I think regardless of whether or not this is a bad idea, or the fact that watcher needs funds to create these shows (which is real and valid), whether this works out for them or not, ultimately, this change is going to result in the loss of community.
Let's be so real: people are going to record their new stuff and post it on youtube, or other piracy sites. That's just a fact. People do it with netflix, they do it with hulu and apple tv and movies, etc. etc. People are going to find ways to watch watcher's shows without paying for them. But, if I were to go and watch the next season of ghost files on a piracy site (cannot believe I just made that sentence, btw), the thing is, I'm not going to come and post about it here on tumblr. When the previous seasons dropped, I was making posts while I was watching, just of my thoughts and stuff -- and I was liking other people's posts they were making while they were watching. And it was a great time of us all reacting to the episode. But now, if people are able to find the content for free, there's not going to be any of that. We'll watch it, and maybe we'll be able to enjoy it despite all of this, but even if we post about it, it's not going to feel like a community anymore because so many people will be out of the loop. So many people won't know what's going on, or what we're talking about, because they weren't able to watch it. Even if you take out the piracy aspect, that's what you're going to have. The fandom (or, unfortunately, what's left of it, if we're being real) will turn into People Who Have The Subscription and People Who Don't.
This is so long and dramatic, and I've got things to do today that don't revolve around internet shows, but even so: I feel like we have the right to vent our feelings and then move on however we see fit, so that's what I'm gonna do. Last thing I'll say (for now at least lol) is that I understand why watcher is doing this, I understand that raising enough funds to do what you want is hard, I understand that above all they are a company that wants to do ambitious things and will need the money to do so. That being said, this has created a shitty situation for a lot of people who have been watching their content for 9 plus years (because really, the watcher shows were an extension of their buzzfeed shows) for free and are now being faced with a "pay or don't watch at all" ultimatum. So, I get why they did it, and I get why people are upset.

i wanna make this a multiblog for mcd, fnaf, and bfu/watcher but i fear it may not be as cohesive? like its my blog i can do what i want idk why the thought of change gives me anxiety. and its like how many ppl enjoy those three things specfically? i feel like a lot though potentially. the mcd -> fnaf -> bfu/watcher pipeline is REAL. uh anyways. sound off now or forever hold your peace

bfucu hc:
ricky and night night are brothers
fran is ricky and night nights sister
night night is the youngest, ricky is the middle child, and fran is the oldest
fran is very protective of ricky; as they have built a close relationship over the years
their dad was straight up an asshole and left before lucy took in fran
so yeah lucy raised 2 boys and a girl all by herself #girlboss if ive ever seen one
night night and legs are engaged whereas tinsley and ricky are just dating
night night and legs are mob bosses
fran is a spy for said mob
ricky is a hitman
tinsley is a pi
dr fear is like- the main antagonist if that makes any sense
for the longest time tinsley didnt know what ricky and his family actually did for their jobs and was always told ricky was a bouncer (which he had doubts abt), night night and legs worked at the bank, and fran worked at the hair salon
honestly these are just a few of many lmao theres free candy by the back door on ur way out and if u have any questions just ask
on the topic id be curious what some of ur guys' hcs were

I find it kind of funny that, when you spend enough time in the BFU/Watcher fandom, you will see a good amount of "Hey, this guy looks like Shane Madej!" posts. And the guy never looks like Shane Madej.

Let’s talk about Watcher TV…
As a fan since the bfu days, I’m so unbelievably proud of the boys for finally being able to go their own way, it’s truly incredible and I’m so happy for them and how far they’ve come.
However… I’m heartbroken because I won’t be able to follow them on this journey. This is the end of me watching the ghoul boys. It would never be my decision to willingly stop enjoying their content because of how much I love them, but I’m unable to pay for their subscription service.
It makes me so unbelievably sad that they are not only charging so much to watch their content now, but are also removing their free, accessible videos as well. It feels like they’re prioritizing money over viewers, which I know in my heart can’t be true, but that doesn’t stop me and many others from feeling that way.
I genuinely hope the new Watcher Entertainment is successful and everyone who’s able to subscribe has the time of their life watching their new videos. I wish the boys the best in their new journey, even if that means I’ll never be able to see it.
And to all my lovely moots: I hope we can stay mutuals even though we won’t be in the same fandom anymore. You guys are some of the funniest, kindest, most creative people I’ve ever had the honor of interacting with, and I’m forever grateful we found each other on this silly little website <3

buzzfeed unsolved enjoyer since brent and ryan were sitting in a car doing buzzfeed unsolved here. worth it enjoyer since the first episode got posted here. type of guy who was involved in the early days of the bfu fandom here.
i need you all to take a breath. maybe its because after i drifted from the buzzfeed fandom and went my own way while still watching their content, i went to minecrafters, who are actually evil people, and learned the true horrors of parasocial behaviour, but i dont care for any of this.
‘its all steven’s fault’ okay. weird comment. have you watched a single making of watcher, or paid attention to any of the podcasts or content that isn’t ghost files? no? alright so when you do that i’ll listen to your ten page essay argument where shane madej is painted as a victim of his evil capitalist friends.
‘the content is worse now anyways i miss unsolved’ good news you actually dont have to watch content you dislike out of this weird sense of devotion or parasocial behaviour. you can stop putting your white man on a pedestal. you can consume content normally and healthily.
i dont know how to explain to some of you freaks that content creation is labour. i dont know how to tell you that this decision was long hinted. they want to be free of contractual obligations from sponsors. they want to own their content and have it be theirs. they want to produce and create, because that is who they have always been. do you think they all started at buzzfeed purely to make Youtube videos for the rest of their lives?
you are not watcher. you dont own watcher. you are just here, like i am, witnessing all of this. your opinions do not matter, because last i checked half of you have made it very clear you don’t even watch the content you’re currently saying isn’t good enough or isn’t worth it.
and yeah, okay. whatever. its six dollars a month. maybe its because i work full time while juggling rent and utilities and groceries and a phone bill, but that just means i maybe dont go to a cafe once during the month ? and for the international fans i do hope they figure out how to make pricing fair and reasonable. but for the western fans acting if they were shot and killed by steven lim personally? do me a favor and remember you’re part of this issue.
its popular to be angry right now, and so you are. i get it. ive been around this block a thousand times before. but i genuinely hope a lot of you realize that the behaviour this has sparked is strange. these are human beings capable of mistakes, but you do not own them. you never have!
c’est la vie. content creators disappoint. move on.
