Black Music Artists Changing The Game For The Community
Tumblr media
You often hear about popular music artists making donations or doing charity work, but some take it above and beyond. There are Black music artists who are not only leaving their mark on the industry but their communities, as well. Some are on the grounds of their hometown supporting programs and initiatives, while others are giving a voice to those leading the charge. No matter what they're doing, they're using their platform to make a better world for their Black brothers and sisters.
Here are some Black music artists who are flexing their influence to give back to their community.
Tumblr media
Kendrick Lamar
Hip-hop icon Kendrick Lamar is known for capturing the Black community through his music and giving back. The "Alright" rapper has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Compton Unified School District's various music, sports, and after-school programs to keep kids off the streets. He also pledged $50,000 to his high school, as well, and is a regular face in his hometown. His impact on Compton is so significant, that he was awarded a key to the city and named the California State Senate's 35th Generational Icon in 2016.
Tumblr media
Janelle Monáe
The 'I Like That' singer also put together a powerful protest anthem called "Say Her Name," which is a 17-minute long tribute to the Black woman lost to police brutality and racial injustice. It was also a collaboration with the African American Policy Forum. Fifteen music artists and activists were also featured in the song, including Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Zoë Kravitz, and Mj Rodriguez.
Tumblr media
H.E.R.
H.E.R. has given a resounding voice to BLM protestors through her infamous song, "I Can't Breathe," which was released shortly after George Floyd's murder. The "FIght For You" singer told NME her purpose as an artist changed after releasing the anthem.
"At first I didn’t realize activism was part of that purpose but I guess my voice matters,” she says. “I definitely feel a responsibility because I have this platform, but I think we should all speak out against things that we don’t like and things that should change, regardless of where we come from. Hate is hate.”
Now, the Grammy-winning artist wants to focus on expanding proper music education in American schools. H.E.R. is also helping budding female musicians through her "Girls with Guitars" Instagram Live series. The "Best Part" singer recently took home the American Express Impact Award at the 2022 Billboard Women in Music event for using her platform to advocate for women.
Tumblr media
Noname
If it's one thing Noname knows, it's making an impact. The "Montego Bay" rapper's Noname Book Club has been gaining a lot of traction, promoting reading and encouraging support of bookstores owned by people of color. The book club has partnerships with libraries in Oakland, Chicago, and New York City to promote chosen books to readers. Noname is working on getting a physical headquarters for the club with plans to host book drives, meet-ups, free movie screenings, political education classes, food drives, and much more.

Some people are a bit panicking. They like to know if Yana Toboso encounters pressure concerning the upcoming release of the anime. Yana T is very open the last few days. She resumed posting her thoughts today. Particularly going back to the past adaptations of Kuroshitsuji.
When I say, ``I've never had my dignity as a writer violated or my contract violated,'' it's sad to hear people say, ``It's gross to have such an obvious appeal.''
If a work is said to belong to the original author, I wish they wouldn't tell authors who accept changes that they have no love for their work or that they are being dishonest to their readers.
During the first season of Black Butler, the first question was, "Can I let Ciel die in the final episode?" I was surprised, but thought, ``If an anime that is mostly original can end in an interesting way.'' Thankfully, it turned out to be an interesting anime and a sequel was made. Regarding the second season, he requested, ``I would like to see a final episode that is completely different from the first season and the original work.''
For the live-action movie, I heard that ``Ciel will be a woman,'' and although I had no say in the casting, I asked, ``I would appreciate it if there was no romance with the butler.'' It was just a verbal promise, but he kept it. I am still grateful to Mizushima-san, Gouriki-san, and everyone else involved.
There are many things that surprised me, made me angry, made me sad, and made me happy about anime, live action, musicals, and games. But I don't regret any of it, it's all about me. This is not a story about telling or forcing anyone to give a correct or incorrect answer. I told you that you should take a break and not push yourself too hard. ( to herself )
I only met Ayame Goriki (the “Ciel” in the live action ) once after cranking up the engine. She was wearing a chic and lovely black dress, and when I told her, ``It suits you very well.I would be happy if we could use this as an opportunity to get more opportunities to see you in fashionable clothes,'' she happily shook my hand with trembling hands. Please give it to me. It was beautiful.
Hiro Mizushima and the other performers' hands were shaking when they shook hands in greeting. I was at a loss for words when I thought about how these gorgeous and beautiful people were dealing with so much stress and pressure. I am very grateful to have been given this difficult experience.
This is the end of this story.
There were many people who expressed concern after that sad incident (Hinako Ashihara’s death must have shaken the core of this problem among the mangaka community), so I took this opportunity to speak to them. Of course, readers are free to make their own opinions. I am me, you are you. I would be happy if you could enjoy it together with me in the future. [Toboso]
Reading this litany of Yana’s tweets, Ashihara’s suicide made her contemplate of the past and talked to people about it.
Remember that Yana was younger (and probably inexperienced) when they adapted her work into an anime and the pressure was immense. And now that she is an established manga author/artist, popular and well respected, this gave her the opportunity to think back. Especially considering the amount of feedback that she received. I just hope that she’s doing self-care as often as she needs it be.

