Trigun Bookclub: Trigun Vol.1-2, Chapter #09
previous | all | next
I’m doing a deep-read of the Japanese original print (reread) and Overhaul 1.0 (first read) side-by-side, and writing down everything I notice from small details, version differences, translation differences, etc.
The volume numbers will be mismatched for most of the remainder of Trigun, since the Japanese first edition is 3 volumes while all later versions are 2 volumes.
As always, here are the non-analysis panels:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the rest is under the cut.
[link for if the images aren’t in horizontal rows]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To start off, we have Meryl talking about buying designer handbags. This part was very confusing in Japanese because even though I could recognize Prada, the two other brands she named were completely bogus to me. What the hell are エピピ(Epipi) and NCM!?
So I asked my mom about it last night (she knows a decent amount about brands popular in the 90's, since she was still living in Japan back then). She was also stumped for a bit, but after a while she asked to see the way "Prada" looked. She noticed that it was written like プラーダ(purāda) rather than the correct プラダ(purada). I didn't notice because I don't know shit about fashion... but she suggested that maybe all of these were slight variations on real-life brands. She said that NCM is probably based on MCM Worldwide.
Epipi probably took a solid 20 minutes to figure out.... We were naming every brand on earth searching for anything that could even vaguely sound like "epipi." Right when we nearly ran out of ideas, she thought of googling just part of the name, like "epi brand," and voila, apparently there's a line of Louis Vuitton leather called Epi.
Epipi (and brain soup) is an inside joke between us now btw.
Tumblr media
The chapter cover!! Everyone here is so damn cute... also I'm sitting almost exactly how Vash is right now.
This is the second appearance of Vash's shades. I can't see the details, but the design looks the same as the one before.
Tumblr media
I'd completely forgotten how tiny Kaito is??? Literally half of Vash's height.
Vash's response to Kaito's insult(?) is「お前そりゃないだろ…」and is something more like "C'mon, man..." or "Seriously?"
big eyes vash big eyes vash i want to scoop him up and put him in a jar with holes in the lid
Tumblr media
It's so cool how Vash immediately understands exactly what's going on through what he's overhearing, thanks to his childhood on the spaceship and his time at Home. How can this man not drive
I think the engineer is talking about the Plant here, so it should be "The shock could kill it." (although the Plant dying would also kill everyone else. ykwim)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Didn't know that guy was called a helmsman.... In Japanese, the word for helmsman, 操舵手 (the scan is super blurry and looked like 士 but the correct word is 手) was written as ライツ(raitsu) with 操舵手 written in the ruby. Maybe raitsu was the name of the helmsman? Or it might be something else boat-related that I don't know about.
Vash's silent reaction to Kaito's words say a lot. This behavior is nearly identical to Vash's (again, more so in Maximum, after Vash remembers the events of July and gets even more depressed). He understands Kaito's pain and guilt, and worries for him, but he also can't help but see himself in the boy... however he feels about that. This gets a bit more into theory territory, but I think Vash doesn't want Kaito to turn out like himself. Of course, he wants everyone to strive for peace; he wants people to be like that part of himself, in that regard. However, he doesn't want people to act self-destructive like he is. One obvious reason is that Vash genuinely doesn't want Kaito to be hurt, especially when he believes that people always deserve to start over and live a happy life.... But another underlying reason could be that he doesn't like percieving parts of himself in others, out of self-hatred.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of my favorite lines ever!!!!! (has 50 favorites)(its not my fault trigun/trimax is so constantly banger) While humans views the Plant as a tool and an incomprehensible being, Vash simply views them as just a girl that needs calming down—"people" just like him and everyone else. He has a familial relationship with every Plant, which I absolutely adore. And!!! I will expand on this bit in the next(I think) arc and beyond, or maybe even make a separate post!!! I have so many thoughts surrounding this and it's a core theme to Trigun as a whole.
Noting some SFX since some non-Japanese readers may not have noticed - the plant is making a high-pitched scream from here on. Also, Kaito says that it's a "voice," not a "sound."
Tumblr media
More Plant object-person dichotomy!! This unfortunately gets lost in translation, but it's a very neat storytelling trick. In Japanese, This is written in an interesting way:「プラント―― それは『造りだ』もの」 with もの(mono) having dots above them (in this context acting like italicization for emphasis in English). Usually, this もの would be more specific. There's 物(mono) which means "object" or "thing," and there's 者(mono) which means "person" or sometimes "being." The narrator intentionally leaves the identity of the Plant vague. Again, in humans' eyes, Plants are machines of production. In Vash's eyes, Plants are full-fledged people.
I would write that line closer to the original format, with quotes around "creates" and leaving it at that.
A longer translation correction—just going to transcribe it here:
水 紫外線 酸素 そして微電力を与える事によって物理法則を超えた『生産』活動を行う生体システムである They are organic systems that, when fed water, ultraviolet light, oxygen, and a bit of electricity, can "produce" things in a process that surpasses all physical law.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sound effect here is loud footsteps on metal. I think it's neat that Nightow showed Vash running up the stairs with just onomatopoea and a shot of the stairs.
In Japanese, Vash says that he's counting on/leaving the rest up to the engineers/the others on the ship, after telling them to deal with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, Vash considers the Plant his family, a sister. He is talking directly to them and treating them with respect. The word used here is actually 兄弟(kyoudai), which means "brother(s)"/olderbrother-youngerbrother, where in this situation with a brother and sister of unspecified age/order it would usually just be きょうだい(kyoudai, spelled out)... it may be that back then, people didn't really specify or mix-and-match sibling gender (姉弟 兄妹 etc) in writing as much as we do now.
The first appearance of feathers on Vash!! During my first read, I was absolutely mesmerized by this page. Mannnnnnn the angel imagery....
Also bonus reaction from my dear friend from my Instagram liveposting back in April (yeah. my first read was only a bit over 2 months ago). booty CRACK
Tumblr media
This is the "beeeeeeep" sound of a flatlining heart monitor. Until now I thought it was more of an imaginary thing to show that their hearts have stopped, but I just realized that it may also be a real sound of the Plant's vital monitors. Could be either, to be honest.
Tumblr media
Apparently "yards" are normal? In Japanese it's written as ヤーズ(yādzu, yards) instead of what would regularly be just ヤード(yādo, yard), so that may be the subtle miles-iles change?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This line would be "The pipes are stuck! They won't even budge!"
And the SFX here is a distant chattering and cheering crowd.
Tumblr media
And here is the last scene, with Kaito humming Rem's favorite song. Idk, this just gives me a raw emotional reaction... I can't really analyze it lol. Rejoicing that you've survived through hardship. That while things still aren't perfect, this imminent danger has passed. That you still get to enjoy being alive. The same song of humanity still sang. Something something....
Anyways that’s it for Chapter #09! As always, the Japanese annotations are in the reblogs.

