#Battlestar Galactica Drabble
Text
I posted another Starpollo (kind of) drabble, feel free to check it out! This isn't my best one but I still wanted to share it since it is a successful 500 word drabble. This is more angst than anything, be warned lol.
Also on a semi-unrelated note, I'll be posting the update of my cousins reactions to season 2 finale sometime soon! I'm getting my wisdom teeth ripped out tomorrow so I'll be at home recovering for like at least a week so I'll have an unbearable amount of time to write and make Tumblr posts lol. If I'm feeling up to it my cousin is coming over Saturday to start season 3, I'll keep y'all posted about that.

Damage Control (ways of knowing)
Goes with this one if you squint.
--------
“When did you know?”
“Does it matter, Bill?”
“When?” Today, just now, his eyes plead, so she looks away.
Know is such a funny word, she thinks. When did she know? When Cottle knew? Did it only count as knowing if she’d been told, officially, according to numbers on a clipboard or cells under a microscope? Or was it that night she’d first noticed the hard little lump under her arm as she showered - the same day she’d accidentally found a few old chamalla pills stashed forgotten in a pocket of her briefcase?
What did anybody ever really know, anyway?

To Regret It All
This colony ship was cleanest start for a new civilization out of any of Earth's attempts. Most included seeds for new societies in their designs; for example, the Hero's Journey kept many stories of old Earth alive, though the deterioration of their physical records means that most are now kept as oral histories or long-distorted fables. Some took the risk of cryogenically freezing their passengers and crew, though that rarely, if ever, worked. After all, everyone dies eventually.
To Regret It All, however, kept a strict divide between their passengers and crew, and replicated Earth's environments as closely as space allowed with rotational gravity and a massive tube-shaped biosphere. The second generation born on their long voyage did not even know they were on a spaceship, let alone why. The crew, once they ensured the ship would reach their destination - a planet as Earth-like as they could find - were frozen for any emergencies the ship's advanced autopilot could not handle. When To Regret It All reached its final destination, the crew was euthanized, and their whole section of the ship - including the autopilot AI - was ejected and destroyed. In this way, the civilization born of the Regret was something as wholly new as possible.
Of course, no one can escape the influence of their parents, despite the efforts of the Regret. Some believe that the passengers of the Regret are actually the closest people to those of old Earth, as they did not start over from a template or goal. They just kept living, albeit in a much more confined - and, well, cylindrical - space than a true planetoid. Others believe that the first generation of colonists instilled a certain value in originality and fresh ideas, rather than a true blank slate. Others still suspect that a certain ease of living permeated their early years, due to the lack of real danger built into To Regret It All, and the people's inability to truly explore their surroundings. Who is to say? We can only hope that the passengers and crew of the Regret rest easy, knowing that they did the best they could.
Though, after the autopilot and crew were killed, the colonists certainly had a very eventful landing.