Do you remember life as it was pre-internet and pre-smartphone? Is it something you are nostalgic for? What aspects of your life still are like the pre-internet days that you anticipate to stay that way (at least for 10 more years)?
Absolutely, because I experienced it. Specifically, the last few years before grasping PCs full-time in community college. Back then, my diaries weren't written with pen and paper. I hit ‘record’ on my tape deck and have it write it all for me. I listen to those cassettes (that I still have and have been all digitized) and they instantly return me to the alternative and hip-hop / rap's golden era; back when we had Biggie and 2Pac. The feelings were different. The style, the vibe, the type of people around me. There was this constant camaraderie because everyone was around you. I always had friends and plenty of moments within reach. Meeting people outside the neighborhood was way more interesting because they were the type mine didn't have.
Each song that I'm listing right now still gives me a very specific moment and feeling experienced by me, for me, and only me. Songs like Da Youngstas' "Hip-Hop Ride" and Stone Temple Pilot’s “Vasoline” when my family and I took the ferry to Mashantucket, listening to Crooklyn Dodgers' eponymous track on my Walkman when I walked home from school, or Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" as a bargaining chip to win the favor of girls from another neighborhood. Notorious B.I.G. & Method Man “The What” and O.C.’s “Time’s Up” were the soundtrack to when I spent a week in Staten Island with my then-hood cousins. Sitting on my friend’s curb while listening to The Doors' "Light My Fire", or hearing Cutmasta D.C.’s “Brooklyn’s In The House” while I was crushing on someone I never met before. I can go on ad infinitum. The music meant so much to me that I started making seasonal mixtapes to revisit those moments anytime I want. Those feels still get to me to this day. I could also say the same for VHS. I literally have hundreds of tapes stored with me. It was a race to record every Philadelphia deathmatch and classic (Seventies and Eighties) game show because us fans feared they’d be lost forever. All of us has some Marion Stokes in us. Some more than others. I still kept hitting ‘record’ while I began record-shopping and found rare titles through backpage catalogs, bought compilations and magazines to discover new artists, and relied on word-of-mouth and mixtape trades amongst friends. This was what music-chasers had before MP3s amplified it all for everyone, including myself.
Even gaming. Going out of your way to the video store and literally borrow or buy and keep physical games - the solid state-era. Fighters were so much fun when you had everyone on the block at your house with no actual fist-fights and crucial shit broken. Or, having a literal crowd of people surrounding you during a one-on-one at Street Fighter found at every pizzeria, stationery, or laundromat. Human interaction was king back then. It was somewhat of a less toxic aura of life before smartphones, social media, or downloading took the mystique out of everything we experience now and poisoned us with repetition re-enforcement.
Now? We’re all used to it. It’s routine for everyone. The same ubiquitous being shoves all the world’s ills and hard pills to swallow down your throat while giving you an equal amount of solace, wisdom, and outreach in return. We traded in all the mystique of discovering things we once never knew of for the convenience of finding and getting what we want, when we want - with quick decisions to boot. We’ve taken it for granted. I still do everything I’ve done timelines ago, albeit differently now. I’ve always stayed in touch with the past while always moving forward and grasping the moments ahead.
Things changed when my uncle gifted my dad a Dell desktop and monitor. He loved free music. We were surprised that we could get anything we wanted instantly. We never looked back since. My music knowledge exponentially exploded through the roof thanks to the digital tide. Still does. I’ve always appreciated the classic synthpop, industrial, golden-era hip-hop / rap, alternative, hardcore, and electronic era while staying in touch with sampling, and discovering d.i.y., synthwave, noise, d-beat, indie, metalcore, long-lost African tapes, and deafening shoegaze over the last few years.
Discoveries of the last calendar decade are part of my current experiences. I can hear Crystal Castle’s “Pap Smear” in my head every time I drive to the radio station in cold Winter nights. The sounds of Suicide’s “Cheree” marked the time I re-connected with a former potential. L.I.E.S. Music For Shut-Ins, Dum Dum Girls’ “Bhang Bhang”, and Tantor’s “Niedernwöhren” stamped my time in Lindenhurst, Hauppage, and Ronkonkoma respectively. Bereket Mengistaab’s “Lebay”, Antwon’s “Helicopter”, and Gong Gong Gong’s “Siren” defined all the walks to the neighborhood veteran’s park. Black Marble’s “A Great Design” forever reminds me of that sunny June day in Greenpoint waiting in line to see Cold Cave. Both pandemic shut-ins and a day out with a mutual / potential would meet at Jade Imagine’s “Remote Control” and Eddie Russ’ “Zaius”. Yard Act’s “Dark Days” for the pinball arcade revival and the drive out to Williamsburg’s Rough Trade. And how can I forget Blonde Redhead’s “Melody Experiment” to mark a triple crown September weekend of family reunions in Staten Island, Cold Waves XI, and a drop-dead birthday gift from one of my all-time favorites?
I still spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars carefree on vinyl, cassettes, and discs while acquiring and salvaging everything digitally. No more magazines, replaced with tons of music sites and outlets. (Again, downloading and the endless-open of accessing sounds made it too easy.). You used to buy blind at the record store and be totally walloped at something you never imagined before. Now, you’ll find it everywhere online with no effort. Have all the free cards, spins, and rolls you want. I remember making my first online order ages ago, and smelled the production those fresh packages of vinyl records and discs in the mail. I’ll still purchase rare musicks online that I won’t find in stores.
Backseat rides with Walkmans were replaced with iPods and now iPhones on train lines to New York City; allowing me to carry flat, faceless MP3s rather than physical art, liner notes, thank-yous, and that sugary smell of plastic, booklets, and J-cards. It all still produces new memories and visions to this day. The mixtapes were replaced by CD-R’s for a few years before creating simple personal playlists I still make to this day.
Former childhood memories of opening / closing credits and themes, station i.d.’s, production credits, commercials, and chyrons are re-captured again with a quick rip. Most of the essential shows of my wasted youth becamse a few keywords away. Emulation leaves the door open to an era when it was simpler, more charming, and fun. Not today with the endless parade of stoic first-person shooters devoid of personality and micro-transactions nickel-and-dime you while providing misogyny / misandry, endless shit-talking, swatting, and fault-finding in everyone - all enjoyed by your lonesome online.
