Ozai's Angels + Shān (ATLA OC)😄
Tumblr media
Azula's Team a.k.a Ozai's Angels, with the addition of my one & only ATLA OC, Shān🫢(You may check this post for brief information regarding Shān🤭)
Apparently, Shān invited himself to join Team Azula, because, according to him, if she EVER needed him, he would always be there for her, though he is well aware that Azula is more than capable of looking after herself😆 He did the reasoning by himself by the way!
Also, he just wants to be by her side as many times as possible and as permissible by Azula~ And he was glad when the entire Team Azula were more than welcoming him as part of the team, especially the enthusiastic Ty Lee🥰
Poses reference here😊❤️✨️

Alternate take of the Sozin's Comet battle with a question at the end
It takes place at the end of season 4, air. The comet arrives at the finale. (Season 3 ends with only the final agni kai but without the comet.) The lion turtle doesn't pop out of nowhere to give Aang energybending, he figures it out for himself. Iroh and Ursa are bio-siblings because Sozin reigns throughout the war he started, he's Zuko and Azula's father now and is in peak prime condition despite his old age. Azulon and Ozai do not exist but Sozin commits their respective atrocities for them after committing his own and their firebending levels are added to Sozin's.
Aang and Sozin do a 1v1 battle at first. It's mostly the same but Sozin proves to be much tougher and deadlier due to many more years of experience in firebending and warfare, in addition to learning from dragons as well as slaying them.
As he redirects Sozin's lightning, Aang accidentally releases it early while the lightning is pointed right at Sozin but he bends over backward and dodges the lightning.
Aang uses almost everything he's learned throughout the series to survive the fight but Sozin manages to keep up and Aang is beaten and he loses to him.
The rest of Team Avatar show up. Azula, Zuko, Katara, Sokka, Suki, Ty Lee, Mai, and Toph are the prime members. Aang gets back up and fights alongside the team. Again, every member uses everything they learned, and they throw everything they have at Sozin, some members attack him out of rage and aggression, but he holds his own, and the team is eventually beaten down.
Aang conceals himself and the gaang into the Earth orb thing. It's bigger than before, just to fit more people in. Aang meditates as he tries to maintain the orb. Aang makes sure all his chakras are open and he enters the avatar state all on his own with complete control.
Sozin manages to destroy the Earth orb but Aang emerges almost the same way as before, but he says "Fire Lord Sozin! You have devastated the balance of this world, and now you shall pay the ultimate price!"
They duel once again. Sozin was still very strong and could hold his own against Aang. But with the spirits and experiences of all avatars before him empowering him, Aang slowly begins to overpower Sozin and gain the upper hand. The avatar's attacks are more aggressive, most likely due to Aang and Roku's respective anger.
Sozin finally loses and is beaten down. Aang exits the avatar state and stands in front of him while he's down. The rest of the gaang stand before him as well after they get back up. What happens next?

No Way But Forward
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Character: Azula
Word Count: 2k
Publish Date: 9/3/22
Warnings: Mentions of previous self-harm, suicidal attempt, abuse
Major Tags: Modern AU, Redemption, Angst with a Happy Ending, PTSD, Loving Family, Iroh and Zuko are Good Family, Azula was 14 Years Old
Summary:
9 things about Modern AU Azula, a 19 year old living with her uncle above his tea shop.
Azula has survived a lot of terrible things- her father's abuse, her mother's emotional distance, a psychotic break- but she's determined to fight the demons and find herself.
Read "No Way But Forward" on AO3 or keep reading
A/N: This character study was a fun little exercise that, as I mass upload my old works without editing, I can look fondly back upon. Please be kind, and enjoy.
1.) Her favorite color is red
It’s a swelteringly hot night in August when she realizes that she likes seeing herself in the red lighting of a restaurant sign. Her hands shoving a debit card back into her clutch purse, swimming in red. Her body, nails, clothes, hair, soul: all illuminated, painted in red. Not scarlet, not burgundy, not crimson. Just the red of Fire Nation’s Best- just like her.
The thought surprises her, curling in her chest. There’s so much of her life that was handed forced down onto her by her father that she often doesn’t know where he has bled into her. Is her favorite food really Beijing Kaoya, or did she like the way Ozai made Zuko eat it every first Sunday of the month, tears streaming down his face from eating his favorite animal? Does she really like to play the piano, or did something deep inside her collapse in on itself after the 10,001st hour of practice? When she had tried to end everything, did she really want to die or did his voice drown out every reason why she wanted to live?