20 Questions for Fic Writers Tag Game
@whetstonefires tagged me! 17 was missing, and I searched for the meme and found one that had a question 17, so it's back!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
256! But that's going back 18 years, so it's an average of a little over 14 fics per year.
2. what’s your total AO3 word count?
1,245,329. Which works out to an average of 4900 words per fic, or 69k words/year. Respectable, solid, but I know a lot of people who've written more.
Oh! But there are a couple of podfics in there, which probably skews the words-per-work a bit.
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Uh. A quick count gives me 112 fandoms on my AO3 page, so ... a lot. I regularly write for Yuletide, and I'm polyfannish, so. A lot. I used to be big into Stargate SG-1, so I've written a lot of that but not recently. Other top fandoms include Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, various DC fandoms, various Star Trek and Star Wars fandoms, Babylon 5, Terminator (especially the Sarah Connor Chronicles), the Vorkosiverse, the Goblin Emperor, and Rivers of London.
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Past Lives (a stalled WIP that is a Star Wars time travel fixit starring Finn)
Lieutenant Bennet's Visit (Temeraire/P&P with Bennet as an aviator)
Darcy's Surprise (sequel to the above fic)
Revenge of the Zillo Beast (Star Wars, Anakin-and-Mace-Windu Groundhog Day AU)
Far Above Rubies (P&P AU, Marry Bennet marries Mr. Collins and is quite happy)
5. do you respond to comments?
Yup! Or, at least, the ones that are more than an emoji or "second kudos!" I value those too, it's just ... what would I say?
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't tend to go in for angsty endings. But, as it happens, I did write an ending lately that was fairly dark.
Fertile Ground, Battlestar Galactica, Simon only bothered to continue the fertility experiments because the others demanded it. Things are different on New Caprica. Warnings for canon-typical ... everything
7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
How would one even judge? I have 256 fics, most of which have positive endings of one sort or another.
8. do you get hate on fics?
Not really? Or, at least, it's probably happened sometime in the last 18 years, but I just deleted it and forgot about it. I am very lucky, I know other writers who've gone through hell.
9. do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope!
10. do you write crossovers?
I love crossovers! AO3 thinks I have 38, but a few of those aren't really crossovers, just different corners of the same universe, and one of them is the work that combines most of my Twisting the Hellmouth crossover drabbles into one drabble collection. (The ones where I had several drabbles in a sequence to tell a longer story, I separated out to each be their own fic.) Anyway, it averages out to about two a year, although I have not written as many in the last few years as I did earlier in my fic writing career. Most recently, I have:
A Spy on the Golden State Train (Miss Fisher/Agent Carter gen)
Undiscovered Stars (Star Trek/Star Wars, Lando Calrissian/James T. Kirk)
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Oh, sure, there have been a couple of times people have put some of my fics on those skeevy for-profit websites that pop up every now and again.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Twice! Both times into Russian. Though oddly enough, none of my Vorkosiverse fics have been translated into Russian. There is a very large and active Russian fandom for the Vorkosigan saga, so if I were going to predict which of my fics would be translated into Russian, it would be those. But no, the two that were translated are a DS9 fic, and a Doctor Who/Mary Poppins crossover.
Тридцать четвертое правило by Lazurit (The 34th Rule, DS9)
Завтра ветер переменится by Kollega (A Change in the Wind, DW/Mary Poppins)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
That's tough to answer. Does it include the ones that I abandoned, say, 15 years ago and haven't thought of since? I don't tend to post WIPs because I don't like them hanging over me.
Probably Hello, Piccadilly, Hello, Leicester Square, a Wonder Woman post-movie fic about Diana trying to figure out how to live in Man's World. I had a really great hook--they pass Diana off as a war bride--but no real idea where to go from there. Which is why it stalled out after only two chapters.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Worldbuilding, probably.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Endings and action. I am not good at writing either of them. The thing I am most likely to need a beta's help with is whether or not an ending feels like an ending or if I need to wrap things up better, and if so, what do I need to do to wrap things up. And action bores me, and it's really hard to write something that bores you, so I try to avoid needing to write it.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I don't speak any other languages, so I wouldn't do it! Unless maybe I had someone who had already volunteered to translate for me.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Stargate SG-1! It was a spitefic that I wrote because I was so annoyed by all the Broca AUs. "The Broca Divide" was an episode where they all turn into cavepeople, and as part of it Sam Carter kisses her commanding officer, Jack O'Neill, who then takes her to the infirmary before succumbing to the infection himself. There were a ton of fics about that where they have sex instead and she gets pregnant, and afterwards she keeps the baby and they get married and everything is fine and the team stays together and nobody cares about fraternization or anything.
(There were a LOT of Sam/Jack fics out there where like the President or whoever would call them up and say "oh, you're in love? awesome! we'll just waive all the regulations about having a romantic relationship with someone in your chain of command because you're so extra special and awesome. Which really annoyed me.)
Anyway, I got annoyed enough to write a fic where they sleep together as cavepeople and she gets pregnant and things are not fine, actually, there are consequences to it.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
lol
I can never figure out my favorite anything. If you give me five options, I could maybe narrow it down to the top two. Out of 256? You have got to be kidding me.
Tagging @tielan, @alexseanchai, @mihrsuri, @birdylion, @anghraine