How Can Students Use a Personal Loan for Skill Development?
In today’s competitive world, acquiring new skills is essential for career growth and personal development. Many students seek to enroll in certification courses, professional training programs, or specialized skill development workshops to enhance their employability. However, the cost of such programs can be high, making it difficult for students to afford them upfront. This is where a personal loan can be a viable financial option.
A personal loan provides students with immediate financial assistance to enroll in skill-based programs without financial constraints. In this article, we will explore how students can use a personal loan for skill development, its advantages, eligibility criteria, repayment strategies, and alternative financing options.
1. Can Students Take a Personal Loan for Skill Development?
Yes, students can take a personal loan to finance their skill development programs, online courses, certifications, and vocational training. Unlike an education loan, which is usually restricted to degree programs, a personal loan offers flexibility in fund utilization.
✅ Common Skill Development Programs That Can Be Financed with a Personal Loan:
IT and Coding Bootcamps
Digital Marketing Courses
Graphic Designing and Animation
Foreign Language Training
Data Science and AI Certifications
Photography and Film-Making Courses
Professional Certifications (e.g., CFA, PMP, ACCA, etc.)
Public Speaking and Leadership Training
Entrepreneurship and Business Management Programs
📌 Tip: Before taking a loan, research the course credibility, career prospects, and potential ROI (Return on Investment).
2. Benefits of Using a Personal Loan for Skill Development
Using a personal loan for career-oriented courses can provide several benefits.
✅ Advantages:
✔ Immediate Access to Funds: Enroll in courses without financial delays. ✔ No Restrictions on Usage: Unlike education loans, personal loans allow flexible fund usage. ✔ Fast Loan Processing: Approval and disbursal in 24-48 hours. ✔ No Collateral Required: Unsecured loans eliminate the need for security. ✔ Flexible Repayment Options: Choose a suitable loan tenure (1-5 years). ✔ Enhances Employability: Acquiring new skills increases job opportunities and higher salary potential.
📌 Tip: Choose a skill that aligns with your career goals to maximize the benefits of the loan.
3. Eligibility Criteria for a Personal Loan for Students
Not all students qualify for a personal loan on their own. Most lenders require a stable income source or a co-applicant (parent/guardian) to process the loan.
✅ Eligibility Requirements:
Age: 18 - 60 years
Co-Applicant Requirement: Most students need a co-borrower (e.g., parent or guardian)
Employment Status: Salaried/self-employed or dependent on a co-borrower
Minimum Income Requirement: ₹15,000 - ₹25,000 per month (for co-borrower)
Credit Score: 700+ for better interest rates
📌 Tip: If you don’t have a regular income, apply for the loan with a parent or guardian as a co-applicant.
4. How to Apply for a Personal Loan for Skill Development?
If you decide to finance your skill development program with a personal loan, follow these steps:
A. Check Your Loan Eligibility
Ensure you or your co-applicant have a CIBIL score above 700.
Review lender eligibility criteria before applying.
B. Compare Loan Offers from Different Lenders
Look for banks, NBFCs, and digital lenders offering low interest rates.
Compare loan tenures, processing fees, and EMI options.
C. Gather Required Documents
Identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN card, or passport)
Address proof (utility bill, rental agreement, or passport)
Income proof (salary slips, bank statements, or ITR for self-employed co-applicant)
Admission proof (course enrollment letter or fee structure from the institute)
D. Submit the Loan Application and Await Approval
Apply online or visit a lender’s branch.
Once approved, receive the funds within 24-48 hours.
📌 Tip: Use a personal loan EMI calculator to plan repayments before borrowing.
5. How to Repay a Personal Loan Efficiently?
Managing loan repayment efficiently helps avoid financial stress.
✅ Best Loan Repayment Strategies: ✔ Choose a Suitable EMI Plan: Opt for affordable EMI installments. ✔ Use Side Income for Prepayments: Freelancing or part-time jobs can help clear the loan faster. ✔ Set Up Auto-Debit for Payments: Avoid late fees by automating EMIs. ✔ Refinance if Interest Rates Drop: Consider a balance transfer to another lender if rates reduce. ✔ Make Partial Prepayments When Possible: Reducing the principal amount lowers interest costs.
📌 Tip: If your financial situation improves, consider prepaying the loan early to save on interest.
6. Alternative Ways to Finance Skill Development
Instead of a personal loan, consider these alternative funding options:
✅ Education Loans: If your course qualifies, opt for a dedicated education loan with lower interest rates. ✅ Scholarships and Grants: Many institutes offer merit-based financial aid. ✅ Employer Sponsorship: Some companies reimburse fees for skill-based programs. ✅ Credit Card EMI Options: Convert course fees into zero-cost EMIs. ✅ Government Skill Development Schemes: Check if your course is eligible for programs like Skill India Mission. ✅ Savings and Family Support: Avoid debt by using personal savings or parental support.
📌 Tip: Always compare financing options before taking a personal loan to minimize costs.
7. Final Thoughts: Should Students Take a Personal Loan for Skill Development?
A personal loan can be a great option for students looking to upgrade their skills and improve career opportunities. However, it is essential to borrow responsibly, keeping in mind the repayment obligation and future earning potential.
🚀 Best Practices Before Taking a Personal Loan for Skill Development: ✔ Assess career benefits before borrowing. ✔ Compare loan interest rates and EMI plans. ✔ Consider a co-applicant for better loan approval chances. ✔ Check for alternative funding options. ✔ Have a repayment plan in place before applying.
If you’re looking for the best personal loan options for financing skill development courses, visit www.fincrif.com for expert guidance today!

