Cette robe, exécutée en batiste de soie vert réséda, est entièrement plissée et ornée d'une riche garniture en dentelle Renaissance ivoire. Le corsage, également plissé, est garni de dentelle Renaissance formant boléro dans le dos et descendant devant jusqu'à la ceinture en velours noir. Le corsage ferme devant, la garniture de dentelle sur le côté. Les manches, faites jusqu'au coude avec delà batiste de soie plissée, sont évasées pour former des bouillonnes retenus par des bas de manches ajustés, exécutés en dentelle; la contour supérieur est orné de choux en velours. Le haut col droit est lait en dentelle.

On complète la toilette par une grosse ruche tour de cou, à longs pans, en mousseline de soie blanche.

Le chapeau, en paille de soie vert réséda, est relevè de côté à l'aide d'un nœud de velours noir. La calotte est entourée d'une draperie en mousseline de soie vert réséda et d'une guirlande de fleurs d'acacias.

This dress, executed in reseda green silk batiste, is fully pleated and adorned with rich ivory Renaissance lace trim. The skirt is made with a lace yoke finished with isolated patterns attached to a similar border; the skirt is also encircled with five rows of black velvet ribbons pleated with the fabric, the lower contour is trimmed with a ruffle in silk cambric and lace inserts adorned with small black velvet puffs ; the skirt is placed freely on a green taffeta skirt. The bodice, also pleated, is trimmed with Renaissance lace forming a bolero in the back and descending in front to the black velvet belt. The bodice closes in front, the lace trim on the side. The sleeves, made up to the elbow with pleated silk batiste, are flared to form bubbles retained by fitted cuffs, executed in lace; the upper contour is decorated with velvet puffs. The high straight collar is lace milk.

The toilet is completed by a large hive around the neck, with long sides, in white silk muslin.

The hat, in reseda green silk straw, is raised on the side with a black velvet bow. The crown is surrounded by a reseda green silk chiffon drapery and a garland of acacia flowers.

Léon Damas (March 28, 1912 - April 22, 1978) was a poet, editor, diplomat, and cultural theorist who was born in Cayenne, French Guiana. He was the youngest of five children born to parents Ernest and Marie Aline Damas.

He left French Guiana to attend the prestigious Lycée Victor-Schœlcher. He attended the University of Paris. His scholarship was for the study of law, he developed an interest in the humanities and social sciences. Influenced by Andre Breton’s anti-colonial pamphlet Légitime Défense, by his encounters with the work of Harlem Renaissance poets like Claude McKay and Langston Hughes, and by the growing community of US Black expatriate writers and artists, he began to assert his identity as a poète Nègre.

He and Aimé Césaire met Léopold Sédar Senghor. The three founded the journal L’Étudiant Noir, called Négritude.

He was the first Black writer to address the impact of colonization on the psyche of the colonized. He introduced this colonial and postcolonial condition more than 20 years before philosopher Frantz Fanon would label such traits “the colonized personality”.

He was the author of nine other volumes, including five additional books of poetry, three essay collections, and one book of short stories. In addition to a writing career that spanned 40 years, he held several prominent and influential positions in military, diplomatic, and government organizations. He served in the French army during WWII. He was elected to the Chambre des Députés of the French National Assembly. He became the overseas editor for Radio France, a contributing editor on the board of the journal Presence Africaine, and a representative of the African Society of Culture for the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.

He traveled extensively in Africa, Latin America, the US, and the Caribbean. He settled in DC, where he accepted a visiting professorship at Georgetown University. John Carpenter will release his fourth solo album, Lost Themes IV: Noir, on May 3 via Sacred Bones Records. The filmmaker/composer is, as always, accompanied by son Cody Carpenter on synthesizer and godson Daniel Davies on guitar.

The album is available to pre-order on vinyl in several colorways, each of which features a foil stamped jacket and comes with a 24x36 fold-out poster (pictured below):