But this- the color that adorned every room in her childhood- this she knows she likes, so she buys a cheap color changing light and decides to bathe her room in the color. It goes on every night at sunset and stays on even as she sleeps. When she goes to the bathroom, it spills from the small crack under her door and trickles down the hallway. Iroh doesn’t say anything, but he starts working on brewing a new tea that steeps into a pure red. A little figure of a red dragon appears on her desk a few weeks later. He writes the notes he leaves her in red ink. Shuffled into her growing collection is a new paint palette of different shades of red.
Azula kisses his cheek one day before he opens the store and the red stain of her lips is still there when he’s falling asleep on the couch to some Asian drama show.
Zuko, she can tell, is a bit more concerned. His scar is more immediately noticeable, but her marks run like silver slits of a knife down her face. Once they were red, the same red that stayed under her fingernails for a whole day until the nurses sedated her enough to scrub them clean. She’s sure there was more red soaked into her bed sheets and carpet.
Apparently wounds on the face bleed more than anywhere else. She doubts that Zuko will ever forget that fun little fact- nor her chopped hair, bloody-clawed-raw face or screams she let out.He eyes the red of her lipstick and nails and shirts and comforter like he’s approaching a wild animal.
He relaxes once she paints a red bird flying free from broken chains: heavy handed to make sure it gets through his thick skull, but at least he gets the message.
2.) Just because there are mostly good nights, doesn’t mean the bad nights are magically cured
Her hands shake as she wedges herself between the couch and the wall. It’s a tight squeeze. Not the tightest she’s ever managed to escape Ozai, though. She’s done crazier things to dodge his fists and his temper.
“This is fine,” she tells herself. “The tighter I ball up, the less he can hit.”
Aang’s taking it decently well, considering how little they know each other, but his eyes are wild as they search for Iroh or Zuko or honestly anyone more qualified to handle her.
She presses her back against the wall and feels the solidness on three sides.
Good, good.
Now if he comes to attack her, she only has to defend one side. It’s somewhat disadvantageous to be cornered like this, but since her front is the only side open, he’ll have to come into her field of vision before he attacks and if she can see Ozai she can-
Aang’s hands wrap gently around her own and pull them to his own chest. He breathes slowly and she pretends to listen to whatever bullshit he’s spewing about focusing on her surroundings. Still, she can’t help but match her admittedly feral breathing down to his annoyingly calm pace. Her mind races as she presses herself back further into the corner, though.
The room is deathly silent for a few moments.
“I feel like I’m spinning out of control. I’m not even doing anything, but it still feels I’m still losing my grip again.”
Aang continues breathing in his nose and out through his mouth. He takes a beat.
“I don’t understand, but if you want to keep talking I want to keep listening,” he says.
She snorts lightly. Ever the diplomat, just like Zuko described him.
When Zuko and Iroh come back from the pizza place 20 minutes later, she’s telling him about the way her Mom used to laugh on the rare occasion that it happened.
3.) Azula rescues the dumpster cat from behind the Jasmine Dragon, not Iroh.
It used to be so dangerous to like things when Ozai was around. It was only a guarantee that one day he would turn around and snuff it out before eyes or throw it back in her face. Hobbies, people and pets included.
So the first time she sees his curious little brown face with the huge blown pupils peeking at her from behind the corner, she ignores him. Every day after her shift for the next two weeks, though, she sees the same damn cat. No matter how much she stomps her foot in his direction or hisses at him in order to scare him off, he doesn’t leave. On the eighth day, she decides if he’s going to be such a stubborn pain in the ass, she might as well leave him the can of cat food she happened to pick up while grocery shopping with Iroh.
Not because she likes him. It’s only because she doesn’t want rats out by the garbage and the little shit is keeping them away. It’s not like he’s cute or anything.
A month later, the bell on his collar is a familiar sound around the shop and he’s been poked by so many needles that he might even be immune to Death itself.
Azula lets him curl up by her feet at night, breathing softly and slowly. It reminds her of when she was little and would crawl into Zuko’s bed after a nightmare.
She names the cat Zuzu just to fuck with him.
4.) She likes having her head shaved
The first time she did it was purely out of practicality. After her lost battle with the infamous pair of scissors, her long hair was too unevenly chunky to be salvaged. The nurse gave her a pixie cut to “help”, but was worse because it looked closer to a catholic monk’s bowl-cut than anything else. It had to come off. She went into the bathroom with hair one night and walked out with only the shortest of stubble.
