✨ a film for every year of my life ✨ | Belfast (2021) dir. Kenneth Branagh
I wouldn’t worry about it, the Irish were born for leaving. Otherwise the rest of the world would have no pubs. Just needs half of us to stay so that the other half can get sentimental about the ones that went. All the Irish need to survive is a phone, a Guinness, and a sheet music to Danny Boy.

Kenneth Branagh's 3rd Hercule Poirot movie is coming!
Branagh is back starring as detective Hercule Poirot and returns as director for A Haunting in Venice from 20th Century Studios.
This time around, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Jude Hill and Kelly Reilly have been recruited for the all-star ensemble, with Emma Laird, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Ali Khan and Riccardo Scamarico also on the call sheet. Their character names have yet to be revealed.
Production is set to begin October 31 2022, Halloween Day, which is fitting since Haunting is inspired by the 1969 Christie novel, Hallowe'en Party.
That story saw the mystery set in motion when a 13-year old girl, who claimed she witnessed a murder when she was younger, is found dead in an apple-bobbing tub. The studio described the adaptation, written by Michael Green, as an "unsettling supernatural-thriller" and shared its logline: "Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world's most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets."
"This is a fantastic development of the character Hercule Poirot, as well as the Agatha Christie franchise," said Branagh in a statement. "Based on a complex, little known tale of mystery set at Halloween in a pictorially ravishing city, it is an amazing opportunity for us, as filmmakers, and we are relishing the chance to deliver something truly spine-chilling for our loyal movie audiences."
Judy Hofflund is back as a producer. Exec producers include Louise Killin and James Prichard, along with filmmakers Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg and Mark Gordon.

Somehow I haven’t really heard anything or anyone about this film. Which I don’t quite understand, because it’s actually a beautiful film. I love the way it was shot, great cast and just a story worth telling. Is it a new favorite of mine? No. But I do recommend it. Belfast received the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Kenneth Branagh.

BELFAST: A Compelling Movie Based on Northern Ireland
Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical account, BELFAST, is a treat to watch. This visually stunning and emotionally captivating movie tells a remarkable tale of Belfast in 1969, at a time when Northern Ireland was raging civil war. As tensions between the Catholics and the Protestants in the city are rising during the period referred to as “the troubles”, Branagh depicts Belfast through Buddy…

Belfast - Film Review
Belfast – Film Review
It’s impossible not to be charmed by Kenneth Branagh’s personal, warm-hearted movie about the city of his childhood, even if it’s ultimately a tad too slight to really hit hard emotionally. Continue reading Untitled

Rookie-Critic's Top 20 Films of 2021: #10 - Belfast (dir. Kenneth Branagh)
Tumblr media
A front-runner for the Best Picture win this year, Belfast presents a pretty dark time in Northern Ireland's history through the perspective of innocence incarnate, Buddy. This semi-autobiographical and very out of character film from thespian Kenneth Branagh is one of the most easily endearing of the year. Jude Hill is just about one of the cutest kids to ever grace the big screen and watching this story unfold through his eyes makes the bitter pill of The Troubles a little easier to swallow. Caitriona Balfe also gives a stunning performance as the mother of the central family and the soundtrack, which largely consists of songs by Van Morrison, is utilized to its fullest. It's one of those movies that has a kind of hidden charm, where the parts aren't bad by any means, but the whole ends up being so much greater than the sum of those parts. There's really not much to complain about with Belfast, just a very easy, heartwarming, fun time.
Score: 10/10
Currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