It’s been a decade since John Carpenter recorded the material that would become Lost Themes, his debut album of non-film music and the opening salvo in one of Hollywood’s great second acts. Those vibrant, synth-driven songs, made in collaboration with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, kickstarted a musical renaissance for the pioneering composer and director. In the years since, Carpenter, Carpenter, and Davies have released close to a dozen musical projects, including a growing library of studio albums and the scores for David Gordon Green’s trilogy of Halloween reboots. With Lost Themes IV: Noir, they’ve struck gold again, this time mining the rich history of the film noir genre for inspiration. Since the first Lost Themes, John has referred to these compositions as “soundtracks for the movies in your mind.” On the fourth installment in the series, those movies are noirs. Like the film genre they were influenced by, what makes these songs “noirish” is sometimes slippery and hard to define, and not merely reducible to a collection of tropes. The scores for the great American noir pictures were largely orchestral, while the Carpenters and Davies work off a sturdy synth-and-guitar backbone. The noir quality, then, is something you understand instinctively when you hear it. “Some of the music is heavy guitar riffs, which is not in old noir films,” Davies notes. “But somehow, it’s connected in an emotional way.” The trio’s free-flowing chemistry means Lost Themes IV: Noir runs like a well-oiled machine—the 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster from Kiss Me Deadly, perhaps, or the 1958 Plymouth Fury from John’s own Christine. It’s a chemistry that’s helped power one of the most productive stretches of John’s creative life, and Noir proves that it’s nowhere near done yielding brilliant results. “This is who we are, I think,” John summarizes. “Daniel’s the adventurer. He pushes for new sounds, new directions. He tries things that I haven’t thought of. He’s a lot more daring than I am, and he enriches the whole thing. Cody’s the musician. He’s a savant at music. He understands music. We depend on him to rescue us.” And what about John’s contribution? With characteristic understatement, he concludes: “I’m the experience. I’ve done music for movies before.”

Flapper Flamewar: I have most of the elements of this, just need to dye the belt (do in May-June), make the headband, and figure out what I'm doing for shoes

Film Noir Femme Fatale Perturabo (....it's a long story): need to go get the straps shortened on the dress, and also get out to the fabric store so I can find a shade of gray that will look good with the hazard stripe half of the cape, then I can finish off the shawl at which point I just need to get a belt and I'm set.

Les papilles sont submergées par une explosion de fruits noirs (Cassis, mûre, Myrtille), des touches de poivre noir et de réglisse. Le boisé est parfaitement équilibré, sans excès. Une délicieuse persistance en bouche se termine par une finale délectable de pruneaux et de délicates notes de chocolat.

Au flanc du tertre de Fronsac, au-dessus de la vallée de l’Isle et entouré de 20 hectares de vignes en coteaux, ce château fortifié à la fin du 14e siècle prend son aspect actuel au cours de la Renaissance deux siècles plus tard. On the side of the mound of Fronsac, above the Isle valley and surrounded by 20 hectares of hillside vineyards, this castle, fortified at the end of the 14th century, took on its current appearance during the Renaissance two centuries later. Celebrated by Ronsard, it has seen the most brilliant minds parade: Montaigne, La Boétie, Rousseau, and many others... 120 years ago, Senator Guillaume Chastenet de Castaing entered the scene. He is followed by his son Jacques, an illustrious historian of the French Academy, and by his grandson Antoine. Since 1983, the family winemaking adventure has continued with the fourth generation, that of Constance and her husband Stéphane Droulers. French style isn't always understated. There was a lot of rain and color at Paris Fashion Week, and even some surprises, including replicas. Here are some of the highlights you may have missed from the week… Sprinkles of rain at Hermès It rained outside the Hermès show at the Garde Républicaine in Paris, but this worked perfectly for creative director Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, who also brought rain inside the venue. As models walked the runway in riding and ankle-length boots, wearing variations of soft earth tones, including red, brown, grey, and nude tailored coats and skin-tight leather dresses with glossy finishes, an elaborate sprinkler system sprayed them with raindrops. Some garments were even finished with fur, studs, and buckles, proving they were water-resistant. Chloé and Alexander McQueen debut new creative directors. Nothing leaves fashion audiences at the edge of their seats more than when a new creative director makes their debut – especially at a reputable luxury design house. During PFW, a former JW Anderson employee, Dublin-born Sean McGirr, took over from his predecessor Sarah Burton, who made her departure from Alexander McQueen after 20 years. MLB LARP/Ren faire AU idea

an AU where instead of there being Miraclous and stuff, Adrien and Marinette are both live action role-players. There’s a local role play group in Paris that does Renaissance Roleplay mixed with magic and superheroes. Marinette originally got involved when someone commissioned her to make an outfit for the roleplay, then there were wardrobe malfunctions, and someone suggested she could make money by coming and opening up a stand to do repairs. 

I don’t know much about renaissance fairs or larping, so I’m imagining that this is a combo of the two, where there’s a plot and stuff, but also a market where people can sell food or trinkets or say, costume repairs. 