At first, it’s shameful.
Of course, she has a great head shape and her face is more than beautiful enough to carry it, scars or not. Azula could wear her hair however she wants and she’ll make it look pretty.
That’s not the issue. It’s just- her hair was like a crown. Always perfect and in place. Naturally pin straight and the perfect black-brown. It’s actually that thought that frees her, though. She likes letting go of that perfection, of that pressurized tank.
Azula lets it grow out a few inches until she confirms what she already knows: the shaved head is staying.
She lets her the rest of her hair grow long (because okay, sue her, it’s not the most flattering haircut she’s ever had) and ropes in Zuko’s talkative roommate Sokka to teach her how to shave the right side of her head.
It’s an odd scene. Azula and Sokka sit on the floor on a trash bag while Zuko holds one of those cheap full-length mirrors up so she can see how to part the hair properly and cut it cleanly.
Toph, with the sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude she respects, is sprawled at the end of the couch with her one leg thrown over the side. She throws little sarcastic comments at Sokka’s instructions and Azula can’t help but crack and small smile.
Next to her sits Aang and his Watertribe girlfriend (Sokka's sister, she's 85% sure?) who are chatting loudly with Sokka’s jujitsu girlfriend and Iroh about how the different languages of the nations overlap and differentiate.
Azula feels like she’s inserted herself into a puzzle that’s long been put together, but she still fits. And she doesn’t mind fitting in, either. Also, her hair looks sick as fuck and is only going to look cooler as the rest grows longer.
5.) She still needs her big brother sometimes
Zuko lays gently down on the floor next to her.  On their sides, they face each other. Scarred and older in the face than they should be.
“I’m always going to love you, Zula. You know that, right? I’m always going to be your big brother.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.”
And that’s enough.
6.) She’s OBSESSED with True Crime Podcasts
It’s nice to see how peaceful she looks with her headphones in at lunchtime or washing dishes after the café closes, until Zuko realizes what she’s listening to. Apparently, listening to horrific retellings of 40-year-old bald white men murder their entire families and random women is the perfect thing to eat turkey sandwiches and clean teacups to.
7.) Azula still has the pictures of Ty Lee and Mai hanging on her wall
They haven’t talked in years, but she still has their pictures hanging on the corkboard above her desk. In one, they’re frozen in time as high school sophomores before the Homecoming dance, genuinely smiling for once. In another, Ty Lee is in her stage makeup with her arms flung around Mai and Azula. A third has Mai and Zuko blushing on the front porch before their first date, long before they decided they needed a break to find themselves.
She knows she fucked up, but she still loves them. She’s learning that it’s okay to love someone and want the world for them and still recognize that they don’t have to forgive you and let you back in. Sometimes you just have to let people go and love them like the moon loves the ocean. Always distant, but always constant. She hopes they’re doing well.
8.) Azula absolutely has a record collection.
On rainy days, which happen so much more here in the Earth Kingdom, she turns them on and lays on the floor. She lets them wash over her, lets herself think about everything.
She plays Billie Eilish, Halsey, Miley Cyrus for herself.
Fall Out Boy and Hozier on the days she wants to remember Mai. One Direction and 5SOS on the days that Ty Lee swims in her head.
Arctic Monkeys for Zuko- replays “Arabella” three times. Old musicals like “Singin’ in the Rain” and folk music of the different nations for Iroh. Beethoven, Xian Xinghai, Mozart, Chou Wen-Chung and the like for the days she wants to remember her mother. Her favorite composition is still Fur Elise, likes to glide her fingers through the air like they’re sliding over an invisible piano.
She starts throwing in Bob Marley for Aang and 80’s rock bands with a splash of Tame Impala for Sokka. Toph, the DAMN. album from Kendrick. And on the extremely infrequent occasion she wants to think about her father- the rarest of rare good times on Ember Island- she plays Elvis.
9.) She’s thinking about moving to Omashu.
Ba Sing Se is fine, lightyears ahead of Caldera or anywhere else in the Fire Nation. And sure, she likes living with Iroh. Likes hearing his snoring down the hall and his laugh, smelling his teas around the clock and feeling the warmth of his bear hugs.
Still, there’s something tugging in her chest. Here in Ba Sing Se, she’s That Girl. Iroh’s niece, Zuko’s sister, the one that showed up with gashes running down her face one afternoon and never left. The Crazy One. The One That Occasionally Loses Her Temper. The Scary One.
