China tried to meddle in the last two Canadian elections but the results were not affected and it was “improbable” Beijing preferred any one party over another, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has told an official probe.
In sworn testimony on Wednesday before a commission conducting a public inquiry into alleged foreign interference in the 2019 and 2021 Canadian elections, Trudeau answered questions about intelligence briefings he had received and asserted the elections were “free and fair”.
The prime minister set up the commission last year under pressure from opposition legislators unhappy about media reports on China’s possible role in the elections. China has consistently denied that it interfered in Canada’s internal affairs, calling the allegations “groundless”.
Erin O’Toole, who led the main opposition Conservative party during the 2021 campaign, has estimated Chinese interference cost his party up to nine seats but added it had not changed the course of the election. Trudeau’s Liberal Party won both the elections.
“Nothing we have seen and heard despite, yes, attempts by foreign states to interfere, those elections held in their integrity. They were decided by Canadians,” Trudeau said. [...]

It's a lie meant to distract you from the fact his campaign worked with the fascist BJP to slander and attack Sikhs in the elections wherein he had to go up against Jagmeet Singh. Corrupt bastard. AAP chief Manish Sisodia is an accused within the case. (Vipin Kumar/HT Photo) The company additionally seized solid letterheads of personal contractors and shell corporations used to manufacture procurement data and generate bogus buy payments, together with authentic authorities departmental recordsdata and rubber stamps bearing the names and designations of officers from the Public Works Department (PWD). “During searches, ED unearthed substantial incriminating proof from the premises of a non-public contractor. Among the supplies seized have been authentic recordsdata belonging to the Delhi authorities, and 322 passbooks linked to mule accounts in labourers’ names used to masks the diversion of public cash beneath the guise of authentic funds,” the company stated in a press release. ED stated these mule accounts and solid paperwork have been a part of a wider operation involving pretend invoices and inflated or solely bogus claims for development work on further lecture rooms. Dummy corporations with no infrastructure or operational legitimacy had been proven to obtain substantial funds for these actions. Substantial paperwork and digital proof pointing to irregularities have been seized, the company added. The raids have been carried out throughout 37 places in Delhi on June 18. The ED’s probe relies on an FIR registered by the Delhi authorities’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), which is investigating procedural lapses and suspected corruption in a mission involving the development of 12,748 semi-permanent lecture rooms. Initially estimated at ₹860 crore, the mission’s price reportedly rose to over ₹2,800 crore between 2015 and 2023, allegedly with out recent tenders or adherence to plain procurement guidelines. Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and former Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain are presently beneath investigation by each the ACB and ED in reference to the case. Reacting to the June 18 raids, the AAP stated in a press release that the “so-called raids are nothing however a determined try and divert public consideration,” calling the allegations “baseless, politically motivated, and geared toward distracting from the BJP’s anti-people actions.” Read More: https://news.unicaus.in/india/delhi-classroom-case-ed-recovers-322-passbooks-linked-to-mule-accounts/

What Really Happened When Article 370 Was Removed?
Life in Kashmir After Modi Removed Article 370: A Multifaceted Transformation (Note: Imagery and video references are suggested in brackets for illustrative purposes.)
Introduction
[Image: A panoramic view of Srinagar’s Dal Lake with shikaras and mountains in the background.] On August 5, 2019, India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government revoked Article 370 of the Constitution, stripping Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) of its semi-autonomous status and bifurcating it into two Union Territories: J&K and Ladakh. This historic decision, framed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a step toward “integrating Kashmir into India” and fostering development, has reshaped the region’s political, economic, and social fabric. Over four years later, life in Kashmir remains a complex tapestry of hope, uncertainty, and resistance.
Historical Context of Article 370
[Video: Archival footage of J&K’s accession to India in 1947.] Article 370, enacted in 1949, granted J&K autonomy over its internal governance—except defense, foreign affairs, and communications—while Article 35A (a derivative) barred outsiders from buying land or claiming state jobs. For decades, these provisions symbolized Kashmir’s unique identity within India. However, critics argued they hindered economic integration and fueled separatism. The BJP’s ideological commitment to abolishing Article 370, a promise in its 2019 election manifesto, culminated in its abrupt revocation, accompanied by a communications blackout and mass detentions.