Heya! I'm just someone who's weirdly obsessed with galaxies and night or evening sky aesthetics who's absolutely HOOKED on Sci-Fi's! I was inspired to create this blog because of my latest obsession, Battlestar Galactica, but my true love is Star Trek TOS! <3
If you want to know about me, I'm an artist and inconsistent writer.. never really finished a story in my life. But I love writing as an art! I appreciate good writing a lot. All my favorite Sci-Fi's have good writing. Star Trek TOS, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly.
Though I will admit BSG certainly has it's problems. TOS had some charming issues (except Spock's brain, I will admit that was just plain terrible Q-Q) Firefly's biggest problem was its stupid movie. I will die on this hill, the movie was an okay film standing in the legacy of an incredible show and for that its a straight up O F F E N S E to me!
My favorite characters from each of these main fandoms;
James T. Kirk (Obviously I mean he's the GOAT) and Spock, Bill Adama and Laura Roslin (my OTP), and ofc, Mal and Simon Tam~

Batwoman (TV)
Trapped in the Closet - Kate was never afraid to come out to her father, but she is now. Episode tag to the season 1 finale. (lesbian Kate Kane)
Pride - A small army of Batwomen marched at Pride. Ryan should be marching with them. (lesbian Ryan Wilder)
Black Lightning (TV)
Comic Book Life - Comic book Thunder’s boyfriend knew what his woman did, so why couldn’t Anissa tell her girlfriend? (Anissa Pierce/Grace Choi)
Truth Will Out - Anissa’s in the closet about her superhero life. Three times she thought about telling Grace and one time she actually did. (Anissa Pierce/Grace Choi)

Fusion with A Companion to Wolves by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear. (Thomas Barrow, past Robert Crawley/John Bates)
Kipo and the Age of Wonerbeasts
Dream Girls - On the surface, Mulholland had given Wolf everything she had thought she wanted: her and Kipo, the two of them buff and tough and together. Her guilt had kept her from really enjoying it, but it hadn’t been why she fought back. (Wolf/Kipo)
The Hero Was You - Benson likes Troy and Troy likes Benson. Great! Now all Benson has to do is figure out what to do about it. (Benson/Troy)
A Post Post-Apocalyptic Romance - It was kind of wild when he thought about it. Benson and Troy had fallen for each other super fast, but, between the rescue and the other rescue and all the running around with HMUFA, they’d never really gotten to know each other. Luckily, without Scarlemagne and Dr. Emilia trying to capture and/or kill them, they finally had the time to get to know each other as Benson introduced Troy to the city. (Benson/Troy)
Miraculous Ladybug
Better Than Ice Cream - Orange, mint, and raspberry could be a tasty combination. The solution to every love triangle should be polyamory, but sometimes it’s just not that simple. Spoilers for Love-Eater. (Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Adrien Agreste/Kagami Tsurugi)
The Old Guard
Take What the Water Gave Me - Quynh drowns and wakes and in between are Booker and Andromache. She would take his life if she could. So she does. (Quynh/Andy)

Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl - There’s something magical about Uncle Felix’s flat.  Maybe it’s all the art. (Kira Manning, gay Felix Dawkins, lesbian Cosima Niehaus)

She-Ra (Modesty) Shorts - Three very short Catra/Adora stories. (Catra/Adora)
Parting Strands - Looking out for each other had been their thing, but Adora’s starting to suspect that’s over. Her thoughts during that scene in "Promise.” (Catra/Adora)

Another First Kiss - Five times Catra thought about kissing Adora and one time Adora kissed her. (Catra/Adora)
Spider-man (Ultimates verse)

We Were Orphans Before - The first time Jessica ran into Peter after the Wave she grabbed him into a hug. (gender-queer Jessica Drew, Peter Parker)