She’s never felt more like herself before, but she knows deep within that her growth is limited here. She needs to find “Azula” out there, and what better place to do it than Omashu University while getting a degree?
She thinks that she’ll pitch it to Iroh when summer rolls around, work on her application in the meantime. She has the money from the inheritance Ozai left her. What better way to spend blood money?
But until the summer, she’ll just enjoy her life as it is. Working in the tea shop during the week, watching TV on the couch with Iroh at night and filling her weekends with visiting Zuko’s (her?) friends.

Hidden Masks
Zuko wears a mask since he got his scar, so no one from the gaang recognizes him, causing him to infiltrate the group to try and catch the Avatar
Just a Man
Zuko is kidnapped by Hakoda as a baby on vacation at Ember Island. Hakoda raises him as his own.
Jet Sucks (name wip)
Jet kidnaps Zuko and Sokka, causing them to become reluctant allies that escape together.
Of Pirated Princes
Zuko gets kidnapped by pirates and is sold to Hakoda and crew, though they don't believe that he is actually Prince Zuko. They offer to take him home and end up keeping him while they look for his uncle with him.
A Flame Snuffed Out
Zuko gets amnesia after hitting his head too hard in the North Pole. The Gaang convince him that he was planning on teaching Aang firebending and take him with them for book two.
Salvage/TAOB w/Sokka (name wip)
Zuko gets purposefully captured by the Southern Water Tribe in order to get information about their war efforts, only to bond with Chief Hakoda and his son Sokka.
The Blue Spirit of Ba Sing Se
Zuko is permanently banished from the Fire Nation, so his uncle takes him to Ba Sing Se to live as war refugees. Zuko eventually becomes the vigilante known as the Blue Spirit.
Lying with Honor
Azula stands up to Ozai after he burns Zuko and ends up banished in her brother's place.
Moon Spirit Sokka
Sokka and Yue are swapped. Zuko is tasked with taking down the Northern Water Tribe and ends up falling in love with their prince.
Its a Long, Long Way to Ba Sing Se
After Katara decides to take her mini vacation away from the gang while they go to a library, she runs into Zuko in the Misty Palms Oasis. Before long, they both get chased by two random men (were those Toph's teachers?) and have to team up and travel to Ba Sing Se together.

some more spitballing for the kyoshi twins AU:
Zuko laps up basically any crumbs he can get re: firebending. he's never had any formal training, but he's eager to learn. When Iroh temporarily joins them in Ba Sing Se, he throws himself into learning from him (while Aang is... more hesitant).
Instead of Katara staying behind to help with the invasion plan, Zuko ends up being the one to stay behind. Katara and Sokka both go see their father, while Suki returns to Full Moon Bay to help out the Kyoshi Warriors.
(just in time to get captured by a certain princess)
Zuko sees through Azula's disguise right away, and (very ironically) demands to know what she's done with his sister. He doesn't win their fight (but his new fire breathing trick definitely takes her off guard), and is captured.
With every member of the Gaang away, Azula is able to pull off her coup without any interference. Then she simply waits for them to return. She is unaware her Uncle is in Ba Sing Se, however, and that is ultimately what foils her plan to capture the Avatar upon his return.
Aang is successfully able to unlock his chakras this time, but unfortunately, it's not enough to stop Azula from shooting him full of lightning.
Azula doesn't deal with the prisoner transport herself, which means the person who is actually in charge of it makes the very, very bad mistake of putting Suki and Zuko on the same ship. They break out on their own... just as Hakoda's forces arrive to take over that very same ship. They just stare at each other for a few moments, before they shrug and team up.
hakoda: captured that fire nation ship you wanted, Sokka.
sokka: great! now we just need to figure out what happened to Suki and Zuko.
hakoda: no need. we found them too.
Zuko is completely oblivious to the concept of people finding him attractive. This is because back on Kyoshi Island, everyone knew him as Suki's awkward as hell brother.
If you don't think Suki and Zuko wear matching outfits all the time, you are dead wrong. They just kind of got into the habit of it on Kyoshi Island since most everyone dresses the same.

