#B plot

Love it in DS9 when the little cute B plot is added in between the craziest main story known to man, but I also love it when the B plot is just as important as the A plot, but without the angst, so no one cares.

Like when Kira was having the O’brians baby? That was pretty important, but it was made a B plot. This was probably because you can’t control when someone is going to have birth, so they were just fitting it in somewhere, but there’s other examples too.

What about Rom and Leeta finally getting together? Y’know the actually pretty big part of the later show was just a B plot, which is actually quite surprising to me as I went into DS9 knowing they were going to get together, but I suppose nobody really knew how big of a part they would play.

Overall, I just find it funny that there is so much variety in Star Trek B plot’s from “extremely important to the plot” to “just there for a few seconds to have a fun story in between” all the way down to “what was the point of this” and “whatever that writing thing was between Jake Sisko and the creepy energy woman”.

I saw your miraculous Jayvick post and I love it because I imagine things like that many times so now I imagining the show going differently with the characters swapping, like Lol Viktor replacing Arcane Viktor or Lol Jayce replacing Arcane Jayce.

Arcane Jayce making a partnership to create Hextech with Lol Viktor while Arcane Viktor create a partnership with Lol Jayce. How would it go?

I don’t know Lol Viktor and Jayce well so I want to ask. Because the way I see it, from a characterization that would fit the Arcane setting and clues from how some people characterize Lol Viktor and Jayce, Lol Viktor and Lol Jayce might be the older professor/scientist in the academy.

well this is interesting bc arcane!jayce would’ve never made hextech if viktor hadn’t stopped him from stepping off the ledge. LoL!jayvik and arc!jayvik have very different meetcutes, so i guess it’s a matter of if you think LoL!viktor would save arc!jayce. i think he would, but only accidentally. like that one post that goes “hey are we—stop screaming it’s just me—are we out of cheetos?” except it’s their first introduction

my sibling had this to say abt hypothetical relationship:

arc!viktor creating a partnership with LoL!jayce is trickier bc, as i mentioned, LoL!jayce isn’t driven by a passion for humanity and helping ppl, which is what drew arc!viktor to jayce in the first place. LoL!jayvik got along so well at first bc they both had this ego and almost cynicism towards others (before that got turned against each other), so the only way i can see these two partnering up is if arc!viktor saw it as an opportunity to upgrade out of his assistant position: he has the intelligence, he just has to latch onto the sorta-kinda reputable academic as leverage. and LoL!jayce would love having an intellectual equal as he originally does, honestly this could play out the same as LoL!jayvik

if LoL!jayce was brought into the arcane universe btw, the show would immediately become a comedy. he has the kind of woe that one can only laugh about

Subplots: When Do They Suck?

How can writers avoid the dreaded D-level B-plot? Today we're talking about how to identify and bolster weak subplots.

I think next time I do something impulsive (like drive most of the way to NYC from western Pennsylvania on thanksgiving evening so I can see a a play about drag queens on black Friday), I'm going to justify it to my friends as B plot in their own lives. Like, how could you not seem like an Everyman next to me doing weird stuff like going to see a play in New Jersey that nobody's ever heard of- and doing it twice in the same month, to see the same play?

a good way to inspire yourself to do more is to see yourself as the wacky sitcom B plot character in your friends lives, "wouldnt it be funny to tell the friends in my phone about it." has gotten me to do anything from going to a festival (excelent) to wild camping (it went badly) (coastguard called) to trying to get the train to stonehenge (stonehenge costs money so i ended up just getting lunch in sailsbury, it was okay.) i bought a bicycle today and 20% of my reasoning was "itd be funny to surprise my roommate by coming home with a whole bike." . life is for living. and baby i live for the bit.

Shen Qingqiu but he's an ugly crier.

No single tear rolling down the face, immortal beauty for this transmigrator! He gets the full red, puffy-faced, swollen-eyed experience!

He's at the Immortal Alliance Conference trying to be cruel to Binghe but he's got snot running down his face and has to try and wheeze/hiccup through his Bad Guy Speech™️.

Meanwhile, Binghe's watching his usually inflappable Shizun fall apart and uses all 300 of his Protagonist IQ points to realise something's off.

System feels a sense of foreboding wash over it.

Some metaphors are bad metaphors. And some seem overdetermined.

have the people complaining about Athena’s case and storyline this episode heard of a metaphor??? tell me why I’ve seen a dozen posts of people claiming that the case was “random” and had “nothing to do with Bobby” as though it wasn’t an important vehicle for Athena to process her own grief and accept Bobby’s death?

It was a story about someone who lost someone so important to them that it felt overwhelming and unrecoverable, and at the slightest provocation they almost destroyed the life they’d clawed back from tragedy. She saw her son in a stranger and pushed herself over the brink.

Then, in an effort to help, Athena pushed herself too far, distanced herself from her friends and family, and saw Bobby in the shell of a house he never got to finish. She retreated into her grief, into the past, in an effort to fix *something*. Fix *anything*.

And the thing is, they made us think for a moment that there was hope for that woman! That it was her son!

But there wasn’t. There simply wasn’t hope for that woman. Her son is dead. Athena’s husband, the love of her life, is dead. She will never be the same. And in that moment when Athena broke the news about the DNA test, she allowed herself to accept that, too.

But you have to keep going. Like Buck said, you just have to live. You lean on those around you. Everyone, including Athena, had a support system this episode. I saw it in every moment, in every scene.

I thought it was honestly a really good episode