Rules: give us the links to your fic with the most hits, second most kudos, third most comments, fourth most bookmarks, fifth most words, and finally the fic with the least words.
Most hits: An Unquiet Night (Stargate Atlantis, John/Elizabeth and Sam /Jack)
A fun snarky, lightly angsty piece mostly focused on J/E but also drawing parallels between their possible relationship turmoil after Epiphany with Sam/Jack's experience after 100 Days. Takes place in Jack's cabin and I loved writing that setting.
Second most kudos: Wildfire (Stargate Atlantis, John/Elizabeth)
My first ever fanfic! And the first piece of writing I've ever shared publicly outside of school assignments. Because of this, I'll forever have a soft spot for this one even if my abilities have improved. A little hurt/comfort episode tag for The Storm/Eye.
Third most comments: Resolve (Stargate Atlantis, John/Elizabeth)
A short series of moments during the Siege, surrounding John's self-sacrificial mission to nuke the Hive ship. This was my first real experiment in trying to write in broader strokes, and with more immediacy/giving a more intimate glimpse into the characters' minds. I appreciate it for giving me that practice.
Fourth most bookmarks: It's a tie between a few of 'em so I'll just choose my favorite out of those (also I'm counting private bookmarks too): Dreamland (Stargate Atlantis, John/Elizabeth)
Not my favorite story overall, but my favorite out of this tie mostly because I love the potential plot laid out and I feel that this story has given me the most practice in improving my writing and digging deeper into the characters' psychology/emotions. It's by far the longest (and unfortunately far from complete). The story is meant to be quite a long saga that takes a lot of inspiration from Battlestar Galactica, exploring the origins and trauma (as well as vindictiveness) of the Pegasus Replicators as John/Elizabeth are trapped in another dimension. It features The Real World as a jumping off point.
Fifth most words: Something Beautiful (Stargate Atlantis, John/Elizabeth)
My first ever (non-drabble) story written for Sparktober! This is a short future fic featuring Elizabeth and John at a fancy dinner party, in which they end up dealing with some unresolved angst following her capture on Asuras. I love this one because it really was a group effort; it was inspired by a conversation in the Sparktober discord. I just took everyone's ideas and tried to write a little bit of it!
Fic with the fewest words: (any of the drabbles so again I'll just choose my favorite) Machine Gun Blues (once again, Stargate Atlantis, John/Elizabeth)
This one's an episode tag to The Long Goodbye (which I'd still like to try writing a full length one shot for someday). Describes Elizabeth still suffering from the fading echoes of Phoebus.
Thank you to @winternightjewels for tagging me!
I'll tag: @ussjellyfish @havocthecat @peridotbelle

Got tagged by @benjaycaptain!
20 Qs for fic writers
1. How many works do you have on A03? 67
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 232,377
3. What fandoms do you write for? I have 31 tagged fandoms though one story (Don't Cross the Streams) has 6 fandoms in one drabble of which 4 I haven't posted anything else yet for those fandoms. Most are for Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, Marvel (MCU and comic), Doctor Who/Torchwood, House MD, and Samurai 7.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? The Kiss (House MD) 199, A Question of Memory (YGO) 138, The Waiting Game (YGO) 125, The Coffee God (Torchwood/MIB) 100, Exit...Stage Right? (MCU) 98.
5. Do you respond to comments? I've been bad about that but trying to get back to that this year- if I notice the notification email.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Don't really do angsty endings- guess the closest would be "Returning Hero" (Marvel 616) or "Remembrance Day" (Samurai 7) I guess.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Um, guess I'll go with "Someone, Somewhere" (YGO) since that's an alternate ending fic where Atem doesn't pass into the afterlife.
8. Do you get hate on fics? No.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yeah though it's pretty basic; I've tried to write PWPs (plot what plot) and end up with plot with smut.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Yep. Probably "Don't Cross the Streams".
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yep! "Coffee God" into Russian.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not directly- have used RP related material ("A Stitch in Time" (Marvel)) with permission and needed help with a few scenes from the creator of the character I was borrowing.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? All of them.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I haven't given up on any unfinished fics that have been posted.
16. What are your writing strengths? Mixing fandoms I suppose.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Using all 5 senses in my writing- at least that's what I want to work on.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I have done it- once fic has a bit of Gaelic but I was trying to learn it and just indulged on that one- I'll be rewriting that scene to eliminate that when I get back to it.
It's a hard balance to use it in dialogue but sometimes your viewpoint character will hear something they don't understand, and you can either point out it's something in another language or put a phrase in the language that your POV character doesn't know. I do drop words in for Mikel Fury since it's one way to show that though Mikel is Nick Fury's son, he is not American. It's usually only a word or two since I'm using the Dalmatic language (Marvel has Carpasia- the country Mikel's mother was from- set in the Dalmatia region of Croatia) that has been extinct since 1898 and can't find much in English on how the language worked.
19. First fandom you wrote for? ever? I guess technically Ranger Rick though I think it was for a contest. Star Wars would be the official start of my fanfic writing in '77- quickly followed by Battlestar Galactica ('78) and Doctor Who ('79).
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? I have a soft spot for "A Question of Memory" since that was the first fic that I felt I actually understood what I was doing and had a proper beginning, middle, and end there.
Tagging anyone who wants to dig into their AO3 stories! Thanks for the tag @benjaycaptain- this was fun!