Political Changes: Centralization and Discontent
[Image: Paramilitary troops patrolling near the now-defunct J&K Legislative Assembly building.] The immediate aftermath saw J&K’s statehood dissolved and placed under direct federal rule. Prominent political leaders, including former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, were detained for months. While the government argued this would curb corruption and dynastic politics, local parties decried it as “disenfranchisement.”
The 2020 District Development Council elections, the first major polls post-370, saw high voter turnout but were marred by allegations of coercion. New Delhi’s appointment of non-local bureaucrats to key administrative roles further fueled perceptions of marginalization. Despite promises to restore statehood, J&K remains a Union Territory, deepening distrust among locals.
Economic Impact: Promises vs. Reality
[Image: Construction workers at a highway project under the Modi government’s infrastructure push.] The Centre pledged ₹80,000 crore ($10.7 billion) in investments for roads, hospitals, and tourism. While infrastructure projects like the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link have advanced, locals report limited job opportunities. Unemployment remains at 18%—double the national average—according to 2022 data.
Tourism, a lifeline for Kashmir’s economy, plummeted post-2019 due to security clampdowns and COVID-19. Although arrivals rebounded to 1.88 million tourists in 2022, hoteliers cite erratic internet and fears of unrest as persistent challenges. Apple growers, contributing to 80% of India’s apple production, faced losses during frequent highway blockades.
Social and Cultural Shifts: Identity Under Siege
[Image: A protestor holding a placard reading “Protect Kashmiri Identity” during a demonstration in Srinagar.] The revocation ignited fears of demographic flooding after new domicile laws allowed non-residents to obtain permanent residency. Over 4 million certificates have been issued since 2020, including to non-Kashmiris, raising anxieties about cultural dilution.
Educational institutions, once hubs of political discourse, now operate under heightened surveillance. Students recount self-censorship to avoid scrutiny. The internet shutdowns, which lasted 18 months for high-speed services, disrupted online learning during the pandemic, exacerbating educational gaps.
Cultural symbols like the Kashmiri language and festivals face renewed interest among youth as acts of resistance. However, the loss of political autonomy has left many grappling with a fractured sense of identity.
Security Situation: Militancy and Human Rights
[Video: Security forces conducting counterinsurgency operations in a Kashmiri village.] The government claims terrorism-related incidents dropped by 59% between 2018 and 2022. However, targeted killings of minorities and migrant workers surged in 2021–2022, reflecting persistent militancy. Over 500 militants and 100 security personnel have died in clashes since 2019.
Human rights groups highlight ongoing abuses: arbitrary detentions under the Public Safety Act, restrictions on public assembly, and alleged torture. The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), which grants immunity to security forces, remains in place despite calls for repeal.
[Image: A family mourning during the funeral of a civilian killed in crossfire.]
International Reactions: Diplomacy and Disapproval
[Image: UN Security Council discussing Kashmir in a closed session.] Pakistan condemned the move, downgrading diplomatic ties and suspending trade. China, which claims parts of Ladakh, criticized the bifurcation. The UN called for dialogue but took no concrete action. While the U.S. and EU initially expressed concern, they largely accepted India’s stance as an internal matter. Gulf nations like Saudi Arabia and UAE, mindful of economic ties with India, stayed neutral.
Conclusion: An Uncertain Future
[Image: A Kashmiri farmer tending saffron fields with barbed wire in the background.] Life in Kashmir post-370 is marked by paradoxes: economic potential overshadowed by unemployment, peace overtures undermined by violence, and integration efforts clashing with cultural preservation. While the government touts “normalcy,” grassroots discontent simmers. The Supreme Court’s pending verdict on petitions challenging the revocation could further shape Kashmir’s trajectory.
