was her first official date with Chloe.
Even though Chloe was just coming over to her house like she'd done loads of times before, she still felt nervous. This was the first time they'd be hanging out just the two of them as something other than friends.
She showered and dressed quickly, and when she got downstairs she found her dad had made her breakfast.
"Morning," he said, sipping his coffee as he read the paper.
"Morning," she replied. "You didn't have to make me breakfast."
He shrugged. "You made dinner last night."
"True," she said, sitting down and started buttering her toast.
"So," he said, putting the paper down, "tonight."
"What about it?"
"What's the plan?"
"The plan?" She asked. "Well, Chloe's going to come over after school, and we're going to hangout in the den."
"I trust you'll want me to stay out of the way?" He asked.
Beca shrugged. "You can say hello," she said. "It's probably a good idea to meet her."
"Have you met her parents yet?"
Beca shook her head, her mouth full of coffee. She swallowed. "I haven't been to her house yet. I'm going over for dinner next Sunday."
He nodded. "I'll say hello then, and then just leave you guys to it. I'll leave you some money for pizza or something."
"Thanks," she said. She checked her phone. "I'd better go."
She ran upstairs, brushed her teeth, and then grabbed her bag and car keys.
"Bye buddy," she said, ruffling Jasper's head. "See you later," she shouted to her dad.
"Have a good day," he replied.
It felt like the day would never end.
Every time they passed each other in the corridor, Beca and Chloe would give each other a shy smile.
"Dude, you two are adorable," Benji said as they sat down at their table for lunch.
"What?" Beca asked, tearing her eyes away from Chloe who was sat at a nearby table with Aubrey and Stacie.
"You've been grinning at each other all day," he said, laughing at her. "Tonight is the official date, right?"
"Ah ha," Beca said, smiling again.
"What are we talking about?" Jesse asked, taking a seat at the table.
Beca felt herself tense and her smile dropped.
"Beca's first official date with Chloe tonight," Benji said. He knew there was still some tension between his two friends, but he hoped that they would resolve it soon. He was tired of feeling like he was walking on egg shells.
"Oh," Jesse said, trying not to show the sudden feeling of deflation he'd got. "What do you have planned?"
"We're just going to hang out at my place," she said.
He smiled and shook his head. "You need up your game, Mitchell," he said. "What happened to fancy restaurants and movies and late night strolls holding hands."
"Well, number one, I don't like movies. Number two, I can't afford fancy restaurants. Number three, she doesn't even really like going out to eat. Number four, girls can't take late night strolls," she said.
"Why not?" He asked, confused.
"Because there are these people called men, and they make it difficult for girls to walk around at night," she said.
He opened his mouth to say 'not all men' but thought better of it and closed it.
"Fair enough," he said.
Beca was almost relieved when the bell rang indicating the end of lunch.
She started getting butterflies during the last ten minutes of their final lesson. Chloe was sitting just a few desks away, and every so often she kept glancing over. The redhead looked as nervous as she felt.
"Beca, can I have a word?" Ms. Abernathy-Mckadden said as the bell signifying the end of school rang.
Beca, who had already stood up and grabbed her bag, glanced at Chloe.
"I'll meet you at your car," Chloe said.
Beca nodded and walked over to Abernathy-Mckadden's desk.
"What's up?" She asked.
"You seemed distracted today, is everything okay?" The teacher asked.
"Yeah," Beca said. "I just have a thing tonight."
"I just wanted to check things were okay with you," she said.
"Why wouldn't they be?" Beca asked, eager to get this conversation over so she could leave.
"Your grades have slipped on these last couple of papers I've asked you all to write," she said. "I've had a word with some of the other teachers and they've all seen similar drops in your work."
"Right," Beca said. "Um, sorry about that. I guess I haven't been studying as much as I should have."
"It's not a big deal right now," she said. "But you know you'll be taking your mid-terms in a few weeks and I'd hate to see this dip affect your college chances."
"Yeah, uh, thanks. I'll keep on top of it," she said. "Can I... ?" She gestured towards the door.