ok, this Kevin Woo guy is the most fantastic chad i've heard of in a while:
The journalist who exposed Lambda School wasn't a journalist by trade. Vincent Woo was a successful entrepreneur best known for CoderPad, a collaborative coding website used extensively in programming job interviews. After he sold CoderPad for millions of dollars, he focused on the public interest, such as housing activism.
Woo's work on CoderPad gave him expert insight into the programming job market, and in 2019, Austen's outrageous hiring numbers set off red flags. Whenever pressed for more details on his outrageous claims, Austen said a full report was coming soon, but six months would pass without any updates.
Woo obtained an investment memo Lambda School sent out to Y Combinator titled, "Human Capital: The Last Unoptimized Asset Class." In it, they disclose, “We’re at roughly 50% placement for cohorts that are 6 months graduated,” contradicting the very front page of their website.
Where did the 86% on their homepage come from? In 2018, Lambda School submitted a single report about 72 graduates to CIRR. CIRR is an organization formed by the boot camp industry following the boot camp crackdown of the 2010s, to cleanup their image. Bootcamps are supposed to submit their hiring stats every six months, in one standard format, to prevent underhanded boot camps from fudging the numbers. In two years, Lambda School had produced nothing beyond that single, small report.
Woo reached out to Sabrina Baez, Lambda School's former Director of Career Readiness. Baez oversaw job placement in those early days, and Austen had reprimanded her for low hiring rates. She told Woo that probably only 50% to 60% of graduates found jobs.
Finally, Woo obtained private communications with investors revealing the quiet deals with hedge funds. This flew in the face of their marketing's, "We don’t get paid until you do," and Austen's now-deleted tweet, “We never, ever get paid upfront for ISAs.”
With all the damning evidence, the story was ready. Most reporters would now email their subjects for comment, but Woo elevated the story to performance art. He asked Austen for a recorded interview, without revealing its nature. Austen, lulled into a false sense of security by tech press puff pieces, agreed. What followed was the most riveting hour of tech journalism I've ever heard.
Austen: "Our goal right now, is that if a student is endorsed, call it graduation, that we place 80% within 120 days."
Woo: "Why did you tell investors 50?"
Austen: "What… I don't know… what communication you're referring to."
The interview went downhill from there, as Austen scrambled to invent excuses.

bonus: check out this dude's hilariously understated linkedin:

(also, the whole article's worth a read. i'd been following the Lambda School saga for a while but there's a bunch of new fuckery here that even i didn't know about. smh)

what are your fav tbosas/thg headcanons?
(may not or may be too delusional), (may not or may be controversial)
🐦‍⬛ Thg🐦‍⬛
🏹Unlike District 1 & 2 that has proper Academies for training for the Hunger Games, all District 4 has is a Bootcamp, though it’s still pretty effective compared to what the inner Districts don’t have.
🏹Finnick and Annie falls in love post the time of her Games. They didn’t know each other before, and Finnick is the first to fall.
🏹Annie is a better swimmer than Finnick (no one come at me with a pitchfork, if you think I’m wrong then I’m wrong, case closed 🏃💨)
🏹The 69th Hunger Games Victor is from District 9, age 15 — the youngest for female participants. Koska crafted her weapon between a prop she found in the arena; a discarded snath and a tusk from a boar that she had attached to the blunt end.
The tusk came from an engineered mutt that’s been slayed by the Career team she was stalking. Its ivory curve was long enough to substitute the likes of a scythe.
Unlike Annie Cresta, Koska is deemed as the  “mad” Victor whose bloodlust awakened after she won.
🏹 Besides Chaff, the only other person who knows Haymitch’s birthday is Effie Trinket. Haymitch couldn’t remember how she knew. He only realizes when she offers him a slice of cake one time with this knowing-look in her eye. It doesn’t count because he was “drunk” when it happened, or so Effie says.
He wasn’t drunk enough not to notice.
🏹 Effie has a nephew that’s working as a Junior Gamemaker. In my head, Junior GMs have Medior Supervisors which are just below Senior GMs. Mediors can also pose as their mentors — a parallel to Tributes and their own Mentors. Supposedly, her nephew should be under Seneca’s supervision (back when he was a Medior Supervisor) because of her close friendship with the Cranes, but he ended up landing under Plutarch, which Effie wasn’t happy (at first.)
🏹 As a Heavensbee, Plutarch got invited to the “Box” once as a kid, the lounge where Gamemakers evaluate, peer, and stare down Tributes. He’s one of the few kids who has been treated as a VIP for being one of the old money inheritors. The first time he sees through the Capitol’s rose tinted glasses was when he’s introduced to their false sense of security (highly delusional-felt, at best, he thinks) for the lack of proper wall or barrier between them and the angry looking Tributes down the training hall.
Plutarch catches sight of one of them, hands angrily gripping the shaft of a spear and straying the meanest look in their — the Gamemakers — direction. In his direction. (He couldn’t remember which District, only that the boy was big and burly, possessed with murderous eyes that were staring right through his soul). The older Gamemakers just resorted to jokes, calling the spot as their Achilles’ heel, and told his kid-self not to worry. The Tributes know that there are consequences if they hurt “one of their own.”
After that encounter, long after the “tribute” died, and years later where he’s a seasoned Gamemaker, he still waits for that spear to sail, wondering whose hands would initiate such a bold move.
He forgets about it for a while until an arrow nearly skewers him in the face, pitching straight to the apple from the stupid, overly cooked pig that temporarily got his attention.
🏹 As a young rebel, there’s a ghost channel that Plutarch often engages with on the radio. His acquaintances are convinced it leads to nothing, simply a waste of resources if they continue to reach out. He has a hunch, and he provokes it occasionally, sending all sorts of codes until the sophisticated ones that he sent has been reciprocated and answered with intellectual care, albeit with a tinge of annoyance.
On the other end, an irritable, young Alma Coin has taken it upon herself to establish some sort of connection with the persistent Capitol rebel, eventually becoming District 13’s first reluctant ambassador before climbing the ranks all the way to Presidency in the future.
🎶🐦‍ TBoSaS 🐍
I have some thoughts for the prequel too, though not as detailed from the main trilogy. So I’ll keep it short.  I can only share some vague points; like old Lucy Gray winding up in District 13.
She doesn’t stay for long, preferring to be nomadic and drops occasional visits from time to time, singing for the people and teaching them songs to sing, until one day where she started to have beef with a 12 year old Alma Coin, ferociously locked in a heated debate about morality and human nature.
And the second one is Snow just being a complete pie addict; topping the dessert with countless whipped creams and some cherries, or just dunking a plain homemade ice cream that Ma Plinth made from scratch. (This one is inspired by a drawing from the discord server I’m in for Hunger Games Writers; Unfortunately, I am not familiar with their Tumblr but would love to tag them for the idea)