For now, Kashmiris navigate a fragile existence, caught between hope for development and fears of eroding autonomy. As poet Agha Shahid Ali wrote, “The world is full of paper. Write to me.” The next chapter of Kashmir’s story remains unwritten

Indian Politics: A Dynamic Democracy Navigating Challenges and Aspirations
Tumblr media
India, the world’s largest democracy, boasts a vibrant yet complex political landscape shaped by its diversity, historical legacy, and evolving socio-economic priorities. Governed by a parliamentary system enshrined in its 1950 Constitution, Indian politics reflects both democratic ideals and persistent challenges, from corruption to identity-based divisions. This essay explores the structure, key players, contemporary issues, and future prospects of Indian politics in 2025.
1. Political Framework and Democratic Structure
India operates as a federal parliamentary republic, with power divided among the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary. The President serves as the ceremonial head, while the Prime Minister leads the government. The bicameral Parliament consists of the Lok Sabha (Lower House) and Rajya Sabha (Upper House), representing the people and states, respectively .
The 2024 general elections saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secure a third term, albeit reliant on alliances with regional parties like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal (United) . This underscores the growing influence of regional parties, which dominate states such as West Bengal (Trinamool Congress) and Tamil Nadu (DMK) .
2. Key Political Parties and Electoral Dynamics
India’s multi-party system features national and regional players. The BJP and Indian National Congress (INC) remain dominant nationally, while regional parties advocate state-specific agendas. The 2024 elections highlighted voter turnout at 67%, with youth and digital campaigns playing pivotal roles . However, challenges like electoral fraud allegations and the criminalization of politics persist, with many legislators facing criminal charges .
The BJP’s consolidation since 2014 has reshaped politics, emphasizing Hindu nationalism, economic reforms, and centralization. Critics argue this has marginalized minorities and weakened federalism, while supporters credit it with infrastructure growth and global stature .
3. Challenges in Indian Politics
A. Corruption and Governance
Corruption remains systemic, exemplified by scandals like the 2G Spectrum scam. Initiatives like the Lokpal Act and digital governance (e.g., Digital India) aim to enhance transparency, yet implementation gaps endure .
B. Identity Politics
Caste and religion often dictate electoral strategies. The BJP’s policies, such as revoking Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy (Article 370), have intensified debates on secularism and minority rights .
C. Security and Internal Conflict
The 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, attributed to Pakistan-based militants, reignited India-Pakistan tensions and scrutiny of intelligence failures . Meanwhile, Naxalite insurgencies in Chhattisgarh and ethnic violence in Manipur underscore internal security challenges .
D. Economic Disparities
Despite being a $3.7 trillion economy, wealth inequality and unemployment persist. Welfare schemes like MNREGA and PM-KISAN aim to alleviate poverty, yet informal sector workers (94% of the workforce) remain vulnerable .
4. Recent Developments and Policy Shifts
A. BJP’s Third Term Agenda
Modi’s 2024–2029 agenda focuses on “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India), defense modernization, and Hindu cultural revival. The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, sparked protests in West Bengal, reflecting tensions over religious property rights .
B. Foreign Policy and Global Partnerships
The 2025 U.S.-India COMPACT initiative strengthened defense and trade ties, including co-production of Javelin missiles and a $500 billion trade target by 2030 . India’s leadership in the G20 and Quad alliances underscores its rising global influence .
C. Social Reforms
The Women’s Reservation Bill (pending) and appointments like Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s Chief Minister signal incremental progress in gender representation .
5. The Road Ahead: Opportunities and Reforms
A. Youth and Digital Engagement
With 65% of the population under 35, youth-driven movements and digital platforms (e.g., MyGov) are reshaping political participation .
B. Judicial and Electoral Reforms
Calls to decriminalize politics and abolish sedition laws (IPC 124A) highlight the need for judicial accountability . The Election Commission’s use of EVMs and VVPATs aims to ensure fair elections .