"Yes," she said. "Have a good weekend, Beca."
"You too," Beca said, as she hurried out of the class.
She was feeling angry at herself as she left the school and headed for the parking lot. If her dad found out her grades were slipping he'd go mad. It was the one thing he was strict about. It wasn't that she was particularly bothered since she wasn't planning on going to college anyway, but it was the easiest way to keep him happy and out of her hair.
The feeling of anger melted away as she saw Chloe waiting by her truck.
Chloe looked up from her phone and smiled as Beca walked towards her.
"What was that about?" She asked.
Beca shook her head. "She said I seemed distracted today. She wanted to make sure I was okay, I guess." She'd decided she wasn't going to tell Chloe the full story. She didn't want her to feel like she was being a distraction. "So, do you need to pick up anything from your house?"
"Nope, I am all ready for our date," she said.
"Cool," Beca replied, driving them out of the parking lot and away from school.
Chloe looked nervous when Beca finally pulled into her drive.
"Okay?" Beca asked.
Chloe nodded and smiled. "Just nervous. This is the first time I've done anything like this, so... Yeah."
"This is your first first date?" Beca asked. Chloe nodded. "Me too. I guess we'll figure it out together?"
"Yeah," Chloe said. She went to open the car door door.
"Wait," Beca said, quickly scrambling out of the car and rushing around to her side. She opened the door and held out her hand to Chloe. "M'lady," she said.
Chloe laughed. "You're a dork," she said, taking Beca's hand.
"A very chivalrous dork," Beca said. "Ready to meet my dad?"
"Ah ha," Chloe said, still holding Beca's hand. Beca squeezed it before she let them into the house.
At the sound of the door, Jasper came running into the hallway. Her dad came out of the kitchen a few seconds after.
"Dad," Beca said, "this is Chloe. Chloe, this is my dad."
"Nice to meet you, Chloe," he said.
"You too," Chloe said.
The was a few more minutes of awkward small talk before Beca suggested they take Jasper for a walk before it got too dark.
"I can do that," her dad said. "You girls go and do whatever it is you kids do. Play on your Pokemon Go's or whatever." He winked at Beca and she rolled her eyes but smiled.
"See you dad," she said. She put her hand on Chloe's back and they went into the den. "So," she said, "I can order in some food for dinner if you like, or I can make us something. I mean, I don't want to brag, but I make a pretty mean grilled cheese."
Chloe laughed. "Wow, grilled cheese? Who needs fancy restaurants when they've got you."
"What can I say? I'm practically Gordon Ramsey," she said. "I just need the accent and a fouler mouth."
"Grilled cheese sounds great," Chloe said. "But just a small one."
Beca looked like she wanted to say something, but just smiled instead. "You wanna come keep me company?"
Chloe nodded and they went into the kitchen.
After they finished their food and watched a few episodes of Parks and Rec, they were both feeling more relaxed.
"Okay," Beca said, pausing the TV, "what do you wanna do now? We can watch a movie or something if you want?"
"Can we listen to some of your music?" Chloe asked.
"Sure," Beca said. "I haven't made any new stuff for a bit, but there's probably stuff on there you haven't heard."
Beca dashed upstairs for her laptop and bumped into her dad on the way back down.
"How's it going?" He asked.
"Good," Beca said. "Great."
He gave her a thumbs up and headed for his room.
Beca rejoined Chloe in the den and told Chloe to make a play list.
The songs she picked were quite mellow, and the pair ended up lounging on the sofa together, the music playing quietly. At some point, Beca had dimmed the lights so it wasn't so bright.
"What's one thing you've wanted to do that you've not had the chance to do yet?" Beca asked after a few songs.
Chloe thought for a bit. "I've always wanted to see the stars."
"I'm not sure if anyone's told you yet, but you know you literally just have to look up, right?" Beca asked.
Chloe laughed and hit her in the arm. "Shut up," she said. "I mean, like, properly see them. Not here with all this light pollution. But out in the country somewhere."