Some tf2 shenanigans . Some sillays
Original scene (it’s from the captain underpants Netflix show and it’s a funny series I promise): friendship separation anxiety
ATLA au ideas under cut
Pauling scout and medic are kind of the og team avatar. Found him on the far far outskirts of the northern water tribe. Heavy (an earth bender constantly utilising seismic sense) and Engineer (who comes from a long line of secret metalbenders) would basically serve as Toph and the replacement for both team Azula and Zuko would be soldier demo and sniper (soldier having refined expertise in fire jet propulsion trying to get back after exiled from the fire nation army, demo cursed by spirits to be a combustion bender trying to please his ma, sniper a former yuyan archer trying to earn back the fire lord’s good graces). Pyro is very obviously a fire bender who likes the spirits a bit too much. Spy’s scout’s father who spent the past 100 years in the spirit realm trying to find his wife. yeah I think that’s everyone

AU where Zuko joins Katara instead of Azula during The Crossroads of Destiny.
Hello, @wingchunwaterbender !!! Thanks for the second ask I’m loving these aus!!!
1. In the catacombs, Zuko actually listens to Iroh and turns against Azula. In doing so, he guarantees a success for Aang and Katara because Azula is now on her own. Azula tries to escape but Zuko tells them to stop her, claiming she has control of the Dai Li. Aang earthbends any exits closed and Katara grabs Azula’s leg and arm with waterbending, freezing the water around her and making her unable to move. They escape with her as a prisoner so that the Dai Li don’t attack them then get the Dai Li to stand down. With Azula captured and Aang not dead, Ba Sing Se is returned to Kuei’s control.
2. Since Zuko didn’t betray them this time around, the Gaang isn’t as suspicious of him as they previously were. They don’t completely trust him and Iroh (they did still try to capture them for months) but they trust them in a sense. That trust grows when Iroh agrees to help with the invasion and Zuko agrees to teach Aang firebending. With BSS secured, the Gaang remain in the city for safety until it’s time for the invasion. Sokka is off with the military to get them back on track for the invasion. He continues to send letters to his dad, telling him about his plans and the South Pole has agreed to send back up.
3. During that time, Zuko and Katara grow closer. Since it isn’t time for Aang to learn firebending yet, Zuko isn’t needed as much to be his teacher and he and Katara can often be found practicing and sparing together. (Katara: You know, when I agreed to spare with you, I thought you’d be good at this. Zuko: I’m a little rusty. Katara: Maybe being a tea server is the better calling. Zuko: I make an amazing tea server so I take that as a compliment. Katara: I’ll have to see that sometime. Tea server Zuko. Now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d say). That, or they’re chatting about the past few months and family. (Zuko: I…I don’t want to leave Azula down there*in BSS prison* Katara: She tried to kill us. She- Zuko: So did I! I was exactly like her less than a year ago. How come I get to sit here and eat amazing meals while she’d down there? Katara: Because you saw what you were doing was awful and changed. Zuko: Yeah, I changed. And I really think that my little sister can change too.)
4 (part 1). A few more weeks go with things actually going Team Avatar’s way (so you know something bad is about to happen) before BSS is attacked. Ozai sends in troops and soldiers to attack the wall and bring it down so he can take over the city before the comet comes and retrieve Azula. The Gaang soon discover that while they had taken down the Dai Li they did not account for Long Feng and he managed to get a letter to Ozai and told him what occurred. He also helped some soldiers sneak into the city and the palace is attacked (the Gaang defeats them but this does alert them to the fact that the Fire Nation is here).
4 (Part 2). While the group is trying to figure out what to do, some people saying nothing because no one ever managed to get through the wall that quickly and others saying they need to attack Ozai with their military, Zuko gets a message from the guards saying Azula wants to talk. Katara goes down with him. Azula offers information for dealing with Ozai in exchange for her, Mai and Ty Lee’s freedom (Zuko: You’d sell out father? Azula: I wouldn’t call it selling out more like saving my head. You think father will be pleased that I failed in Ba Sing Se and completed none of my missions? I’m not trying to match you, Zuzu. Zuko: Ozai won’t get- Azula: He will if you don’t do something. He has someone, an earthbender, on the inside now, and years of knowledge from failed attacks on the city. He will break through if something isn’t done). Zuko agrees and Azula, Mai and Ty Lee are set free.