Not surprisingly there is a great deal of ~discourse~ about what those of us who care about Palestine should do in the 2024 election. I am particularly moved to respond to an episode of the Know Your Enemy podcast on this subject, in which the host Sam Adler-Bell discussed the matter with three leading political thinkers and activists of our generation: Astra Taylor, Olúfẹ́mi Táíwò, and Malcolm Harris, all of whose work I greatly admire.
Nonetheless I found the conversation exasperating, because it seemed to take as its starting point the dichotomy between principle, which would entail voting against Harris/Walz in solidarity with Palestine, versus strategic expediency or hard-headed realism, would lead one to vote for them as a measure against the greater threat of a Trump victory, then continuing to agitate on behalf of Palestine and other causes toward the presumably-friendlier audience of a Democratic presidential administration. That was highlighted by Malcolm’s advocacy for disruptive direct action against the national security state and supply chain as a supposed alternative to voting, which Sam eagerly seized on as a foil because it enabled him to juxtapose that supposedly more radical position with his own pragmatism, and in response to which he could graciously state that we need both.
I don’t consider voting for the Democratic presidential ticket to be strategically sound or expedient. If you saw someone trying to convince a dejected, broke gambler to take out another loan and go back into the casino because it was his moral obligation, you wouldn’t consider that person to be giving strategically sound advice—you would hold them in contempt. If you saw a financial advisor telling someone behind on their rent to take out another payday loan because they have a moral obligation to their landlord, you might think that could be the best of a very bad set of options, but you would be very suspicious of the moral claim. If you heard a career counselor telling someone whose career isn’t going the way they wanted to take out a student loan to attend a coding bootcamp, you would rightly wonder whether the career counselor was being paid by the coding bootcamp to take advantage of someone in a vulnerable position. All of these are better analogies for the present situation vis a vis the 2024 election, because the entity whose aims voting serves, the Democratic Party, is a malevolent one that exists to exploit its voting base on behalf of its plutocratic constituency and needs our votes to continue to be able to do so. It doesn’t care how morally anguished we are, only that it gets what it needs to keep the grift going. The idea that we should serve up to our oppressor what it needs to keep oppressing us is repulsive, and that’s before we even get to Palestine.