So many people assumed that vinyl records, cassettes, and video / pinball arcades fell into the wayside because of “better” technology. They surged back because we still appreciate and want the real thing. We’ve done a great job carrying everything over digitally and still kept it all.
Oh, I almost forgot. About people:
We’ve been facing technology as a double-edge sword bringing out the best and worst out of all of us, pushing out everything for the whole world to see. Remember what I mentioned earlier about one hand poisoning you while the other cures?
It’s amplified world ills that always existed but made more apparent: rigged elections, the media selling war and dictatorships, disinformation, online gambling, political division, trauma and desensitization of violence and sex, losing privacy - all in an accelerated rate. We worried more about it now, now more than ever.
We never stressed over constant triggers, reminders, fear of missing out, or seeing your life in stasis as friends, families, rivals, and enemies move on (as a form of unintentional competition) like we do now. We shelve daylight and beautiful days for the hypnotism of constant mind-numbing updates, communication, and lethargy. Or, how young girls are constantly told they’re not good enough, learn about the double-standard, be gaslighted, or put themselves out there all-or-nothing to be noticed.
Dating was way easier back then because we didn’t have the bad ideas we have now. Dating sites created a power to pick and choose easily who our next potential or interest is; for winners to treat people like a commodity, dispose of, and ghost them. A comedy of errors for the losers starring broken-down self-esteem and self-confidence, paranoia, blatant intentions, loneliness, and game-playing more apparent. All the hands played are face up and for all to see. Draw, play, and discard at will.
It used to be that you wouldn’t know or believe what former classmates, co-workers, significants, or associates were up to through hearsay. Now it’s all within reach. Imagine being floored when you see your exes- have families, kids, or criminal records. Feel the sting when former #1’s smile with their new partners, or be totally surprised when others lives didn’t turn out as expected. Careers, money, marriage, relationships, adventures, accomplishments, births, deaths, suicides. Some have made you feel vindicated, at level with your peers, heartbroken, or missing out while everyone moves forward.
We throw rocks at people or hurt feelings from a distance, run, and get away with it. We pick and choose who lives and careers we can ruin in an instant, who to ridicule, or define someone with a ten-second meme for the rest of their lives. Or the many new ways people in general can be nasty towards each other. There’s so much bitterness, one-upsmanship, snarkiness, and manufactured drama because we allowed (social) media to run our minds for us. No middle-ground. Pick a side and vilify anyone who disagrees with you because we’re always right, even when we’re wrong. Demonize those who do the same things you do as well. It’s made us into miserable troublesome animals.
But…
Life for me has been so different since the divide that I’ve experienced quite a few events I normally wouldn’t. I started using this hellsite years ago to create an online journalism portfolio - which later on became a place for design, writing, and photography. It’s allowed me to document my time in radio (WUSB) and also show everyone how diverse, original, and open I am about myself and music. I love the gratification when someone reaches out to me about a favorite artist or record, and I love sharing some rare or obscure things only I know about that no one else does. It’s made what I do a unique experience.
I’ve met mutuals that I’d never even thought I’d ever meet (including two from my neighborhood!). There’s specific mutuals who untapped my potential, who I’d do wonderful things for that I wouldn’t for anyone else. These are the same people who I learned to trust and allowed me to be open with, minus the hair-trigger persecution, judgment, and ridicule from the rest. I keep my lines open for my closest ones trapped in destructive addiction, anxiety, bi-polarity, and isolation.
I’ve taken social and world events more seriously. It’s made me to give support who are worse off than me, to have compassion for people, to see opposite side of things, and recognize the real from fake. I have no patience for sensationalist tabloid garbage or the new reverse of ‘fake news’, and go right to what really matters to me: police brutality, the ongoing Palestine / Israel war, LGBTA rights, women’s rights, and other issues at hand.
I returned to my childhood I once abandoned since YouTube was very young. I constantly find everything jazz, sample, and crate-digging from that era to stay in touch with who I am.
Not even ten years ago, I couldn’t even fathom the concept of working at home. I left a decade of physical retail to do remote sales, and still stayed with the company to keep my health insurance, savings, and my time-off. I don’t deal with people’s attitudes, awkward interactions, or be forced into uneasy situations anymore. A literal live-saver.
Conversely, the post-internet era had introduced some hardcore pain in my life. I had one instance when a local mutual I wanted to meet tore my heart right out. Real bad. She’s why my journey into anxiety, depression, and mental health advocacy all started. No thanks to her. Another potential I met entered into my life thanks to social media (pre-Hellsite). She was someone who later on became an addict and I dated her for three months. She dumped me and burned her bridges when her boyfriend overdosed and died. I’ve also reached out to interests and potentials whom I made plans with; only for them to cancel at the very last minute. Their actions left me a “what-if” moment that’ll stay with me forever. It’s an all-or-nothing game we’re faced to play if we want to win. I look back and ended up accepting things I used to be dismissive of, and learned some things about myself I never expected to.
Yeah. Crazy to think that we experienced a change in our lifetimes - a Pandora’s Box - that we can never close. What used to be a novelty is now the norm, and what we used to take for granted is now a novelty in itself (the Othello effect). I know all these major constants will continue on, through whatever form or favor they become. Lord only knows what it will be. Place your bets now. **********
You’re more than free to ask me the same question again in 25 years. By then, you might ask me if I remember life as it was pre-dictatorship, what I’m nostalgic for, and what aspects of my life have stayed the same since. Count your lucky stars we don’t end up there.