5. The group works together to try and drive Ozai out of the city. For a while, they are successful since most of the Earth Kingdom troops are in the city anyways, but then they start to lose and the troops have to fall back. The Gaang has been debating about what is best to do and if they should stay and fight or leave and save Aang. When Ozai finally breaks through the wall, they decide to remain and fight. Thanks to Azula's knowledge, they are able to stop the Fire Nation from getting too far except that Ozai and a couple soldiers manage to sneak through and get to the palace (of course with the intent to kill Kuei and Aang). Zuko, Katara and a couple EK soldiers spot the small group and attack. The fight becomes Ozai vs Zuko and Katara pretty quickly. While fighting, Ozai manages to get a hold of Zuko and brings his hand down only to get it frozen and Katara to sent an ice spike straight at his eyes. She misses one but hits him in the other one. Ozai is forced to realize Zuko but not before grabbing Katara and burning her shoulder (badly). With perfect timing, Katara and Zuko lock eyes and Katara (through the pain) sends a water whip straight at Ozai's back so he'll release her while Zuko openly mocks him (Yes, I said what I said. Zuko: Greatest firelord in history? You're getting your butt handed to you by a fourteen year old girl who isn't even a master yet. Katara, through clenched teeth: Less about me, Zuko! Zuko: Iroh would have taken this city weeks before you did. Honestly, all of us were back here laughing at how long it was taking you.) Ozai sends a lighting blast at him just in time for Zuko to redirect it right at Ozai.
+1 - The rest of the troops back off when they learn Ozai is killed and the other members of the Royal Family are telling them to leave. Katara is rushed to the healers room and operated on for days to prevent her from losing the arm. Thankfully, Aang and Sokka remember that she had the water from the North Pole and Aang works days and nights to heal her with every last drop of it. When Katara wakes up, she learns that Zuko had stayed on the chair in her room the entire time. (Katara: I guess I trust you now. Zuko: You guess, huh? Katara: I mean, if you really cared you would have brought me candy. Zuko: My mistake. I'll remember that next time you're in the healers room clinging to life.) Of course, it ends with a Zutara kiss and the war officially coming to an end.

I’m looking for an avatar au i read a while ago where Azula interfered at the Agni Kai and fights ozai (he strikes her with lightning), and later she and zuko run away, get spirit masks and fight together (I have no idea against who), later ty lee and Mai join them to (they get masks too) and they join team avatar (I think?).
Does anyone know the name of the au?

I've caved. Here's my Avatar The Last Airbender uni au and modern/non bender au headcanons.
Here's what I think the main kids uni majors/minors would be:
Aang: wildlife conservation with a minor in political sciences
Katara: medicine, education minor
Sokka: engineering, polisci minor
Toph: geology with a martial arts minor (changed my mind, education minor)
Zuko: forced to do law & politics by his family but switches to history/anthropology, keeping politics as a minor
Azula: law w a psychology minor
Mai: forced to do politics by family but wants to do art, history minor
Ty Lee: training in acrobatics and performance at a performing arts school and works at the circus
Suki: human relations and activism, martial arts minor
Yue: Dance major (same school as Ty Lee, polisci minor
Living situations:
Katara and Sokka flat together and eventually Aang becomes a permanent resident
Toph lives right across from them, she likes her own space and independence but she'd never want to be too far from her friends
Zuko lives with Iroh above his teashop and works there part time
Suki has a sharehouse with the kyoshi warriors (her hockey team)
Ty Lee and Yue get assigned room-mates first year and became pretty quick friends, they continue to live together afterwards
Azula has her own apartment (of course). So does Mai, but she spends so much time at Azulas she basically lives there. Neither of them would admit it but they much prefer it to having whole houses to themselves.
---
General modern au/non bender au hcs:
(Pretty obvious) Ethnicity n nationality hcs:
Sokka and Katara r Inuit and from Alaska
Azula, Zuko and Mai are all Japanese American
Ty Lee is Japanese and Mongolian
Toph is Chinese and Singaporean (born in Singapore)
Aang is Bhutanese (so is Gyatso), but he grew up in Singapore. Him and Toph were childhood friends
Yue is Inuit and Sámi and her family lives in north-east Canada
Suki is mixed Chinese, Thai and French-Canadian and live in an island off of Quebec
Have not decided where the uni would be but probably BSSU (Ba Sing Se uni) cause I know a lot of ppl use that as the uni name
I don't know a ton about US and Canadian geography so if y'all have ideas for what states or provinces the characters would hail from (especially what state/city Zuko, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee grew up in) I would def appreciate the suggestions
Aang has a Tibetan Mastiff called Appa and Sokka has a Siamese cat called Momo (he found him behind a dumpster looking for food scraps and Sokka knew he'd found a kindred spirit,,, much to Kataras initial dismay)
Aang grew up in a sort of hippie/alternative living foster home that taughtbuddist beliefs, he never knew his real parents but he was okay with that.