C. Sustainable Development
Initiatives like the Green Hydrogen Mission and amendments to nuclear liability laws (CLNDA) aim to balance energy security and climate goals .
Conclusion
Indian politics, a tapestry of democracy and diversity, faces a critical juncture in 2025. While the BJP’s dominance reflects a shift toward majoritarianism, regional parties and civil society push for pluralism and equity. Addressing corruption, enhancing inclusivity, and fostering youth leadership will determine whether India realizes its potential as a global democratic exemplar. As historian Ramachandra Guha noted, India’s democracy is “a marathon, not a sprint”—a testament to its resilience amid evolving challenges .

CLP Leader Umang Singhar Leads Congress MLAs to Submit Transport Scam Evidence to Income Tax DG, Demand Justice
Certainly, this investigation will reveal whose gold brick it is. It will also uncover the big crocodiles (major culprits).
Tumblr media
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar and Congress MLAs submitted documents related to the alleged transport department scam to the Income Tax DG during a meeting in Bhopal On Friday, stepping up pressure for a thorough investigation into the matter.
A new chapter of political storm has started in Madhya Pradesh, and this time the name that is creating a stir in the politics of Madhya Pradesh is the MP tribal leader Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. Today, Umang Singhar along with a delegation of Congress MLAs approached the office of the Director General of Income Tax Department. He had some documents in his hands, which he is calling "explosive evidence" of the transport scam. This meeting was not a simple formality, but a step that has put the ruling BJP of the state on the back foot.
This investigation will tell who owns the gold brick." His hint was clear - Congress is now not only targeting small characters, but is directly targeting the big leaders of the BJP government. Former Transport Minister and current Food Minister Govind Singh Rajput has been directly accused of misusing his position and creating benami property worth crores.
Umang Singhar leader of opposition claimed that Govind Singh Rajput committed large-scale corruption while working in the Transport Department and bought hundreds of acres of land in the name of his family members and close ones with this money. The complete details of these deals are present in the documents, which have now been handed over to the Income Tax Department.
"This is just the beginning. We will take this fight to the end. The big crocodiles who have looted the hard-earned money of the people will soon be exposed." Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh, who was present with him, also attacked the BJP government directly and said, "Now Congress will take this fight from the road to the House."
Singhar said that by arresting a constable of the transport department, the government is pretending, but the officers and politicians who received thousands of crores are still safe. He alleged that the current government of the state is "openly protecting corruption." Demand for investigation from Income Tax department after Lokayukta, EOW,
We had earlier complained to the Lokayukta and EOW, but now we have handed over the documents to the Income Tax Department as well."
The Income Tax Department has taken the documents seriously and the process of investigation has started at the initial level.
In a significant development in the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation, the agency has confirmed that the 52 kilograms of gold and Rs 11 crore in cash, seized from an abandoned vehicle in a Bhopal jungle, belong to Saurabh Sharma.
From Bhopal to Delhi, this scam is now being discussed in full swing.

CBI Raids Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel’s Home Days After ED Search
Just sixteen days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched the residence of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his son Chaitanya, a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reached Baghel’s residences in Raipur and Bhilai on Wednesday morning.
While the CBI has not officially stated the reason for the searches, political reactions have been strong. Baghel’s team took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and posted, “Now CBI has arrived. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is scheduled to go to Delhi today for the meeting of the ‘Drafting Committee’ for the AICC meeting in Ahmedabad on April 8 and 9. Even before that, CBI has reached Raipur and Bhilai residence.”
Congress Reacts to CBI Searches
Congress leaders have strongly condemned the move. Sushil Anand Shukla, head of Congress communications in Chhattisgarh, accused the central government of misusing agencies. “BJP’s Modi government has sent CBI to the residence of Congress National General Secretary and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel,” he said.
Former deputy CM and Congress leader T S Singh Deo also criticized the repeated actions against Baghel. He called it a political tactic by the BJP to divert public attention from governance issues in Chhattisgarh. “First ED, now CBI – these agencies are working as BJP’s B team. This is a clear violation of democracy,” he stated.