chapter summary: JARVIS calls for aid. Sam answers.
Read on Ao3 or under the cut!
chapter warnings: vomiting, panic attack
There are several prerogatives in the foundation of JARVIS’ code. Etched in carefully by Master Stark, set in stone. Prerogatives that cannot be overridden, no matter the circumstances.
He cannot allow harm to come to the residents of the Tower, through either action or inaction. Further, he must obey orders from the Tower residents, unless those orders induce harm.
JARVIS has been requested not to call Captain Rogers, and he must respect that request. But Bucky is clearly in distress – heart rate 120 and rising – and he is no longer responding to JARVIS. So he calls - according to his calculations - the next best thing.
“Staff Sergeant Wilson, you are urgently needed in Bucky's quarters.”
Sam startles awake, leaping out of bed with a soldier’s urgency. “What’s the situation?” He asks, pulling on a shirt and stumbling into a pair of sweatpants. “Do I need my med kit?”
“Bucky seems to be experiencing severe emotional distress, but is not in any physical danger,” JARVIS replies calmly.
JARVIS can hear Sam swear something intelligible under his breath. “If he’s experiencing emotional distress, why aren’t you calling Steve?” Sam asks, shoving his feet in a pair of sneakers.
“Bucky has specifically requested that Steve not be notified of his distress.”
Okay, weird, Sam thinks. He hesitates, then decides he’s better safe than sorry and grabs his med kit from under his bed. The elevator deposits him one floor down–Bucky’s floor–and the door to Bucky’s quarters opens without Sam lifting a finger. “Thanks, JARVIS,” he murmurs, slipping into the apartment.
Sam’s not sure what he expected upon entering Bucky’s apartment, but it sure wasn’t Bucky sitting frozen on the floor in front of the couch, his eyes glazed over. Trauma manifests differently for everyone, he reminds himself. It makes sense, in a twisted way, that Bucky’s body would pick the “freeze” option out of fight, flight, or freeze. Fighting or fleeing were decidedly not options as the Winter Soldier.
Sam moves slowly across the living room, dropping his med kit by the door, telegraphing his movements and trying to make enough noise that he doesn’t startle Bucky. When he finally makes it to him, he sits cross-legged in front of him, a few feet away so as to not block his exit. “Hey, Bucky, you with me?”
Bucky’s eyes don’t move at all to track his movements, nor do they flick to him when Sam finally speaks. His eyes stay fixed on something in the distance, his face lax but his breathing heavy. A thousand-yard stare.
Sam takes a deep breath and reminds himself that this is what he does all the time – counsel veterans with PTSD. Surely the nuts and bolts remain the same, even if said veteran has been a prisoner of war for seventy years while being molded into the perfect assassin. Sure. There’s no conceivable way this goes sideways.
“Your name is Bucky. It’s Tuesday, 3:06am. You’re in your apartment in Avengers Tower. My name is Sam Wilson. We do person-bootcamp together.” Sam thinks he sees Bucky’s lip twitch a little bit at his joke. “JARVIS called me to come help you – can you tell me where you are?”
Bucky gives the slightest shake of his head. Well, progress either way. Sam repeats his grounding sentences for a few more minutes, watching as the tension begins to settle in Bucky’s frame, his eyes coming into focus. “Let’s try again – can you tell me where you are?”
“Tower,” Bucky rasps, breathing purposefully in through his nose and out through his mouth.
“That’s good,” Sam breathes with him. “Can you tell me who I am?”
“Sam.”
“And who are you?”
“I – I’m Sergeant Barnes.” Bucky says the words like it pains him to hear them out loud.
Okay, technically correct, but Sam knows for certain now that Bucky’s remembering something, because they’ve all been very careful to keep from calling Bucky by his full name or by his rank to not forcefully trigger any memories. Looks like Bucky’s brain is healing itself, then.
“How do you know that you’re Sergeant Barnes?” Sam asks gently, thinking he’ll have remembered something from the war, but –
“Because I remember all of them. My missions,” Bucky gulps, and his head ticks to the side like he's fighting to keep still. “I remember killing Stark.”
Sam's stomach flips and he opens his mouth to call out to check on Tony, but JARVIS beats him to it. “I believe Bucky is referring to the deaths of Howard and Maria Stark. Sir is unharmed in his lab.”
Of course. Sam remembers seeing the mission report in the files. Much of it had been redacted, but one thing was clear: The Winter Soldier had assassinated the Starks. If there was a reason why, it had been redacted too. Howard was the main intelligence behind SHIELD's technology, and maybe – maybe he'd figured out that SHIELD was compromised even then, or maybe…he'd invented something that made him dangerous.
Sam is snapped back to the present as Bucky curls over to one side and retches. “I'm sorry, I'm so sorry,” the former assassin repeats over and over like a prayer. “I knew him, but I killed him – they made me kill him. He knew me and I still killed him.” Sam reaches out slowly, rubbing Bucky's back in what he hopes is a comforting and grounding gesture, and Bucky alternates between sobbing apologies and gagging.
“Bucky, Bucky – you gotta breathe, man, it's alright. C'mon, breathe with me, you're okay. No one's gonna hurt you, you're safe here.” Sam repeats himself until Bucky stops shaking and pleading. “That's it, there you go. Just breathe.”
It could've been minutes or hours, but when Sam is satisfied that Bucky's stable enough to breathe on his own, he stands, grabbing a glass of water from the kitchen. “Drink,” he sets the glass on the coffee table in front of Bucky. “I'll be right back.”
He cleans up the bile off of the hardwood with a roll of paper towels, then stands, scanning the apartment for something helpful. His eyes land on the fleece blanket thrown over the back of the couch, and he throws it in the dryer for a few minutes. One of his typical grounding tools after a panic attack is to hold an ice cube, or to splash cold water on his face, but he knows Bucky won’t respond well to the cold. He’ll have to put a heating pad on the ever-growing list of things to introduce to Bucky.
When Sam returns with the toasty blanket, the glass of water has been drained, and Bucky's staring into the middle distance again, albeit breathing normally. “Here,” Sam wraps the warmed blanket around Bucky's shoulders before plopping on the floor next to him. Bucky's flesh fingers grip the edges of the blanket, pulling it tighter around him, and he looks to Sam, confusion clear on his face.
“Gift,” he says tremulous, “why?”
Sam sighs, spreading his legs out in front of him. He has a feeling they're going to be a while. Not a gift – a coping mechanism. A tool. It's…necessary. Not earned. Does it help?”
Bucky nods, burrowing deeper into the fabric by way of answer.
“Has Rebecca told you about flashbacks? Or panic attacks?” Bucky shakes his head. “Well, I think what happened was you had a flashback – you remembered something. Were you asleep or awake?”
“Asleep,” comes the muffled reply.
“Well, that makes sense. Our brains process a lot of information when we sleep. So, you had a nightmare, and woke up. I'm guessing that's when JARVIS called me?” Another nod. “Can you tell me why you asked him not to call Steve?”
“He can't know,” Bucky says seriously, locking Sam in place with a desperate stare. “I killed his friend, my friend. He'll hate me, and then – then I'll have to leave. Please, please don't tell him, don't make me leave, I can be good –”
“Hey, hey,” Sam gentles Bucky's growing panic with a hand to his shoulder, firm pressure grounding him in space and time. “We know already, okay? We got your files from the Vault, and everyone either read them or got briefed on them. Trust me,” Sam emphasizes each word. “Steve doesn't hate you. Neither does Tony. No one is going to make you leave. Okay?” Bucky gives a tiny nod. “We know it wasn't your fault. The Chair, the trigger words – everything. You didn't sign up for that, Bucky, we know that.”
Finally, finally, some semblance of calm washes over Bucky's face and he sits back, gripping the blanket firmly again. “Do you want to try and go back to sleep?” Sam asks, and Bucky shakes his head emphatically no. “Alright, well I'm gonna get us some more water, and we can just hang out.”
Sam really doesn't want to leave Bucky unattended so soon after such a potent panic attack, so he grabs some more water and shakes, and then asks JARVIS to turn on the latest season of Planet Earth. They sit on the floor together, Bucky's eyes locked on the television screen as the sun slowly begins to rise.
“I need a pen,” Bucky says after three hours of silence, in the middle of an episode about cuttlefish. “And paper.”
“What for?” Sam’s already standing, looking around for Bucky’s journal and pen. Maybe Rebecca has told him to record his dreams and memories. He finds the journal on the kitchen table, passing it to Bucky, who turns to a new page. “Gotta write down the dream?”
“No,” Bucky starts writing furiously before looking up at Sam with a determined gleam in his eye. “I remember everything they did to me. Where they did it. Who did it.” He swallows, and points to what he’s scribbling on the page. Sam leans in to look and – he’s writing names. Locations. Even GPS coordinates. “We can burn HYDRA to the ground.”
Sam smirks. “Damn right.”