I'm a fan of bigcorp ceo Ozai but also political tyrant Ozai works as well so I'm srsly torn on that. Politician Ozai would either have to be a nation ruler or American ambassador because I like to think Zuko and Azula moved around a lot as kids so he couldn't have a job that keeps him in ine place. That's why I like the idea of ceo Ozai. He would still have a lot of political power and it would still mean moving around a lot plus him being super corrupt and exploiting his workers is fun for angst.
Oh and!! Zuko and Azula lived in Singapore for part of highschool and their family visited a lot for holidays. Since Tophs parents and Ozai worked together, Zuko and Azula were around at The Beifongs a lot and entertained themselves by making fun of Toph for hanging out with a "poor tree hugging commoner" like Aang
---
I may add more to this so look out for a part 2
♡♡
I'm currently working on drawing them (and maybe chara profiles with sexualities, pronouns, character aesthetics/how I think they'd dress, interests ect) :] I've done the boys and the (non fire nation) gals are next!!

Twst ATLA au ideas
Heartslabyul-
Riddle- Firebender in charge of a team to capture the Avatar. Kind of an Azula character until he realizes that following the rules of the Fire Nation is hurting so many people.
Trey- Riddle's childhood friend, an Earthbender in the Fire Nation. His mother is Fire Nation and father from the Earth Kingdom. He follows Riddle's command until Ace and Deuce convince him otherwise.
Cater- Firebender born in the colonies. He feels a need to fit in with everyone else in his team under Riddle because he was born outside the real Fire Nation. He typically "loses" the Avatar for silly reasons. Eventually becomes a kyoshi warrior.
Ace- Naturally talented firebender who was recently assigned under Riddle, who thinks capturing the Avatar is dumb. He hates Riddle at first, but turns around once they start fighting on the good side.
Deuce- A boy who joined the fire nation army to support his mother after an early life as a street thug. He thinks he's a nonbender but later discovers he's an Airbender, and learns from the Avatar.
Savanaclaw-
Leona- An Earthbending Prince of the Earth Kingdom, second born. He lives in Ba Sing Se, and already knows there's no hope for peace with the Fire Nation, while his brother Falena is convinced they can still win this war with words and compromise.
Ruggie- A nonbending thief in the lower rings of Ba Sing Se who works for Leona, giving him information in exchange for fresh food and money. He informs Leona of the Avatar arriving in Ba Sing Se.
Jack- An Earthbender who lives in the middle ring of Ba Sing Se, and secretly fights in Earthbending rumble battles, though he deems it low. He convinces himself it's for training, and eventually joins Team Avatar to train the Avatar in Earthbending.
Octavinelle-
Azul- The nonbending prince of the Northern Water tribe. He uses his position to form deals with the people of his tribe and hold them in his debt. He takes Yue's place, although he declines to become the moon spirit, it would be bad for business. He does join Team avatar.
Jade- Jade is one of Azul's bodyguards and a waterbender. He's also a bloodbender, though he keeps it hidden. He joins Team Avatar to teach the Avatar waterbending.
Floyd- Floyd is Azul's other bodyguard, and also a waterbender. He is more open about the fact he's a bloodbender, though he's not as good as Jade is. He joins Team avatar as the avatars other waterbending teacher.
Scarabia-
Kalim- Kalim is the waterbending prince of the Sandbenders, and is deemed extremely valuable because of this. He is celebrated for his gift of pulling water from the clouds and ground. He wants to join Team Avatar, but eventually declines because his people need him.
Jamil- Jamil is Kalim's servant, and has to hide the fact that he's an Airbender so Kalim can shine. He secretly trains his bending, and as soon as the Avatar comes to visit, he grabs the chance and leaves with them.
Pomefiore-
Vil- Vil is a nonbender, and the current leader of the kyoshi warriors. He meets up with the Avatar a few times to aid them, and eventually trains Cater personally to become a Kyoshi warrior as well.
Rook- Rook was originally a chi blocking assassin sent to kill Vil, but instead was inspired and joined the kyoshi warriors. He's Vil's second in command, and has sworn to fight alongside him for life.
Epel- Epel was the only earthbender in his village, and wanted so badly to join the Earth Kingdom's army, but instead was swooped up by Vil and forced to join the Kyoshi warriors. He eventually discovers his place there, and is trained by Jack alongside the Avatar.