Ongoing Investigations
It remains unclear which case led to the CBI searches. The agency is currently investigating the illegal Mahadev betting app case and corruption allegations related to recruitment in the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CPSC) during the previous Congress-led government.
Previously, the ED conducted raids linked to a money laundering case in the alleged liquor scam that took place during Baghel’s tenure as CM.
With the fresh round of searches, political tensions in Chhattisgarh continue to rise, with opposition leaders claiming that investigative agencies are being used to target political opponents ahead of important elections. To read political news in Hindi, subscribe to our newsletter!

[ad_1] Paromita Das New Delhi: The political climate in Delhi has been stirred once again as the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government files a case against Satyendar Jain, a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former PWD minister. The allegations, linked to a ₹571-crore CCTV project, accuse Jain of corruption, misuse of power, and jeopardizing public trust in governance. This development has added fuel to an already intense political rivalry between the AAP and the BJP, with both sides trading accusations over public fund mismanagement. The ₹571-Crore CCTV Project: A Public Safety Initiative Under Scrutiny The CCTV project was originally launched to enhance public safety in Delhi by installing surveillance cameras in strategic locations across the city. The initiative aimed to tackle rising security concerns and provide real-time monitoring of critical areas. However, the project has now come under fire due to accusations of substandard execution, corruption, and political maneuvering. According to the ACB, Satyendar Jain is alleged to have arbitrarily waived ₹16 crore in liquidated damages that had been imposed on Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), the firm responsible for the project, for delays in the installation process. The waiver, reportedly granted in exchange for a ₹7 crore bribe, has raised serious questions about governance and the ethical conduct of public officials. Joint Commissioner of Police (ACB) Madhur Verma confirmed that the case was filed under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, following the required sanctions. The allegations are based on multiple complaints that highlighted poor execution of the project. At the time of handover, several CCTV cameras were found nonfunctional, sparking criticism of the project’s management and accountability. Broader Corruption Allegations: Inflated Costs in Classroom Construction The CCTV project controversy is not an isolated case involving the Delhi government. In a separate complaint filed in July 2019, BJP leader Harish Khurana and former AAP MLA Kapil Mishra, now with the BJP, accused the AAP government of another major scam. This time, the allegations were tied to the construction of 12,748 classrooms in government schools. According to the complaint, the cost of constructing classrooms was inflated nearly fivefold. While the actual cost of building a classroom was estimated at ₹5 lakh, the tender quoted ₹24.86 lakh per room. The cost per square foot also rose from ₹1,500 to an exorbitant ₹8,800. This alleged manipulation of construction costs has drawn attention to deeper governance issues within the AAP administration, further straining its public image. Political Implications and Public Reactions The allegations against Satyendar Jain have sparked heated debates in political circles and the media. The BJP has used these cases as ammunition to attack the AAP, accusing it of betraying public trust and mismanaging taxpayer money. BJP spokespersons have demanded Jain’s resignation and called for stricter oversight of public projects in Delhi. On the other hand, the AAP has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, accusing the BJP of orchestrating a smear campaign to discredit its leaders. Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister and AAP leader, has stood by Jain, claiming the accusations are an attempt to divert attention from the central government’s failures. Public reaction has been mixed. While some citizens are disillusioned by the recurring corruption scandals, others believe these allegations must be thoroughly investigated before drawing conclusions. The demand for transparency and accountability in public projects has grown louder, with many calling for independent audits of major government expenditures. Expert Opinions on Governance and Corruption Experts in public policy and governance have weighed in on the issue, highlighting the systemic problems in public project implementation. “The allegations against