My Journey to Becoming a Frontend Developer
In today’s fast paced digital world, frontend development has become the cornerstone of delivering exceptional user experiences. From seamless web app navigation to visually stunning interfaces, a frontend developer brings ideas to life.
Why I Want to Be a Frontend Developer and How HNG Will Help Me Achieve My Goals
My journey to becoming a frontend developer is fueled by a passion for creativity, problem solving, and the desire to create applications that users love. Joining HNG internship bootcamp as a frontend developer is the perfect opportunity to sharpen my skills and gain hands on experience while contributing to real world applications.
My Motivation for Becoming a Frontend Developer
Ever since I first interacted with web technologies, I’ve been fascinated by the magic of turning code into functional and beautiful interfaces. It’s amazing how a few lines of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can create immersive websites and applications that millions of people rely on daily.
Another reason I gravitate toward frontend development is its user centric nature. I love the idea of creating intuitive and visually appealing designs that make people’s lives easier. I’m driven by the opportunity to make technology accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
How HNG Will Help Me Grow in the Field
The HNG internship bootcamp is a game changer for aspiring developers like me. One of the most significant challenges in the tech world is bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real world application. HNG provides the perfect platform to tackle this by immersing participants in a fast paced, project driven environment.
Here’s how I believe HNG will accelerate my growth:
Hands On Experience: HNG’s focus on building real life applications aligns perfectly with my goal to learn by doing. By collaborating with a team to tackle real world challenges, I will develop technical skills that can’t be learned in isolation.
Mentorship and Guidance: HNG’s experienced mentors will provide valuable insights and feedback, helping me refine my coding skills, improve my design thinking, and understand industry best practices.
Exposure to Modern Tools and Frameworks: The bootcamp emphasizes modern frontend technologies. This aligns with my goal of mastering the tools that drive innovation in the industry.
Networking Opportunities: Being part of a vibrant community of like minded developers and industry experts at HNG will expand my professional network and open doors for future opportunities.
My Goals for the Internship and How I Plan to Achieve Them
During my time at HNG, my primary goal is to become a finalist in the frontend track and I plan to achieve this through other key goals such as:
Master Frontend Fundamentals: I aim to strengthen my knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and popular libraries like React. I plan to achieve this by actively participating in all coding sessions and tasks, seeking feedback, and consistently practicing.
Contribute to Real World Projects: One of my key goals is to contribute meaningfully to the applications we build at HNG. By collaborating with team mates, meeting deadlines, and embracing challenges, I hope to add value to every project as I move up the ladder.
Enhance Problem Solving Skills: Frontend development often involves debugging and optimizing code. I will approach every challenge as an opportunity to learn and improve my critical thinking.
Develop a Strong Portfolio: By the end of the internship, I want to have a portfolio showcasing my contributions to real world applications, demonstrating my skills to potential employers that require the service of an experienced JavaScript and React developer.
Conclusion
Becoming a frontend developer is not just a career choice for me, it’s a passion that aligns with my creative and technical interests. The HNG internship bootcamp provides a unique opportunity to accelerate my growth, gain hands on experience, and prepare for the dynamic world of frontend development. With a clear vision of my goals and a commitment to learning, I’m excited to embark on this journey and make the most of this incredible opportunity at HNG.

When a leaky bathroom sink turns into a minor flood, Harry has to act fast. So, he thinks of the closest (and most unlikely) way to find home repair help… Grindr. The last thing he expects from this quick fix is to find anything long term.
Or... A Grindr AU inspired by this very real DM exchange as seen in this tumblr post.

Or… The one where Louis quits smoking and tries to get healthy, and Harry is the fitness instructor who helps him achieve those goals while making him sweat in and out of the gym. In which Harry and Louis still meet at bootcamp, just not the one you’re thinking of.
Featuring Lottie as the supportive sister who drags her brother to bootcamp class, Louis as the grumpy (and very recently) ex-smoker, and Harry as the instructor with exhausting amounts of enthusiasm and one obnoxious pair of yellow trainers.
♾️ Forget About the World Outside, Because It's Just Me and You Tonight
Fic Post
Explicit | 4K | Larry | Post-Brit Awards Smut
Harry’s swept the Brits, bringing home four awards. He couldn’t be prouder and can’t wait to share his excitement with his favorite person, who he knows is waiting for him in the limo to take him home. He can’t help it if his mind starts to wander while the press snaps photos of him with his statuettes. All he can think about is the warm welcome he knows he’s bound to receive.
But first, Harry will have some repenting to do for a particular comment he made to the world about one, Stanley Tucci.
Or... The one where Louis didn’t care much for Harry’s acceptance speech for the Album of the Year award and needs to remind him that it’s Louis (not some bald American twat) who Harry loves more than anyone else in the world.
♾️ Let Your Heart Be Light
Fic Post
Teen+ | 77K| Larry + Ziam + Nashe | Enemies to Lovers | Advent Fic | Christmas Fluff | Slow Burn

Will Harry be just the thing Louis needs to help him get his sparkle back?