Do It For The Culture (Kendrick Lamar)
Kendrick Lamar is a game-changer for the culture, bringing real talk to hip-hop. His albums—*Section.80*, *good kid, m.A.A.d city*, *To Pimp a Butterfly*, *DAMN.*, and *Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers*—hit on issues like racism, police brutality, and the everyday struggles of being Black in America. *To Pimp a Butterfly* isn't just music; it's an anthem of Black pride, mixing hip-hop with jazz, funk, and spoken word.
Kendrick isn’t just spitting bars; he's starting movements. He backs causes like Black Lives Matter and makes bold statements, like his 2016 Grammys performance. His words and actions speak to the anger and dreams of the African American community.
Compared to Drake, Kendrick's impact is on another level. While Drake's music dominates charts with catchy hooks and mainstream appeal, Kendrick's work goes beyond entertainment, addressing real issues and inspiring change. Their beef shows Kendrick's commitment to keeping it real and pushing the genre's boundaries. Drake has the hits, but Kendrick’s about making music that matters.
He's also paving the way for new artists of color to speak out. Kendrick’s authenticity and dedication make him a role model, showing you can stay true and still make waves. Kendrick Lamar’s impact is loud, proud, and here to stay, making him a vital cultural icon for African Americans.

I think the reason why in pretty much all of her controversies Taylor has preferred to remain silent is that she hates being put on the spot, hates not being in control of the entire situation. She's been pretty open always about being a control freak and being very iron gripped with her public persona at least, and I also think any outside pressure no matter the situation makes her act like a spiteful child. Its probably why shes doubled down on not saying anything to acknowledge Anas death in Brazil, too many people are asking her to and she's throwing a fit.
Think "oh you want me to talk about x thing? you all keep talking about it and constantly riding me to say something? well guess what, now I'm not saying anything, I'll just pretend it doesn't exist." she did that back in 2020 when she left Tumblr, because black fans were begging her to say literally anything about the blm protests or just in general voice support for the black communities in America but she didn't like the pressure and just silently ghosted and still lets those fans get treated like shit to this day because other white fans usually say shit like oh they drove her off tumblr they harassed her.
She's so embarrassingly petulant for a 34 year old woman. Teens can get away with shitty attitudes because they're still growing up, she's been grown for a while so it's just sad as hell honestly that she can't work past that but tbh what incentive does she have to do so? Even when she acts like an asshole there's still millions of people lining up to throw hundreds and thousands of their dollars at her, her tours are still packed, her music still sells. There's zero practical reason for her to change her behavior, plus I'm sure she surrounds herself with yes men so she never feels challenged in any of her decisions. So I don't think she'll ever change, I don't think she'd ever pursue it unless it was to win back public favor in the event she did something that would actually impact her brand.
I'm sure it was jarring as hell for Joe to realize who he was really standing next to, because that just doesn't mesh at all with what he's shown of his personality and how he is. Like must've been such a betrayal to be with someone for years but slowly recognize that they're actually fuckin nuts and do not care about publicly smearing others, making shady moves to ruin other people's careers (that Kate person from big machine who lost our on being featured on the hunger games soundtrack because Taylor just couldn't stand not being the only female artist for example + the Olivia Rodrigo thing) and acting like regina george in mean girls with her model squad. Not to mention she just doesn't care about being close friends with racists, working with rapists, being friends with someone who admitted to molesting their sister (Lena Dunham), the list goes on.
Taylor is the perfect example of how ridiculous it is that we really expect anything from celebrities especially in the US, they're morally bankrupt and do not give a fuck about the common person. If you've got leagues of braindead consumers on your side you could get away with murder, it's why I don't participate in any celebrity worship or stan culture, you can't use people like that as moral guideposts because they don't even have morals to begin with. If she did, Taylor would've been in contact with Anas family immediately at the very least, would've offered her condolences to her family, literally anything to show she felt real human emotion and grief at her passing. But she hasn't, so it's just another example of her absolutely mind blowing selfishness and narcissism.
You spilled so hard anon👏 Spot on👏

Our poll results are in! 🗳✨
*cracks knuckles* Let’s dive in and talk about it (: [Grab a snack and something to drink because this is about to be long. Yes, a bitch made graphs lmao Sue me] Alrighty, let’s do this:
Tumblr media
: : : : : : : : : : :::::::::::::::::::::::: : : : : : : : : : :
Tumblr media
I can't remember where bpwf was first released and the order of its premiere in each country but it's interesting to see that the majority of fandom [who participated at least] are from North America. Also Asia being the third highest group was fascinating because at least when it comes to Twitter, I’ve noticed a lot of the Namor/Shuri fan art has come from Thai and Korean artists. They are seriously carrying this fandom and I'm here for all of it.
ALSO: Random, but where are my Antarctica Nashuri fans?? 😭 I’m also curious to know how Africa has received the Black Panther franchise all together over the years. Do they resonate with it? Do they find it offensive/ overly dramatized? I’m curious. If you are a fan who lives in Africa, can you comment on your experience with this? I'd be happy to know.