Marinette comes in a cute outfit that fits with the medieval theme and sets up her stand, offering on the spot wardrobe repairs at a decent price and also selling stuff, probably just homemade jewelry and maybe pastries from her parents bakery at first, then also advertising commissions. 

To differentiate the visitors enjoying the ren fair stuff and not participating in the roleplay (still pretending to be in that era but are not involved in the plot) with the “players” they have a rule: All “Players” need to wear a mask of some kind, mostly masquerade masks. Marinette has started selling them in her stand to make it easier for people who want to be involved but didn’t bring a mask. 

One day the big plot takes a turn and no one is able to solve the problem/defeat the day’s bad guy. Marinette is inspired to step in, grabs one of her own masks (a ladybug themed masquerade mask that’s red with black spots) and becomes Ladybug. She does really well, and makes a big enough splash that from then on she rebrands and her stand now reads “Ladybug’s Miraculous Clothing and Repairs” (or something like that) and she keeps her mask on whenever at the faire. All her contacts are for “Ladybug” and she has a phone just for that. (her parents also probably had her do this because she’s a kid and they don’t want creeps knowing who she is) 

All this results in most people (other than those around when she first started coming to the faire) not knowing her real name or even that she’s a kid. She’s become really popular, both for her booth where she sells cool jewelry and accessories (and is a life-saver when someone needs repairs for their costumes) and also for her actions as Ladybug, where she’s always saving the day in unexpected ways not unlike in the show with her lucky charm, she’s always solving riddles or thinking of ways to defeat the bad guy that no one else would think of.

The real plot comes when she’s joined by Chat Noir, a suave knight in leather armor who quickly becomes her sidekick/best-friend-while-larping/love interest/partner, who is secretly Adrien Agreste, famous model whose famous fashion designer Gabriel Agreste sent him to infiltrate then larpers/ren faire to discover the real identity of Ladybug, because Gabriel has seen her designs and wants to hire her, but quickly realized that she’s a teen and he doesn’t want to freak her out and make her think he’s a creep, so instead he totally did the smart thing by sending in his teenage son to spy on her, and then when she lets something slip to Chat Noir about her attending Francois Dupont, Gabriel decides to finally give in to Adrien’s demands to go to school with other kids and not be homeschooled anymore, but tells him to keep an eye out for ladybug there too. 

Adrien, meanwhile, is having the time of his life, he hit it off with Ladybug (Gabe only wanted him to befriend her a little bit, becoming her bestie and partner was all him) he’s getting to act authentic for the first time in his life, he really likes role playing, and he’s even gotten to go to school because of it. At this point Gabriel is just letting him be, he’s just asked that if Ladybug ever tells him her identity, he do the same and let her know that his dad would like to hire her. He’s not actually having to spy on her much, he did mention to his dad that she slipped up and mentioned what school she goes to, but mostly he’s just getting to hang out and role-play and his dad is just asking him afterwards “Did you find out who ladybug is?” and nothing else. At this point Adrien is actually the one saying they shouldn’t reveal their identities instead of the other way around, because he doesn’t want this to end.

Marinette thought Chat Noir was sus at first, but now they’ve warmed up to each other and she’s actually tried to tell him who she is several times so they can hang out outside of the masks, but he keeps saying no and implying that he’s someone recognizable and that his parent only agreed to let him do this if he hid his identity. 

Cue various identity shenanigans where Gabe is only trying to hire the designer who’s been making all these amazing costumes and wants to mentor her, Adrien is scared he won’t get to roleplay or see Ladybug anymore if he finds out her identity (and he’ll go back to home schooling), Marinette is -this- close to kidnapping Chat Noir to take him home with her to feed him pastries and play Ultimate Mecha Strike III together and yell at his dad for being strict, and Nathalie is done with all this shit and would like her boss to reassure his son that he only wants Ladybug’s identity to hire and mentor her, nothing bad, and also that he can still attend school and be friends with ladybug after, even if she says no to his dad’s offer.

This is really unpolished, but the idea popped into my head, and I needed to write it down and get it out there. Feel free to add on to it.

Honestly my one beef with the Goncharov situation is the casting of Linda Fiorentino as Sofia. I'm sorry. She's from a completely different era. The neo noir renaissance of the 90s. She was in Men in Black for crying out loud. Don't get me wrong, she's terrific, but consider THIS when juxtaposed with Cybill Shepherd's Katya.