Lost and Found
Angstober, Day 26: The day I lost you Fandoms: Doctor Who, ST: Strange New Worlds, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ST: Voyager Ships: Tenth Doctor & Donna, Batel/Pike, Pike/No. 1, Adama/Roslin, Tara/Willow, Janeway/ Chakotay AO3 link
four drabbles about losing someone you love and one about finding them
The Best Temp in Chiswick
I didn’t know today would be the day I lost you.
If I had, maybe I would have done something differently. But then, knowing me, probably not.
Maybe I would have let you choose our destination. Just one of thousands that you’ll never remember.
Would you have chosen the future? The past? The present but somewhere else entirely?
I’ll never know. I never asked. Too busy saving the galaxy again.
Actually, no.
You saved it this time.
You were - are - the best of us, Donna Noble. But you’ll never know.
You’ll just settle for being the best temp in Chiswick.
Number Two
I remember the day I lost you. Actually, it was the day I realized I’d never really had you to begin with.
It was the first time I saw you with her.
I saw how easy you were with her, how she made you smile. And later, I saw how hard you fought for her - fought me for her. How far you’d go to keep her in your life.
You won’t even commit to a vacation with me.
But of course you won’t. That would mean leaving her.
The day I lost you, I knew: I’ll always be Number Two.
Frak Pythia
The day I lost you should have been the best day of our lives. Instead, it was the worst day of mine… and the last day of yours.
This isn’t the way it was supposed to go - and don’t start quoting Pythia to me. Frak Pythia! This may have all happened before, but it didn’t have to happen again.
You earned so much more than death. You earned the chance to feel grass beneath your feet, to see the sun and the lake and the mountains from our cabin. To wear my ring while you could still know its meaning.
Darkness
I lost myself, on the day I lost you.
I cradled your lifeless, blood-soaked body in my arms and my whole world turned dark and … I’m not proud of what I did in the darkness.
As it turns out, you were right to be afraid of my power. Of me.
I’ve learned to control it, to keep the darkness at bay. But it isn’t easy.
But then, nothing is easy without you.
You are and always have been my guiding light. You kept me from succumbing to the darkness. In your memory, I will continue reaching for the light.
Vows
“The day I found you, I thought I knew who you were: a dangerous terrorist, a wild rebel, a criminal. Instead, I found someone else entirely: a man who is fiercely loyal, caring, thoughtful, and the other half of my soul. Turns out, I found exactly what I was looking for.”
“The day we were pulled into the Delta Quadrant, I thought I was lost forever. I was willing to sacrifice my ship and my life because they meant nothing. I may have lost my ship, but I found a life and a peace I had never dared hope for.”