Beca smiled and tucked a strand of Chloe's hair behind her ear. "That actually sounds pretty good."
"How about you?" Chloe asked.
"I dunno," Beca said. "I guess I've always wanted to deejay. Like, play my music for people. Watch them dance in a club or something to a mix I've mad. That'd be pretty cool."
"Well you're definitely good enough," Chloe said.
"Thanks."
Then they were quiet. Just enjoying being together.
When the music stopped, Chloe sat up and picked some more to play.
"You're really pretty," Beca said. "You know that, right?"
Chloe turned to look at her.
"You're not half bad yourself."
Beca sat up so that they were eye level with each other. She tucked another strand of Chloe's hair behind her ear.
"I really like you," Beca said, quietly.
Chloe swallowed. "I really like you too," she whispered.
Beca glanced down to see Chloe's hands clenched together in her lap.
"Did you know that you clench your hands together when something's stressing you out?" Beca said, taking her hands and softly rubbing them so they relaxed.
"I guess I do," Chloe said, laughing nervously.
Beca leaned across and kissed her forehead. "We don't have to do anything," she said, softly. "I don't want to do anything that's going to make you stressed."
"Sorry," Chloe said, letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding. "It's just that, it felt like we were going to kiss, and I've never... I've not done that before."
"It's okay, don't apologise," Beca said. "I've only done it once. Well, twice if you include Jesse, which I don't."
"It's not that I don't want to," Chloe said.
"It's okay," Beca said again. "You don't have to explain."
Chloe smiled and shook her head. Tears had started filling her eyes.
"This is embarrassing," she said, wiping them.
"Come here," Beca said, gently pulling her so they were lying on the sofa together again, liked they'd done many times before. "Okay?" She asked after a few seconds.
"More than okay," Chloe said.
"Is there anything you need?"
"No," Chloe said. "This is perfect. You're perfect."
Beca smiled and closed her eyes. She knew that soon they'd have to get up and she'd have to drive Chloe home. She knew that she'd have to spend the rest of the night on her own, probably studying so she could try and catch up. She knew that this beautiful moment was only temporary. But Chloe was right, it was perfect.

[this is a repost of this, which broke bc this website is bad.]
so, i have long held the belief that there are no cis/straight characters in the adventure zone. i decided that i wanted to compile some proof. if i put together everything that implies an lgbt character it would be like 3 hours long, so instead i put together everything that actually confirms it, either by directly stating or by giving a relationship with another character. put in chronological order bc that was the easiest way to figure out. here it is. enjoy.
transcript:
Griffin: I definitely fucked up in that like, the Bury Your Gays trope with the Ram and Raven, Hurley and Sloane, at the end of the Petals to the Metal arc. When I was writing it, I was like, “Oh it’s the first romance in the show, I’ll give it a tragic ending,” without knowing that there was this whole fucking, like, that’s how most gay and lesbian relationships in media end, is with tragic endings.
Griffin: One thing I kinda want to make clear, we’re gonna learn a lot more about Lup in this session, and pretty much on through the rest of the campaign, but I wanted to say as long as we’re talking about your backstory that the two of you are twins, and that Lup was assigned male at birth, but at a fairly young age she transitioned and identified as a female elf, and as, you know, as Lup. Which I only mention because like, we’re talking about your backstory and having a difficult childhood or whatever, I don’t really- it’s your call, but I don’t really want that backstory to be like, you had a traumatic childhood because of your identities, or whatever, because I think that would be shitty, but rather just like, it’s a tough world.
Griffin: This is a question from Katja, who says, “I have a very important question to Travis about Aubrey Little: Is she a lesbian?” Travis: So, I based Aubrey on four people, right? She’s named after Aubrey Plaza, and she is pierced and tattooed like my friends Verona, Tybee, and Kate. And so, all four of those people are bisexual. So it was just kind of in my head, it wasn’t really a decision I made but as I was picturing Aubrey, and basing her off those four people, she just was bisexual. So to answer your question Katja, she is bisexual, like all four of those people.