Fic Post
Teen+ | 14K | Larry | Strangers to Lovers | Pirate AU | Fisherman Louis | Fluff/Angst/Hurt/Comfort
The entire village warned him not to go. Still, the peculiar boy from Eroda set sail on an odd-numbered day and, without knowing it, headed straight into the Our Flag Means Death universe. While being held captive aboard the pirate ship Revenge, the boy meets a fisherman named Louis.
Tasked by the captain to teach the reluctant boy to fish, Louis struggles to hide his frustration and hold his tongue. As difficult as it was to deal with this clumsy stranger, the skilled fisherman had worse assignments and more unpleasant partners, but none of them with a smile as bright as this peculiar boy had. A moment of unexpected distress catches them off guard, and both soon find out it’s much easier to catch feelings than fish.
Or, Where the "Adore You" music video ends and the Our Flag Means Death canon begins.

♾️ I Was Born like This, Don't Even Gotta Try
Fic Post
Explicit | 2K | Larry | 2015 Era | Canon Reimagined | Fluff & Smut
A Gucci suit to get on your knees for… Louis and Harry return home after a long day of promo events and cocktail parties. They’re both exhausted, but that doesn’t stop Louis from keeping a promise he made to Harry in the limo earlier that night.
A certain geometric Gucci suit might have played a part in helping Louis’ keep that promise.
♾️ A Simple Twisted Fate
Fic Post
Explicit | 18K | Larry | Strangers to Lovers | Tattoo Artist Louis | Rock Star Harry | Kink Exploration
Global rock star Harry Styles has some time to kill between tour dates and stumbles into a Doncaster tattoo shop with a desire for some new ink. He has a few other desires as well, but those he must keep to himself.
Louis Tomlinson, owner of Twisted Fate Tattoos, has seen enough of the tabloids and thinks he knows everything there is to know about this world-famous rock star, and he’s not impressed.
Harry may be one of the world's biggest stars known for a lavish lifestyle, crazy parties and entourages of women wherever he goes, but he’s more than just what his image and wild reputation suggests.
Things take an interesting turn when Louis finds out he’s been helping satisfy Harry’s voracious pain kink. Bet he'd love to know that not only is Louis a gifted tattoo artist, but an experienced Dom as well. Perhaps they both have something to learn from each other, if only Louis would give Harry a chance. Maybe their paths crossing was more than just a twist of fate, but the universe’s plan all along.

Written for @subharryficfest
♾️ Climbing the Swells
Fic Post
Explicit | 6K | Larry | Enemies to Lovers | Surfer AU | Smut
One surfer out of his depth amongst some territorial locals makes a bold move and a very unwelcome entrance. After things go wrong, another surfer reluctantly takes mercy on him, offering some first-aid and unexpected hospitality aboard his Airstream. A couple dimples and a few wayward curls go a long way to soften one surly local, and what started out as a rough morning becomes a very sunny spot to the day.
Or… The one where a clumsy Harry and a stubborn Louis reconcile their grievances on the beach, with a heartfelt apology from Louis on his knees without saying a word.
🏖️ Written for @hlsummerfest2021
♾️ I Know You Rider (Gonna Miss Me when I’m Gone)
Fic Post
Teen+ | 9K | Larry | Strangers to Lovers | 1990s AU | Single-Rider Line AU
Waiting in line at the Big Dipper, one angsty skater punk gets paired with a chilled out hippy boy, by way of a single-rider line. Together, they ride one of Cypress Gardens’ oldest wooden roller coasters. Will this easy-going stranger in tie-dye make Louis forget his fear of heights, or turn their rickety ramble into a nightmare on steel wheels? Either way, it will be a ride Louis won’t soon forget.
Or… The one where Louis hates hippies and roller coasters and Harry tries to fix that with lots of fun facts, terrible puns and perhaps one very life-changing moment in a dark tunnel.
🏖️ Written for @hlsummerfest2021
🍋 Part 1 of Arcades & Lemonade. Part 2 coming soon-ish!
♾️ Freedom Always Comes with a Price
Fic Post
Explicit | 101K | Larry | Lovers to Friends to Lovers | Memory Loss | Non-Linear Narrative | Angst, Fluff & Smut
A shared dream brings them together onto the X-factor stage, but one decision changes Harry and Louis’ lives overnight. Thrust into a world of instant stardom, they're forced to live a lie to sustain their dreams, but years of living in the shadows and under strict management take its toll.
With the band's impending hiatus, there’s no better time for change, so they think.
Desperate for a solution, they turn to an unlikely source with a radical plan. An unfortunate accident sets everything in motion, but not how they intended, leaving Louis’ memories altered, Harry broken-hearted and full of regret.
Can Harry figure out a way to fix everything? Will he even want to once he sees how Louis moved on after the hiatus? Will Louis ever find out the truth of their past, and can he forgive Harry after all this time?
In the end, two friends find out that memories are elusive, trust is everything and love is the only antidote.

Explicit | 27K | Larry | 5+1 Things | Roommates to Lovers | Road Trips | Mutual Pining | Angst and Smut
Louis moves in with his friend Harry and soon thoughts of his new flatmate are anything but innocent. When it comes to acting on those urges while he’s alone, Louis has no control, and it doesn’t take long for his primal impulses to turn into deep, urgent longing the more time they spend together.
An unexpected family event takes Harry home for the weekend. Will it be the catalyst that finally brings them together, or what tears them apart when Louis overhears what Harry reveals to his mother about his true feelings?
Or... The Five times Louis almost gets caught during a salacious moment of self-care and the one time he did... a roommates-to-lovers fic with lots of feels.