To be honest, I’ve always assumed that the Marvel fandom [along with superhero spaces as a whole like DC and what not] were male dominated but this poll gave me some hope. I am curious what parts of fandom men frequent more vs women. For example, do Comic Cons ring in more women, more men, half and half? With fan art, do majority of artists identify as women, men, other? It’s interesting to think about. I also love seeing women/fem identifying individuals show up in these spaces because countless times we are made to feel like an inposter and harassed for our interests in comics, games, movies, shows, music, the list goes on. Questioned down with trivia, fact checking and all sorts of BS ultimately trying to prove that “you aren't a real fan". Don't ever let anyone make you feel like you have to prove your knowledge of anything to be interested in something you like. ESPECIALLY if it is coming from a man child guy.
ALSO: Hi all trans, non-conforming and alternative gender expressing baddies! Know you are welcome here and pls enjoy your stay at my humble blog abode. 👋🏾💜
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s amazing to see how diverse this fandom is! I didn’t expect that we would have such high numbers of black/brown fans/shippers. As a black mcu fan myself, it’s exciting to see us show up in fandom. Fandom has unfortunately been heavily white/Eurocentric for a very long time, which has slowly changed but we still have a long ways to go in it’s inclusivity. With the increase of bipoc characters and the actors who play them, I look forward to this continual progression.
ALSO: It’s been heartwarming to witness Mexican, Indigenous, Lantix fans feel seen with bpwf and Tenoch, Mabel and Alex's performances! I remember how enamored the black community was with Chadwick and the first BP. We were hyped to have this treasure of a movie, which I assume is similar to how the Asian community felt with Shang-Chi and so on. It's been said countless times before but representation truly makes the world of a difference and the power of the bipoc dollar should never be taken lightly. We cause real change when we support something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There will always be a spectrum of ages in any fandom but I figured the majority of people were probably within this age range. It may be due to the timeline of when the mcu was born and how it has progressed alongside millennials? This also explains why I keep seeing fans make posts about their age gaps with Tenoch and wanting to be his questionably young gf 😩 [get in line]
ALSO: Shoutout to the 55+ folks in the fandom! I have a sneaking suspicion yall are some of the coolest people 🤘🏾
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay *inhales exhales* I know I'm going to get flak for this but let's hop into it lol I saw the scale sway back and forth for a minute but it mostly stayed between White Wolf [Bucky Barnes] and Iron Heart [Riri Williams]. I myself personally love both answers! My annoyance is not with shuriri, but with its fandom. They have been some of the biggest instigators/bullies since bpwf has dropped. I've seen all kinds of mental gymnastics from saying the nashuri fandom would rather see shuri with a killer than support gay love [like what??] to Letitia is clearly lesbian because of her attire [pls be fr] and everything in between. It’s so unwarranted and I never see Nashuri fans doing the same thing back. Enjoy what you like, and leave the rest behind. It's such an easy 1+1=2 concept and yet, it goes over people's head still. It’s honestly disappointing when a fandom turns you off to a ship/character, especially when the ship is lowkey dope. Something that reminds me of this was the stucky fandom when the Captain America movies came out. Y’all.......when I tell you this fandom had me STRESSED 🥴. I saw racism/ deliberate exclusion of Sam, hate towards Sharon Carter just because she was a woman, you name it. They annoyed me so bad that I began to dislike Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers as characters [trust me, it made no sense lol] I couldn’t stand seeing either one of their names pop up. It took some of the Avenger movies [and honestly the sambucky fandom + Sebastian Stan/ Anthony Mackie's friendship] coming out years later for me to even be remotely cool with the idea of Bucky Barnes again. Anyways *drinks water* I'm getting stressed all over again just thinking about it lmao Long story short, don’t be an asshole. Enjoy YOUR flavor of ice cream and try not to shit on others and their differing flavor of choice in the process. Trust me, it's easier than you think.
ALSO: If you are a shuriri fan that hasn't been hateful/ problematic, this isn't about you boo [yall are good in my books! 😘]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crying that the #1 answer was “Bitch me!” because honestly mood. Jokes aside, I can’t really imagine Namor with another partner. It's probably largely due to the fact that Shuri was the main character we see him interact + bring his guard down with [outside of Namora?] This is also coming from someone who has not read the Namor comics and am very new to him as a character. If you have any knowledge you want to share in the comments, pls do ✨
ALSO: I threw in the Sue Storm comment to be annoying *teehee* but it was interesting to see how many people actually agreed with this statement. Maybe I'm just a horse with blinders about this fandom but I’m not really pressed? I’ve seen people argue that Ryan's current iteration of the Namor character wouldn't be in this type of relationship [along with people saying Tenoch wouldn’t go for it either] but I guess we'll just have to wait and see what unfolds *tries not to stress while we wait for future iterations of Namor and the fate of his character's arc/ Talokan*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The question on everyone’s mind! Although the delusional side of me was bummed that yall weren't more chaotic and went full "yes!", my logical side agrees with the final poll 🥲. Again, I'm not pressed about mcu and what they put out, whether it favors this ship or not. At the end of the day, I’m still going to vibe like I’ve been doing. If nothing else, I just hope we get to see these two characters and their rich dynamic again because Marvel can't ignore how the world reacted to Shuri and Namor. And hey, sometimes Marvel listens! Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie were on a mission after fans brought up a potential team up and after that, those two found every excuse to bring up a potential movie in interviews for YEARS until finally *boom* 🇺🇸🦅 The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Show 🦅🇺🇸 was born. Miracles do happen everyday rofl [I know these two examples have nothing to do with one another but let me have this lol]
ALSO: I only trust these characters in Ryan's hands so I'm hoping he's the first in line to direct whatever this future dynamic ends up being.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was cool seeing what other protagonists this fandom is drawn to outside of Shuri/Black Panther. I’m curious to know what other ships y’all also enjoy [feel free to drop them in the comments if you care to share]. I feel like a lot of the top picks in this poll I also resonated with, like Iron man for example. I don’t know what it is but there is just something about a genius character with a mix of charisma/ big softy + sarcastic energy that will do it for me every 👏🏾single👏🏾 time 👏🏾
ALSO: Not everyone sleeping on Thor and Hulk?! 😭 I feel bad that I left out Ant-man [especially with Quantumania just coming out] but you can only do 10 options on Tumblr polls and it was between him and Captain Marvel so….a choice was made…..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one cracks me up [and yes I had too much fun making these summaries which I find highly accurate] Also, I have no beef with any of these characters btw 😅 I truly believe that a hero is only as interesting as their counterpart. If your villain isn't captivating, it takes away from the hero + their storytelling potential and vice versa. The poll was split between Killmonger and Namor at one point [which if these two ever met/ were on screen together like ??? They have free reign to completely destroy my life. I welcome all calamity that ensues.] I'm not going to survive Namor and Kang in the same film this coming Avengers: Kang Dynasty movie.
ALSO: I didn't choose him but Thanos has been one of the most impactful/ compelling villains we’ve seen in the mcu thus far. I mean, he’s literally responsible for like 3 major films in the mcu + Josh Brolin is just amazing at what he does in general. This is brave to say but it was lowkey bittersweet to see his character's arc come to an end [obviously it was a huge relief but yeah]. Don't come for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one was just for fun since I recently made that tenitia rant post but it was cool seeing some of you come back with your own film ideas of what Letitia and Tenoch could act in together. I'm so down bad for them that I'm game for absolutely anything. Romcom? Let's do it. A Podcast of them reviewing their favorite foods from their cultures? I'll eat with yall. Music video? Where's the link? I don't care what it is. Someone brought this up but I really wish we got more game interviews with them like them reading thirst tweets, answering the web's most searched questions, a joint hot ones interview, something! They would have killed those! Bring them back!🗣️ Bring them back! 🗣️ Bring them back! 🗣️
ALSO: Letitia has already voiced a character [Nooshy in "Sing 2"] so now I need Tenoch to do the same. I would love to hear his voice in something. It would realistically be in Spanish since I know the majority of his projects have been thus far but idgaf, I’m still showing up *turns on closed captions* [shout out to everyone who also started to learn spanish after this beautiful man came into our lives]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And last but not least, your blog feedback <3 Thanks again for giving your input on this. My blog is slowly starting to grow and I'm having a lot of new people interact with my page so I wanted to do a quick temperature check of what people are feeling. At the end of the day, I'm aways going to stick to what feels authentic to me and what I want to post because if you're not liking what you're doing, what are you doing it all for? But I will definitely keep this feedback in mind. For the people who are new or just coming across my blog, here are some examples of what I'm referencing in this poll: fan edits [1, 2, 3] rants [1, 2, 3] song recs [1, 2, 3] Tenitia [1, 2, 3].
ALSO: I thought I was doing the most with the amount of Tenoch posts I was blogging already but maybe not. Don’t worry, I'll find more ways to post our baby girl (:
Tumblr media
: : : : : : : : : : :::::::::::::::::::::::: : : : : : : : : : :
WOW, YOU'RE STILL HERE!? Nice 🥰 Seriously, thanks again to everyone who participated in this completely unserious poll. I've never done one of these before but now that I know what to do and not do, I may make another one in the future. We'll see. Continue to stay tuned for future Namor/Shuri + Tenoch/Letitia shenanigans 💫