Ignihyde-
Idia- Idia was part of a fire nation force to infiltrate Ba Sing Se, but his squadron was discovered and wiped out, except for him and his younger brother, who escaped into the crystal caverns and have been hiding ever since. He's a fire and lightning bender, and once found, is taken in by team avatar as their firebending teacher.
Ortho- Ortho was part of the infiltration squad, but was heavily injured. Idia built him new limbs made out of metal and crystal, and he was very excited to join Team Avatar. He used to be a firebender, but had to adjust to his new body and has become a combustion bender.
Diasomnia-
Malleus- Malleus is the prince of the Fire Nation, and at first sees no reason to stop his bloodlines attempt to capture the Avatar and continue the war. He's a powerful fire and lightning bender, but soon realizes his mistakes and takes over the throne to stop it. He is very similar to Zuko.
Lilia- Lilia is Malleus's caregiver and takes the place of Iroh. Most people dismiss his ramblings about knowing previous avatars and seeing spirits, but he's secretly an Airbender.
Silver- Silver is a nonbender and Part of Malleus's guard. He sleeps a lot, and has a much higher spiritual connection than most people, finding he can contact spirits and the Avatar through dreams.
Sebek- Sebek is Malleus's other guard and a firebender who is much better at bending lightning. He at first would never doubt the fire nation, but eventually helps establish a new Era.
Others-
Chenya- Chenya is a waterbender with a high spiritual connection. He was born in the fire nation, and raised by his grandfather, a former fire nation General. He plays no significant role other than showing up and laughing at people with the spirits.
Chiyo- In this au, Chiyo is the Avatar, an Airbender born to defeat the Fire Lord. He picks up Jamil and the others as she goes, and eventually becomes one of the most well known avatars in history.
Atlas- Atlas is a nonbender who works at a tea house, specifically Auntie Wu's. He predicts the future with the help of spirits, though its not always accurate and is very cryptic. He's head over heels for Jade, even though he's a little intimidated by him.
This is very firebender heavy, but I think it fits NRC well.

Alternate take of the "Aang v Ozai" battle with a question at the end
It takes place at the end of season 4, air. The comet arrives at the finale. (Season 3 ends with only the final agni kai but without the comet.) The lion turtle doesn't pop out of nowhere to give Aang energybending, he figures it out for himself. Iroh and Ursa are bio-siblings because Ozai was born in Sozin's time and he's the instigator of the great war, but he reigns throughout the war and is in peak prime condition despite his old age. Sozin and Azulon could have existed sometime earlier but Ozai commits their respective atrocities before committing his own and their respective firebending levels are added to Ozai's.
Aang and Ozai do a 1v1 battle at first. It's mostly the same but Ozai proves to be much tougher and deadlier due to many more years of experience in firebending and warfare, in addition to learning from dragons as well as slaying them.
As he redirects Ozai's lightning, Aang accidentally releases it early while the lightning is pointed right at Ozai but he bends over backward and dodges the lightning.
Aang uses almost everything he's learned throughout the series to survive the fight but Ozai manages to keep up and Aang is beaten and he loses to him.
The rest of Team Avatar show up. Azula, Zuko, Katara, Sokka, Suki, Ty Lee, Mai, and Toph are the prime members. Aang gets back up and fights alongside the team. Again, every member uses everything they learned, and they throw everything they have at Ozai, some members attack him out of rage and aggression, but he holds his own, and the team is eventually beaten down.
Aang conceals himself and the gaang into the Earth orb thing. It's bigger than before, just to fit more people in. Aang meditates as he tries to maintain the orb. Aang makes sure all his chakras are open and he enters the avatar state all on his own with complete control.
Ozai manages to destroy the Earth orb but Aang emerges almost the same way as before, but he says "Fire Lord Ozai! You have devastated the balance of this world, and now you shall pay the ultimate price!"
They duel once again. Ozai was still very strong and could hold his own against Aang. But with the spirits and experiences of all avatars before him empowering him, Aang slowly begins to overpower Ozai and gain the upper hand. The avatar's attacks are more aggressive, most likely due to Aang and Roku's respective anger.
Ozai finally loses and is beaten down. Aang exits the avatar state and stands in front of him while he's down. The rest of the gaang stand before him as well after they get back up. What happens next?

I've had a breakthrough of motivation at last but not 100% sure...
For anyone who reads the Avatar Azula AU, what do you think Sokka would do if he went along during the Southern Raiders trip - This would make it Azula, Sokka and Katara going (a little OG Team Avatar haha)
I always thought he was too chill about it in the show so would love to hear people's thoughts!