Hello! I really like you're blog! You're really funny and I really enjoyed your anti-obito post. I never really got why people liked him.
I know you're going to school for coding and it's something I've been thinking of getting into. Do you have any recommendations on where a total newbie should start?
LMAOOOOO A fellow obito hater...... for a bit of clarity currently im majoring in computer engineering so my program is like 50% computer science and 50% electrical engineering. personally i took ap computer science principles/a in high school which was more or less my formal introduction to coding, but i also participated in a few random miscellaneous extracurricular local computer science for girls programs before then too.
my education situation was kind of deeply unorthodox so i cant really speak too much for public high schools if thats your age group but i would definitely start looking into any local stem outreach programs in your area and if applicable ask your counselor/advisor (or librarians) about any resources they know about, as that would definitely be your best bet. ultimately for somebody like me this sort of thing needs to be like assigned classwork or a bootcamp of some sort because i need deadlines to get anything done, but if youre more self driven some people on reddit were recommending this free course.
theres about a million different branches to programming and the easiest way to narrow down what you actually want to do is really just to start trying random crap to see what you like and what you dont. best of luck!!!!

This whole civil war on reading vs not reading comics is baffling to me. Like honestly this whole arguement is stupid.
Full disclosure before people come after me: I am a comic reader! I love reading comics (although I havent been able to read nearly as many as I would like)
Anyway yeah my whole 2 cents on this.
On one hand, I get why avid comic readers are annoyed. You're favorite character being what you perceive as wildly misinterpreted and being unable to find the content you want is annoying. But also it's so easy to just... click off? Like no one is forcing you to read it, just go find a different work instead of complaing to the author or whatever.
Also, comic characters have been written and rewritten by so many people and have had so many changes to their storylines and personality that a lot of stuff being argued as "not canon" very likely could have been at some point! And that's not even talking about other media like shows and movies.
The first example that comes to mind is Superboy (Conner "Kon" Kent). Comic Kon and Young Justice Cartoon Kon are drastically different in both personality and appearance. Comic Kon is the most bisexual coded person I've ever seen and Cartoon Kon is a grumpy asshole who looks like he stepped straight out of bootcamp. But guess what? Regardless of which one you like most both are canon in DC!
As far as I'm concerned, comic timelines and characters are a mess with or without other media types and we should be allowed to pick and choose whatever traits we want from it. Do I want Kon to have bisexual hair? Yes! Am I ignoring that Batman beats his kids in some runs? Also yes!
And because I saw a few complaints like these once before I'm going to address them.
"Character A can't be into this. It only happened like 1 time in the comics!"
Yeah but it happened. If people want to take that little hint of a trait and expand on it then power to them!
"Character A never actually had this role or did this so stop writing them like that!"
It's called a headcanon or an AU. This may be surprising to you, but both of these are common in fandom spaces. If that headcanon or AU is popular it's because people obviously like it. That person may not be you, and that's fine too! Just let them have their fun and leave to read something else.
And I'm not claiming to be innocent in all this btw! Lord knows I get loud and angry about many MCU fans' interpretation of Jake Lockley from Moon Knight. That being said, the reason I'm loud and angry isn't just "oh they made him less friendly and changed some personality traits". Its the fact that they interpret him as an "evil" alter which perpetuates hateful stereotypes about a very real and very stigmatized disorder with very little decent representation. The whole "Jake is an evil bloodthirsty alter" spreads those fearmongering ideas and has the potential to harm actual systems in the long run whether it's intended to or not. Disclaimer: I am not a system, but I do try my best to listen to what they have to say. By all means listen to their opinions on the situation over mine.
Even so, I don't go and yell directly at those creators. I click off. I don't have to read or look at their stuff if I don't want to.
Another complaint from comic readers I see a lot is "oh but it's so easy for them to just pick up a comic and read it! They are just being lazy/stubborn/etc." And honestly...
It's really not!
It took me YEARS to start reading comics because it was so overwhelming and I had no one to help me. Keeping track of all the comic runs is hard enough let alone actually finding and reading them. Comics are simply not well organized and it's hard to find a part to jump into when so many of them rely on prior knowledge.
"Well ask somebody who works at a comic bookstore!"
I did. He had no answers for me and looked like he would rather be talking to literally anyone else instead of a clueless 15 year old girl. Stepping into spaces like that can be intimidating in itself for a variety of reasons, let alone trying to ask for help. Online it's not always much better. So many people won't give an honest recommendation and others won't be specific enough. Many comic runs have similar titles, and honestly it's best if you just know the name of the writer.
Trying to break into comics is just genuinely difficult for a lot of people depending on their situations whether it be enviornmental, financial, or mental.
Also you can't just force someone to read the comics! If they don't want to and just want to watch the shows or absorb fanon content then that's their preference! You don't have to interact with it! Am I saying that no one should read comics? No! But I am saying that not everyone has the same accessibility and the way some comic readers treat these people isn't doing favors. Attacking them over stuff and getting annoyed at them isn't going to encourage them to pick up a comic and read it but rather push them away from something really fun.
Okay now that's out of the way, time for me to turn my sights on the "not reading" camp.
You can't just attack people for suggesting canonical content under your prompts. Unless they are being a dick about it. Then you can go ham. But if someone is coming in like "hey btw A is a thing that happens canonically and it might be fun to do!" then there is no reason for you to act like they just ate your baby!
It is also not completely unreasonable for someone to simply suggest that you try out a comic or two (provided that they are being polite and are actually willing to help you with clear reccomendations). There is no reason for you to get pissy at them, just as it is not a requirement for you to take up their advice. If you don't want to read it or can't currently that's fine, but just know that you have the potential to be introduced to something you really enjoy and that consuming canon content will more than likely help you with your writing!