Section A. The Rockstar
I. The name is Damien Jermaine, who uses masculine terms as his preferred pronouns. He doesn’t mind if anyone calls him by his first or last name, so anyone is welcome to address him with whichever name floats their boat, and with whatever nicknames appeal to their hearts. Who doesn’t love endearing special nicknames, right? Make sure it’s not something offensive, though. Also, he would occasionally change his profile picture between Choi San and Han Taesan since he couldn’t make up his mind.
II. Owns the earth astrological sign as his sun, he is an INFJ who has already attained the age of majority.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Section B. The Realm
His soul is drawn to music—say, an orchestra, to name one of his interests. Thus, he has a deep appreciation for Classical Instrument.
Tunes by My Chemical Romance, Laufey, Mitski, Nirvana, Steve Lacy, Frank Ocean, and The Weeknd dominate his “Liked” playlist. However, he has a wide range of music taste, so he won’t mind if you want to shove your favorite down his throat.
He has a special bond with the Oldies/Classical, likely due to his grandparents’ influence. Thus, made him start humming along to George Benson, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, Dean Martin, and more musicians’ melodies. Group artists such as ABBA, Carpenters, Tears for Fears, and The Mamas & The Papas are among his favorites. He’s also a fan of rock bands like Oasis, Queen, The Smiths, The Daughters of Eve, The Beatles, and more.
Aside from what he had mentioned, he also listens to K-POP and finds himself drawn to ATEEZ, IVE, BOYNEXTDOOR, aespa, SEVENTEEN, Kiss of Life, NewJeans, and so much groups he couldn’t mention.
He enjoys watching Movies and Series, and action is his all-time favorite genre, but he would still write down your recommendations on his watch list—if you desired. He’s also into Anime such as Attack on Titan, Black Clover, Blue Lock, and many more that are still on his watch list. He could list all of his favorite anime movies, but Hello World has always had a special place in his heart.
He’s a proud papa to five fur-babies who likes to play gacha games like Genshin Impact (AR 60) and plays Plato in his spare time. Since he’s into games, his favorite YouTuber is Windah Basudara.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Section C. The Last
Before you decide to be in his zone, please pay attention to whatever’s coming.
Before You Follow.
His account isn’t attached to any labels. So he’ll mostly tweet about his interests, real-life content, and self-ranting. Sometimes he uses profanities when he rants, and just in case you’re uncomfortable; his account is FUB FREE.
As an introvert, he might be a bit slow on replying to mentions and direct messages, especially in situations where intense or private conversations could easily drain his energy. But if it’s urgent and you need an answer right away, don’t hesitate to re-chat.
He prevents problematic behavior from being around his zone. So he doesn’t tolerate those who send out hate speech, and tend to bring indirect satires towards others publicly.
Please do not follow if you hate his favorites, racist, zionist, homophobe, any religion-phobe, won’t interact, unnecessarily disrespectful and rude, and other basic DNI criteria.
If he ever does something wrong, he is open to accept reprimands and communicate it to you. Feel free to break the ties at any time, so make yourself comfortable. Let’s respect each other.

ask game here
we just removed any we didn't want to answer
Which labels do you use?
we listed them in categories to be more organized (not including alterhuman/disablity labels)
transmasc, transneutral, agender, ageab
aromantic, romance-repulsed, possibly quoiromantic and/or nebularomantic
asexual, sex-repulsed, aegosexual
polyam, queerplatonic, bi, enbian4enbian, t4t, monster4monster, weirdo4weirdo/freak4freak, nonhuman4nonhuman. i will never achieve my ideal qpr :[
Do you like to use the term queer for yourself? Or just LGBT, etc?
i use both! queer and lgbtqia+
Which pronouns do you use?
it/its
Describe your gender without using any words traditionally related to gender:
nothing. nonexistent. zero, nada, zilch.
When did you realize you weren't cishet?
stan voice: kid i've always known
Favorite (or just one you love) piece of LGBT media?
if it counts, undertale/deltarune, if it doesn't, the girl by the sea by...i don't remember...it's a graphic novel about a girl falling in love with a selkie
Name some queer artists/bands or songs you like most:
BLACK DRESSES
in terms of songs, i really really really really like transgender by crystal castles and build-a-bear by maggie brewer
oh, and noahfinnce is a trans music artist that makes a lot of really good songs!
Do you choose to reclaim slurs, why or why not?
yes! there's just something about it that makes me feel >:D y'know?
How has your identity changed over time?
used to identify as lesbian (as in. romantically). that could not be further from the truth nowadays, so yeah, we've changed a bit. also according to some notes i found from when i was still figuring out my gender, i used to be multigender??? i don't. remember that but i figured i'd throw it in anyway
Do you attend Pride in person every year?
i've never been to pride. i want to so bad
Do you feel safe and accepted in your local community?
no
Do you feel like you "fit in" with the queer/Pride community overall?
depends which side of the community we're talking about. for the most part, no, not really
How do you usually celebrate Pride month?
i'm just significantly louder about being queer for the month. i make characters with the colors of pride flags, i add even more queer identities to my knowledge hoard than usual, i talk about/make references to queer character headcanons more than usual, i reblog queer based posts more often, stuff like that
Do you prefer loud parties or quiet?
quiet. loud noises are hhhhhHHHHHHH
How do you feel about the term partner rather than husband/girlfriend/etc?
mwah mwah love it
What gender-neutral terms for yourself or others do you use (i.e. joyfriend)?
enbyfriend, mx, folks (this one bonuses as being more inclusive towards alterhuman folks), i still think 'my liege' is a really fun alternative to 'mister' or 'ma'am' or 'king' or 'queen', beloved, dearest, darling, etc.
Are you currently partnered, or if not are you interested in having partner(s)?
no partners. would be interested in having queerplatonic partners
Are you monogamous or polyamorous?
polyam!
What about your LGBT identity do you feel proud of/ want to recognize/celebrate?
can i say all of it?? sure, the gears don't grind quite right in our mind, but a broken machine can still be profound and beautiful, can't it?
What are you needing most right now (what would make your life easier or more fulfilling in regards to existing as queer)?
top surgery. please. PLEASE