I’m always so tempted to write fics or drabbles of the prompts that I send you, but I’m too scared to start a writing blog lol so I send them to the more experienced writers instead, aka you lol
This is so so sweet and I'm going to get on my soapbox now. A couple of random thoughts about starting to write:
If nerves about posting and external validation are your mental block, just slap whatever you're thinking in a Google doc or a note on your phone and keep it for yourself.
I have a folder on my Google Drive called "mine" where I write things I never plan to post (self-insert that uses my own name, Battlestar Galactica fanfic, a whole science fantasy saga that's been ping-ponging around in my head since I was 12) and it's not embarrassing because it's just mine. It's just writing for the sake of writing, for the satisfaction of putting your story into words, and for practice.
To me, that's self care. That's reclaiming writing from the content machine. That's romanticizing the human desire to just make something. And that's pretty beautiful, no? I think you deserve that.
You might not like everything you write. Actually, I can promise you won't. Some scenes might be tough to get through, or stretches of dialogue might not sound realistic. Maybe you'll take a break and come back to them later. Maybe you'll abandon a few pieces. Maybe you'll go back to some old work and think, "God, why did I write that?" and edit the hell out of it. No matter what, it's okay—because you're learning, and your own writing is a safe space to try, to fail, and to get back up so you can try some more. You'll only become a better writer for it.
Someday, you're going to find that you're particularly proud of something that you wrote. Maybe you like a turn of phrase. Maybe you like how you characterized someone. Maybe you like how alive the dialogue feels. Maybe, just maybe, that's the day when you're ready to share it with someone, and it'll resonate with them the same way that it resonated with you.
You'll get to experience something really special that day: the joy of experiencing your work for the first time again, but through someone else's eyes. They might see it in a brand new way compared to how you did, and for the few minutes that you're together in the little world you made, you're connected with that reader, sharing a little piece of being alive with each other.
If you ever do start a writing blog of your own, I'd love to follow you 💋

Bruises
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Pairing: Kara x Lee
Prompt: Bruises
WC: 500
TWs: mentions of ab*se, self-h*rm, bruises, etc.
***
Ever since she had gotten back from New Caprica Lee could tell Kara was different. He didn't know what had happened to her there but he knew something had at least, something that had changed her.
She never talked about it and while he couldn't blame her, he wished she would. That she would open up about it because maybe it would lessen the pain. But he knew that wasn't how Kara worked. She faced her problems and pain alone, she always did her best to make sure to not put them on others, or make them anyone else's problem too.
The first week after she had come back had been the worst. She had been the most different and far off, hard to reach. And he couldn't ignore the bruises.
Someone had hurt her. Abused her. And it pissed him off. He knew it hadn't been Sam but sometimes a part of him had wished it was so she'd have an excuse to leave him and Lee could finally have her, since she had chosen to run instead when he had offered her the idea to finally be together.
There weren't a lot, but it was enough, especially if you looked closely. Especially if you knew Kara like he did. She never let people hurt her, if she could help it. So seeing her as beat up as she was was concerning, to know someone had worn her down enough to the point where she just took the abuse rather than tried to fight it. Where that was the easier option.
And while the injuries were clearly from abuse of some sort he couldn't help but to wonder if any were self inflicted. If she had tried to escape whatever hell she had faced there by attempting to die. If it had been bad enough he knew she probably had. If her spirit had gotten broken beyond repair.
He knew it had because otherwise she would have been making jokes about it after day one. To make light of it, to cope, because that's what she typically did.
But she instead stayed quiet about it and Kara never stayed quiet. She was brash and loud and hated keeping to herself. She always spoke her mind.
She wasn't just staying silent. She was hiding too, and that was even more concerning. She was locking herself away, refusing to talk to anyone and almost seeming scared whenever someone tried to approach her. That was the biggest difference. Kara Thrace never showed fear, but now it seemed to be the only emotion she had left.
Lee knew the physical bruises would go away sooner or later, but the internal ones wouldn't. Those were the ones he was most concerned about.
And while she was avoiding everyone he knew he would have to be the one person to try and heal her wounds. And maybe, if he was lucky, she'd let him.
Maybe he could fix her bruises, once and for all.
***
A little ficlet/quintuple drabble I wrote. Inspired by the word bruises. I feel like this could be a good intro to a longer fic or oneshot. Maybe one day I will add to it. For now though it'll just remain as this as I'm challenging myself to write more drabbles/ficlets because even my one shots usually end up being at least 2k words. I have been physically incapable of writing anything short for Kara and Lee thus far and I'm wanting to change that so this is one of my first attempts. I have another I posted in a Tumblr community and another that is in my Google docs. But that's only 3 (around 1500 words) out of around the total 170,000 words I have written for this pair/fandom. That says a lot haha. I have a tendency to overcomplicate things or at least struggle to write any simple and more vague one shots so I am forcing myself to do exactly that at least a little bit more. So far I like the results and hope I can keep coming up with good ones. I will be posting this on AO3 as well within the next day or so just y'all are aware haha. Feel free to let me know your thoughts too :)