Satyendar Jain and the AAP highlight the urgent need for robust checks and balances in government procurement processes,” said R.K. Sharma, a former bureaucrat. He emphasized that corruption in public projects not only wastes taxpayer money but also undermines trust in democratic institutions. Some analysts have also pointed to the role of political rivalries in amplifying corruption allegations. While accountability is crucial, they argue that such cases often become tools for political vendettas, diluting the focus on systemic reforms. The Bigger Picture: Accountability in Governance The controversy surrounding the ₹571-crore CCTV project and inflated classroom construction costs underscores the need for greater transparency in public spending. While technological initiatives like CCTV installation are critical for urban safety, they must be executed with accountability to ensure they serve their intended purpose. Similarly, the education sector, which has been a key focus of the AAP government, must be held to the highest standards of financial integrity. Any misuse of funds not only hampers the progress of public welfare projects but also erodes the trust citizens place in their leaders. The allegations against Satyendar Jain and the AAP government represent a critical juncture for Delhi’s political and governance landscape. Whether these claims are politically motivated or rooted in genuine corruption, they serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability in public administration. As investigations unfold, it is imperative for both the ACB and the judiciary to act impartially, ensuring that justice is served and public confidence in governance is restored. In a democracy, the integrity of leaders and the transparency of public projects are non-negotiable. Delhi’s citizens deserve not only effective governance but also the assurance that their hard-earned money is being used responsibly. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly shape the discourse on corruption and accountability in Bharat’s capital for years to come.     The post Corruption Allegations Rock Delhi: Satyendar Jain and the ₹571-Crore CCTV Project Scandal appeared first on Global Governance News- Asia's First Bilingual News portal for Global News and Updates. Indian Elections
India, the world's largest democracy, conducts elections that are monumental in scale and complexity. The process involves millions of voters, numerous political parties, and a vast array of issues that influence the electoral outcomes. Understanding the intricacies of Indian elections can provide insights into the democratic pulse of this diverse nation. The election system in India is managed by the Election Commission of India, an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering all the electoral processes in the Republic of India. The body ensures that elections are free, fair, and impartial. The general elections, held every five years, determine the composition of the Parliament and the central government. Voting in India is a massive logistical challenge due to the country's large population and geographical diversity. The electorate exceeds 900 million people spread across various terrains, from remote villages in the Himalayas to the bustling cities along the coast. To accommodate all eligible voters, polling stations are set up extensively, including in some of the most remote and inaccessible areas of the country. Political parties in India range from national giants like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) to regional parties that wield significant influence in specific states. These parties often reflect a wide spectrum of ideologies and interests, including economic policies, social justice, religious movements, and more. Campaigning in Indian elections is a colorful and intense affair. Parties use rallies, door-to-door canvassing, posters, and increasingly, digital media to reach out to voters. The role of social media has grown exponentially in recent years, mirroring global trends in other major democracies such as US Elections. Election financing is another critical aspect of the electoral process. Test manages to keep track of the financial expenditures during these periods. The Supreme Court of India has issued guidelines to ensure transparency in the funding of political parties and candidates. Despite these regulations, campaign finance remains a complex issue plagued by allegations of corruption and illicit funding. The actual voting process employs Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which have been used since 1999. These machines are credited with reducing instances of vote tampering and speeding up the counting process. However, they have also faced criticism and scrutiny regarding their security and reliability. Once the votes are cast, the counting process begins, which usually lasts for several hours or even days. The results determine not only the future government but also have a profound impact on India's international relations, economic policies, and societal norms. The outcomes of Indian elections can influence global markets and international politics. As a rising superpower, India's political stability and policy directions are closely watched by leaders and analysts around the world. For instance, how India handles its economic reforms, environmental policies, and military expenditures post-elections can affect global alliances and economic partnerships. Test also notes that voter turnout in Indian elections often reflects the public's trust in the electoral process and their enthusiasm for participating in governance. High voter turnout is seen as a positive indicator of a healthy democracy. In conclusion, Indian elections are a festival of democracy where millions participate with fervor and hope. They encapsulate not only the aspirations of the common man but also reflect the challenges faced by a nation as diverse as India. Each election cycle brings new hopes for progress and development, making it a subject of study and admiration worldwide.