Female Rappers Leading the New Era of Hip-Hop
Tumblr media
The queens are reigning supreme in the kingdom of Hip-Hop. Nicki's rhymes rule the charts, Cardi builds her own business kingdom, and Megan rocks the stage with fearless style. They're not just rappers, they're changing the game. They're rapping real life, empowering girls, and showing everyone what it means to be strong women in music. This isn't just a fad, it's a movement, and these queens are leading the way!
Tumblr media
Forget the tired tropes of female rappers as sidekicks or featuring as chorus. These queens are the stars, owning their sexuality, their voices, and their stories. They're rapping about everything from self-love and financial independence to social justice and mental health, all with a raw honesty and vulnerability that resonates deeply with their generation. They're unapologetically themselves, flaws and all, challenging the hyper-masculine image that once dominated the genre and proving that strength and vulnerability can coexist.
Tumblr media
But it's not just about the mic. These queens are building businesses, launching fashion lines, and advocating for social causes. Cardi B's savvy business moves, from clothing lines to record labels, are paving the way for other female entrepreneurs. Megan Thee Stallion's vocal support for Black women's rights is amplifying important conversations. These women are not just entertainers; they're role models, showing young girls that they can be anything they set their minds to, on and off the stage.
Tumblr media
This leadership isn't just about individual success; it's about creating space for others. Female rappers are forming powerful collaborations, lifting each other up, and fostering a sense of community that transcends traditional rivalries. From Cardi B and Nicki Minaj's chart-topping duet to the sisterhood of Cypher Queens, these collaborations are proving that women are stronger together, pushing the boundaries of creativity and inspiring a new generation of female artists.
Tumblr media
The rise of female leadership in Hip-Hop is not just about music; it's a cultural revolution. It's about challenging stereotypes, dismantling power structures, and rewriting the rules of the game. It's about unapologetic self-expression, fierce independence, and the power of sisterhood. And it's just getting started. So, step aside, kings. The queens have the mic, and they're not giving it back anytime soon.

I'm not good at understanding the jokes or what they mean. And my personality can be sudden the change that I'm friends with. I can be more laid back! I feel excited when I see my favorite person like I would run up to my favorite person and give them the biggest hug ever! I somewhat may be a little chaotic, and just a little gremlin doing weird things. I get playful, still get clueless, and depends on how dumb I am because I forgot what the left and the right side is... LMAO
— my hobbies are like... cozy? I'm not sure! I am an artist, I always love to draw and scrapbooking stuff to put in my sketchbook. I also love to listen to music. It helps me to relax and bring imagination to my mind. I also LOVE baking cakes! It's just so fun to make! (also I would love to make angel food cake for Caine ♥)
— what am I looking for a partner who is more... respectful, fun, playful, acceptable, helpful, and good at communication and understanding without judging? Yes, please! And I also like the partner who makes me laugh because my humor is 100% broken.
— my love language... I'm pretty sure I'm so much pleasing to physical contact! I love hugs! Hugging is my favorite! I like to hug my favorite person and favorite person squeezes me till my bone pops for good! I like hand-holding, cuddling makes me feel secure! (besides I am also comfortable with a PDA!) and lastly for giving the gift to! It just shows how much I appreciate and trust! :)
— for my zodiac sign is Leo ♌ !
— my aesthetic/style is like... Tomboy? I wasn't very fond of super girly aesthetic/style stuff because it's not my thing. I like wearing all the cool casual clothes! Men's clothing is the best... Oh my!
— my appearance can be shown that I have short brown wavy/curly(?) hair which is close to a pixie-cut hairstyle! I have hazel eyes, freckles, and black glasses. My height is around 5'0-ish! I'm very lightweight, so that means I'm easy to pick up LOL!
— FUN FACTS:
— I am a 100% fully deaf person. I do have both C.I (cochlear implants) that help me to hear anything and people talking! But a bit of a problem is that I do struggle to hear/listen. And I do prefer to have a close caption to easily understand what are they saying. I also do (ASL) American Sign Language to communicate, but mostly I talk without signing language.
— I struggle to pronounce the words it depends on whether the words look hard or too long. I usually do spelling the words out of my mouth. And the funny thing, is I struggle to pronounce scissors... 😭
— playing tic-tac-toe and go fishing card games are my favorite to play games!
— I suddenly will steal the clothes to wear... Whoops
— Oreo cookies are my most favorite to eat!
— I... Love... DINOSAURS!! AAAAA
———
That's all! Hope that helps you from me putting a bit of detail for TADC matchups! Remember this, take your time! No rush is needed! <3!!
Hi, thank you for your request! I’m sorry, it seems like tumblr did eat your first ask but no worries!
YOUR MATCHUP IS…
CAINE!!!
Tumblr media
Hmm… funny, playful, and respectful? Caine is all of things and more! I think you and Caine would be a good match, seeing as he is a funny little AI who is eager to help with any and all your needs.
Okay, upon first meeting Caine, most of your relationship is him trying to get you out of your shell since you're socially anxious. This phase is pretty awkward since it's mostly him cracking jokes/doing bits you don't understand or laugh at. He's plenty outgoing (almost too much so) and probably manages to get you to open up more with him pretty fast!
Once you're more relaxed around him, Caine embraces your chaotic nature! As long as you're enthusiastic about participating in his adventures and games, he will match your playful energy. Also, he doesn't mind you getting confused, he will happily guide you through whatever it is you're clueless about. It is his role as ringmaster, after all!
Caine isn't used to idle hobbies like drawing or baking. (He much more prefers excitement!) But he will try for you when you’re in a relationship. He'll watch you draw or draw with you and even commentate, if you'd like! And if you bake him a cake? He'd be over the moon--literally!
Physical affection is also important to Caine, especially hugs! He'll give you a hug to greet you, to say goodbye, just because, etc etc. And Caine just likes PDA in general, he's always gotta be touching the people he loves, so you better believe he likes hand-holding and cuddles too! (He isn't... the best at them since he's an AI and all but he is enthusiastic, which more than makes up for it!) Also likes carrying you around so you have him to hold onto when he transports you from place to place...
He's more than accepting and willing to accommodate to your needs as a deaf person. If you ever need help or repeating, things like that, he will happily do so. He has his fun digital powers to make it so whatever he says to you is accompanied by closed captioning. And he knows ASL if you ever want to use that, since, as an AI, he has knowledge on all languages!