Rules: List your “top 10” (or up to 10 if you haven’t written that many) fics ranked by kudos on AO3. Are you surprised by what’s most popular to your readers? Then, under a cut, provide your ranking of your personal top 10 fics (with explanations if you want!), and then tag a few fellow writers!
So, I’ve just got 10 stories posted to AO3 so here they are. Some are for rare-pairings and older tv shows or films, so most don’t have many kudos at all, so if you happen to be keen to read them & like them, drop a kudos & a comment. I’ve put my personal rankings in front of the stories.

Sterner Stuff
Another Wednesday drabble. We still doing this?
------------------
The draft in the corridor reminds Bill how cold the nights got on that planet as summer turned to fall. It must be the dead of winter now, he thinks and tries not to imagine them huddling around makeshift heaters on that cylon-infested rock. He tries to hold them in his mind as he wants to believe they are - Saul, jovial and tipsy with Ellen by his side; Kara, brash and playful; Laura, flirtatious and healthy in that red dress… But when the raptor returns, other images intrude. Broken bodies, broken souls.  No, he decides. They’re made of sterner stuff.

Tagged by @junkshop-disco — and I do indeed love a good bit of statistics!
rules: give us the links to your fics with the most hits, second most kudos, third most comments, fourth most bookmarks, fifth most words, and fic with the fewest words.
Most hits: Never and Always (BBC’s Musketeers, Athos/Milady) Milady turns around at Le Havre at the end of Season 2, and everything changes. Intended as a oneshot for a prompt, grew into the longest fic I have ever posted (and the start of a multi-part AU) ... all without ever addressing the original prompt. Oops.
Second most kudos: A Pear and an Apple (X-Men comics, Kitty + Storm) Kitty celebrates Tu b'Shevat during her first year at the mansion with some unexpected company. Written for Jewish Comics Day, deliberately using a less-known holiday.
Third most comments: echo (Fate: the Winx Saga, Farah/Saul) Every time Saul has a nightmare, Farah feels it through their bond. Alternatively: Charis once again writes all-ages-appropriate (and fairly gen) fic in response to a kink meme prompt, or "oneshot fail, part 3,724". I regret nothing, except possibly not ending with a +1 of pain.
Fourth most bookmarks: we have a tie! Penitent (BBC’s Musketeers, Athos/Milady) “Five years you were faithful to my memory ... but I leave for a week and you cannot even keep your hands off yourself.” A birthday gift that's pretty much 5k of filthy smut punctuated by Athos' inevitable issues. three times true (BBC’s Musketeers, Athos/Milady) Five times Athos surprised Milady, from pre-canon through the end of S2. A response to an anonymous prompt, exploring Milady's character over time.
Fifth most words: instinctively (Fate: the Winx Saga, Farah/Saul) Saul Silva and the terrible horrible no-good very bad flower. Mandatory sex pollen fic, where Saul reluctantly asks Farah for help and things escalate. Another kink meme fill ... that at ~7500 words definitely shows that I don't tend to write a lot of long fic.
Fewest words: Belief (Battlestar Galactica reboot, Roslin) Believing is preferable to thinking herself crazy ... A Roslin drabble that was one of my earliest forays into that fandom (and the start of a headlong tumble back into writing).
Tagging: (only if you feel like it!) @aserene, @somenamewithepineapple, @rxnefairs, @relentlessescapism, and anyone who wants to do this and tag me so I can see your results?

A banner day!
Tumblr media
Listen I know this little milestone isn’t that big a deal, but HEY A Dangerous Affinity has climbed into my top hits on AO3. Kicking a drabble from 2014 off of the winner’s podium. (ADE has already beaten this Battlestar Galactica snip by every other metric)
