Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on June 25, Ubisoft announced.

Game Review: Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition (Xbox Series X)

The original game and all its quirks make this 20th Anniversary Edition a worthy addition to anyone’s gaming catalogue. Yes, it is dated and its flaws are still as prominent as ever, but the level of charm, the fun it offers, the excitement it brings, still outweighs any and all negatives. So, getting to play it again, but with some new stuff (minor as most of it is) is welcome.

Originally released in 2003, Beyond Good & Evil’s exciting story, strong characters, clever mix of gameplay, and excellent soundtrack captured the imagination of many gamers upon release, this one included. My first experience coming via the GameCube and I still consider it one of the best games released on that platform. I, like many others have eagerly awaited the long-awaited sequel/prequel…

me, looking at an indie Nintendo Switch game: Oh this looks like a lot of fun and something I would really enjoy....but I still have other games I haven't even started yet, and $20 is kinda......... mmmmaybe I'll wait until it goes on sale, or I finish a project so I can justify getting it.

Anyway this game is such a treasure, I can't wait to revisit it. Is Ancel still working on that insanely ambitious sequel? Have video game graphics reached whatever ideal he was seeking? (and can it then be blasphemously crunched down so I can play it on a Nintendo system?) Ah, maybe in another twenty years it'll finally be released.

Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition (2024, Nintendo Switch)

I'll be starting off with the oldest game I've yet played on stream, the 1980 Namco arcade release, and perhaps a quintessential representative example of a video game, Pac-Man!

Next, I'll be playing Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch, an updated re-release of a title I first played on Nintendo GameCube back in 2003!

Even though this is a 20 year old game, even at the time of its release, its narrative presentation and gameplay principles were at least a decade ahead of what many AAA games at the time treated as standard.

I consider this the first truly modern action game I've ever featured on my stream, and this is a title I've been scheming ways to present to you since 2020.

Don't let the colorful graphics and stylized character designs fool you - this is NO kids game!