Today in Black Excellence: Shirley Chisholm, the first African American—and the first woman—to seek nomination for President.
“I want history to remember me... not as the first black woman to have made a bid for the presidency of The United States, but as a black woman who lived in the 20th century and who dared to be herself. I want to be remembered as a catalyst for change in America.”
—Shirley Chisholm
Chisholm wanted to be remembered as a “catalyst for change.” What did she do?
Shirley Anita Chisholm was a politician, educator, and writer. There would be no Barack Obama or Kamala Harris without her—she was a trailblazer in every sense of the word.
Citing her “double-handicap” of being a Black woman, Chisholm initially rejected a political career but became increasingly engaged in fighting racial and gender inequality. She eventually joined the Democratic Party in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, winning a seat in the United States Congress in 1968, and becoming the first Black woman to do so.
What did she achieve in politics?
With a seat at the table, “Fighting Shirley” introduced over 50 pieces of legislation on behalf of the poor, protesting racial and gender inequality. She became a fierce critic of the Vietnam War when opposition to the war was considered radical. Her outspoken assault on injustice earned her few friends in the white political establishment.
While campaigning for the 1972 primaries, Chisholm was allowed only one speech in televised debates and was otherwise blocked from participation. Despite this, students, women, and minorities proved loyal supporters: In 12 primaries, she garnered 152 (10%) of delegates’ votes, despite a poorly financed campaign and widespread political hostility.
The 1972 primaries also displayed her remarkable character, when she chose to visit racist and segregationist Governor George Wallace of Alabama in hospital after a failed assassination attempt.
After retiring from Congress in 1983, Chisholm taught at Mount Holyoke College and co-founded the National Political Congress of Black Women.

“It was an honor to create a piece celebrating Shirley Chisholm. She was the first Black woman elected to Congress and to seek a major party nomination for presidency. Her trailblazing career is truly inspiring and I wanted to capture her power, her bravery and her magic. Her motto Unbought and Unbossed implores us to forge our own path no matter what obstacles try to stand in our way."

Today in Black Excellence: Maya Angelou—a literature titan whose 1969 memoir was the first nonfiction bestseller by an African American woman.
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” —Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
What was the early life of Maya Angelou?
She became a celebrated writer and Black icon, but it came from a childhood of tragedy. Born on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, Angelou was quickly exposed to racism as a child. Her parents split when she was young, and while visiting her mother, aged eight, she was raped by her mother’s boyfriend: her uncles killed the boyfriend in revenge. These horrors left Angelou mute for five years, as she discussed in an interview with Oprah, a close friend. At age 16, she gave birth and was forced to work grueling jobs to support her son—including fry cook, sex worker, and nightclub performer.
She recounted her traumas to close friend James Baldwin—fellow writer and Black icon. He challenged Angelou to write about her experiences, and she published the wildly successful memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. It catapulted Angelou to international stardom and was nominated for a National Book Award in 1970. It remained on The New York Times’ paperback nonfiction bestseller list for two years—the longest record in history.
What made her such a Black icon?
Angelou was a close friend of Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated on her birthday in 1968. Angelou stopped celebrating her birthday for years afterward. In 1964, Angelou helped another activist friend Malcolm X in founding the Organization of Afro-American Unity.
Spanning over 50 years, she published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, books of poetry, and plays. Her 1971 poetry collection, Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water ’Fore I Die, was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Because of her tireless work in literature and political activism, Angelou became widely respected as a spokesperson for the Black experience, particularly of women. You can even find her legacy in your pocket—she recently became the first black woman to appear on a US quarter.

"I was filled with such deep gratitude while working on this illustration of Maya Angelou. Her talent, creativity, strength, power and resilience is inspiring to us all and I wanted to display how beautiful her Universe was. How important her words and life's journey was because it showed us that no matter how hard we fall, still we can rise".”

Today in Black Excellence: Dapper Dan—the underground fashion icon who made history as the first Black designer to receive CFDA’s lifetime achievement award.
“I don’t give a damn about failure. I was born part of failure. We are the phoenix—all of us here in America, every black man, woman, and child are part of the phoenix, still rising from those ashes. All my life is about getting knocked down and getting back up. I don’t care. It’s fun!”—Dapper Dan.
What’s Dapper Dan’s story?
Born Daniel Day on August 8, 1944, in Harlem, New York City, into a working-class family. By 13, he was making thousands a day after teaching himself gambling. By the 70s, Dan first sold items out of his car, and in 1982, the iconic Dapper Dan’s Boutique had its grand opening —open 24/7.
Dan is self-taught—from his fabrics and leather printing, to his creations of unique textiles featuring Louis Vuitton and Gucci logos. His designs became synonymous with 80s hip-hop—but Dan was neglected by the fashion world, and his illegal use of major label logos led to police raids. Local attention became Global; European luxury fashion companies like Fendi caught wind and promptly took legal action. Dapper Dan’s Boutique was shut down in 1992. Ever the hustler, he continued working underground.
How did he come to win the CFDA award?
Ironically, to say the least, and on his own terms in true Dapper Dan style. Fans were outraged when they noticed Gucci steal one of his classic designs for a major show. The coat was first made for Olympian Diane Dixon, and she posted on Instagram: “Give Dapper Dan his credit. He did it first in 1989!” Incredibly, Gucci accepted its wrongdoing and sparked his career into new life when it offered a partnership.
At age 77, he made history as the first Black fashion designer honored with the CFDA’s Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also the first designer to receive the honor without ever doing a solo fashion show. Truly the epitome of Black excellence.

There’s a quote by Faith Cummings that says, “We still struggle to garner a seat at the table. Even though we’ve oft built the table ourselves.” As a Black Creative, this is a reality many of us face. And Dapper Dan is a modern representation of just that—Black Excellence. He exemplifies how and why our contributions to culture often define culture. It was an honor dedicating this piece to him, as an extension of my gratitude and appreciation for the path he has paved for all Black Creatives. Thank you Dapper Dan.
